What started as a peaceful protest at Centennial Olympic Park Friday afternoon turned into hours of unrest. Protesters set fires, looted stores and broke windows. They even climbed the sign outside the headquarters of media company CNN and spray painted messages on it. The building is also home to a police precinct. Also damaged was the College Football Hall of Fame.

Bakersfield

Ten people were arrested and a memorial to a fallen police officer was vandalized during a protest that drew 200-300 of people, according to KGET.com, an NBC affiliate. Most of the arrests were for resisting and obstruction but, KGET reported that one person was charged with attempted murder for driving through the crowd and hitting a 15-year-old girl.

Boston

Hundreds gathered in the city’s South End for a relatively tame demonstration asking for justice for Floyd. A undisclosed number of people were arrested after clashing with police.

Chicago

Protesters marching through downtown Chicago left behind broken windows and toppled garbage cans and flower pots early Saturday. There were an unknown number of arrests but no serious injuries, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Columbus

Key streets in Ohio’s capital were blocked for hours as about 400 protesters gathered into a stand-off with police, according to The Columbus Dispatch. Demonstrators hurled water bottles, flares and smoke bombs at officers. Police fired back with pepper spray. The demonstrators broke windows and set fire to a ticket office at the Columbus Association for Performing Arts.

Legal Criteria for Designation under Section 219 of the INA as amended

It must be a foreign organization.

The organization must engage in terrorist activity, as defined in section 212 (a)(3)(B) of the INA (8 U.S.C. § 1182(a)(3)(B)),* or terrorism, as defined in section 140(d)(2) of the Foreign Relations Authorization Act, Fiscal Years 1988 and 1989 (22 U.S.C. § 2656f(d)(2)),** or retain the capability and intent to engage in terrorist activity or terrorism.

The organization’s terrorist activity or terrorism must threaten the security of U.S. nationals or the national security (national defense, foreign relations, or the economic interests) of the United States.

Legal Ramifications of Designation

It is unlawful for a person in the United States or subject to the jurisdiction of the United States to knowingly provide “material support or resources” to a designated FTO. (The term “material support or resources” is defined in 18 U.S.C. § 2339A(b)(1) as ” any property, tangible or intangible, or service, including currency or monetary instruments or financial securities, financial services, lodging, training, expert advice or assistance, safehouses, false documentation or identification, communications equipment, facilities, weapons, lethal substances, explosives, personnel (1 or more individuals who maybe or include oneself), and transportation, except medicine or religious materials.” 18 U.S.C. § 2339A(b)(2) provides that for these purposes “the term ‘training’ means instruction or teaching designed to impart a specific skill, as opposed to general knowledge.” 18 U.S.C. § 2339A(b)(3) further provides that for these purposes the term ‘expert advice or assistance’ means advice or assistance derived from scientific, technical or other specialized knowledge.’’

Representatives and members of a designated FTO, if they are aliens, are inadmissible to and, in certain circumstances, removable from the United States (see 8 U.S.C. §§ 1182 (a)(3)(B)(i)(IV)-(V), 1227 (a)(1)(A)).

Any U.S. financial institution that becomes aware that it has possession of or control over funds in which a designated FTO or its agent has an interest must retain possession of or control over the funds and report the funds to the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

Other Effects of Designation

Supports our efforts to curb terrorism financing and to encourage other nations to do the same.

Stigmatizes and isolates designated terrorist organizations internationally.

Deters donations or contributions to and economic transactions with named organizations.

Heightens public awareness and knowledge of terrorist organizations.

Signals to other governments our concern about named organizations.

Dallas/Fort Worth

A peaceful protest that stated at the Dallas Police Department turned violent as demonstrators set fires and looted stores in downtown Dallas. Police used tear gas to disperse the group, who then walked to a nearby major freeway and blocked traffic, according to FOX 4 News. About 200 people also chanted and marched in Fort Worth in peaceful protest.

Des Moines

“Violent melee” spread through the city Friday night, according to the Des Moines Register, as protesters threw bricks and rocks at police cars. Businesses on at least one section of the city boarded up their windows in advance of the planned demonstration. Windows in the federal courthouse were, a hotel, and a tire service business. Police reportedly fired chemical irritants to disperse the crowd. Protest organizers said their planned one-hour assembly was peaceful and that they encouraged people to go home after. Another group incited the violence that happened hours later, they said.

Denver

Protestors set fire to trash cans and dumpsters, smashed windows at the Colorado Judicial Center and other buildings and threw water bottles and other items at police. Officers responded by firsing tear gas and pepper bullets into the crowd.

Detroit

Dozens of people were arrested when a demonstration of about 1,500 turned violent Friday at about 5:45 p.m. Protestors circled police vehicles holding their middle fingers up, police in riot gear later moved in creating a face off with rocks and bottles being thrown and police charging the crowd, according to MLive. A 19-year-old man was also killed when shots were fired by someone from a passing car.

District of Columbia

Protesters gathered outside the gates of the White House. Some said that President Donald Trump’s Tweet calling Minneapolis demonstrators “thugs,” added to their anger, NBC Washington reported. The White House was placed on lockdown for about an hour. Five people were arrested.

Houston

In Floyd’s native city protestors threw rocks and bottles and one hosed offficers with a fire extinguisher. An unknown number of people were arrested, according to ABC 13.

Los Angeles

Five police officers were injured and more than 400 people were arrested during violent protests downtown. Property and vehicles were vandalized and six people were charged for looting, according to ABC 7.

Louisville

Demonstrators protested both Floyd’s death and the death of Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old who was killed by Louisville Police in March during a raid on her home. As hundreds gathered, multiple fires were set. Officers fired tear gas and rubber bullets, one of which was launched at a CNN affiliate reporter who was live on the air Friday night, according to NBC News. Metro Police have since apologized.

Memphis

Protestors marched in peaceful to the National Civil Rights Museum, the former site of the Lorraine Motel, where Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was killed. They chanted as they walked before kneeling in a moment of silence at the museum, according to U.S. News.

Minneapolis

City authorities and the National Guard continue to try to reign in violent protestors after four days of demonstrations in the city where Floyd was killed. Governor Tim Walz has imposed an 8 p.m. curfew and pleaded with demonstrators. But protestors continued to set fires, loot businesses and shoot at police, according to the Star Tribune.

New York City

Dozens of people were arrested and several police officers were injured as thousands of people protested, largely peacefully, in Brooklyn and Manhattan. The assembled at Foley Square, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Barclay’s Center and Police Headquarters. Police cars were vandalized and traffic was halted in Lower Manhattan by demonstrators, according to CBS Local.

wo B-1B Lancers from Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, conducted a long-range, long duration strategic Bomber Task Force mission throughout Europe and the Black Sea region, May 29, 2020.

This marked the first time that a Bomber Task Force mission integrated with Ukrainian Su-27 Flankers and MiG-29 Fulcrums and Turkish KC-135s.

“Bomber Task Force missions to Europe demonstrate commitment to our allies and partners all while providing a clear deterrence message to any adversary,” said Gen. Jeff Harrigian, U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa commander. “The integration of our strategic bomber presence across Europe proves that the U.S., alongside any ally or partner, stands ready to deter, and if needed, can employ these capabilities together.”

The flight also included integration and interoperability training with Polish F-16s and MiG-29s and Romanian F-16s and MiG-21s, which provided escort and combat patrol overwatch in the Black Sea region.

A KC-135 Stratotanker from the 100th Air Refueling Wing, RAF Mildenhall, England, Turkish and U.S. KC-135s based out of Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, and other NATO aerial refueling aircraft enabled the B-1 to complete the round trip from Ellsworth Air Force Base without delay, while also providing aerial refueling support to our partner-nation aircraft.

Additionally, the B-1s integrated with Greek F-16 air policing for an overflight of Skopje, North Macedonia.

“The Bomber Task Force missions demonstrate to our NATO Allies, including our newest member - North Macedonia - that these strategic missions enhance the readiness and training necessary to respond to any potential crisis or challenge around the globe,” said Gen. Tod D. Wolters, U.S. European Command commander. “The integration and interoperability with our NATO Allies during these missions, be it aerial tanker support or fighter escorts, are indelible actions that show the Alliance is as strong as I've ever witnessed.”

Bomber missions familiarize aircrew with air bases, airspace, and operations in different geographic combatant commands. These missions build proficiency and confidence, and they demonstrate the credibility of our forces to address a global security environment that is more diverse and uncertain than at any other time in our history.

Hundreds of protestors marched from City Hall to the State Capitol. The demonstration turned violent when they tried unsuccessfully to enter the capitol. Portland

Mayor Ted Wheeler declared a state of emrgency and implemented an 8 pm. curfew after a night of chaos. Protesters gathered at the Multnomah County Justice Center, which houses a jail and police precinct, where they smashed windows and set fires inside a first-floor office where corrections staff were working. They all escaped without injury and the fire was put out by sprinklers. The crowd also broke windows at businesses, looted and started fires in the streets and at two banks, according to Oregon Live.

Sacramento

A peaceful protest turned briefly into a tense standoff with police on highway overpass. Demonstrators threw water bottles, trash and other objects at officers, who then fired pepper bullets and flash-bang grenades to disperse the crowd, according to the Sacramento Bee.

San Jose

A sheriff’s deputy opened fire on an SUV after its driver did not comply with an order. The SUV driver then reversed quickly, striking two pedestrians, according to NBC Bay Area. And another protester charged at police and began punching an officer. He was quickly taken into custody by several other officers, according to ABC 7. Protesters also caused property damage, set fires, and shut down Highway 101.

A curfew in downtown Dallas seemed to dispel protesters Sunday before any major civil unrest took place. Dallas police said they arrested more than 120 as they enforced the 7 p.m. curfew.

Farther west, protesters remained active, though peaceful, in Fort Worth later into the night. For a couple hours, demonstrators blocked the West 7th Street Bridge, before officers deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd.

As of 10:30 p.m., Fort Worth police said one person had been arrested, but aerial footage showed more people being placed into handcuffs.

Previous protests on Friday and Saturday evenings remained calm in Fort Worth.

City leaders called for calm and peace earlier Sunday after two days of protests, civil unrest and vandalism in Dallas, and across the country, after the death of George Floyd earlier this week in Minneapolis police custody.

Dallas has been placed under a curfew from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., Chief of Police Renee Hall said Sunday afternoon, for a number of days. Mayor Eric Johnson had said during an interview on WFAA on Sunday morning that decision would be dependent upon what law enforcement leaders felt they needed to keep control.

Leaders in University Park, Highland Park, Denton and Irving also put curfews into effect Sunday.

Rev. Bruce Ritter (February 25, 1927 –October 7, 1999) was a Catholic priest and one-time Franciscan friar who founded the charity Covenant House in 1972 forhomeless teenagers. By the 1980s, it had grown to an $87 million agency, operating numerous large centers in New York and six other major United States cities, as well as locations in Toronto, Canada, and Latin America.

In 1990, Ritter was forced to resign from Covenant House after allegations of sexual and financial misconduct. It was one of the most widely publicized cases of sexual abuse within the Catholic Church.However no charges were filed against him. Independent investigation commissioned by the charity found none of the allegations of sexual misconduct can be proved beyond any question, but that cumulative evidence was extensive.

He also left the Franciscans, but retained his priestly faculties. He retired to a small town in upstate New York.

A Ivy League-educated lawyer and member of a Brooklyn community board was among those arrested for hurling a Molotov cocktail at a marked NYPD vehicle amid George Floyd protests, it was revealed Sunday.

Colinford Mattis, 32, was allegedly behind the wheel of a tan minivan as his passenger, fellow attorney Urooj Rahman, allegedly hurled the incendiary at an empty NYPD vehicle outside the 88th Precinct station house in Fort Greene early on Saturday.

Mattis, a graduate of Princeton University and New York University law school, is an associate at corporate Manhattan firm Pryor Cashman.

He was furloughed in April amid the coronavirus crisis, his employer confirmed.

“No rational human being can ever believe that hurling firebombs at police officers and vehicles is justified,” said Brooklyn US Attorney Richard Donaghue.

Both attorneys are expected to be arraigned on Monday.

If convicted, each of them faces up to 20 years behind bars with a mandatory minimum sentence of 5 years.

The woman who allegedly threw a lit Molotov cocktail into an NYPD car full of cops early Saturday has been slapped with a federal charge of damaging a police vehicle — a far cry from the attempted murder charges sought by the NYPD.

Samantha Shader, 27, of Catskill, New York, allegedly tossed the makeshift explosive into the marked police vehicle parked at Eastern Parkway and Washington Avenue in Crown Heights, Brooklyn around 1:12 a.m, as a night of destructive protests over the killing of George Floyd winded down, federal prosecutors said.

The bottle shattered two of the vehicle’s windows as four cops sat inside — but the gas inside did not ignite, the feds said in a criminal complaint released early Sunday.

The complaint cites a single charge against Shader: Causing Damage by Fire and Explosives to a Police Vehicle.

Prosecutors obtained a witness video they said showed Shader hurl the device as a man attempted to shield her from onlookers.

Officers then pursued her as she attempted to flee and arrested her, prosecutors said.

“In a post-arrest statement, Shader later admitted to police that she had thrown the Molotov Cocktail at the NYPD vehicle,” prosecutors said.

The NYPD initially pressed for attempted-murder charges against the demonstrator — but federal prosecutors have now taken over the case and assumed custody.

Found Fr. Bruce Ritter in the DoS FOIA reading room. A letter written from Patrick Atkinson to Ritter re: more than 20 bodies found on American owned soil during a construction project at Casa Alianza Guatemala. Reading the letter it sounds like a cover-up; the bodies were almost immediately declared to be 500 year old skeletons, even though they appeared to have been shot through the temple. Then there's that whole 'brown babies' connection with Guatemala.

“The members felt intimidated, and they knew Rohan would have been watching them going into that interview process,” said Tosti, district council director for the AFSCME union.

Some family members of veterans said they, too, were reluctant to go against Blackwood.

Twitter is allowing its users to coordinate criminal behavior on the platform, with dozens of tweets identifying looting targets still on the platform despite the fact that the site was notified by concerned citizens. The company has however changed the description of its official account to “#BlackLivesMatter.”

A Twitter search for “Santana Row,” which is the name of a shopping district in San Jose, California, reveals dozens of Twitter users encouraging their followers to target and loot the district. Many of the tweets have been on the platform for days.

“let’s riot and raid Santana Row lol,” said one tweet, which was shared over 100 times.

“Next looting stop; SANTANA ROW IN SAN JOSE,” said another.

“Santana Row hasnt even issued a statement regarding everything going on when they are very active on social media. They deserve to get looted.”

Twitter was alerted of these tweets by Breitbart News more than 20 hours ago, and has taken no action.

In a comment a Twitter spokeswoman said “We’re taking proactive action on any coordinated attempts to disrupt the public conversation around this issue.” The spokeswoman did not describe the tweets as criminal.

It appears the company has other priorities — like changing the profile description on its official account, @Twitter, to “#BlackLivesMatter.”

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — A 37-year-old Kansas City-area man was charged Friday with attempted first-degree murder and eight other felonies after authorities say he randomly fired into traffic on a bridge that connects Kansas and Missouri.

The charges filed in Leavenworth County, Kansas, District Court against Jason Randell Westrem, of Houston City, Missouri, include four counts of firing into an occupied vehicle, two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of aggravated endangerment of a child. Two children were passengers in a vehicle that came under fire Wednesday on the Centennial Bridge near Fort Leavenworth.

A soldier stationed at the Army post hit the shooter with his car to stop the firing. One person, also a soldier, was wounded, and the suspect was injured and remains hospitalized, according to Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson.

Thompson declined to comment about the details of the case ahead of court hearings. It was not immediately clear whether Westrem has an attorney.

Leavenworth police officers initially believed they were responding to a road rage incident on the bridge. Instead, they discovered that a man had been using multiple weapons to fire randomly at vehicles.

The soldier who ran over the gunman had been waiting in traffic when he saw what was happening.

Royer is a 15-year veteran of the US Army. He attributed his ability to react quickly to the emergency to his extensive military training, which included active-shooter drills

He told Good Morning America it was there that he noticed the shooter stop his car and 'pull a rifle out of his trunk'.

'My adrenaline kicked in immediately. I knew people were in danger,' he recalled.

'I was kind of shocked. This guy has a rifle, and he started to fire his rifle, and I looked around real fast and just - the only decision I felt I could make was to hit the suspect with my vehicle.'

Royer accelerated his pick-up truck, hitting the shooter and pinning him under the wheel.

After getting into some trouble as a teen, Royer said he got his life in order, graduated from high school and joined the military in 2005, with his first posting being Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

With Attorney General William Barr now firmly in charge at the Justice Department, the steady unraveling of the coup plot against President Donald J. Trump by the Obama-Clinton junta raises the real possibility that a number of its culprits will face prosecution. The pushback from Democrats and their allies is the false claim that Attorney General Barr “interfered” in the sentencing recommendations of the “non-political career line prosecutors” in my case as well as recommending the dismissal of the thoroughly corrupted case against Gen. Michael Flynn. Now that I am ungagged, I can outline why this charge against the Attorney General is entirely false. Read on.

After years of obfuscation, foot-dragging and distracting sham investigations to prop up the Democrats’ Russian collusion hoax, the end is perhaps nigh for the defiant zealots behind the most brazen attempt to systematically subvert constitutional government in our nation’s entire history.

Despite his somewhat-plodding manner, AG Barr is emerging as a stolid, steady leader in the national imperative of correcting the veritable crime spree of Obama-Clinton sponsored injustices, while exorcising the DOJ of the lawless partisan corruption that infested its ranks during the Obama administration.

To the dismay of the deep state manipulators, Barr is not susceptible to smarmy tactics and relentless bullying. His fealty lies solely with the Constitution and fulfilling the DOJ’s role as its guardian, ensuring the reliable administration of legitimate, rather than wayward justice.

Barr may well prove to be the immovable object the Obama-Clinton-Democrat manipulators had hoped their endless torrent of lies, smears and obfuscations would never encounter. As they see that political pressures will not bring Barr to heel, he has become a focal point for their relentless attack machine.

In February, the Attorney General found out just how diabolical the Obama-Clinton apparatchiks can be when the lawyers prosecuting me engineered a media frenzy to set Barr up for false accusations that he had intervened to serve the interests of President Trump.

This malicious prosecution used as a tool to silence and bankrupt me originated with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s partisan hit squad, but was migrated to the U.S. Attorney for D.C. when Mueller abruptly ended his nearly 2-year inquisition targeting President Trump and his political supporters. Two members of Mueller’s team were dispatched to prosecute the case alongside two lawyers from the U.S. Attorney’s office. With them came the Mueller team’s penchant for devious legal machinations and unethical ambush tactics.

As my case came to the sentencing phase, its underhanded prosecutors reportedly lied to senior DOJ officials and “browbeat” the newly-appointed US Attorney for D.C. in order to file a sentencing memorandum recommending that I receive seven to nine years incarceration as a non-violent first-time offender on charges that were picayune gotcha offenses.

The draconian punishment recommendation was a radical departure from standard DOJ sentencing recommendation practices and immediately sparked public outrage. The criticism from legal experts across the spectrum compelled the DOJ to correct the government’s sentencing recommendation to bring it in line with the handling normally given a case of its kind.

The DOJ went so far as to issue a public statement denouncing the recommendation of its own prosecutors, warning that “[t]he Department finds seven to nine years extreme, excessive and grossly disproportionate to Mr. Stone’s offenses.” Hardly a ringing endorsement of this persecution team’s judgment, to say the least...

A night of widespread social unrest unfolded across dozens of major US cities on Saturday night. Violent clashes between protesters and police were seen, police vehicles and government buildings were lit on fire, businesses were also looted, and some were even torched following the death of George Floyd, a black man who died in police custody in Minneapolis on Monday (May 25). What started as mostly peaceful protests in Minneapolis on Tuesday (May 26), quickly spiraled out of control into some of the worst social unrest this county has ever seen. By Wednesday evening (May 27), peaceful demonstrations spread to other major US metros, and almost immediately, violence erupted in the streets, and communities were transformed into warzones in a matter of hours. By Sunday (May 31) - the nation is burning, it's time for President Trump to address the country, and stop pretending how everything is awesome for election year purposes.

The nation, at the moment, is imploding, the economy has crashed, 40 million unemployed, Floyd's death was merely a trigger for the social unrest, as it is clear, the working-class poor (experiencing the worst wealth gap in modern history) are angry, broke, and jobless in the "greatest economy ever," as their only hope to be heard is through rioting. While burning businesses and harming human life is by no means a sufficient response to voice one's frustrations of a failed system or a failed American social experiment that is quickly collapsing on itself, it has been the undeniable path many have taken in the last week. The riots in Ferguson (2014) and Baltimore (2015) were just the appetizers of today's social unrest, the full course meal has yet to come, although we could be in the early chapters of it. As a result of the chaos, lockdowns are beginning, and this time not for virus-related reasons, as curfews were enacted in two dozen cities and National Guard has been activated in 12 states and the District of Columbia this weekend. Policy response on a state and federal level suggests the next card that the government could play is martial law or a variant form of it.

Four Frat Brothers Killed in Plane Crash in Macoupin, MO

Four fraternity brothers in their 30s were killed when a small plane crashed Sunday in Macoupin County, shortly after taking off from the Creve Coeur area, authorities said.

The unidentified victims were pronounced dead at the scene at 4:27 p.m. in rural Carlinville. The sheriff said all victims were adults and lived out of state.

Macoupin County Coroner Brad Targhetta said the victims' names will be released once their relatives are notified. One man was from Missouri, one was from Michigan and two lived in New York, the coroner said. The men were college fraternity brothers, believed to be in their mid-30s.

They left Creve Coeur airport at 3:20 p.m. Sunday and were on their way to Michigan, Targhetta said.

The crash is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration and the Macoupin County sheriff's office.

They were in a Piper Cherokee PA 28-235 fixed wing, single-engine aircraft, a four-seater. Its registered owner, Cleared for Takeoff LLC, is in Lansing, Michigan, according to an FAA website.

Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl said the several people reported the crash to 911 dispatchers about 3:45 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies found the crash site on a private farm near Wonderland Ranch Drive, about 2.5 miles south of Carlinville. The small four-seater plane crashed near a residence on the farm, but no one on the ground was hurt, Kahl said.

"Several people saw it and heard it," Kahl said. "Witnesses heard a noise of some sort but they don't know what it was. As far as what transpired in the air, I wouldn't even begin to speculate on that."

He said weather wasn't a factor. It was sunny and in the 70s.

A manager at Creve Couer Airport said he didn't recognize the plane's tail number and doesn't think the plane was based there.

How to Make this Moment the Turning Point for Real Change

As millions of people across the country take to the streets and raise their voices in response to the killing of George Floyd and the ongoing problem of unequal justice, many people have reached out asking how we can sustain momentum to bring about real change.

Ultimately, it’s going to be up to a new generation of activists to shape strategies that best fit the times. But I believe there are some basic lessons to draw from past efforts that are worth remembering.

First, the waves of protests across the country represent a genuine and legitimate frustration over a decades-long failure to reform police practices and the broader criminal justice system in the United States. The overwhelming majority of participants have been peaceful, courageous, responsible, and inspiring. They deserve our respect and support, not condemnation — something that police in cities like Camden and Flint have commendably understood.

On the other hand, the small minority of folks who’ve resorted to violence in various forms, whether out of genuine anger or mere opportunism, are putting innocent people at risk, compounding the destruction of neighborhoods that are often already short on services and investment and detracting from the larger cause. I saw an elderly black woman being interviewed today in tears because the only grocery store in her neighborhood had been trashed. If history is any guide, that store may take years to come back. So let’s not excuse violence, or rationalize it, or participate in it. If we want our criminal justice system, and American society at large, to operate on a higher ethical code, then we have to model that code ourselves.

The Minneapolis police officer who shot a man during a domestic assault call Saturday has been identified.

Officer Derek Chauvin, a seven-year veteran, shot and wounded Ira Latrell Toles at a south-side apartment early Saturday.

According to police:

Just before 2 a.m., 911 dispatchers received a call from a residence at 1828 Columbus Ave. S. According to police, the 911 call remained open, and an operator could hear a woman yelling for someone to stop hitting her.

Chauvin and another officer who responded had to force their way into the apartment.

Toles ran from the officers as soon as they got inside, but they caught and tried to subdue him, according to police. In the struggle, Toles grabbed at one of the officer’s guns. Chauvin fired at Toles and hit him in the torso.

Toles was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center.

The officers are on paid administrative leave pending an investigation of the shooting, as is standard Minneapolis police department policy.

Chauvin started the Minneapolis Police Academy in October 2001. He has worked in the first, third, fourth precincts and the water works security detail. Earlier this year, he was awarded a department medal of valor for his response in an incident involving a man armed with a gun.

In 2007, Floyd was charged with armed robbery in a home invasion in Houston, in which another man posed as a water department worker in an attempt to gain access to a woman’s residence, according to court documents.

When the woman realized he wasn’t actually a water department worker, she tried to close the door. That’s when five other men got out of a car that had just pulled up and forced their way inside.

According to charging documents, the largest man in the group, whom the victim identified as Floyd, “forced his way inside the residence, placed a pistol against the complainant’s abdomen, and forced her into the living room area of the residence.”

Floyd in 2009 was sentenced to five years in prison as part of a plea deal in the case.

Shortly after getting out, he made the move to Minneapolis in hopes of a better life, and landed a gig working security at a Salvation Army store.

He later started working two jobs, one driving trucks and another as a bouncer at the restaurant Conga Latin Bistro, where he was known as “Big Floyd.”
