The FBI is conducting three times as many domestic terrorism investigations than it was five years ago, with 70 percent of its open cases focused on "civil unrest" and anti-government activity, according to FBI documents and government specialists. The Bureau has also quietly changed the general classification of white supremacy, antisemitism, abortion-, and anti-LGBTQI -related extremism to "hate crimes" rather than "terrorism." Since terrorism remains the top national security priority, this has lowered the visibility and resources dedicated to those issues.

The FBI considers all violent acts (and threats of violence) with a political motive to be terrorism, a senior government official explains to Newsweek. But not all acts of extremism are considered terrorism. "If an act is focused on the government, it's terrorism," the source says. "But if extremism is focused on private individuals or institutions, it's considered just a crime or classified as a hate crime." The source was granted anonymity to speak about classified matters.

Microvast also under scrutiny for shielding its books from auditors

President Joe Biden's Department of Energy is touting a grant to a lithium battery company as a move that would help herald the shift to green energy and ensure the United States is cultivating domestic sources of energy. It did not say, however, that the Texas company receiving the grant operates primarily from China and is under scrutiny from American financial regulators.

The DOE announced in October that it would give the $200 million award to Microvast Holdings to build a battery separator facility in Tennessee, using funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. At the time, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said the grant would "supercharge the private sector to ensure our clean energy future is American-made."

While the DOE described Microvast as a "majority U.S.-owned company, traded on NASDAQ" and "headquartered in Stafford, Texas," financial records show the company operates primarily out of China. Microvast itself says the Chinese government "exerts substantial influence over the manner in which we must conduct our business activities and may intervene, at any time and with no notice." The company was also recently added to a Securities and Exchange Commission watchlist of Chinese companies that are on track to be delisted from NASDAQ for failing to comply with U.S. auditing requirements.

The DOE award demonstrates the challenges posed by the green energy transition sought by Democrats and the Biden administration and raises questions about the vaunted $1.2 billion Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding. That bill was meant to boost U.S. battery companies and strengthen the domestic clean energy supply chain, which has been highly dependent on China. The grant is also drawing calls for additional oversight from Congress. The infrastructure law, as written by lawmakers, states that the DOE should avoid funding projects that "use battery material supplied by or originating from a foreign entity of concern," which includes companies "subject to the jurisdiction or direction" of China.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) told the Washington Free Beacon that the Biden administration "has a lot of explaining to do."

"Giving hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars to a company whose operations are based in China that refuses to comply with American securities rules is crazy," said Rubio. "What's more, any new technology developed in this partnership is almost certainly going to benefit China given Microvast's operations there. It is just another example of the Biden administration not understanding the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party."

Former DOE officials said the funding was highly concerning and is likely to set off alarms with legislators.

"The Biden appointees knew from the outset that because of China's aggressiveness in infiltrating U.S. energy and high-tech companies they were going to need to be extra vigilant about where these [infrastructure] funds went," one former DOE official told the Free Beacon. "A simple Google search shows enough of a relationship between China and the shell company they're using to access U.S. taxpayer funds to raise questions."

"Now Congress, [the Government Accountability Office], or someone needs to be asking what information did the applicant provide about their relationship with China, how far up does that relationship go," the official said.

The DOE did not respond to a request for comment.

In its 2021 annual SEC report, Microvast describes itself as a "holding company" that conducts its business "principally through our subsidiary in China."

"A substantial portion of our operations and manufacturing and most of our current customers are in the [People's Republic of China]," said Microvast, adding that it has received subsidies from the Chinese government and that most of its customers are associated with "state-owned companies in the PRC."

In May, the SEC added Microvast to a list of Chinese companies that aren't in compliance with U.S. auditing requirements under the Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act. The law, which went into effect last spring, is designed to prevent Chinese companies listed on the U.S. stock exchanges from using non-approved China-based auditors to obscure their finances.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) &ndash; Houston police and fire department personnel responded to the Houston home of Sen. Ted Cruz on Tuesday night.

HPD told Eyewitness News that officers responded to reports of a 14-year-old with self-inflicted stab wounds on the arms in the upscale neighborhood of River Oaks. Police were in the front yard of Cruz's home when ABC13 arrived.

The teen was taken to the hospital.

Police could not say whether the call involved a member of Cruz's family. The Texas Republican has two daughters.

Being related to a famous politician can come with plenty of baggage, especially if you're a child who didn't ask to be born to the father you have. Recently, one such political child, Ted Cruz's daughter Caroline Cruz, went viral in part thanks to a [2021] family Christmas card that suggested she was not having a very good time.

Maddie Jenkins, the daughter of a Dallas County judge, posted a viral video on TikTok in which she commented on how Ted Cruz's oldest daughter, Caroline, 13, looks absolutely miserable in their family Christmas card. The front of the card shows the whole family, including Ted's younger daughter, Catherine, and the inside shows Caroline and Catherine holding their pets. In both pictures, it looks like Caroline absolutely refused to smile.

Thanks in large part to the video, Caroline's TikTok gained a slew of new followers. Her account also gained steam because she responded to a question in the comments of Maddie's video asking her if she agreed with her ultra-conservative father politically, and she said "not usually."

In her first video after her explosion in followers, Caroline offered a list of pros and cons to being Ted's daughter, which included her reemphasizing that she disagrees with him on pretty much everything.

Caroline also explained that the Christmas card photos had been edited to make it look like the shirt she was wearing covered her torso when it was actually a crop top.

She also explained that she's bisexual, but she hasn't told her father yet because she's nervous. "I don’t think he would be mad about it,” she added.

Just hours after Caroline revealed that she was bisexual, Caroline's account suddenly became private. This sudden change in the account's status led many to believe that Caroline's father had discovered the account and ordered his daughter to make it private.

Caroline's openness on social media reminded many of Claudia Conway, who used social media to post about her parents Kellyanne and George, two conservatives who had totally opposed beliefs about Donald Trump. Claudia's posts went viral in the late stages of the Trump administration, and Ted likely wanted to avoid becoming central to a similar story.

The FBI is asking about two websites in connection with last month’s shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado that left five dead and 17 others injured, a former neighbor and friend of the suspect told NBC News.

The former neighbor, Xavier Kraus, said an FBI agent asked him about the two websites at an FBI field office in Colorado Springs last Thursday afternoon after an agent called him earlier that day.

One of the websites, Kraus said he told investigators, was created by Anderson Lee Aldrich, 22, who was charged Tuesday with 305 criminal counts, including first-degree murder and bias-motivated crimes, in the mass shooting at Club Q in Colorado Springs shortly before midnight on Nov. 19. Aldrich was subdued by three club patrons shortly after the shooting began and was then arrested by authorities.

The website allegedly created by Aldrich is a forum-type “free speech” site where people have anonymously posted racist and antisemitic memes, language and videos.

A video on the homepage titled “Wrong Targets” advocates for killing civilians as part of a larger effort to “assassinate the elites at the top” and “cleanse” society.

A link on the homepage that reads “Visit Our Brother Site!” directs to a webpage with links to four short videos, each uploaded in two different formats, that appear to have been posted in the hours leading up to the shooting.

Two of the videos show the inside of a Toyota at night; in one, the dashboard clock reads 11:44, and the person recording the video says “OK” before ending it. Local police began receiving 911 calls about a shooting at Club Q at 11:56 p.m.

The videos appear to have gone up from 9:28 p.m. to 11:43 p.m. local time on the night of the shooting. While it is unclear who recorded and posted the videos, one frame in the 11:44 video shows a reflection in the rearview mirror that resembles Aldrich.

The “brother site” previously hosted video of the mass shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, in May that left 10 people dead, according to an archive of the page that was viewed by NBC News. Links to the site were quickly shared on the extremist sites 4chan and 8kun (formerly 8chan) in the days after the shooting, where the site and video were discussed.

Public defenders representing Aldrich, who is being held without bond, didn’t immediately respond to NBC News’ request for comment.

A spokesperson for the FBI’s Denver field office said, “The Denver FBI Field Office, the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, National Security Division, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado are aware of the situation regarding the shooting in Colorado Springs at Club Q, and we will review all available facts of the incident to determine what federal response is warranted.” The Colorado Springs police department didn’t return a request for comment.

BERLIN — Special Forces in Germany have arrested 25 people suspected of supporting a domestic terrorist organization that planned to overthrow the government and form its own state, the federal prosecutor said on Wednesday.

In early-morning raids carried out across the country, some 3,000 police and Special Forces officers detained people believed to be members and supporters of the group, which prosecutors said had been formed in the past year and was operating on the conviction that “Germany is currently ruled by members of a so-called deep state” that needed to be overthrown. Prosecutors said that two other people had been arrested outside Germany, one in Austria and another in Italy.

Among those detained were a member of the far-right Alternative for Germany party who had served in the German Parliament, a member of the German nobility and a Russian citizen accused of supporting the group’s plans. Federal prosecutors said that they were investigating a total of 52 suspects.

The group’s plans included an armed attack on the German Parliament building, known as the Reichstag, the prosecutors said, and members had organized arms training and attempted to recruit personnel from the German security services. The prosecutors added that the group’s members had also formed a sort of shadow government that they intended to install if their plans were successful. It remains unclear, however, how close they were to acting on those ambitions.

The prosecutors described the group, which they did not identify, as being influenced by the ideologies of the conspiracy group QAnon and a right-wing German conspiracy group called the Reichsbürger, or Citizens of the Reich, which believes that Germany’s post-World War II republic is not a sovereign country but a corporation set up by the victorious Allies.

Many of those arrested had military training and included former German soldiers, including from the army of the former East Germany, and were known to have been heavily armed with weapons acquired illegally. The group was most likely formed in late 2021, the prosecutors said.

Its aim was “to overcome the existing state order in Germany and to establish its own form of state, the outlines of which have already been worked out,” the prosecutors said in the statement.

“The members of the organization were aware that this goal can only be achieved through the use of military means and violence against state representatives,” the statement added. “This also included commissioning killings.”

Among those arrested was a man who had tried to make contact with representatives of the Russian government over the plans, according to the statement, though there were no indications that they had received a positive response from the Russian sources they had contacted.

German news media widely identified the man as Prince Heinrich XIII of Reuss, a descendant of a former German royal family. The Reuss family has long distanced itself from Heinrich XIII because of his involvement in the Reichsbürger scene.

Another of those detained, identified by prosecutors as Birgit M.-W., was suspected of being appointed to head the justice arm of the group. German media identified her as Birgit Malsack-Winkemann, a judge in Berlin and member of Alternative for Germany. She served as member of Parliament from 2017 to 2021.

A Russian citizen, whom the prosecutors identified as “Vitalia B.,” was “strongly suspected” of supporting Heinrich XIII in trying to establish contacts with Moscow.

The group, which included people who had taken part in demonstrations against coronavirus lockdowns, was fueled by conspiracy theories, the authorities said.

According to the members of the group, liberation is promised by the imminent intervention of the “Alliance,” a technically superior secret coalition of governments, intelligence services and militaries of various states, including Russia and the United States, according to the prosecutors.

Germany’s intelligence services have for years said that the greatest threat to the country came from domestic, far-right extremist groups.

Right-wing extremists in 2019 killed a local politician in the German state of Hessen, and in the same year attempted to attack a synagogue.

Security analysts have warned about the potential for far-right groups to merge with pandemic anti-vaccine conspiracists. In 2020, far-right supporters, Q-Anon backers and anti-vaccine activists at a protest against coronavirus measures in Berlin attempted to storm the Reichstag.

The police say that they have also investigated several smaller suspected plots against state leaders in the past year.

In April, officers arrested four people who had been plotting to kidnap the health minister, Karl Lauterbach, and cause nationwide power outages. The police said that the suspects were linked to the Reichsbürger and anti-vaccine movements.

A fertility doctor, a chemist and a scientist-entrepreneur vowed today to press ahead with separate efforts to create the first cloned human being, despite warnings from leading experts that the experiments would inevitably lead to babies that are deformed, or die soon after birth.

"Be aware that this will be done," declared the chemist, Dr. Brigitte Boisselier, who directs a company in the Bahamas and is a member of a fringe religious sect, the Raelians, for whom human cloning is a goal.

The entrepreneur, Dr. Panayiotis Zavos, who runs laboratories in Kentucky, said, "The patients are willing to accept these risks." Drs. Boisselier and Zavos made their remarks at all-day symposium convened by the National Academy of Sciences, an independent research organization that has convened a panel of experts to study the science of cloning. They were joined by Dr. Severino Antinori, an Italian fertility specialist who gained notoriety in the mid-1990's by using in vitro fertilization to help a 62-year-old woman have a baby.

Because all three operate in secret, it is difficult to assess how serious they are or whether their assertions are realistic; of the three, only Dr. Boisselier hinted that she has attempted human cloning, but then stopped short of saying she had done so.

Nonetheless, scientists in attendance here were clearly disturbed by the trio's remarks.

"I think they are serious," said Dr. Alan Colman, director of PPL Therapeutics, a biotechnology company that collaborated in the creation of Dolly the sheep, the world's first and most famous clone of an adult mammal. "I think they will fail, but one of the problems about the fact that they do it all in private is that we won't hear about the failures."

The comments of the cloning proponents, coming just one week after the House of Representatives voted to ban cloning even for medical research, will undoubtedly inflame the debate over the wisdom of creating babies that are genetic replicas of adults. But while the House debate focused on the ethics and morality of cloning, today's discussion focused almost exclusively on science.

And the consensus among the panel and those who testified before it was that cloning people is simply not safe, given that the vast majority of attempts to clone animals end in failure, and that in the few efforts that succeed the resulting clones are plagued with genetic problems.

"We are seeing a great range of abnormalities," said Dr. Ian Wilmut, who as director of the Roslin Institute in Scotland led the effort to clone Dolly. He added: "We should expect a similar outcome if people attempt to produce a cloned human."

Germany arrests 25 accused of plotting coup

Twenty-five people have been arrested in raids across Germany on suspicion of plotting to overthrow the government.

The group of far-right and ex-military figures are said to have prepared for a "Day X" to storm the Reichstag parliament building and seize power.

A minor aristocrat named as Prince Heinrich XIII, 71, is alleged to have been central to their plans.

According to federal prosecutors, he is one of two alleged ringleaders among those arrested across 11 German states.

The plotters are said to include members of the extremist Reichsbürger [Citizens of the Reich] movement, which has long been in the sights of German police over violent attacks and racist conspiracy theories. They also refuse to recognise the modern German state.

Other suspects came from the QAnon movement who believe their country is in the hands of a mythical "deep state" involving secret powers pulling the political strings.

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser assured Germans that authorities would respond with the full force of the law "against the enemies of democracy".

Plotters prepared to kill for their ends

An estimated 50 men and women are alleged to have been part of the group, said to have plotted to overthrow the republic and replace it with a new state modelled on the Germany of 1871 - an empire called the Second Reich.

"We don't yet have a name for this group," said a spokeswoman for the federal prosecutor's office. The interior minister said it was apparently made up of an organisation "council" and a military arm.

Wednesday's dawn raids are being described as one of the biggest anti-extremism operations in modern German history. Three thousand officers took part in 150 operations in 11 of Germany's 16 states, with two people arrested in Austria and Italy.

Almost half of arrests took place in southern states of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria.

Justice Minister Marco Buschmann tweeted that a suspected "armed attack on constitutional bodies was planned". Ms Faeser said later that the investigation would peer into the "abyss of a terrorist threat from the Reichsbürger scene".

The federal prosecutor's office said the group had been plotting a violent coup since November 2021 and members of its central "Rat" (council) had since held regular meetings.

They had already established plans to rule Germany with departments covering health, justice and foreign affairs, the prosecutor said. Members understood they could only realise their goals by "military means and violence against state representatives", which included carrying out killings.

Investigators are thought to have got wind of the group when they uncovered a kidnap plot last April involving a gang who called themselves United Patriots.

They too were part of the Reichsbürger scene and had allegedly planned to abduct Health Minister Karl Lauterbach while also creating "civil war conditions" to bring about an end to Germany's democracy.

A former far-right AfD member of the lower house of parliament, the Bundestag, is suspected of being part of the plot, and of being lined up as the group's justice minister. Birgit Malsack-Winkemann, who was among the 25 people arrested, returned to her role as judge last year and a court has since turned down attempts to dislodge her.

The dying star's last few thousand years have produced the Helix Nebula (NGC 7293), a well studied and nearby example of a Planetary Nebula, typical of this final phase of stellar evolution. Combining narrow band image data from emission lines of hydrogen atoms in red and oxygen atoms in blue-green hues, it shows tantalizing details of the Helix, including its bright inner region about 3 light-years across. The white dot at the Helix's center is this Planetary Nebula's hot, central star. A simple looking nebula at first glance, the Helix is now understood to have a surprisingly complex geometry.

“We’re talking about smoking-gun proof of a CIA operation involving Lee Harvey Oswald,” Morley said.

Harry Dunn died following a collision outside RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire in 2019

A woman who killed a motorcyclist will not attend a sentencing hearing in person after advice from her employer, the United States government.

Anne Sacoolas, 45, admitted causing the death of Harry Dunn, 19, by careless driving via video-link at the Old Bailey in October.

She had been urged by judge Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb to return to the UK to face justice on Thursday.

But a renewed application for her to appear via video-link has been granted.

Sacoolas, a US citizen, was driving on the wrong side of the road near RAF Croughton, a US air base in Northamptonshire, when she crashed her Volvo and killed the motorcyclist in August 2019.

She had diplomatic immunity asserted on her behalf by the US administration following the collision, and left the UK 19 days later.

The US government advised Sacoolas not to attend her sentencing hearing at the Old Bailey on Thursday.

Confirming a renewed application for her to appear via video-link had been granted, an Old Bailey spokesman said: "The application made jointly by the prosecution and defence for Mrs Sacoolas to participate and be sentenced by live link, has been renewed.

"The defence have supplied material in support of the application including evidence that Mrs Sacoolas' government employer has advised her not to attend in person.

"The judge has granted the application."

Radd Seiger, spokesman for the Dunn family, said they were "horrified to learn that the United States government is now actively interfering in our criminal justice system".

"Harry's family are victims of a serious crime and they have been kept in the dark completely about what is to come at Thursday's hearing since Mrs Sacoolas's guilty plea," he said.

"Their ongoing cruel treatment of Harry's parents is nothing short of inhumane and it continues to take a heavy toll on their mental health.

"If there is a genuine reason why Mrs Sacoolas should not appear in court on Thursday, as directed by the judge, then the parents would happily accept that.

"But, on the face of it, it appears that this is nothing short of a cowardly act on the part of an oppressor."

Mr Seiger said he had asked for an urgent meeting with the Foreign Secretary James Cleverly to understand what action the British government would take.

Sacoolas has attended both previous court hearings via video-link from her lawyer's offices in Washington DC.

Adjourning sentencing at the previous hearing, Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb told Sacoolas that although she could not compel her to face justice in person, it would provide "weighty evidence" of "genuine remorse".

Data from the global network of US embassy spy posts implicated in the eavesdropping on Angela Merkel’s mobile phone is funnelled back to Washington through a secret hub in Northamptonshire,

Vast quantities of information captured by America’s “Stateroom” system of listening stations in diplomatic missions – including phone calls and data sent over wi-fi links – are routed back to spy chiefs via a communications hub within the US Air Force base in Croughton, near Milton Keynes.

The facility at RAF Croughton has been identified as a relay centre for CIA clandestine and agent communications. It has also now been named in documents leaked by the National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden as playing a key support role in embassy-based spying.

Documents seen by The Independent name the base as one of two centres for “tech support activity” by the Special Collection Service (SCS) – the joint CIA/NSA unit which runs the network of about 100 listening posts operated in parallel with an identical British scheme overseen by GCHQ.

An SCS intelligence “nest” on top of the US embassy in Berlin appears abruptly to have been shut down last week following the revelation that the NSA had targeted Mrs Merkel’s mobile and the subsequent diplomatic row over Washington’s surveillance in Germany. The rooftop US spying site lies less than 150 metres from a cylinder on the British embassy which is at the centre of concerns that Britain may also have been eavesdropping on communications in the German capital.

The Snowden documents and other US reports imply that any material gathered from the US embassy in Berlin would have been relayed back to SCS headquarters at the joint CIA/NSA facility in College Park, Maryland, via the secure facility at Croughton.

The siting of such a critical installation on British soil underlines the close integration of British and American intelligence activities.

Although GCHQ and the NSA are known to share the results of embassy interception, RAF Croughton also has a direct link to GCHQ’s Cheltenham headquarters which has been operating for more than 20 years. Under the legal framework for US military bases in Britain, each facility is under the supervision of a British military commander who must ensure that UK law is not breached. The Ministry of Defence last night declined to comment on the role played by the SCS relay station at RAF Croughton.

The Northamptonshire base is home to the 422nd Air Base Group, whose role includes processing at least a quarter of all US military communications in Europe. The base, which was originally used by the Americans in the 1950s to relay nuclear bomber communications, hit the headlines earlier this year when it emerged that British Telecom won a contract to supply a secure fibre-optic link between RAF Croughton and a US air base in Djibouti used to co-ordinate drone strikes over Yemen. The £14m contract raised suspicions that it could be used to relay instructions for drone attacks. The MoD insisted that USAF staff at RAF Croughton “neither fly nor control” any remotely piloted aircraft.

Eighty-one years ago today, Japanese forces attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The attack killed 2,335 military personnel and 68 civilians. It also damaged or destroyed 19 U.S. Navy ships, including 8 battleships. December 7, 1941, was, President Franklin Roosevelt stated, a “date that would live in infamy.” 

What will also live in infamy is that Roosevelt wanted the Japanese to attack the United States, so that he could achieve his objective of embroiling the United States in World War II.

Even since the attack on Pearl Harbor, there has been a running controversy over whether Roosevelt knew that the attack on Pearl was imminent and turned a blind eye to it. Regardless of how one comes out on that controversy, it is beyond any reasonable doubt that Roosevelt wanted the Japanese to attack the United States. Why, even some Roosevelt apologists praise him for this, arguing that he was a far-sighted statesman who saved America and the world from a Nazi takeover. 

FDR was a crafty politician, one who was a master of political intrigue and manipulation. When he was running for an unprecedented third term in 1940, he said, “And while I am talking to you, mothers and fathers, I give you one more assurance. I have said this before, but I shall say it again, and again and again. Your boys are not going to be sent into any foreign wars.”

Roosevelt was lying. In fact, he was doing everything he could to embroil the United States in the European war. 

When Roosevelt made that statement, he knew that he was playing to the overwhelming sentiment of the American people. Having experienced the disaster of World War I, Americans wanted no part of a second world war. Roosevelt knew that. He also knew that if he disclosed that he wanted the United States to get embroiled in the war, he stood a good chance of losing the election. To guarantee his reelection, he felt he had to lie.

Why didn’t Roosevelt simply send his army to attack Nazi Germany? After all, that’s what American presidents do today when they perceive a foreign threat. The answer is that this was still a period of time when U.S. presidents complied with the declaration-of-war requirement in the Constitution. It prohibits the president from waging war without first securing a declaration of war from Congress. 

Given the overwhelming anti-interventionist sentiment among the American people, FDR knew that he would never be able to get Congress to issue a declaration of war against Nazi Germany, unless Germany were to attack first. In that case, he knew that a congressional declaration of war would come easily.

FDR began his machinations by doing everything he could to provoke the Germans into attacking U.S. vessels in the Atlantic. In that way, he could exclaim, “We’ve been attacked! Now, give me my declaration of war!” But the Nazi regime knew what FDR was up to and refused to take the bait. 

That was when Roosevelt turned to the Pacific, in the hope that a Japanese attack on the United States would give him a “back door” to the war against Germany.

That’s what FDR’s oil embargo against Japan was all about. Japan had invaded China and was occupying the country. Its war machine necessarily depended on a continuous supply of oil. The purpose of FDR’s embargo was to prevent Japan from acquiring that badly needed oil.

FDR’s oil embargo was remarkably successful. It maneuvered Japan into a position of having to make a choice: Either invade the Dutch East Indies to secure its oil supplies or meekly withdraw its military forces from China. (As an aside, it’s worth mentioning that more recently, U.S. officials, operating through NATO, maneuvered Russia into having to make a similar choice: Either accept Ukraine’s membership in NATO, which would enable the Pentagon to station its nuclear missiles and troops along Russia’s border, or invade Ukraine to prevent that from happening.)

Not surprisingly, Japan decided to invade the Dutch East Indies rather than withdraw from China. But Japan knew that the invasion stood the risk of the U.S. Navy interfering with its operations in the Dutch East Indies. That was what the attack on Pearl Harbor was for — to knock out the U.S. Pacific fleet so that Japan would have a free hand in securing those oil supplies in the Dutch East Indies.

In other words, Japan never planned or intended to invade the United States, either at Pearl Harbor or at the U.S. West coast. They knew that they lacked the personnel, the logistics, and the supply lines necessary to undertake such a monumental endeavor. They knew that if they invaded the West coast, they would end up getting massacred. 

Thus, their aim in attacking Pearl Harbor was very limited. They just wanted to knock out the Pacific fleet so that it couldn’t interfere with their invasion and occupation of the Dutch East Indies. While they knocked out several battleships and other vessels at Pearl, what they didn’t know was that the wily Roosevelt had cannily removed his aircraft carriers before the attack. That action, along with having broken Japanese military codes, enabled U.S. Naval forces to later defeat the Japanese in the Pacific.

Immediately after the Japanese attack at Pearl, Nazi Germany declared war on the United States. The U.S. Congress naturally responded with a declaration of war against both Germany and Japan. The wily Roosevelt had gotten what he wanted — U.S. entry into World War II.

Kathy Hochul last month in the predominantly blue state of New York, announced on Wednesday that he’s holding off – for now – on running for Republican National Committee chair, in a direct challenge to current RNC chair Ronna McDaniel.

Zeldin, who’s been mulling an RNC chair bid for nearly a month, made his announcement on Twitter.

“RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel should not run for a 4th term. I won’t be running for RNC Chair at this time with McDaniel’s reelection pre-baked by design, but that doesn’t mean she should even be running again. It’s time the GOP elects new leadership! It’s time for fresh blood!” Zeldin wrote.

Zeldin’s decision comes as Republicans continue to lick their wounds from a disappointing showing in the midterm elections, having failed to win control of the Senate, securing only a razor-thin majority in the House of Representatives, and losing key governors races and control of a handful of state legislative chambers, in what was supposed to be a “Red Wave” election.

Too bad for the US. Zeldin would be a great candidate for the base of the party. He also had big backers in New York and across the country.

Ronna Romney McDaniel is a disaster having lost two of the biggest landslides in US history.

On Tuesday night, police responded to a call at Senator Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) home in response to a report of a stabbing or cutting incident.

According to KTRK, Houston Police Department (HPD) responded to a report of a 14-year-old with self-inflicted wounds. However, authorities were unable to confirm whether or not the teenager was a member of Cruz’s family.

Fox News Houston reporter, Matthew Seedorff, reported that HPD confirmed it was “not a family violence issue” and that “no criminal activity” was involved.

A spokesperson from Texas Senator Ted Cruz’s office released a statement, stating, “This is a family matter, and thankfully their daughter is okay. There were no serious injuries. The family requests that the media respect their daughter’s privacy at this time.”

The girl was taken to the hospital for treatment and there was no serious injuries.

US Approves Sale Of $3.75BN In M1 Abrams Tanks To Poland

On Tuesday the US State Department approved potential sale of M1A1 Abrams tanks along with associated ordinance and equipment for an estimated $3.75 billion, the US Department of Defense has announced.

Negotiations are likely ongoing, and a final contract has yet to be signed, but the impending deal appears to be in response to heightened Russian military action in Ukraine, particularly after the "close call" missile strike on Polish territory along the border, at the village of Przewodów on November 15.

That strike was initially widely blamed on Russian forces, as they were in the midst of a large-scale aerial attack on Ukrainian infrastructure at the time, but that later proved to be false. The Ukrainian government tried to use the incident, which actually was caused by an errant anti-air missile fired by Ukraine forces, to argue in favor of NATO Article 5 - potentially unleashing a WW3 scenario.

But Washington is now moving to bolster both the US troop presence in NATO-member Poland, which shares a lengthy border with Ukraine to its southeast, and defense equipment transferred to Polish armed forces.

The Pentagon is actually in the middle of a current build-up in Poland as part of 'Operation Atlantic Resolve' in response to the Ukraine war:

Eight hundred pieces of American military equipment, including cars and tanks, arrived in Poland over the weekend and were unloaded at the port of Gdynia.

As part of the Atlantic Resolve operation, the equipment and American soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division will be stationed in the country and Europe for the next nine months, after which they will be replaced with other soldiers, Polish News reports.

This is the 20th transhipment of American equipment carried out at the terminal, said the commercial director of the BCT terminal, Michał Kużajczyk. "Equipment transshipments have been taking place since 2018. So far, exports have been the most common, but now the equipment that will be used in Poland has arrived," he said.

As for the impending deal to sell $3.75 billion in M1A1 Abrams to Warsaw, Reuters has listed the below primary contractors involved in the negotiations, per a DOD notification...

The newly signed “DTA” is ostensibly aimed at helping the Ukrainian economy recover from its current malaise while also boosting both countries’ digital output. And guess what it includes? A provision for collaborating on digital identity. From a UK government press release:

“[T]there is a critical need for people to be able to use digital solutions to prove they are who they say they are, despite the loss of critical documentation or displacement across borders. The agreement provides a framework for the UK and Ukraine to cooperate to promote compatibility between their respective digital identity systems to help address this.”

While it is true that identifying citizens in the midst of war is both a challenging and vital task, digital identity is an area in which Ukraine already excels. In fact, as the digital rights group Reclaim the Net notes, it has a great deal to teach the UK on the matter:

Ukraine’s highly-sophisticated digital ID, Diia, is used to grant the public access to most government services online. It has nine digital credentials: the ID card, the identity provider (IDP) certificate for network access, birth certificate, passport, driving license, tax number, student card, and vehicle registration certificate.

Report: State of Massachusetts takes children at 1 a.m. without warrant after baselessly claiming they were in danger

Parents Sarah Perkins and Josh Sabey took their 14-week-old child to the emergency room just after 2 a.m. last July, concerned about a fever. However, what followed was a series of inspections that would eventually lead to child protective services taking custody of the small child in the middle of the night, a Washington Post investigation reveals.

During their hospital visit, the boy underwent an X-ray for a possible lung infection. A healed fracture on the rib cage of the baby was found, a symptom that is consistent with either blunt force trauma or “someone squeezing the child too tight," according to the physician consulted in this case. It was determined that the injury was a result of "nonaccidental trauma," and the couple was then suspected of child abuse. A social worker immediately questioned the parents at the hospital.

In the coming days, additional questioning from social workers occurred with the parents, as well as the 3-year-old sibling of the infant. The children were subject to further medical examinations, their home inspected, yet no further evidence of abuse was found.

The same week, the family was sent home from the hospital with a safety plan, approved by the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families, with a case worker following up the very next day. However, later that night, around 1 a.m., three Waltham, Mass., police officers and two emergency response workers arrived at their residence to take custody of the two children.

The parents argued with police for an hour after being told there was "new information" that led authorities to believe the children were in imminent danger. The parents allegedly raised concerns about food allergies and breastfeeding, to which they were reportedly told by the state agents "our food plan is to call the pediatrician in the morning, and we’ll figure it out from there."

The parents appear to have conducted themselves calmly in their video recording of the event, provided in the report below:

Freedom Caucus Vice Chair Jim Jordan is parroting the doomsday scenario that McCarthy and company are using to blackmail conservatives into supporting his campaign for speaker.

House Freedom Caucus Vice Chairman, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) parroted Kevin McCarthy’s talking points during a recent interview with Breitbart, saying that he’s “concerned” that RINOs and Democrats will join forces to install a speaker of their own if conservatives don’t fall in line behind FTX-funded McCarthy.

“I’m very, I’m concerned about that. I don’t think it’s likely, but I am concerned about it,” Rep. Jim Jordan told Breitbart’s Matt Boyle in a Saturday interview, parroting Kevin McCarthy’s talking points around the Speaker of the House race.

McCarthy, who’s already dubbed himself “speaker-elect” despite not having the 218 votes he needs to take the gavel, plus his supporters, have spent the weeks following the “Pink Trickle” midterms of 2022, cooking up scenarios in which McCarthy gets to cling to his power, and be elected Speaker of the House on January 3rd.

This is despite massive opposition from conservatives, like Freedom Caucus Rep. Andy Biggs, who’s officially announced a challenge to McCarthy’s speakership campaign.

Oddly, considering Kevin McCarthy’s name is synonymous with the GOP establishment for millions of conservative voters, Jim Jordan and Breitbart News acted like he’s an outsider, during their Saturday interview, and in the headline that spun off it.

“Jim Jordan ‘Concerned’ By Threat Of Democrats, Moderate Republicans Electing Establishment Speaker,” Breitbart’s headline reads.

Oddly, the headline denotes that Kevin McCarthy isn’t a member of the GOP establishment, despite his long run in GOP leadership, during which he’s cozied up to Big Tech with the likes of deposed RINOs Eric Cantor and Paul Ryan.

This year, McCarthy used FTX mega-donor money to crush America First conservatives in the 2022 midterms, before the multi-billion dollar crypto exchange was found to be a massive fraud, with suspected links to Ukrainian money laundering and political oligarchs the world over.

Not only did McCarthy’s sabotage operation protect RINO incumbents, but it handed seats over to Democrats on a silver platter, in a naked effort to avoid too much conservative influence in the new Congress, which would stymy McCarthy’s speakership bid, and his “Pelosi-lite” legislative agenda.

Mongolians Protest At State Palace After Government Officials Allegedly Steal Billions In Coal, Sell It To China

Mongolian protesters reportedly attempted to storm their capitol building Tuesday, demanding the resignation of government officials they say are involved in the alleged theft of billions of dollars in coal.

The protesters reportedly tried to break into the State Palace in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, ostensibly upset about the 385,000 tons of coal allegedly stolen from Mongolia’s border with China. The protesters, mostly college students and some in their 20s and 30s, sang, chanted and picketed outside the building, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

“If you don’t love your country, why be a citizen?” one protester’s sign read, according to the outlet. “If the citizens rise up, the feast is over!” another protester reportedly wrote.

A Foreign Ministry spokesperson in Bejing said she had no knowledge of the “specific situation,” according to the New York Post.

“China is a friendly neighbor of Mongolia, and we believe the Mongolian government will properly handle and investigate the matter. The competent Chinese authority will provide necessary assistance as requested by the Mongolian side in accordance with laws and regulations,” Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said, according to the outlet.

Here’s How The CDC Used A Backchannel With Twitter To Control The COVID-19 Narrative

Twitter set up a portal for government officials and “stakeholders” to submit posts that allegedly contained COVID-19 misinformation for Twitter to review, according to documents released by America First Legal (AFL) on Tuesday.

Twitter officials used the portal to track online posts for review, and invited Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officials to enroll, according to documents AFL obtained through its litigation against the CDC. Twitter’s Todd O’Boyle enrolled the CDC’s Carol Crawford in the portal in May 2021 after she sent an email labeled “COVID Misinformation” with links to several Twitter posts who wrote about microchips and “vaccine shedding.” O’Boyle described the channel as “the best way to get a spreadsheet like this reviewed.”

O’Boyle wrote in his response that he agreed that her submissions were “important trends to note” and assured her Twitter would review them.

On Sept. 2, Crawford emailed O’Boyle that a CDC “Lab alert” regarding PCR testing was allegedly “misinterpreted and was shared via social media.” Crawford then flagged the hashtag “pcrtest” to be monitored.

Crawford also asked for Census Department officials to be able to use the Twitter portal to flag COVID-19 misinformation, according to the documents.

“Also, would there be any issues or complications stemming from flagging COVID misinformation on the portal using the existing census.gov accounts that have access?” Crawford wrote May 24.

“In recent months, millions of Americans have witnessed the peeling of the ‘misinformation’ onion. Beneath each layer of shocking details about a partnership between the federal government and Big Tech is yet another layer of connections, conspiracy, and collaboration between power centers that seek to suppress information from the American people,” Gene Hamilton, America First Legal vice-president and general counsel, said in Tuesday’s press release. “We are proud to play a leading role in fighting for the rights of all Americans and revealing this vital information to the American people.”
