Two unique features of SARS-CoV-2 are convincing a growing number of scientists that it was man-made, and not the result of natural evolution, according to the Daily Telegraph.

First, the virus binds more strongly to human ACE2 enzymes than any other species, including bats.

Second, SARS-CoV-2 has a "furin cleavage site" missing in its closes bat-coronavirus relative, RaTG-13, which makes it significantly more infectious - a finding we reported in late February.

According to Israeli geneticist, Dr. Ronen Shemesh, the Furin site is the most unusual finding.

"I believe that the most important issue about the differences between ALL coronavirus types is the insertion of a Furin protease cleavage site at the Spike protein of SARS-CoV-2," he said. "Such an insertion is very rare in evolution, the addition of such 4 Amino acids alone in the course of only 20 years is very unlikely."

Shamesh, who is working on a treatment for COVID-19, believes the novel coronavirus was most likely created in a lab, and did not evolve in nature.

"There are many reasons to believe that the COVID-19 generating SARS-CoV-2 was generated in a lab. Most probably by methods of genetic engineering," he said, adding "I believe that this is the only way an insertion like the FURIN protease cleavage site could have been introduced directly at the right place and become effective."

An ANTIFA activist group disseminated a message in a Telegram channel on Saturday that encouraged people to consider Minnesota National Guard troops ‘easy targets,’ two Defense Department officials said. The message encouraged activists to steal ‘kit,’ meaning the weapons and body armor used by the soldiers.

Others have seen evidence of right-wing extremists. J.J. MacNab, a fellow at George Washington University’s Program on Extremism, has been monitoring chatter about the protests among anti-government extremists on social media platforms.

MacNab has access to dozens of private Facebook groups for followers of the loosely organized ‘Boogaloo’ movement, which uses an ´80s movie sequel as a code word for a second civil war.

She also has been poring over images from the weekend protests and spotted some ‘boogaloo bois’ in the crowds, carrying high-powered rifles and wearing tactical gear.

‘They want to co-opt them in order to start their war. They see themselves as being on the side of protesters and that the protesters themselves are useful in causing anarchy,’ MacNab said.

She also sees signs that the Three Percenters militia movement appears to be taking an interest.

Megan Squire, an Elon University computer science professor who tracks online extremism, saw images of at least four members of the far-right Proud Boys group on the periphery of a protest Saturday night in Raleigh, North Carolina.

MSNBC's Mitchell Defends Antifa: 'Cherry Picking' Trump Just Going After His 'Political Enemies

Even after radical left-wing groups vandalized news buildings, they still get defended by their friends in the media. After NBC scoffed at President Trump for calling out Antifa agitators Sunday, MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell complained on her show Monday that the president was “cherry picking” Antifa to “go after his political enemies.”

The host not only defended Antifa but also claimed without evidence, that it was actually the "right wing" at these demonstrations to blame for the violence, instead.

Mitchell first brought up this argument to New York Times’ White House Correspondent Peter Baker. She fretted that President Trump was “politicizing intelligence” when “in fact, there is more white supremacist outside agitation involved" (she added the "right wing" later on):

A little while later, Mitchell brought up Figliuzzi’s dubious claim again about Antifa not being the ones to blame; instead, she said there was "more right wing, white supremacist groups" there. While Mitchell defended the violent left-wing group, she had no problem attaching violent white supremacists with "the right." She complained President Trump and the Attorney General William Barr were “cherry picking” to single out “their political enemies” by designating Antifa as a terrorist organization:

Meanwhile, President Trump, as I was suggesting, and the Attorney General, Bill Barr, are blaming Antifa for the violence that has erupted over the last four days and nights, despite reporting from NBC News contributor Frank Fugilizi, former career FBI counterintelligence official that, in fact, there are more indications of more right-wing, white supremacist groups or activists present among the outside agitators. The president says he will designate Antifa a terrorist organization. Antifa has no known headquarters or central organization. There is no legal procedure for such a designation against a domestic group. NBC news investigative reporter Tom Winter joins me now. Tom, I know you've spent days, the weekend, going into not only Antifa and what the indications are in this situation, but the President and the Attorney General maybe cherry-picking the intelligence to go after the president's own political enemies. What have you discovered?

It’s interesting that Mitchell calls Antifa, the president’s “political enemy” as if they are not the enemies of every American who believes in the rule of law. It’s also telling that MSNBC will blame these riots on a fringe militia group while ignoring the mass violence caused by Antifa anarchists, which has been documented. The Department of Homeland Security in fact warned state and local leaders of Antifa’s “domestic terrorist violence” in 2017.

Trump considering a move to invoke Insurrection Act

It would be the first time the act to deploy U.S. troops was invoked since the 1992 Rodney King protests.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump is considering invoking a 213-year-old federal law that would allow him to deploy active-duty U.S. troops to respond to protests in cities across the country, according to four people familiar with the internal White House discussions.

Trump has warmed to the idea of using the Insurrection Act, adopted in 1807, to deploy troops as his frustrations mount over the protests that have followed the death of George Floyd, a black man who was killed in police custody last week in Minneapolis.

Some of the president’s aides have been encouraging him for days to invoke the act, as he weighs options for exercising executive powers to address the crisis. The act was last invoked during the 1992 Rodney King riots in Los Angeles.

The White House did not respond to a request for comment for this article but at a briefing with reporters Monday, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany left open the possibility that the president could invoke the act.

“The Insurrection Act, it’s one of the tools available, whether the president decides to pursue that, that’s his prerogative,“ McEnany said.

Cotton Leads Colleagues in Submitting Amicus Brief on Behalf of General Michael Flynn

Washington, D.C.—Today Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) will file an Amicus Brief with the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals supporting General Michael Flynn’s Petition for a Writ of Mandamus. Senators Mike Braun (R-Indiana), Kevin Cramer (R-North Dakota), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), Rick Scott (R-Florida), and Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) joined Senator Cotton’s brief. Background: Last month, the Department of Justice asked Judge Sullivan of the D.C. District Court to dismiss their case against General Michael Flynn. The facts uncovered showed General Flynn did not commit the offense he had pled to and was the victim of biased and corrupt investigators. Minnesota gov blamed right-wing 'white supremacists' for violence — now the truth comes out

Minnesota leaders also claimed the protesters were not local residents

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a Democrat, pinned responsibility for the violence in Minneapolis on right-wing "white supremacists" and drug cartels on Saturday. Walz, along with Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) and St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter (D), also blamed the violence on out-of-state, professional agitators — not local residents.

New evidence, however, show their claims are not true.

According to KMSP-TV, the "overwhelming majority" of those arrested in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area over the last several days were in-state residents.

The overwhelming majority of people arrested in connection with the Minneapolis unrest have Minnesota addresses, a search of the online Hennepin County Jail log shows.

Of the 45 people arrested for rioting, unlawful assembly, stolen property, burglary or robbery on May 29 and May 30 so far, 38 had Minnesota addresses, according to publicly available jail records reviewed by FOX 9.

In fact, KMSP reported that only six of those arrested have out-of-state addresses.

The revelation forced Carter to retract his previous declaration that "every" protester that had been arrested in his city were not local residents. The Democratic mayor claimed he was given inaccurate information prior to making remarks at a news conference Saturday.

Meanwhile, a security expert — former British Army counterterrorism officer Adam Leggat, who now works as a security consultant — told USA Today that intelligence reports show the agitators are left-wing anarchists.

Leggat, the security consultant, said intelligence reports from his colleagues indicate most of the hard-core protesters in Minneapolis are far-left or anarchists, and that far-right groups have not yet made a significant appearance. He said looting is typically done by locals – usually people with no criminal record who just get caught up in the moment.

But direct conflicts with authorities come from a mix of both locals and outside groups who see these conflicts as a core part of their mission. Many of the anarchists, he said, target banks, chain-type businesses and even luxury cars as symbols of corrupt institutions. He said even a peaceful protest can turn violent if outside agitators decide to participate, hijacking the message.

Indeed, Attorney General William Barr said Saturday that the violence is being carried out by "far-left extremist groups."

"In many places, it appears the violence is planned, organized, and driven by anarchistic and far-left extremists, using Antifa-like tactics, many of whom travel from out of state to promote the violence," Barr said.

Barr reiterated those facts in a statement on Sunday, saying that, "violence instigated and carried out by Antifa and other similar groups in connection with the rioting is domestic terrorism and will be treated accordingly."

President Donald Trump also announced Sunday that Antifa will be designated as a terrorist organization, which may prove difficult because Antifa does not have centralized leadership like terrorist organizations and drug cartels.

How fortunate we are to have as president the bravest man in America. A man who was not afraid — when even Joe Biden was standing above ground and meeting with protesters — to boldly go down into a secure bunker. Now that was an act of courage! Hiding under the ground, which is a scary place full of earthworms and moles (some could be malignant) and cicadas and very long roots! Secreting himself in a bunker of limited size, laughing in the face of claustrophobia, even though he was forced to confront head-on the terrifying fact that all the items around him might have been touched by Dick Cheney during his brief time in the same spot — only a very daring man would have the guts to venture there. Hiding below the White House, where Andrew Johnson’s ghost could possibly also be, at any time.

But his courage did not stop there. No! He was not afraid to pick up the telephone (always terrifying, because you cannot see your interlocutor, and sometimes you both start talking at the same time, which can haunt you for months afterwards) and yell at the nation’s governors that they needed to “dominate” and “get much tougher” and that “if you don’t dominate you’re wasting your time. They’re going to run over you, you’re going to look like a bunch of jerks.” This was not just a sign of bravery, but also intelligence, demonstrating his laser-like ability to pinpoint the one remark that might soothe or offer even a tiny bit of reassurance during a trying time, and then say the exact opposite.

But it was not just by phone that his courage demonstrated itself. He did not merely speak, but also typed! He managed to violate Twitter’s terms of service by glorifying violence, the act of a very bold man. Behind a keyboard is the most frightening place of all to be, much scarier than standing in a protest, because you do not know, for starters, if the keyboard is entirely clean, and also you might make a typo. And staring at the screen to which the keyboard is attached could lead to eyestrain.

It took immense bravery to say the very worst things at a time such as this. But that is the kind of bravery for which Donald Trump has always been known. Not afraid to heap insult on injury on insult, bold enough to cower, wise enough to plant his foot firmly in his mouth. Suspect Accused of Inciting Riot In Pittsburgh Turns Himself In

Pittsburgh — 20-year-old Brian Jordan Bartels has turned himself in to police after being accused of rioting in Pittsburgh.

Local police and FBI Pittsburgh, served a search warrant at a Shaler home Sunday afternoon.

Police secured the warrant as part of an investigation into Bartels who allegedly incited Saturday’s violence by breaking the windows out of a marked Pittsburgh Police vehicle Uptown, “against the wishes of peaceful protesters who tried to stop him,” officials said.

Bartels was not in the home, but investigators seized evidence linking him to the crime.

According to WPXI, the search warrant “found that police found several items inside the home including 2 firearms, books, gloves, cans of spray paint, indica, and a sweatshirt with white writing on the front was found on top of the dryer in the laundry room.”

Bartels faces charges of institutional vandalism, rioting, and reckless endangerment of another person.

The investigation is ongoing.
