Federal Judge Orders DOJ to Release Less-Redacted Version of Mueller Report

A federal judge has ordered the Justice Department (DOJ) to publish a less-redacted version of former special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Judge Reggie Walton of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia said on Wednesday that the department had failed to properly demonstrate the redacted information could be protected by a Freedom of Information Act exemption called the deliberative process privilege.

US Army seeks market research for radios to integrate with augmented reality

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Army wants to know if there are additional radio vendors that can compete on an integration effort involving the service’s Integrated Visual Augmentation System, or IVAS.

According to a request for information posted last week, the Army’s Program Executive Office Command, Control, Communications-Tactical is seeking single-channel data radios that can “support and integrate” with IVAS. The IVAS program, led by the Soldier Lethality Cross-Functional Team, provides soldiers with artificial intelligence-enhanced goggles that assist with navigation, targeting, and advanced night and thermal vision.

The current vendors are Silvus and Domo Tactical Communications. The RFI states that the Army will need about 100,000 radios, with procurement starting in the first quarter of fiscal 2022 and delivered to soldiers beginning in June 2022. Paul Mehney, communications director for PEO C3T, said there will be multiple awards.

“We believe that the technology has matured in the commercial space and we believe that there’s additional vendors that can compete. We’ve also, through the soldier touchpoints, learned about how these radios are going to be potentially used and in what configuration they’ll be used,” Mehney told C4ISRNET.

“Initially these radios were intended only to be at the squad level to form a squad network. Now we believe that we can bring that up to the platoon level because the waveforms and the radios themselves have matured in the commercial sector to allow us to bring more nodes into the network, and we may even take a look at bringing them up to the company level as well.”

Whistleblower Claims Chinese Communists Pay Vatican $2 Billion in Bribes

ROME — Exiled Chinese dissident Guo Wengui alleged this weekend the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) “allocates $2 billion a year” to pay off the Vatican for its silence concerning Chinese atrocities.

In a June 20th interview on The War Room, Mr. Guo said the CCP earmarks massive sums each year to win the allegiance of foreign countries including the Vatican, Italy, and Australia. Among them, the Vatican receives up to 2 billion dollars from the Chinese Communist Party every year, he said.

ECB applies for 'digital euro' trademark amid feasibility study

The European Central Bank has applied to trademark the term “digital euro” as officials prepare to release an assessment of the benefits and drawbacks of creating a digital version of the currency.

The application was filed on Sept. 22 by the ECB’s legal representatives Bock Legal, according to the website of the European Union Intellectual Property Office. An ECB spokesman confirmed the filing.

Central banks across the world have been experimenting with digital versions of their currencies, with the idea of safely adapting to digitizing economies. ECB policy makers have recently stressed the need to stay on top of global changes in payments – both due to evolving technology and an increase in protectionism.

A team of experts from across euro-area central banks is due to publish an assessment soon. ECB President Christine Lagarde has repeatedly talked about the topic, and said in an address to the European Parliament last week that a public consultation will be launched within days.

“The Eurosystem has so far not made a decision on whether to introduce a digital euro. But, like many other central banks around the world, we are exploring the benefits, risks and operational challenges of doing so,” she said in a speech last month. “We have a duty to play an active role in balancing the risks and benefits of innovation in payments, so that money continues to serve Europeans well.”

Double the firepower: MQ-9 tests flying with eight Hellfire missiles

The Air Force last month conducted the first flight of an MQ-9A Reaper that had been configured to carry eight AGM-114 Hellfire missiles — twice the number the drone normally carries.

The 556th Test and Evaluation Squadron at Creech Air Force Base in Nevada conducted the flight test on Sept. 10, the Air Force said in a Wednesday release.

A software upgrade expected to be rolled out to MQ-9s by the end of the calendar year made the expanded Hellfire capacity possible, the Air Force said. In the past, Reapers could carry no more than four Hellfires, two on the outboard station of each wing.

But with the upgrade, stations that were previously used for fuel tanks or 500-pound bombs can be used for Hellfires.

Master Sgt. Melvin French, the program’s test system configuration manager, said in the release that the hardware and launchers that now can be used to carry Hellfires are the same as the original stations used.

“Aside from the extra hardware required to be on-hand, no other changes are required to support this new capability and added lethality,” French said in the release. "The Reaper retains its flexibility to fly 500-pound bombs on any of these stations, instead of the AGM‑114s, when mission requirements dictate.”

"Hong Kong Is China" - NYT Gives Communist Party "Free PR" With Op-Ed By Pro-Beijing Lawmaker

Publishing an editorial by a sitting US Senator is enough to force the top editor of the NYT's Opinion section to quit their jobs in disgrace, after the paper's "woke" reporting staff - who can't possibly fathom why trust in their "reporting" has eroded to such a profound degree - rebelled, and condemned the decision to publish the views of Sen. Tom Cotton a bridge too far. One reporter even claimed that the decision to publish the editorial put the lives of black reporters in danger. Asked to explain how, the reporter offered some nonsense about systemic racism.

The NYT's opinion page has published editorials penned by Hitler during the run-up to WWII, and by members of the Taliban and Al Qaeda. It's part of the Gray Lady's commitment to bring the views of all pertinent people and political groups to the NYT's readers without editorial slant. It's an important opportunity for these influential parties to express themselves in their own words. Adding a delicious irony to the scandal, it was revealed after James Bennett quit the NYT that he and his editors actually solicited Sen. Cotton to write the editorial.

Now, in the latest example of how the NYT's sanctimonious, "woke" moralizing only applies to the domestic political enemies of its Democratic readers and supporters, the NYT has published an editorial from a member of Hong Kong's executive council arguing that - like it or not - Hong Kong belongs to Beijing.

Of course, millions of Hong Kongers marched against Beijing's crackdown, and in the months since, Beijing has forced through a National Security law essentially robbing the city-state - once seen as the gateway to the mainland - of the political freedoms guaranteed by the "Basic Law", the Constitution created by the British, which is legally the law of the land in Hong Kong until 2047, when China assumes complete control of the territory.

In the editorial, Regina Ip, a pro-Beijing legislator on the city's executive council, argued that Hong Kongers were craving stability when Beijing stepped in to restore calm.

At the end of the editorial, the author offers Hong Kong a kind of compromise: accepting its new status as "the freest and most international city" in China. To quote the comedian John Mulaney, that's like being the smartest horse.

No amount of outcry, condemnation or sanctions over the Chinese government’s purported encroachment in Hong Kong’s affairs will alter the fact that Hong Kong is part of China and that its destiny is intertwined with the mainland’s.

Hong Kong has been rocked by a series of crises after the eruption of protests last year over a proposed bill (long since withdrawn) that would have allowed the extradition of some suspects in criminal cases to mainland China.

Hong Kongers who wanted the city promptly to return to peace thought the authorities’ handling of the situation, which dragged on for months and grew more and more violent, was incompetent. For other locals, many outsiders and apparently much of the global media, a people’s legitimate quest for more democracy was being suppressed.

Something had to be done, and the Chinese authorities did it.

Last night my world and my entire family's world almost changed forever. I almost shot an "unarmed black man."

I am going to share like I have never before. I am going to do so because so many people truly have no idea. This story is not an anomaly and happens across this country day in and day out. All I ask is that you pause and read what it is truly like out here in the real world. Not how the media spins it or some keyboard warrior tweets about a world they do not live in and know nothing about.

Last night my world and my entire family's world almost changed forever. I almost shot an "unarmed black man." My partner got on the radio and told us a shooting was happening right in front of her very eyes. Shot after shot rang out in our community we have sworn to protect. 17 shots in all were fired and now people were fleeing everywhere. My partners all went towards the gun shots, no race was said, no thought of our own safety was contemplated. We went because that is what we are called to do. We must help our community no matter who is in danger and no matter the risk. My partners found two of the suspects, and I rushed to help them as they are yelling they are not complying and now they are fighting. Where are the guns used? Do they have them? Are they going to try and kill my partners? All thoughts as I pull up and see my partners on the ground fighting with one male, a black man. Another black man is near them and turns to run as i approach. My partners yell "stop him."

I yell for him to stop and he turns and runs. Where is the gun? Does he still have it? Is he going to shoot me? My partners? Is he and innocent person just out for a walk? I give chase, he continues to run around a corner. Is he going to ambush me when I turn the corner? Where is the gun? My partners are yelling for more officers. The male keeps running until I and my partner gain ground on him and he stops. "Get your hands in the air!" He does not. "Get on the ground!" He does not. Where is the gun?!!!!! He turns his back hiding his hands from us, still not listening to commands. Where is the gun?!!!! I level my pistol at him. I put my finger on the trigger. Is this it? Is he going to shoot us? Am i going to have to shoot this man to save myself and others??? Will my wife wake up a widow, will my children no longer have their father? Is our community going to change forever because of me? Will everything burn only because we want to help? Because we want to live and not die? Because we don't want to see innocent people in our community die. All of this in about 1/2 a second… My partner attempts to tackle him and now we fight because he is still not listening. I almost shot an "unarmed black man." Why was he unarmed? Because (unknown to me at the time) when he ran and turned the corner in front of me, he threw the stolen gun he was carrying in the bushes.

When the dust settled officers had cuts and bruises and two multi convicted felons went to jail unharmed, but it was only 1/16 of a squeeze from changing our world forever. All of this while you slept comfortably in your homes, safe from the wolves who roam our streets. You will not hear this story on the news. No one will call national attention to it. No one will say anything about this night. We simply just dust ourselves off, make sure each of us is ok and go on to the next call. This is what happens all across this country more often than you could ever imagine, but we are racist, we have to change. There must be accountability. Police must be defunded. Each and every day we dust each other off, make sure we are ok and go out into our communities and do the right thing. As the media, professional athletes, politicians, and social media warriors bash us day in and day out. Our promise to you as officers each day is that we will dust each other off, make sure we are ok, and go out into our community and die trying to make sure you are safe while you sleep in peace at night. I almost shot an "unarmed black man" last night. I challenge anyone to get out of your comfort zone and ride with us. Take a day in our shoes and see what it is really like. The truth, the unedited truth. We ask for nothing in return other than allowing the truth to come out. Wait for the facts. Stop destroying us before we even have a chance! Stop pushing the false narrative. Stand with us, help us! We are not heroes, we are men and women who just want to do the right thing.

U.S. repatriates captured Americans in Syria criminally charged with supporting ISIS

The U.S. repatriated four Americans charged with supporting ISIS in September, the last of a group of American ISIS supporters who were being held by U.S. allies, the Syrian Democratic Forces.

The move brings the total number of U.S. citizens charged with terror-related offenses for their support of ISIS and repatriated from Iraq and Syria to the U.S. to 10, the Justice Department announced Thursday.

American authorities lauded their success in regaining custody of the supporters as a warning to those who may attempt to travel and join ISIS.

"The United States continues to lead by example by working with the Syrian Democratic Forces to repatriate American citizens accused of supporting ISIS," said Amb. Nathan Sales, State Department coordinator for counterterrorism. "We call on other nations, particularly in Western Europe, to take responsibility for their citizens."

The recently repatriated men include Emraan Ali and his son, Jihad Ali, who traveled with their family to Syria in March 2015 to join ISIS, according to the DOJ. The two surrendered to the Syrian Democratic Forces, a largely Kurdish militia, in March 2019, during the last sustained ISIS battles to maintain territory in Syria.

Hillary Clinton developing new drama, 'The Woman's Hour,' for CW

Hillary Clinton has her eyes on the small screen once again.

The former first lady and secretary of state is developing a new anthology drama for CW, "The Woman's Hour." The prospective first season is based on Elaine Weiss' best-selling 2018 nonfiction book "The Woman's Hour: The Great Fight to Win the Vote," and will focus on the fight to ratify the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote and was signed into law in 1920.

"Each season of 'The Woman's Hour' will celebrate those who changed history and have strong contemporary reverberations, appealing to today’s rising tide of young, politically active audiences," a press release states.

Clinton and Weiss will executive produce along with Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey of Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment, and the show will be overseen by writer/producer Angelina Burnett ("Halt and Catch Fire").

"Rights for the book were optioned by Amblin Television in 2018, after Clinton brought the project to long-time supporter and Amblin Chairman Steven Spielberg," the release says. "Clinton first discovered the book after Weiss made it her mission to get the novel to the former Secretary of State, after realizing the striking parallels between the women’s suffrage movement and the 2016 presidential election between Clinton and Donald Trump."

Ahead of the election, growing numbers of US Jews consider leaving

Heather Segal says she hears the same fears from one Jewish American after another.

By 11:42 a.m. on the morning after Donald Trump refused to condemn white supremacists during the presidential debate, Heather Segal had received four inquiries from Americans interested in moving to Canada. Two of them were Jewish.

Segal, an immigration lawyer in Toronto, knows there’s always a spike in inquiries during US election years. But in her 25 years of experience, it’s never been as big as it is now.

In 2016, she said, she received a couple dozen inquiries, total, from Americans looking to move to Canada. This year, she gets six or seven inquiries every day. And most of them, she said, are from Jews.

“In my life, I have never seen what I’m seeing,” said Segal, who is herself Jewish. She said she hears the same fears from one Jewish American after another.

“What they echo to me: ‘We’ve seen this before,'” Segal said. “‘I’m not going to get stuck. I’m not going to get caught. We know how this goes. There’s going to be a civil war. It’s going to be the end of democracy. I’m very concerned for our future. I don’t want to wait and see what happens. My grandparents left Poland in World War II.'”

She added, “Whatever it is, honestly, it gives me pause. What do I hear? ‘I never thought that I would be looking for this. I’m well established in the United States. My family is here, my business is here. This is not something I ever thought would happen or that I even considered.’ That line is not one person saying it. I hear it several times a day.”

Americans vowing to move to Canada after the presidential election is almost a cliche. Among observant Jews, the same might be said of moving to Israel — where most Jews get automatic citizenship — if the wrong person takes office or if conditions change in the United States.

This year feels different, say immigration lawyers and others who work in the small industry of Jews permanently crossing borders. Much of the drive to leave has to do with the prospect of President Trump winning reelection, potentially after a chaotic post-election period in which he or others dispute the results of the vote. Schumer PAC Backs Former Lobbyist by Claiming Lindsey Graham Is Beholden to Special Interests

Jaime Harrison represented six major pharmaceutical companies

A super PAC tied to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) is attacking Republican senator Lindsey Graham for being beholden to special interests—even though Graham's Democratic opponent, Jaime Harrison, spent years as a lobbyist for Big Pharma.

The Senate Majority PAC is pouring $6.5 million into a South Carolina ad blitz, signaling that national Democrats see the race between Graham and Harrison as competitive. The first ad, released Tuesday, claims Graham has "gone Washington" over special interests and the price of prescription drugs.

"You'll be seeing drug prices falling substantially in the not-too-distant future, and it's going to be beautiful," President Trump says at the start of the ad. "Not with Lindsey Graham in the Senate," the ad's narrator says, "because it's Graham who stands in the way. He's spent 25 years in Congress taking millions from special interests like big drug companies, then voted against lowering drug prices. If we want lower drug prices, we need to clean out the swamp. Lindsay Graham: gone Washington, gone bad."

The ad never references Harrison, who pushed the interests of major pharmaceutical companies for years as a D.C. lobbyist. While Harrison was working for the now-defunct Podesta Group, he directly represented pharma giants Amgen, Sanofi, Novo Nordisk, Genzyme, Merck, and Amylin Pharmaceuticals. His campaign did not respond to inquiries about his work with Big Pharma.

Harrison's eight-year span as a lobbyist proved lucrative to the Senate candidate. Prior to joining the Podesta Group in 2008, he reported no assets, with credit card and loan debts valued between $140,000 and $365,000. By the time Harrison had left the Podesta Group in 2016, he had amassed up to $3.45 million in assets.

National Democrats are now looking to South Carolina as an opportunity to flip a Republican-held Senate seat. The ad buy from the Senate Majority PAC is the group's first foray into the Palmetto State and includes a $1.5 million digital campaign and $5 million in television ads.

Belgium’s new justice minister has spoken of Jewish lobby

In February, when Justice Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne was the Mayor of Kortrijk he tweeted that the “Jewish lobby is working extra hours. After Aalst, now Washington."

Belgium’s newly sworn in center-left government has rattled the Jewish community because of its pro-Palestinian stance, its lack of emphasis on antisemitism and its appointment of a justice minister who has publicly spoken of the “Jewish lobby.”

On Thursday, Alexander De Croo was sworn in as prime minister, replacing Sophie Wilmes, who had been the head of a caretaker government for the last 16 months.

Wilmes, who was the first Belgian Jewish prime minister, will be the foreign minister.

The new justice minister will be Vincent Van Quickenborne of the Open Flemish Liberals and Democrats Party.

In February, when Van Quickenborne was the mayor of Kortrijk, he tweeted that the “Jewish lobby is working extra hours. After Aalst, now Washington.”

It was not the first time Van Quickenborne had raised eyebrows. In 2002, he traveled to Gaza and met with Hamas founder Sheikh Ahmed Ismail Hassan Yassin.

“I am a bit anxious because I have seen a number of appointments that have raised eyebrows, and in some cases rightly so,” said Yohan Benizri, president of the Belgian Federation of Jewish Organizations and vice president of the European Jewish Congress and the World Jewish Congress.

In the platform there was “no explicit mention of the fight against antisemitism” even though there is the ongoing issue of the Aalst carnival, he said, citing the annual carnival that has gained notoriety for its antisemitic costumes and floats.

The silence was striking when one takes into account the references in the platform to Israeli plans to annex portions of the West Bank, Benizri said. Religious freedom is also absent, he added.

Michael Freilich, a Jewish member of the Belgium Federal Parliament from the opposition New Flemish Alliance Party, also mentioned this platform.

The biggest threats to Europe and Belgium are from China and Russia, but those countries are not named in the platform while Israel is, he said.

Tokyo Stock Exchange Halts Trading For Entire Day Due To Technical Glitch

Japan’s huge stock market suffered an unprecedented shutdown on Thursday due to a technical glitch that caused the Tokyo Stock Exchange, or TSE, to lose an entire day of trading for the first time in history.

Regional bourses were also affected by the outage.

The disruption occurred as the Japanese government wants the TSE – the third largest exchange in the world by market cap – to help make Japan the region’s principal financial hub.

The outage also occurred on a day that traders expected especially high volumes because of the release of the Bank of Japan's Tankan survey, a closely monitored economic indicator.

The regional Nagoya Stock Exchange, Fukuoka Stock Exchange, and Sapporo Securities Exchanges – all of which use the TSE system to conduct trades – also suspended trading activity on Thursday. (The Osaka Exchange, which uses a different system and mostly trades derivatives and index futures, operated as usual.)

TSE currently comprises more than 3,700 listed companies and a total market capitalization of $6.1 trillion.

“As someone in charge of the market, I feel responsible,” TSE President Koichiro Miyahara said. “We have caused serious inconvenience to a lot of people, and I deeply apologize.”

The TSE said the problem was caused by "a hardware failure" and that a back-up device failed. The exchange said it will replace the defective hardware and expects normal trading to resume on Friday.

The TSE uses the “Arrowhead” stock trading system, which was developed by Fujitsu Ltd. Initially launched in 2010, Arrowhead was upgraded in 2015 and 2019. TSE said it will work with Fujitsu to fix the problem.

"There should be a backup system, so it's puzzling that trading would stop altogether," a portfolio manager told Nikkei Asian Review.

Three Jewish congressional members representing South Florida on Thursday ripped what one called President Trump's "dog whistle" to the Proud Boys and extremists during this week's presidential debate.

U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel, a Democrat from West Palm Beach, said Trump's nod to the Proud Boys — telling them to "stand back and stand by" — was a clear cut move to intimidate voters.

"There's no question the president is an instigator, no question," said Frankel. "Part of what he is trying to do is not just maybe instigate groups like the Proud Boys, but he is really trying to put fear into the hearts of voters … It's a dog whistle, 'Watch out. Don't go to vote because there's going to be something bad that's going to happen to you.'
