Anons found the black box stands alongside bus shelter 'S' by Westminster Abbey in London. Its precise location is outside No 4 Victoria street. No 4 Victoria Street used to have a branch of the corrupt HSBC bank and Anons found out it is the home of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC House). Other tenants of the building seem to have links to Iran. The building across the street from the black box is the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

The black box is about a 11 minute walk from Thames House, the home of the Security Service [MI5] and a 23 minute walk from the Secret Intelligence Service [MI6]. Q's Picture of the box featured a Qanon sticker with a White Rabbit, the text said "The Storm is Coming". CB Cool Britannia. 25-27 Buckingham Palace Rd, London SW1W 0PP (sometimes listed as 225-229 Piccadilly London W1J 9HR) Souvenir store and gift shop in Piccadilly Circus, London. The storefronts' seasonal changes and sale signs can help narrow the timeframes of pics.

CH A) Corinthia Hotel. 5-star hotel at the junction of Northumberland Avenue and Whitehall Place very near the Hungerford railroad and Jubilee footbridges on the Victoria Embankment. The building, opened as the Metropole Hotel in 1885, was used by the Ministry of Defense during both World Wars. During World War II, the building provided office accommodation for the Air Ministry and Ministry of Defense. It is the MoD's former presence that earned the building its reputation of 'spy HQ' for the British Secret Service. Records state that Room 424 was the first home of MI9 and its sub-division, the Special Operations Executive. It also became the holding point for one of the model planning beaches for the Battle of Normandy.

In 2013 Canada announced its plan to consolidate all its diplomatic and consular functions into one central location. Tatts/TATTs Tattershall Castle, a paddle steamer built in 1934 that was once a ferry across the River Humber at Hull. On February 16th 2018 Q posted a picture from a London Traffic Cam by Embankment Station [https://qalerts.pub/?n=784], the image was of London traffic and Big Ben. The File Name of the picture was NSA_Traf_CAM_LONDON2847.png. 9 minutes later Q posted a stringer warning to the UK of a possible car attack.

3 Months later on May 20th 2018 Q posted a series of 3 pictures [https://qalerts.pub/?n=1423] from the same traffic camera which was rotated through 3 positions. Q was telling us this camera has a field of view from the Corinthia hotel and up the Victoria Embankment towards Parliament.

2 months later on the 27th of July 2018 Q reposted one of the previous pictures with people circled [https://qalerts.pub/?n=1720], this was tentatively identified as Lisa Page, lover of disgraced traitor and FBI goon Peter Strzok.

Q revists the theme again on February the 18th 2019 when Q posts 3 more pictures of the Corinthia hotel from the same camera [https://qalerts.pub/?n=2797] indicating that the couple may have been staying there.

17th May 2018 Pictures

On the 17th of May Q posted a series of pictures from two locations in London and several locations in China, there is likely a connection between the two. An anon posted a theory which Q quoted indicating that the theory was on the right lines. The China pics were of pallets of boxed technology (possibly secure satellite phones that operate on a Chinese satellite), the Foxconn factory and an airport with a Chinese plane at a gate. The theory suggested that China were supplying secure communication devices to the cabal so that they could communicate without sigint (Signals Intercept) by the NSA. The London connection is through Lisa Page and Peter Strzok, the lovers were secretly in London (perhaps arriving by boat on the Thames to avoid official record of the visit) and being surveilled by the Q team the whole time. The theory stated they were either collecting or distributing these communication devices for other cabal members, Q also posted a picture from the plane and an Owl and the Space Shuttle.

In post 1405, which is the first of the 17th of May series, Q posted a picture of a red London Routemaster bus, Q also posted a Winter Wonderland picture of 2 peoples legs, The Red Bus picture was titled Fsurv_londonps1.png, Presumably someone in the picture is of interest, its likely this picture was posted to inform the person who is being surveilled that they were being watched. The Cool Britannia giftshop has similar archways to that of the temple on Epstein Island and the Aleppo Bathhouse Hammam Yalbugha.

Will UK’s New Push for Oil Drilling Boost Energy Security?

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will this week announce a mandate for annual auctions of new licenses for oil and gas exploration in the North Sea. It’s the latest in a series of rollbacks on net zero policies intended to establish dividing lines between the ruling Conservatives and the opposition Labour Party before a general election expected next year.

But will it actually reduce the UK’s reliance on energy from “hostile foreign regimes” as the government says?

What is an oil and gas licensing round?

The government has been offering permits to explore for oil and gas in the North Sea since 1964, a process that has continued on a regular basis even as the country has committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The government issued hundreds of additional exploration licenses for offshore areas, arguing that extra resources are still required through the decades-long transition to clean energy.

Companies pay around £9,000 to bid for a block, regardless if they win. If successful, they then pay rent and an annual levy to the government, depending on the size and age of the license. Winning a license gives a company the exclusive right to the area for a set amount of time — initially a term of about six years — but can be extended multiple times, meaning a license could be held for decades without producing anything. If the license holder decides to drill they need further government consent.

How often has the typically UK auctioned licenses?

From 2016 to 2019, the UK held annual licensing rounds. Prior to that, auctions typically took place every two years. There was a pause of more than three years without a fresh auction from 2019 to 2022 as the government considered the “climate compatibility” of North Sea oil and gas, although it was never government policy that the auctions should cease. The hiatus also partly reflected the disruption of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Will Sunak’s move unleash a torrent of new production?

North Sea oil and gas resources are mostly tapped out and production has steadily declined since its peak more than 20 years ago. The iconic Brent facility, which once produced as much as half a million barrels a day, has been mostly dismantled. The only oil field to come online last year, called Evelyn, pumps no more than 6,000 barrels a day, just a 0.006% of global production.

Offshore developments also take time, with decades often passing between the issuance of a new exploration permit and first production. The license for Rosebank, the North Sea’s newest major development, was awarded in 2001 and the project is set to begin producing in 2026 at the earliest.

Even with a government that is supportive of new developments, many questions have to be answered before a field can be declared economically viable: How many barrels are in place? Is the field close to existing infrastructure? Does it lie in shallow or deep water?

As Wood Mackenzie analyst Greg Roddick has pointed out, “no commercial discoveries have been made on new acreage awarded through licensing rounds since 2014.”

Is oil and gas from the UK cleaner than other countries?

Sunak’s government argues that it’s better for the environment to consume oil and gas in the UK that was also produced within the country. The process of pumping gas from beneath the North Sea and shipping it ashore through an existing pipeline consumes less energy, and releases less carbon, than manufacturing a cargo of liquefied natural gas in Qatar and shipping it across the world in a tanker.

The North Sea transition authority has said that producing natural gas in the UK results in just 27% of the emissions of the average LNG cargo. However, that calculation excludes the carbon dioxide emitted when the gas is burned. Once that is accounted for, the figure rises to 85%.

Is this good for UK energy security?

The UK imports about 40% of the oil and gas it consumes, yet about three quarters of the crude pumped within the country was exported last year. That’s because so much of the nation’s refining capacity has been shut down — about half over the past two decades — that it is heavily dependent on imported fuels.

Britain also has very little natural gas storage, so it often exports the fuel to Europe during the summer and imports it back again during periods of peak demand in winter.

So there is no guarantee that additional oil and gas produced in the UK would remain there, and the country is very much exposed to swings in international price benchmarks over which its tiny share of global production — about 1% last year — has little influence.

What would a Labour government do?

The main opposition Labour Party has said that if it were in power, it wouldn’t award any new licenses for offshore drilling, but would respect any permits already in place. It is currently ahead of Sunak’s Conservatives in the polls and the next election must be held by January 2025 at the latest.

My thought previously have been that Red Bus is afternoon. But PS pics are sunset around 4pm when street lights starting to light, per previous obs. Though we have no evidence of connection between RB vs the two PS pics, it’s interesting that in what seems the earlier (PS) pic, with an overhead shadow, the ‘apparent’ subjects, GINA doppelganger & wingman, are headed in the direction of PS where the pics were taken at sunset, regardless of the date.

I think focus on RB around 1-2pm-ish, and PS around 4pm. Based on either overhead light source causing ground shadow, and street lights coming on at PS are gud times to search for hourly weather. So, 1-4pm for weather.

The army said its troops also found a vehicle in the hospital containing a large number of weapons.

Hamas said in a statement late on Thursday that claims by the Pentagon and U.S. State Department that the group uses Al Shifa for military purposes "is a repetition of a blatantly false narrative, demonstrated by the weak and ridiculous performances of the occupation army spokesman."

The United States is confident in an assessment from its own intelligence agencies on Hamas activities in Al Shifa hospital and will neither share nor elaborate on it, White House spokesperson John Kirby said on Thursday.

Israeli officials said Hamas held some of the 240 hostages taken by gunmen on Oct. 7 in the hospital complex. The body of a woman hostage was recovered by troops in a building near Al Shifa on Thursday, the army said.

Military equipment including Kalashnikov rifles and rocket-propelled grenades were also found in the building, it said.

Human Rights Watch said hospitals have special protections under international humanitarian law.

"Hospitals only lose those protections if it can be shown that harmful acts have been carried out from the premises," the watchdog's U.N. Director Louis Charbonneau said.

Another week, another Prince Andrew scandal.

This one is not Jeffrey Epstein related, but it sheds light in the ‘business’ the now-disgraced Duke of York was pursuing before his ‘lifestyle’ and his friendship with the late convicted sex-offender derailed his ‘working Royal’ status and associated privileges.

The sad story begins as a real life drama half a world away, in Turkey. An elderly millionaire lady was in trouble.

Her husband was a political prisoner, and she felt unsafe remaining in the country. So she hired what turned out to be an alleged con-man to help her move her considerable assets out of Turkey.

You probably can guess how well that went.

But how come part of this money ended up in Prince Andrew’s bank accounts? That’s the scandal.

To begin with, this is not innuendo or hearsay. Andrew has already reached a confidential settlement with the Turkish millionaire, who accused him IN COURT of accepting large sums of her money from an alleged fraudster.

“The Duke of York, along with his the Duchess of York and their daughters, received about £1.4million from former Goldman Sachs banker Selman Turk.

Turk, 37, is accused of stealing some £40million from Nebahat Evyap Ibsilen, 77, who hired him to help transfer her assets out of Turkey, where her MP husband is a political prisoner. […] She alleged that he tricked her into making a payment of £750,000 to the Duke, who he claimed had helped to secure her a British passport.

Turk claimed the payment, which the prince later repaid at the request of Mrs Isbilen’s solicitors, was a gift to the duke for his daughter’s wedding.”

If we stop for a second to unpack the above, we know for an undisputed fact that Andrew ‘accepted’ almost one and a half million sterling pounds from a banker.

The money ultimately belonged to Mrs. Isbilen.

Now, depending on who is telling the story, the money was a) a bribe for (falsely) helping the elderly lady get a British passport; or b) a ‘gift’ to the Duke on the occasion of his daughter’s.

“Further payments to the Duke and his family were made, totaling £350,000 to the Duke, £225,000 to the Duchess and £25,000 to Princess Eugenie.

Eugenie said last year that the money was given to her by a ‘longstanding family friend’ to assist with the cost of a surprise party for her mother.”

There you go: the Duke’s daughter is in the middle of the melee.

The High Court heard on Tuesday that the Duke and Duchess, who still live together, had reached a settlement with Mrs. Isbilen for an undisclosed sum.

Apollo Theatre: Ceiling collapses during show in London

Seventy-six people have been injured, seven seriously, after part of a ceiling in London's Apollo Theatre collapsed during a show, police say.

The venue in Shaftesbury Avenue was packed for a performance of The Curious Incident Of The Dog in the Night-Time.

Eyewitnesses heard "a crackling" noise before the collapse at about 20:15 GMT. Theatre-goers left covered in debris.

The Apollo's owner described it as a "shocking and upsetting" incident and said an investigation was under way.

A spokesman for the company, Nimax Theatres, said "thoughts are with the audience and staff".

'Swift and effective'

A total of 58 people were taken to hospital but there were no life-threatening injuries.

Ch Supt Paul Rickett, who is in charge of policing in London's City of Westminster, said: "All of the emergency services responded to this incident using tried and tested systems that we have for working together. That response has been swift and effective.

"Officers remain at the scene tonight and will do for the coming hours. We thank the public for their support and patience.

Ceiling of London’s Apollo Theatre collapses

The hundreds of theatergoers who packed into Central London’s historic Apollo Theatre on Thursday night were expecting to watch a mystery.

But about 40 minutes into the play, shortly after 8 p.m., they got a drama instead.

“One of the actors said, ‘Watch out!’” said one woman. “We thought it was part of the play.”

It wasn’t. Instead, it was part of the century-old structure’s ornate plaster ceiling, which tumbled five stories onto the theatergoers, injuring scores of them, seven seriously, officials said.

“We heard a creak, somebody screamed, somebody from over there said, ‘Look out!’ and then the ceiling kind of creased in the middle and then just collapsed,” said Hannah, who with her husband had snagged one of the last pairs of tickets to the performance in the 775-seat theater.

Though she said she herself felt “slight panic,” she credited those around her for keeping their calm. “It wasn’t every man for himself,” she said, noting that several of her fellow theatergoers checked on those around them. “Everyone was looking out for each other, and in a couple of minutes, everyone was out.”

The London Fire Brigade’s Kingsland Station Manager Nick Harding said about 720 people were inside when a section of the ceiling collapsed on the theatergoers, taking parts of the balconies with it.

A Brexit-hating billionaire has been linked to a conference aimed at breaking up the United Kingdom. George Soros is one of the main backers of the left-wing openDemocracy group.

It was represented at a 'Break up of Britain' conference held in Edinburgh earlier this month. The gathering, held in the capital's Assembly Rooms, was dubbed "a major event on the future of the United Kingdom, its nations, and the European Union".

Speakers included the likes of nationalist writer Lesley Riddoch, former Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood and English Green MP Caroline Lucas. The SNP was represented by Alyn Smith MP while controversial MSP Maggie Chapman was there for the Scottish Greens.

According to express.co.uk, openDemocracy was represented by Adam Ramsay who chaired an event on 'the making of Britain's constitutional crisis'. openDemocracy, whose founder Anthony Barnett also chaired a debate entitled 'can England recover from Great Britain?', also appeared, livestreamed the event on its website.

It has sparked concerns that Hungarian-American investor Soros could financially back Humza Yousaf and the SNP's bid to destroy the UK. Soros, 93, previously donated £400,000 to the Remain side in the 2016 EU referendum and became a controversial figure during the campaign.

The Break up Britain event took place on November 18 and was dedicated to Scottish political thinker Tom Nairn. Organisers used crass language in its blurb, including comparing nations of the UK to hostages.

A statement on the website read: "The greatest danger to our democracy is the status quo. A once suffocating but stable British consensus has been replaced by an increasingly authoritarian state coordinating assaults on immigrants, the labour movement and the right to protest. Meanwhile, Scotland is trapped in an involuntary union, Wales strains for more autonomy, and Northern Ireland is held hostage."

It said the event aimed to "challenge the reactionary drift of British politics and assert the right of Scotland, Wales, England and Ireland to self-determination as a core principle for any democratic future". Other topics tackled on the day included the SNP after Nicola Sturgeon, the prospects of a united Ireland, where the Yes campaign goes from here and "Can Europe be complete without Scotland?".

Labour MP Clive Lewis was among those to participate. Musician Pat Kane and former Nat MP George Kerevan were also involved.

Conservative MP Marco Longhi said Soros "should keep his nose out of British politics". He added: "The free will of the people is expressed at the ballot box and this is too easily and conveniently forgotten if not ignored. Soros and his money should not be involved in influencing or altering anything that has been agreed through our democratic process."

"The Responsibility To Not Report": Irish Journalist Defends Suppressing Stories For The Public Good

We have been discussing the latest Irish law to crackdown on free speech. Yet, even with the criminalization of speech, there is apparently still the danger of citizens reading or hearing facts from reporters that are best kept from them. Thus, Kitty Holland, a correspondent with the Irish Times, is defending the media’s decision to suppress stories that would “incite hatred” and undermine journalistic viewpoints.

The comments came in a BBC interview regarding the victim impact statement of the boyfriend of Ashling Murphy, who was murdered in 2022 by an immigrant.

Ryan Casey stated in part:

It just sickens me to the core that someone can come to this country, be fully supported in terms of social housing, social welfare, and free medical care for over 10 years… over 10 years… never hold down a legitimate job, and never once contribute to society in any way shape or form… can commit such a horrendous evil act of incomprehensible violence on such a beautiful, loving and talented person who in fact, worked for the state, educating the next generation and represented everything that is good about Irish society.

I feel like this country is no longer the country that Ashling and I grew up in, and Ireland has officially lost its innocence when a crime of this magnitude can be perpetrated in broad daylight. This country needs to wake up. This time, things have got to change, we have to once and for all start putting the safety of not only Irish people — but everybody in this country who works hard, pays taxes, raises families and overall contributes to society — first.

We don’t want to see any other family in this country go through what we have gone through and are continuing to go through. I myself have a little sister and honestly, just the thought of her walking the streets of any village, town or city in this country alone makes me physically sick and quite frankly absolutely terrifies me as this country is simply not safe anymore!

This time, if real change does not happen, if the safety of people living in this country is further ignored, I’m afraid our country is heading down a very dangerous path and you can be certain that we will not be the last family to be in this position.

The host asked:

“Those were very interesting comments, weren’t they?”

Holland disagreed and said that they had to be suppressed in the best interests of the public:

“I think elements of them were not good,. They were incitement to hatred, and I think that’s why the media left out aspects of them. I think they were right to not include [Casey’s full comments in news reports]. I don’t think that they were helpful, and this is the kind of thing that the far right latches on to.”

What was striking was the ease with which Holland moves directly into the suppression of a story as the guardian of the public good. Some news is simply “not helpful” so the media should not allow the public to be exposed to it.

Holland previously won the Journalist of the Year, News Reporter of the Year, and the Overall winner of the Justice Media Awards.

Holland’s view is consistent with many in the media in the United States today.

I have long been a critic of what I called “advocacy journalism” as it began to emerge in journalism schools. These schools encourage students to use their “lived expertise” and to “leave[] neutrality behind.” Instead, of neutrality, they are pushing “solidarity [as] ‘a commitment to social justice that translates into action.’”

For example, we previously discussed the release of the results of interviews with over 75 media leaders by former executive editor for The Washington Post Leonard Downie Jr. and former CBS News President Andrew Heyward. They concluded that objectivity is now considered reactionary and even harmful. Emilio Garcia-Ruiz, editor-in-chief at the San Francisco Chronicle said it plainly: “Objectivity has got to go.”

Saying that “Objectivity has got to go” is, of course, liberating. You can dispense with the necessities of neutrality and balance. You can cater to your “base” like columnists and opinion writers. Sharing the opposing view is now dismissed as “bothsidesism.” Done. No need to give credence to opposing views. It is a familiar reality for those of us in higher education, which has been increasingly intolerant of opposing or dissenting views.

Downie recounted how news leaders today

“believe that pursuing objectivity can lead to false balance or misleading “bothsidesism” in covering stories about race, the treatment of women, LGBTQ+ rights, income inequality, climate change and many other subjects. And, in today’s diversifying newsrooms, they feel it negates many of their own identities, life experiences and cultural contexts, keeping them from pursuing truth in their work.”

There was a time when all journalists shared a common “identity” as professionals who were able to separate their own bias and values from the reporting of the news.

Now, objectivity is virtually synonymous with prejudice. Kathleen Carroll, former executive editor at the Associated Press declared “It’s objective by whose standard? … That standard seems to be White, educated, and fairly wealthy.”

In an interview with The Stanford Daily, Stanford journalism professor, Ted Glasser, insisted that journalism needed to “free itself from this notion of objectivity to develop a sense of social justice.” He rejected the notion that journalism is based on objectivity and said that he views “journalists as activists because journalism at its best — and indeed history at its best — is all about morality.” Thus, “Journalists need to be overt and candid advocates for social justice, and it’s hard to do that under the constraints of objectivity.”

Yesterday, 29 November 2023, Parliament debated the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill. The Government proposed two new amendments (New Clause 34 and New Schedule 1) to give it the power to inspect the bank accounts of people claiming social security, such as benefits or the state pension.

The Government's argument is that this will allow them to reduce fraud and error in the social security system. However, the powers are wide-ranging and do not have clear safeguards. The Government also only admitted that the powers allowed them to inspect the accounts of those who could receive the State Pension (i.e., almost everyone) after being questioned in Parliament.

Any future accident at the Sellafield nuclear site could be worse than Chernobyl, according to experts.

Europe's most hazardous nuclear site, which is in Cumbria, has a leak that's getting worse and may threaten the public. Leaked official documents show that Sellafield's board members were warned in November 2022 of the "cumulative risk" of nuclear security failings.

A Guardian investigation has revealed that there are cracks in a toxic sludge reservoir known as a B30, as well as in the concrete and asphalt layer covering a huge pond containing decades of nuclear sludge. The publication alleges that these physical issues are part of a slew of problems at the ailing nuclear site.

US Joins 21 Other Countries In Pledge To Triple Nuclear Energy Capacity By 2050

The United States and 21 other countries from four continents signed a pledge at the United Nations climate summit on Dec. 2 to triple global nuclear energy capacity by 2050 from the levels recorded in 2020.

The declaration was signed at the U.N. Climate Change Conference, also known as COP28, held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It recognizes "the key role of nuclear energy in achieving global net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and keeping the 1.5-degree goal within reach."

"Core elements of the declaration include working together to advance a goal of tripling nuclear energy capacity globally by 2050 and inviting shareholders of international financial institutions to encourage the inclusion of nuclear energy in energy lending policies," the U.S. Department of Energy stated.

The countries that endorsed the pledge are the United States, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Ghana, Hungary, Japan, South Korea, Moldova, Mongolia, Morocco, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.

In the declaration, the 22 signatory countries promise to "support the development and construction of nuclear reactors," such as small modular and other advanced reactors for power generation.

They pledged to "mobilize investments in nuclear power," including through innovative financing mechanisms, such as engaging with shareholders of the World Bank, international financial institutions, and regional development banks.

It recognizes the importance of extending the lifetimes of nuclear power plants "that operate in line with the highest standards of safety, sustainability, security, and non-proliferation, as appropriate."

The declaration also includes a commitment to "support responsible nations looking to explore new civil nuclear deployment under the highest standards of safety, sustainability, security, and non-proliferation."

Speaking at the summit, U.S. climate envoy John Kerry said the world can't achieve "net zero" emissions without building new reactors.

"We are not making the argument that this is absolutely going to be the sweeping alternative to every other energy source," Mr. Kerry said during a launch ceremony.

"But ... you can't get to net zero 2050 without some nuclear, just as you can't get there without some use of carbon capture, utilization, and storage."

Global nuclear capacity now stands at 370 gigawatts, with 31 countries running reactors. That accounts for almost 10 percent of the world’s total electricity and a quarter of its low-carbon supply. However, tripling that capacity by 2050 would require a significant scaling up in new approvals and finance.

To this end, rebel Tories have been plotting to replace unpopular Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and their latest proposed solution sounds crazy: Boris Johnson!

Wild-haired Johnson could return as Prime Minister under these astonishing plans – and a ‘dream ticket’ leadership tie-up with Brexit leader Nigel Farage is even being considered.

The plot comes as Sunak faces a crunch vote on his flagship plan of sending migrants awaiting asylum to Rwanda.

Tory whips using both ‘the carrot and the stick’ to try to quell the revolt.

“Mr.. Sunak’s Tory enemies have drawn up what they crudely call an ‘Advent calendar of s**t’ to further destabilize the Prime Minister following his sacking of Suella Braverman as Home Secretary and the resignation of Robert Jenrick as Immigration Minister over attempts to salvage the Rwanda plan.

The MPs intend to rebel in Commons votes and make increasingly outspoken interventions, with No 10 nervously braced for further Ministerial resignations. One plotter admitted the intention was to ‘crash’ the Sunak Government and install a leader who could close the gap with Sir Keir Starmer’s Labour party.”

Polling figures show Tory support sinking, and – what’s worse – many non-Labour voters are turning to the Reform Party, the successor to Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party.

Farage has become much more popular after his successful run on ITV reality show I’m A Celebrity.

Boris Johnson is seen as the only Conservative with the pulling power to neutralize Farage’s impact.

A spokesman for Mr. Johnson denied the existence of any plans to team up with Mr. Farage, saying that Johnson is currently writing a book, and is supporting the Government.

“Neither Mr. Johnson nor Mr. Farage is currently in Parliament, but Boris’s supporters believe that if an MP quit a safe seat before the Election to make way for Mr. Johnson, Tory high command would be unable to block it. A leadership contest would then be triggered if at least 53 letters of no confidence in Mr. Sunak were sent to Sir Graham Brady, chair of the backbench 1922 Committee.”

But the alliance is not going to be easy: some Reform Party officials have said their aim was to ‘kill off’ the Conservatives.

“When Nigel gets back [from the ITV reality show] he’s going to start dominating the agenda. Within about six to eight weeks we’ll be polling in the high teens, and the Tories will start to slip below 20 per cent. At that point between five and ten MPs will realise the game’s up, and defect to us. Then it’s game over. We’re looking at the last majority Tory administration of our lifetime. We’re going to destroy them.”

Party donors are reportedly already starting to switch to Reform.

Nigel Farage reached millions of voters through the hit ITV reality show.

“One Tory MP said: ‘When Farage comes back he’s going to be all over the airwaves, and he’s going to have us in his sights.’ Another said: ‘Reform are going to kill us, so we have to buy Farage off. The plan is we get him into the Lords, give him some [cabinet position] like we did with Cameron – maybe even Home Secretary – then go to the country with the dream team.”

Johnson’s supporters surprisingly include MPs who helped to oust him from Downing Street last year, following scandals like ‘Partygate’.

A US watchdog has told DailyMail.com that the seizure of American candies in the UK should be a wake-up call for Americans about what's in their food.

On Monday, footage from the UK showed workers stuffing American candy and sodas - which are found in virtually every US store — into trash bags as regulators get tough on US imports.

Candies like Jolly Rancher, Swedish Fish and Lemonhead contain several additives that are legal in the US but banned under EU and UK law due to their links to cancer, infertility and other problems.

The watchdog Consumer Reports said the video should trigger a shift in food policy in the US and urged officials here to 'do more' to protect adults and children.

They called for the list of food additives banned in the US to be expanded — to include more food dyes and chemicals outlawed in Europe years ago.

The Food and Drugs Administration has been under increasing pressure to tighten its regulations on food additives in recent months.

California outlawed four food additives — brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, propyl paraben, and red dye no.3 — in October amid concerns over their links to cancer and other health problems.

New York and Pennsylvania are now also looking to follow suit, DailyMail.com exclusively revealed.

Brian Ronholm, director of food policy at Consumer Reports, said: 'The chemical additives that are to be banned under the California law are certainly a good start for addressing this issue in the US.

'However, as this import action in the UK highlights, more needs to be done.

'The list of chemical additives to target and scrutinize should be expanded to include synthetic food dyes and other chemicals that have been linked to cancer and other adverse health conditions.'

He added: 'What is ultimately needed in the US is for the FDA to modernize and strengthen its regulatory process for food additives.'

The UK and European Union outlawed many of these additives decades ago.

Representatives in California say that everyone in America deserves to be 'as well protected' as people in Europe.

Dr Carolyn Williams, a dietician based in Alabama, told DailyMail.com that she hoped the images would 'motivate' US regulators to take action.

'We should be moving the way that Europe is moving, the way that California is moving,' she said. 'That would be a great first step for the country.'

'We are way overdue in the US to adopt some of the EU's food policies.'

The mother-of-two added: 'I wish [additive bans] would trick over into the US.

'I saw very early in one of my children the effects of food additives.

Among them are Twizzlers and Lemonhead, which contain mineral oil — a substance derived from petroleum that studies suggest raise the risk of cancer.

Dubble Bubble is being removed because it contains BHT, or butylated hydroxytoluene, which studies show can promote tumor growth and impair blood clotting.

UK officials were also cracking down on Mountain Dew because it contains calcium disodium EDTA, which is linked to cancer.

And Sunny D and Mirinda were seized because they contain potassium sorbate, a food preservative that raises the risk of allergic reaction.

Report: Russian Sub Probes Ireland's Defenses, Loiters Off Cork Harbor

The Russian Navy has discovered an apparent weak spot in the UK's maritime defenses - Ireland, whose underresourced navy guards the UK's western flank. According to the Irish Examiner, the Irish Navy's two operational patrol vessels lack submarine-detecting capability, leaving the nation dependent on the UK Royal Navy for sub-hunting duties.

A newly-disclosed incident just off Cork appears to illustrate the challenge for Ireland's stretched naval forces. According to the Irish Examiner, a Russian submarine loitered outside of the 12-nautical mile line off the coast of Cork, accompanied by a nominally civilian Russian surface vessel. The sub stayed there until a Royal Navy frigate and antisubmarine warfare helicopter arrived on scene.

The Irish Navy has not had a vessel with operational sonar since the 1990s, according to the outlet, and only has two operational patrol vessels left. It is critically shorthanded, to the point that it has hired a third-party recruiter to try to fill specialty billets with foreign nationals.

Russian naval activity has been on the rise off the British Isles for several years, and close-in patrols like the one at Cork have happened several times, according to the report.

In April, the Russian pipelay barge Fortuna - famous for its role in completing the Nord Stream 2 pipeline - circled off Ireland's west and southwest coast, under tow by the Russian anchor handler Umka and escorted by the salvage tug Bakhtemir. The area hosts more than a dozen subsea cables connecting the British Isles with the rest of the world, including one cable that was recently installed. This Russian patrol raised concern in Irish defense circles, and the Irish Air Corps was dispatched to photograph the Russian convoy.

Italy’s Giorgia Meloni and U.K.’s Rishi Sunak Join Forces to Tackle Mass Migration to Europe

2024 was the year Europe finally woke up to the danger of unchecked mass migration, hoping it’s not too late.

Conservative leaders are trying to tackle the issue that is mobilizing public opinion. To do that, they need to buck the Globalists entrenched in every country, notably in the Mainstream Media.

The leaders of Italy and the U.K. are joining forces, and agreed on Saturday to jointly address the irregular migration to Europe, intensifying cooperation ‘in the fight against human trafficking’.

“Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni and U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who held talks in Rome, were also joined by Albanian counterpart Edi Rama, who is seen as a key ally in the efforts to manage migrant arrivals from North Africa to European shores.

Meloni’s office said in a statement after the meeting that the talks with Sunak ‘focused primarily on the joint work in the field of migration within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in London’ in April.”

Meloni and Sunak agreed to co-fund a first Italian-British ‘project of assisted voluntary repatriations to countries of origin’.

The two leaders, plus Albanian’s Rama, agreed on the need to manage illegal migration ‘in an increasingly structured manner’.

After meeting PM Meloni, Sunak dropped by a political gathering organized by her Brothers of Italy party.

Other international guests included billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk.

“In his speech at the event, Sunak warned that failing to tackle the issue of irregular migration would end up “destroying the public’s faith” in politicians and governments. […] Sunak also stressed that if that ‘requires us to update our laws and lead an international conversation to amend the post-war frameworks around asylum, then we must do that’.”

The Italian and Albanian governments have closed a deal inspired by the U.K. government’s attempts to deport asylum-seekers to Rwanda.

The Albanian constitutional court has however suspended the ratification of this plan in parliament, pending a decision on judicial challenges to the plan.

Meanwhile, back in England, the expected (and inevitable) pushback from liberals, leftists and Globalists is ongoing, with PM Sunak being accused of adopting the ‘toxic’ rhetoric of former home secretary Suella Braverman.

Sunak said that ‘enemies’ were ‘deliberately driving people to our shores to try to destabilize our society’.

New UK Carbon Import Levy: A Cloak for Protectionist Tariffs?

By Kylie MacLellan and Susanna Twidale (Reuters) Britain will implement a new carbon import levy on some products from 2027 to help to protect businesses against cheaper imports from countries with less strict climate policies, the government said on Monday.

The planned carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) will apply to carbon-intensive products in the iron, steel, aluminum, fertilizer, hydrogen, ceramics, glass and cement sectors.

The charge applied will depend on the amount of carbon emitted in the production of the imported good and any gap between the carbon price applied in the country of origin and the carbon price faced by UK producers.

“This levy will make sure carbon-intensive products from overseas – like steel and ceramics – face a comparable carbon price to those produced in the UK, so that our decarbonization efforts translate into reductions in global emissions,” finance minister Jeremy Hunt said.

Britain, which has a target of reaching net zero emissions by 2050, launched an emissions trading system (ETS) in 2021 to charge power plants, factories and airlines for each tonne of carbon dioxide they emit as part of efforts to meet that goal.

Many other regions such as the European Union and China operate such systems, but prices within the schemes vary and many regions have no carbon pricing at all.

Britain’s benchmark ETS carbon contract UKAFMZ3 currently trades around 36.60 pounds ($46.34) per metric ton while contracts in China’s ETS trade around 71.60 yuan ($10.04) a ton.

Britain said the levy would help to reduce the risk of so-called carbon leakage, avoiding emissions being displaced to other countries because they have a lower or no carbon price.

The European Union in September launched the first phase of a system to impose CO2 emissions tariffs on imported steel, cement and other goods. It will not begin collecting any CO2 emission charges at the border until 2026.

Britain’s steel industry believes the domestic measure is needed to prevent a flood of high-emission products coming to the UK once the EU’s carbon measure is up and running.

“With over 90% of global steel production facing no carbon cost, it is only right that a new carbon border policy is put in place,” Gareth Stace, director general of industry group UK Steel, said in a statement.

“However, implementing the UK scheme one year after the EU CBAM starts is hugely concerning.”

The planned EU tariff has caused disquiet among trading partners and at a recent forum, China’s top climate envoy, Xie Zhenhua, urged countries not to resort to unilateral measures such as the EU levy.

A lot of people are fed up with the whole AI subject. Some even feel like if they never hear of this subject again, it’ll be soon enough.

But whatever our personal feelings, there’s no denying that these technologies are spreading like wild fire to a multitude of fields of activity.

And once it enters the realm of regulators, law enforcement and the judiciary – which it is in the process of doing – the implications for our civil liberties are impossible to dismiss.

Consider this: England’s 1,000-year-old legal system — wigs, robes and all — is giving judges permission to ‘use artificial intelligence to help produce rulings’.

Yes, you read that right.

“The Courts and Tribunals Judiciary last month said AI could help write opinions but stressed it shouldn’t be used for research or legal analyses because the technology can fabricate information and provide misleading, inaccurate and biased information.

‘Judges do not need to shun the careful use of AI’, said Master of the Rolls Geoffrey Vos, the second-highest ranking judge in England and Wales. ‘But they must ensure that they protect confidence and take full personal responsibility for everything they produce’.”

A profession slow to embrace technological change reacts to a rapidly advancing technology alternately portrayed as a panacea and a menace – or both.

“’There’s a vigorous public debate right now about whether and how to regulate artificial intelligence’, said Ryan Abbott, a law professor at the University of Surrey and author of ‘The Reasonable Robot: Artificial Intelligence and the Law’.

‘AI and the judiciary is something people are uniquely concerned about, and it’s somewhere where we are particularly cautious about keeping humans in the loop’, he said. ‘So I do think AI may be slower disrupting judicial activity than it is in other areas and we’ll proceed more cautiously there’.”

U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts did addresse artificial intelligence usage in his annual report, but the federal court system in America has no guidance on AI.

US State and county courts, furthermore, are too fragmented for a universal approach.

Cary Coglianese, law professor at the University of Pennsylvania: “’It is certainly one of the first, if not the first, published set of AI-related guidelines in the English language that applies broadly and is directed to judges and their staffs’, Coglianese said of the guidance for England and Wales. ‘I suspect that many, many judges have internally cautioned their staffs about how existing policies of confidentiality and use of the internet apply to the public-facing portals that offer ChatGPT and other such services’.”

The danger of the technology have already manifested itself in the infamous incident where two New York lawyers relied on ChatGPT to write a legal brief that quoted fictional cases. The two were fined by an angry judge who called the work they had signed off on ‘legal gibberish’.

UK Covid Vaccine Investigation 'Unexpectedly' Postponed

The long-awaited “Covid vaccine inquiry” has been postponed for mysterious reasons.

The hearings have been postponed to occur ‘after the general election.’

The Covid inquiry will not start hearing evidence about the development of vaccines and other drugs this summer, as originally planned. Witness hearings will be postponed until a later date, likely to be after the next general election.

Interestingly, it took roughly eleven months to develop, test, and approve COVID-19 vaccines. The UK’s own AstraZeneca vaccine development started in February 2020, and the MHRA approved it in December 2020. However, it will take longer than that even to begin the UK Covid vaccine investigation.

When there is a will, there is a way. Here, we are witnessing the opposite: the UK’s powers-to-be want to postpone the COVID vaccine investigation for as long as possible and, most importantly for them, until after the next election.

Anthony Fauci Finally Admits the Truth About Evidence Behind COVID Guidelines

Americans who trusted the science when Dr. Anthony Fauci told them to be six feet apart to prevent the spread of COVID-19 learned Wednesday there was no science behind the edict.

After two days of interviews behind closed doors to the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, a news release posted on the website of the House Oversight Committee revealed that “Fauci claimed that the ‘6 feet apart’ social distancing recommendation promoted by federal health officials was likely not based on any data. He characterized the development of the guidance by stating ‘it sort of just appeared.’”

GOP Rep. Brad Wenstrup of Ohio, the panel’s chairman, said Fauci admitted to legislators that “the policies and mandates he promoted may unfortunately increase vaccine hesitancy for years to come.”

“He testified that the lab leak hypothesis — which was often suppressed — was, in fact, not a conspiracy theory,” Wenstrup said. The lab leak theory claims that the coronavirus was released from the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China, and not from natural sources, as Fauci initially claimed.

The release noted that the admission came “nearly four years after prompting the publication of the now infamous ‘Proximal Origin’ paper that attempted to vilify and disprove the lab leak hypothesis.” The release also said Fauci, who denied trying to pressure the CIA on the lab-leak theory, “played semantics with the definition of a ‘lab-leak.’”

“Dr. Fauci’s transcribed interview revealed systemic failures in our public health system and shed light on serious procedural concerns with our public health authority. It is clear that dissenting opinions were often not considered or suppressed completely,” Wenstrup said.

During Fauci’s second day of testimony, he said that he advised colleges to impose vaccine mandates on students.

A release summarizing the first day of Fauci’s testimony quoted Wenstrup as saying that Fauci “signed off on all domestic and foreign research grants without reviewing the proposals and admitted that he was unaware if NIAID conducted oversight of the laboratories they fund.” Fauci, who is now retired, was director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

“It is also concerning that the face of our nation’s response to the world’s worst public health crisis ‘does not recall’ key details about COVID-19 origins and pandemic-era policies,” Wenstrup said. The release said Fauci claimed more than 100 times that he could not recall events about which he was questioned.

The release said Fauci continued to deny, as he has in the past, that the National Institutes of Health funded “gain-of-function research in Wuhan,” where COVID-19 emerged, noting that Fauci “repeatedly played semantics with the definition of gain-of-function in an attempt to avoid conceding that NIH funded potentially dangerous research in China.”

Republican Rep. Michael Cloud of Texas, a member of the panel interviewing Fauci, said the former White House adviser has an “amazing ability to either forget what happened or then to find ways to shirk any sort of responsibility for the influence that was had,” according to the New York Post.

​​“They wash their hands of any sort of responsibility, saying, ‘Oh, those decisions were made by school districts.’ But the school districts know, if you don’t follow the guidance that’s coming out of the federal government, you open yourselves up to lawsuits,” Cloud said.

“He says he’s still not convinced that there was learning loss — that in his view, that’s still really open for discussion. I think [if] you ask any parent, they’ll tell you it was a major hit on their child’s development,” he said.

Wenstrup said Fauci “admitted that the mandate could increase vaccine hesitancy,” according to the Washington Examiner.

“I can’t get into his mind, but I think he felt it was the right thing to do because he thought it would save lives, but he basically was saying the lesson learned [was it] didn’t get into the psyche of America,” Wenstrup said.

“We have a problem in our country, and now people don’t want to get any vaccines,” Wenstrup said. “The mRNA vaccine is different. The messaging was never really good, and I don’t think America ever felt like they were being educated. They were getting indoctrinated,” he said.

Transcripts of the interviews will be released in the future, Wenstrup said.

UK Parliament Launches Probe on Decommissioning Two Royal Marines Vessels

Following reports that the UK government is considering retiring the Royal Navy’s two Albion Class assault ships, the House of Commons Defence Committee announced it will launch a probe as well as a broader look at the status of the service. The plans for an evidence session to be held within the next few weeks come as the Defence Committee has also expressed concerns about the current government’s plans for the Royal Navy and Marines.

Last week, several local news outlets reported that Secretary of Defense Grant Shapps had decided to decommission both HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark, ten years earlier than their scheduled phase-out. The reports said the decision was reached due to the recruitment crisis facing the Royal Navy. By standing down the two vessels the reports suggest the Royal Navy would reassign the crews to the new fleet of Type 26 frigates joining service.

Defence Minister James Cartlidge was quick to respond to the reports saying “No final decision has been made on these platforms.”

The two ships are amphibious Landing Platform Docks, designed to transport the Royal Marines and their equipment. The two vessels, which are the only ones of their kind in the fleet, were commissioned in 2004 and 2005 and in its materials, the Royal Navy highlights the versatility of the vessels. Each has a crew of approximately 325 sailors and can also accommodate up to 400 additional troops, as well as 31 trucks, 36 smaller vehicles, battle tanks, and on their flight deck can also house two Merlin or Sea King helicopters and two Chinook heavy-lift helicopters. There is also a floodable well dock that can take four Landing Craft Utility boats.

HMS Albion was deployed for six years from 2018 to the summer of 2023 sailing the world, initially to the Far East, and later spending most winters and springs in the Arctic and Baltic with fall deployments to the Mediterranean. She returned to Portsmouth in July 2023 with her duties scheduled to be assumed in 2024 by her sister ship HMS Bulwark after the vessel completes an extended period of refurbishment. As per recent Royal Navy plans, HMS Albion is to be held in reserve for the next few years, and both vessels were scheduled to remain in service until at least 2034.

The Defence Committee in a 2018 report titled “Sunset for the Royal Marines?” warned that an early disposal of HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark would be “militarily illiterate” and “totally at odds with strategic reality.”

Responding to the new reports, the Defence Committee said that it is deeply concerned with the information that the government is considering retiring the two vessels. Losing these ships, they said would make successful amphibious landings very difficult. The Defence Committee highlighted that the suggested alternatives are unlikely to fill the hole HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark would leave in the capabilities of the Royal Navy.

Parliament’s planned evidence session the sponsors said will help to map the impact of losing these ships and to hold the UK government to account for its plans for the Royal Marines’ capabilities.

AstraZeneca is is facing tens of millions of pounds in compensation claims from 35 alleged victims over complications they say were caused by the Covid-19 vaccine.

The pharmaceutical giant, which developed its jab in partnership with the University of Oxford, is set to face a High Court battle over claims the vaccine is 'defective'.

It has been linked to a newly identified condition called Vaccine-Induced Immune Thrombocytopenia and Thrombosis (VITT) which causes blood clots.

At least 81 people have died due to complications linked to the very rare side effect while hundreds of others have also suffered illness as a result.

In what may be one of the biggest cases of its kind, more cases are expected to be lodged, meaning the vaccine manufacturer could face up to £80million in compensation payouts if it loses, according to The Telegraph.

The government indemnified AstraZeneca and other vaccine manufacturers as it sought to roll out vaccines during the pandemic.

Under Vaccine Damage Payment scheme, victims of certain vaccines, including ones used to beat Covid, are entitled to a one-off 'all-or-nothing' sum of £120,000 from the Government.

Tory MP Sir Jeremy Wright, whose constituent Jamie Scott suffered a 'significant permanent brain injury' from a blood clot after getting the job in 2021, has urged the government to take action.

The former Attorney General said: 'The public need the confidence to know they will be looked after if in the tiny, tiny minority of cases where the vaccine has gone wrong.

'And that confidence is damaged if the Government does not step in and settle these cases.'

The claimants are suing under the Consumer Protection Act, suggesting that the vaccine was not as safe as those who received it were led to believe.

AstraZeneca is fighting the claims, calling them 'confused' and 'wrong in law'.

The company has also pointed to the millions of lives the vaccine is believed to have saved in its first year of rollout.

The AstraZeneca vaccine is not being used as part of the UK's booster programme after experts recommended mRNA vaccines – such as the Pfizer or Moderna jabs – should be used instead.

Vaccine complications have been listed on the death certificates of a number of people who were administered the AstraZeneca jab.

The head of the British army alerted UK citizens to be prepared for a war fought on the scale of the great conflicts of the 20th Century – and that they may need to be mobilized.

“Speaking at the International Armored Vehicles exhibition in London, General Sir Patrick Sanders said the Russian invasion of Ukraine is a sign of things to come, warning that the lessons of previous wars must be remembered before it is too late.

Our predecessors failed to perceive the implications of the so-called July Crisis in 1914 and stumbled into the most ghastly of wars’, he said. ‘We cannot afford to make the same mistake today. Ukraine really matters’.”

General Sanders insisted that the scale of this potential conflict he envisions ‘must not be underestimated’.

“‘This war is not merely about the black soil of the Donbas, nor the re-establishment of a Russian empire, it’s about defeating our system and way of life politically, psychologically, and symbolically. How we respond as the pre-war generation will reverberate through history. Ukrainian bravery is buying time, for now’.

The general also called for a near-doubling in size of the British army. The UK military in general plans to reverse a long-term recruitment crisis that has shrunk its numbers even as British forces participate in various missions overseas.”

While traditional mobilization sending people to the frontline was important, everyday British citizens must be prepared for a level of civic mobilization not seen since WW2.

Sanders’ calls for a ‘whole-of-nation’ war echo German defense minister Boris Pistorius, who made radical pleas for Germany to prepare for war with Russia.

In a move that’s recurring in PM Rishi Sunak’s embattled government, officials had to go out and dismiss the general’s ideas.

Gas-Addicted Europe Trades One Energy Risk For Another

Jan 27, 2024 (Bloomberg) –Europe, long-reliant on Russian natural gas, has nearly severed its dependency on the Kremlin in less than two years. Its preferred replacement — gas from the US — is widely viewed as abundant, politically palatable and less likely to be choked off than pipelines from Siberia.

It’s also growing riskier by the day.

On Friday, the White House announced the polarizing decision to halt the approval of new export permits for liquefied natural gas, or LNG, amid a backlash from climate-minded voters. The pause, which won’t affect those plants already under construction or in operation, threatens to delay or even derail some of the massive projects expected to hit the market toward the end of the decade and beyond.

“US LNG continues to be the cornerstone of Europe’s supply diversification strategy,” said Leslie Palti-Guzman, head of research and market intelligence at SynMax. The Biden decision sends a real message “regarding solidarity and the reliability of its supply in the medium to long term. This is particularly crucial at a juncture where supplies from Russia” and other shippers can be “mired in unpredictability.”

Even before the permit freeze shook buyers across the globe, Europe’s rapidly expanded reliance on US LNG might have given Brussels pause. In a very short window, the US has carved out a meaningful share of Europe’s gas supply, eclipsing any remaining Russian deliveries. America’s booming shipments today account for about half of the region’s LNG imports, a share that is widely expected to grow further. When considering gas shipped through pipelines as well, the US is the bloc’s second-largest gas supplier after neighbor Norway — a serious coup for the North American nation that only began exporting its shale gas in 2016.

Although the US is a major G-7 ally with unsurpassed economic clout and relative political stability, an outsized dependence on even a friendly nation brings risks. Europe’s decision to swap Russian gas for American LNG instead of a harder pivot to renewables means its energy security remains dependent on factors far outside its control, like the Atlantic hurricane season or political gamesmanship in Washington, DC. To procure the fuel that’s key to heating Europe’s homes, generating its power and feeding its industries, energy traders must now factor in events thousands of miles away. Outages at Gulf Coast plants or sudden cold snaps from Houston to Guangzhou can redraw the map for profitable trades overnight.

“European reliance on US LNG will only grow if more Russian gas does not reappear and the Qataris decide not to engage in a price war for market share. The reward for Europe is a diverse set of US suppliers,” said Ira Joseph, senior research associate at the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University. “The risk is a major change in US policy in the future.”

In short, by exchanging fossil-fuel suppliers, Europe has swapped one potential handicap for another, leaving its energy system vulnerable and exposed.

Europe’s decreased reliance on gas from Russia began even before Vladimir Putin’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine. The relationship between the world powers grew strained in 2014 when Russia annexed the Crimea region; tensions further escalated the following year as state-owned gas giant Gazprom PJSC was accused of market-power abuse by the bloc’s competition watchdog.

Months before its most recent Ukraine invasion, Russia pared back pipeline deliveries and stopped offering spot volumes to Europe, tactical moves some said were intended to inflate prices and speed approval of the controversial — and now mangled — Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Two weeks after Russian forces entered Ukraine in February 2022, inciting panic-buying of all LNG cargoes available on the world market, the EU laid out a definitive plan to replace flows from its biggest supplier.

US LNG was the clear choice to fill the gap. A relative geographical closeness meant savings for traders sending US cargoes to Europe instead of Asia; the affluent region also had more purchasing power to snag the pricey shipments. Also working in US gas’s favor: Its contracts are nearly always written to be “destination flexible,” meaning traders are allowed to divert tankers if necessary when the price is right. They can even cancel shipments if demand suddenly collapses. The EU’s LNG imports surged by 60% in 2022, and abundant LNG from Europe’s long-held political ally was the biggest contributor by far.

“I’ve traveled all around the world, especially in Europe, and the message I always hear is: ‘Hooray for American LNG producers,’” US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt said in October at the North American Gas Forum in Washington.

That appreciation may be waning with President Joe Biden’s latest move. After Russia invaded Ukraine, his administration made a pledge to the EU to quickly review applications for any new export capabilities, Fred Hutchison, president and chief executive officer of LNG Allies, said Friday. “Today’s announcement does not keep faith with that pledge.”

It’s too early to know if the US review will force any companies to pull their plans permanently; if reelected, Biden might very well allow the process to move forward once safely back in office for another four years.

“This could be a pause for political purposes, to appease Biden’s base in the run-up to the general election. Or it could be a longer halt to permitting that clamps down on the chances of these terminals being approved longer term,” said Energy Aspects gas analyst David Seduski. If a Republican, like Donald Trump, wins the presidency instead, the regulatory halt will “almost certainly be undone” in early 2025, he said.

But even a Trump win wouldn’t be a surefire sign the country’s so-called “freedom molecules” will continue to flow to Europe. During his time in the White House, Trump proved willing to use trade war tactics to push his policies, particularly against China, and there’s no guarantee the EU would stay out of the crosshairs. Even if the permit delay ends up being just a short-term hiccup, it’s still a deafening wake-up call to European buyers that US gas can’t escape US politics.

The European Commission is not concerned about a growing dependency on US LNG because there aren’t the same levels of political risks as with Russia, said a senior EU official who wasn’t authorized to speak publicly.

But others see potential challenges ahead. A growing reliance on US gas is creating a “concentration risk” for the industry, Jonty Shepard, vice president of global LNG trading and origination at BP Plc, said at a late-2023 industry conference in Athens. “The industry as a whole is going to have to learn how to deal with that going forward.”

Here are the other reasons Europe’s appetite for US LNG have some on edge:

It gives the US outsized geopolitical influence. At the height of the crisis, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire blamed LNG exporters for using Russia’s war on Ukraine to encourage “American economic domination and a weakening of Europe” and called for a more balanced economic partnership with the US. Western Europe hasn’t much heeded the warning, importing more LNG from the US last year than from its other eight biggest suppliers combined. The more reliant Europe is on the US, the harder it will be to push back on disagreements, from prices to policy. “Europe risks being dependent on one supplier and ultimately at the mercy of the prices they set,” said Ogan Kose, a managing director at consultancy Accenture.

It risks inflating Europe’s energy bills. Since most of Europe’s LNG supply is priced off the volatile spot market, buyers there are more exposed to the ebb and flow of global supplies than Asian buyers, who mainly source it under long-term contracts linked to the price of oil, said Massimo Di Odoardo, vice president of gas and LNG research at Wood Mackenzie. LNG shipments can be easily diverted to the highest bidder, so a larger-then-expected surge in Chinese demand or nuclear outages in Japan could shift more American gas to Asia, shortchanging Europe. As extra US capacity hits the market, prices will come down — eventually.

It means events 5,000 miles away will impact the EU’s energy supply. When natural gas — once shipped only via pipelines — began to traverse the world on tankers, it transformed a once localized market into a global commodity. That carries a whole new set of unpredictable factors. Any issues at US LNG plants an ocean away, from a malfunctioning valve to dense fog, can hit supplies. And disruptions will only get more frequent as climate change worsens the intensity of storms along the US coast. In 2020, Cameron LNG in Hackberry, Louisiana, was shut for weeks after a damaging hurricane; in 2022, a months-long shutdown of Freeport LNG due to an explosion sent prices of Europe’s gas purchases soaring. Of course, LNG’s global nature also brings benefits. “If there is an issue with the LNG supplier, then you can source LNG from anywhere in the world,” said Rob Butler, a partner at law firm Baker Botts LLP, which works on energy transactions.

It brings a hefty climate impact. Although gas emits less carbon dioxide than coal when burned, some argue methane leaks across the global LNG supply chains can make it worse for the climate. Still, US LNG may emit less methane than some pipeline gas routes to Europe, said Christopher Goncalves, managing director of energy and climate at Berkeley Research Group in Washington.

It risks delaying the deployment of greener energy solutions. In addition to buying more LNG, the EU in 2022 also outlined ambitious plans to boost its investments in renewables, develop green hydrogen and biomethane projects, and bolster measures to save more energy as part of its planned move away from Russian gas. In reality, almost two years later, what stands out is its increased dependency on LNG and — to some extent — reduced gas consumption. Hydrogen projects remain limited, while the renewables push is facing a blow from the offshore wind industry troubles. Current measures being put in place by EU member states aren’t sufficient to cut emissions by the targeted 55% by 2030, and the availability of US LNG won’t do anything to speed that tough transition along.

To be fair, Europe is not sitting idly by. It has started to sign some longer-term contracts to lock in LNG supply, including deals with Qatar’s state-owned operation that push into 2052. Mozambique, Nigeria, Azerbaijan and Norway are also targeting the lucrative European gas market, helping to diversify Europe’s supply.

Still, experts warn it remains far too reliant on American gas, with European companies beginning to feel the tangible effects. Germany’s chemicals industry, for instance, which generated around €230 billion ($250 billion) in sales last year, has been mired in a deep recession, partially triggered by the loss of cheap Russian gas, a key feedstock for fertilizers and source of energy for heavy industry.

“What the European chemicals industry pays for gas is almost 3 to 4 times more than what the US domestic buyer pays,” Accenture’s Kose said, comparing the price of European spot purchases to US futures prices. Even as the cost of gas has come off its record highs, German industrial giants have been cutting jobs and investing in production assets in the US instead, painting a grim picture for Europe’s biggest economy.

“When cheap Russian gas was coming to Europe, it made sense to keep a chemical plant close to the demand source as it was profitable,” Kose said. Now, with more expensive imported LNG, “moving these plants to cheap natural gas sources makes more sense.”

The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come …

But then, if what Defence Analysis is about to outline is that unlikely, we wouldn’t be writing this. But, yes other futures are available ….

It is 2026, maybe 2027, and what do UK defence capabilities look like? Bluntly, they look appalling, a complete whisp of what they once were. As the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come showed Scrooge of what awaited him, so Defence Analysis will do the same ….

Knackered Navy

The crisis in availability of pretty much every platform has accelerated, as was obvious it would in 2023. Because fleet management, maintenance, overhaul, and the underlying infrastructure had been so badly managed from the 2000s onwards, the Royal Navy is, in effect and not by choice, taking a series of capability holidays.

The Type 23 flotilla has fallen off a cliff. The early retirements that started in 2022 and into 2023 (HMSs Monmouth and Montrose) has accelerated. The drive to pretend that HMS Westminster was in any shape to be upgraded has been abandoned – the costs have leaked, and the contractor(s) will not sign up for unlimited liability if they take the work. But HMS Somerset has proved to have equalled HMS Westminster: sure, she was in refit for several years, but, in effect, with all of the work and money spent, it was only ever painting over some pretty serious cracks, and there are persistent engineering problems which cannot be overcome without a tidal wave of cash.

HMS Lancaster started the inevitable slide towards oblivion during her time as the Forward Deployed Escort in the Gulf, and returned home with rust everywhere, looking in as bad shape as she actually was. So, much like HMS Montrose, she is quietly tied up, the RN pretends she is operational, but after six months, there is no hiding the truth. And both HMS Northumberland and Kent, both of which have been “well used” (aka “thrashed”) are faced with either unscheduled – and expensive – refits, or retirement.

The shortage of funds means it is the latter.

The Type 23 fleet by 2027 is down to six hulls – and RN fleet managers fear it will be down to five, maybe even four, pretty soon – and the official out of service date of the last Type 23 is 2035 ….

But, but… the new frigates classes! HMS Glasgow is on trials, sure, as is HMS Venturer, HMSs Cardiff and Active are not far behind. But the build tempo was set at a remarkably slow rate in the late 2010s, and attempts to speed things up always failed on the altar of cost: the RN didn’t have the money to retain the older escorts, while speeding up deliveries of the new ships. And there were not the crews to man both the old and the new ships.

One Type 45 destroyer is still tied up due to a lack of crew, but the age of the class – the oldest ship will be shy of 25-years by then – means that one ship, which had seen maintenance and obsolescence management shaved in the 2010s and 2020s, is looking like a Type 23: too expensive to keep in service.

Despite claiming that the extra tied up Type 45 is “at high readiness, and can be used operationally at short notice”, she is now known in Portsmouth as HMS Doomed.

The Type 45 fleet is down to four operational useable ships – and there are concerns that another ship might also have to be declared unusable.

Crewing issues, both of ships and aircraft, means that keeping two aircraft carriers in anything like constant service has proved to be a bridge too far. Much as happened with the LPDs in the 2010s, one carrier is put into extended readiness, that is tied up alongside with no crew, with a general lack of maintenance.

The plan to retain the Hunt-class MCMVs failed as the RN could not budget to buy new second-hand tender vessels to host unmanned underwater vessels, as well as extending the life of the in-service MCMVs. The UK, the RN, which used to have a fleet of 30 MCMVs, the most capable mine warfare fleet in the entire world, is down to five Hunt-class ships – and they are showing their age – plus two UUV tender vessels – not enough to maintain the Gulf deployment, as well as the growing task for underwater infrastructure protection.

The UK MoD has been trying to “burden share” with Norway, the Netherlands, France, and even Belgium in the North Sea and Western Approaches.

The state where both HMS Albion and Bulwark were tied up, and the deep maintenance period for the latter over-ran, becomes not an anomaly, but the norm. And as a saving, one of the ships isn’t just kept at “extended readiness”, but at “very extended readiness”. As a result, HMS Albion just begins the process of deterioration and rotting.

The decline of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, that started with discontent with pay and conditions in the early-2020s, and actually led to strikes, continued. Now, with a shortfall of over 500 sailors, not only can it not crew both the three Landing Ship (Auxiliary) as well as the Replenishment Ship, it can’t find the crew for three operational Tide-class tankers, so the RN has only two fleet tankers.

On top of all this, as Defence Analysis revealed last month, the submarine fleet is not facing a cliff edge – it’s gone over it. The cost of upgrading a neglected and knackered HMS Victorious means that she is retired early – although this is not admitted for two years until a document leaks. And the two years when HMS Vanguard was being refuelled, and HMS Victorious was tied up awaiting dock space saw HMSs Vigilant and Vengeance being completely thrashed – and HMS Vigilant’s reactor has time expired.

The European Union has also opened an inquiry to verify the quantity of military supplies from each EU country and the actual destination.

He responded with a short video intended to go viral on social media promoting his lengthier response in a Daily Mail article.

“Around the world people are watching that ludicrous interview with Vladimir Putin conducted by Tucker Carlson,” raged Boris.

“And we must not fall for this tissue of lies, above all the notion that Putin is somehow fated to succeed in Ukraine, on the contrary, he is doomed to fail,” he added.

Johnson failed to mention the fact that hundreds of thousands of lives would have been saved if he hadn’t intervened to scupper the peace deal.

Tory MP Nadine Dorries also revealed in her book that Johnson sabotaged the peace deal.

In her book The Plot, former Tory MP Nadine Dorries, a hardcore Boris partisan, proudly wrote that Boris was responsible for killing a peace deal with Russia over Ukraine as it was "the right thing to do," in Boris's apparent words.

University Hospital: Trans-Women's Breast 'Milk' Just As Good As Biological Women's

A UK university hospital system has claimed that milk produced by trans-women “is as good for babies” as biological women’s breast milk.

The Telegraph reports a University of Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust’s (USHT) “letter to campaigners” noted that “after a combination of drugs,” trans-women’s milk is “comparable to that produced following the birth of a baby.”

Trans-women - biological men - must take the hormone progestin in order to develop milk-producing glands. Drugs such as domperidone (which can be prescribed for biological women who have difficulty breastfeeding) are then needed for lactation.

But even domperidone’s manufacturer warns the drug “was not intended for this” as it can cause heart issues in newborns. The drug’s patient leaflet warns domperidone “should be used during breastfeeding only if your physician considers this clearly necessary.”

Nevertheless, the USHT believes domperidone is safe for trans-women, but does note hospital staff should advise those using it on the possible implications.

Oddly, the USHT’s guidance for the drug no longer exists on its own website; in its place is a link to “La Leche League” which claims it “supports everyone who wants to breastfeed or chestfeed in reaching their goals.”

The hospital trust, which runs Royal Sussex County Hospital, Worthing Hospital and Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital among others, was also the first in Britain to use the term “chestfeeding” in place of breastfeeding because it is considered by some to be more inclusive. …

Lottie Moore, of the Policy Exchange, which uncovered the letter, said the trust “is unbalanced and naïve in its assertion that the secretions produced by a male on hormones can nourish an infant in the way a mother’s breast milk can”.

Maya Forstater, the director of campaign group Sex Matters, said: “For a chief executive and medical director of an NHS trust to prioritise trans identities over what is best for mothers and their babies is deeply disturbing.”

The USHT said it “stand[s] by the facts of the letter” and its supporting evidence.

This is where we are in London.

Rishi Sunak: Islamist extremists and the far right feed off and embolden each other. They are equally desperate to pretend that their violence is somehow justified, when actually these groups are two sides of the same extremist coin. Neither group, except that change in our country can only come through the peaceful democratic process. Both loathe the pluralist, modern country we are.

Both want to set Britain against Britain, to weaponize the evils of anti Semitism and anti muslim hatred for their own ends. The faith of Islam peacefully practiced by millions of our fellow citizens is emphatically not the same thing as the extremist political ideology of Islamism, which aims to separate Muslims from the rest of society. Islamist extremists and far right groups are spreading a poison. That poison is extremism. It aims to drain us of our confidence in ourselves as a people and in our shared future.

They want us to doubt ourselves, to doubt each other, to doubt our country’s history and achievements. They want us to accept a moral equivalence between Britain and some of the most despicable regimes in the world. They want us to believe that our country, and the west more generally, is solely responsible for the world’s ills, and that we, along with our allies, are the problem. In short, they want to destroy our confidence and hope. We must not allow that to happen.

When these groups claim that Britain is and has been on the wrong side of history, we should reject it, and reject it again, and again.

Just wondering… When was the last time the “far right” blew up the subway and buses in London? When was the last time the far right vandalized war memorials?

Just wondering.

Ukrainian Man Selling Poison for Suicide on Online Forums Busted by British Media – Chemical Is Deadly Even In Small Doses, Responsible for Hundreds of UK Deaths

The culture of death keeps spreading like wildfire in many Western societies, with state-sponsored assisted suicide, ‘death sarcophagus,’ for sale, and generally, an ongoing worldwide phenomenon in which people have help and incentives to take their own lives.

The latest trend in this horrendous reality is people buying poison chemicals online.

A Canadian chef, Kenneth Law, who was arrested in 2023 and is now facing 14 murder charges.

The British Broadcasting Company (BBC) has just busted an Ukrainian man selling the poison thought to be linked to at least 130 deaths in the United Kingdom.

The man, identified as Leonid Zakutenko, advertised his deadly services on a website promoting suicide. He reportedly told an undercover reporter he sent five parcels a week to the UK.

The chemical, fatal even in small doses, can legally be sold in the Kingdom, but ‘only to companies using it for a legitimate purpose’.

BBC reported:

“The chemical Zakutenko sells is openly discussed on the forum used by [victim] Linda, with members advising one another on how to buy and then use it. The chemical may be linked to more than 130 UK deaths since 2019, according to scientist Prof Amrita Ahluwalia, an expert in vascular pharmacology at Queen Mary University of London.”

Ahluwalia analyzed blood and other samples from people who had suspiciously died, sent to her from pathologists and police around the UK.

“Of 187 tests she found 71% showed high traces of the chemical, indicating that at least 133 people may have died as a result of ingesting it. ‘Something needs to be done’, Prof Ahluwalia said.

‘With what it’s being used for, there has to be a full investigation of the issues. It has to be regulated so that its use is for its intended purposes’.”

After Chef Kenneth Law was arrested in Canada, greater awareness about this deadly commerce arose, and Law has been charged with 14 counts of murder and of aiding suicide.

“He is thought to have sold the chemical more than 1,200 times to buyers in 40 countries around the world and is linked to at least 93 deaths in the UK.”

The BBC investigation found that Zakutenko has been selling the same chemical since at least November 2020.

UK government supports offshore wind auction with $1bn

The UK government has announced over £1bn ($1.27bn) in support of the upcoming renewables tender, with the largest slice of the cake – some £800m or around $1bn – going to offshore wind.

Developers are being offered £800 million for the upcoming contract for difference (CfD) Allocation Round 6 (AR6) to prevent the previous round’s disaster of zero bids for offshore wind firms.

The cash should go to offshore wind projects delivered from 2027. The rest of the money will go to schemes including solar farms, floating offshore wind, and wave power.

The government’s cash injection should secure a fixed price offshore wind developers can charge for each megawatt-hour (MWh) of power they generate. Before this, the UK raised the ceiling for what companies could charge per MWh due to inflation raising the price of renewable energy which was for years getting cheaper.

Namely, the former maximum strike prices of £44 per MWh for offshore wind with fixed-bottom foundations and £116 per MWh for floating offshore wind in the previous round attracted no investors. Now, the maximum price available for offshore wind with fixed-bottom foundations was raised by 66% – from £44 per MWh to £73 per MWh. The maximum price for floating offshore wind projects went up 52% – from £116 per MWh to £176 per MWh.

The cost of the support will come out of energy bills rather than from taxation but if the electricity price rises above the fixed price, the wind power will be charged with money being returned to consumers.

Although this is seen as a positive move by the government, some experts still believe that the UK faces a lot of issues if it were to meet its 2030 target for 50GW of offshore wind and that it would most likely take even more money and government subsidies for that to happen.

Barack Obama Calls at Downing Street for Mystery Meeting

Former U.S. President Barack Obama called in at the British Prime Minister’s official residence on Monday, but the office is keeping tight-lipped about the purpose of the one-hour meeting.

Barack Obama surprised when he turned up at Rishi Sunak’s front door on Monday, going inside the historic Downing Street residence for an hour and meeting with the Prime Minister. Former President Obama walked up to the famous black door alone but later emerged alongside the U.S. Ambassador to London Jane Hartley.

While Obama and Sunak clearly had enough to be talking about, the reason for the visit and what was discussed was not immediately disclosed, the mystery talk being described by an official to British government-adjacent newspaper The Daily Telegraph as “informal” and private. The Times notes shortly before Obama entered Downing Street, the British finance minister also arrived at the Prime Minister’s official office and residence by the front door. That arrival may be seen as a pointed statement given it is thought to be possible to get to the Prime Minister’s office from the Chancellor’s through internal passageways without going onto the street to be seen by the press.

Barack Obama’s visits to Downing Street may not have the happiest associations for some: his meetings there in 2016 ended in him telling the British people not to vote for Brexit, and if they did the country would go “to the back of the queue” for a trade deal with the U.S., which was seen as a potential benefit of leaving the European Union. This hectoring position, of telling sovereign people how to vote was not perceived to have been well received at the time, and the UK subsequently voted against Obama’s wishes.

While President Obama was out of the White House shortly after, the threat was made actual by eventual successor Joe Biden, who has stalled on trade with the UK since, leaving the country seeking deals with individual states instead.
