Georgia Democrat Becomes First To Endorse Trump, Credits His Work For Black Community
A Democratic Georgia state representative officially endorsed President Donald Trump, making him the first state-elected Democrat in Georgia to do so. Bucking his party, state Rep. Vernon Jones on Tuesday endorsed Trump for the 2020 presidential election, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The Democratic lawmaker not only cited Trump’s efforts to grow the U.S. economy, but also his work to help the African-American community.
“It’s very simple to me. President Trump’s handling of the economy, his support for historically black colleges and his criminal justice initiatives drew me to endorse his campaign,” Jones said Tuesday. He added: “There are a lot of African-Americans who clearly see and appreciate he’s doing something that’s never been done before. When you look at the unemployment rates among black Americans before the pandemic, they were at historic lows. That’s just a fact.”
The renegade Democrat touts a long history in Georgia politics. Elected in 2016 to the Georgia House of Representatives, Jones represents the state’s 91st House District — a heavily Democratic area with a substantial minority population. He previously served as the CEO of DeKalb, and had served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1993 to 2001. Although he does not represent a swing district, Jones has worked alongside GOP lawmakers in the Georgia Capitol on a number of conservative initiatives. He cosponsored a bill earlier in 2020 that called for a crackdown on those living unlawfully the United States, and he has previously posted positive comments about the president on social media, according to the AJC.
“President Trump is increasing his support in the Black community because people know that it was under his policies that Black Americans achieved such great success before the economy was artificially interrupted,” Jones said in a statement provided by the White House. “Black voters also appreciate the President’s unprecedented funding of Historically Black Colleges and Universities and his commitment to criminal justice reform.”
Jones said he is not switching parties, but is making the endorsement because he believes Trump is a transformative figure in the White House. “A philosopher once said, ‘One courageous man in the crowd is a majority.’ I’ve got the courage to express my convictions,” the Democratic lawmaker said. “I believe that Donald Trump is the best person to lead this country going forward.”

Border wall construction surpasses 150 miles: CBP
The construction of the wall at the southern border has been continuing despite the shutdown of much of daily life due to the coronavirus - with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announcing this week that more than 150 miles of new wall have been built. According to CBP statistics, 156 miles of new primary and secondary border wall system have been constructed since January 2017. Of that, 140 miles of primary and 11 miles of secondary wall replaces old or dilapidated wall. It means that there are a total of 656 miles of primary barriers and 42 miles of secondary barriers at the border when including those built before President Trump took office.
A CBP official told Fox News last month that wall construction schedules have so far not been affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Two miles of primary wall and five miles of secondary wall are being installed at sites where there was no previous wall built. This stat is likely to continue to disappoint immigration hawks, who argue that almost the entirety of the border wall is replacing old structure, rather than plugging gaps in the border. Officials have noted that getting permission to build on private land is a lengthy process, but one that is starting to bear fruit, meaning that construction of more wall in places where no structure existed would start to accelerate. Additionally, the administration has pushed back on phrases such as “replacement wall” when it comes to describing the wall structure that is being built over old or dilapidated structures - arguing that new structures are so radically different to count as “new wall.”
Compared with the landing mat barriers in place, that could be easily driven or climbed over, the new 30-foot structures - complete with cameras, anti-climb technology, access roads, lights and other tech - are considerable upgrades. “I use this analogy: when someone builds a new modern smart five-bedroom house in place of a dilapidated run-down shack, you do not call that a replacement house, you call that a new house,” Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf said in January.
Much of the fight for the administration has centered on the question of funding - but a series of efforts both in Congress and in the courts to allow the rechanneling of money from the Pentagon have paid off. CBP says that since 2017 it has identified a total of $15 billion to construct a total of 753 miles of border wall system, through a combination of Pentagon and Homeland Security funding, and the Treasury Forfeiture Fund. CBP says that for fiscal 2020, an additional $1.3 billion has been awarded for 69 miles of new wall in the Laredo sector, also in areas where no previous barriers existed. There is another $6.3 billion earmarked from Pentagon counter-narcotics funding for approximately 306 miles, and an additional $3.6 billion from military construction funding for an additional 175 miles of construction.
The administration has set the goal of 450 miles of wall constructed or under construction by the end of the year, as President Trump seeks to go into re-election being able to show that the wall he promised in 2016 is being built.

$38 billion package
The current aid to Israel is part of a package promised by the Obama administration in 2016 under which Israel would get $38 billion over the next 10 years – the largest such package in U.S. history.
The aid package works out to $7,230 per minute to Israel, and equals about $23,000 per each Jewish Israeli family of four.
Under the Obama-Netanyahu Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the $3.8 billion per year was to be a ‘ceiling’ – the agreement was that Israel would not ask for more money on top of this annual disbursement.
However, an MOU is a non-binding agreement and can be changed. Therefore, Israel partisans in Congress have introduced legislation that would make it into law – and the legislation before Congress makes the terms even more beneficial to Israel than the MOU.
Under the current bill before Congress, the $38 billion would be a ‘floor’ rather than a ‘ceiling,’ meaning that aid could increase, as it almost always has in the past.
JP reports, however, that some former Israeli diplomats, concerned that Americans suffering under COVID-19 might object, recommend that this year Israel avoid its usual request for more money.
Aid to Israel hurts U.S.
Israel and its partisans claim that U.S. aid to Israel is supposedly good for the U.S. because Israel spends most of the aid money on U.S. weaponry. (All other nations that receive U.S. military aid are required to spend 100 percent of it on U.S. equipment.).
However, if the U.S. wishes to subsidize U.S. companies, the Pentagon and/or other U.S. agencies could simply buy more equipment themselves, and let Israelis use their own money to purchase weaponry.
Similarly, Israel and its advocates often claim that Israel is America’s “aircraft carrier” in the Middle East. However, it is actually American soldiers who have fought and died for Israel through the years.
Aid to Israel is also problematic for other reasons. Israel has a long record of human rights violations, as documented by Human Rights Watch, the Red Cross, Christian Aid, Amnesty International, Oxfam, and numerous other humanitarian agencies.
Israel has also used U.S. aid in ways that violate U.S. laws.
For these reasons, providing Israel with massive amounts of money and weaponry is antithetical to most Americans’ moral and ethical principles.
In addition, such aid creates dangerous hostility to the U.S. Bin Laden, for example, listed U.S. support for Israeli crimes as one of the major reasons for his opposition to the United States.

Statement by the Secretary-General on the World Health Organization
As I said on 8 April: “The COVID-19 pandemic is one of the most dangerous challenges this world has faced in our lifetime. It is above all a human crisis with severe health and socio-economic consequences.
The World Health Organization, with thousands of its staff, is on the front lines, supporting Member States and their societies, especially the most vulnerable among them, with guidance, training, equipment and concrete life-saving services as they fight the virus.
It is my belief that the World Health Organization must be supported, as it is absolutely critical to the world’s efforts to win the war against COVID-19.
This virus is unprecedented in our lifetime and requires an unprecedented response. Obviously, in such conditions, it is possible that the same facts have had different readings by different entities. Once we have finally turned the page on this epidemic, there must be a time to look back fully to understand how such a disease emerged and spread its devastation so quickly across the globe, and how all those involved reacted to the crisis. The lessons learned will be essential to effectively address similar challenges, as they may arise in the future.
But now is not that time.”
As it is not that time, it is also not the time to reduce the resources for the operations of the World Health Organization or any other humanitarian organization in the fight against the virus.
As I have said before, now is the time for unity and for the international community to work together in solidarity to stop this virus and its shattering consequences.

Navy battling growing COVID-19 outbreak on hospital ship Mercy as 7 test positive
Naval health officials are fighting an outbreak of COVID-19 among the crew of the hospital ship Mercy where four more sailors tested positive for the virus over the weekend, bringing the total cases among the crew to seven, a Navy official told The San Diego Union-Tribune on Monday. The affected sailors, as well as those with whom they had close contact, have left the ship and are either isolated or quarantined off the ship, according to Cmdr. John Fage, a 3rd Fleet spokesman. “Seven Medical Treatment Facility crewmembers on board USNS Mercy have tested positive for COVID-19 and are currently isolated off the ship,” Fage said in an email. “The ship is following protocols and taking every precaution to ensure the health and safety of all crewmembers and patients on board.” The outbreak has not affected Mercy’s ability to receive patients, Fage said. The Mercy is pier-side at the Port of Los Angeles. Its first case of COVID-19 among its crew was reported by the Union-Tribune on Wednesday. On Friday, two more cases on board were confirmed by the Navy.
The Mercy left San Diego March 23 and arrived in Los Angeles four days later. Its mission is to relieve Los Angeles hospitals by treating patients who do not have COVID-19. All incoming patients are tested before coming aboard. The sailors came aboard after serving at various Navy medical installations, including Naval Medical Center San Diego. The hospital is one of two military medical facilities in San Diego County seeing service members who seek treatment and testing for COVID-19. The other is Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton. Because some medical staff rotated through the COVID-19 screening area prior to deploying on the Mercy, one sailor told the Union-Tribune, there is concern on board that the crew brought the virus with them when they left San Diego.
The Mercy has a medical crew of more than 1,000 personnel and a smaller civilian crew that maintains the vessel’s shipboard systems. The Navy has struggled to contain an outbreak of the virus on board another San Diego-based ship, the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt. That ship has been sidelined in Guam since late March when several sailors tested positive for COVID-19. As of Monday, 585 sailors on the Theodore Roosevelt have tested positive. One died Monday of complications from the virus, the Navy said. He has not been identified.

In applying this technology to block transmission of malaria parasites in the mosquito vector, we have constructed a single-chain immunotoxin composed of a single-chain antibody fragment (scFv) directed to Pbs2l on the surface of Plasmodium berghei ookinetes linked to a lytic peptide, Shiva-1. The single-chain immunotoxin was expressed in Escherichia coli, and the protein was purified by a Ni-NTA column. The single-chain immunotoxin was initially shown to exhibit greater killing properties for P. berghei ookinetes in vitro compared with the scFv or synthetic Shiva-1 peptide alone. In an attempt to block malaria transmission by genetically engineered bacteria, recombinant E. coli harboring the single-chain immunotoxin gene were introduced into the mosquito midgut by membrane feeding. The number of infected mosquitoes and their oocyst densities were significantly reduced when the mosquitoes were subsequently allowed to feed on P. berghei-infected mice. These results indicate not only that a single-chain immunotoxin with enhanced parasiticidal activity could form a basis for the development of more effective malaria therapeutic agents, but also that introduction of genetically engineered bacteria into anopheline mosquitoes may offer a practical approach to the regulation of malaria transmission.

Few acknowledge the mistakes that the WHO made
The Democratic National Committee immediately condemned President Donald Trump for the announcement on Tuesday that the U.S. was ending financial support for the World Health Organization, and social media followed suit.
The president listed the many mistakes and blunders of the WHO in his scathing statement at the beginning of the coronavirus task force media briefing at the White House.
The DNC focused instead on the coronavirus response from the Trump administration.
"In the middle of a global pandemic, Trump wants to stop funding the preeminent organization in charge of combating global pandemics," the statement read.
"Trump is willing to put global health further at risk to try to deflect blame from his own failures. But the American people know the truth: It was Trump who ignored warnings for months," they added.
"But the American people know the truth: It was Trump who ignored warnings for months while he praised China's 'transparency.' It is Trump who cut CDC staff in China who could have shared information about the pandemic. It is Trump's incompetence that continues to make this crisis worse than it had to be," the DNC statement concluded.
The online response
Other liberal critics of the president excoriated him on social media and accused him of trying to distract from his own failures.
"Pulling out of the WHO makes America less secure. It makes another pandemic more likely," said Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.).
"It only serves Trump's political interests," he added, "as he desperately grasps for a scapegoat to deflect attention from his fatal mishandling of this crisis."
"Freezing funding for the World Health Organization will only make it worse," claimed Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.).
Former Obama staffer Ben Rhodes said Trump was causing "incalculable damage" to America's standing.

Re: Tedros and WHO. Found this in the DoS FOIA reading room. Written in 2010 by Eric Goolsby to Cheryl Mills and ultimately to HRC in an email about QDDR and making sure that PEPFAR (aids slush fund) was kept w/in the DoS. If I'm reading this correctly, Tedros was chair of The Global Fund. And in 2019, Tedros, as the head of WHO, asked for $14 Billion dollars for Aids via The Global Fund. Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation involved in The Global Fund as well.

FBI analyst fired for alleged possession of child pornography after watchdog investigation
The FBI has fired a supervisory intelligence analyst (SIA) after an internal watchdog investigation concluded that the official had knowingly possessed and viewed child pornography, the Justice Department Office of the Inspector General (OIG) announced Tuesday. The watchdog in a press release said it began its investigation after receiving information from the FBI that the analyst had revealed during a "routine FBI security inquiry" that the person had viewed and downloaded child pornography from the internet several years earlier. "Based on the SIA’s statements during the security interview, the OIG investigation concluded that the SIA had knowingly possessed child pornography, in violation of federal law and FBI policy," the press release reads.
The analyst, whose name and gender were omitted in the press release, denied ever receiving or sending child pornography, the watchdog said. As part of the investigation, both the analyst's personal and FBI-issued devices were forensically examined, during which pornographic images were discovered on the individual's personal devices, according to the release. These images were then sent to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which was among one of the steps the inspector general took to establish whether such images represented child pornography.
The watchdog office, which is led by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz, did not determine that any of the images were "evidence of child pornography" but the analyst's comments during their security review led them to conclude the person had been in possession of such content, the release says. As the investigation was underway, the FBI fired the analyst and the DOJ has declined to prosecute the official. "The SIA was summarily dismissed by the FBI while the OIG investigation was pending," the release says. "Prosecution of the SIA was declined. The OIG has completed its investigation and provided its report to the FBI," it continues.

In a private transaction, Richard Burr, Republican of North Carolina, sold the townhouse to lobbyists who had business before his committees.
The chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Richard Burr, has come under fire in recent weeks for unloading stock holdings right before the market crashed on fears of coronavirus and for a timely sale of shares in an obscure Dutch fertilizer company. Now the North Carolina Republican’s 2017 sale of his Washington, D.C., home to a group led by a donor and powerful lobbyist who had business before Burr’s committee is raising additional ethical questions.
Burr sold the small townhouse, in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, for what, by some estimates, was an above market price — $900,000 — to a team led by lobbyist John Green. That is tens of thousands of dollars above some estimates of the property’s value by tax assessors, a real estate website and a local real estate agent. The sale was done off-market, without the home being listed for sale publicly. Green is a longtime donor to Burr’s political campaigns and has co-hosted at least one fundraiser for him. In 2017, the year of the sale, Green lobbied on behalf of a stream of clients with business before Burr’s committees. Ethics experts are generally troubled when politicians enter into business transactions with donors or lobbyists with matters before them. The legality of this sale hinges on whether the home was purchased for fair market value. If it was purchased for more than that, it would be considered a gift. Gifts of significant value from lobbyists are generally banned by Senate ethics rules, and those that aren’t are typically required to be publicly disclosed. Neither Burr nor Green disclosed any such gifts. Gifts that are intended to influence official actions are illegal. “This appears to be extremely problematic,” said Kedric Payne, general counsel for the Campaign Legal Center and former deputy chief counsel of the Office of Congressional Ethics. Other ethics experts agreed. “This has every appearance of being a violation of the gift ban,” said Craig Holman, a lobbyist for the watchdog group Public Citizen. “The gift ban is one of the most basic legal frameworks for preventing corruption. Lobbyist gifts to lawmakers is akin to a bribe.”
Holman, however, said proving such transactions went for above market value is difficult. He compared the scenario to former EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt renting a Capitol Hill condo for a discounted rate from the wife of a lobbyist who sought to influence the agency’s decisions. EPA officials initially defended the rent as market rate, and the case did not result in any sanction or prosecution against Pruitt.
In a statement, a Burr spokesperson said the price was the fair market value, “directly in line with comparable properties recently sold in the area.” “The sale was finalized in February 2017 after a months-long process, which included an independent appraisal confirming the building’s market value and legal review of the title and contract,” the spokesperson said. “The Senate Ethics Committee was notified before the sale and the Committee’s guidance was followed on all relevant public financial disclosures.” The ethics committee is not known for its aggressive scrutiny of members. “The Senate Ethics Committee is an insider’s club — it is members overseeing each other,” Holman said. “The committee is more widely known for providing cover to colleagues, and it would appear that is what happened in this case.” In a short statement, Green said, “I have not lobbied the Senator or worked on an issue with his office personally since 2016.”

Fox Business host Lou Dobbs said there "could be" more to former President Barack Obama's endorsement of Joe Biden than meets the eye. During an interview with Rep. Jim Jordan, Dobbs raised the idea that the endorsement Tuesday in the Democratic primary contest could be tied to U.S. Attorney John Durham's Russia of the Russia investigation. "One has to wonder why President Obama chose this moment," Dobbs said on his show. "It could be because of reports now that John Durham, the U.S. attorney for Connecticut who's been charged by the attorney general with investigating the so-called investigators, John Brennan, the CIA director under Obama, is the leading target, we are told."
He was referring to a Wall Street Journal report earlier this month in which sources said Durham is increasingly focused on former CIA Director John Brennan and drove to Washington, D.C., to make sure the investigation stayed on track during the coronavirus outbreak. Jordan, the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, did not directly address Dobbs's thought about Obama, instead mentioning how there were a couple "key" developments last week in the so-called Russiagate controversy, including the declassification of footnotes in a Justice Department inspector general report showing the FBI received classified reports in 2017 which identified that parts of British ex-spy Christopher Steele’s anti-Trump dossier were likely influenced by Russian disinformation. The Ohio congressman added that Barr and Durham are "getting to the bottom of this" and hopes to see the investigation end sometime in the summer.
