First batch. 1/2

(1)Ali Khamenei buried as US signals Iran talks may continue

Summary

The governor of Konarak in Iran’s southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province said a naval military area in the city was targeted in two waves of airstrikes by fighter jets.

A senior official in Iran’s southern Bushehr province said explosions heard in the city on Thursday were caused by air defense fire against US drones, while a military site on the outskirts of Bushehr was also struck by what he called a “US-Israeli” projectile.

A US official, however, told CNN the US was not conducting any airstrikes in Iran.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said Thursday the military was “alert and prepared for the resumption of the campaign” in Iran and ready to carry out “blue-and-white” (independent Israeli) strikes there “even for a third time.”

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned against any further US military “adventurism” on Thursday during a phone call with Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, saying Iran's military was ready to respond.

US Central Command said on Wednesday night American forces launched additional strikes against Iran. "The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping."

US strikes, Hormuz clashes push Iran deal to brink

The fragile memorandum between Tehran and Washington is facing its biggest test yet after two days of US strikes on targets along Iran’s southern coast and Iranian attacks on commercial shipping near the Strait of Hormuz raised fears of a return to full-scale war.

Iranian officials have threatened severe retaliation, while analysts warn that disputes over sanctions, maritime routes and the future of the agreement could push both sides into another major confrontation.

Mohsen Jalilvand, a professor of international relations, said the continued US military presence in the region and Tehran's insistence on controlling shipping through the Strait of Hormuz have significantly increased the risk of war.

"When both sides continue to stand by their positions, and there are no signs of retreat, it is only natural that the likelihood of a broader confrontation increases," he told the news website Fararu.

(3)Israel told US Iran plotted to kill Trump - WSJ

Israel shared new intelligence with the United States that it said indicated a fresh Iranian plan to kill President Donald Trump, The Wall Street Journal reported citing people familiar with the matter.

The report said the finding would mark an escalation in the war between Washington and Tehran. The Israeli embassy in Washington declined to comment, whileIran’s mission to the United Nations did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Trump said Wednesday in Ankara that he was on “every single one” of Iran’s lists and had so far been “a little bit lucky.”

(4)Regional mediators push to salvage US-Iran deal - Axios

Qatar, Pakistan and other regional mediators are trying to de-escalate tensions between the United States and Iran and revive nuclear negotiations, Axios reported citing two sources from mediating countries and a US official.

The report said Qatari, Pakistani, Turkish, Egyptian and Saudi officials held multiple calls Wednesday with US and Iranian officials to calm the situation and seek another round of technical talks.

One regional source involved in the mediation said efforts were focused on first securing de-escalation and then setting a date for another round of negotiations between technical teams.

A US official told Axios the Trump administration remained “committed to finding a resolution” and that technical-level talks were continuing.

2/2. 2nd batch

(5)Mamdani official’s planned meeting with Iran envoy canceled

A top official in New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s administration planned to meet with Iran’s UN envoy before the meeting was canceled following State Department intervention, City Journal reported.

Ana María Archila, commissioner for international affairs, was scheduled to meet Amir-Saeid Iravani, Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, on July 7 at 2 United Nations Plaza, alongside two other senior officials in the mayor’s international affairs office, according to the report.

City Journal reported citing a State Department official that the department had not been informed of the planned meeting and later met with the Mamdani administration to clarify acceptable conduct.

The report said Archila allegedly did not inform Mamdani of the meeting, was reprimanded and directed to cancel it, citing a source familiar with the office.

“This meeting did not and will not take place,” a spokesperson for the Mayor’s Office for International Affairs told City Journal.

(6)US says still committed to Iran resolution - Reuters

Washington remains committed to finding a resolution with Iran and technical talks are continuing, Reuters reported Thursday citing a senior US official.

The remarks came amid renewed escalation between the United States and Iran in recent days.

(7)CENTCOM rejects Iran claim on Hormuz transit routes

US Central Command rejected Iranian state media claims that transit through the Strait of Hormuz is only permitted through routes designated by Iran, saying Tehran does not control the strait.

Centcom said Thursday in a post on X that since early May, US forces had helped facilitate the successful transit of more than 800 commercial vessels and 380 million barrels of crude oil through the international trade corridor.

Debate Erupts as Every USMNT Player Forced to Share $246,000 After FIFA World Cup Exit

The USMNT's World Cup dreams ended with a disappointing Round of 16 loss to Belgium, and the backlash from the defeat has extended beyond the pitch.American soccer fans have turned their attention to US Soccer's equal-pay agreement after learning that the men's FIFA prize money will be shared with the USWNT.

The USMNT secured $16 million in prize money before the 4-1 loss to the Red Devils at the Seattle Stadium. Under the terms of the historic 2022 collective bargaining agreements ratified between U.S. Soccer and both national teams, the federation keeps 20% of that total, with the remaining $12.8 million split equally between the men's and women's teams.

Each side will receive $6.4 million, and each player gets roughly $246,000, -despite the women's team not competing in a World Cup until 2027. This effectively cuts the men's team's earnings by half.

Reports by ESPN's Jeff Kassouf state that theUSWNT's share will be kept in an interest-bearing account until the final roster for the 2027 tournament is selected.

The specific arrangement from the CBA is a groundbreaking one, signed following a gender discrimination lawsuit. The women's team won four World Cups, whereas the men have not made it past the Round of 16 since 2002. In 2019, members of the USWNT sued US Soccer, and the settlement that followed resulted in the current CBA.The pay-sharing structure is meant to address the gap between FIFA's payout for the two tournaments.

The gap is clear even today. In 2022, the USMNT reached the Round of 16 and received $13 million, whereas the USWNT earned just $1.87 million for reaching the same stage in the 2023 Women's World Cup.

Fans split over USMNT prize money being shared with USWNT

As news of the payout spread online, many fans questioned why the men's World Cup earnings should be shared before the women even begin their tournament.

One fan wrote, "If the women weren't paid properly and they brought in the same viewership and sold the same tickets, then absolutely. If no one watched the women… then why should they get more?"

Another argued that the arrangement hurts the growth of the sport in the US, writing, "And this is one of the reasons soccer doesn't prosper here… others taking something it does not belong to them."

Others used analogies to get their point across. One user posted, "That is like paying the band that plays at my local dive bar the same salary as Pearl Jam when they play MSG."

Some fans questioned the principle behind the CBA itself. One such fan added, "Getting paid for doing nothing is crazy, so this is what they were calling equal pay. Pay regardless of work."

Meanwhile, some took to sarcasm. One of these responses read, "All 39 USWNT fans will be thrilled to hear this."

Israel Hands US Curiously-Timed Intelligence Saying Iran Plotting To Assassinate Trump

Update(21:00ET): Here's what President Trump said from Ankara on Wednesday which left many wondering just what he was referring to: "They want to take out the U.S. leader—me," he said in reference to the Iranians. "I’m on every list. I saw this morning, I’m on every single one of their lists. And so far, I guess I’ve been a little bit lucky, but that maybe doesn’t last very long."

The Wall Street Journal in a Thursday evening report says that Israel has provided fresh intelligence to the White House indicating just such a Tehran-linked plot. The timing is quite curious and interesting given it comes just as the warring sides standing on the brink of returning once again to full-scale war:

Israel shared new intelligence with the U.S. that it said indicated a fresh Iranian plan to kill President Trump, people familiar with the matter said, a finding that would mark an escalation in the war between Washington and Iran.

Iran for years has vowed openly to retaliate against Trump for the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, who was a top general in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in the president’s first term.

The Israeli embassy in Washington declined to comment. Iran’s Mission to the United Nations didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. The White House referred The Wall Street Journal to comments the president made on Wednesday.

The Israelis have remained deeply dissatisfied with terms laid out in the previously agreed-to MoU, and so have every incentive to goad Washington further into the conflict. Certainly many within the US administration know this, and so might be taking this new 'intelligence warning' - which was leaked rather quickly to major media - with the appropriate degree of skepticism.

Meanwhile the US says it is still engaged in 'technical talks' with Iran, despite the past days of tit-for-tat bombings. "Technical talks between the US and Iran are continuing, according to a US official, following two days of clashes that threatened to shatter an already fragile ceasefire between the two nations," reports Bloomberg, also late in the day Thursday. "The US is still committed to finding a solution with Iran, the official said Thursday, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the matter."

So it appears there's still hope that things might not spiral further. As for the alleged assassination plot, this isn't the first time Iran has faced such accusations, and each time Tehran officials have vehemently denied them.

Marines open units on East and West Coast to focus on drone warfare

The new units, based in Quantico, Virginia, and Twentynine Palms, California, will experiment with new technologies and develop training for deploying Marines.

The Marine Corps is standing up two new organizations focused on drone warfare at its major training bases on the East and West coasts. Based at Marine training hubs at Twentynine Palms, California, and Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, the two units will develop and test drone tactics, technology, and training for Marines headed to real-world deployments.

Both new units are part of the Marine Corps’ full court press to adapt to new battlefield realities as small, inexpensive drones become prolific in war zones.

The two units will have different missions. The Virginia group will be an experimental counter-drone team within the Weapons Training Battalion, testing new technologies and tactics. The California-based unit will develop doctrine and training courses for instructors to train and certify fleet units with upcoming real-world deployments.

Dubbed the Marine Corps Robotics Integration Group, the West Coast unit will be based at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms. The group will develop training and certification requirements for deploying units on using and defending against unmanned systems, said Maj. Hector Infante, a spokesman for Training and Education Command.

“The Marine Corps Robotics Integration Group provides the institutional framework necessary to rapidly integrate validated capabilities into standardized training,” Maj. Gen. Mark H. Clingan, the commanding general at Twentynine Palms, said in a statement. “The battlefield continues to demonstrate that small unmanned aircraft systems are no longer niche capabilities; they are indispensable tools for reconnaissance, precision strike, force protection and survivability.”

In Virginia, the new counter drone team will experiment with the constant stream of new technologies and techniques around unmanned vehicles in use around the world, according to a Wednesday news release on the team,

The team was conceived as a counterpart to the Marine Corps’ attack drone team, which was established last year at Quantico, the news release says.

Both the attack team and counter drone team, the release said, will feed their results to the robotics group at Twentynine Palms to inform their training plans.

The two new units are part of an overall effort in the Marines to bring drones to line units. Other programs have included equipping Marines headed to the Middle East with an advanced system to help them shoot down drones and training Marines how to dig trenches that can protect them from small quadcopters.

Diplomat reveals number of Russian civilian casualties from past week’s attacks by Ukraine

38 Russian civilians, including one child, were killed, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said

38 Russian civilians, including one child, were killed and 270 others were injured in Ukrainian attacks over the past week, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a comment on the Ukraine crisis.

"Over the past week, 308 civilians suffered at the hands of Ukrainian militants. Of them, 38 people, including one child, were killed and 270 others, including eight children, were injured," the comment reads.

According to Zakharova, the Nazi regime of Vladimir Zelensky "is attempting to intensify terror against Russia’s civilian population and infrastructure." "[This is] to demonstrate to the Western curators the efficiency of the use of weapons being supplied by them and the need to increase military aid to Ukraine further," she explained.

A Top Mamdani Official Tried to Meet with Iran

Ana Maria Archila, Commissioner for International Affairs, almost took a meeting with the Islamic Republic’s ambassador to the U.N.

The top official in the Zohran Mamdani administration’s Office for International Affairs made plans to meet with Iran’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations.

Commissioner Ana María Archila was scheduled to meet with Amir-Saeid Iravani, Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, at 2 United Nations Plaza, alongside two other senior officials in the Mayor’s Office for International Affairs on July 7 at 11 a.m.—this according to screenshots of a calendar invitation reviewed by City Journal and confirmed by a source connected to the international affairs community and another familiar with Archila’s office. Another official within the State Department also confirmed awareness of the Mamdani administration’s impending engagement.

The meeting between Archila and Iravani was called off after the State Department—which was not informed ahead of time—met with the Mamdani administration to clarify acceptable conduct, according to the State Department official. City Journal learned that Commissioner Archila allegedly did not inform Mayor Mamdani of the meeting; she was reprimanded for the move and directed to cancel the meeting according to the source familiar with the office.

“This meeting did not and will not take place,” a spokesperson with the Mayor’s Office for International Affairs said in a statement. The Iranian mission did not return multiple requests for comment.

The development is a continuation of Commissioner Archila and the Mamdani administration’s ongoing use of public resources to advance an agenda that extends well beyond New York City. On April 16, a message seen by City Journal was sent to staff within the Mayor’s Office for International Affairs asking them to prioritize diplomatic engagement in part based on whether foreign officials “are . . . in political alignment/leftist.” The message confirms previous reporting by El País, noting that Archila has “focused . . . on deepening relations with foreign leaders who share Mamdani’s worldview.”

New York City officials did not originally envision the Mayor’s Office for International Affairs as a means of shaping foreign policy. Its purpose is to exchange best practices with other global cities, bring foreign businesses to the city, and support city government’s relationship with the entire diplomatic community residing in New York City, without regard to political ideology or party.

That makes Archila, who has no prior diplomatic experience, an unusual choice. Mamdani appointed her as commissioner after she had had an exhaustive career in activism and served as co-director of the progressive Working Families Party, whose official position is that the war in Iran “can and must be stopped.”

The Mamdani administration has been notably vocal on foreign policy. The mayor himself has spoken out about U.S. and Israeli strikes against Iran, describing them as a “catastrophic escalation in an illegal act of war of aggression.” He has also been frequently and explicitly critical of the state of Israel, an opposition he says is based on dislike for any state that “privileges one religion over another”—a description that also covers the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The administration’s international ambitions have not been limited to public comments. Last month, Mamdani intended to meet with leftist Colombian President Gustavo Petro. The meeting was called off after the State Department declined to issue a visa following Petro’s attendance at a rally hosted by Mamdani in September. Archila’s international meetings include a two-day trip to Barcelona in April to participate in a conference hosted by the Party of European Socialists.

That Archila’s meeting was even contemplated raises questions about her judgment and the administration’s priorities. The office’s loosely defined mission is to promote a more “equitable and inclusive society” and strengthen New York City’s position as a global leader. It’s more than a stretch to suggest that a meeting with representatives of a country with whom the United States is engaged in hostilities, and with whom it has no diplomatic relations, would help achieve those ends.

Victor Davis Hanson: The Ungrateful Urban Class Turning Into the New Democrat Socialist Party

The disease of Democrat Socialism is slowly spreading throughout three groups of people: urban consumers, immigrants, and DEI advocates.

Their symptoms and agenda include everything antithetical to traditional American policy: open borders, amnesty for illegal immigration, and the conflation of citizenship with mere residency.

Their methodology is to run in select blue cities in local elections, giving them a chance to out-fund and out-perform the Democrats. And if they do that well, socialism could spread to the entire Democrat Party.

Socialists can’t afford to create a third party, so they’re simply taking over another.

Victory! Supreme Court Says Constitution Protects Location Data

This week, the U.S. Supreme Court handed a huge win to privacy advocates, and EFF was there.

We told the Court that geofence warrants are the digital equivalent of police going person to person, home to home, without suspicion that any device holder has a connection to a crime. This turns innocent bystanders into suspects just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The Court listened.

JOIN EFF TODAY

This decision in Chatrie v. United States expands on our win in Carpenter v. United States eight years ago. It confirms that even shorter-term surveillance of location data can constitute a search, because it can still reveal “a wealth of detail about a person’s familial, political, professional, religious, and sexual associations.”

EFF filed an amicus brief alongside the ACLU, the Center on Privacy & Technology at Georgetown Law, and digital rights defenders across the country.

Your support makes this work possible. Your contribution helps us to craft these careful briefs that win in the courts. We hope you'll join us in the fight.

Yours warmly,

Allison Morris

EFF Chief Development Officer

🚨WHAT ON EARTH??!!!!

The National Guard has just SUSPENDED all 8 pilots of the Apache helicopters that flew on the "Salute to the Shore" flyover across the South Carolina coast.

No reason has been given for their suspension.

A source says as soon as the pilots landed, they got a message saying they were suspended pending an investigation.

Thats called "flat hatting". You are supposed to be 500 feet and above over populated areas unless you have express permission to do so. (VFR route, formal Fly over etc). When I saw this I said to myself "man I hope that was a cleared fly by".. Essentially thats joy riding in a 30M helo..

In Chatrie v. United States, the Supreme Court held in a 6-3 decision that police conduct a Fourth Amendment "search" when they use a geofence warrant to obtain a person's cell phone location data from a third-party provider like Google. The June 2026 landmark ruling significantly impacts digital privacy and law enforcement investigations. Key aspects of the case include:The Third-Party Doctrine Rejected: The Court ruled that individuals maintain a reasonable expectation of privacy in their cell phone location data. The government had argued that because users voluntarily allow Google to collect and store their location information, they forfeit constitutional protections (known as the third-party doctrine). The Court disagreed, reasoning that modern location tracking creates an exhaustive, continuous record of an individual's private movements. The Case Background: Following an armed credit union robbery in Virginia, local police obtained a geofence warrant directing Google to identify all devices that were inside a specific geographic radius during the time of the crime. This dragnet digital sweep eventually identified Okello Chatrie as a suspect. He moved to suppress the evidence, arguing the warrant was unconstitutional.Next Steps: While the Supreme Court determined that a "search" occurred—meaning geofence warrants are subject to Fourth Amendment protections—it did not determine whether the specific warrant used in Chatrie’s case was ultimately unconstitutional. The case was vacated and remanded to the lower courts to determine if the warrant satisfied the Amendment's probable cause and particularity requirements

Syndicate members jailed in Australia’s first child trafficking conviction

This is a joint media release between the AFP and the ABF.

Editor’s note: Images of the original operation are available via Hightail.

An Arncliffe man who ran an organised crime syndicate that profited from human trafficking between Australia and Indonesia has today been sentenced to six years and five months’ imprisonment, with a non-parole period of four years and five months.

The man, now 45, is the first Australian to be convicted for trafficking in children after he facilitated the transportation of a 17-year-old from Indonesia to Sydney to engage in sex work in 2024.

A 32-year-oldSydney man has also been sentenced to two years and eight months’ imprisonment for his role in transporting the syndicate’s victim throughout Sydney to engage in forced labour.

The two-year investigation into the human trafficking syndicate – known as Operation Mirani – began in December 2022, after the AFP received intelligence that foreign nationals were arriving in Australia and being forced into sexual servitude in breach of their visa conditions.

The True Story of NSA’s Brilliant Whistleblower Bill Binney

Documentary 'A Good American'

"A Good American" is a 2015 documentary that follows William Binney, a former high-ranking NSA technical director and cryptanalyst, along with his team. It details how they developed a sophisticated surveillance program called ThinThread, which could efficiently detect threats while protecting Americans’ privacy. The film claims the program was canceled in favor of a more expensive and less privacy-focused alternative just before the 9/11 attacks, and explores the subsequent shift toward widespread mass surveillance, Binney’s whistleblowing, and the personal and professional consequences he faced. Trump Fires Three Remaining Members of the Election Assistance Commission Ahead of Midterms

President Trump on Thursday fired the three remaining members of the Election Assistance Commission ahead of the 2026 midterms.

Two Democrat commissioners Thomas Hicks and Benjamin Hovland were fired over email.

The lone Republican commissioner, Christy McCormick, resigned.

The firings left the independent commission with no commissioners.

The firings come after the Supreme Court ruled that a US president has the authority to fire heads of independent agencies in the executive branch.

Reuters reported:

U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday terminated the members of the Election Assistance Commission, the independent, federal commission that assists election administration officials nationwide, according to ‌one person familiar with the decision and two other people briefed on the terminations.

The remaining three commissioners of the four-member bipartisan commission were forced out of the commission on Thursday in different ways. The ‌one Republican appointee resigned and the other two Democratic appointees were notified of their termination via an email by the White House Presidential Personnel Office.

“On behalf of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as Commissioner of the Election Assistance Commission is terminated, effective immediately. Thank you for your service,” the email, seen by Reuters, said.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Election Assistance Commission serves as a “national clearinghouse of information on election administration,” accredits testing laboratories and certifies voting systems, ‌and maintains the national mail voter registration form developed by the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, according to the commission’s website.

Not Making Headlines: Dr. Oz Announces Crackdown on Durable Medical Equipment Fraudsters and Fraudulent Medicare Tissue and Organ Transplant Claims – Saving American Taxpayers Millions

Dr. Mehmet Oz, the Director of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, announced on Thursday that 725 durable medical equipment suppliers had their billing privileges revoked.

According to Dr. Oz, these suppliers represent more than $1.5 billion billed to Medicare just last year!

In just six months Dr. Oz and the Trump administration have effectively wiped out Durable Medical Equipment (DMS) fraud in America.

Dr. Oz and the Trump Administration also cracked down on fraudulent Medicare claims for tissue and organ transplants.

Pro Trump News and IJR reported:

The Trump administration says a dramatic increase in Medicare claims for tissue and organ transplants has led to a nationwide fraud crackdown that is blocking millions of dollars in suspicious billing.

According to Fox News, new figures released Wednesday show Medicare claims for allografts, or tissue and organ transplants, climbed from approximately $200 million in 2019 to $14.4 billion in 2025.

Administration officials said the 7,100% increase prompted a closer review by the White House Anti-Fraud Task Force and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

CMS, led by Administrator Mehmet Oz, said it identified about 4,200 suspicious transplant claims totaling $224 million through May. Since March, the agency has denied 96% of claims submitted in that category.

Speaking in Milwaukee, Oz said the sharp rise in billing posed a significant financial threat.

“That’s a lot of money,” he said. “And that bankrupts not just hospital systems and physician groups, but it causes major problems across the entire system.”

Federal immigration agents are now working alongside state troopers at commercial truck weigh stations across the country as the Trump administration intensifies its crackdown on illegal commercial drivers, according to U.S. Border Czar Tom Homan.

Appearing on Fox News on Tuesday, Homan said the Department of Homeland Security is partnering with the U.S. Department of Transportation and state law enforcement agencies to identify commercial drivers who are operating trucks with improperly issued commercial driver’s licenses.

“We’ve got a lot of people we’re looking for,” Homan said. “Actually, some states we’re actually working weigh stations with the troopers, trying to get these people as they’re coming through.”

Homan said more than 28,000 non-domiciled commercial driver’s licenses have been revoked nationwide and acknowledged that obtaining driver records from some states has complicated enforcement efforts.

"We’re working very closely with many states,” Homan said, adding that DHS is coordinating with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy while the Department of Justice pursues legal action against jurisdictions that refuse to share driver information.

Mexico’s Top Diplomat Announces Legal Actions Against ICE, Detention Centers Over Migrant Deaths

https://www.breitbart.com/border/2026/07/09/mexicos-top-diplomat-announces-legal-actions-against-ice-and-detention-centers-over-deaths-of-migrants/

Mexico’s top diplomat, Roberto Velasco Alvarez, announced a series of legal actions against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and private migrant detention centers in response to the deaths of migrants in custody, as well as during raids.

The announcement comes just one day after, as Breitbart Texas reported, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum threatened legal action following this week’s shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Houston. In that case, federal agents shot at Salgado after he allegedly used his vehicle to ram a police vehicle and then tried to run over an ICE agent during an operation to apprehend him. Sheinbaum claimed that the only thing that Salgado did wrong was not having legal status.

“The President has instructed us to take blunt actions in response to these tragedies,” Velasco said during a news conference. “The reality is that Lorenzo Salgado They took his life agents from ICE.”
