Boeing signs deal to sell aircraft to Iran

Boeing inked a deal to sell jetliners to the largest airline in Iran, potentially becoming the first big American company to take advantage of the lifting of many economic sanctions with the Islamic Republic following last year's landmark nuclear accord.

The Chicago-based aircraft manufacturer said Tuesday that it signed an agreement with Iran Air “expressing the airline’s intent” to buy its aircraft. But the agreement could face hurdles, including opposition in Congress.

The sale could be worth up to $25 billion to Boeing, Abbas Akhoundi, Iran's roads and urban development minister, told Iran's Press TV. Terms of the deal were not being disclosed. If they call for the planes being sold at full price, the total represents more than a quarter of the annual revenue for a company that reached an all-time-high revenue mark in 2015.

The agreement calls for Iran Air to buy a mix of models of Boeing aircraft that is expected to include the 737, the best-selling commercial aircraft of all time, and others, according to the Iranian Students’ News Agency. Boeing declined to comment on the size of the deal, though Iran Civil Aviation Organization head Ali Abedzadeh told the Iranian news agency Tasnim that the airline would purchase 100 aircraft from Boeing.

The agreement would come several months after European consortium aircraft manufacturer Airbus signed a deal to sell 73 wide-body planes and 45 single-aisle planes to Iran for commercial use in a deal that media reports said is worth $27 billion. To be sure, however, Boeing's sale is not a done deal yet. The company must win approval from the Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control, which enforces sanctions and monitors economic transactions between U.S. companies and foreign countries engaged in illicit activities.

“Boeing will continue to follow the lead of the U.S. government with regards to working with Iran’s airlines, and any and all contracts with Iran’s airlines will be contingent upon U.S. government approval,” Boeing said in a statement. Another potential obstacle is opposition from members of Congress who opposed the Iran nuclear accord, saying that Iran had not earned the right to escape sanctions.

Rep. Peter Roskam, R-Ill., said he and other members of Congress from Chicago and Washington state, where Boeing has large manufacturing operations, oppose the transaction and will work to block it.

"If this moves forward, Boeing and terror will be intertwined," Roskam said. "Congress will not be sitting by idly without something to say about it."

The U.S. severed diplomatic ties with Iran in 1980 following a revolution that toppled the country's ruler and sparked a takeover of the U.S. Embassy with 52 Americans taken hostage. Since then, the two countries have been engaged in a prolonged political standoff over Iran's nuclear ambitions, anti-Israel positions and American sanctions, among other things. President Obama signed an executive order lifting most sanctions in January.

Despite that progress, Iran is still listed by the State Department as a state sponsor of terrorism for its support of the Lebanese terror groups Hezbollah and the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Licences for Boeing Co. and Airbus to sell passenger jets to Iran will be revoked, U.S. Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said on Tuesday after President Donald Trump pulled the United States out of the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement.

Trump said he would reimpose U.S. economic sanctions on Iran, which had been lifted under the agreement he has harshly criticized.

The pact, worked out by the United States, five other world powers and Iran, lifted sanctions in exchange for Tehran limiting its nuclear program. It was designed to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb.

IranAir had ordered 200 passenger aircraft: 100 from Airbus SE, 80 from Boeing and 20 from Franco-Italian turboprop maker ATR. All the deals are dependent on U.S. licenses because of the heavy use of American parts in commercial planes.

Boeing agreed in December 2016 to sell 80 aircraft, worth $17 billion US at list prices, to IranAir under an agreement between Tehran and major world powers to reopen trade in exchange for curbs on Iran's nuclear activities.

The U.S. Treasury Department, which controls licensing of exports, said the United States will no longer allow the export of commercial passenger aircraft, parts and services to Iran after a 90-day period.

European planemaker Airbus said on Tuesday before the Mnuchin news conference that it would study Trump's decision, adding that it would take some time.

Spoke with nurse cousin today. She works at a hospital in a major city. Her actual words were that they "MUST have had SOME" deaths but that she didn't know of any.

I don't believe that the virus itself is a hoax. If the front lines are really as bad as the media is saying, how would somebody like her not know it? School frightens him now. Earlier this year, a cleric at the religious school he faithfully attended in the southern Punjab town of Pakpattan took him into a washroom and tried to rape him. Muhimman’s aunt, Shazia, who wanted only her first name used, said she believes the abuse of young children is endemic in Pakistan’s religious schools. She said she has known the cleric, Moeed Shah, since she was a little girl and describes him as an habitual abuser who used to ask little girls to pull up their shirts.

“He has done wrong with boys and also with two or three girls,” Shazia said, recalling one girl the cleric brutalized so badly he broke her back.

An investigation by The Associated Press found dozens of police reports, known here as First Information Reports, alleging sexual harassment, rape and physical abuse by Islamic clerics teaching in madrassas or religious schools throughout Pakistan, where many of the country’s poorest study. The AP also documented cases of abuse through interviews with law enforcement officials, abuse victims and their parents. The alleged victims who spoke for this story did so with the understanding only their first names would be used.

There are more than 22,000 registered madrassas in Pakistan, teaching more than 2 million children. But there are many more religious schools that are unregistered. They are typically started by a local cleric in a poor neighborhood, attracting students with a promise of a meal and free lodging. There is no central body of clerics that governs madrassas. Nor is there a central authority that can investigate or respond to allegations of abuse by clerics, unlike the Catholic Church, which has a clear hierarchy topped by the Vatican.

The government of Prime Minister Imran Khan has promised to modernize the curriculum and make the madrassas more accountable, but there is little oversight.

Police say the problem of sexual abuse of children by clerics is pervasive and the scores of police reports they have received are just the tip of the iceberg. Yet despite the dozens of reports, none have resulted in the conviction of a cleric. Religious clerics are a powerful group in Pakistan and they close ranks when allegations of abuse are brought against one of them. They have been able to hide the widespread abuse by accusing victims of blasphemy or defamation of Islam."

"The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Sunday it's closely monitoring the potential reemergence of Ebola in central Africa, after two Ebola deaths were recorded there within just a matter of days.

Health officials thought they had witnessed the end of the second-deadliest outbreak of the virus on record there, after not a single case had appeared in nearly seven weeks.

The WHO has since 2018 considered the DRC at hotspot for the deadly disease, potentially threatening surrounding countries and the rest of Africa. Ebola has killed over 2,200 since an outbreak began in August 2018. The country has been struggling since to get a handle on it.

The latest victim was an 11-month-old girl, who was treated at the same health center as the previous case, a 26-year-old electrician, said Boubacar Diallo, deputy incident manager for the WHO’s Ebola response.

It is not yet clear how the electrician contracted Ebola. He had no known contacts with other Ebola patients and was not a survivor of the virus who could have relapsed, the government said on Friday.

Health officials say they are close tracking some 200 people who may have been exposed to the electrician."

Detroit — Southfield City Clerk Sherikia L. Hawkins was charged Monday with six felony counts over “unauthorized and inaccurate” changes to absentee ballots in the November 2018 election.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson made a joint announcement of the charges in Detroit, calling it a “rare” case.

“Voting is fundamental to the very essence of our democracy,” Nessel said during a Monday news conference. “It is incumbent upon state governments to safeguard the electoral process and ensure that every voter’s right to cast a ballot is protected.”

Allegations that Hawkins altered 193 absentee voter records came to light during the 14-day canvass following the election. Benson said the Oakland County Clerk’s Office reported with the Bureau of Elections “the potential for these irregularities and from there we began our investigation.”

Hawkins’ alleged actions, did not alter the outcome of any election, Benson stressed, and “there were no voters that were disenfranchised.”"

WASHINGTON (AP) — A voter initiative led by Michelle Obama announced support Monday for making it easier for people to register to vote and cast ballots during the coronavirus pandemic.

When We All Vote, a nonpartisan voting initiative, says Americans should have greater access to voting by mail, early in-person voting and online voter registration.

The former first lady, a co-chair of the organization, said expanding access to vote-by-mail, online voter registration and early voting are long overdue “critical steps for this moment.”

Mrs. Obama’s role with the group is her most high-profile effort since she left the White House in early 2017.

Currently, five states — Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington and Utah — conduct all elections entirely by mail, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Forty states, including the five with all-mail elections, and the District of Columbia offer in-person early voting, according to the state legislatures’ association. Did China Just Admit the Obama Administration Funded $3.7 Mil for COVID-19 Development?

Not only did China admit to harvesting and editing over 100 versions of the coronavirus, but they also fingered the National Institute of Health (NIH) as the government agency responsible for awarding close to $4 million in research grants to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

According to an article published by Daily Mail, “The Wuhan Institute of Virology undertook coronavirus experiments on mammals captured more than 1,000 miles away in Yunnan which were funded by a $3.7 million grant from the U.S. government.”

Experimenters grew the virus in a lab and injected it into three-day-old piglets. Intestinal samples from sick piglets were ground up and fed to other piglets as well.

The same article states that it’s a “conspiracy theory” to think that COVID-19 came from the Biosafety Level 4 Laboratory (BSL-4) in Wuhan, and stressed that the virus originated in a bat conveniently located only 20 miles away from the lab at Huanan Seafood Market. There’s a big problem with this however. No bats were ever found being sold at the Huanan Seafood Market.

This seems like an appropriate time to note that the Biosafety Level 4 Laboratory (BSL-4) in Wuhan is a specially designated World Health Organization (WHO) research lab.

In addition to there being zero bats sold at the Chinese wet market, white papers show that in all the years of researching, studying, and yes – editing strains of the coronavirus – the virus has not had the capability of jumping from animal to human without interference by way of genome sequencing.

In other words, the virus did not have the ability of being passed from animal to human until those working in the bioweapons lab edited elements of the virus that would make that possible. Though the Chinese want to place all blame on the virus originating from bats (in a seafood market no less), the science speaks for itself and it’s telling a different story.

The novel coronavirus COVID-19 so closely resembles two different bat SARS-like coronaviruses that it appears COVID-19 was created through “copy and pasting” the exact amino acid similarity and cannot be a natural mutation within bats or any other mammal.

Aramco Cuts Oil Pricing to Asia Even After OPEC+ Output Deal

Saudi Arabia cut most of its crude pricing as the coronavirus hammers oil demand - a clear sign that the kingdom seeks to keep its barrels competitive after producers agreed to coordinate global cuts in output.

State-run Saudi Aramco reduced official selling prices for May exports to Asia and the Mediterranean region, according to a price list seen by Bloomberg. The world’s biggest exporter raised pricing to the U.S. and trimmed discounts for some barrels to northwest Europe.

Lockdowns and stay-at-home orders are choking demand for fuel amid efforts to stop the pandemic. Led by Saudi Arabia, OPEC+ producers agreed Sunday night to slash oil output by nearly a 10th to help remove excess supply. Yet, even this historic global intervention will only partly offset the estimated loss in crude demand.

By decreasing its official selling prices to Asia for a second consecutive month, Aramco is discounting its oil to some of the lowest levels in at least two decades. Asia is Aramco’s biggest market, indicating that the producer is seeking to defend its share of sales in the region even as it trims output. With barrels getting more expensive for buyers in the U.S. and northwestern Europe, Russia’s backyard when it comes to crude sales, Aramco may look to sell less oil there after Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin helped broker the deal aimed at saving their oil industries. Pricier Saudi crude in the U.S. is “designed to keep Trump happy,” Hansen said.

Saudi Arabia, which has been pumping at a record pace this month, took steps to end the oil-price war it unleashed in March by bringing producers and consumers together to make unprecedented supply cuts. The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and partners such as Russia agreed in principle last week to slash production, and they finally settled Sunday on a collective reduction of 9.7 million barrels a day.

Saudi Arabia and Russia both pledged to reduce crude production to about 8.5 million barrels a day each, from nominal starting levels of 11 million barrels a day. The Saudi state producer cut its official selling price for flagship Arab Light crude to buyers in Asia by $4.20 a barrel, to a discount of $7.30 versus the Middle East benchmark. That’s deeper than eight traders and refiners in a Bloomberg survey in late March said they expected, predicting a median reduction of about $3.60.

The actual reductions in differentials for Asia ranged from $2.95 a barrel to as much as $5.50, depending on the type of crude, following deep cuts for April sales.

An official with the World Health Organization cautioned that the coronavirus is likely not seasonal but will rather continue sporadically until researchers are able to make a vaccine.

The WHO's special envoy, Dr. David Nabarro, made the remarks during a Sunday appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press.

“We’re not so sure that it will come in waves in the way that influenza does,” Nabarro explained. “We think it's going to be a virus that stalks the human race for quite a long to come until we can all have a vaccine that will protect us. And that there will be small outbreaks that will emerge sporadically, and they will break through our defenses.

“So, the key for this particular virus is that every community, as a kind of defensive shield, can pick up cases as soon as they appear, isolate them, and stop outbreaks from developing,” he continued. “It's going to be necessary for every single country to have that capacity.”

Nabarro’s comments come a week after President Trump said he was considering a hold on the “vast amounts” of funds the country sends to the WHO each year. Trump has criticized the WHO for not supporting a travel ban he implemented on China and for being too “China-centric.”

'Our supply line is brittle': Thomas Massie warns US could be weeks away from food shortages

Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie warned that the United States could face food shortages due to the “brittle” supply chain, bankrupting farmers and forcing them to euthanize livestock. “We are weeks, not months, away from farmers euthanizing animals that would have been sold for meat/food. Also, fruits and vegetables are going to rot in the fields. A drastic change in policy this week could ameliorate this inevitability,” he tweeted Monday.

Massie shared an interview he did with a local radio show host for the tri-state area of Ohio, West Virginia, and Kentucky, during which he spoke about how the U.S. could see farmers going bankrupt and euthanizing cattle and hogs because meat processing plants have shuttered during the coronavirus pandemic. “You have people running the government that have no clue about how the economy works and how their food gets to the table,” Massie told radio host Tom Roten. “The shocking thing is that farmers are watching the value of their hogs and steers, cows, go down. In fact, they're going to some of the lowest levels ever,” he said. “So the question is: Why is the price of meat going up in the supermarkets and the price of cattle going down at the auction ring? (KGTV) - A USS Theodore Roosevelt sailor who was in ICU at a Navy hospital in Guam due to the coronavirus has died, Navy officials announced Monday.

The unidentified sailor was admitted to the ICU on April 9 after being found unresponsive during isolation in quarters on Naval Base Guam. Officials said the sailor tested positive for COVID-19 on March 30 and had been under a 14-day quarantine.

Navy officials said after the sailor, after testing positive, "was removed from the ship and placed in an isolation house on Naval Base Guam with four other USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71) Sailors. Like other Sailors in isolation, he received medical checks twice daily from Navy medical teams."

The San Diego-based aircraft carrier has been docked in Guam since late March after coronavirus cases mounted aboard the ship.

Navy officials said 585 members - over 10 percent - of the ship’s 4,800-plus crew have tested positive for COVID-19.

Hey all. Dropping this here, cuz everyone knows that handy safe antiviral defense will end this all quickly.

Today I found a second treatment published 3/4/2020 using Ivermectin. Pardon me if already posted. Hats off to this scientist from India who did a great vid showing how it works.

For TL;DR TLDW I did pic related, showing how Hydroxy Chloroquine and Ivermectin work inside the nanotechnology of the cell, and how they could be used in combination to:

1) stop viral replication with Zinc,

2) AND ALSO maintain the cells antiviral response by using ivermectin to stop any loose virus proteins from entering the nucleus of the cell to shut down the cellular antiviral response.

Ivermectin is another old safe medication used to kill parasites for ages. Most will recognize it's common use in horses.

I have taken it myself after getting a parasite in Egypt. It worked great. No side effects when I did take it.

Note that this is a new report, and is not yet peer reviewed.

However, also note that destruction of microbes in a petri dish is exactly how penecillin was discovered, so, do not discount this research when the ivermectin is causing a 5000 fold reduction in virus. That is some pretty safe, already FDA approved, virus killing power, similar to bacteria killing power shown by penicillin. Worth a look, and can't hurt to try.

Taiwan Releases Email Showing They Warned the WHO in December About Virus, Were Ignored

Well, this may explain why the World Health Organization has been so hostile to Taiwan during the Wuhan virus pandemic, with the Director-General even accusing the tiny nation of racism last week.

Apparently, Taiwan sent an email in December to the WHO warning them about the occurrence of a new disease in China and asking for more information. That information being investigated that early in the game could have saved tens of thousands of lives. Instead, Taiwan was ignored.

Remember, by mid-January, despite these warnings, the WHO was still insisting that there was no evidence of human-to-human transmission. They hadn’t pushed China or sounded the alarm at all, instead letting the communist nation essentially write the press releases being put out. Even when it became clear China had lied and covered up the outbreak, the WHO still accepted their information as fact, something they are continuing to do to this day.

Perhaps the worst part of this regarding Taiwan is how they’ve been treated by people like Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and his lackeys. An official from the WHO literally hung up on an Asian journalist not controlled by China’s state party because she asked about Taiwan. These people are so deep in the pocket of the Chinese that they can’t see daylight out the top.

Rumor has it that President Trump will lay out guidelines for us to begin to reduce funding and put the squeeze on the WHO. That’s absolutely the right move. We’ll see if the media choose to support what’s right or if they side with China again.

Not only did China admit to harvesting and editing over 100 versions of the coronavirus, but they also fingered the National Institute of Health (NIH) as the government agency responsible for awarding close to $4 million in research grants to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

According to an article published by Daily Mail, “The Wuhan Institute of Virology undertook coronavirus experiments on mammals captured more than 1,000 miles away in Yunnan which were funded by a $3.7 million grant from the U.S. government.”

Experimenters grew the virus in a lab and injected it into three-day-old piglets. Intestinal samples from sick piglets were ground up and fed to other piglets as well.

The same article states that it’s a “conspiracy theory” to think that COVID-19 came from the Biosafety Level 4 Laboratory (BSL-4) in Wuhan, and stressed that the virus originated in a bat conveniently located only 20 miles away from the lab at Huanan Seafood Market. There’s a big problem with this however. No bats were ever found being sold at the Huanan Seafood Market.

This seems like an appropriate time to note that the Biosafety Level 4 Laboratory (BSL-4) in Wuhan is a specially designated World Health Organization (WHO) research lab.

In other words, the virus did not have the ability of being passed from animal to human until those working in the bioweapons lab edited elements of the virus that would make that possible. Though the Chinese want to place all blame on the virus originating from bats (in a seafood market no less), the science speaks for itself and it’s telling a different story.

Could this be the true reason behind NIH, under the direction of Dr. Anthony Fauci, and during the Obama administration in 2015, awarding $3.7 million in grants to the Chinese for further research?

We know that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation collaborated with the National Institute of Health (NIH) investing $100 million each to develop gene-based cures for AIDS and sickle cell, but is that as far as their connections reach? How much has BMGF donated to NIH over the years?

Call me crazy, but I don’t trust anyone who has such high stakes in offering a solution that includes a vaccine with technology that houses everything about you and your medical history by connecting you to “The Cloud”. Why would anyone trust a software engineer who created a computer virus to make money off of an antivirus? Gates is looking to repeat the process, only this time using our bodies. He has no medical degree, but his obsession with vaccinations and eugenics cannot be ignored.

But, what if China is only partially lying and the weaponization of the virus? What if it’s weaponization wasn’t done at the P4 bioweapon lab in Wuhan, but by the recently indicted Harvard Professor Charles Lieber who ran his own facility in exchange for a monthly payment of $50,000 by Wuhan University of Technology as a “Strategic Scientist”? The Chinese government also paid Lieber $1.5 million to set up and run the nearby lab, according to a court affidavit.

Why wouldn’t the Chinese government be interested in a Harvard Professor whose expertise lies in NANOSCIENCE? It’s impossible to not add 2+2 here and come up with 4. Conspiracy theory, or just rational speculation?

Was Lieber being paid to work on the weaponization of the virus, or even a vaccine for the virus?

So what does all this mean? It appears that while working on weaponizing the known bat-like SARS-CoV-1 (coronavirus) in China, a new strain was created that allows for the permeability of human cells.

SoftBank eyes $16.7bn investment loss at Vision Fund

TOKYO - SoftBank Group expects to book a loss of 1.8 trillion yen ($16.7 billion) on the value of its investments at its Vision Fund, the world's largest vehicle for tech startups. The steep loss follows a troubled year when the near-collapse of the WeWork shared office space business, one of the fund's highest-profile investments, cast a shadow over the Japanese tech group and its CEO, Masayoshi Son.

In a statement on Monday, SoftBank said it now projects a net loss of 750 billion yen for the fiscal year ended March, compared with a 1.41 trillion yen profit in the previous year. It will be the company's biggest loss since going public in 1994, and the first annual net loss since the year ended March 2005, according to Capital IQ.

The nearly $100 billion Vision Fund counts the sovereign wealth funds of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates as investors. It had stakes in 88 companies as of December including WeWork, ride-hailing company Uber Technologies and Chinese short-video app owner ByteDance. The 1.8 trillion yen investment loss at the Vision Fund stemmed "from a decrease in the fair value of investments due to the deteriorating market environment," the company said.

SoftBank said the investment losses at the Vision Fund would push the company to a 1.35 trillion yen operating loss. It posted a 2.07 trillion yen operating profit in the previous year, excluding U.S. mobile subsidiary Sprint, which recently merged with rival T-Mobile. SoftBank also said it would book a non-operating loss of 800 billion yen on investments held outside the Vision Fund, including WeWork and OneWeb. Some of the losses will be offset by an increase in income on equity method investments related to Alibaba Group Holding, the Chinese internet group where SoftBank is the largest investor. "These forecasts are intended to provide investors with prompt information on estimates of financial results in light of the deterioration in the current market environment," SoftBank said.

Son is trying to persuade investors to keep faith in the group despite a sharp gap between its market capitalization and the value of the stakes it holds in Alibaba and other companies.

Last month, Son launched a plan for SoftBank to sell $41 billion of its assets to pay down debt and buy back shares to try to enhance its value. SoftBank Chief Financial Officer Yoshimitsu Goto told the Nikkei Asian Review last week that the group would stick to its plans despite the gyrations in markets sparked by the coronavirus pandemic.

'We're going to let the science, facts and data drive our decision-making'

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (R) announced plans to launch a statewide trial Monday to formally test the effectiveness of hydroxychloroquine — the anti-malaria drug touted by President Trump — against the novel coronavirus.

The action makes South Dakota the first state in the nation to implement a trial to test the drug's effectiveness in treating and preventing COVID-19.

In order to collect data about the potential treatment, doctors in the state have been instructed to prescribe the drug, along with the antibiotic azithromycin, to willing COVID-19 patients who desire to be a part of the trial.

"From Day One, I've said we're going to let the science, facts and data drive our decision-making in South Dakota," Noem said in a statement, according to Fox News.

Noem said that she has been in cooperation with the federal government in preparation for the trial.

"I made direct requests to President Trump and Vice President Pence to supply us with enough hydroxychloroquine so that it could be made available for every hospitalized person the state may have, as well as those for health care workers on the frontlines and those in the most vulnerable populations," Noem said.

"Today, I'm pleased to report we have received the initial doses we need," she added.

President Trump has been optimistic about hydroxychloroquine since three separate studies showed it to be a potentially effective at treating and preventing the disease. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration fast-tracked the drug for the treatment of COVID-19 in late March.

Health experts such as Dr. Anthony Fauci have tempered the president's optimism, saying that proof of the drug's effectiveness is anecdotal.

"[Tests were] not done in a controlled clinical trial. So you really can't make any definitive statement about it," Fauci suggested, according to ABC News.

Now, South Dakota will attempt to scientifically settle that issue.

Surgeon General: We’re Working with Real Coronavirus Data Now, Not Models

Surgeon General Jerome Adams emphasized in an interview on Monday with Sirius XM’s Breitbart News Daily host Alex Marlow that the Coronavirus Task Force is working with real data from the United States, instead of predictive models.

“What the American people need to know now is we actually have data, and so we’re tracking that data,” Adams said during the interview.

Previously, the task force was working with predictive models, frequently criticized because of their tendency to exaggerate the possible effect of the virus on the United States. Models predicting the deaths of millions and hundreds of thousands in America appear to be overblown, as the real-time data is showing the death count much lower.

Adams said that the models usually took data from different cultures and places around the globe, but they were able to track more accurately what could happen in the United States based on real data gathered in places such as California and New York.

“We’re following this data every single day, and we’re giving that data to communities so that they can make informed and intelligent decisions about when and where to reopen,” he said.

A significant indicator for communities being allowed to reopen, Adams said, was actual testing data, not a predictive model.

“I feel confident that some places will start to reopen in May and June. Other places won’t; it will be piece by piece, bit by bit, but will be data-driven,” he said.

Adams praised South Korea and Singapore, which closed their borders early, just like the United States did with travelers from China. But he said there are lessons learned across the board.

“No one alive has dealt with this before, and no one has got it exactly right,” he said.

NY, NJ, CT Governors Plan ‘Regional’ Reopening of Economies

The Democrat governors of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut are discussing plans Monday for a coordinated regional reopening of their economies after the coronavirus pandemic subsides.

“It all has to be coordinated regionally,” New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) said during a briefing in Albany Sunday, reported the Center Square. “We closed everything down in a coordinated fashion, and we did it regionally. … That partnership is very important for our individual states and our collective states.”

Cuomo said he would be speaking with New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont about a coordinated effort.

In his own state, Cuomo issued two more executive orders, one directing employers in essential businesses to provide staff with masks while interacting with the public, and another to expand antibody testing.

“The keys to reopening the economy are continuing to limit the spread of the virus and ramping up antibody testing,” the governor said. “These measures will be key to getting people back to work and making sure they are protected when they do go back.”

The state is suffering from a dramatic drop in sales tax revenue during the current lockdown, and some economists suggest the consumer purchasing trends that existed prior to the onset of the coronavirus crisis may become a permanent fixture in the post-pandemic landscape.

“I can’t recall a time when I’ve seen greater economic uncertainty in my 40 years of doing this,” DataCore Partners economist Don Klepper-Smith, former Connecticut chief economic adviser, told CT Mirror.

“Before the coronavirus this was an economy based on consumption and more consumption,” he explained. “All of that is going to be revamped now. People are going to take inventory of what’s important in life.”

Murphy, said Sunday on CBS News’s Face the Nation, that any economic restart must evolve after the infection caused by the novel coronavirus has subsided:

Any sort of economic reopening or recovery depends first and foremost on a complete health care recovery. UK National Health Service Trials ‘Trump Pills’ to Treat Coronavirus

Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) is to trial anti-malaria drugs dubbed “Trump pills” by some supporters of the U.S. President after he touted them as a possible “gamechanger” in the fight against coronavirus.

President Trump tweeted that “HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE & AZITHROMYCIN, taken together, have a real chance to be one of the biggest game changers in the history of medicine” after anecdotal information suggested they may improve coronavirus patients’ prospects.

This drew the ire of much of the mainstream media and sections of the medical establishment, as the drugs’ efficacy has not been definitively proven in clinical trials, with the evidence for its usefulness, such as it is, coming largely from China, controversial French studies, and individual clinicians such as Dr Anthony Cardillo of Los Angeles and Dr Vladimir Zelenko of New York — who had claimed a 100 per cent success rate using hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin in combination with zinc sulfate.

President Trump has taken a decidedly anti-bureaucratic approach to whether or not clinicians should experiment with such treatments, saying: “What do you have to lose? Take it.”

“[W]e don’t have time to go and say, ‘Gee, let’s take a couple of years and test it out, and let’s go and test with the test tubes and the laboratories,’” the President said in response to critics highlighting the lack of definitive proof that the drugs work — an endorsement which has caused prominent supporters such as cartoonist and commentator Scott Adams to dub them “Trump pills”.

In the United Kingdom, meanwhile, a correspondent to The Telegraph has previously criticised Chris Whitty, the Chief Medical Officer for England, for allegedly having “banned doctors from treating Covid-19 with anything other than paracetamol and, in severe cases, oxygen”.

“Professor Whitty’s position is that British doctors may not use therapies that have not undergone double blind controlled trials here,” claimed the correspondent, one Dr Steven R Hopkins.

“This could condemn many thousands to avoidable death through a failure to recognise that different rules should apply when patients are dying at such a rate… hydroxychloroquine is well-known, with a well-understood side-effect profile. It is safe,” he suggested.

Now the National Health Service (NHS) does appear to be conceding that hydroxychloroquine may have some merit, with St Bartholomew’s Hospital, known colloquially as “Barts”, and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital trialling its use in some patients.

“Barts Health NHS Trust has convened an expert clinical group to consider novel medications in the treatment of Covid-19,” a spokesman told The Telegraph.

“The evidence base is limited for all such drugs and we are actively recruiting patients to major clinical trials that have been prioritised by the Department of Health and Social Care.

That’s Neel Kashkari, the head of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, painting a rather gloomy picture in a CBS interview on Sunday morning of what lies ahead for the U.S. economy as the country continues to battle the coronavirus pandemic.

Kashkari, while acknowledging the downside of what a prolonged shutdown could mean for the economy, said the U.S., “barring some health-care miracle,” is looking at an 18-month strategy of rolling shutdowns based on what has happened in other countries.

“We could have these waves of flare-ups, controls, flare-ups and controls, until we actually get a therapy or a vaccine,” he said. “We need to find ways of getting the people who are healthy, who are at lower risk, back to work and then providing the assistance to those who are most at risk, who are going to need to be quarantined or isolated for the foreseeable future.”

Looking ahead, Kashkari doesn’t envision a quick rebound for the U.S. economy, which has already suffered more than 16 million job losses in the past three weeks.

“This could be a long, hard road that we have ahead of us until we get to either an effective therapy or a vaccine,” he said. “It’s hard for me to see a V-shaped recovery under that scenario.”

Millions of Spaniards are allowed to resume their 'non-essential' jobs as 'industrial lockdown' is lifted and lowest number of cases for 24 days is announced - while Italy prepares to open some shops tomorrow

Spain is starting to return to work today as non-essential workers such as factory and construction personnel were allowed to resume their jobs after a two-week ban.

Police were handing out millions of masks at Spanish metro stations today as some people returned to work, although the wider coronavirus lockdown remains in force.

The people returning today include metalworkers, builders, cleaners, factory and shipyard workers and people involved in sanitation and security.

One construction union said the resumption in the materials, wood and furniture industries would lead to at least 1.7million people returning to work, although today is a public holiday in some regions of Spain.

The two-week 'hibernation' of non-essential business was imposed on March 30, making the lockdown even tougher than in Britain where people have always been able to travel if they cannot work from home.

There was further encouragement for Spain today as the number of new cases fell to 3,477, the fewest since March 20. The daily death toll also dropped back to 517 after jumping sharply to 619 yesterday.

Meanwhile, Italy will allow bookshops, stationery shops and stores selling children's clothes to re-open tomorrow in the first loosening of Europe's longest lockdown.

In Denmark, schools and daycare centres will re-open on Wednesday, allowing some parents to return to work.

Austria is also opening some shops this week, but France's president Emmanuel Macron is expected to warn later that the lockdown there will last weeks longer.

Virginia governor makes Election Day a holiday and expands early voting

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam announced Sunday that he signed a series of new measures into law aimed at expanding access to voting in the commonwealth.

The new legislation will establish Election Day as a holiday, remove the requirement that voters show a photo ID prior to casting a ballot and, expand early voting to be allowed 45 days before an election without a stated reason.

"Voting is a fundamental right, and these new laws strengthen our democracy by making it easier to cast a ballot, not harder," Northam said in a statement. "No matter who you are or where you live in Virginia, your voice deserves to be heard. I'm proud to sign these bills into law."

Several states and cities have already made Election Day a civic holiday, including Delaware, Hawaii, Kentucky and New York. State offices typically close, though it depends on the state whether employees are entitled to paid time off to vote.

Proponents say making Election Day a holiday could improve voter turnout. But Election Day may not become a federal holiday anytime soon - it's drawn deep division along party lines.

In January 2019, Democrats proposed a sweeping bill that would make Election Day a national holiday among other measures. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the measure would pay government workers to "hang out at the polls during an election" or campaign for candidates.

The new legislation also repeals the current Lee-Jackson day holiday which honored Robert E. Lee and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson as "defenders of causes." Both men owned slaves and fought to preserve slavery in the US.

The holiday is typically observed with Civil War-themed parades, wreath layings and reenactments hosted by Confederate memorial groups, though these celebrations are increasingly unpopular. Defenders of the holiday say it honors Virginia history.

"We need to make Election Day a holiday," Northam had said in his State of the Commonwealth speech earlier this year.

"We can do it by ending the Lee-Jackson holiday that Virginia holds ... It commemorates a lost cause. It's time to move on."

A Georgia man could face up to 20 years behind bars for attempting to sell nonexistent personal protective equipment (PPE) worth $750million to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Christopher Parris, 39, was arrested on Friday after he allegedly made a series of fraudulent misrepresentations to secure orders from Veterans Affairs for 125 million face masks and other PPE, according to a statement from Attorney General William Barr.

A complaint alleges that Parris promised that he could obtain millions of genuine 3M masks from domestic factories 'when he knew that fulfilling the orders would not be possible'.

Jordan: Two TV executives arrested for airing virus complaints

The Jordanian military has arrested two television executives, the owner of Roya TV and its news director after the channel aired a segment featuring labourers complaining about their inability to work due to the government-mandated coronavirus lockdown.

Roya TV released a statement on Friday confirming Thursday’s arrest of the channel’s news director, Mohammad al-Khalidi, and the general manager and owner, Fares Sayegh.

The statement said, “the public prosecution at the state security court has ordered the detention of Sayegh and al-Khalidi for 14 days over the airing of a news segment.”

It added that “Roya Channel supports the Jordanian government efforts throughout all the crises as part of the Jordanian media that works professionally and patriotically,” and respects “the rule of law… and the fair Jordanian judiciary.”

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), however, condemned the move, saying the “Jordanian authorities should be working with media outlets to inform citizens about the wide-ranging impacts of COVID-19, not jailing members of the press who expose public concerns about the virus and the government response to it.”

Sherif Mansour, the CPJ coordinator in the region called for the immediate release of al-Khalidi and Sayegh, and the resumption of “their work without interference from the authorities.”

Roya’s report, which aired on Wednesday, showed a group of people in the capital, Amman, saying they were forced to break curfew and beg after the government’s coronavirus lockdown left them without any income.

“I need to feed my family, what should I do now? Should I resort to stealing or selling drugs? Should we start begging on the streets”, one man said, according to Al Jazeera.

Amazon is hiring 75,000 additional workers after it filled more than 100,000 positions in the last month. The company has added more warehouse and delivery workers across the country to help meet a surge in demand tied to the coronavirus outbreak. Amazon is hiring an additional 75,000 workers at its facilities, on top of the 100,000 new positions it created last month, the company said Monday.

In March, the company said it would hire additional warehouse and delivery workers across the country amid a surge in online shopping during the coronavirus outbreak. Since then, Amazon said it has hired more than 100,000 new employees and, as a result, is staffing up even more to help fulfill orders. “We continue to see increased demand as our teams support their communities, and are going to continue to hire, creating an additional 75,000 jobs to help serve customers during this unprecedented time,” the company said.

As it continues to hire more workers, Amazon has also raised employees’ hourly pay and doubled overtime pay for warehouse workers. Through the end of April, warehouse and delivery workers can earn an additional $2 per hour in the U.S., 2 pounds per hour in the U.K., and approximately 2 euros per hour in many EU countries. Amazon currently pays $15 per hour or more in some areas of the U.S. for warehouse and delivery jobs. Amazon has announced several benefits changes on top of the pay increases. The company has allowed workers to take unlimited unpaid time off and provides two weeks of paid leave for workers who tested positive for the virus or are in quarantine.

Amazon said it expects to continue investing in pay increases, benefits and safety improvements for warehouse and delivery workers. The company previously expected to spend $350 million on pay increases, but now estimates it will spend more than $500 million on those efforts. Despite the pay increases and benefits changes, Amazon workers from at least three facilities have staged protests to call for the company to better protect workers amid the coronavirus outbreak. A dozen workers told CNBC they felt Amazon needed to provide employees with paid time off, among other concerns. The company has faced increased demand from customers on multiple fronts amid the coronavirus outbreak.

With shoppers stocking up online, services such as Prime Now and the Amazon Fresh grocery delivery service reported limited availability for several days or told shoppers they were unable to make deliveries. On Sunday, Amazon said it would require new grocery delivery customers to join a waitlist and shorten some Whole Foods stores’ hours for the public so that employees can more quickly fulfill online orders. Meanwhile, Amazon has struggled to keep products in stock on its online marketplace. Last month, Amazon said it would begin prioritizing household staples and medical supplies at its fulfillment centers.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday announced a nationwide lockdown for the end of the Passover holiday and the Mimouna festival, while warning Israelis they will continue to face some restrictions on their lives until a vaccine for the coronavirus is developed.

From Tuesday at 5 p.m. until Thursday at 5 a.m., Netanyahu said Israelis would be barred from leaving their hometowns, or in the case of Jerusalem, the neighborhoods in which they live.

The White House released a statement Monday shutting down the mainstream “ridiculous” media reports alleging that the President is considering firing Coronavirus Task Force member and Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr. Anthony Fauci saying the story is completely false and that the President has no plans to fire him.

The President retweeted a tweet on Thursday from DeAnna Lorraine, a former Republican congressional candidate who attempted to unseat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who argued that it’s “Time to #FireFauci” over criticism that Trump didn’t act early enough to mitigate the spread if the coronavirus.

Trump, however, didn’t acknowledge Lorraine’s call to fire the doctor and merely slammed the criticism against his actions in combating the virus, “Sorry Fake News, it’s all on tape. I banned China long before people spoke up. Thank you @OAN.”

Trump: Obama Hasn't Endorsed Biden Because 'He Knows Something That You Don't Know

President Donald Trump asserted on Wednesday the reason former President Barack Obama hasn’t endorsed his former vice president, Joe Biden, is because the 44th commander in chief “knows something.”

The context of Trump’s remarks during the daily coronavirus task force briefing was a question regarding Sen. Bernie Sanders’ announcement earlier in the day that he was suspending his presidential campaign but would hold on to his delegates and seek to win more in the upcoming primary contests.

“Now, is he dropping out or not?” Trump asked. “That’s not dropping out. When you keep your delegates and then you want more delegates before you get to the convention, that’s a weird deal going on there. I don’t know what’s happening.”

The president then noted that Obama has yet to endorse Biden.

“And I don’t know why President Obama hasn’t supported Joe Biden a long time ago,” Trump said.

“There is something he feels is wrong. Why isn’t — he’ll come out. I’m sure he’s got to come out at some point because he certainly doesn’t want to see me for four more years.”

The president continued, suggesting there is a reason Obama hasn’t endorsed Biden, which he felt he knew, but the reporters were not dialed in on yet.

“He knows something that you don’t know, that I think I know, but you don’t know. So it’ll be interesting,” Trump said, referring to Obama.

He left the mystery hanging out there and moved on to the next question.

Coronavirus News: Disney World Furloughs 43,000 Union Workers As Parks Remain Closed

As Disney's (DIS) parks remain closed due to the coronavirus, the entertainment company will reportedly furlough 43,000 union workers, effective Sunday.

According to the Services Trade Council Union, Disney will pay 100% of health insurance for the affected workers for up to 12 months. Less than 200 workers will remain working for Disney during the furlough period.

"We are pleased to have reached an agreement with the Service Trades Council Union that will maintain members’ health insurance benefits coverage, educational support and additional employee assistance programs during a temporary furlough effective April 19," Walt Disney Resort told CNBC. "This agreement provides an easier return to work when our community recovers from the impact of COVID-19. We are grateful to have worked together in good faith to help our Cast Members navigate these unprecedented times."

A few weeks earlier, Disney also furloughed some non-union workers at its theme parks in the U.S. The company also stopped collecting payments for its annual park passes. According to the news outlet, the company has about 177,000 cast members, including workers in its theme parks and retail locations.

Disney closed its theme parks around the world infinitely after large gatherings were restricted to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Its theme parks in Asia were closed in February with its parks in the U.S. and Paris closed in March.

Because of the impact that the coronavirus is having on Disney and its employees, Bob Iger, executive chairman of the company, will not collect a salary while CEO Bob Chapek will take a 50% pay cut.

Shares of Disney stock were down 4.39% as of 10:27 a.m. EDT on Monday.

Trump: Decision Coming ‘Shortly’ on Reopening US Economy

President Donald Trump said Monday he will make a decision in the near future on reopening the country after conferring with governors and other officials, as the White House forms a second CCP virus task force with the intention of restarting the shuttered economy.

“For the purpose of creating conflict and confusion, some in the Fake News Media are saying that it is the Governors decision to open up the states, not that of the President of the United States & the Federal Government,” Trump wrote Monday on Twitter.

Trump said that the notion that governors are the ones who are responsible “is incorrect.”

“It is the decision of the President, and for many good reasons,” he added on Twitter. “With that being said, the Administration and I are working closely with the Governors, and this will continue.”

Trump is able to issue federal regulations to prevent the spread of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, a type of novel coronavirus that causes the disease COVID-19. However, it is not clear if he has the authority to reverse public health restrictions put into place by state or local authorities.

Governor Ralph Northam Repeals Virginia Voter ID Laws, Expands Early Voting Programs

KKK-Blackface Governor Ralph Northam (D) on Monday signed sweeping legislation repealing voter ID laws and expanded early voting programs.

“Voting is a fundamental right, and these new laws strengthen our democracy by making it easier to cast a ballot, not harder,” said Governor Northam in a statement. “No matter who you are or where you live in Virginia, your voice deserves to be heard. I’m proud to sign these bills into law.”

Northam signed legislation allowing early voting 45 days prior to an election without even stating an excuse.

Voters used to have to provide a reason for absentee voting from an approved list why they were unable to vote on Election Day.

House Bill 19 and Senate Bill 65, remove the requirement that voters show a photo ID prior to casting a ballot.

“Voter ID laws disenfranchise individuals who may not have access to photo identification, and disproportionately impact low-income individuals, racial and ethnic minorities, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities,” the legislation sponsored by Delegate Joe Lindsey and Senator Mamie Locke read.

Northam also declared Election Day a holiday and he had to repeal another existing holiday in order to maintain the same number of state holidays.

Which holiday did Northam repeal?

Lee-Jackson Day holiday which was established over 100 years ago to honor Confederate generals Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson.

Northam also signed another bill on Monday that automatically registers voters at the DMV.

States have found that hundreds of illegal voters stemming from “Motor Voter Laws” went on to cast ballots which is why Democrats push for these laws.

Early voting, no voter ID, motor voter laws and no excuse as to why a voter is using an absentee ballot only increases the chances of voter fraud.

My conversation with Minnesota State Senator, Dr. Scott Jensen, took place after I read the explosive statement he made to FOX News, on April 9th. So let’s start with his earlier FOX statement [1]:

“Right now Medicare has determined that if you have a COVID-19 admission to the hospital you’ll get paid $13,000. If that COVID-19 patient goes on a ventilator, you get $39,000; three times as much. Nobody can tell me, after 35 years in the world of medicine, that sometimes those kinds of things [don’t] [have] impact on what we do…”

I reached out to Senator Jensen, and obtained clarification. Jensen told me his remark pertained to patients with Medicare coverage. And the 2 payouts he mentioned are standard insurance payments from Medicare which would go to the hospital.

Of course, he explained, some hospitals have a pay-share plan with their staff doctors. Therefore, a windfall for the hospital is passed along to those doctors.

Jensen told me: Take a Medicare patient who is diagnosed with simple non-COVID pneumonia. The hospital would receive a one-time Medicare lump-sum payout of $4600.

However, if that Medicare patient is diagnosed with COVID-19 pneumonia, the Medicare coverage is a one-time $13,000 payment. And if the hospital puts that COVID-19 pneumonia patient on a ventilator, the one-time payment is $39,000. NOTE: It doesn’t matter how long these patients stay in hospital—there is only going to be one lump-sum insurance payment.

So, I infer, there are several types of financial incentives for hospitals—

ONE: Diagnose as many people as possible with COVID-19.

TWO: Diagnose as many people as possible with COVID-19 who have light symptoms—making it easy to move them out of the hospital quickly.

THREE: Put as many COVID patients as possible on ventilators for as short a time as possible.

Under the heading of “diagnose as many patients as possible with COVID-19,” there is also the key question of what constitutes “a COVID-19 patient”—and how the use of that label can be multiplied and manipulated. Senator Jensen made a few choice comments to FOX on this subject as well.

From FOX News: “Dr. Scott Jensen, a Minnesota family physician who is also a Republican state senator, told ‘The Ingraham Angle’ Wednesday that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) guidelines for doctors to certify whether a patient has died of coronavirus are ‘ridiculous’ and could be misleading the public.”

“Host Laura Ingraham read Jensen the [CDC] guidelines, which say: ‘In cases where a definite diagnosis of COVID cannot be made but is suspected or likely (e.g. the circumstances are compelling with a reasonable degree of certainty) it is acceptable to report COVID-19 on a death certificate as ‘probable’ or ‘presumed.’”

“In response, Jensen told Ingraham the CDC’s death certificate manual tells physicians to focus on ‘precision and specificity,’ but the coronavirus death certification guidance runs completely counter to that axiom.”

Attorney General Barr Issues Guidance to Protect Facilities from Unmanned Aircraft and Unmanned Aircraft Systems

Today, Attorney General William P. Barr issued Guidance to Department of Justice components regarding counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) actions authorized under the Preventing Emerging Threats Act of 2018 (the Act).

“This guidance was the product of extensive collaboration between the Department of Justice, the Department of Transportation and the FAA,” said Attorney General William P. Barr. “It will ensure that we are positioned for the future to address this new threat, and that we approach our counter-drone efforts responsibly, with full respect for the Constitution, privacy, and the safety of the national airspace.”

The Guidance outlines the process by which authorized department components can request designation of facilities or assets for protection under the Act, and ensures coordination with the FAA when any C-UAS action authorized under the Act might affect aviation safety, civilian aviation and aerospace operations, aircraft airworthiness, and the use of the airspace. This includes conducting a risk-based assessment in consultation with the Secretary of Transportation to examine potential airspace impacts and other considerations.

“The Guidance is another important step forward,” said Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey A. Rosen, who is responsible under the Guidance for reviewing and approving DOJ components’ protection requests. “The number of unmanned aircraft is increasing rapidly, as is their importance to the economy. By further enabling the Department’s efforts to mitigate threats posed by errant or malicious UAS, the Guidance helps to bring us closer to the larger objective of ensuring all forms of air traffic in the National Airspace System operate lawfully and safely.”

Importantly, the Guidance also reflects the department’s dedication to protecting privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties. It contains explicit limitations on the retention and use of any data collected during the course of counter-drone operations and requires each component deploying C-UAS technologies to train personnel on privacy and civil liberties in that context. The Guidance further contains testing, procurement, and training requirements for authorized department personnel.

Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services Agrees to Pay Over $3.9 Million to Resolve False Claims Act Liability in Connection with SNAP Quality Control

Another state money laundering scheme, give bonuses to contractor, contractor slips money back to political keaders

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) has agreed to pay the United States $3,984,254 to resolve allegations that it violated the False Claims Act in its administration of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Department of Justice announced today. Until 2008, SNAP was known as the Food Stamp Program.

“SNAP is an important vehicle for helping families in need,” said Assistant Attorney General Jody Hunt of the Department of Justice’s Civil Division. “This settlement is an example of the department’s commitment to ensuring that taxpayer funds are spent appropriately so that the public can have confidence in the integrity of vital programs like SNAP.”

“Although it is appalling that these actions occurred within a state agency entrusted with assisting vulnerable and needy residents, I am heartened that LDCFS has resolved its liability and cooperated with our investigation,” said U.S. Attorney William D. Hyslop for the Eastern District of Washington. “Together with our partners in the Justice Department’s Civil Division and the USDA, we will continue to investigate and hold accountable those who misuse and wrongfully obtain SNAP funding.”

The settlement resolves allegations that beginning in 2011, DCFS contracted with a consultant known as Julie Osnes Consulting LLC (Osnes Consulting) to provide advice and recommendations designed to lower its SNAP quality control error rate. The United States alleged that Osnes Consulting’s recommendations, as implemented by DCFS, injected bias into DCFS’s quality control process and resulted in DCFS submitting false quality control data and information to USDA, for which it received unentitled performance bonuses for fiscal years 2012 and 2013.

This is the sixth settlement in this matter, and the fifth settlement with a state agency for manipulating its SNAP quality control findings. The United States has reached previous settlements with state agencies in Virginia, Wisconsin, Texas, and Alaska, as well as with Osnes Consulting and its owner, Julie Osnes. Including this settlement, the United States has now recovered over $36 million in connection with this investigation.

American economic activity has declined in recent weeks at a rate not seen since the Great Depression.

Former prime minister Levi Eshkol once said that “when the US sneezes, Israel gets pneumonia.” With the US expected to enter a recession because of businesses shutting down due to the coronavirus pandemic, Israel may need to hold back requests for additional military aid, some experts have speculated.

American economic activity has declined in recent weeks at a rate not seen since the Great Depression, and the International Monetary Fund predicted last week that the world is heading for a recession greater than the one in 2008 due to the coronavirus shutdown.

Combine that with a US political climate in which foreign aid and involvement in the affairs of other countries has fallen out of favor, and this could mean Israel will not be able to rely on the US as much as it has in the past.

“Whenever Israel had a crisis, we could get help from the US,” recounted Lior Weintraub, a former chief of staff of the Israeli Embassy to the US. “This is a crisis where it will be very hard to ask America for things it may not be able to afford to give, and we don’t know how long it’ll continue.”

In theory, US defense aid to Israel is locked in. The 2016 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is a pledge from the US to provide $38 billion in military aid to Israel over a decade, beginning in 2018. Israel is to receive $3.3b. in military financing per annum. In addition, rather than have Israel ask each year for missile defense aid as it did in the past, the MOU designates an additional $500 million each year for that purpose.

Plus, the only time that American aid to Israel was cut in recent years was when there were across-the-board budget cuts following Hurricane Katrina in 2006.

If Washington ends up making across-the-board budget cuts like it did in 2006, Israel plans to behave as it did then and not ask for an exemption to the rule, which means that appropriations to Israel would likely be cut. However, no policy decisions have been made about other possible US responses to a recession.

Chkalovsky provides air support for Star City, Russia, Yuri Gagarin Cosmonauts Training Center, and other elements of the Soviet space program and Russian Federal Space Agency. It is also a major transport base, with the 8th Special Purpose Aviation Division (since 2009-10, the 6991st Air Base) operating the Antonov An-12, An-72, Tupolev Tu-154, Ilyushin Il-76, and Il-86VKP. Chkalovsky received USSR's first Il-76K for cosmonaut training on 23 July 1977. On the 27th of March 1968, Yuri Gagarin and Vladimir Seryogin died in a MiG-15UTI that set off from this base, it crashed near the town of Kirzhach.

NY Fed Lays Out Plan to Pare Back Repo Liquidity Injections. The bank cited improved money-market conditions.

The Open Market Trading Desk (the Desk) at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York has released the schedule of large-scale overnight and term repurchase agreement (repo) operations for the monthly period from April 14, 2020 through May 13, 2020.

The Desk intends to reduce the frequency of some repo operations during this monthly period in light of more stable repo market conditions. Beginning on Monday, May 4, 2020, the Desk intends to return to regularly conducting one overnight repo operation per day in the morning, and to remove the afternoon overnight repo operation. In addition, the frequency of three-month repo operations will be reduced to once every two weeks from once a week. The Desk will continue to conduct one-month repo operations once per week.

The Desk will continue to adjust repo operations as appropriate to ensure that the supply of reserves remains ample and to support the smooth functioning of short-term U.S. dollar funding markets, consistent with the FOMC directive to the Desk.
