What happened?

On December 9th, an acute remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability was reported in the Apache logging package Log4j 2 versions 2.14.1 and below (CVE-2021-44228).

Apache Log4j is the most popular java logging library with over 400,000 downloads from its GitHub project. It used by a vast number of companies worldwide, enabling logging in a wide set of popular applications.

Exploiting this vulnerability is simple and allows threat actors to control java-based web servers and launch remote code execution attacks.

The Log4j library is embedded in almost every Internet service or application we are familiar with, including Twitter, Amazon, Microsoft, Minecraft and more.

At present most of the attacks focus on the use of a cryptocurrency mining at the expense of the victims, however under the auspices of the noise more advanced attackers may act aggressively against quality targets.

Since Friday we witnessed what looks like an evolutionary repression, with new variations of the original exploit being introduced rapidly- over 60 in less than 24 hours.

For example, it can be exploited either over HTTP or HTTPS (the encrypted version of browsing). The number of combinations of how to exploit it give the attacker many alternatives to bypass newly introduced protections. It means that one layer of protection is not enough and only multi layered security posture would provide a resilient protection.

At a time when America is bitterly divided, democratic institutions are challenged at home and abroad, and the Supreme Court shows signs of joining politicians in suffering from declining public esteem, Chief Justice John Roberts is offering a strong warning to the Supreme Court, the American Bar Association and the nation about the sanctity of the U.S. Constitution.

In the latest decision surrounding the controversial abortion law in Texas, Roberts, joined in this opinion by the three liberal justices of the Court, offered a strong dissenting opinion against key aspects of the majority opinion.

The principles behind the Roberts dissent in the Texas abortion rights case raise fundamental legal questions about whether individual states can nullify constitutional rights decided by the Supreme Court, and whether the Supreme Court will lose its unique place as the guardian of constitutional rights and face increasing public disapproval.

The principles behind the Roberts dissent, if they are not highly respected in cases before the court, will have profound political impact in the midterm elections in 2022 and the presidential election in 2024.

The result could create the equivalent of a constitutional civil war, in which red states pass laws to undermine judicial review of rights that red state leaders disapprove of, including abortion rights, while blue states pass laws undermining judicial review of laws that blue state leaders disapprove of, including gun ownership, as California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a rising star among Democrats, is fairly suggesting.

And if Texas can empower vigilantes to persecute Americans exercising their constitutional rights under settled law, how many other states will empower other vigilantes to persecute other Americans for exercising other constitutional rights?

While the Texas case involves abortion rights, the Roberts warning is that this dangerous trend in recent court discussions could create a powerful and dangerous threat not only involving abortion rights, but endangering any right protected by the Constitution.

Roberts wrote: "Texas has employed an array of stratagems designed to shield its unconstitutional law from judicial review." And "the clear purpose and actual effect" of the Texas law "has been to nullify this Court's rulings."

Quoting from Marbury v. Madison, a defining Supreme Court ruling in the history of American constitutional law, Roberts continued, saying "it is emphatically the province and duty of the judicial department to say what the law is."

And if state legislatures can nullify decisions of the Court and destroy the rights upheld in those decisions, "the constitution itself becomes a solemn mockery."

The chief justice warns: "The nature of the federal right infringed does not matter; it is the role of the Supreme Court in our constitutional system that is at stake."

Roberts's warning is that if any state can unilaterally nullify any constitutional right decided by the Supreme Court, there is no constitutional right, decided by any Supreme Court, that is protected from nullification, by any state.

It is extraordinary, profoundly worrisome, and in my view brilliantly correct, for the U.S. chief justice to suggest decisions by a majority of justices could turn the Constitution itself into a mockery.

America is a bitterly divided nation. As the Supreme Court appears to act more political, its approval rating has fallen significantly, to 40 percent in a Gallup poll. Our democracy is facing an aggressive attack against voting rights, fair counting of votes, abuses in reapportionment, a criminal attack against our Capitol, attempted abuses of executive privilege and other critical matters the Court will consider.

If a Supreme Court majority proceeds on the course that Chief Justice Roberts warns against, it would be a national tragedy, a constitutional disaster and a scandal with incalculable legal and political consequences.

This would set off a race by politicians in state after state to destroy whatever constitutional rights they deplore, further dividing the nation, destroying public confidence in the Court, and endangering our democracy - which is the diametric opposite of the unique role the Founding Fathers envisioned for the United States Supreme Court.

Why is Russian collusion hoaxer Chuck Schumer putting Russia’s interests ahead of those of the United States by blocking Nord Stream 2 sanctions on Putin’s pipeline into Europe.

Schumer along with many other prominent Democrats is a secret beneficiary of campaign contributions from top Democrat fundraiser Vincent Roberti whose far-left lobbying firm was paid a whopping $8.5 million by Nord Stream 2 which is owned by Putin’s state-run Gazprom energy monopoly.

Frontpagemag.com reports: Roberti, a former Dem politician, has maxed out his donations to Schumer and to Rep. Eric Swalwell, who may have been cheating on Fang Fang with Vladimir, and threw in a generous $171,000 to the DCCC, as part of the over $545,000 donated to the Democrat political machine.

The top Dem bundler is reportedly lobbying on “issues related to the U.S. position toward the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, including potential financial sanctions affecting the project.”

Suddenly, Schumer, who was accusing the GOP and Trump of being in bed with Putin, and demanding that they vote on sanctions, was refusing to hold a floor vote on Russia sanctions.

“Millions of Americans will continue to wonder if the only possible explanation for this dangerous behavior is the possibility that President Putin holds damaging information over President Trump,” Schumer had smeared back then. What damaging info does Putin have on Chuck?

President Trump, at the time, had urged that, “we should start an immediate investigation” into Schumer’s ties with Russia, and described him as a “total hypocrite”. That is an understatement.

Three years ago, Schumer was clamoring that putting off sanctions on Russia, “is an extreme dereliction of duty by President Trump, who seems more intent on undermining the rule of law of this country than standing up to Putin.” That describes Schumer in a nutshell.

But not just Schumer.

“With him, all roads lead to Putin,” Pelosi had ranted. “I don’t know what the Russians have on the president, politically, personally, or financially.”

Roberti plowed $46,100 into Pelosi’s Victory Fund. He also appears to have maxed out his contributions to the House Majority Leader and gave $5,000 to her PAC to the Future.

Louisiana Governor to Add COVID-19 Vaccine to List of Required School Immunizations

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards confirmed he is moving forward with adding COVID-19 vaccines to the required list of school immunizations, despite the state’s House Health and Welfare Committee voting to reject the proposal at a hearing last week.

In a letter (pdf) to the House Committee on Health and Welfare Chairman Larry Bagley on Dec. 14, the governor said he disapproved of the committee’s rejection, and he plans to allow the rule to go into effect because it will “save lives” and help the state emerge from the pandemic.

Under the proposed amendment, SARS-CoV-2 shots would be added to the list of required vaccinations for school entry. Vaccinations and all potential boosters would also be required for school attendance. The rule will go into effect beginning with the 2022–23 school year.

The requirement would only apply to age groups for whom the FDA has given full approval of the vaccine, which is currently ages 16 and up, unless expanded.

Parents will still be able to exempt their children from being vaccinated against COVID-19 by claiming religious, medical, or philosophical reasons via a written dissent. Claims for exemptions due to medical reasons should be done via submission of a written statement from a physician stating that such vaccination is contraindicated for medical reasons.

“I understand that any issue around COVID-19, especially those that involve our children, can be divisive, I ask that you and your colleagues work with me to get more people in Louisiana vaccinated,” Edwards wrote to the committee chair.

“It is worth noting that while many of the diseases on the public health immunization schedule were once both rampant and deadly, they are no longer serious risks for school age children in Louisiana. This is true because almost everyone was vaccinated against these diseases, many as a condition for attending elementary school,” Edwards wrote.

“One can only imagine where we would be as a state if the same overheated rhetoric from last week’s meeting was applied to Polio or Measles. The development of the COVID-19 vaccines in time to help us put this pandemic behind us also requires us to do everything we can to add COVID-19 to the list of diseases that no longer pose a serious threat,” Edwards said.

The governor also pointed to official figures stating that over 770,000 people in Louisiana have tested positive for coronavirus, while almost 15,000 have died from the disease in the last 22 months, 19 of which were under the age of 18.

Google To Fire All Unvaccinated Employees

Google told its employees that they would lose pay and eventually their jobs if they did not abide by the company’s COVID-19 vaccination policy, according to an internal memo obtained by CNBC.

Employees had until Dec. 3 to state their vaccination status to the company and upload the required documentation or to apply for a medical or religious exemption, according to the memo, CNBC reported.

Those employees who did not comply with the company’s policy by the Jan. 18 deadline would reportedly be placed on “paid administrative leave” for 30 days, according to the memo. Workers who do not meet the company’s requirements after the 30 days of paid leave would be placed on “unpaid personal leave” for up to 6 months.

Employees who still refuse to seek out a vaccine after the six-month deadline would be fired, CNBC reported.

“We expect that almost all roles at Google in the US will fall within the scope of the executive order,” the memo said, according to CNBC. “Anyone entering a Google building must be fully vaccinated or have an approved accommodation that allows them to work or come onsite,” the memo said, adding that “frequent testing is not a valid alternative to vaccination.”

Google chief executive Sundar Pichai announced in July that the tech giant would require vaccines for all those returning to the office, according to CNBC. Google reportedly planned on opening its offices in January, but in early December, executives told employees they could temporarily stay remote.

Google is just one among many large companies recently deciding to enforce strict COVID-19 rules.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. announced Tuesday that all unvaccinated employees of its Manhattan offices have to work remotely, citing growing COVID-19 cases and fairness to vaccinated employees, the Daily Caller News Foundation reported.

Meanwhile, supermarket giant Kroger said Tuesday that it will eliminate paid emergency leave for unvaccinated workers who have COVID-19 in addition to requiring some to pay a monthly $50 health insurance surcharge starting in 2022.
