Logistics Experts: COVID-19 Marks End Of Globalization, Makes National Supply Chains Critical Infrastructure

Logistics experts say that the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic will mark the end of globalization, paving the way for localized supply chains to be fundamental once more. The industry survey, conducted by Bollore Logistics and Transport Intelligence, noted that 34 percent of the respondents agreed that the COVID-19 pandemic will signal the end of global supply chains, and local supply chains will be of utmost importance again. Five percent of the survey’s respondents expressed strong agreement. On the other hand, 27 percent disagreed with the statement and six percent expressed strong disagreement.

“Despite the relatively even spread of results, it is remarkable that as many as 34 percent of respondents agree that the COVID-19 crisis will lead to the end of globalization,” the authors of the report wrote.

In addition, the report mentioned that the figures were “particularly striking,” as the respondents were professionals who had “witnessed the benefits of globalization first-hand.”

The firm interviewed 422 logistics professionals from Europe, Asia Pacific and North America between July and August 2020. More than half of the respondents represented retail and manufacturing shippers that use air and sea forwarding services, while freight forwarders made up almost a fourth of the respondents.

Bolloré’s report described the pandemic as a once-in-a-generation disruption that impacted a global freight forwarding market already facing significant challenges, including the U.S.-China trade war and moves towards protectionism. However, the respondents agreeing with COVID-19’s effects on the logistics sector represented a significant change from the previous consensus.

When asked how the crisis would affect their supply chain strategy over the medium term, 37 percent of respondents said it would have a significant impact, 36 percent answered it would be moderate and 25 percent mentioned a slight effect. Only two percent believed the crisis would have no effects on their supply chain strategies.

LA reports 300 homicides for the first time in a DECADE as cops blame the coronavirus lockdown and cuts to the police

The city of Los Angeles has recorded its 300th homicide this year equalling a total last reached in 2009.

Despite various lockdowns due to the coronavirus pandemic, there has been a 32% increase in shootings.

After a brief lull in killings that police attributed in part to lockdowns associated with the COVID-19 pandemic earlier in the year, homicides and shootings began to rise again and then spiked this summer.

Police Chief Michel Moore has said that he believes some of the increased crime is due to problems related to the pandemic, such as economic struggles and virus-related restrictions on services and interventions.

This year's spike in violence mirrors that seen in other cities across the country including Houston, Chicago and New York.

Last year, the city recorded 253 homicides, with 260 in 2018.

Four shootings that took place overnight Saturday into Sunday nudged the city over the 300-death mark for the first time in a decade.

The victims were 17-year-old boy riding a bike, a 50-year-old homeless man, a 20-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman.

'The reality is there are 300,' Los Angeles Police Department Captain Stacy Spell said to the LA Times. 'It's tragic.'

The majority of the violence was in South L.A. and Central L.A.

In the Los Angeles Police Department's South Bureau, which covers South L.A., homicides are up by 50% from last year.

In addition to homicides, nonfatal shootings are also up.

As of October, the number of victims who had been shot was up more than 21% compared with the same time last year, according to the latest set of data from the LAPD.

Moore called the pace of violence in 2020 a 'terrible loss' and an 'erosion' of progress that had been made reducing gun violence in the city in recent years.

He said he believed that economic struggles have increased across the city's population.

The threat of the virus has undercut efforts to provide services and interventions for individuals who have been victims of shootings and may be vulnerable to becoming perpetrators of retaliatory violence.

Moore also said more people seem to be carrying guns around.

Adding to the problem, the increase in violence comes as the LAPD works to reorganize after a $150-million budget cut that forced it to begin reducing its ranks of sworn officers by several hundred.

Despite the figures being the highest in more than ten years, the city is still some way off the shocking statistics on the 1980s and 90s when some years experienced more than 1,000 killings.

US Pullout in Afghanistan Will Empower the Taliban, HR McMaster Says

The new Pentagon plan for accelerating the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan will speed a Taliban takeover and renew risks of major terror attacks on the U.S. homeland, retired Army Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster said Sunday.

"I think it's abhorrent what we're doing, and I hope that a Biden administration will reassess based, again, on what's in it for us," McMaster, who also served as national security adviser to President Donald Trump, said on CBS' "Face The Nation" program.

The plan to reduce the number of U.S. troops in Afghanistan from 4,500 to 2,500 by Jan. 15 is in line with Trump's commitment to end America's "forever," but McMaster said conditions on the ground should dictate the pace.

"If the Taliban establishes control of large parts of Afghanistan, gives safe haven and support base to terrorist organizations who want to commit mass murder against us on the scale of 9/11, we will be far less safe and vulnerable to these groups," he said. "And I think what happened is the prioritization of withdrawal over our interests led to us actually empowering the Taliban."

President-elect Joe Biden has said that he is committed to ending the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan in his first term, but has avoided giving a timeline.

"Any residual U.S. military presence [in Afghanistan] would be focused only on counter-terrorism operations and supporting local partners," he said in response to a September survey by the Military Officers Association of America. "For the time being, we will also likely need to maintain a residual presence in Iraq and Syria, with our coalition partners, to prevent a re-emergence of ISIS."

McMaster spoke a day after Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met in Doha, Qatar, with Taliban representatives in an effort to break the deadlock in peace negotiations with the Kabul government.

In a Twitter post following the meeting Saturday, Pompeo said, "I commend both sides for continuing to negotiate and for the progress they have made. I encourage expedited discussions on a political road map and a permanent and comprehensive cease-fire."

The Pompeo meeting began hours after a rocket attack in Kabul that killed at least eight and wounded more than 20, according to Afghanistan's Tolo news agency. An offshoot of the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, according to the Site Intelligence Group, which monitors ISIS statements.

The attack was the latest incident in escalating violence; the U.S. has launched airstrikes in recent weeks to beat back Taliban offensives against Kandahar and the provincial capital of Lashkar Gah in southwestern Helmand province.

President Trump didn’t “disown” Sydney Powell and it wasn’t a wild statement from his campaign that distanced Powell, and you can disregard any RINO’s who say otherwise. The president’s campaign and legal team have specific rules to meet regarding funding.

There’s also the question of liability, regarding Powell’s press conferences: if she makes accusations against Dominion (which she has already has, repeatedly) as a member of the Trump campaign, Dominion could sue the Trump campaign for defamation. Would they win? NO. But that would give the Trump campaign another obstacle, and another judge, and they’re already working under a tight deadline.

Further there are political implications, as Powell has accused Trump’s supposed ally, Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia, of getting kickbacks from Dominion Voting Systems in a pay-for-play scheme. Kemp, like Nancy Pelosi, has a former Chief of Staff lobbying for Dominion; unlike Pelosi, however, he is a Republican, and there will be other Republicans implicated in Georgia (which Powell says “is probably going to be the first state I’m blowing up”), and President Trump might not want to start a fight with his own party in the middle of all of this.

He likely will also want to avoid accusations that he is prosecuting his political opponents.

So it’s perfectly sensible for the Trump Campaign to “officially” distance themselves from Powell right now, and she’s said she agrees with it. It also bears little relationship to the outcome of the election or any of the lawsuits regarding election fraud.

On Saturday, Jordan Sekulow, son of Trump’s longtime attorney Jay, made a similar statement to Powell’s regarding the Georgia election.

Powell’s censored tweet that earned her a 12-hour ban linked this article from the Bannon- and Giuliani-associated Chinese dissident who leaked what were likely blackmail pictures from Hunter Biden’s laptop last month. Saudi denies MBS meeting with Israel's Netanyahu

Saudi today denied reports that Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the kingdom last night.

Israel Army radio had claimed Netanyahu made a secret trip to Saudi Arabia yesterday to meet Bin Salman and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Neom on the Red Sea coast.

However, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud took to Twitter today to deny the news, and said that the meeting "was only between Saudi and American officials".

I have seen press reports about a purported meeting between HRH the Crown Prince and Israeli officials during the recent visit by @SecPompeo. No such meeting occurred. The only officials present were American and Saudi.

We have let two pieces of paper, Birth Certificates and Marriage Licences destroy the American Society. Those two documents have been the Keys of Destruction of the Family. The State has no business and jurisdiction over what is that of God Almighty under Common Law.

GOP senator says Biden's vote lead 'has not changed,' urges country to 'move forward'

Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio) on Monday said there is no proof of widespread voter fraud that could change President-elect Joe Biden’s lead in the vote counts of key battleground states and urged the nation to “resolve any outstanding questions and move forward.”

Portman, who is poised to become the next chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, also called on the General Services Administration to release funds to the Biden transition team to help prepare for Biden’s inauguration in January.

“Based on all the information currently available, neither the final lawful vote counts nor the recounts have led to a different outcome in any state. In other words, the initial determination showing Joe Biden with enough electoral votes to win has not changed,” Portman wrote in an op-ed published Monday in the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Portman wrote that he believes “there is no more sacred constitutional process in our great democracy than the orderly transfer of power after a presidential election.”

“It is now time to expeditiously resolve any outstanding questions and move forward,” he wrote.

Portman’s exhortation for President Trump and the rest of the nation to accept the results of the 2020 election follows a similar statement delivered by Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) over the weekend.

Toomey on Saturday called on Trump to “accept the outcome of the election and facilitate the presidential transition process.”

He issued his statement after Matthew Brann, a federal judge for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, dismissed a Trump campaign lawsuit in a scathing opinion that scolded Trump’s legal team for making “strained legal arguments without merit.”

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, one of Trump’s closest allies, on Sunday called the conduct of Trump’s legal team “a national embarrassment.”

“Elections have consequences, and we cannot continue to act as if something happened here that didn’t happen,” he said.

Portman in his statement Monday noted that Trump’s campaign has been waging legal challenges in key states for about three weeks.

He noted that the “vast majority of these lawsuits have been resolved and most of the remaining ones are expected to be resolved in the next couple of weeks.”

MOSCOW, November 23. /TASS/. Moscow’s Basmanny Court has placed Head of the Interior Ministry Department for the Kizlyar District of Dagestan Police Colonel Gazi Isayev into custody in the 2010 Moscow subway terror attack criminal case, the court’s press office told TASS on Monday.

"The investigator’s request has been granted. Custody until January 4, 2021 has been chosen for Isayev," the press office said.

As part of the criminal probe into the terror attacks carried out at the Lubyanka and Park Kultury (Park of Culture) stations of the Moscow subway, the Investigative Committee’s Main Investigation Department jointly with the Federal Security Service of Russia has detained Chief of the Russian Interior Ministry Department for the Kizlyar District, Police Colonel Gazi Isayev. He is charged with committing crimes stipulated by Part 3 of Article 210, Part 3 of Article 209 and Part 3 of Article 205 of Russia’s Criminal Code (participation in a criminal community, banditry and a terror act), Investigative Committee Spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko said earlier on Monday.

As the investigators say, Isayev was a member of the Imarat Kavkaz criminal community (outlawed in Russia). In 2009-2010, using his official position, he provided information to the ringleaders of the criminal community on the activity of the Kizlyar District Interior Department and on special operations against illegal armed formations.

Also, he repeatedly personally transported the ringleaders of the criminal community’s structural units across the territory of the Republic of Dagestan and personally delivered a female suicide bomber with an explosive fastened to her to the bus terminal in the area of Kizlyar in his car for her to depart for Moscow for committing a terror attack.
