If everything is going to be just fine, why are officials spending millions of dollars to stockpile giant mountains of food? What has just been revealed about the “new food warehouse” in Washington state should be a major red flag for all of us. Most Americans seem to believe that the COVID-19 pandemic, the enormous economic problems that have erupted and the nightmarish civil unrest that has been raging in our major cities are all just temporary phenomenons and that life will eventually get back to normal. Meanwhile, authorities in Washington state are acting as if what we have experienced so far is just the beginning. According to the Seattle Times, stockpiles of food are being stacked all the way to the roof in “Washington state’s new food warehouse”…

In Washington state’s new food warehouse, there’s enough Jif peanut butter to make nearly 3 million sandwiches.

Barilla pasta boxes stretch to the ceiling, 100,000 in all. Large stacks of TreeTop applesauce, pancake mix and canned green beans sit on pallets, like soldiers waiting to be sent into duty.

That seems like quite an odd thing to do if happy days are right around the corner.

So what prompted authorities in Washington state to do this?

Well, we are being told that the purpose is to “ward off a shortage in the months ahead”…

After seeing food banks struggle to meet demand once the pandemic hit and the economy tanked, the Washington state Department of Agriculture (WSDA) began preparing to buy and stockpile tons of food to ward off a shortage in the months ahead.

A “shortage” of food in the months ahead?

That is quite a statement to make.

In a previous article, I detailed that we are already witnessing periodic shortages of aluminum cans, soda, flour, canned soup, pasta and rice. But what is happening in Washington makes it sound like they believe that what is ahead will be far, far more severe.

Up to this point, Washington state has spent a total of 6.1 million dollars on 4,000 pallets of food, but only about one-fourth of the orders that they have placed have already arrived.

So why hasn’t the rest of the food arrived yet?

Could it be possible that the other 49 states and the federal government are doing the exact same thing?

Unfortunately, I don’t have an answer to that question today. If anyone out there has any leads or intel that will help me to answer that question, please let me know.

Meanwhile, we continue to see unprecedented lines at food banks all over the nation. On Tuesday, vehicles lined up “for a mile” to receive free food at a distribution event in Dallas…

Thousands of people have lined up at a Texas food bank, with cars stretching for a mile as the state struggles with being the third worst affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

Fair Park in Dallas County held its fourth food drive since the pandemic was declared in March but the event on Tuesday was the first mega distribution that offered an option for several hundred walk-up clients without transportation.

In a four part series ‘Surviving Jeffrey Epstein’, accuser Lisa Phillips claims that Virginia Roberts was not the only ‘sex slave’ that Epstein trafficked to the Duke of York.

She claims that “most of the girls didn’t speak about what happened with Prince Andrew but I had one very good friend who confided in me about her experience with him” adding that “She told me that Jeffrey kind of instructed her to go into a room and have sex with Prince Andrew.”

Roberts told the documentary: “There were times that he would send me on a commercial flight to go meet the people… saying, ‘I want you to take care of them and report back to me what they liked, what you did for them’.”

Forensic psychiatrist Dr Barbara Ziv explained: “Once [Epstein] gets someone to accept to have sex with an underage kid, it gives him some power over the individual when the individual accepts.

Numerous former associates of Epstein have also said that the rooms in his vast Manhattan townhouse, where Andrew is known to have stayed, were fitted with cameras.

The cameras are said to have been intended to capture compromising footage of Epstein’s guests.

Describing the rumours, New York Times journalist Christopher Mason, a one-time friend of Maxwell’s, says: “The stories I kept on hearing were that in every guest bedroom in Jeffrey Epstein’s house, there were hidden cameras.

“And that part of Jeffrey’s ability to manipulate was that he had this video of powerful men having sex with underage girls.

“And these recordings were held in a safe that Jeffrey was using as a power tool to manipulate wealthy guys to make them do whatever he wanted.”

Duke University Economist Calls For $800,000 In Reparations For Every Black Household

Duke University economist William Darity Jr. has co-authored a report proposing $12 trillion in reparations for African-Americans who distant ancestors were enslaved — a figure which works out at approximately $800,000 per black household.

Darity Jr. and his wife Kirsten Mullen co-authored the report for The Roosevelt Institute, which claims the current US government is “culpable” and “must pay the debt.“

“Our national debt is already now up to around $26-27 trillion given the money we’re spending on Covid,” said Cato Institute fellow Michael Tanner. “And we’re losing more money because we’re not picking up the revenue because economic growth is so slow right now. This hardly seems the time to burden the economy with more debt, more taxes. Essentially what you want to do is stimulate economic growth for all our benefits.”

Breitbart report: The economics aside, leading African-American political figures, including Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson, have cast doubt over the feasibility of reparations.

Christ’s Cross helped me avoid bitterness: Cardinal George Pell

The Truth, Justice and Healing Council set up by the Church in Australia at the beginning of the Royal Commission into institutional abuse in 2013 failed seriously to highlight the Church’s decisive record in combatting abuse in this country beginning a quarter of a century ago, Cardinal George Pell said this week.

His criticism came in a wide-ranging pre-recorded interview aired at a Catholic conference in the US on 16 August.

During the interview Cardinal Pell discussed his prayer life in prison and how he had been able to remain spiritually focused despite knowing his own innocence, the support he had received via correspondence from ordinary Catholics around the world, the Vatican’s financial situation and the associated problem of corruption within key institutions.

He also revealed his concerns over aspects of the Synod on the Amazon conducted last October and discussed signs of renewal in the Church – including new Church realities such as Opus Dei and the Neocatechumenal Way – and the importance of the Catholic Church in the US to the future of Catholicism around the world.

“The crooks” have largely been run out of Vatican financial institutions or denied access to them but vigilance is required to prevent corruption and inefficiences that have been endemic in the past, he said.

Truth, Justice and Healing Council’s ‘significant error’

Regarding the Truth, Justice and Healing Commission, he said it had “made a significant error in not explaining to people – it might have been unpopular – that in fact the ‘old’ Church, from the middle nineties, had acted resolutely and effectively, to impede this plague, to prevent the offenses continuing,” he said in the 30-minute interview conducted in Sydney for a congerence organised by the NAPA Institute, a California–based think tank focusing on the Catholic Church.

There was no denying the crimes that were committed, that they were infamous and had been poorly handled by Church authorities, he said, “but in Australia we broke the back of the offending in the middle 90s,” a fact that had even been acknowledged by counsel assisting the Royal Commission during its proceeding.

Catholics would be astonished to know how little offending had actually occurred in recent decades, he said.

“I heard of a public meeting where a friend of mine who actually knew what was going on asked the authorities in that diocese ‘how many offenses in that diocese have you had in Catholic institutions this century?’ And there were none or almost none. And the Catholic audience there was stupefied,” he told Catholic Weekly columnist Monica Doumit.

Dealing with jail

The major change to his spiritual life had been not being able to celebrate the Eucharist each day, he said. Unable to offer the Mass for the intentions of others as he ordinarily would, he instead prayed the Memorarae, a prayer seeking the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as individual requests came to him.

“In jail you’ve got no excuse that you’re too busy to pray,” he said. “I had a regular prayer routine of the Breviary, meditation and I followed spiritual reading generally every day. And on Sunday I watched Mass For You At Home at the impossible hour of six o’clock in the morning.

“Then I watched the American evangelists Joseph Prince from California and Joel Osteen from Texas. And in my journal I’d make a theological critique of their efforts – but both of them are very fine preachers and they’ve got big followings.”

Support from around the world

He estimated he had received around 4,000 letters in jail but had almost-exclusively limited himself to responding – against legal advice – to fellow prisoners. He had done this because he felt it was his duty as a priest, he said.

People from all over the world and every background in life had written to him during his jail time, including two women in Texas. Their letters had been “very stimulating and beautiful, interesting, letters. They gave me something to ‘chew on’ theologically and spiritually,” he said.

He stayed abreast of world events through reading a Melbourne newspaper three times a week and watching SBS world news broadcast each evening.

“So I was pretty well abreast of things and people would send me cuttings. Friends sent me loads of articles,” he said.

Forty percent of U.S. Covid-19 tests come back too late to be clinically meaningful, data show

CNBC and Dynata ran a survey of more than 9,400 Americans in all 50 states to get a sense of testing turnaround times for Covid-19. Experts say results need to be returned in less than three days, optimally two, to be clinically meaningful. The results showed almost 40% of tests take longer than that.

In early July, Shannon Mayer started to feel a sudden tightness in her chest. “The next day it was really hard to breathe,” the 31-year-old Chicago resident told CNBC. “I got scared.” Mayer has asthma, but says she hadn’t had an issue with it for years. So she decided to get a test for Covid-19. The results, she was told, would take five to 10 days, and she was instructed to quarantine while she waited. After a week, the results still hadn’t been returned. And Mayer already felt better and suspected she wasn’t infected, so she stopped quarantining. “Had I stuck with it, I would have been in my house for three weeks,” she said. She was tested July 1, and her results didn’t come back until July 24. Luckily, she was negative. Mayer’s not alone. Bethany Silva, who lives in New York City, reported a 13-day wait for her results. For Lisa Miller, in New Jersey, it was a week.

Health experts say two days or less is optimal for returning Covid-19 test results to make them useful for stopping transmission. If test results take more than three days, people are unlikely to self-quarantine and getting in touch with the people they interact with during that time — potentially spreading virus — can be difficult. “It’s really clear that if tests take more than 48 hours, you’ve lost the window for contact tracing,” Dr. Ashish Jha, professor of global health at Harvard University, said in an interview. “I think, basically, beyond 72 hours, the test is close to useless.” A survey run by CNBC in partnership with Dynata, a global data and survey firm, suggests almost 40% of Americans had to wait more than three days for their results, rendering them — by Jha’s definition — useless. That’s certainly the way Mayer felt. “The whole purpose is to find out if I have it before it’s over,” Mayer said. “So that just completely defeated the purpose.”

The results varied state by state. Some, like Massachusetts and South Dakota, had average turnaround times of just over two days. Others, like Arizona and West Virginia, were closer to four and a half days, on average. Indiana’s average test turnaround time was more than five days. Jha said the variation is evidence of a fragmented testing strategy in the U.S. “It would take a national testing strategy to make sure that, if there’s excess capacity in Massachusetts, but long lines in Florida, that Massachusetts could help Florida out,” Jha said. “Largely we have not had a national testing strategy. The strategy out of the White House has been for every state to figure this out on their own.” Even national labs struggled to keep up with demand when cases were surging across the Sunbelt, with Quest Diagnostics saying in mid-July that its turnaround times were more than a week for non-priority patients. It has since said it’s increased capacity and that results now take an average of two to three days.

Admiral Brett Giroir, the Trump administration’s Covid-19 testing czar, told NBC’s Andrea Mitchell this week that results that take seven to 14 days are outliers. “In general, if you do need a test — you fall in the categories of needing a test, even for public health tracing — you’re going to get that result within 48 to 36 hours,” he said. Not everyone needs tests, Giroir said, and the national testing approach is “strategic testing, not shotgun testing,” which he said has reversed the outbreaks in that region. Indeed, new daily cases declined by 44% in Florida from a mid-July peak, while they’re down 73% in Arizona, both on a seven-day average, according to the Covid Tracking Project, a data source run by journalists at the Atlantic.

China To Begin Major Expansion Of Digital Currency Testing

China's Commerce Ministry released new details Friday of a pilot program for the country's central bank digital currency (CBDC) to be expanded to several metropolitan areas, including Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and Yangtze River Delta region.

The Commerce Ministry is currently running pilot tests in four cities: Xiong'an New Area, Shenzhen, Suzhou, and Chengdu. The People's Bank of China (PBoC), the country's central bank, is supervising the rollout of the CBDC pilot program on a city by city basis.

China's CBDC is also known as a digital currency electronic payment (DCEP) and could become the first national digital currency. In April, the PBoC tested DCEP among government workers in Suzhou. Major state banks have also been administering large scale tests of digital wallets designed for a digital currency, or as the world will eventually find out: the digital yuan.

Beijing owned China Global Television Network (CGTN) said test subjects would be able to "withdraw money, make payments, and transfer money after registering with their mobile phone number. The banks are also testing a scenario where users can transfer money without the internet."

Last week, the PBoC said it would "actively and steadily promote the research and development of the state digital currency" during the second half of the year.

The Commerce Ministry provided no details on when the extended pilot programs would begin. The ministry said the policy design of the digital currency would be achieved by the end of the year.
