As Shepherd and Successor of the Apostles, I am unable not to condemn with the greatest force Paglia’s scandalous words, which contradict the Gospel and the teaching of the Roman Pontiffs.

Italy revealed to be secret NATO buyer of Israeli spy planes

Approximately $550 million worth of contracts between Italy and "Israel" Aerospace Industries (IAI) have been completed for the supply of two more early warning spy planes as well as support and ground logistics services for the Italian air force.

The transactions raise the total number of special mission aircraft that IAI will have sold to the Italians to four, as shown in publicly available records from the Italian Defense Ministry and the nation's parliament.

IAI said in July of this year that it had been given a contract worth more than $200 million to supply special purpose aircraft to a European NATO member state, however it did not specify which state.

The Italian air force is also the customer in another sizable transaction IAI announced in 2020, despite IAI's continued refusal to "share the name of its customers," according to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

The ELTA subsidiary of IAI builds a variety of special mission aircraft, many of which are based on executive jets that have had military systems added to them. These include SIGINT aircraft for electronic and communication intelligence gathering and electronic warfare - to jam enemy radar and communications systems - as well as CAEW aircraft which provide airborne early warning and control as well as electronic intelligence capabilities. They also include Maritime patrol aircraft to track ships and submarines.

The Italian Defense Ministry announced in 2021 that it intended to buy two new CAEW espionage planes from ELTA. It is based on a modified Gulfstream G550 commercial aircraft that is used for air control and early warning missions. It is comparable to the Israeli Air Force's Nachshon Eitam aircraft.

Israeli Security Ministry Director-General Amir Eshel met with Italian Defense Ministry Director-General Luciano Portolano in Rome last month, "Tel Aviv" said Tuesday.

The two officials met for talks meant to bolster cooperation within the security industry between the two governemtns, the Israeli ministry said.

A spokesman for the Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), Shi Yi, said on Sunday that the Chinese armed forces are on high alert to halt any provocations after the US Navy cruisers went through the Taiwan Strait.

"The US Navy cruisers Chancellorsville and Antietam made the passage through the Taiwan Strait on August 28, causing widespread attention. The PLA Eastern Theater Command escorted the US cruisers and exercised full control over their activities. Command units are on heightened alert to stop any provocations in a timely manner," the spokesman said in a statement on WeChat.

In a statement, the US Navy claimed that the transit "demonstrates the United States' commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific."

US pokes China with provocative visits to Taiwan

Moreover, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Friday that China strongly opposes a US lawmaker's visit to Taiwan.

Deal between Serbia and Kosovo reached

Serbia and Kosovo reached an agreement on "freedom of movement" following weeks of tensions, the EU's top diplomat Josep Borrell said on Saturday. He announced the deal between Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Kosovo's prime minister Albin Kurti.

In a statement following their meeting last week in Brussels and "intense follow-up efforts in Pristina and Belgrade," Borrell revealed that Serbia and Kosovo both agreed to forgo the introduction of entrance and exit documents for holders of Kosovo IDs.

Both Serbs and Kosovo residents living in the northern part of the breakaway province will be able to freely move between Serbia and Kosovo using their existing ID cards, said the statement, adding that the EU had "received guarantees from Prime Minister Kurti."

Borrell then praised the development by saying that “we found a European solution that facilitates travel between Kosovo and Serbia.” He also lauded Vucic’s actions by saying that the Serbian president “showed responsibility and leadership today.” The senior EU diplomat also thanked the US “for their support to the EU-facilitated dialogue,” calling it “an example of excellent practical EU-US cooperation.”

He admitted that “the problem with the license plates” had not yet been resolved and called on the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo to “continue showing pragmatism and constructiveness” in this regard as well. Still, he said that “today is a very good day.”

Yet Belgrade didn't seem to be feeling as happy as Brussels. Vucic described the negotiations with "Albanians from Kosovo" as "very unsuccessful, terribly difficult," adding that "in the end we came to the point that we do not agree on anything." Vucic was speaking to Serbian citizens on Saturday.

Mutual recognition is off the table

The Serbian leader insisted that “mutual recognition” will never be on the agenda as Belgrade “cannot forget that Kosovo is part of Serbia.” He also said that officials in Brussels are wasting their time and money if they think they would be able to facilitate such an agreement.

When it comes to travel, Vucic did confirm that Serbia will recognize the IDs from Kosovo, but only "for practical reasons" in order to "enable freedom of movement". This action "cannot be interpreted as recognition of Kosovo's unilateral proclamation of independence, nor does it prejudice sovereignty," he continued.

What is important is that “Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija can move and enter and leave the territory of Kosovo and Metohija freely,” Vucic said, adding that Belgrade is asking “for guarantees from EU, we ask that every Serb from the north of Kosovo and Metohija can enter the territory of Kosovo and Metohija with Serbian documents, and that they can leave whenever they want.”

The news broke a day after Gabriel Escobar, the US envoy for the Balkans, urged Serbia to recognize Kosovo and offered the two countries prosperity in the EU as a substitute. In response, Vucic stated that he was not shocked to get such a request from a US envoy.

“Don’t forget that he represents American politics. What do you expect from him, what news is this for you?!” the Serbian president said on Saturday, adding that “they [the US] tell us this for 23 years!”

Mossad chief to meet US officials on Iranian nuclear deal in September

The head of "Israel's" Mossad spy agency, David Barnea, will visit the United States in early September for talks on the possible revival of the Iran nuclear deal, an official confirmed Sunday.

The announced visit is the latest in the Israeli occupation's attempts to sway Western powers from an agreement to return to the landmark 2015 deal with Tehran.

Mossad chief David Barnea will "be visiting Washington in a week to participate in closed door meetings in Congress on the Iran deal," a senior Israeli official told AFP on condition of anonymity, without providing further details.

According to the Times of Israel, "Barnea will be the third senior Israeli official to visit Washington in recent days to discuss the Iran deal," after Security Minister Benny Gantz and National Security Advisor Eyal Hulata.

Last Thursday, Barnea told reporters that the Iranian nuclear deal was “very bad for Israel” and “based on lies."

Following the remarks, Israeli media reported Thursday that Lapid's office was surprised by Barnea's criticism of US President Joe Biden's administration and demanded clarification.

According to the Israeli news website Walla!, Barnea is the side pushing for the most extreme line on the Iranian nuclear deal within the Israeli occupation government.

Lapid: This is not what Biden signed in "Jerusalem Declaration"

Earlier Sunday, Israeli occupation Prime Minister Yair Lapid told journalists in a briefing at his office in occupied Al-Quds that "Israel's" diplomatic fight against the nuclear deal included its National Security Advisor and Security Minister holding recent meetings in the United States.

"We are making a concerted effort to ensure the Americans and Europeans understand the dangers involved in this agreement," Lapid said.

According to the Israeli occupation Prime Minister, "This agreement is a bad one. It was not good when it was signed in 2015. Today the dangers inherent in it are even greater. It is closer to its end date, and Iran is in a different place technologically,"

"This is not what [Biden] talked about during his visit to Israel, this is not what he signed in the Jerusalem Declaration,” Lapid told reporters.

According to Lapid, a new agreement would have to include an expiration date and tighter supervision that would also "address Iran's ballistic missile program" and its alleged "involvement in terrorism throughout the Middle East."

"We can reach such an agreement if a credible military threat is put on the table, if the Iranians realise that their defiance and deceit will exact a heavy price," Lapid claimed, adding that the Israeli occupation army and Mossad had "received instructions from us to prepare for any scenario."

He claimed that this threat is "what forced the Iranians to sign last time."

“We must not get to the situation we were in 2015. To this day, we are paying for the damage caused by Netanyahu’s speech in Congress, following which the US administration ended its dialogue with us and did not allow Israel to make amendments to the agreement,” Lapid indicated.

The Times of Israel cited a source close to the matter as saying that the Israeli occupation is pressing Washington to issue such a threat.

"A credible military threat is what we think will lead to a good deal. This is the language that Iran understands," the Israeli news website quoted a senior Israeli government official as saying.

The Director of the US National Intelligence, Avril Haines, told lawmakers in a letter sent Friday that intelligence officials plan to evaluate the natural security risks of the top secret documents obtained at former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence, Axios reported.

On Friday, the US Department of Justice released a redacted version of the affidavit that led to the FBI's raid on Trump's residence on August 8.

The unsealed document revealed that the boxes obtained at Trump's residence at Mar-a-Lago had a mix of confidential, secret, and top secret documents.

According to Politico, Haines said in a letter to House Oversight Committee Chair Carolyn Maloney and House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff that her office plans to investigate "the potential risk to national security that would result from the disclosure of the relevant documents."

"The Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) are working together to facilitate a classification review of relevant materials, including those recovered during the search," Haines wrote in her letter, reported Politico.

The Director of National Intelligence mentioned in the letter that the investigation will "not unduly interfere with DOJ’s ongoing criminal investigation."

In a statement sent to Axios, Maloney and Schiff indicated that "We are pleased that in response to our inquiry, Director Haines has confirmed that the Intelligence Community and Department of Justice are assessing the damage caused by the improper storage of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago."

"The DOJ affidavit, partially unsealed yesterday, affirms our grave concern that among the documents stored at Mar-a-Lago were those that could endanger human sources. It is critical that the IC move swiftly to assess and, if necessary, to mitigate the damage done — a process that should proceed in parallel with DOJ’s criminal investigation,” said Maloney and Schiff.

The affidavit released on Friday revealed the contents of 14 of the 15 boxes recovered by the National Archives and Record Administration in January.

According to Axios, "The boxes contained 184 documents, 67 of which were confidential, 92 marked as secret, and 25 marked as top secret."

The US Department of Justice pointed out in the affidavit that "there is probable cause to believe that additional documents that contain classified NDI [national defense information] or that are Presidential records subject to record retention requirements currently remain at the PREMISES."

Trump sues FBI over Mar-a-Lago raid

It is noteworthy that Trump is taking the US government to court over the FBI's raid and search of his Mar-a-Lago estate.

Trump aims to initiate this bid to stop the federal agency from delving into the material seized from him until a special court official can be appointed to review the documents in question.

"The suit argues that the court should appoint a special master – usually a retired lawyer or judge – because the FBI potentially seized privileged materials in its search and the Department of Justice (DoJ) should not itself decide what it can use in its investigation," Trump's lead attorney told The Guardian on Saturday regarding the suit issued on Monday.

Trump is facing a criminal investigation over potential violations of the Espionage Act and additional statutes relating to obstruction of justice, as well as the destruction of federal government records, according to the search warrant executed by FBI agents at the former President's home.

The violation of the Espionage Act has a possible punishment of 10 years in federal prison, the statute for obstruction carries a maximum sentence of 20 years, and the statute for the destruction of records carries a potential lifetime ban on holding public office.

Fears over security vulnerabilities during and after Donald Trump's presidency have increased as US authorities look into the entrance of a second foreign national to Mar-a-Lago, his Florida club, which is the focus of an FBI investigation into missing confidential materials.

An article from the Organized Crime & Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) claims that a Ukrainian woman who entered the private members club under false pretenses and pretended to be a member of the Rothschild banking dynasty is currently being investigated by the bureau.

At Mar-a-Lago functions, Inna Yashchyshyn allegedly pretended to be a Rothschild heiress while mingling with Donald Trump, US Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, and other guests.

According to the Pittsburgh Gazette and OCCRP, Yashchyshyn had shown "how easily someone with a phony identity and dark history" could slip past Trump's club security.

The daughter of an Illinois truck driver, Yashchyshyn claimed to be a Rothschild heiress while serving as president of United Hearts of Mercy, which was established in Canada in 2015 by Russian businessman Valery Tarasenko of Florida.

The FBI secured a search warrant for Mar-a-Lago earlier this month as part of a criminal investigation into the improper retention of government secrets by Trump and his advisers, who refused to surrender the allegedly mishandled documents despite repeated demands.

This major security blunder brought to the minds of many a unique occurrence during Trump's presidency: A guest who took a photo of Trump and then-Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe then took a selfie with a military aide holding the black leather satchel known as "the football," which contained the nuclear strike codes.

“It’s unheard of,” a deputy national security adviser to Joe Biden in the Barack Obama administration said at the time. “These people operate behind the scenes. I don’t think this team has any appreciation about the vulnerabilities they are creating for themselves and how dangerous this is.”

At the time, Sean Spicer, the press secretary for the Trump administration, stated that no classified material was discussed and that the leaders' discussions were instead centered on the details of the press conferences they would be giving.

A heavily redacted affidavit describing the search's justification provided new information about the FBI's search of Mar-a-Lago was released on Friday. It described how agents thought the former president's home might contain highly confidential information about the nation's defense as well as proof of obstruction of justice.

The letter explained how the FBI discovered that Trump had stored classified government information at Mar-a-Lago after reviewing materials he had returned to the National Archives in May 2022.

The Prisoners Authority published horrific pictures of prisoner Khalil Awawdeh, who has been on hunger strike for 6 months now.

His wife and father took pictures of him today, exposing the truth of an ongoing “immoral and inhuman crime against him by the occupation prisons administration, and the Israeli intelligence service that insist on killing him," even if slowly, according to a statement by the Prisoners Authority.

Today, the Prisoners Information Office announced that Awawdeh is continuing his open hunger strike for the 166th day, amid critical health conditions.

Awawdeh’s lawyer, Ahlam Haddad, said 3 days ago that he could die at any moment.

In March, Awawdeh began an open-ended hunger strike to demand his release, knowing that he was arbitrarily arrested as per the Israeli occupation's arbitrary administrative detention policy, and his lawyer said he has only been only drinking water since.

For their part, Egyptian mediators recently called for the release of Awawdeh under a ceasefire agreement that ended the recent 3-day Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.

The freedom of Awawdeh was one of the clauses of the agreement between Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) and the Israeli occupation after several days of Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, killing dozens of Palestinian civilians and wounding hundreds of others.

The head of the political department in the Islamic Jihad Movement, Muhammad Al-Hindi, said on August 7 that "a formula for the Egyptian declaration of the truce agreement has been reached, and it includes Egypt's commitment to work for the release of the two prisoners, Khalil Awawdeh and Bassam Al-Saadi."

British households may need to pay $1,057 more for energy subsidies

Britain may have to spend $27 billion more in subsidies if they are going to cover the surging energy bills in the upcoming heating season, according to a report by The Guardian on Wednesday, citing a research paper published by the Institute for Government (IfG).

This statement would entail every British household paying £900 ($1,057.45) more this winter compared to May's estimate.

At this rate, according to the IfG, it is estimated that the subsidies will be jumping to £90 billion ($106 billion) next season.

“Energy prices have risen sharply again in recent weeks and are now expected to stay higher for longer than previously expected. Deciding whether and how to help households and businesses with these costs will be one of the most urgent tasks facing the new government,” Olly Bartrum, an analyst involved in the report, said.

Bartrum noted that the current situation would entail "substantial extra spending" as “even limiting help to the most vulnerable could cost several billion pounds.”

“The government should also do more to encourage greater energy efficiency and reform energy markets to reduce vulnerability to high energy prices if it wants to avoid further expensive support packages in a future likely to be defined by highly volatile energy prices,” Bartrum concluded.

NEW YORK | August 23, 2022—The Social Science Research Council (SSRC) announced it will provide an initial USD 7.2 million in direct research funds to 12 teams working in 17 countries in order to better understand how health mis- and disinformation spreads, how to combat it, and how to build stronger information systems, while increasing Covid-19 vaccination rates. Through the Mercury Project—enabled by The Rockefeller Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Craig Newmark Philanthropies, and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation with a total of USD 10.25 million so far—the SSRC is supporting a first cohort of social and behavioral scientists from around the world to generate much-needed new research on locally tailored solutions in Bolivia, Brazil, Côte D’Ivoire, Ghana, Haiti, India, Kenya, Malawi, Mexico, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, United States, and Zimbabwe.

Following the characterization of inaccurate health information by the U.S. Surgeon General as an “urgent threat,” and by the World Health Organization as an “infodemic,” the SSRC issued a call for proposals to counter the growing global threats posed by public health mis- and disinformation and low Covid-19 vaccination rates, and received nearly 200 submissions from around the world.

“With Covid-19 prevalent and rapidly evolving everywhere, there is a pressing need to identify interventions with the potential to increase vaccination take-up. Vaccines are only effective if they become vaccinations; vaccines are a scientific marvel but their potential is unfulfilled if they are left on the shelf,” said Anna Harvey, President of SSRC. “The large volume of high-quality proposals submitted to the Mercury Project underscores just how eager the social and behavioral science community is to evaluate interventions to increase vaccination demand and build healthier information environments.”

President Joe Biden joked about his low approval rating with NBC's Jimmy Fallon on Friday night and also criticized the QAnon conspiracy and former President Donald Trump's "Big Lie," saying they have made political discourse "awful hard."

The president made his first appearance on late night TV since coming to office in January with a virtual interview where he touched on a range of subjects, including inflation and his own approval rating.

Fallon asked the president about his approval in recent polling. Biden's approval has been underwater since August 30—the day before the final withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan—and stood at just 43 percent on December 10, according to analysis from poll tracker 538.

....."We used to have an awful lot of that relationship and it still exists except that the QAnon and the extreme elements of the Republican Party and what Donald Trump keeps sort of—seems to me—feeding, you know, with the Big Lie. It makes it awful hard," Biden went on.

Biden was referring to Trump's repeated claims of unsubstantiated voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election and the QAnon conspiracy which posits, among other claims, that Trump was fighting an international cabal of Satanic pedophiles.

President Donald Trump said Monday that retiring Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford was an influence on his decision to run for the White House.

At the swearing-in ceremony for incoming chairman Army Gen. Mark Milley, Trump recalled a Marine Corps event in 2015 at which he was receiving an award and sat at a table with Dunford.

Trump was apparently referring to a 2015 dinner of the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation, which provides educational assistance to the children of fallen Marines and federal law enforcement officers, at which Trump and others received awards.

At the dinner, Trump said he was "asking Joe lots of questions about the military" and, during the course of that conversation, said he was mulling running for president.

Trump said he told Dunford: "I don't know. What do you think? Should I give it a shot?"

He didn't say whether Dunford encouraged him, but added that "he helped me form an opinion, he gave me lots of information" on the workings of the military and the duties of the commander-in-chief.

Trump went on to lavish praise on Dunford's career in service. "He's like central casting" in the role of a general, he said of Dunford.

The FBI said that it “routinely notifies” private sector entities, including social media companies, of information related to potential threats after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Facebook limited the distribution of a controversial story leading up to the 2020 presidential election because of an FBI warning.

The statement followed Zuckerberg’s appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast on Thursday in which Zuckerberg said Facebook limited stories on the news feed related to the New York Post’s article about President Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and his laptop after the FBI warned the company to be aware of potentially polarizing content.

Russia used social media platforms like Facebook to post intentionally polarizing content ahead of the 2016 election.

“The FBI has provided companies with foreign threat indicators to help them protect their platforms and customers from abuse by foreign malign influence actors,” the agency said in a statement.

The FBI said that it works with federal, state, local and private sector partners to keep the public informed of potential threats, but it cannot request or order companies to take any action based on the information it provides.

Meta tweeted after the podcast episode was posted online that Zuckerberg has shared this information publicly before when he testified to the Senate almost two years ago that the FBI warned Facebook about potential foreign threats.

The Post’s story on Hunter Biden reported that the FBI allegedly obtained a laptop belonging to him that may contain information related to a federal investigation into him.

Former President Trump and some conservative allies have said the report showed evidence that Hunter Biden was involved in questionable and potentially illegal business dealings while his father served as vice president.

Some of the emails on the laptop have been confirmed to be authentic, but no charges have been brought and no demonstrable wrongdoing from the president or his son has been confirmed.

A Meta spokesperson pointed to a USA Today story that reported on Zuckerberg telling Congress the FBI did not mention the Hunter Biden story to Facebook.

Many conservatives have criticized the FBI recently over its search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago property, and some have called for defunding the agency.

Ukraine has not forgotten any of its cities, the president says

President Vladimir Zelensky said in his daily evening address on Sunday that Ukraine will recapture Donbass, which is now almost fully seized by Russian forces.

“We have not forgotten and will not forget any of our cities and any of our people,” he said.

“Now Donbass is almost destroyed by Russian strikes, devastated. The proud and glorious Ukrainian Donetsk was humiliated by the Russian occupation and robbed. But Ukraine will return. For sure. Life will return. The dignity of the people of Donbass will return. The ability to live will return. The opportunity to live safely and happily,” Zelensky added.

According to him, this is what the Ukrainian flag will symbolize “when we set it up in Donetsk, Gorlovka, Mariupol, in all cities of Donbass, Azov area, in all areas under Russian occupation – in Kharkov, Zaporozhye, Kherson regions. And definitely in Crimea.”

“Ukraine remembers everything,” he concluded.

The US may be helping Ukraine prepare for an impending counteroffensive against Russia, The Washington Post claimed in a piece published this week, pointing to the type of weaponry making up the latest batch of military aid pledged to Kiev by the Pentagon. Last month, a number of top Ukrainian officials suggested that the country’s military would launch a counteroffensive in the south of the country in August to retake the city of Kherson.

Russia sent troops into Ukraine on February 24, citing Kiev’s failure to implement the Minsk agreements, designed to give the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk special status within the Ukrainian state. The protocols, brokered by Germany and France, were first signed in 2014. Former Ukrainian president Pyotr Poroshenko has since admitted that Kiev’s main goal was to use the ceasefire to buy time and “create powerful armed forces.”

In February 2022, the Kremlin recognized the Donbass republics as independent states and demanded that Ukraine officially declare itself a neutral country that will never join any Western military bloc. Kiev insists the Russian offensive was completely unprovoked.

VIRGINIA: "Governor Glenn Youngkin vowed to block all efforts to ban gas-powered vehicles in Virginia. His declaration comes after California’s Air Resources Board voted Thursday to implement an executive order by Gov. Gavin Newsom that phases out gas-powered vehicles and bans the sale of them beginning in 2035. Virginia passed a law in 2021 that set the Commonwealth on a path to adopt California’s emissions standards.

“In an effort to turn Virginia into California, liberal politicians who previously ran our government sold Virginia out by subjecting Virginia drivers to California vehicle laws,” Youngkin wrote in a statement posted to Twitter. “Now, under that pact, Virginians will be forced to adopt the California law that prohibits the sale of gas and diesel-fueled vehicles. While Republicans have control in Virginia’s House of Delegates, Democrats control the state Senate by one vote, posing a hurdle to the plans of Youngkin and his GOP allies in the legislature.

We thank the Subcommittee for its work, which required extensive fact gathering and analysis over a short period of time.

“In accordance with the HSAC’s prior recommendation, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas has terminated the Disinformation Governance Board and rescinded its charter effective today, August 24, 2022.

“With the HSAC recommendations as a guide, the Department will continue to address threat streams that undermine the security of our country consistent with the law, while upholding the privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties of the American people and promoting transparency in our work.”

Secret police guidance has been discovered urging officers to treat journalists akin to criminals and ‘extremist groups’.

The alarming advice has been condemned by newspaper groups who fear it will undermine police-press relations and hinder the public’s right to know about crimes and how they are investigated.

The College of Policing, the umbrella group providing guidance for the forces of England and Wales, advises that officers must declare whether they have friendships or associations with people such as criminals.

While this advice is public, it has emerged that a secret annex listing the types of associations that must be declared includes journalists.

Earlier this year, HM Inspectorate of Constabulary recommended police officers disclose associations with ‘journalists and extremist groups’.

After complaints about lumping these two together as if they were equal, the inspectorate apologised and agreed to change the wording.

A formal complaint has been made to the College of Policing by the Society of Editors and the Crime Reporters Association. Rebecca Camber, who is chairman of the CRA and the Daily Mail’s crime and security editor, said: ‘This national guidance equates the profession of journalism with criminals, extremists, suspects and sex workers.

Texas Crypto Miners Ask To Use As Much Power As All Of New York State

Texas officials have been urging crypto currency-miners to move their operations to the Lone Star State. The campaign is working so well that applications for power hook-ups are piling up to a level far above what state power authorities estimated just four months ago.

According to a new report from Bloomberg, miners have asked the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to use up to 33 gigawatts of electricity over the next decade, a draw that's a third larger than what ERCOT's CEO estimated in April. To put that in perspective, 33 gigawatts would be enough to power all of New York state.

After suffering through disastrous power outages that factored into a 246-person death toll during a bitterly cold storm in Feb 2021, Texans couldn't be blamed for wringing their hands a little over the prospect of miners seeking so much energy.

An ERCOT spokeswoman assured Bloomberg that the organization expects to have sufficient output to meet surging demand. The stakes are high: Unlike other states that can lean on neighbors in times of stress, Texas operates its own, independent electric grid that makes most of the state an electricity island unto itself.

The Texas campaign to woo crypto miners has centered on the state's friendlier regulatory climate, cheap electricity and substantial renewable-energy sources. Per kilowatt-hour, commercial customers pay about a third less than the national average.

"It also has more wind power than any other state, which is appealing to miners pushing to appear more environmentally friendly," write's Bloomberg's Naureen S Malik.

Miners claim they're ideal power customers, ready to devour excess wind and solar energy when it's abundant, but also flexible enough to shut down when the grid is under strain.

That flexibility can pay off big: In July, Riot Blockchain collected a stunning $9.5 million in credits for shutting down its Texas mining rigs as the state faced a historic heat wave and energy was at a premium.

"By reducing power consumption by 21% last month, Riot got ERCOT to pay 100% of its electricity bill. So even though the company created fewer bitcoins in July, the company made about $7 million more than it would have if it had not curtailed its operations," reported the Houston Chronicle.

No wonder crypto miners are rushing to Texas.

Republican lawmakers decried Tuesday’s acquittal of former Hillary Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussmann by a federal jury Tuesday, with one GOP senator calling it “proof there are separate systems of justice in America.”

Sussmann was found not guilty of a single count of lying to the FBI when he passed the bureau now-discredited information in 2016 linking then-candidate Donald Trump and Russia. The jury in the two-week trial was drawn from heavily Democratic Washington, DC, and the judge in the case was appointed to the federal bench by President Barack Obama.

“I’m shocked the DC Clinton donor jury let Clinton’s lawyer off…HAHAHA just kidding, absolutely no one is shocked,” tweeted former first son Donald Trump Jr. “Hunter Biden off next then Paul Pelosi etc etc. We all know how this goes by now…Only people not tied to the establishment DC swamp ever face accountability.”

Echoing Trump Jr.’s language, the official Twitter account of the House Judiciary GOP posted: “The Swamp always protects its own.”

“Further proof there are separate systems of justice in America – one for liberal Democrats and their elite backers, and one for everyone else. Sad,” tweeted Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.).

Sen Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) also joined the criticism, saying, “Michael Sussmann lied to the FBI about working for the Clinton campaign when he brought forward false allegations against Pres. Trump — that Hillary personally approved. Today’s verdict, while deeply disappointing, is not the end to ensuring this never happens in America again.”

Legal experts said they weren’t surprised by the verdict and that Durham was behind the eight ball from the start due to pre-trial rulings by Judge Christopher Cooper as well as potential jury bias.

“The Durham prosecutors were facing extremely adverse conditions in this trial,” George Washington University Law School professor Jonathan Turley told The Post. “Judge Cooper imposed strict limits on the scope of the evidenceand possible examinations that prevented the prosecution from showing the origins of this information and the broader role of the Clinton campaign.”

On 1 February 2021, reporter Ko Zin Lin Htet received a panicked phone call from a source in the Burmese capital, Yangon. The caller said the military had seized power and was arresting opposition politicians, then hung up. Ko Zin Lin Htet remembered what he did next: “I checked my phone and my internet connection. There was nothing there.”

He got on his motorbike and drove to the parliament, where he saw military personnel, not police, guarding the buildings. At that moment, Ko Zin Lin Htet realised there had been a coup – and that by cutting internet access, the new junta had thrown the country back into the pre-internet era.

For months the military had been questioning the results of the November 2020 election, won in a landslide by Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy. The coup took place on the day the new parliament was due to be sworn in.

In the early hours of the morning, the junta had sent soldiers to the country’s internet providers to force engineers to shut down connections to the outside world. It was the first stage of a digital coup designed to exert control over communications by slowing and strategically shutting off the internet.

Nathan Maung was another Burmese journalist who recalls the confusion and disbelief on the day of the military takeover. “The internet was out.” He looked for his most recent texts – “The last messages from my friends said, ‘Shit happened’. I have no clue what shit happened.”

The whole country had been plunged into an information black hole.

‘Cloak of darkness’

From Ukraine to Myanmar, government-run internet outages are picking up pace around the world. In 2021, there were 182 shutdowns in 34 countries, according to Access Now, a non-government organisation that tracks connectivity around the world. Countries across Africa and Asia have turned to shutdowns in a bid to control behaviour, while India, largely in the conflict-ridden region of Jammu and Kashmir, plunged into digital darkness more times than any other last year.

The gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races in Wisconsin are within the margin of error, according to a Trafalgar Group poll released Sunday evening, 72 days before election night in November.

The independent poll commissioned by the Trafalgar Group and conducted from August 22 to 25, with a 2.9 percent margin of error, showed that the Democrat and Republican nominees for Wisconsin gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races are nearly tied.

When the 1,091 likely general election voters were asked whom they would vote for in the gubernatorial race, 48 percent said they would vote to reelect incumbent Democrat Gov. Tony Evers, while 47.5 percent said they would vote for the Republican challenger, Tim Michels.

The numbers are potentially a bad sign for Evers but well within the margin of error. The gubernatorial race poll also had 1.8 percent who said other and 2.7 percent who said they were undecided.

Additionally, when the same group of respondents was asked whom they would vote for in the U.S. Senate race, 47.1 percent said they would vote to reelect incumbent Republican Sen. Ron Johnson. In contrast, a slightly higher number (49.4 percent) said they would vote for his Democrat challenger, Mandela Barnes.

The poll shows a potentially ominous sign for Johnson but, again, well within the margin of error. The Senate race poll also had 3.5 percent who said they were undecided.

Out of all of the respondents, 45.4 percent were Republican, 43.2 percent said they were Democrat, and 11.4 percent said they were “no party” or “other.”

The Trafalgar Group poll was conducted from August 22 to 25 with 1,091 likely general election voters as respondents and a 2.9 percent margin of error. The poll also saw a 95 percent confidence level.

The sordid history of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS)

The legal immunities of the supranational bank perpetuates the belief that the central bankers are unaccountable to everyday citizens and their own governments. The bank does not reveal the discussions at their meetings with the central bankers of the world or its internal operations. The bank has no accountability or transparency in its operation.

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) was created on May 17, 1930 to administer or “settle” the World War I reparations imposed on Germany under the Treaty of Versailles. There were four very powerful individuals who played a very important role in the founding of BIS: Charles G. Dawes, Owen D. Young, Hjalmar Schacht, and Montagu Norman.

Adam Lebor wrote the best and most up-to-date book on BIS called Tower of Basel: The Shadowy History of the Secret Bank that Runs the World (2013). This book is the first investigative history of the most secretive and powerful global financial institution in the world. Lebor conducted many in the interviews with international central bankers and their employees, including Paul Volcker, the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank (the Fed), and Sir Mervyn King, former governor of the Bank of England. He also conducted extensive archival research of the BIS in Basel, Switzerland and other libraries in the United States and Great Britain. His book included biographies on the major central bankers who founded the bank and the important officials that worked at BIS.

James C. Baker was the author of a pro-BIS book entitled The Bank for International Settlements: Evolution and Evaluation (2002). This author wrote a comprehensive history of BIS.

Mr. Su also handled and argued several matters in the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

In 2010, he received the United States Attorney’s Award for Excellence in Prosecution of Fraud.

Earlier in his career, from 2004 through 2006, Mr. Su served as an associate in Latham’s White Collar Defense and Investigations Practice.

After graduation, Mr. Su was a law clerk for the Honorable Julian Abele Cook, Jr. of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and for the Honorable Ronald M. Gould of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
