'It's not a good situation'

Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the leading members of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, bashed President Donald Trump's response to COVID-19 in an new interview while praising Joe Biden's campaign.

Speaking with the Washington Post, Fauci said the United States is "in for a whole lot of hurt" as winter begins because of the White House's current COVID response.

"It's not a good situation," Fauci said. "All the stars are aligned in the wrong place as you go into the fall and winter season, with people congregating at home indoors. You could not possibly be positioned more poorly."

Fauci, the nation's top infectious-disease expert, said an "abrupt change" needs to be made "in public health practices and behaviors," according to the Post.

On the other hand, Fauci praised Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) for "taking it seriously," explaining Trump is more concerned about the economy and keeping the country open.

Trump, Fauci said, is "looking at it from a different perspective." He said that perspective was "the economy and reopening the country."

How did the White House respond?

White House spokesman Judd Deere blasted Fauci, accusing the doctor of playing politics just days before Election Day.

"It's unacceptable and breaking with all norms for Dr. Fauci, a senior member of the President's Coronavirus Taskforce and someone who has praised President Trump's actions throughout this pandemic, to choose three days before an election to play politics," Deere said, Axios reported.

"As a member of the Task Force, Dr. Fauci has a duty to express concerns or push for a change in strategy, but he's not done that, instead choosing to criticize the President in the media and make his political leanings known by praising the President's opponent," Deere added.

Dr. Scott Atlas, a radiologist who was tapped by Trump to serve as an adviser to the White House Coronavirus Task Force, also responded to Fauci on Twitter, saying Fauci is "embarrassing himself."

In his interview with the Post, Fauci personally attacked Atlas.

"I have real problems with that guy," Fauci said of Atlas. "He's a smart guy who's talking about things that I believe he doesn't have any real insight or knowledge or experience in. He keeps talking about things that when you dissect it out and parse it out, it doesn't make any sense."

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar cited concerns over the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling ordering Minnesota ballots received after Election Day to be segregated from other votes. She said during an interview on Fox News Sunday that she no longer wants people to vote by mail.

“We really are focused right now on making sure people can vote and we’re just telling them, don’t vote by mail anymore,” said Klobuchar on “Fox News Sunday,” encouraging voters to vote by other means.

“Take your ballot to a dropoff box, we’ve got plenty of them in Minnesota,” Klobuchar added.

‘Absolutely Unsustainable’: Joe Biden’s Plans Would Increase Spending By $11 Trillion Over 10 Years, Report Says

Vice President Joe Biden’s plans, ranging from health care and social security to climate and infrastructure, would far exceed projected tax increases, according to a Manhattan Institute report.

“The policies he’s proposing are going to endanger the economy over the long term,” Brian Riedl, Manhattan Institute senior fellow and author of the report, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

Both Riedl and American Enterprise Institute resident fellow Kyle Pomerleau warned that the U.S. will need to reckon with the debt that it has been accumulating over the past two decades.

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s economic proposals would increase federal spending by $11 trillion over the next 10 years, increasing the deficit and potentially leading the U.S. toward a debt crisis, experts said.

Vice President Joe Biden’s plans, ranging from health care and social security to climate and infrastructure, would far exceed projected tax increases, according to an October 2020 Manhattan Institute budget report. With tax revenue projected to increase by $3.6 trillion over ten years under Biden, his administration would oversee a deficit increase of $7.4 trillion by 2030.

“The policies he’s proposing are going to endanger the economy over the long term,” Brian Riedl, Manhattan Institute senior fellow and author of the report, told The Daily Caller News Foundation.

He continued: “$4 trillion in new taxes, which is the biggest tax increase since the end of World War II, as well as $11 trillion in new spending, certainly more regulation, a higher minimum wage. All of that is going to weaken the economy.”

The largest line item in Biden’s spending proposals is the $2.4 trillion Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act, the coronavirus stimulus package Democrats including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have endorsed, according to Riedl’s report. Biden’s proposed $2 trillion climate and infrastructure initiative and $1.5 trillion health care expansion would also increase spending significantly.

Biden said in an Oct. 25 “60 Minutes” interview that raising corporate tax rates would pay for his plan to make state college free, according to The Annenberg Public Policy Center. Riedl estimated Biden’s college and post-secondary education plan would cost $750 billion.

“If we just made every corporation pay a minimum 15% tax, you got 91 pay no tax, that raises over $400 billion,” Biden said, according to The Annenberg Public Policy Center. “I can send every single qualified person to a four-year college in their state for $150 billion. I can make sure every single person who qualifies for community college can go, and we still have a lot of money left over.”

Huge Trump car caravan disrupted some voters in Temecula, authorities say

A massive caravan of President Trump supporters paraded for 60 miles through Riverside County on Sunday afternoon before converging on a large Temecula sports park, snarling traffic and upsetting some voters, officials there said.

The winding caravan of pickup trucks and other vehicles adorned with pro-Trump signs and American flags began at a Riverside restaurant and sped west along the 91 Freeway and then south on Interstate 15. They had been organized under a Twitter hashtag associated with similar events in other states.

The destination was the Ronald Reagan Sports Park in Temecula, a sprawling community center with soccer fields, a skate park and a voting location. An estimated crowd of roughly 4,000 people crowded the facility about 2 p.m., officials said.

Capt. Zach Hall with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said his officers made no arrests but did field a few complaints from intimidated voters — and scrambled to unwind a massive traffic jam in an area where officials weren’t prepared for so many vehicles at once.

“They kind of caught us off guard,” said Hall, who heads the department’s Temecula station. “We had a lot of traffic issues. The infrastructure there is not really designed for that kind of traffic.”

The caravan, which was peaceful if boisterous, caused a disturbance for some voters at the Temecula Recreation Center, a voting location. The partisan signs, shirts and other materials near the center prompted complaints to authorities about potential violations of the 100-foot electioneering rule in state law.

“Law enforcement was contacted to ensure that access to the parking lot and voter assistance center were clear,” said Brooke Federico, a spokeswoman for Riverside County, said in an email. “The Sheriff’s Department responded and cleared access to the parking lot and voter assistance center.”

Hall said deputies investigated the complaints and talked to poll workers, concluding that the Trump supporters had largely kept their distance.

The parade and mass gathering came the same day Trump supporters gathered in vehicles at another park near Grandview Drive and Newhall Ranch Road in Santa Clarita. Videos of the event on Twitter showed dozens of pickup trucks and vans, some painted with pro-Trump slogans, slowly moving and honking at the intersection.

The events came a day after hundreds of Trump supporters rallied in Beverly Hills. Wearing “MAGA” hats, waving U.S. flags and shouting “four more years” and “turn California red,” the demonstrators gathered at the intersection of Beverly and Santa Monica boulevards.

One NGO went from having 50 employees in 2013 to 1,050 in 2019. Another organization, which reported no income five years ago, somehow managed to rake in 23 million euros in 2019.

“After a complaint and evaluation of data on the operation and financial management of private entities operating in the field of immigration policy, audits were carried out in five Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs),” the National Transparency Authority said.

In the coming days, the activities of ten additional NGOs whose activities have been deemed of interest to the authority will be reviewed.

Pro-migration NGOs working across southern Europe have repeatedly been accused of working alongside human traffickers to realize their political objectives.

So far, the Hungarian government is this only European government which has taken decisive action to stop NGOs who aid illegal migration. In 2018, Viktor Orban’s government overwhelmingly passed the “Stop Soros” bill – a bill which allows the government to imprison individuals who aid of illegal immigrants. "

Let’s not hold our collective breath for this audit to reveal how much of the funding for these 320 pro-immigration groups comes from Jewish sources, most notably, George Soros, IsraAID, and the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS).

Coronavirus: Failing grades spike in Bay Area schools with distance learning

The first round of progress reports are being sent home for students caught in California’s experiment with online distance learning this fall, and for many, the grades are not good.

Districts around the Bay Area are reporting sharp spikes in failing grades so far this fall during a term that has largely been taught online over computers to students stuck at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

Sequoia Union High School District in Redwood City this week reported that the percentage of students with more than one failing grade this fall jumped to 29% from 19.7% in 2019, a nearly 50% increase. Mt. Diablo Unified School District in Contra Costa County reported a similar rise in high school students failing more than one grade — 30.66% from just over 19% the previous two academic years.

“We’re obviously concerned about that increase,” said Allen Weiner, president of the Sequoia district’s school board. “I’m not sure this is shocking or entirely unanticipated. We know the general challenges of trying to do distance learning have manifested themselves in greater struggles for a lot of our students.”

The reported grades are progress reports, and school officials say they are working to reach out and help students falling behind so they don’t end up with failing grades that for high school seniors could prevent them from graduating.

But while many districts around the Bay Area like Alum Rock Union School District in San Jose have yet to complete progress reports, the experience in Sequoia and Mt. Diablo don’t appear to be outliers.

In Sonoma County, superintendents convened a special meeting last week after similar spikes — with 37% of students across its 10 districts with high schools having at least one failing grade compared to 27% at the same time last year.

At Healdsburg Unified School District, the number of high school students with failing grades at this point in the fall roughly doubled to 39% from 20% in a typical year, said Superintendent Chris Vanden Heuvel.

“I was alarmed,” Vanden Heuvel said. “I reached out to other superintendents and found they were encountering the same thing.”

At Santa Rosa City Schools, Superintendent Diann Kitamura said they are seeing 30% to 50% more “F” grades this year than at the same time last year.

California schools were forced into sudden closure and remote teaching in mid-March as the coronavirus pandemic grew rapidly and Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered residents to stay in their homes. Schools adopted policies of not grading students for the remainder of the year, because many lacked access to computers, internet connections and suitable study space at home.

State officials expected to reopen classrooms in the fall, but after a summer surge of cases and objections from teacher unions over safety, they ordered districts in most of the state that were seeing uncontrolled outbreaks to start the fall term online. But to counter concerns about learning loss from the spring, they insisted this term that schools take online attendance and grade assignments.

Parents and teachers generally agree the fall version of distance learning is better than it was in the spring. Even so, there’s widespread agreement that kids learn better in classrooms.

And the emergence of fall progress grades provides the first clear window into how kids’ education is suffering with remote learning, and adding new urgency to the debate over reopening classrooms.

“It is massively affecting our kids,” said Sequoia board trustee Georgia Jack. “And this is just inexcusable.”

Educators and students say a big part of the problem with distance learning is that it’s harder for kids to focus on class when it’s a Zoom meeting on their screen at home than it is in the classroom, and that they aren’t getting as much instruction time in class as they did on campus.

Sathvik Nori, 17, of Atherton, the Sequoia district’s student board trustee, said that while the spike in failing grades was “definitely alarming,” it was “not entirely surprising.” He said the reduced online instructional time makes it harder for students to keep up in difficult subjects like math and science.

“If they don’t see their teacher as much, it’s harder to ask questions,” said Nori, a senior at Menlo-Atherton High School, adding that “in most of my classes, it’s pretty obvious 10% of the class is not participating” online.

School officials and students said students throughout the district are having trouble, including those who had earned high marks before. But they said those from families with less money and poorer districts suffer more, exacerbating the achievement gap that has hampered students from disadvantaged neighborhoods.

Here’s a short review to help clarify some of the questions regarding Hunter Biden’s tattoo and it’s meaning. He does in fact have a tattoo on his back, he was inked in September of 2018. The tattoo depicts the Finger Lakes, a group of long, narrow lakes that run roughly north–south in New York state.

One Internet sleuth surmises that Hunter’s tattoos might have some relationship with Hunter’s late mother:

But others on Twitter and other sites on the Internet have less innocent reasons for Hunter’s tattoo and his connections to the Finger Lakes region of New York.

One individual tweeted that the tattoo n Hunter’s back as well as a picture of the Finger Lakes region, includes a place labeled Lucifer Falls and Senaca Falls which are also mentioned. Hunter has a company named Rosemont Seneca:

Some are concerned with Hunter’s tattoo because there is at least one recent report about human trafficking in the Finger Lakes Region per mpnnow.com:

Human trafficking is not a crime that happens only in large metropolitan areas or foreign countries. It’s becoming more common in suburban and rural areas, including the Finger Lakes region.

“It’s real, and it’s here,” said Ragan Stevens, a nurse at UR Medicine Thompson Health.

Stevens and fellow nurse Cristine Crawford are providing mandatory training for Thompson staff when it comes to treating victims of human trafficking.

They are helping staff members understand the ways in which victims of trafficking commonly present in healthcare settings, giving them the tools to recognize the red-flag indicators and making sure they know what to do if they suspect someone is a victim of trafficking.

The nurses also debunk common myths and misconceptions, such as U.S. citizens can’t be trafficked and the victims knew what they were getting into.

Human trafficking is defined as the trade of humans for the purpose of forced labor, sexual slavery or commercial sexual exploitation for the trafficker or others.

A 2017 survey report from the Coalition to Abolish Slavery & Trafficking found that over half of labor and sex trafficking survivors surveyed had accessed health care at least once while being trafficked.

Apelbaum shares that Hunter’s enterprise of companies is connected to his tattoo and he has been making recurring transfers to an individual who is a ghost with no Internet footprint, from Hunter’s company OWASCO which happens to be the name of another one of the Finger Lakes:

In terms of significance, the tattoo is tied to his enterprise of companies. One example of this linkage is reoccurring money transfers to an individual (POI-1) who has no visible history, nor background, nor internet footprint. These transactions involved a reoccurring six digit wire transfer from OWASCO P.C. OWASCO which happens to be both the name of one of Hunter Biden’s companies and the name of one of the Finger Lakes.

UC president orders all on-campus students, faculty, staff to get flu shot by Sunday

All students, faculty and staff living, learning or working at any University of California location must receive a flu vaccine by Sunday unless they are given an exemption, UC President Michael Drake announced in an executive order.

UC community members can apply to receive a medical exemption or a disability or religious accommodation to forgo the flu vaccine requirement. In the event of an active outbreak, individuals granted an exemption may not be allowed on campus, Drake said in a statement.

The order revises an existing executive order issued July 31 by the UC Office of the President to reduce overcrowding and use of resources in hospitals in anticipation of this year’s flu season.

Although the number of new coronavirus cases and hospitalizations in California has fallen steadily during the last two months, health officials worry that hospitals may become overwhelmed if virus cases increase during the cold winter months, when people are more likely to be indoors together. Officials also worry this surge may coincide with the regular flu season.

“During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, where COVID-19, like influenza, results in respiratory symptoms, it is even more critical than usual to assure widespread vaccination,” Drake said in the statement. “As California progresses through its roadmap, the possibility of an outbreak or surge that overwhelms the health care system and causes hospitals to adopt crisis standards of care necessarily increases.”

Hospitals set aside extra beds every year ahead of the flu season. During the 2018-19 flu season, 2,037 people were hospitalized with influenza in San Francisco, Alameda and Contra Costa counties, according to the state Department of Public Health.

As part of the executive order, Drake also “encouraged” the universal vaccinations of all students, faculty, staff, and their families by Saturday.

Hundreds of vehicles parade through Humboldt County in support of Donald Trump

Hundreds of vehicles decorated with flags and signs supporting the re-election of President Donald Trump paraded up U.S. Highway 101 on Sunday afternoon.

The rally began in the Fortuna Safeway parking lot, where more than 200 vehicles lined Fortuna Boulevard from Starbucks up to Ray’s Food Place. Rally participants, many of whom were unmasked, honked and waved U.S., Trump 2020, Blue Lives Matter and “Don’t Tread on Me” flags as they waited for the caravan to take off.

Onlookers in Fortuna stationed themselves in lawn chairs along the parade route while volunteers helped to direct traffic in and out of the Safeway parking lot. Once the clock struck 1:30 p.m., the honking crowd headed north to McKinleyville.

The Humboldt County Republican Central Committee outline guidelines for the rally in a Facebook post: “As patriots, please respect our law enforcement and obey all laws of the road including seat belts. Please no standing or hanging out windows unsafely etc.”

Humboldt County Republicans also asked participants to avoid driving through the Arcata Plaza.

Humboldt County Republicans did not respond to a request for comment by Sunday’s publishing deadline.

A small group of approximately 10 countered the parade rallying outside of Taco Loco in Fortuna holding Black Lives Matter and Biden-Harris 2020 signs. A second group of about 20 stood outside of the Humboldt County courthouse with signs and a large banner reading “No fascism in our community.”

Both groups remained peaceful, although this reporter witnessed some obscene hand gestures made by Trump supporters in the direction of the Biden-Harris supporters.

Law enforcement was present along the parade route but did not interfere with the rally.

Holy Mass Dedicated to Victims of Nice Attack Held on All Saints' Day

A Holy Mass dedicated to the three victims of the attack in the Basilica of Notre-Dame in Nice was held on All Saints' day.

The ceremony, broadcast by KTO Catholic television, lasted almost two hours on Sunday and was presided over by Bishop of Nice Andre Marceau. Relatives of the victims were present at the mass, which was open only to parishioners, as well as Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi.

On 29 October, a 21-year-old man from Tunisia, later identified as Brahim Aoussaoui, killed three people with a knife in the Notre-Dame Basilica in Nice. The French government has designated it a terrorist attack.

The attacker was injured by police and is currently at a hospital in Nice. Estrosi said the man repeatedly shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is great) during the attack. According to the French authorities, the attacker crossed into France from Italy at the start of October.

An anti-terrorism investigation is underway. A total of six people have reportedly been questioned on suspicion of being linked to the attacker.

Another attack occurred in France's Lyon this week. A Greek Orthodox priest, identified as 52-year-old Nikolaos Kakavelaki, was shot at and injured in the 7th district of Lyon near a Greek church on Saturday afternoon. He is now in serious condition at the hospital. The gunman fled the scene of the shooting and is likely still at large, as Lyon police have released the initial suspect in the attack.

The Lyon and Nice attacks occurred as France is experiencing national dismay in the wake of an increasing Islamic threat following the brutal murder of French history teacher Samuel Paty by a radicalised teenager in mid-October.

In a statement, Ms Holgate said she offered her resignation and would not seek financial compensation.

“I have offered today the Chairman and Board of Australia, with great sadness, my resignation as chief executive with immediate effect,” she said.

“As Christmas approaches, it is critically important that Australia Post is absolutely focussed on supporting our customers and communities.

“We have prepared significantly for this peak, but still face significant challenges — keeping our people safe, managing the biggest ecommerce Christmas ever and planning in the face of unpredictable seasonal weather.

“I firmly believe that the ‘ship’ needs a strong captain at the helm to help navigate through this time.

“The current issue I am managing is a significant distraction and I do not believe it is good for either Australia Post or my personal wellbeing.

“Consequently, I have made the difficult decision to resign, hoping it will allow the organisation to fully focus on serving our customers.”

Ms Holgate said she also now accepted that the Cartier watches did not “pass the pub test”.

“I deeply regret that a decision made two years ago, which was supported by the Chair, to recognise the outstanding work of four employees has caused so much debate and distraction and I appreciate the optics of the gifts involved do not pass the ‘pub test’ for many,” she said.

“I still believe firmly that the people who achieved the Bank@Post outcome for Australia Post deserved recognition, their work secured a $220m investment over the following years, which dramatically improved the financial performance of the company, protected a critical community service which more than 50 per cent of the communities in Australia depend on and made our Community Post Offices sustainable for the long term.”

Ms Holgate’s job is one of the highest paid jobs leading a government enterprise in the nation.

It’s unclear whether her resignation means she will continue to co-operate with an inquiry into the purchase of four Cartier watches but some government sources indicated she was happy to do so.

It follows her lawyers hinting on Friday that a bitter legal war could loom over the Prime Minister’s “humiliating” decision to stand her down.

In a bombshell statement released by her lawyers last week, Ms Holgate — who was on a $1.5 million a year salary — had revealed her own legal advice suggests there is “no basis” to stand her down.

“Legally, in my opinion there are no grounds for Ms Holgate to be stood down, and ‘optics’ not a legally-valid defence,” the statement from Bryan Belling, partner at employment law firm Kingston Reid said, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

“Nor has she been informed as to why she should be stood down.”

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) is requiring restaurants, barbershops, tattoo parlors, recreational facilities, and entertainment establishments torecord the names, contact information, and visit times of all customersto “aid with contact tracing.” Any establishment that does not comply is threatened with a maximum $200 fine and a misdemeanor charge punishable with up to six months in prison.

The order, announced Friday, comes as Michigan’s Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and her administrationbegan backtracking on the state’s latest reopening plan and tightening COVID-19 restrictions,citing rising hospitalizations and deaths. Other states including New York have implemented similar contact tracing rules, requiring restaurants to record diners’ information in the case of an outbreak.

The bureaucratic pressure to shut down will be immense. The media, entertainment, and technology sectors will be sure to support and promote his decision. Polarization between "red" states and the nation's capital will intensify. The commanding heights of culture and business will consign the Republican Party to the ash heap of history. And opposition to the restoration of progressive rule will manifest itself as a populist revolt whose character, magnitude, disposition, and endgame can only be imagined.

As millions of people worldwide battle the symptoms of COVID-19, a group of “silent patients” may not even know they’re sick and spreading the virus. Asymptomatic people, by definition, have no physical symptoms of the illnesses they carry. Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) however, say they may be showing symptoms after all — in the sound of their cough. Their study has created an artificial intelligence program that can identify if someone has coronavirus by the way their coughing sounds.

Researchers programmed their AI model with thousands of different recorded coughs from both healthy and sick volunteers. When they fed in recordings of new patients, the system accurately detected 98.5 percent of coughs coming from people with a confirmed case of COVID-19. AI also successfully picked out 100 percent of asymptomatic cases from volunteers who reported not having any symptoms but tested positive for the virus.
