Speculation is building about the possibility of the Supreme Court delivering a favorable ruling to former President Trump as he claims immunity from prosecution.

Even the current conservative-majority court would balk at finding that all presidents have unconstrained immunity, most experts believe.

But some kind of caveat-laden ruling that tosses the arguments about Trump’s legal exposure back to lower courts remains a strong possibility.

That scenario is enough to alarm many liberals.

Eric Holder, who served as attorney general in the Obama administration, sounded a warning during a recent interview with Nicolle Wallace of MSNBC. Holder alluded to the prospect of the justices ruling that a president can be prosecuted for private acts but not for “official” acts undertaken in the course of his duties.

In Trump’s case, this pertains to alleged offenses in his attempt to overturn the 2020 election. A mixed ruling would mean lower courts would be asked to adjudicate which of Trump’s actions fit into either official or nonofficial category.

In practical terms, such a process would almost surely extend the case beyond November’s election. If Trump wins the election, he could simply instruct the Justice Department to abandon its prosecution of him — a move that would elicit howls of protest.

Holder, during his MSNBC appearance, characterized the possibility of a ruling like this as an argument that “a president can violate the American criminal law, if he or she is doing something in their official capacity.”

The former attorney general contended that such a finding would be “an absurd and dangerous conclusion.”

But, he added, “I’m worried, given the length of time that it has taken for the Supreme Court to decide this case, that something along those lines might come out of the Supreme Court.”

The delay in the Supreme Court delivering its ruling on the Trump matter is not so surprising.

The court typically reserves its most important rulings for the end of its term. In addition, even though the justices like to claim to be above petty political concerns, they might nonetheless be loath to weigh in before Thursday night’s presidential debate.

A ruling Wednesday or Thursday would cause much of that debate to be centered on the Court’s ruling — which would further accelerate the process of politicizing the court.

When oral arguments took place in April, several of the court’s six conservative justices seemed to suggest they could winnow out official from nonofficial acts taken by a president, with the latter prosecutable and the former not.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh, for instance, suggested that unless such a distinction were to be made, former President Obama could face prosecution for some U.S. drone strikes overseas during his tenure.

US Admits Allies In Syria Using Child Soldiers

The State Department has acknowledged that America’s top partner in Syria, the Kurdish-led “Syrian Democratic Forces” (SDF), is still using underage fighters after more than 10 years of similar allegations. The Pentagon continues to work closely with the group regardless, as US troops illegally occupy large swaths of territory in northeastern Syria.

Published Tuesday, the department’s 2024 Trafficking in Persons Report highlighted a number of armed factions employing child soldiers in Syria, among them notorious terrorist outfits like ISIS and al-Qaeda as well as more US-friendly groups.

“The recruitment or use of children in combat and support roles in Syria remains common, and since the beginning of 2018 international observers reported continued incidents of recruitment and use by armed groups,” the report said.

Those include several Kurdish militias, such as the People’s Protection Units (YPG), an affiliated all-female brigade known as the YPJ, as well as the US-backed and armed SDF. The latter org is an umbrella group containing several others, including the YPG, and has long served as Washington’s main proxy force in Syria.

Another related Kurdish faction, the Revolutionary Youth Movement, was said to have tricked minors into joining up using “fraudulent announcements for educational courses in northeast Syria.”

Although the State Department said the SDF was implementing a 2019 UN-mandated “action plan” to end the practice, it noted reports that “SDF-affiliated armed groups recruited and used children in 2022 and 2023.”

Allegations of child trafficking and military recruitment have dogged the YPG for more than a decade, with rights groups reporting cases as far back as 2013. While YPG leadership claims to have ordered an end to the practice that year, the problem has only worsened since.

In 2020, the United Nations found the YPG, “under the umbrella of the Syrian Democratic Forces,” was the top recruiter of child fighters in Syria with 283 documented cases the prior year – even beating out the local al-Qaeda affiliate. While the UN later acknowledged SDF efforts to crack down on the use of underage fighters, it still recorded dozens of cases in April 2021.

Despite the official admission in the new State Department review, the US military continues a close partnership with the SDF and, by extension, the YPG. On Tuesday, the Pentagon deployed 40 vehicles and other hardware to reinforce a base in northwestern Syria, where US troops are embedded with Kurdish fighters. That move followed a similar deployment to Hasakah reported last April.

American forces have illegally occupied Syria for years despite repeated objections from the government in Damascus. While Washington insists the presence is necessary to ensure the lasting defeat of the Islamic State, US troops continue to hold significant energy resources in the oil-rich northeast, effectively controlling one-third of the country with the help of its Kurdish allies.

To get TECHNICAL on the SCOTUS ruling today on the Missouri v Biden temporary injunction sought by the plaintiffs:

The plaintiffs in Missouri v Biden - the state AG's of Missouri and Louisiana - asked the SCOTUS to grant them a TEMPORARY INJUNCTION that forbid Big Tech companies [X, FB, Youtube, Instagram, etc] from censoring their users using cutout NGO's.

This temporary injunction would stop Big Tech & Big Gov't from continuing to coordinate behind the scenes as the case moves forward, is argued, and then the SCOTUS issues its ruling.

Which hasn't happened yet.

Neither side has presented its case yet.

All that's been argued before SCOTUS thus far is the request from the plaintiffs for a temp injunction that would stop the defendants from continuing their censorious behavior while the case is moving through the courts.

Today, SCOTUS ruled that the plaintiffs DO NOT HAVE STANDING to request this temporary injunction, and have denied it.

So until the case itself is heard, and the SCOTUS issues its ruling - probably in the next term - Big Tech and Big Gov't can continue to use NGO's to target speech on social media.

However, I would point that many of these NGO's are already disbanding, such as Stanford Internet Observatory, because they know what's coming.

Looks like the SCOTUS added opinion (non-argument) days to their calendar (tomorrow and Friday).

Last week it showed today as the final opinion day of the session and nothing was on the calendar after that.

So…

Seems possible they will publish that leaked abortion opinion on Thursday and then the immunity opinion or action (I expect they'll be kicking it down to a lower court for a hearing on official acts) on Friday- which would be the day after the debate. Ofc it could be the other way around or not at all and they don’t say anything about immunity until the Fall.

Gotta wonder if the debate is influencing SCOTUS’s timing on when they act regarding the immunity issue.

And if the debate does influence the timing, then you’d assume future debates, the conventions, and election are also influencing the timing.

Special Operations Association of America (SOAA) represents thousands of Army Rangers and Green Berets, Navy SEALs, Marine Raiders, Air Force Air Commandos, and other special operators who have fought and currently serve on behalf of our nation. We are gravely concerned by the current heightened risk of terrorist attacks against targets inside the United States and both US and allied interests abroad. Our complete withdrawal from Afghanistan, without a viable stay-behind or over-the-horizon counterterrorism and intelligence capability to suppress threats, has created a vacuum in the region in which anti-American terrorist groups, such as al-Qaeda and the Islamic State, are flourishing once again.

The United States has lost significant intelligence collection capabilities in the region, leaving federal authorities blind and deaf to emerging threats emanating from the region. The creation of new and reestablishment of previous terrorist training camps within Afghanistan has led to successful, deadly attacks by the Islamic State's regional branch against targets in Iran and Russia and elsewhere, providing further credence to the notion that the US is at risk. This heightened risk has been verified by multiple departments and agencies of the federal government, mainstream journalists and publications, former senior officials from both parties, and from former allies with whom we maintain communication.

This risk is compounded by developments in the Middle East and in the porous, unsecured southern border through which we have seen numerous instances of individuals on terrorist watchlists and others from adversarial countries attempt to enter the US — and those are the ones we know about only because they were detected. We do not know how many other threats are already currently inside the US.

At the same time, the US has continued to send the Taliban millions of dollars for "counterterrorism assistance," which has proved to be only marginally successful due to a lack of partners on the ground in Afghanistan. Millions more in aid is being repurposed by the Taliban to bolster their own operations.

As former White House and CIA Intelligence Agency Mike Morell recently wrote, "The Terrorism warning lights are blinking red again — echoes of the run-up to 9/11."

Time is running out, and urgent executive action is needed to address this ever-increasing threat to US national security, our families, our allies, and our homeland.

BREAKING: Albany police officials declined to notify the public last month about abductions and rǎpe of a 15-year-old girl by a Turkish illegal alien.

Sakir Akkan, a 21 year-old Turkish migrant who was arrested seven months ago by U.S. Border Patrol agents in San Diego after he crossed the southern border illegally into the United States but was released after.

The 15 year-old victim told police that she left a residential group home without authorization and while walking Akkan, whom she was later able to identify from a photo lineup, drove up to her in a car, got out and threatened to hit her with the metal pipe if she didn't follow his orders to get in the back seat. Then, Akkan drove her to secluded area where he râpe her.

The suspect was taken into custody on June 18 and charged with first-degree rapè.
