Another Obama Solar Company Burns Out – DC Solar Owners Plead Guilty to Largest Ponzi Scheme in Eastern California History

Another Obama solar initiative bites the dust, but not until after stealing millions from individuals, companies and the US government.

This solar project turned into the largest Ponzi scheme in Eastern California history.

It was reported this week that the owners of a massive solar company turned ponzi scheme were indicted this week in Eastern California. According to the DOJ in Eastern California:

The owners of DC Solar, a Benicia-based company, pleaded guilty today to charges related to a billion dollar Ponzi scheme— the biggest criminal fraud scheme in the history of the Eastern District of California. The government’s investigation has resulted in the largest criminal forfeiture in the history of the District with over $120 million in assets forfeited that will go to victims, and has returned $500 million to the United States Treasury, with more to come, U.S. Attorney McGregor W. Scott announced.

Jeff Carpoff, 49, of Martinez, pleaded guilty today to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering. His wife, Paulette Carpoff, 46, pleaded guilty today to conspiracy to commit an offense against the United States and money laundering. According to court documents, between 2011 and 2018, DC Solar manufactured mobile solar generator units (MSG), solar generators that were mounted on trailers that were promoted as able to provide emergency power to cellphone towers and lighting at sporting events. A significant incentive for investors were generous federal tax credits due to the solar nature of the MSGs.

The conspirators pulled off their scheme by selling solar generators that did not exist to investors, making it appear that solar generators existed in locations that they did not, creating false financial statements, and obtaining false lease contracts, among other efforts to conceal the fraud. In reality, at least half of the approximately 17,000 solar generators claimed to have been manufactured by DC Solar did not exist.

U.S. Attorney Scott stated: “This billion dollar Ponzi scheme hurt investors and took money from the United States Treasury. This case represents not only the largest criminal fraud scheme in the history of the District, it also represents the largest criminal forfeiture in the history of the District with over $120 million in assets forfeited. All of this money will be returned to the victims. This scheme also targeted the United States Treasury, and we have returned $500 million to the Treasury to date. Agents, investigators and attorneys from various federal agencies are still working to continue to return money to victims and the United States Treasury. Today’s guilty pleas sends a strong message that fraudsters will get caught and will pay for their crimes. You can run, but you cannot hide.”

The forfeiture included seizing and auctioning 148 of the Carpoffs’ luxury and collector vehicles, including the 1978 Firebird previously owned by actor Burt Reynolds. This historical auction resulted in recouping approximately $8.233 million for victims. In addition to their collection of luxury and collector vehicles, Jeff and Paulette Carpoff used money from the scheme to pay for a minor-league professional baseball team and a NASCAR racecar sponsorship; to purchase luxury real estate in California, Nevada, the Caribbean, Mexico, and elsewhere; a subscription private jet service; a suite at a professional football stadium; and jewelry.

The Wall Street Journal reported that both Berkshire Hathaway and Progressive Insurance Company invested in the phony solar firm and they obviously lost money as well.

This is not the first solar company that originated during the Obama Administration and benefited from government subsidies in the process. Solar startup Solyndra went bankrupt and swindled the US government out of more than a half a billion dollars as well.

Maybe it would be a good idea to allow free market capitalism to run things and perhaps a working solar initiative will come into fruition that won’t cost the US government billions.

Australia Day Protested as ‘Invasion Day’ by Aboriginals and Anti-Patriots

Thousands of people joined “Invasion Day” protests in cities across Australia on Sunday to mark the beginning of British colonisation of the vast continent.

January 26 is officially recognised as Australia Day, a public holiday to celebrate the origins of the modern nation and is commemorated with fireworks, concerts and citizenship ceremonies.

However, the date is a time of mourning for indigenous Australians, who have inhabited the land for 65,000 years and view the arrival of British settlers in 1788 as heralding two centuries years of pain and suffering.

Annual rallies have steadily grown in size as protesters bring attention to injustices faced by indigenous people and call on the government to change the date of Australia Day.

It was only formally established as a nation-wide celebration in 1994.

This year, non-indigenous Australians were asked to give reparations in the form of a donation to the #PayTheRent campaign.

Melbourne rally organiser Lidia Thorpe, a former Victoria state government politician, drew attention to the plight of Aboriginal families who had to pay for the funerals of relatives who died in custody.

“It’s 2020 and we’re still trying to raise money to bury our people. So we’re asking people to pay the rent, you’re on stolen land,” she said.

“It’s time to reparate for the mass injustice that we’ve had as first people of this country.”

Chants of “Always was, always will be, Aboriginal land” rang out as large crowds marched through the city.

Some waved the Aboriginal flag while others held aloft signs with slogans such as “No Pride in Genocide” and “Sovereignty Was Never Ceded”.

One protester, who gave her name only as Sophie, said she believed Australia Day should be abolished entirely rather than simply moved to another date.

“I think any day that has these barbeques and celebrating Aussie pride, I think that’s absolutely inappropriate,” she told AFP.

“I don’t think there’s any day that you can celebrate Australia Day without also celebrating a genocide.”

Trump defense team signals focus on Schiff

At several points during their opening argument, President Trump’s defense team trained their fire on Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), removing any doubt about their intent to make the House manager’s credibility an issue at the impeachment trial.

Addressing the Senate on Saturday, Trump’s lawyers accused Schiff of repeatedly stretching the truth and creating false impressions amid his pursuit to take down the president.

“Chairman Schiff has made so much of the House’s case about the credibility of interpretations that the House managers want to place on — not hard evidence — but on inferences,” said Patrick Philbin, deputy counsel to Trump.

“It is very relevant to know whether assessments of evidence he’s presented in the past are accurate,” Philbin said of Schiff. “And we would submit they have not been, and that that is relevant for your consideration.”

The defense team portrayed Schiff as having first launched his overreaching efforts against Trump during former special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation and continuing through Trump’s impeachment trial.

The attacks on Schiff were perhaps unsurprising, as the House Intelligence Committee chairman has emerged as the lead prosecutor among House managers pressing the case against Trump in the Senate.

In fact, Schiff anticipated the offensive and delivered a warning to senators last night that spelled out specific attacks he expected to be lodged against him, some of which materialized Saturday.

“I think the second thing you'll hear from the president's team is, attack the managers. Those managers are just awful. They're terrible people,” Schiff said. “Especially that Schiff guy. He's the worst. He's the worst.”

Schiff’s prediction earned him smiles from some Senate Republicans, notably Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who has praised the congressman during the proceedings, despite his nearly assured vote for Trump’s acquittal.

If he wasn’t already, Schiff became one of the prominent faces of Democratic impeachment efforts Thursday, after an emotional speech went viral, during which he discussed the need for moral consensus, saying that “right matters, and the truth matters.”

Former Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director Tom Homan said Sunday that U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made “dangerous” and “idiotic” statements regarding ICE and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at a campaign rally for 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders in Iowa.

“She's disgusting,” Homan said on “Fox & Friends Weekend” on Sunday morning, reacting to Ocasio-Cortez’s comments the night before.

On Saturday, with Sanders, I-Vt., tied up in Washington at President Trump's Senate impeachment trial, Ocasio-Cortez addressed his supporters in Ames, Iowa, calling for the abolition of ICE and CBP.

The New York Democrat also urged Sanders' supporters to start "tipping people off" if they see federal immigration authorities taking action against illegal immigrants in their communities.

“Organizing is about tipping people off if you start to see that ICE and CBP are in communities to try and keep people safe,” Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., said in Iowa on Saturday.

“I'm to not here to reform some of these systems when we talk about immigration. I'm here because Sen. Sanders has actually committed to breaking up ICE and CBP. That's why I'm here.”

“I’m disgusted,” Homan said reacting to her statements. “She says you want to tip off the community to keep the community safe, that's what ICE is doing.”

Homan then brought up statistics from 2018, pointing out that most of the illegal immigrants ICE agents arrested last year had criminal histories, which include homicide, rape or assault.

According to the ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Report for fiscal year 2018, 138,117 aliens with criminal histories, which include convicted criminal and pending criminal charges, were arrested.

“ICE Is keeping the community safe,” Homan said. “She [Ocasio-Cortez] stands up on stage - first of all, it's an incredibly stupid statement she made, which doesn't surprise me, because she’s about as far from smart as anybody could possibly be, but what she said is dangerous.”

“These men and women put their lives on the line every day to arrest criminals off the streets, especially in New York,” he continued.

“My last year as ICE director, we took 5,000 criminals off the streets of New York. These ICE agents [have done] more to protect the residents of New York than she ever has done or ever will do.”

He then went on to say her comments on Saturday night were “dangerous” and “idiotic,” adding that he “can't believe she can stand up on stage and make a statement like that and not have any repercussions from the House Ethics Committee.”

“I mean, they're trying to remove the president of the United States, a sitting president, at the same time she's saying ICE shouldn’t remove criminal aliens,” Homan said. “They are saying the president is obstructing them. There's nobody been obstructing more than Congress. They've been obstructing this president from Day One.”

He went on to say, “Standing on stage and telling people to give a heads up that the good guys are going to be arresting the bad guys, ICE is in your neighborhood, go run and hide. That's obstruction. That's a crime and she’s standing on stage doing that. She's disgusting. Something needs to be done about it.”

When asked why he thinks ICE had become a targets for Democrats Homan answered, “Because they're enforcing the law.”

“President Trump, who in my opinion is the greatest president I ever worked for, he believes law enforcement should enforce the law. He believes you don't reward law breakers, you reward them with a set of handcuffs. That’s the way it’s supposed to be,” Homan said.

“So they're vilifying the men and women of ICE for simply doing their jobs, to run toward danger when everybody else is running away from danger.”

He went on to say, “AOC wouldn’t have the backbone to do the job they do. She doesn't like what they do? Then change the law, but stop vilifying the men and women of ICE.”

“I buried ICE agents, I buried border patrol agents,” he continued. “Maybe she ought to see what it's like to try to console a wife or a child of a fallen officer?”

Homan added, “It’s disgusting what she said.”

Tether Launches Gold-Backed Stablecoin, Begins Trading On Bitfinex

Tether is now supporting a gold-backed stablecoin, Tether Gold (XAU₮), according to a Jan. 23 press release. One token represents ownership of one troy fine ounce of physical gold, currently worth approximately $1,550.

The new product is available as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum blockchain, as well as a TRC20 token on Tron (TRX).

The funds are said to be backed by physical gold held in a “Switzerland vault,” the press release reads. According to Tether, its gold offering is the only product among its competition that does not charge custody fees.

Tether has also invited all exchanges wishing to support the new token to contact the company. Blockchain information for the Ethereum contract shows that there is currently an outstanding supply of almost 4,000 tokens, which would be equivalent to a $6.2 million market capitalization.

Bitfinex has already launched XAUT trading, with one quarter of the ERC-20 supply having been moved to Bitfinex. As a closely-affiliated company to Tether, it was expected for Bitfinex to be the first to offer the new token.

Plans for commodity-backed Tethers were in full swing since at least September 2019.

Tether has often been criticized for its opaque reserve management, with one high-profile class action lawsuit alleging that the company used this to manipulate the market in 2017.

In addition, Bitfinex reportedly used Tether reserves to cover a liquidity shortfall following issues with its payment provider, Crypto Capital Corp.

Kobe Bryant joined such players as LeBron James, who attacked the president for taking the “honor” out of sports teams visiting the White House.

The US National Institutes of Health (NIH) is launching a rush program to develop a vaccine against the China coronavirus.

The goal? Have a vaccine ready for human testing in an unprecedented 90 days.

NIH is partnering with a US vaccine company, Moderna, Inc.

The vaccine is a new type called RNA. According to Reuters (“With Wuhan virus genetic code in hand, scientists begin work on a vaccine,” Jan 24, 2020), “[these are] vaccines based on ribonucleic acid (RNA)—a chemical messenger that contains instructions for making proteins.”

The PHG Foundation/University of Cambridge explains further: “Unlike a normal vaccine, RNA vaccines work by introducing an mRNA sequence (the molecule which tells cells what to build) which is coded for a disease specific antigen [virus]; once produced within the body, the antigen [virus] is recognised by the immune system, preparing it to fight the real thing.”

Let’s have a look at Moderna (twitter), the company that will be making and testing the new RNA vaccine against the China coronavirus. Its website states, in a January 23rd press release: “Moderna Announces Funding Award from CEPI to Accelerate Development of Messenger RNA (mRNA) Vaccine Against Novel Coronavirus”.

Funded by CEPI. Who is that? (twitter) Its website states: “CEPI is a innovative global partnership between public, private, philanthropic, and civil society organisations. We’re working together to accelerate the development of vaccines against emerging infectious diseases and enable equitable access to these vaccines for people during outbreaks.”

A more relevant quote: “CEPI was founded in Davos by the governments of Norway and India, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Wellcome Trust, and the World Economic Forum.”

Bill Gates. Doesn’t that send your trust and faith rocketing up into the sky?

There is more. Going back to the Moderna Inc. website — at the bottom of the press release referenced above, we find a VERY interesting statement, in a section titled, “Special Note Regarding Forward-Looking Statements”: “…there has never been a commercial product utilizing mRNA technology approved for use…”

And there you have it. The vaccine that is being tapped by the US government… under its National Institutes of Health…through drug company Moderna…HAS NEVER BEEN USED ON THE PUBLIC BEFORE. IT IS NOT LICENSED FOR PUBLIC USE.

RNA VACCINES AND THE TECHNOLOGY THEY USE ARE ENTIRELY EXPERIMENTAL.

AND THIS IS THE TYPE OF VACCINE BEING RUSHED INTO EXISTENCE IN 90 DAYS.

What in the world could possibly go wrong?

One way to find out is to unleash it on millions of people, stand back, and see.

The PHG Foundation at the University of Cambridge gives us a substantial clue: “… better understanding of [RNA] vaccine adverse effects is needed – these can include inflammation or autoimmune reactions.”

Autoimmune reactions—the human immune system attacks healthy elements and processes of the body itself. The body goes to war with itself.

I’m sure you would volunteer for a test run of the vaccine, right? You would certainly offer up your child for a grand experiment, wouldn’t you?

Conspiracy theorists immediately took advantage of Kobe Bryant’s death on Sunday after the legendary basketball star was involved in a helicopter crash.

The 41-year-old and four others passed away, TMZ reported, after an accident involving the athlete’s private helicopter in the California city of Calabasas.

While sports fans mourned Bryant’s passing, conspiracy theorists online latched onto the tragedy as proof of their distorted beliefs.

Specifically, adherents of the QAnon conspiracy, which claims that a secret government entity known as “Q” is aiding President Donald Trump in dismantling the “deep state,” began concocting theories surrounding Bryant’s passing.

The group, which has been tied to numerous instances of violence and deemed a potential domestic terror threat by the FBI, has even suggested that Bryant’s death may have been intentional in an effort to distract the public from the impeachment trial against the president.

“Kobe’s death would definitely overshadow the impeachment trial,” Twitter user @XanderHamiltQn said alongside numerous Q-related hashtags.

Rosamond Soong Ching-ling (27 January 1893 – 29 May 1981) was a Chinese political figure. Something doesn't seem right here.

At 2:30 in vid related, Burbank Tower told the pilot to keep his squawk (iow, as previously assigned, not 1200). Then talking to Van Nuys Tower, he said he wanted to be handed off to Approach, so he would have had no reason (and not be permitted) to change it. He reads back the handoff frequency correctly.

SoCal asks him to IDENT at 3:57 and then at 4:03 SoCal says he was on a 1200 (VFR) squawk which makes no sense, unless he improperly changed it (why?), or the controller saw the IDENT of another aircraft. Even under normal circumstances, this would be unusual.

These recordings raise more questions than they answer. The raw ADS-B data, if any was captured publicly might be interesting.

TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Tokyo police on Saturday arrested a former employee of SoftBank Corp. on suspicion of illegally obtaining trade secrets of the firm after being instigated by two officials at the office of the Russian trade representative in Japan.

I was able to get the squawk code information from flightradar24. It doesn't show up in the downloadable CSV, but you can see here in the playback toward the end of the flight, the pilot seems to inexplicably, (at least from the info in the recordings in the below youtube link, which all seem legit) change the squawk from his assigned 0235 to 1200.

I know VASAviation recordings are cut to eliminate long periods of silence, so it would be difficult to line up flightradar24's data with that video directly.

Still, why he would presumably do this is really a mystery, given the clear circumstances. The track continues for about another four minutes after that happens.

Bizarre choice by the pilot? Did somebody accidentally kick the VFR button on the transponder? Partial equipment failure? Mode C radar jamming? Sabotage? If this flight data were faked, to coin an old phrase around here, sloppy job, Mossad? I don't know, it just isn't sitting right with me.

For those who can read topographic maps. Flight data indicates Kobe's copter was flying around 1200 feet at the time of the crash. topo maps show that in the region where the copter went down, the floor elevation along Las Virgenes Rd is 800 feet, and a short distance to the east, the elevation rises sharply to near 1700 feet. Wi Tu Lo, Bang Ding Ow.

The red star is where the accident site was, specifically where the emergency vehicles were staged.

Note there is a gun club right near where the copter went down. Gun Club Rd.

State Funerals require careful planning.

ROME (Reuters) - Italy’s right-wing leader Matteo Salvini failed in his effort to overturn decades of leftist rule in the northern region of Emilia-Romagna on Sunday in an election that brought huge relief to the embattled center-left. Pollster forecasts based on an ongoing count predicted the incumbent PD governor, Stefano Bonaccini, had won between 51%-49% of the vote compared to 43%-45% for the candidate backed by the League and its allies.

Salvini had campaigned relentlessly in the region since the start of the year, seeking a shock victory that he hoped would bring down the fragile national government, which includes the PD and is riven by internal strife. Although he fell short in Emilia-Romagna, Salvini took comfort from the fact that his rightist bloc had secured a resounding victory in a separate regional election held on Sunday in the underdeveloped southern toe of Italy, Calabria.

But the main prize was undoubtedly Emilia-Romagna, one of Italy’s wealthiest regions, which is home to the Ferrari sports car and Parmesan cheese, and has proved an impregnable leftist stronghold for generations. “Emilia-Romagna has sent a signal. Salvini knows how to talk about problems, but he doesn’t know how to sort them out and the people have responded,” said PD leader Nicola Zingaretti. Underscoring the enormous interest in the ballot, turnout hit 68%, some 30 points up on the last such election in 2014.

But while the PD dodged disaster, there was less good news for its coalition partner, the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement, which looked on course to win barely 5% of the vote in Emilia-Romagna and little more than 6% in Calabria. The party emerged as Italy’s largest group in 2018 national elections with 33% backing, but it has seen its support slide in recent months leading to a wave of defections amongst its lawmakers and the resignation of its leader Luigi Di Maio. Political analysts predicted that Sunday’s ballot-box setback would weaken the 5-Star’s standing within the coalition and give the PD more power to dictate its own policy priorities.

Three years into his presidency and President Trump is still fighting to build and pay for his border wall.

After a Republican-held Congress led by Paul Ryan failed to get his requests for wall funding passed by during his first two years in office, the president faced dauntless resistance last year from a Democratic-controlled House.

The commander-in-chief was forced to circumvent Congress through a national emergency declaration that had to be challenged in the courts to obtain required funding to secure the border.

While gridlock in Washington continues to impede border wall construction, We The People have the ability to bypass the government and build a wall along the 2,000-mile southern border faster and cheaper than the bureaucrats inside the beltway will permit, explains retired Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke.

“Here’s the problem, when you go with the federal process, procurement process – it takes too long. You have too many people with their hands in the pot,” Clarke told Newsmax’s Chris Salcedo. “You have environmentalists that will throw long jabs up in front of you with environmental impact studies. It takes too darn long. It’s taken the president of the United States nearly four years to build 100 miles.”

As an advisory board member of We Build The Wall Inc., Clarke said he has no doubt Tommy Fisher, CEO of a private the construction firm Fisher Industries, and We Build The Wall Inc., a crowdfunded non-profit, can get the job done using less time and money than the government.

“I know Tommy Fisher, personally, very well. I worked with him on the border wall sector on private property that we built near the El Paso sector near New Mexico. He does great work. He’s got a great mind to be able to get this thing done.”

In just four days over Memorial Day weekend, WBW built its first wall on private property in Sunland Park, New Mexico, contracting Fisher Industries to construct the barrier.

The non-profit and the construction company are currently near completion of a second 4-mile long wall, of which Fisher contributed $13 million of his own money to build, in Mission, Texas along the Rio Grande as they joining forces to blueprint construction of a third steel bollard barrier along the border.

“Do the math – we could have had this whole thing done using private contractors because of the federal law and the federal process – the federal government does nothing cheap,” Clarke said. “They do nothing efficiently and they do not work with all-deliberative speed.

I found the investigation report for helicopter crash that killed Standard Hotel manager. Interesting, the pilot from the Standard Hotel Mgr crash received a phone call just prior to the flight and was upset that the charter company switched the helicopter he was using for the flight. You squawk 1200 when you are VFR, but you usually get permission first. He should have kept squawking 0235 so that flight following could identify him to Thousand Oaks.

What is really odd is he was up by Van Nuys and the 118, then he came way south towards the hills. He could have stayed over the valley into TO. Actually, it would have been Newbury Park, which is right W of TO before you go down the hill into Camarillo.

Limitations on laws regarding the control of firearms. Provides that any law, executive order, administrative regulation, local ordinance, or court order shall be considered an unlawful infringement on the right of the people to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by Article I, Section 13 of the Constitution of Virginia and the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States if such law, order, regulation, ordinance, or order (i) imposes any tax, fee, or stamp on any firearm, ammunition, or firearm component; (ii) requires the registration of any firearm, ammunition, or firearm component; (iii) requires any person to register as an owner of a firearm, ammunition, or firearms component; (iv) prohibits any person from possessing, using, or transferring a firearm who is not prohibited from possessing a firearm; or (v) requires any person to surrender his firearm, ammunition, or firearm component who is not prohibited from possessing a firearm. The bill also provides that any person who knowingly deprives or attempts to deprive another person of such other person's right to keep and bear arms by enforcing any law, executive order, administrative regulation, local ordinance, or court order that unlawfully infringes on a person's right to keep and bear arms, even acting under the color of any state law, shall be liable for an unlawful deprivation of a person's constitutional rights and such injured person shall be entitled to damages, including punitive damages, and in the discretion of the court to an award of the cost of the litigation and reasonable attorney fees in an amount to be fixed by the court.

Kobe Bryant’s helicopter was previously owned by the State of Illinois

The Sikorsky-76 helicopter that crashed Sunday, killing basketball legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter and seven others was previously owned by the State of Illinois, according to online aircraft database Helis.

The helicopter was manufactured in 1991. Records show it was owned by the State of Illinois from 2007 until 2015 when then-Governor Bruce Rauner put the state’s fleet of aircraft up for sale in a cost-saving measure. While it was owned by the state, the luxury helicopter was used for what’s described as “VIP transport” of the governor and others.

When it flew Illinois governors, the helicopter carried the tail number N76ILL. An online database indicates the tail number was changed to N72EX in 2015 when it was purchased by the Island Express Holding Corporation of Van Nuys, California, the holding company of record at the time of the crash. Flight tracking websites show the helicopter received a new paint-job, including the Nike swoosh logo and Kobe Bryant’s signature “sheath” insignia after the 2015 ownership change.
