Besides the regular night vision and infrared visual analyzers, the Navy should have these lights on drones or jetsons type aircraft for search and rescue operations of man overboard situations. This is a lot of light in a 6lb package. At 9k lumens, they can run up to 3 hours, 18k for 1.5 hours, or as much as 200k lumens for 45 seconds. In reality, cooling is the main issue for such a short duration, but drones and jetsons have propellers which could be designed to help in the cooling process if re-engineered. Same thing could be done with the battery banks for longer runtimes. Jetsons are about $125k, do 100 mph, and can fly for about 2 hours. Compare that to just on or two stallion helicopters on a vessel, and the time to deploy a full load, and the critical minutes add up quickly, especially in colder weather and waters. Carriers are usually the ones to deploy speed rafts with divers, but more eyes in the sky with various lights, is what is needed in man over situations. Smoke grenade at sea will last just so long, but electrified assets can be deployed almost instantly if not instantly.
