Bill and Hillary Clinton — a disgraced president who had an affair with a White House intern his daughters age and a two-time loser in presidential politics — weighed in on what to do with the vacancy left on the Supreme Court by the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

“The decision that Senator McConnell made back in 2016 in the midst of that presidential election, but at a much earlier time when Justice Scalia unexpectedly passed away, is what should be the standard now,” Hillary Clinton said on NBC’s “Meet The Press” Sunday. She added that Republicans should be “held to account” for the precedent they set then.

“But as you clearly heard, that is not what they are intending and it’s another blow to our institutions. Our institutions are being basically undermined by the lust for power, power for personal gain in the case of the president or power for institutional gain in the case of Mitch McConnell,” she said.

Bill Clinton, the president who nominated Ginsburg to the Supreme Court, also ripped Republicans for simply wanting to fill a vacant seat — especially with a contentious presidential election just more than 40 days away.

“Well it’s superficially hypocritical, isn’t it,” he said. “Mitch McConnell wouldn’t give President Obama’s nominee, Merrick Garland, a hearing 10 months before the presidential election. And now that meant that we went a long time with eight judges on the court… Both for Senator McConnell and President Trump their first value is power and they’re trying to jam the court with as many ideological judges as they can.”

US judge blocks Trump’s WeChat ban, halting removal of app from stores

A California judge on Sunday blocked the US Department of Commerce from enforcing President Donald Trump’s executive order that requires the Chinese messenger WeChat to be removed from app stores in the US.

The Trump administration says that WeChat is a national security threat, as it allegedly sends massive amounts of data to the Chinese government. The Commerce Department had ordered for the messenger to be removed from Apple and Google's app stores in the US.

However, hours before the ban was set to come into effect, US Magistrate Judge Laurel Beeler of the Northern California District Court issued an injunction on Sunday blocking the removal, saying that the move raised "serious questions" about free speech.

The lawsuit was brought by a group of WeChat users, who argued that there is no alternative app for Chinese Americans to use to communicate. They also claimed that, without updates from the Android and Apple app stores, WeChat would be essentially unusable.

"The United States has never shut down a major platform for communications, not even during war times,” a lawyer for the users said. “There are serious First Amendment problems with the WeChat ban, which targets the Chinese American community."

WeChat is not the only Chinese app to come into Trump’s crosshairs. The president also moved to ban TikTok, a hugely popular video sharing app. The TikTok ban was originally due to come into effect on Sunday too, but the Commerce Department announced on Saturday that the deadline would be pushed back another week, as Oracle and Walmart continue talks to buy the platform’s US operations from Chinese firm ByteDance. Should these talks fall through, users will be locked out of TikTok on November 20.

Trump’s app crackdown has angered Beijing, which rolled out its own “unreliable foreign entity” list on Saturday. The Chinese government did not name any single US or Western company that it would place on the list, but said that any entity threatening the “national sovereignty, security or development interests of China” would be added to it.

On Wednesday, the Transportation Committee Blasted FAA, Boeing Over 737 MAX Failures

The 238-page document, written by the majority staff of the House Transportation Committee, calls into question whether the plane maker or the Federal Aviation Administration has fully incorporated essential safety lessons, despite a global grounding of the MAX fleet since March 2019.

After an 18-month investigation, the report, released Wednesday, concludes that Boeing’s travails stemmed partly from a reluctance to admit mistakes and “point to a company culture that is in serious need of a safety reset.”

The report provides more specifics, in sometimes-blistering language, backing up preliminary findings the panel’s Democrats released six months ago, which laid out a pattern of mistakes and missed opportunities to correct them.

In one section, the Democrats’ report faults Boeing for what it calls “inconceivable and inexcusable” actions to withhold crucial information from airlines about one cockpit-warning system, related to but not part of MCAS, that didn’t operate as required on 80% of MAX jets. Other portions highlight instances when Boeing officials, acting in their capacity as designated FAA representatives, part of a widely used system of delegating oversight authority to company employees, failed to alert agency managers about various safety matters.

Boeing Purposely Hid Design Flaws

The Financial Times has an even more damning take in its report Boeing Hid Design Flaws in Max Jets from Pilots and Regulators.

Boeing concealed from regulators internal test data showing that if a pilot took longer than 10 seconds to recognise that the system had kicked in erroneously, the consequences would be “catastrophic”.

The report also detailed how an alert, which would have warned pilots of a potential problem with one of their anti-stall sensors, was not working on the vast majority of the Max fleet. It found that the company deliberately concealed this fact from both pilots and regulators as it continued to roll out the new aircraft around the world.

Friday’s news that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died after her long battle with cancer has briefly pushed most other topics off the great chyron running along the country’s metaphysical information highway. Still, there are lingering echoes of some ancient happenings.

For example, a couple of weeks ago, President Trump brokered a peace deal between Israel and the United Arab Emirates (soon to be joined by Bahrain and other Arab states). This was a world-historical event that not even the silence and distortion of the Washington Post, the New York Times, and other Democratic Party mouthpieces could totally obscure.

And then there was the president’s announcement on Thursday that he was establishing a “1776 Commission” to “promote patriotic education.” The announcement came in the context of a White House-sponsored conference on American history, how it has been distorted, and how it might be rescued.

I single out these two items because they underscore things that the Left and the directionless but power-hungry tergiversations of the Left’s NeverTrump enablers have been warning us about since before Trump took office: first, that he is a madman whose blusterings would precipitate numerous wars and, second, he is a crude simpleton who lacks the sophistication demanded by his great office.

How do those charges look now? Every week it seems there is more good news from the Mideast. The last time I checked, Donald Trump had been nominated not once but twice for the Nobel Peace Prize (which led The Atlantic to declare that it’s time to end the 119-year-old award).

As for the crude simpleton wheeze, how about this from the president’s remarks following that conference on American history:

The gravamen of the president’s observations came towards the end. “For many years now,” he said, “the radicals have mistaken Americans’ silence for weakness.” The flagrant and malevolent nonsense of anti-American proselytizing in our schools, in the country’s corporate culture, even in major government institutions on the federal as well as the state and local level has been growing for years.

But there are many signs, including the announcement of the 1776 Commission, that the conscience of the country is awakening.

What was the response to the president’s initiative? Well, Susan Rice, Barack Obama’s national security advisor, hated it. She said Trump’s address was “was one of the most astonishing speeches I’ve heard him give. He talks about patriotic education. I thought I was listening to Mao Zedong running Communist China.”

Did she though? According to Rice, “We open students’ minds. [Please stop giggling.] We give them facts. We teach them how to analyze. We teach them civics and the foundations of the Constitution.” Really? Then she said this, which rather gave away the show: “When you study the Constitution, which it appears Donald Trump hasn’t, you understand it is a living document that has evolved.” Thanks, Woodrow, for that civics lesson.

At least we know where we stand.

Meanwhile, Jonah Goldberg weighed in on Twitter with a prediction: “A national debate between 1619’s version of history and Trump’s is going to leave a lot of people on the sidelines.”

Iran’s currency crashes to new record low amid flaring tensions with US

The Iranian rial hit a fresh low against the US dollar on Sunday, shortly after Washington unilaterally restored sweeping sanctions on Tehran, despite opposition from the international community and its own allies.

The dollar was selling for as much as 273,000 rials on the unofficial market, according to Iranian foreign exchange site Bonbast.com. Iran’s currency dropped by two percent against the US dollar in 24 hours – the second time in a week it has reached new lows. The rial has lost nearly half its value this year, and has depreciated most significantly since June.

The Iranian economy lost the bulk of its revenues when the US turned up the heat on its “maximum pressure” campaign against the Islamic Republic, after it withdrew from the landmark nuclear deal in 2018. The Trump administration has been trying to choke off Iranian oil sector, ending waivers for buyers of Iranian crude and threatening to sanction anyone who makes such purchases.

In a move that further escalated tensions, Washington announced late on Saturday the unilateral return of “virtually all” UN sanctions against Iran, which were lifted in accordance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JPCOA). The agreement, signed by Iran, the US, Russia, China, the UK, Germany, and France in 2015, was aimed at halting Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. Since the US returned to its sanctions policies, the Islamic Republic has begun gradually scaling down its commitments under the JCPOA, although it hasn’t ditched them completely.

The remaining European parties, which have been working hard to keep the agreement from falling apart altogether, said the US’ “snapback mechanism” doesn’t have any legal effect, as the US is no longer part of the agreement. European countries have been at odds with Washington over Iran since the US’ withdrawal, and have created a special trade mechanism, the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges, known as INSTEX, to dodge some of the US restrictions.

Danish TV show that pairs kids and naked adults slammed as depraved

In Denmark, an award-winning television program called “Ultra Strips Down” allows its live audience of participants aged 11 to 13 to ask the grown-up volunteers whatever questions they want as part of a touted message to promote body positivity and combat body-shaming, according to the New York Times.

The series’ creators are cited as insisting their motive is to dispel the idea, often promoted on social media platforms, that there are perfect body types.

A recent episode focused on skin and hair, with students from Copenhagen’s Orestad School facing five adults who threw off their bathrobes and revealed their naked bodies on stage.

The children began asking questions that ranged from “At what age did you grow hair on the lower part of your body?” to “Are you pleased with your private parts?”

This is a CHILDREN’s show on Danish TV entitled “Ultra Strips Down”,produced by Danish branch of Warner Bros.

The show claims to teach kids about different body types by exposing them to naked adults!

​Currently in its second season on a channel called DR Ultra, the show, which first aired in 2019 and won an award for best children’s program at the Danish TV Festival, has sparked backlash.

Despite Denmark’s relatively permissive attitude towards nudity, a leading member of the right-wing Danish People’s Party, Peter Skaarup, was quoted as slamming the show as “depraving” children, adding that it was “far too early” to expose youngsters to this sort of approach.

As a clip from the show was posted on DR Ultra’s Facebook page, and reposted to other social media platforms, a barrage of comments from users showed clear opposition to the series’ concept of exposing children to naked adult bodies.

While many are unsure of the effect of mail-in voting will have on the presidential election and see it as a crapshoot, one Michigan resident views mail-in voting as a crap chute. A homeowner displayed a toilet-themed display regarding the upcoming election on his front yard that has angered an election official.

Ingham County Clerk Barb Byrum thought the commode-themed election display stunk and called the police.

"Earlier this week, I filed a complaint with the Mason Police Department and the Ingham County Sheriff's Office regarding a report of a potential election violation located just blocks from the Mason Historical Courthouse," Byrum, who is a Democrat, said in a statement released on Friday.

"Elections in this country are to be taken seriously and there are many people who are voting by mail for the first time this Election," Byrum wrote. "We need to put out accurate, complete information about voting by mail, which is the safest way to vote during the pandemic."

"It's solicitation of absentee ballots into a container," Byrum told the Lansing State Journal. "Our election integrity is not a game. I expect everyone to act appropriately, and this is unacceptable."

"This kind of behavior needs to be quashed immediately," she said, flush with indignation. "They are making a mockery of our elections. I'm not going to stand idly by and watch it happen."

Byrum warned, "It is a felony to take illegal possession of an absentee ballot (voted or unvoted)." She pointed out that "felonies of this kind are punishable by a fine of $1,000.00 or 5 years in prison."

The front lawn also has a sign that reads: "Recall Whitmer," which calls for removing Michigan's Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer from office. There was also an election sign for John James, a Republican running for U.S. Senate.

Local police told the Associated Press that the complaint about the latrine display is being investigated.

Many social media commenters on the story played devil's advocate to Byrum's argument. They questioned if anything beneficial can be derived by people who cast their ballots into a toilet on the front yard of some random person's house.
