Harvey Weinstein Charged with New Sexual Assault Count in Los Angeles

Convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein has been charged with a new sexual assault count in Los Angeles stemming from an incident that allegedly occurred in 2010, according to the county’s district attorney’s office.

The new charge against Harvey Weinstein comes as the Oscar-winning producer and Democratic party megadonor sits in a New York jail after being sentenced last month to 23 years following his conviction of raping a hairstylist and forcibly performing oral sex on a former Project Runway production assistant.

On Friday, the L.A. District Attorney’s office said it has charged Harvey Weinstein with one felony count of sexual battery by restraint. The alleged incident occurred at a Beverly Hills hotel on May 11, 2010.

Prosecutors didn’t identify the victim but said she was first interviewed by law enforcement in October 2019 as a possible corroborating witness. Last month, she provided detectives with information confirming that the assault took place within the 10-year-statute of limitation.

Prosecutors in L.A. have been pursuing multiple cases against Weinstein. But they said Friday that two previous cases involving the disgraced movie mogul were declined for prosecution because the victims did not want to testify against the defendant. The original L.A. criminal complaint charged Weinstein with sexually assaulting two women during separate incidents in 2013.

If convicted as charged in the amended complaint, Weinstein faces up to 29 years in state prison, according to the D.A.’s office.

Far-left Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) issued a rallying cry to her fellow socialists on Friday, declaring that America's time of crisis amid the coronavirus pandemic shows "the time to nationalize healthcare and the supply chain is now."

"Big corporations may not want to produce necessary items because it's not profitable for them," the congresswoman said in a video posted on social media, arguing that "profits are always placed above people."

"We, as a federal government, we have the proper tools to deploy," Omar continued. "And it's deplorable, really, and unconscionable that every single tool that we have is not being deployed right now."

Rep. Omar, a supporter of former Democratic presidential candidate and avowed socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), added, "It is important for us to nationalize the supply chain. It's important for us to take action in nationalizing our health care system."

In a tweet promoting the video, Omar wrote, "The time to nationalize healthcare and the supply chain is now."

Omar's message was met with praise from some and ridicule from others.

One supporter suggested, "Get Bernie to mobilize the movement into a general strike. Or call the Senate and House reps by the millions asking for specific policies. Public pressure must be used."

Another proponent of Omar's agenda declared, "Healthcare is a human right. Universal healthcare will save money and lives, and prepare us for national health emergencies."

But critics also came out in droves. One wrote, "So a full Communist takeover, seizing the 'means of production.' No thanks. And we need to go back to when we threw Communists in jail for attempting to do just that."

A second critic replied, "The government can't pass a bill to provide struggling Americans monetary relief in a timely manner. But sure, let's hand them our entire healthcare system."

Michigan Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued an extension to her stay-at-home order that now bans visiting friends and relatives in the state.

The extension, which goes into effect Saturday until the end of the month, bans travel between two Michigan residences except for purposes such as caring for a relative or pet or complying with a court order related to child custody, the Detroit Free Press reported.

"All public and private gatherings of any size are prohibited," Whitmer said at a news conference Thursday. "People can still leave the house for outdoor activities. Recreational activities are still permitted as long as they’re taking place outside of six feet from anyone else."

Abortion Funding, Surveillance, Mail-in Voting: Progressives Unveil Wish List for Next Coronavirus Stimulus Bill

Increased abortion funding. Stimulus checks for illegals. Permanent housing guarantees. Mail-in voting for elections. Minimum wage hikes and more union access. The large-scale release of imprisoned criminals. An extensive national disease surveillance program.

These are just some of the far-left, Big Government proposals being peddled by influential progressive organizations for Democrats to include in the next round of emergency stimulus funding, which the groups say should be at least as large as the $2.2 trillion CARES Act.

The Center for American Progress (CAP), which functions as an idea factory for the Democratic Party, compiled its wish list for the next round of recovery legislation during the Chinese coronavirus crisis.

Reprising the repurposed progressive anthem of never letting a crisis go to waste, the CAP’s list of recommendations for the next stimulus package clearly seeks to use the coronavirus crisis to achieve many longstanding progressive policy aims.

The CAP tells lawmakers that the pandemic “requires Congress to significantly expand the measures included in the CARES Act and other COVID-19 packages to reflect the expected magnitude and duration of the disruption.”

The CAP recommends the construction of a robust surveillance program, including the following (below are direct quotes from the CAP plan):

Surveillance testing (including training volunteers) and to build tracing teams.

App development (or funding for state licensing of the technology if privately developed) that will be necessary for instantaneous contact tracing.

Additional funding for developing a national disease surveillance program going forward.

CAP wants to use the pandemic to fundamentally transform the voting system, requiring all states to “significantly expand vote-by-mail opportunities; implement at least 14 days of early voting; adopt online and same day voter registration.”

Here, CAP, which is funded by billionaire activist George Soros, joins a slew of other Soros-funded progressive groups seeking the expanded use of mail-in balloting for elections by citing fears that coronavirus makes it too dangerous to vote in person.

Republicans specifically fear the prospect of voter fraud, since mail-in voting would be harder to authenticate.

Stimulus payments in the next round of legislation must also include “undocumented individuals and mixed-status families where even just one parent is filing their taxes with an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number and the other parent and all children have an SSN,” CAP writes.

Instead of turning off extra unemployment insurance benefits after the coronavirus pandemic is over, CAP advocates that unemployment insurance “and other stabilizers” – ostensibly stimulus checks — “should be automatically tied to economic conditions, so that continuing and future crises don’t require ad hoc action.”

The next stimulus package must ensure that “permanent stable housing must be connected to wraparound services or a continuum of care that is flexible and tailored to the individual or household’s needs.”

Border Patrol agent arrested in Arizona on child sex charges

TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - A Border Patrol agent accused of child sex abuse charges was arrested in southern Arizona Thursday.

Sierra Vista Police Department officers and Homeland Security agents arrested Dana Ray Thornhill on Thursday, April 9, on charges of sexual conduct with a minor and sexual assault.

Thornhill, 49, is being held at the Cochise County Jail without bond.

The arrest came after an investigation with Homeland Security into ongoing sex abuse of children, according to the release. Thornhill allegedly fled from Sierra Vista and took shelter in a church in Whetstone, north of Huachuca City.

Thornhill was armed at the time he fled and likely knew of the investigation, according to a news release from the SVPD.

Officers with SPVD’s tactical unit responded to the church, where Thornhill barricaded himself. Negotiators were on the scene for four hours until Thornhill finally surrendered at 8 p.m.

Ex-Charlotte leader arrested for threatening to blow up a South Carolina dam

Tim Newman, a former Charlotte business leader, was being held in a South Carolina jail Thursday morning on a felony charge of threatening to destroy a Berkeley County dam.

It was Newman’s third arrest in two months and at least his fifth since 2018.

Newman was charged with threatening to destroy the Pinopolis Dam, an earthen and concrete structure owned by Santee Cooper, a state-owned power and water utility, according to utility spokeswoman Molly Gore. The dam is near Lake Moultrie.

Newman is being held on $45,000 bond, a jail spokeswoman told the Observer.

Newman was chief executive of the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority from 2004 to 2011. A former general manager of the Charlotte Knights, he was instrumental in pushing for NASCAR to put its Hall of Fame in Charlotte.

He was demoted in 2011 after facing mounting criticism of his management, including projections of attendance at the hall of fame. He’d also been under fire for giving an employee a controversial $100,000 bonus.

The Charlotte Ledger has reported that Newman was arrested in February and in March on charges involving probation violations and communicating threats.

Los Angeles County Extends Stay-At-Home Order Through May 15

Los Angeles County on Friday extended its stay-at-home and nonessential business closure orders through May 15, a little more than a week before it was set to expire.

The county has recorded 8,430 new COVID-19 cases, including 241 deaths, according to the county Department of Public Health. Officials said the numbers show the county has "flattened the curve" with social distancing practices but that lifting the order would quickly reverse any progress made. It was set to expire April 19.

"If you were to reduce physical distancing to the pre-health officer order levels, virtually all individuals in Los Angeles County, 95.6 percent per the model, would be infected by the pandemic by Aug. 1, 2020," said Dr. Christina Ghaly, the county's director of health services, according to Fox News affiliate KTTV-TV. "That number is starkly reduced, down to about 30 percent, if we maintain the current levels of physical distancing."

Some, however, have still flouted the order and are choosing to gather in large groups. Defiant crowds were recently seen at so-called street takeovers where illegal stunt driving takes place and beaches, which were closed to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Closures of public spaces, including parks, hiking trails and beaches will stay off-limits through the order, which now requires anyone entering an essential business to wear a face covering.

The Public Health department also urged residents to avoid leaving their homes for groceries and medications and have the items delivered instead, according to the news outlet

The announcement comes as the Trump administration makes reopening the U.S. economy a top priority while some regions - like New York City - are still battling with the pandemic. He said he will convene an "Opening our Country" task force April 14, which will be comprised of doctors and business leaders.

"I want to get it open as soon as possible,” Trump told reporters at Friday's briefing with members of the White House task force. "This country was meant to be open and vibrant and great.”

Gun-Rights Groups Sue Massachusetts Over Gun Store Shutdowns

A collection of gun-rights groups filed a federal suit on Thursday against Massachusetts governor Charlie Baker (R.) challenging his order to close gun stores.

The gun-rights activists said the governor's shutdown order violates the Second Amendment by effectively banning the lawful purchase of guns and ammunition in the state. They asked the United States District Court for Massachusetts to strike down the order and allow gun stores to reopen.

"Defendants' acts prohibiting the operation of any and all consumer-oriented firearms businesses operates to completely prohibit law-abiding individuals from purchasing ammunition, and to effectively prevent most of them from purchasing firearms," the complaint says. "Independently and collectively, these acts stand as a perpetual bar on acquiring firearms and ammunition for the purpose of protecting one's self and family (or indeed, for any other lawful purpose)."

The suit is the latest in a string of cases across the country challenging the closure of gun retailers in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus. The outcome could determine how far the emergency powers of state and local officials extend and where they butt up against constitutional rights.

The federal government has attempted to prevent such legal battles by adding gun stores, ranges, and manufacturers to its "essential business" list in coronavirus guidelines provided to state and local officials. That designation led Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Los Angeles County, and Wake County, N.C., to reverse previous closure orders. Massachusetts, which allowed gun stores to remain open in the first weeks of the outbreak, removed gun stores from its "essential" business list just days after the Department of Homeland Security updated the federal recommendations.

Gun-rights groups have argued gun stores are "essential" and should be allowed to remain open during the pandemic.

"Closing gun stores and preventing citizens from exercising their Second Amendment rights is not the way to fight a viral pandemic," said Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, which is a plaintiff in the Massachusetts case.

The shutdown order has angered local activists and led the Massachusetts-based group Commonwealth Second Amendment to join the suit. Spokesman Brent Carlton compared closing gun stores to shuttering media outlets. "The Baker administration can no more block exercise of the Second Amendment by preventing Massachusetts residents from purchasing firearms than the Trump administration can limit the First Amendment by closing the New York Times or CNN," he said.

Adam Kraut, director of legal strategy for plaintiff Firearms Policy Coalition, said the shutdown order violates the principles that Massachusetts was founded upon.

"During the Massachusetts ratifying convention, Samuel Adams proposed an amendment guaranteeing that the constitution would not prevent peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms. Yet, the modern-day Massachusetts government seeks to do just that," he said.

Baker's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Second Amendment activists have achieved mixed results in the legal battle against shutdowns. Two federal judges have refused to block shutdowns in California. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court denied efforts to prevent Governor Tom Wolf (D.) from shutting down stores. Gun-rights activists have enjoyed some success when government officials move beyond retailers and attempt to shut down the permit process used in gun sales. In March, a North Carolina judge forced Wake County sheriff Gerald Baker (D.) to reopen the pistol purchase permit process following a lawsuit from activists.

Gun-control groups have advocated for forced closures in recent weeks. Everytown for Gun Safety and Brady United both issued memos encouraging government officials to ignore the federal guidance and shut down gun sales during the pandemic.

Second Amendment activists have vowed to keep fighting shutdown orders that target gun shops.

"There is no COVID-19 exception in the Constitution, and even this crisis has constitutional limits," Kraut said.

1,000 Boko Haram Fighters Killed in Raid, Chad Army Reports

Chadian army officials report military forces have killed about 1,000 Boko Haram extremists in an operation on the islands of Lake Chad.

In a video statement released late Thursday, Army spokesman Colonel Azem Bermandoa said the eight-day operation cleared the extremists from the islands in a vast area between Chad, Nigeria, Niger and Cameroon.

He said 52 Chadian army soldiers also were killed and nearly 200 others wounded during the operation.

The move follows a Boko Haram attack last month on a Bohoma army base. More than 92 soldiers were killed. Army officials called it the deadliest attack ever on the nation’s forces.

Boko Haram extremists have killed tens of thousands and forced millions from their homes during their more than decade-long insurgency.

Virginia Governor Announces Signing of Extreme Abortion Bill on Good Friday

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) announced on Good Friday that he signed into law a bill his new Democrat majority rushed to approve, one that repeals most restrictions on abortion in the state.

Northam minimized the extremity of the Reproductive Health Protection Act, referring in a press release to the restrictions on abortion that are now repealed as “anti-women’s health laws.”

“No more will legislators in Richmond—most of whom are men—be telling women what they should and should not be doing with their bodies,” Northam said in an accompanying statement. “The Reproductive Health Protection Act will make women and families safer, and I’m proud to sign it into law.”

Senate Bill 733 and House Bill 980, which are identical pieces of legislation, rescind the required 24-hour waiting period, ultrasound, and counseling prior to having an abortion.

In addition, the measures allow non-physicians to perform abortions and roll back building safety standards in abortion clinics that are required of other outpatient facilities, restrictions Northam and Democrats say are used to force closures of abortion facilities and block access to the procedure.

Democrats said all of the abortion restrictions are unnecessary and make access to abortion more burdensome.

Catherine Glenn Foster, president & CEO of Americans United for Life (AUL), referred to the legislation as “horribly destructive,” and one that “will undermine the role of law to protect and guide.”

Foster said in a statement sent to Breitbart News:

This bill lowers the basic, common sense health and safety standards that abortion facilities must meet, degrades women’s care, and will result in unsafe abortionists operating with even more impunity.

The bill eliminates reflection periods for women seeking an abortion while denying vulnerable women the full truth on what abortion means, what abortion is, and what abortion does.

The most heartbreaking part of this travesty to me personally is its repeal of the lifesaving ultrasound requirement in Virginia. When I went in for my abortion, scared and only 19 years old, I was denied the option to see the ultrasound of my baby. I asked, but the abortion worker said no. Now women all over the commonwealth of Virginia will be denied that basic right as well. It would have changed the course of my life. Women deserve better.

Northam, a pediatric neurologist, created a firestorm and ushered in a national debate about infanticide in late January 2019 when he defended the bill introduced by Democrat Delegate Kathy Tran that would permit terminating the life of an unborn child, even if a woman decides to abort as she is dilating.

Northam said, under the bill, if an infant survives abortion:

If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.

AUL’s Foster said Northam “should have been removed from office last year after he stated clearly and directly that when a child is born alive during an attempted abortion, she could be denied basic care and compassion, and left to die alone”:

He should have resigned from office a few days later when his racially insensitive actions came to light. Since neither his indifference towards the lives of newly born infants nor towards his fellow, minority citizens were enough to make Gov. Northam make the decent choice to leave office, we are now left with the devastating outcome that he has signed Virginia’s so-called “Reproductive Health Protections Act”—a fallacious name in every conceivable way since it only seeks to put women in more danger as it destroys community protections.

Virginia Sen. Jennifer McClellan (D), a sponsor of the legislation, said the extreme abortion measure “is about protecting Virginians’ health, rights, and basic dignity.”

Her colleague in the House, Majority Leader Charniele Herring, said, “Simply, this bill rolls back restrictions that are not evidence-based … I’m glad to see this bill signed into law.”

Jeremy M. Jack, a sign language interpreter and businessman, called out CNN for using an image of him in footage about the Coronavirus outbreak in San Francisco.

But Jack says the footage actually shows Jack and others in Houston, Texas during Hurricane Harvey. Jack is not happy about it.

There are new rules for companies to limit exposure to others. The governor also wants big box stores to close certain sections like flooring, garden centers and plant nurseries.

Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading infectious disease expert, said he expects a “real degree of normality” by the November elections as a partisan battle breaks out over voting by mail.

“I would hope that by November we would have things under such control that we could have a real degree of normality. That’s my interest and my job as a public health person,” Fauci, a leading member of the Trump administration’s coronavirus task force, said Friday on MSNBC.

The remarks come as Democrats and Republicans feud over the viability of expanding mail-in voting in the November election.

The GOP, led by President Trump, have claimed that mail voting is particularly susceptible to fraud and could affect the general election, though they have offered no evidence to support their claims.

“Republicans should fight very hard when it comes to state wide mail-in voting,” Trump tweeted Wednesday. “Democrats are clamoring for it. Tremendous potential for voter fraud, and for whatever reason, doesn’t work out well for Republicans.”

Trump threatens to withhold visas for countries that don't quickly repatriate citizens

President Trump on Friday issued a memo threatening to withhold visas for people from countries that do not quickly repatriate their citizens from the U.S. due to concerns over the coronavirus.

Trump wrote in a memo to the Department of State and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that the DHS secretary will notify the secretary of State if any government denies or delays “the acceptance of aliens who are citizens, subjects, nationals, or residents of that country after being asked to accept those aliens, and if such denial or delay is impeding operations of the Department of Homeland Security necessary to respond” to the pandemic.

Within seven days of proper notification, the State Department will then initiate a plan to impose visa sanctions under an executive order Trump signed in January. Those sanctions can be repealed if DHS deems the targeted country has resumed accepting people “without unreasonable delay.”

“Countries that deny or unreasonably delay the acceptance of their citizens, subjects, nationals, or residents from the United States during the ongoing pandemic … create unacceptable public health risks for Americans,” Trump wrote in the memo. “The United States must be able to effectuate the repatriation of foreign nationals who violate the laws of the United States.”

I was outright denied by store to pay by cash

Working today and I went to a service station (caltex) where I bought some drinks for the road. Cashier told me that they are no longer taking cash and that I have to pay by card. WTF? I asked him if this is for all of the franchises around Sydney and he said that a letter came from the top to the owners that they are to start phasing out cash payments. Cashier doesn't own the store but got those instructions from the owner and that basically owners can use their own discretion as to how they want to implement.

I also deliver to cafes and they too are starting to encourage customers to move away from paying cash and using card. Some of them even have signs up asking customers to use card and go cashless. Talking to the cafe owners they said it's just a result of the lock downs that they are going in that direction since their bank managers are telling them it's easier as P2P services are being reduced and online us the way to go not just now because of the virus but moving forward after things get back to so called normal.

"SEOUL - South Korea on Saturday (April 11) said people who violate quarantine orders will be required to wear tracking wristbands.

This comes after a large number of people were found to have contravened self-quarantine rules.

The plan will take off within the next two weeks, said Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun.

"After deep consideration, the government has decided to put electronic wristbands on people who violate self-isolation rules, such as going outside without notice and not answering phone calls," Yonhap news agency quoted Mr Chung as saying.

However, there are no laws in the country to compel those under quarantine to wear the wristbands.

As such, the health authorities will have to ask violators' permission before they can actually get them to wear the device.

The Korea Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said it expects "active cooperation" from those under quarantine.

As of Thursday, over 54,000 people were under self-quarantine, with more than 160 people caught for leaving the confines of their homes.

"If people under self-isolation break quarantine rules, such as going outside without notice and not responding to health check calls, they will face legal actions and will be asked to wear the wristbands for the rest of their quarantine period," Yonhap quoted the KCDC as saying."

Private First Class Glendon Oakley, 22, was arrested and taken to the Bell County Jail by Harker Heights police a little after 2 a.m. on Friday. The police were helping Fort Bliss locate Oakley who was absent without permission.

"Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has filed a federal lawsuit challenging a county government ordinance which has temporarily shut down beaches where his multi-million dollar Florida home is located.

Huckabee filed it with his breachfront property neighbors against Walton County and its sheriff, saying the ordinance is unlawfully preventing them from “being able to use or even set foot in their own backyards”.

The lawsuit is stating violation of the community's Fifth Amendment rights, specifically the "Takings Clause", which states, "[N]or shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation."

It was filed Monday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Florida and says that local government is denying basic constitutional rights in taking 'social distancing' measures too far — to the point that police are infringing on property rights.

The complaint says that law enforcement officers “have been and are currently patrolling and occupying the private beachfront properties” without permission while threatening “arrest or fine Plaintiffs, their family members, or invitees on their private properties,” according to Lawandcrime.com.

“The Amended Ordinance is arbitrary and capricious. The Amended Ordinance purports to be designed to ‘prevent the spread of COVID-19’ yet it has the opposite effect,” Plaintiffs wrote.

“The Amended Ordinance prevents the Plaintiffs, many of whom own residences along the beach, from utilizing their own backyards to quarantine or stay safe at home,” the filing states further. “The chances of a family or landowner catching or spreading COVID-19 is far less in his or her own private backyard (where no one else should be less they be trespassing) than traveling to the grocery store or hardware store or other essential business.”"

Specifically, a false conspiracy claim that 5G technology is linked to COVID-19 gained ground, accelerating from darkness to the mainstream shaken through conspiracy theorists who had been chattering about 5G conspiracies for years.

While there is a scientific consensus on the basic medical realities of COVID-19, researchers are still filling in the gaps in a virus that no one knew existed five months ago. That relative paucity of information opens the way for ideas usually relegated to the fringes of the Internet into the broader conversation about the pandemic, a dangerous feature of an unprecedented global health crisis.

According to Yonder, an artificial intelligence company that monitors online conversations, including disinformation, conspiracies that would normally remain in fringe groups are traveling to the mainstream faster during the epidemic.

A report on the company's misinformation about the coronavirus notes that "the mainstream is unusually accepting conspiracy thinking, rumors, alarm, or panic" during uncertain times, a phenomenon that explains the misinformation movement we're seeing now.

While the company estimates that it would normally take six to eight months for a "marginal narrative" to reach the mainstream from the edges of the Internet, that interval seems like three to 14 days in the middle of COVID-19.

"In the current infodemic, we have seen conspiracy theories and other forms of misinformation spread across the Internet at unprecedented speed," Yonder chief innovation officer Ryan Fox told Newsdio. He believes the trend represents the outsized influence of "small groups of hyper passionate individuals" on driving misinformation, such as 5G claims.

Japan starts 1st weekend under state of emergency as

"Tokyo and six other prefectures entered their first weekend under a state of emergency on Saturday, with authorities strengthening calls for people to stay home and for nonessential businesses to temporarily shutter to curb the coronavirus' spread in Japan.

More than 190 new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Tokyo on Saturday, a record daily increase for the fourth straight day, a metropolitan government official said.

The figure topped the previous record of 189 marked Friday, bringing the total number of infections in the capital to about 1,900.

Areas around Shinjuku Station in Tokyo that are normally packed with shoppers appeared semi-deserted with department stores and restaurants closed for business.

"I came to the office because my work is piling up. It's the first time I've seen Shinjuku so empty on a weekend," said a Shinjuku Ward office employee in her 50s.

The lack of people in one of the Japanese capital's major transport hubs was further demonstrated by a timetable screen at the Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal which showed the majority of scheduled buses had vacant seats."

About 16.4 million mail-in ballots went missing in the 2016 and 2018 elections, data provided U.S. Election Assistance.

The data from the U.S. Election Assistance Commission and the Election Administration and Voting Surveys for 2016 and 2018, provided by the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF), shows that between the 2016 and 2018 elections, roughly 16.4 million ballots mailed to registered voters went missing.

In the 2018 election, about 42.4 million ballots were mailed to registered voters. Of those mailed, more than one million were undeliverable, more than 430,000 were rejected, and nearly 10.5 million went missing.

The 2016 election showed similar discrepancies. That year, about 41.6 million ballots were mailed to registered voters. Of those mailed, more than 568,000 were undeliverable, nearly 320,000 were rejected, and close to six million went missing.

“Putting the election in the hands of the United States Postal Service would be a catastrophe. In 2018 and 2016, there were 16 million missing and misdirected ballots,” PILF President J. Christian Adams said in a statement. He went on:

These represent 16 million opportunities for someone to cheat. Absentee ballot fraud is the most common; the most expensive to investigate; and can never be reversed after an election. The status quo was already bad for mail balloting. The proposed emergency fix is worse.

Los Angeles County, California, for instance, had nearly 1.4 million mail-in ballots go missing in the 2018 election, while Maricopa County, Arizona saw 408,000 mail-in ballots go missing.

Likewise, Orange County, California, had 374,000 mail-in ballots go missing in 2018 and King County, Washington, had 353,000 mail-in ballots go missing.

San Diego County, Sacramento County, Riverside County, San Bernardino County, Alameda County, Santa Clara County — all located in California — saw a combined 1.6 million mail-in ballots go missing in the 2018 election.

Hong Kong’s Richest Man Made Early Zoom Bet That’s Now Worth $3 Billion

(Bloomberg) – Li Ka-shing built Hong Kong’s biggest fortune on old-fashioned real estate and infrastructure. It’s a bet on technology that’s paying off in the current crisis.

Li, called “Superman” by his admirers, was an early investor in Zoom Video Communications Inc. and owns about 8.6% of the San Jose-based company, according to regulatory filings. The value of Li’s stake has surged 80% this year to $3 billion – the only public holding of his tracked by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index to record a gain. His overall fortune is down about $4.6 billion to $25.7 billion this year after Hong Kong was hit by protests and the coronavirus pandemic.

The 91-year-old owns Zoom through three investment vehicles, according to the filings. Horizons Ventures, which manages Li’s venture investments, led a $6.5 million series B round funding in the video conferencing company in 2013 and participated in a $30 million series C round two years later, according to the company’s website. His stake was worth about $850 million when Zoom started publicly trading in the U.S. in April 2019.

The company’s market value has more than tripled since the initial public offering, while the shares climbed 5.7% on Thursday.

The company’s teleconferencing software has become an essential tool for millions at a time when much of the world is socially distancing to blunt the toll of the Covid-19 virus. Zoom’s share price has soared as the homebound use it for everything from work conferences to Passover meals to happy hours, though it has recently given back some of those gains over privacy concerns.

Li isn’t the only person benefiting from the Zoom boom. Founder Eric Yuan is now worth $6.5 billion, according to the Bloomberg ranking. Former Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang was another early investor. David Bonderman’s family office, Wildcat Capital Management, jumped in at the end of last year, regulatory filings show, before Zoom stock skyrocketed.

Some of Li’s other companies are helping boost Zoom’s user base. 3 Hong Kong, the mobile arm of his Hutchison Telecommunications, donated backpacks that included free “Zoom Classrooms” to hundreds of Hong Kong schools, the company said in a March 18 statement.

It's the latest setback for Zoom, which has seen usage surge amid the coronavirus pandemic. Incidences of so-called zoombombing, in which meetings are hijacked by pranksters or others with more nefarious intent, have been widely reported.

Alphabet's (GOOGL) - Get Report recently banned the use of Zoom on its corporate computers, while U.S. senators were being advised not to use the platform.

Several 5G broadcasting masts across the Netherlands were damaged in what authorities have described as “a worrying development.” Similar acts of sabotage have previously been seen in the UK.

The Netherlands has experienced a string of arson attacks in the past fortnight, with the latest one happening on Friday in the northern city of Groningen, according to a report by newspaper De Telegraaf. The outlet cites Rob Bongelaar, director of the Monet Foundation, an industry group in charge of installing cellular broadcasting towers in the country.

The ultra-fast cellular connections “are desperately needed for hospitals and nursing homes, for example, and then there are those who deliberately set radio masts on fire,” he complained, adding that Dutch mobile service providers are still doing their utmost to keep their networks running “in this difficult time.”

The acts of sabotage garnered the attention of the government’s National Coordinator for Security and Counter-Terrorism (NCTV), which also believes that opposition to the 5G technology is a possible cause."

Aramco Delays Oil Pricing Statement as OPEC+ Talks Continue

Saudis orchestrating talks with global producers to cut output. Discussions enter third day as Mexico holds out on proposal. Saudi Arabia is pushing back a key decision on pricing for its crude exports as the kingdom seeks to commit global producers to a massive coordinated supply cut.

State producer Saudi Aramco is set to decide on and announce pricing for May crude exports on Sunday, according to people with knowledge of the situation. The official selling prices, or OSPs, were meant to be released April 5 before twice being delayed to allow producers time to discuss output cuts amid demand destruction due to the coronavirus.

Aramco didn’t immediately comment on the delay. The company’s pricing is a key indicator for traders since it affects about 14 million barrels a day of Persian Gulf crude exports. Other producers in the region follow Aramco’s lead in setting prices for their own shipments. Abu Dhabi and Kuwait have also said they’re waiting for the outcome of the meetings before releasing pricing.

Talks among global producers aimed at securing curbs of 10 million barrels a day entered their third day Saturday. Saudi Arabia convened OPEC+ members Thursday, hosted a conference call of G-20 energy ministers Friday and is set to speak with U.S. and Mexican officials Saturday. The meetings that stretched overnight failed to overcome Mexican resistance to the proposed reductions. By bringing together the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and partners such as Russia, Saudi Arabia took steps to end an oil price war it had unleashed just a month before. The world’s top exporter slashed the OSPs for April exports by the most in at least three decades. Benchmark Brent has plunged by more than half since the start of the year as the Saudis made good on their threat to begin pumping a record 12 million barrels a day at the start of April. The supply glut exacerbated a collapse in oil demand as the coronavirus pandemic forced lockdowns worldwide and economies ground to a halt.

OPEC+ talks in March collapsed, allowing production curbs to expire at the end of that month. Under the latest proposed agreement, both Saudi Arabia and Russia would pare output back to about 8.5 million barrels a day.

HAZLETON, Pa. - The Keystone State of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1776 represents 800 of Cargill's employees at its Hazleton facility. Union President Wendell Young says the meat-packing plant is packed itself.

"It's a crowded place, with that many people under one roof. It's an assembly line kind of work. It's very difficult and challenging work and it's the kind of work where people work very closely together," said Young.

164 employees, as of Thursday, are being treated for coronavirus symptoms. Young attributes the outbreak to a vulnerable location.

I'm not going to attack any specific Baker, I do appreciate what they do but there are many frequent issues:

Back in the day bakers would actually read the notables to decide whether or not they are shill garbage, notable, links went to the correct source, and if it was in a recent bread already. This is no longer a normal practice.

It took months for the World Health Organization to declare the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic

Spanish – U.S. Senators Martha McSally and Rick Scott have accused the World Health Organization (WHO) of covering up the manipulation of COVID-19 casualty figures provided by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

April began with more than a million people infected with the coronavirus, over 81,600 of whom have died, of which the Chinese Communist regime claims just over 3,000 died in China.

Since December 2019, Chinese doctors have reported the spread of the coronavirus. Instead of preventing a pandemic, China focused on persecuting doctors and independent journalists.

The senators are calling for the immediate resignation of WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, whose track record includes accusations of covering up cholera outbreaks in his home country of Ethiopia, where he was the socialist regime’s health minister.

“The WHO needs to stop covering up for them. I think Dr. Tedros needs to retire. We need to take some action to address this issue. It is simply irresponsible. It is inconceivable what they have done here while we have people dying all over the planet,” said Senator McSally.

About 16.4 million mail-in ballots went missing in the 2016 and 2018 elections, data provided to Breitbart News reveals.

The data from the U.S. Election Assistance Commission and the Election Administration and Voting Surveys for 2016 and 2018, provided by the Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF), shows that between the 2016 and 2018 elections, roughly 16.4 million ballots mailed to registered voters went missing.

In the 2018 election, about 42.4 million ballots were mailed to registered voters. Of those mailed, more than one million were undeliverable, more than 430,000 were rejected, and nearly 10.5 million went missing.

The 2016 election showed similar discrepancies. That year, about 41.6 million ballots were mailed to registered voters. Of those mailed, more than 568,000 were undeliverable, nearly 320,000 were rejected, and close to six million went missing.

Magnitude 5.3 earthquake strikes California close to Nevada border

A 5.3 magnitude earthquake has struck near Yosemite National Park, along the California-Nevada border.

Occurring at a depth of six miles (10km), the quake hit shortly after 7:30am on Saturday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.

Its epicenter was around 90 miles (144km) southeast of Lake Tahoe, just north of the sprawling Yosemite National Park

Yosemite draws upwards of four million visitors per year, but is currently closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The region had been hit by a number of quakes in recent days, with the strongest – a magnitude 4.1 tremor – striking around 50 miles further south a week ago. According to the USGS, more earthquakes are forecast to hit the region following Saturday’s tremor.

A 5.3-magnitude earthquake is considered ‘moderate’, and can cause damage to weak buildings and structures. Unlike the hundreds of smaller quakes recorded in California every month and felt only by seismic monitoring instruments, a quake of this magnitude is usually felt by anyone nearby.

The rural area hit by Saturday’s quake is sparsely populated, with the nearest town to the epicenter – Bodie – an abandoned mining settlement.

April 11 (Reuters) - The convicted celebrity lawyer Michael Avenatti has been granted temporary freedom from a New York City jail by a California federal judge who said the spread of the novel coronavirus was a compelling reason to release him.

In an order late on Friday, U.S. District Judge James Selna said Avenatti, who represented adult film actress Stormy Daniels in lawsuits against U.S. President Donald Trump, may stay at a friend's home during the 90-day release period.

Avenatti, 49, must first be quarantined for 14 days at a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility, to ensure he does not have the coronavirus or symptoms, before moving to the home of Jay Manheimer in Venice, California.

Selna, who has called Avenatti a "danger to the community," said the lawyer would wear an electronic monitoring bracelet, have no internet access, and except for health emergencies be unable to leave Manheimer's home without permission. Bond was set at $1 million.

Avenatti was convicted in February of trying to extort up to $25 million from the athletic wear company Nike Inc.

He still awaits criminal trials in Manhattan on charges he defrauded Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, and in Santa Ana, California on charges he defrauded other clients and lied to the Internal Revenue Service and a bankruptcy court.

"Our primary concern has been to prepare for the upcoming trials," Avenatti's lawyer Dean Steward said in an email on Saturday. "Mr. Avenatti's release will help us build our defense."

The U.S. Department of Justice agreed to the release terms.

Avenatti has been housed since mid-January at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan, after Selna revoked his bail in the California case following accusations by prosecutors that Avenatti hid money from creditors.

During his temporary release, Avenatti would be unable to conduct any transactions exceeding $500.

In court papers, Avenatti had said he was at "extreme risk" of contracting the coronavirus at the Manhattan jail, which is often criticized for cramped and unsanitary conditions.

He is one of several celebrity inmates who have recently sought release from U.S. jails and prisons, saying the facilities could become flashpoints for the coronavirus.

Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen and R&B singer R. Kelly have had their requests denied, while the rapper Tekashi69, who has asthma, was released early from his two-year term. EL PASO, Texas (AP) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection needlessly spent around $12 million last year to guard, house and feed as many as 2,500 people in a private detention center in Texas that never held more than 68 detainees on any given day, according to a report from a congressional watchdog.

Over five months, Customs and Border Protection paid $5.3 million for 650,000 meals that were never ordered, according to the Government Accountability Office report released Thursday.

The report says the agency also spent $6.7 million on unnecessary private security guards for the facility. Between August and November, each detainee was guarded by an average of eight officials — or one immigration officer, three contracted guards and four members of the Texas National Guard.

“CBP ultimately paid millions of dollars for food service it did not need and allocated personnel resources to the facility that, as Border Patrol El Paso sector officials noted to us, could have been allocated to other missions,” the report read.

Immigration officials decided to build the Tornillo, Texas, facility in May when illegal crossings were up 140% over the previous year and administration officials were clamping down on granting bond to asylum seekers. At the time, thousands of migrants were languishing indefinitely in cells meant to hold them for only a few days across the El Paso Border Patrol sector, which includes southern New Mexico and West Texas. However, by the time the facility opened in August, border crossings were down.

The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees Customs and Border Protection, defended the spending in a letter to GAO.

“In the leadership’s view, it would have been worse to close facilities, such as the one in Tornillo, Texas, too early and be forced to hold detainees in locations not suited to that purpose, than it was to take the risk that CBP would have a level of overcapacity for some time,” Homeland Security spokesman Jim Crumpacker wrote in the response included in the report.

A CBP spokesman in El Paso declined to comment further.

The contractor responsible for meals and most other aspects of the project, Deployed Resources LLC from Rome, New York, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Staff mailboxes at Italy's Monte dei Paschi suffer hacker attack

Hackers have accessed the mailboxes of some employees at Italian state-owned bank Monte dei Paschi and sent emails to clients, according to a notice to customers seen by Reuters.

Monte dei Paschi told clients in the notice that on March 30 some messages with voice mail attachments had been sent as a result of the cyber attack. The notice to customers made no mention of any breach of company data. It did not say what if any information had been asked for, or if any customers had suffered any loss as a result of the emails.

The bank declined to comment.

Officials and cybersecurity experts have warned that hackers are seeking to capitalize on concern about the coronavirus pandemic which has prompted governments, including Italy’s, to impose limits on movement and economic activity to reduce contagion.

With households on lockdown, some banks have warned that customers have already been caught out by fraudsters posing as banks, government and even health service providers to persuade them to hand over passwords or other sensitive data. Italian police have said they have seen an increase in cybercrime and have warned people to be particularly mindful of all mail related to the COVID-19 emergency.

Police have also told people to be careful with emails purportedly from banks as crimes linked to e-commerce, credit cards and home banking are on the rise.

More Than 25,000 Former Soldiers Have Now Volunteered to Return to Duty

It seems to me the invisible war is not just about what’s going on now

The Army asked its "soldiers for life" who are trained in medical fields to come back to do battle against the novel coronavirus pandemic. And to date, more than 25,000 have answered the call, officials said.

The service first sent out an appeal in late March to retired officers and enlisted soldiers from a targeted set of specialties, asking for volunteers to re-don the uniform and reinforce Army communities thinned by emergency field hospital and personnel deployments to regions hit hardest by the virus. It would ultimately expand the call for volunteers to recently separated soldiers in the Individual Ready Reserve and to "gray-area" soldiers - Guardsmen and reservists who have completed 20 years but haven't yet met requirements for retirement.

The field totaled "approximately 800,000," officials said, meaning that more than 3% of all former soldiers contacted by the Army responded to say they could help.

Now, the service is working to process the horde of volunteers, ensuring those it takes are properly qualified and certified, and - importantly - not currently working in medical care in a civilian capacity.

"If individuals are already serving in their local communities, we are proud of their service and want them to continue serving in those communities, as this effort is not to detract from current community support, but to enhance it," Brig. Gen. Twanda E. Young, U.S. Army Human Resources Command deputy commanding general and reserve personnel management director, said in a released statement.

The calls for volunteers went out to those who had served in specialties including critical care officer; anesthesiologist; nurse anesthetist; critical care nurse; nurse practitioner; ER nurse; respiratory specialist; and medic.

But soldiers in other fields also reached out to Human Resources Command to offer their services, officials said. And the Army does plan to consider them for service, too.

Planners are now working around the clock to process applications and determine where volunteers can serve, according to an Army release.

"This effort seems very simplistic - soldiers volunteer and we just bring them back on active duty, but it requires a specialized team of professionals knowledgeable in Reserve policy, which the Reserve Personnel Management Directorate provides," Young said. "We understand the urgency, thus we are working multiple shifts to sift through screening volunteers to get them at the point of need."

Once volunteers are screened and validated, they are sorted by specialty and matched up with Army personnel needs. No orders have been cut to date; all volunteers are still in different parts of the vetting process, according to the release. Orders are expected to be open-ended, and officials did note that volunteers will be given time and flexibility to put their lives in order before they report for duty.

The Army has not provided a precise timeline for when the first volunteer soldiers might be back in uniform, or how many volunteers it plans to accept in total. According to the release, new volunteers are still being accepted by HRC.

Army medical detachments are already deploying around the country to assist civilian providers with managing major virus outbreaks. Military doctors are now assisting in New York City hospitals, and the Army has deployed three mobile field hospital units, staffed by about 330 soldiers apiece.

One of those hospitals, deployed to Seattle, has already closed after just a few days, a sign that patient capacity has become more manageable amid extreme social distancing and protective measures.

This is the sight that greeted a group of billionaires after they attempted to land in the south of France and travel to their £50,000 a night luxury villa during the coronavirus lockdown.

The party of ten, three businessmen, three young women and various staff, were planning to fly by helicopter to a stunning £60m villa called Alang Alang where they would stay during the Covid-19 pandemic.

But customs and police officers barred them from stepping off the jet and ordered them to return to the UK following a three-hour standoff on the tarmac.

Video obtained by Mail Online - and filmed from inside the private jet - shows a dozen police waiting on the tarmac.

An official in a red high-vis jacket can be seen talking with a police officer moments after the private jet landed at Marseille-Provence airport.

A member of the travelling party told Mail Online they were not holidaymakers but three billionaires on their way to the cliffside villa to complete a business deal that would have created over 900 jobs.

He claimed the others in the party were bodyguards, a secretary and translators.

The businessman would not give any further details but said the trip had been booked days in advance with airport authorities and blamed the French authorities for being 'stupid'.

He said:' The problem was the stupid ignorance in the time of Covid 19.

'This was not a holiday in France but a big a project and investment in France. But now and for the future it has stopped.'

Police said the seven men who had flown from Farnborough airfield in Hampshire were in their 40s and 50s.

They described the women, aged in their 20s, as escorts and have not released their names.

The party had flown to France on a Embraer Legacy jet that cost £5,300 an hour to hire from the Lonodn PrivateFly charter company

Three helicopters that had been booked to fly the group to the property were not allowed to take off.

The pilots were fined on the spot by police for breaking the lockdown rules imposed by the French Government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

As the group from the UK had not technically step foot on French soil they were not fined.

Police said one of super rich men hired a private jet at the airport and flew to Germany.

The others, led by a wealthy Croatian who lives in London and had paid for the entire trip flew, flew back to the UK.

Others on the flight were German, French, Romanian and Ukranian, according to police.

The party were headed to the most luxurious villa in the South of France called 'Alang, Alang.'

It was valued at over £50m a year ago when it was put up for sale and during peak season is rented out for £360,000 a month.

As well as eight bedrooms it features its own cinema room and multiple terraces with sweeping views of the Mediterranean.

There is also a private beach, spa, steam room and an indoor and outdoor pool.

A private nightclub is on the ground floor and the home includes a gym and fitness room.

The villa is often booked by the super-rich during the summer and a popular retreat for movie moguls during the Cannes film festival.

Sting once performed at the villa during an impromptu concert for music executives attending a wrap party at the Cannes Lion festival.

The house is owned by a British property developer who bought the original plot from disgraced arms dealer Adam Khashoggi.

He knocked down the original house and built the new villa which is available to rent.

A conspiracy theory from the dark corner of the Internet is gaining new followers in Germany through the corona pandemic.

One of them is the singer Xavier Naidoo.

The recent popularity of the “QAnon” conspiracy theory is a matter of concern.

In times of crisis, conspiracy theories are booming. This was already the case in the Middle Ages: when the plague epidemic hit Europe in the 14th century and cost the lives of millions, Jews were soon accused of poisoning wells. This lie sparked pogroms that wiped out entire Jewish communities. And it is still the basis of numerous anti-Jewish stories.

Even in times of the corona pandemic, conspiracy theories are becoming more popular and threatening. A particularly wild narrative has found its way from the fool's hem of the Internet into the Republican Party of the USA in recent years and is gaining new followers in Germany at an alarming rate.

One of them is Xavier Naidoo. A video from last week shows the singer crying and clearly struggling for words. Naidoo films himself, speaks of "that at these moments in different countries around the world children are freed from the hands of pedophile networks". He then calls on his fans to search for the term "adrenochrome" on the Internet.

What seems particularly confused to outsiders is the open commitment to a conspiracy theory that is spread by radical supporters of the US President Donald Trump and in which Tobias R. apparently also believed, who murdered ten people in Hanau, Hesse, in February.

The story of the insider in the White House

The birth date of this conspiracy theory is October 2017. Donald Trump has been in office for nine months when an anonymous user logs in to the 4chan online forum. The site is a meeting point for various internet subcultures and has been the starting point for right-wing extremist trolls and hate campaigns on several occasions.

In his first post, the user pretends to be a high-ranking informant from the immediate circle around Donald Trump and announces the alleged impending arrest of the democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Although this arrest never occurs, followers quickly care about the alleged informant and his regular publications from then on. They call it “Q,” based on “Q Clearance,” the highest level of intelligence release by the US Department of Energy that the anonymous poster is said to have. And because users of “4chan” only have the name “Anonymous” instead of an individual username, the allegiance of the supposed insider is now called “QAnon”.

From the alleged information from the White House, a wild conspiracy story emerges, first on “4chan” and then on its more radical offshoot “8chan”. In it, Donald Trump fights against a "deep state" that has so far secretly determined the fate of the USA. Part of the conspiracy is therefore a worldwide network of pedophile politicians, bankers and Hollywood stars who kidnap children and torture and murder them in underground camps in order to gain an elixir of life from them: adrenochrome.

This chemical, of which Xavier Naidoo now also speaks, actually exists. It is a metabolic product of adrenaline, occurs in the human body and can also be produced artificially. However, it is not a “rejuvenator”, this supposed property is fictitious. There is also no evidence of the alleged conspiracy.

Support from the President's Party

Many stories by the “QAnon” conspiracy theorists sound as if they were written by a Hollywood action thriller. It is still unclear who is behind the obviously fictitious publications. Nevertheless, “Q” has gained more and more followers in recent years. According to a recent survey, a quarter of the US population has heard of “QAnon”, explains Mike Rothschild. The California-based author and journalist is an expert on conspiracy theories in the United States.

The “QAnon” conspiracy theory is still a marginal phenomenon, but has become more mainstream in recent months. The progressive US think tank “Media Matters for America” counts 34 current or former congressional candidates who have disseminated “QAnon” content or are openly committed to conspiracy theory. Almost all of them are members of the Republican Party.

In the past, US President Donald Trump spread tweets from followers of the “QAnon” conspiracy theory. Trump’s campaign events regularly show meaningful signs with a large “Q” in the crowd. The president himself has not yet commented on “QAnon,” says Rothschild. However, important former Trump administration employees, such as Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Sebastian Gorka, have declared the conspiracy theory to be wrong and condemned it. That is also the official line of the Republicans.

The corona pandemic as a fire accelerator for conspiracy theories

With the spread of the novel coronavirus Sars-Cov-2, however, the “QAnon” narratives are gaining new popularity in both the United States and Germany. Many of the conspiracy believers see the pandemic as a diversion, controlled by the U.S. President and his associates.

The protective measures - border closings and exit restrictions - were introduced so as not to endanger the impending release of abused children from the conspirators' clutches. Instead of being an incompetent president, who has long missed the seriousness of the situation in the corona crisis, Donald Trump is in the eyes of some of his followers as a great genius, as a mastermind in the fight against a satanic-pedophile world conspiracy.

In Germany, too, the “QAnon” conspiracy theory has quickly found new followers. The scene in this country communicates mainly in groups and channels of the messenger app Telegram, also on Facebook and Youtube. One of the most popular German “QAnon” telegram channels has gained tens of thousands of new subscribers in the past few weeks alone.

In addition to Xavier Naidoo, who recently made a very open statement, the former journalist Oliver Janich is the most popular disseminator of "QAnon" stories in Germany. Janich once worked for the magazine “Focus Money”, today he writes from the Philippines for right-wing and right-wing extremists, shoots YouTube videos and serves his supporters on Telegram with right-wing conspiracy theories.

In the Messenger app alone, more than 73,000 people follow him, on YouTube there are even 121,000. A video by Janich in which he spreads the conspiracy theory about the mass abuse of children and their impending liberation was viewed almost half a million times within four days.

Expert: Conspiracy theories affect all social groups

It is not uncommon for conspiracy theories to gain momentum in times of a global health and economic crisis. "The current situation is a prime example of loss of control," explains psychologist Pia Lamberty. "In moments when people are objectively unable to establish control, they do it subjectively," she says. A psychological reaction to this loss of control is to see patterns in places where there are probably none - which is exactly what conspiracy theories do. Anyone who sees a plan behind everything may seem threatening to the world, but at least orderly.

Together with Katharina Nocun, Lamberty wrote the book “Fake Facts - How Conspiracy Theories Determine Our Thinking”, which will be published on May 29 by Quadriga-Verlag. Conspiracy theories, says the psychologist, are not a phenomenon of a small minority, but affect all social groups. "This is also shown by the latest studies: According to a YouGov study, almost 20 percent in Germany believe that there is a secret plan for Muslims to immigrate to Germany."

18 percent of Germans also believed that "there is a link between vaccination and autism," says Pia Lamberty. A false statement that has been rebutted many times and still remains at the heart of many conspiracy theories about the pharmaceutical industry. According to the “Lost Center” study, in which Lamberty also participated, as many as 33 percent of Germans believe that politicians and other leaders are only “puppets of the powers behind”.

Conspiracy theories and extreme right-wing attacks

"Combating conspiracy myths is a task for society as a whole that has not been taken seriously for a long time," says Lamberty. "That is slowly changing now, also against the backdrop of the Halle and Hanau attacks and now the corona pandemic." Stephan B., who tried to enter the Halle synagogue in October 2019 and subsequently shot two people, apparently believed in a “Jewish world conspiracy”. In a video streamed live during the act, he described Jews as the root of all supposed problems.

Tobias R., who murdered ten people in Hanau on February 19, was not only deeply racist in several videos and documents uploaded before the crime. In an English-language video, he also reproduced exactly the conspiracy theory that is characteristic of the “QAnon” narratives: that children are abused, tortured and killed in underground bases.

In the US, "QAnon" followers have already committed a number of violent offenses, some of which are violent. In March 2019, a 24-year-old is said to have shot the Mafia boss Frank Cali in New York because he was convinced that he was an agent of the "deep state". The US federal FBI police warned in the same month of a terrorist threat from "QAnon" and other conspiracy theories in the United States. Mike Rothschild fears that the conspiracy stories surrounding the corona pandemic could lead to further violence. After all, there were neither the kidnapped children nor corresponding rescue operations.

If the “Q” followers become aware of the lack of these bailouts, he fears “that one or more of them will take matters into their own hands and try to 'save' the children from a hospital.” Pia Lamberty also warns of such a danger. "If you really believe that there is a network of pedophiles who sacrifice people, then of course violence is the ultimate consequence," she says. In general, people with a strong conspiracy mentality are more willing to use violence.

In order to tackle this danger, the psychologist calls for “an intensive discussion that goes beyond mere laws. There needs to be more support for civil society initiatives, advice for individuals, schools and politics. ”

It will come as no surprise to Breitbart News readers that Facebook’s vaunted fact-checking system does not stop, or even appropriately label, fake, misleading claims from the left-wing media about President Donald Trump.

A story from Verizon-owned Huffington Post claims that the President has a stake in a drug company that produces hydroxycholoroquine, the drug being promoted by himself and many in the administration as a potential treatment for the Chinese virus. The article is currently on Facebook without any labels alerting users that the information is false or even just misleading.

This is despite the fact that Snopes, a left-leaning fact-checker that until February 2019 was one of Facebook’s fact-checking partners, has rated the claim that Trump benefits financially from promoting hydroxychloroquine as “mostly false.”

The report cited by the HuffPost is from a New York Times story that said: “Trump himself has a small personal financial interest in Sanofi, the French drugmaker that makes Plaquenil, the brand-name version of hydroxychloroquine.”

Trump’s personal financial interest, however, does not include a stake in Sanofi–and the New York Times did not claim it did. Instead, Trump’s financial disclosures show that his three family trusts each had investments in a $10.3 billion Dodge & Cox mutual fund that owns shares in Sanofi, the world’s fifth-largest drugmaker by prescription sales. As of its latest disclosures, those holdings amount to just 3.3 percent of the fund’s holdings.

Trump’s most recent financial disclosure forms lists holdings in the Dodge & Cox International Fund valued between $1,001 and $15,000. That means Trump holds a maximum stake in the mutual funds of $45,000, giving him an indirect interest in Sanofi of $1,485 at the most.

His “financial interest” in Sanofi, which has a market capitalization of nearly $58 billion, could be as low as $99.10.

None of the other “third-party fact-checkers” relied on by Facebook to decide on behalf of the platform’s billions of users what’s true and what’s false, have displayed any interest in the fact that left-wing media is spreading provably misinformation about Trump allegedly profiting from hydroxychloroquine. As of writing, the misleading Huffington Post story has gained over 24,000 shares on Facebook.

It’s not the first time the mainstream media has been allowed to get away with spreading falsehoods about the Chinese virus. Yesterday, the Pentagon debunked an ABC news story alleging that military intelligence warned the Trump administration about a “cataclysmic disease” as early as November.

As Breitbart’s Kristina Wong reported, Col. (Dr.) R. Shane Day, director of the National Center for Medical Intelligence said that no such assessment took place in November — a rare departure from the NCMI’s policy of not commenting on specific intelligence matters.

And yet the original ABC report, now debunked, remains in circulation on Facebook — without any “misinformation” or “fact check” warnings.

Another false ABC story, repeating false claims from an Instagram influencer who claimed to be a nurse at Northwestern Medical (she later admitted that she does not work there for over a year) was also allowed to circulate on Facebook without any fact-checks. ABC put up comments clarifying the story four days after it was originally posted.

Given that Facebook is paying its third-party fact-checkers for their services, it seems like they’re not getting value for money. Or perhaps they’re getting exactly what they paid for — biased, liberal-leaning, mainstream media backed fact-checkers that appease Democrats and the establishment.

The eruption of the famous volcano, located between the islands of Java and Sumatra in the Indonesian province of Lampung, reportedly began an 10:35 p.m. local time (3:35 PM Saturday GMT).

By Valerie Richardson – The Washington Times – An international poll of more than 6,000 doctors released Thursday found that the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine was the most highly rated treatment for the novel coronavirus.

The survey conducted by Sermo, a global health care polling company, of 6,227 physicians in 30 countries found that 37% of those treating COVID-19 patients rated hydroxychloroquine as the “most effective therapy” from a list of 15 options.

Of the physicians surveyed, 3,308 said they had either ordered a COVID-19 test or been involved in caring for a coronavirus patient, and 2,171 of those responded to the question asking which medications were most effective.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave chloroquine and its next-generation derivative, hydroxychloroquine, emergency-use authorization Monday for treating the novel coronavirus, although the drug was already being used off-label by some doctors and hospitals for COVID-19 patients.

The survey also found that the most commonly prescribed treatments are analgesics (56%), azithromycin (41%) and hydroxychloroquine (33%).

Azithromycin, known by the brand name Zithromax or Z-Pak, was rated the second-most effective therapy at 32%, followed by “nothing,” analgesics (including acetaminophen), anti-HIV drugs and cough medicine.

Hydroxychloroquine, which is sold under the brand name Plaquenil, was prescribed mainly in the United States for the most severe cases, but not so in other countries.

“Outside the U.S., hydroxychloroquine was equally used for diagnosed patients with mild to severe symptoms whereas in the U.S. it was most commonly used for high risk diagnosed patients,” the survey found.

The 30 nations surveyed included those in Europe, Asia, North America and South America, as well as Australia. No incentives were provided to participate in the poll, conducted March 25-27, according to Sermo.

Hydroxychloroquine usage was most widespread in Spain, where 72% of physicians surveyed said they had prescribed it, followed by Italy at 49%, and least popular in Japan, where 7% had used it to treat COVID-19.

The poll found 23% of U.S. medical professionals had prescribed the drug, which has been FDA-approved for malaria, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

Debate about hydroxychloroquine has raged in the United States since President Trump touted it two weeks ago as a potential “game-changer” in the fight against the deadly pandemic, prompting critics to accuse him of peddling unproven remedies, or “snake oil,” as USA Today put it.

The coronavirus pandemic that has crippled major retailers and small shops worldwide may be making a dent in illicit business, too.

In Chicago, one of the most violent places in the US, drug arrests in the weeks since the city shut down are down by 42% compared with the same period last year.

Some criminal lawyers say part of the reason for that decrease is that dealers have no choice but to wait out the economic slump.

“The feedback I’m getting is that they aren’t able to move, to sell anything anywhere,” said Joseph Lopez, a lawyer in Chicago who represents reputed drug dealers.

Overall, Chicago’s crime declined by 10% after the pandemic struck, a trend that is playing out globally. Fewer people are being killed and fewer robberies are taking place.

Still, law enforcement officials worry about a surge of unreported domestic violence, and what happens when restrictions are lifted or go on too long.

It’s rare for a city to see a double-digit drop in crime, even over a much longer period. During New York’s 1990s crime decline, one of the biggest turnarounds in US history, crime dropped by about 40% over three years.

Across Latin America, crime is down to levels unseen in decades. El Salvador, for example, reported an average of two killings a day last month, down from a peak of 600 a day a few years ago.

In South Africa, police reported a big decline during their first week of lockdown measures. The country’s police minister, Bheki Cele, said reported rapes fell to 101, from 700 over the same period last year. Serious assault cases fell from 2,673 to 456, and murders from 326 to 94.

In New York, which has the most cases of coronavirus in the US, major crimes such as murder, rape, robbery, burglary, assault, grand larceny and car theft decreased by 12% from February to March. In Los Angeles, statistics for key crimes were consistent with last year’s figures until the week of 15 March, when they dropped by 30%.

“There’s a lot fewer opportunities for criminals to take advantage of,” said Joe Giacalone, a former New York police department sergeant who now teaches at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. “Most burglars, they wait for you to leave the house.”

A coronavirus vaccine could be ready by September, it was reported last night.

Sarah Gilbert, an Oxford University professor currently leading Britain's most advanced search for a vaccine, said she was '80 per cent confident' her team's development would work by autumn.

Last month she was hopeful it could be developed by the end of 2020, but has now confirmed the most optimistic scenario after human trials look set to begin in the next fortnight.

The government has previously indicated it would fund the manufacture of millions of vaccine doses that looked promising in advance, allowing immediate availability to the public once developed.

Despite previous warnings a vaccine could take 18 months to produce, Professor Gilbert said the most bullish scenario for a working product was September 'if everything goes perfectly'.

She told the Times: 'I think there's a high chance that it will work based on other things that we have done with this type of vaccine.

'It's not just a hunch and as every week goes by we have more data to look at. I would go for 80 percent, that's my personal view.'

WASHINGTON DC – Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, revealed Friday the federal government is considering issuing Americans certificates of immunity from the coronavirus, as the Trump administration works to better identify those who have been infected and restart the U.S. economy in the coming weeks.

“You know, that’s possible,” Fauci told CNN’s “New Day,” when asked whether he could imagine a time when people across the country carry such forms of identification.

“I mean, it’s one of those things that we talk about when we want to make sure that we know who the vulnerable people are and not,” he said. “This is something that’s being discussed. I think it might actually have some merit, under certain circumstances.”

Why the White House is highlighting virus 'positivity rates'

A key metric is cropping up more and more at the coronavirus task force briefings.

White House response coordinator Deborah Birx on Wednesday and Thursday highlighted what she called the positive rate of coronavirus tests, a figure that helps measure the severity of the outbreak in different parts of the country.

Why is this measure important? While much attention has been placed on the number of tests being conducted, the proportion of tests that come back positive can offer both a broader and more detailed view of the pandemic.

“Epidemiology is a bit like baseball,” two public health experts, Farzad Mostashari and Ezekiel Emanuel, recently wrote in the news publication Stat. “Knowing that a ball player has gotten 134 hits isn’t that informative. What is informative is knowing that those 134 hits were made during 335 at-bats, which translates into a batting average of .400.”

Knowing how that percentage of positive tests is changing can help determine the course of the outbreak, they wrote.

Birx used the measure Wednesday, along with the number of new cases per day, to contrast the severity of the outbreak in two of the biggest U.S. cities.

New York had a positivity rate of more than 40 percent, with 11,000 new cases per day. In contrast, Los Angeles, which along with much of the West Coast is seen as a relative success story, had a positivity rate of just 9 percent and 800 new cases.

“And so this really gives us some idea of what it takes,” Birx said, pointing to Los Angeles. “They have been continuously mitigating.”

Areas at risk of becoming the next epicenter had positivity rates between those of New York and Los Angeles, effectively serving as a warning sign. New Orleans had a positivity rate of 28 percent, followed by Detroit at 26 percent and Chicago at 18 percent.

The metric can also be read as an indicator that the country is not doing enough testing.

Nationally, the positivity rate of coronavirus tests is about 20 percent. Ashish Jha, director of the Harvard Global Health Institute, said that is “absolutely” a sign of insufficient testing.

He also noted that the positivity rate has increased in the past two weeks, an indication that the U.S. is not ramping up its total number of tests fast enough to keep pace with the spreading virus.

“A very high percent positive rate means you're probably missing a lot of people who have the disease,” he said, suggesting New York may have even more unconfirmed cases.

But in places such as Los Angeles, where the rate is much lower, that is a sign “there probably aren’t a lot of cases that I’m not seeing.”

Los Angeles County on Friday extended its stay-at-home order to May 15. It was previously scheduled to end on April 19.

The positivity rate certainly has its limits as a metric, though, mainly because it depends in large part on who is getting tested.

The bulk of testing is not being carried out in a systematic or randomized way that would best answer questions such as how far the virus has spread in a community.

“It can be so strongly influenced by just exactly what are the criteria for testing,” said Jeffrey Martin, a professor of epidemiology and biostatistics at the University of California San Francisco.

He said better metrics for the severity of an outbreak are deaths and intensive care unit admissions.

As Mexico and Saudi Arabia fight over a deal to bring the oil-price war to an end, Mexico has a powerful defense: a massive Wall Street hedge shielding it from low prices.

With talks well into their third day, the Mexican sovereign oil hedge, which insures the Latin American country against low prices and is considered a state secret, is a factor that may make the country less inclined to accept the OPEC+ agreement.

For the last two decades, Mexico has bought so-called Asian style put options from a small group of investment banks and oil companies, in what’s considered Wall Street’s largest - and most closely guarded - annual oil deal. The options give Mexico the right to sell its oil at a predetermined price. They are the equivalent of an insurance policy: the country banks all gains from higher prices but enjoys the security of a minimum floor. So if oil prices remain weak or plunge even further, Mexico will still book higher prices.

The hedge isn’t the only reason Mexico is holding out. But it strengthens the country’s hand and makes it less desperate for a deal than countries whose budgets have been ravaged by the collapse in oil prices since the start of the year - first because of the coronavirus and then because of the price war launched by Saudi Arabia.

The main reason driving President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, a leftwing populist, to resist the deal is his pledge to revive oil production via state-owned Petroleos Mexicanos. Slashing 400,000 barrels a day to comply with the OPEC+ deal, rather than the 100,000 barrels a day that Mexico has counter-offered to Saudi Arabia, would put on hold his ambitious plan to return Pemex to its former glory. The hedge has shielded Mexico in every downturn over the last 20 years: it made $5.1 billion when prices crashed in 2009 during the global financial crisis, and it received $6.4 billion in 2015 and another $2.7 billion in 2016 after Saudi Arabia waged another price war.

The operation comes at a cost. In recent years, Mexico has spent about $1 billion annually buying the options. Mexico has disclosed very few details about its insurance for 2020 after it declared the sovereign hedge a state secret. However, based on limited public information, alongside historical data about previous years, it’s possible to make a rough estimate of the potential payout if prices remain low.

The government told lawmakers it has guaranteed revenues to support the assumptions for oil prices made in the country’s budget - of $49 a barrel for the Mexican oil export basket, equivalent to about $60-$65 a barrel for Brent crude.

It locks in that revenue via two elements: the hedge, and the country’s oil stabilization fund. The fund historically has only provided $2-$5 a barrel, so it’s realistic to assume that Mexico hedged at $45 a barrel at least for its crude. In the past, Mexico has hedged around 250 million barrels, equal to nearly all its net oil exports in an operation that runs from Dec. 1 to Nov. 30.

Using all those elements, a rough calculation suggests that if the Mexican oil export basket were to remain at current levels, the country would receive a multi-billion dollar payout. Since December, the Mexican oil basket has averaged $42 a barrel. If current low prices for Mexican oil continue until the end of November, the average would drop to just above $20 a barrel, and the hedge would pay out close to $6 billion, according to Bloomberg News calculations.

No one at the Finance Ministry or Energy Ministry was immediately available to comment.

Man Who Featured in 5 Person Polyamorous Relationship Charged With Child Abuse

Infant suffered broken leg, arm and skull fractures during vicious attack.

A man who featured as one of the four male partners in a polyamorous relationship with a pregnant woman that received media attention in December has been charged with aggravated child abuse after the 5-week-old baby suffered multiple severe injuries.

22-year-old Ethan Baucom was one of the individuals shown in a Barcroft TV production which told the story of 20-year-old Tory Ojeda sharing her Jacksonville, Fla. with three of her four partners, including Baucom.

Ojeda revealed that she was marrying one of the men in the house, Travis, but that the father of her baby was another partner called Christopher.

"We're all raising the baby together — so everyone's Dad," Ojeda said. "We're all very, very excited to be raising a baby together."

Christopher said he was looking forward to sharing father responsibilities with the other men in the house, commenting, "There is a lot of support between all of us dads and it's something we can tag team."

It has now been revealed that one of those men, Ethan Baucom, admitted to physically abusing the 5-week-old baby while babysitting the infant.

According to reports, the baby suffered a "broken leg, arm, ribs and skull fractures."

The police report also reveals that Baucom, who told officers he needed to tell the truth," heard a "pop" during the incident, which occurred on March 12th.

He told police he was "frustrated" at his inability to get any sleep during the babysitting and that this was the reason for carrying out the assault, further details of which are redacted in the official police report.

Authorities got involved when officers were called to a hospital on March 15 and told about the baby's severe injuries as well as the the fact the infant had suffered "multiple brain bleeds." Experts concluded the baby had been attacked at least three separate times.

The baby's mother called the Florida Department of Children and Families five days after the incident took place. Baucom told her he had merely "squeezed" the child.

"I am so distraught that words cannot describe," said the baby's grandmother in response to the incident. "Oh the horror of all this! I'm so overwhelmed with pain, heartache and sorrow over this."

The baby is expected to make a full recovery with no permanent damage. Baucom is now in jail.
