Add train thefts to the long list of serious problems in crime-ridden, Democrat-controlled Los Angeles.
Journalist Adam Housley, who previously worked for Fox News, alerted America to this issue (which also could perhaps add to supply chain woes) by tweeting out a dystopian-like image of what appears to be the remnants of ransacked materials left on train tracks.
“Meantime…this is modern day train robbery. Modern day LA not far from Union Station…a few days ago. Unfortunately it is happening every day. As soon as the train stops, thieves start opening containers. It is quite well organized. This is the main line,” Housley claimed, in informing his 200,000-plus social media followers.
The Associated Press explained that such wrongdoing is committed by new-school schemers.
“Train robbery, a quintessentially 19th-century crime, is rolling on into the 21st century. Along with the technology, though, the targets have changed: The old gangs preyed mostly on passenger trains, snatching gold and cash from riders and the baggage-car safe. Today, freight trains loaded with such merchandise as electronics, cigarettes and tires are the lure…”
“Most freight bandits are hit-and-run artists whose strikes have little planning, such as those conducted by street gangs in Chicago and Los Angeles, or by Mexican gangs that dash across the border in Texas and New Mexico,” AP added.
Over the summer, authorities in the L.A. County city of Pomona found of “treasure trove” of stolen goods when they were clearing a homeless encampment near the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.
“The cargo appeared to be more than $100,000 worth of various products – vehicle tires, small kitchen appliances and fixtures, major appliances, auto parts, clothes, shoes, cleaning supplies, baby items and other household items. Police say Union Pacific trains had recently been a target for thefts over the past several months, so after officers recovered the property, it was turned over to the Union Pacific Railroad,” CBS Los Angeles reported in late August.
In the summer of 2020, cops arrested five Los Angeles-area men who allegedly unloaded 45, high-end flat-screen televisions from a freight car parked at a railroad siding.
“[T]he thieves would scout trains departing the Los Angeles area to identify those potentially carrying high-end cargo,” and some of them would purportedly hide in rail cars, authorities alleged, according to ABC7, Los Angeles. “If their activities went undetected, the defendants would allegedly begin removing cargo from the cars.” ‘
The TVs had a purported value of about $4,000 each.
“The four-count indictment alleges conspiracy, theft of interstate commerce, receipt of stolen property from interstate commerce and breaking and entering a carrier facility,” the news outlet added.
As the quality of life has rapidly deteriorated under liberal policies, L.A. is also unfortunately afflicted with open-air drug use, rampant homelessness, and random and not-so-random street violence, and robberies.
At the same time, Democrat politicians in Los Angeles have imposed a vaccine mandate on law enforcement officers and other public employees.
The Los Angeles County sheriff has warned that the mandatory inoculation policy could lead to mass resignations, thereby critically jeopardizing public safety.
In a letter dated October 28, Sheriff Alex Villanueva claimed that “I could potentially lose 44% of my workforce in one day.”
Mask and vaccine mandates are also in effect in the county for ordinary people as a condition for entry to certain venues.

UN official calls out Elon Musk to help end starvation with $6B check. Musk responds, adds one stipulation.
Elon Musk, the world's richest man whose net worth is close to $300 billion, said Sunday that he would cut a check to help end world hunger.
Musk, however, placed a stipulation on his offer that will probably not be well received by the organization that called him out.
What is the background?
Last week, David Beasley, the director of the United Nations' World Food Programme, told CNN that a $6 billion donation from the world's top billionaires — like Musk or Amazon founder Jeff Bezos — could immediately save 42 million people from starvation.
"The governments are tapped out. This is why and this is when the billionaires need to step up now on a one-time basis: Six billion dollars to help 42 million people that are literally going to die if we don't reach them," Beasley said.
"It's not complicated. I'm not asking them to do this every day, every week, every year," Beasley continued. "Just help me with them, one time. That's a $6 billion price tag."
Beasley noted that Bezos and Musk made far more than $6 billion since the pandemic began last year and said Musk's net worth recently increased by $6 billion in a single day.
"The top 400 billionaires in the United States, the net worth increase was $1.8 trillion in the past year," Beasley said. "All I'm asking for is .36% of your net worth increase. I'm for people making money, but God knows I'm all for you helping people who are in great need right now. The world is in trouble."
"Wake up, smell the coffee, and help!" Beasley pleaded.
What did Musk say?
In response, Musk said he would liquidate $6 billion worth of Tesla stock to finance Beasley's request. However, Musk added that the U.N. would need to prove that every penny donated went toward feeding people.
"If WFP can describe on this Twitter thread exactly how $6B will solve world hunger, I will sell Tesla stock right now and do it," Musk said. "But it must be open source accounting, so the public sees precisely how the money is spent."
In response, Beasley said his comments were mischaracterized. In fact, $6 billion would not solve world hunger, he said.
"Headline not accurate," Beasley responded. "$6B will not solve world hunger, but it WILL prevent geopolitical instability, mass migration and save 42 million people on the brink of starvation. An unprecedented crisis and a perfect storm due to Covid/conflict/climate crises."
Musk responded by reaffirming his commitment to transparency.
"Please publish your current & proposed spending in detail so people can see exactly where money goes," Musk said. "Sunlight is a wonderful thing."

US lawmakers play with the idea of social media ID verification, following proposals from other countries
A draft discussion bill hints at future proposals.

Anonymity is often vital for those who want to speak truth to power and expose government wrongdoing. We only need to look to the US government’s treatment of National Security Agency (NSA) whistleblower Edward Snowden and Wikileaks founder Julian Assange to see how far governments will go to target those that don’t have the shield of anonymity when they reveal information that governments want to hide.
And in 2021 governments have renewed their efforts to end online anonymity by proposing and introducing new laws that force users to hand over their identity documents (IDs) to use social media and by framing online anonymity as something that needs to be eradicated.
While most of these government efforts to end online anonymity have been widely covered in the media, America’s recent proposals have managed to stay out of the spotlight.
But despite flying under the radar, these proposals do exist in a discussion draft that was introduced by Congressman John Curtis in May.
The discussion draft aims to “require a provider of a social media service to verify the identity of users of the service, and for other purposes” and prevent anyone from creating a social media account without verifying their identity.
Not only does this discussion draft intend to make ID verification mandatory for anyone who wants to create a social media account but it also wants to force social media companies to report users to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) whenever they suspect users have submitted fake IDs. Additionally, it contains a requirement for the FTC to submit these reports to the United States (US) Department of Justice (DOJ).
Social media companies that fail to comply with the terms outlined in this discussion draft will be targeted under section 18(a)(1)(B) of the Federal Trade Commission Act (15 U.S.C. 57a(a)(1)(B)) which allows the FTC to define “unfair or deceptive acts or practices,” impose additional requirements on companies to prevent these acts or practices, and introduce “significant civil penalties for rulebreakers.”
While the discussion draft does include an exception for social media providers that have annual revenues of less than $1 billion for three consecutive years, the large social media platforms where the vast majority of the more than three billion total social media users are registered will be forced to verify the real identity of their users under the discussion draft’s current requirements.
Alternative social media platforms will only be shielded from this requirement if their revenues stay below the annual $1 billion threshold and if the discussion draft becomes law, this limit could be encroached upon and lowered, as has happened many times before with other laws.

Ms Yellen appeared to rule out any further hikes in future.
Speaking from Government Buildings, she said: “I think we have agreed that 15% is the global minimum tax. “Now, of course, individual countries may choose themselves to establish a higher tax, but I expect many countries to adopt the 15% tax. “I don’t think that there’s broad agreement on that. “It works for many countries and I don’t think that that’s something that is going to be reconsidered as a global minimum.” The European Commission is to develop proposals on implementing the new tax rate in the coming weeks, Minister Donohoe said. Mr Donohoe, who also serves as president of the Eurogroup of finance ministers, declined to comment on rumours that pillar one of the agreement could fail to pass through the US congress.

Judge Suspends Lori Lightfoot’s Deadline For Chicago Police Officers to be Vaccinated Against Covid-19
A Cook County Judge on Monday suspended Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s December 31 deadline for Chicago police officers to be vaccinated against Covid.
As TGP reported, Chicago upped its battle with police officers over the mandated COVID vaccine, issuing a statement recently threatening the retirement benefits of officers who opt to retire from the force rather than submit to Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s COVID vaccine mandate and reporting system.
Lightfoot ordered back in August that all city employees must be vaccinated by October 15. The deadline was later modified, after objections by the police union, to the end of the year but with a proviso that unvaccinated workers submit to twice-weekly testing at their own expense. All workers must report their vaccine status through an online portal starting this Friday or face being put on no-pay status.
The Associated Press reported:
A judge on Monday suspended a Dec. 31 deadline for Chicago police officers to be vaccinated against COVID-19 but didn’t interfere with a requirement that they be regularly tested.
Disputes over vaccinations should be handled as a labor grievance with an arbitrator, Cook County Judge Raymond Mitchell said.
“The effect of this order is to send these parties back to the bargaining table and to promote labor peace by allowing them to pursue” remedies under Illinois law, Mitchell said.
The grievance process could last months, the city said last week.
Officers who haven’t been vaccinated still must be tested twice a week under city policy. Officers also can lose work and pay if they don’t disclose their vaccine status.
In the meantime Indiana is recruiting Chicago cops disgruntled by Lightfoot’s Covid vaccine mandate.

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The El Paso Police Department (EPPD) announced Monday afternoon that the subject at the center of the morning’s lockdown at Parkland High and Parkland Pre-K in Northeast El Paso has been captured.
EPPD officials said 23-year-old Pablo Issac Paredes was taken into custody several miles away, along the 3200 block of Merry Meadows in Far-East El Paso.
According to law enforcement Paredes threatened a student, then the whole school.
“Northeast Patrol Officers were dispatched to 5932 Quail Ave, reference a terroristic threat initially to a student that attends Parkland High School. Paredes then made further threats to the entire school, and the school was promptly placed on lockdown.”

Paredes was charged with terroristic threat with a bond of $25,000.00 and stalking with a bond of $5,000.00.
As for the students at Parkland High School and Parkland Pre-K, law enforcemetn officials said arrangements were being arranged for their release.
YISD officials also told KTSM that they would like to thank the Parkland community for their patience.
Both schools were placed on lockdown Monday morning around 9 a.m., and El Paso Police Department (EPPD) officers were dispatched, after district officials say a threat was made against a student by “another individual.”
Shortly after noon, EPPD officials announced that they were searching for 23-year-old Pablo Issac Paredes, who is wanted for previous warrants. Law enforcement asked the community to not approach Paredes, as he “may be armed.”

We knew this would eventually happen. Twitter has locked PJ Media’s account and is demanding that we delete a tweet that told the truth about Rachel Levine’s gender. You remember Levine. He’s Joe Biden’s transgender assistant secretary for Health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and, if you believe the Washington Post, the “first-ever female four-star admiral” in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.
PJM’s Matt Margolis took issue with that claim in an article titled: “Rachel Levine Is Not the ‘First Female Four-Star Admiral’… Because He’s a Male.” He wrote:
Even if you believe that gender is a social construct and subject to how one feels and not dependent on biology, sex chromosomes determine whether an individual is male or female. Rachel Levine is 100 percent male, right down to his DNA. He is not a female. He may have grown his hair out and changed his name to a woman’s name, but that doesn’t make him a female.
Most reasonable people would not quibble with that statement. “Science” certainly wouldn’t. But we’re not living in a reasonable age, and “science” has been co-opted by those on the Left who would have us believe that 2+2=5 and that a man can become a woman by pumping himself full of hormones and hacking off his ding-dong.
When Matt tweeted out his article, his Twitter account was promptly locked. When PJ Media tweeted it out shortly thereafter, our official account was also locked.

Former Maricopa County Recorder Adrian Fontes
Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich has opened a formal criminal investigation into the fraudulent 2020 election and his office is now examining the suspects.
The Gateway Pundit reported that Mark Brnovich is still awaiting the router and Splunk log analysis but he is digging deeper to “hold people accountable for breaking the law”, according to Arizona Senate President Karen Fann.
The Arizona audit proved that election laws were violated and as a result, hundreds of thousands of ballots are now in question.
The citizen-led canvass of Maricopa County voters revealed there were hundreds of thousands more “ghost votes and lost votes.”
The Elections Management Server was connected to the internet and election files were deleted from the Elections Management Server.
This was all in Maricopa County, alone. Joe Biden was declared the winner of Arizona by a margin of fewer than 10,500 votes.
All of these election determining discrepancies have been denied since election day, all while they threw the stolen election in our faces and declared it was the “most secure election in American history.”

AZ Central reports,
Roger Geisler, a special agent with Brnovich’s major-fraud unit, questioned Adrian Fontes, the Democratic former Maricopa County recorder, on Monday about issues stemming from the election.
Another investigator also attended the one-hour interview of Fontes, arranged late last week by Geisler.
The interview, Fontes told The Arizona Republic, is unlike any briefings he had with law enforcement officials during his four years as recorder, and did not suggest he was the target of a criminal probe. Fontes is a lawyer and a former member of the Attorney General’s Office who is seeking the Democratic nomination for Secretary of State next year.
Last week, attorney general officials told The Republic it had not received any written complaints of election fraud from the Trump campaign, Trump’s lawyer, or key figures from his reelection campaign. Officials did not respond when asked repeatedly whether the office had received any verbal requests.
The investigators seemed to be taking up issues raised by Cyber Ninjas, the Florida-based company that conducted the ballot review for the Senate, Fontes said.
“They are going down the Cyber Ninja rabbit hole,” Fontes said afterward. He added, “It’s incredibly troubling that a prosecutor would send two agents out to try to bolster the ‘Big Lie,'” a reference to Trump’s unfounded assertions that widespread fraud led to his loss against Democrat Joe Biden.
In an email seeking time with Fontes, Geisler said he “would like to know about the election preparation and execution. What some of the difficulties were and what worked well.”
Investigators questioned Fontes about some of the questions raised during the ballot review of 2.1 million ballots in Maricopa County from the 2020 election and zeroed in on the timing of archiving for computerized election records. Fontes said they did not seem to understand the basics of election administration.
In a letter to Brnovich on Sept. 24, Fann said there were several “urgent issues” that needed to be followed up on. Those included the signature verification process for absentee ballots, the maintenance of voter rolls, election technology and machinery, and preservation of election-related information to be used for future audits, if warranted.

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - Arizona State Senate President Karen Fann is retiring, effective, January 2023, she recently announced.
Fann said in a statement on Monday, Nov. 1 her decision came after 28 years in local and state government positions and after37 years of owning her business, which she recently sold.
She said it was a “privilege” to serve in the legislature and the “honor of a lifetime” to serve as Senate President.
“I look forward to a successful session in 2022 advancing policies that benefit all Arizonans, and then enjoying the life my husband and I have built for ourselves in retirement with our family,” she said.

James Lee Fann, dad, husband and friend, died unexpectedly of a massive cerebral hemorrhage on Sunday, May 28, 2006. He was 72.
He was born on June 14, 1933, in Rolla, Mo., to Bessie (Moss) and Benjamin Fann. After his high school graduation in 1952, he was married to Sylvia Bassler. From 1952 to 1956 he served as a damage controlman in the U.S. Navy after which he worked for the McDonnell Aircraft Corporation in St. Louis. Two years later he moved to Prescott to work in heavy construction for his uncle, Sid Webb. In 1960 he and Sylvia established J.L. Fann Ditching and Excavating, which later became Fann Contracting, Inc. In 1990 he moved to Flagstaff to foundQmax and soon after established residence in Williams, where he was married to Elaine Moffitt.
He was known for his passion for work, spending 46 years as an entrepreneur in heavy construction. His life inspired love, compassion, fortitude, purpose, dedication, quality and giving back 100 percent. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time sailing, fishing listening to music, and caring for the many animals on his residence.
He is survived by his wife Elaine Fann of Williams; his son, Michael W. Fann of Prescott; his daughters Gail Fann Thomas and her husband, Ken of Monterey, Calif.;Karen E. Fann and Jim McKown of Chino Valley; Sarah Bird and her husband, Brian of Phoenix, Arizona; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother Bess Foster; stepfather, Clyde Foster; and close family friend, Sharon Miller Kobayashi.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Calvary Chapel, 2313 E. Highway 69, Prescott, Arizona. Graveside services will follow at Mountain View Cemetery at 1051 Willow Creek Road, Prescott.
The family suggests memorial donations may be made to the Mercy Ships (mercyships.org) or Smile (operationsmile.org).
Arrangements are by Hampton Funeral Home.

PHOENIX – Following a comprehensive procurement process, the Arizona Department of Transportation has entered into negotiations with the apparent preferred developer to design, construct, operate and maintain improvements to Interstate 17 between Anthem Way and Sunset Point, a major stretch of highway that sees more than one million travelers every year.
After an extensive review process, Kiewit-Fann Joint Venture has been selected as the preferred developer. Key members of the development team include Kiewit Infrastructure West Co.; Fann Contracting Inc.; Kiewit Engineering Group Inc.; DBI Services LLC; CONSOR Engineers LLC dba Apex Design; T.Y. Lin International; Lee Engineering; Terracon Consultants Inc.; Wheat Design Group, Inc.; Y2K Engineering; and Pinyon Environmental Inc.
For years, Arizona motorists, businesses and tourists have voiced their support for widening and improving I-17 north of the metro-Phoenix region to alleviate congestion and improve traffic flow. This project will improve 23 miles of I-17, including 15 miles of roadway widening, two bridge replacements, one bridge deck replacement, 10 bridge widenings, and the installation of an eight-mile flex lane system — a new feature for Arizona’s highway system. Flex lanes are proven technology to help reduce congestion on I-17 during peak travel times and allow for traffic movement during emergency situations.
ADOT sought proposals from qualified developer teams interested in reconstructing the 23-mile section of this key commerce corridor. Three finalists were selected earlier this year to advance through the selection process. All three finalists were encouraged to use innovation and develop alternative concepts to deliver the best possible design, construction, operation and maintenance strategy for the project.
The final cost will be determined after extensive contract negotiations.
“Arizonans are excited to see major improvements to Interstate 17 coming soon, and today’s news is an important step forward,” said Governor Doug Ducey. “I-17 is a critical link to northern Arizona communities and a vital economic corridor. Expanding this section of I-17 will reduce congestion, improve traffic flow and strengthen public safety. Millions of Arizonans will benefit from I-17’s improved connectivity and reliability when this project is completed.”
ADOT has begun contract negotiations, and, pending a final contract, anticipates design and construction will begin in 2022. Construction is expected to take approximately three years. Construction crews are aiming to minimize impacts to the traveling public while work is underway. On busy days, this stretch of Interstate 17 can see more than 50,000 drivers a day.
“The vision of the Arizona Department of Transportation is moving Arizona to become the most reliable transportation system in the nation,” said ADOT Director John Halikowski. “The I-17 project represents that vision and is a profound step toward enhancing the safety and efficiency of one of Arizona’s most iconic highways. ADOT is committed to innovative solutions to improve our highways, and this unique and creative project is a perfect example. It supports ADOT’s True North of getting everyone safely home.”
The I-17 flex lanes will operate as a separate, two-lane roadway carrying one direction of traffic at a time depending on the greatest need along the steep, winding eight miles between Black Canyon City and Sunset Point. For example, the flex lanes will be able to carry heavier northbound traffic on a Friday or heavy southbound traffic on a Sunday. Similarly, ADOT will be able to open the flex lanes to accommodate traffic anytime if a crash or other incident causes long delays. The flex lanes will be next to, but physically separated from southbound I-17 using concrete barriers. Access to the flex-lane entrances will be controlled by gates.
In February, Governor Ducey announced $40 million in funding for the I-17 project from higher-than-anticipated revenue amid Arizona’s strong economic recovery and federal COVID-relief funds. Additional project funding sources include $130 million of state highway funds appropriated by the state legislature in 2019; a $90 million Infrastructure for Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant; $50 million programmed by the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) for the Maricopa County portion of this project; and $52.3 million from federal aid with matching state highway funds.
