Air Force Reveals An Afghanistan Evac Flight Was Almost Hijacked

The U.S. Air Force revealed that five individuals who boarded an evacuation flight out of Afghanistan’s Hamid Karzai International Airport (HKIA) in August intended to hijack the plane but U.S. forces were able to prevent the situation from happening.

The Air Force said in a statement, “As a steady stream of C-17s entered HKIA, PRTF personnel started tracking military and commercial flights into HKIA. ‘The data they were tracking was pivotal to managing airflow/airspace and requests for additional airlift support based on the numbers they got through the gates,’ [Lt. Col. Brian Desautels] said. On one occasion after they received an intel tip, five people onboard one of the commercial flights intended to hijack the aircraft. ‘Our team worked to get them clear of the NATO ramp, relocated to the north side away from friendly forces, then ultimately onto the south side where the situation was handled,’ he said.”

The Air Force also addressed the ISIS attack on the HKIA that killed 13 U.S. servicemembers.

“The sewage alley near Abbey Gate was packed with over 10,000 people when it was bombed around 6 p.m. local time. The terrorists then engaged with small arms fire.… Eleven Marines, one Navy corpsman and one Soldier were killed in the attack,” the statement said. “Seventeen service members were wounded and received care at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, before being transported to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. One Marine was still in “serious but stable condition,” according to a U.S. Marines spokesperson, as reported Oct. 6.”

“More than a thousand service members attended the ramp ceremony of the 13 KIA at HKIA,” the statement added. “Ramp ceremonies have historically never been shown before, but this one was mistakenly uploaded and then removed on the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. On social media, veterans and servicemembers shared the photos and memories of their own experiences at ramp ceremonies, as the fall of Afghanistan has been more emotional for many who have served there.”

12,000 Air Force Personnel, Including Elite Pilots, Have Rejected Vax Order As Tuesday Deadline Looms

The deadline is looming for US Air Force personnel to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and many thousands are still refusing, according to the latest reports. For many at this point, it's also too late to receive both jabs by the next Tuesday, Nov. 2 deadline. Other branches like the Navy have deadlines coming later in November, but the Air Force will be the first test case as it set the earliest deadline.

The Washington Post is now at the end of the week reporting that up to 12,000 Air Force personnel are still declining the vaccine, causing alarm within the top chain of command who are worried it will impact force readiness, particularly as some forces in key positions face discharge over their vax refusal. "The fact that it’s a choice leading to potential loss to readiness is striking," a military policy analyst with the Center for a New American Security Katherine L. Kuzminski, told the Post.

Short of full discharge, those refusing the mandate could be charged under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), based on prior Defense Department statements. Currently some class action lawsuits are said to be underway among troops - including reservists - who argue the mandate violations their individual medical freedom and Constitutional rights.

When it comes to the Air Force especially, there's a risk of losing pilots and technicians - people in elite and highly skilled positions - who have undergone years of prior training at a government and taxpayer cost of millions of dollars. The Hill summarizes the dilemma facing military top brass as follows:

However, with such a significant amount of service members rejecting the vaccine mandate, officials are faced with a dilemma — take action against those who rejected the mandate and possibly face serious setbacks within units that should be ready for a crisis, or go back on a wide-scale requirement established in August by the top military leaders.

If military leaders back down, it could set a precedent allowing personnel to more readily push back against future mandates - for example if a booster shot is ordered - something the Biden administration has signaled it may be prepared to do.

"The Air Force is the third-largest military service at 324,000 members, the Post noted. So even a small percentage of the ranks can be substantial," The Hill summarizes further of the situation.

The US Navy is of similar size in terms of active duty members. The Navy and other branches are also at risk of seeing a mass exodus. Earlier this month a report in AFP underscored that "If all the services take the same hard line that the navy is taking, it risks losing as many as 46,000 troops, though presumably more will accept vaccinations before the deadline." The Navy's deadline is Nov.28 for all to be in full compliance.

South Dakota Gov. Noem Signs Order To 'Protect' State Employees From Biden's Vaccine Mandate

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem signed an executive order this week to “protect” state employees against President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate by allowing them to easily obtain medical and religious exemptions.

“South Dakota is fighting back against the heavy hand of @JoeBiden & his Administration,” the Republican governor announced on Twitter. “Today I signed an Executive Order to protect state employees, & those w/ federal contracts who are being forced to get vaccinated against their wishes. The order protects medical & religious exemptions for these workers.”

“Additionally, I am working w/ legislators on addressing other areas. I have always said the decision to get vaccinated should be a personal choice-not a mandate from Joe Biden, Fauci or your boss,” she added.

Noem said the move was necessary to ensure that employees aren’t forced to get COVID-19 vaccinations under Biden’s initiative, which covers not only people directly paid by federal contracts but also anyone who works to support them

State lawmakers have said South Dakotans are being denied medical and religious exemptions from feds and have called for a special session to stop it.

Noem spokesman Jordan Overturf said Noem’s exemptions are “explicit and offer a clear path” for state workers to opt-out of the shots.

In a press release from Noem’s office, the governor said that employees who wish to receive a medical exemption from the vaccine mandate need a note from a doctor stating that the COVID-19 vaccination is too risky for health reasons.

Workers who wish to be exempted for religious reasons must fill out a form from the Bureau of Human Resources that states that they “dissent and object to receiving a COVID-19 vaccine on religious grounds, which includes moral, ethical, and philosophical beliefs or principles.”

“Due to established precedent, this Executive Order does not apply to service members with the South Dakota National Guard who must meet federal readiness responsibilities for deployment,” the release adds.

It also states that Noem will work during next year’s legislative session with South Dakota lawmakers to make these “protections” for state employees permanent, and “to extend similar health and religious liberty protections” to employees of private businesses who adopted mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policies.

The governor earlier criticized proposals by Republican lawmakers to ban vaccine mandates as “not conservative” because they’re telling businesses what to do and how to treat their employees. This order, spokesman Overturf said, is about upholding rights already included in the Constitution.

“She has repeatedly said private businesses should offer medical and religious exemptions for COVID vaccine mandates,” Overturf said.

Noem earlier said on Twitter that the state will “l stand up to defend freedom,” referring to the president’s vaccine mandates.

“@JoeBiden see you in court,” she wrote in September, later adding that her legal team is prepared to stand up to the Biden administration’s mandates.

just inquiring at this point bout both covid remedies and stuff good for pneumonia - i was the one who researched that the last time i got pneumonia and they gave me the requested drugs (amoxicilland and azithromycin) instead of moxifloxicin or augmentin, which are (as they they) "less well tolerated."

i study everything obsessively (ocd, right?) before i actually take it. Most of the stuff ordered is not script drugs but there are a few that at least bear looking into.

only time i got into trubble with a drug was when i did NOT study ciprofloxicin after it was PRESCRIBED - which it shouldn't have been. Horrible - have mentioned before. Other time was with muh father's situ, an iatrogenic death. Moral on that one - Never get sick at Christmas

Hospitals not safe, not here not anywhere imo. Pharmacies won't fill scripts for ANY kind of covid meds 'round here, even if prescribed. Good thing the internet has info, just got to read widely enough to figure out the consensus in most situs, know the drug interactions and possbiel consequences.

SSRI's are very specific in action, they all inhibit seratonin reuptake but can target appetite and bring on mania, target anxiety and bring hypersomnolence etc

still don't like monkeying with psych meds unless specific need, not sure what seratonin has to do with covid, that is muh disconnect

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has revealed he manages stress through a strict diet and exercise regime as well as quirky lifestyle habits like hours of meditation each day.

The 42-year-old's only daily meal is dinner, but he won't eat at all on weekends, he has ditched warm showers altogether and he walks the distance between his home and the social media HQ in an effort to make sure his mind stays sharp.

Dorsey - whose net worth is $5.3billion - claims the routine makes his days feel longer and says he's able to switch off to get ample sleep every night

The tech boss, who is also the co-founder of Square, often posts moments from his day on his microblogging website profile but he shared more details in a March 15 podcast with Ben Greenfield Fitness.

'During the day, I feel so much more focused. … You have this very focused point of mind in terms of this drive,' Dorsey said about having his only meal between 6.30pm and 9pm.

Dorsey usually enjoys fish, chicken, or steak with a salad or a side of vegetables and has berries or dark chocolate for dessert.

The single man - who says he wants to have a family at some point and is trying to experiment with what has the best impact before he does - will allow himself red wine on occasion but notes it interrupts his sleep if he has too much.

But he ditches food altogether for two days of the week and reintroduces calories into his diet with bone broth to prepare for the new week.

'I'll go from Friday 'til Sunday. I won't have dinner on Friday. I won't have dinner or any meal on Saturday. And the first time I'll eat will be Sunday evening. I've done that three times now where I do [an] extended fast where I'm just drinking water,' Dorsey revealed.

'The first time I did it, like day three, I felt like I was hallucinating. It was a weird state to be in. But as I did it the next two times, it just became so apparent to me how much of our days are centered around meals and how - the experience I had was when I was fasting for much longer, how time really slowed down.'

He said the only supplements he takes are 'a multivitamin and a lot of vitamin C' at dinnertime and he first heard about the idea on a Wim Hof podcast two years ago.

'The time back from breakfast and lunch allowed me to focus more on what my day is,' he continued. 'I can go to bed and actually knock out in 10 minutes, if not sooner than that. It really changed how quickly I felt asleep and more so how deep I felt I was sleeping.'

Despite access to the top fitness experts being a possibility, Dorsey simply does seven minutes of exercise per day using the Seven app.

'I don't have a personal trainer. I don't go to a gym,' he admits.

But he gets additional exercise in by walking briskly for an hour and 15 minutes every day to work, allowing him to soak up some vitamin D through sun rays.

He added: 'I might look a little bit more like I'm jogging than I'm walking. It's refreshing … It's just this one of those take-back moments where you're like, 'Wow, I'm alive!''

Oura Ring Secures $28m to facilitate better sleep

Oura, the sleep-tracking smart ring that counts Prince Harry as a fan, has secured $28m from Forerunner Ventures, Gradient Ventures and Square.

In a Medium post announcing the raise, Oura CEO Harpreet Singh Rai said the funds would be used to help grow the Oura team by hiring key talent and facilitate the roll-out of a redesigned website which will house a new content portal to bring actionable insights for users to the forefront.
