Toshiba Corp. says it has the technology to make such rapid-fire calculations a reality — not quite quantum computing, but perhaps the next best thing. The claim is being met with a mix of intrigue and skepticism at financial firms in Tokyo and around the world.

Toshiba’s “simulated bifurcation algorithm” is designed to harness the principles behind quantum computers without requiring the use of such machines, which currently have limited applications and can cost millions of dollars to build and keep near absolute zero temperature. Toshiba says its technology, which may also have uses outside finance, runs on PCs made from off-the-shelf components.

“You can just plug it into a server and run it at room temperature,” Kosuke Tatsumura, a senior research scientist at Toshiba’s Computer & Network Systems Laboratory, said in an interview. The Tokyo-based conglomerate, while best known for its consumer electronics and nuclear reactors, has long conducted research into advanced technologies.

Toshiba has said it needs a partner to adopt the algorithm for real-world use, and financial firms have taken notice as they grapple for an edge in markets increasingly dominated by machines. Hungary’s ruling Fidesz party was “an inch away” from leaving the European People’s Party (EPP) on Thursday, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said in a radio interview.

Referring to the European Parliament resolution on the rule of law in Hungary and Poland and broad EPP support for it, Orban said the reason why Fidesz was so close to quitting was that the majority of the party family “betrayed us”. He said the French, Spanish and Italian MEPs in the EPP were “clearly on our side”, and in the debate they argued that the party family should stand up for Hungary.

Ukraine's Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk has tendered his resignation after a leaked audio recording apparently revealed him criticising the president.

A voice sounding like Honcharuk's, but not officially confirmed as his, says President Volodymyr Zelensky only has a "primitive" understanding of economics.

Honcharuk also appears to admit that he himself is not good at economics.

Mr Zelensky, a TV comedian and businessman, was elected last April.

The audiotape affair comes at a difficult time for him, as his relations with President Donald Trump are under intense scrutiny. The US president is being impeached for allegedly trying to pressure Mr Zelensky into investigating political rival Joe Biden.

It remains unclear whether Mr Honcharuk genuinely intends to step down, Reuters news agency reports, quoting him as saying "do not jump to conclusions", when asked about his resignation.

The controversial audiotape was uploaded to an anonymous YouTube channel on Wednesday evening. Mr Honcharuk, 35, was apparently discussing the national budget with some other government ministers and finance chiefs....

Preska said that she no reason for documents to be withheld ‘to which there is no countervailing interest’ and said they should be released ‘ASAP’.

There is no set date on when the next document dump will be, other than in the ‘near future’.

McCawley said the next step was that the non-parties would be notified in two weeks and ‘get a two-week period to file an objection if they so want’.

‘The Judge will be reviewing those, assessing what she is allowing Maxwell to do which is set forth countervailing interests.’

McCawley said that that 'might be where the battle lies' because Maxwell has set forth an extensive list of reasons why these documents should not be released.

“I wake up every day and drive through this town and I am morally moved where I feel like I have to do something,” the famed addiction medicine specialist and former “Loveline” host tells ITK.

“We have people literally dying in our streets,” he says, contending the Los Angeles County and statewide government is “not functioning.”

People have sort of been swirling around me, going, ‘Oh, you should run for mayor.’ Well I didn’t really want that job. ‘Well, you should run for governor.’ Well, that’s not really possible. So I was sort of thinking about these things,” says Pinsky, who spoke last month about homelessness and drug abuse at a mental health summit at the White House.

With a political run on the brain, he says the televised impeachment hearings may have jolted him even more into the idea of trading medicine for a House bid.

“I was watching all the impeachment proceedings and I was going, ‘oh my God, our Congress is tied up and we’re dying out here in California. What are these people doing?’ ”

Pinsky, 61, says he soon realized he’s lived for 20 years in Pasadena, in House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff’s (D-Calif.) district.

“I thought, ‘oh my God, I have to run for that office at least just to get him to start participating in the governance of this region.’ ”

The celebrity doctor says right now he’s only “ruminating” about a potential run, and he might end up taking the plunge in a few years.

Pinsky says he’s “very moderate” and constantly changes his political party affiliation online, but if he were to wade into politics, he’d likely run as a Democrat in California’s “jungle primary” against Schiff. The 10-term lawmaker won his 2018 reelection bid in California’s 28th District with 78 percent of the vote.

While his core issues would be infrastructure, tackling homelessness and aiding the chronically mentally ill, Pinsky makes clear he would be a reluctant candidate.

“Believe me, I don’t want to,” he says of a possible run for Congress.

“I’d have to change my whole life, and I’m not really prepared to do that just yet,” the father of three adds.

Asked what he’d tell critics who might roll their eyes at another famous name thinking they can make it in politics, Pinsky replies, “I would say my eyes are rolling, too. I’d rather not be here. Point me in another direction where we can help the citizens of California, please. I’m all ears.”

“But the fact that I keep thinking about it tells me how profound the problems are,” he says, “that I feel obliged to maybe turn my life upside down just to get things governed out here.

“I am constantly morally mobilized because of the condition of what’s going on here in California.”

I saw this on twitter.

Pelosi spelled backwards is isolep, and there is a company created in 1991 involving Paul Pelosi, and it's called isolep.

I can explain why it's incredibly difficult for a sex-trafficked child to truly recover and have healthy relationships.

The younger the child is when the life-disrupting sexual assaults and dysregulation begin, the more difficult it is for the child to regain "normal" perspective and emotional reactions to sexual stimuli.

The most common situation is for a very young female child to be kidnapped, mind-controlled through individualized combinations of shame, blame, withholding of approval, awarding of approval for sexual interactions, and (if deemed necessary) physical beatings and deprivations to convince the female that unquestioning submission is the only route to survival. Shakespeare produced an owners' manual on this situation, titled, "The Taming of the Shrew."

Once liberated from abject submission as a lifestyle, the female (possibly still a minor child) is confronted with societal norms for behavior. She learns that only virgins retain any value as a wife for decent men who will value their women and treat them with respect and gentleness. All other females are treated as "the whore" and disrespected, mistreated and exploited. Since the sex-trafficked female child is already familiar with being disrespected, mistreated and exploited, such relationships feel "normal" to her, and she is very likely to select partners who re-create her childhood suffering again and again, until someday, with help, she is able to begin respecting herself and requiring better treatment from intimates.

For the innocent young male child who is abducted and sex-trafficked, regaining a healthy perspective on relationships is even more difficult. Because of lingering societal taboos on homosexuality, the male child who was sex-trafficked and then somehow rescued retains guilt for any pleasure he may have experienced while being abused. He is likely confused about right and wrong, good and evil. Males tend to reinforce the hierarchy of survival of the fittest, and respect/admire the stronger/cleverer, dominant male, even if/when said dominant male subjects more vulnerable people around him to beatings, torture, deprivation and abuse as control mechanisms.

The child who experienced inappropriate sexual contact as a child and nevertheless lived to tell his story, has to internally sanitize his experiences in a way which restores his sense of self-respect and individuality. He must simultaneously find a way to rationalize any physical pleasure he may have experienced with his inherent sexual orientation (usually heterosexual). He must establish a way of relating to his external environment in a way which offers him a sense of being in control, while expanding his world to allow other, emotionally healthy people, into his life.

For the male child who was sex-trafficked, society offers much less empathy, and messaging such as "any sex you got should have been gratefully accepted" and "if you enjoyed anal penetration, you're gay" relegates the maturing child to a limited and distorted view of right and wrong. Such a child may struggle more than most to establish healthy personal boundaries, and to maintain such boundaries in relationships.

Both male and female victims of pedophilia may react to their struggles with promiscuity upon puberty, due to a low self-esteem stemming from their early life experiences. Later in their sexual maturity, these individuals may feel shame for their pubescent acting-out and acquiescent sexual personas.

As adults, who have hopefully had their adolescent and early-adult years to heal from their childhood abuses, sex-trafficking victims often still wrestle with redefining themselves as "survivors" rather than victims, as a way to re-establish healthy personal boundaries and self-esteem.

For those people whose entire childhood and adolescence was marred by sexual slavery , degradation, torture and utter destruction of the self, adulthood's challenges to sustain healthy boundaries and become self-sufficient may seem like a pipe dream, no more attainable than becoming King or Queen, or even a self-made Billionaire. Such people need vast quantities of patience and reassurance, while being provided with carefully-controlled opportunities to experiment with self-sufficiency and healthy boundaries, before they will be prepared to engage in healthy relationships.

I hope that some of this information helps those who have never experienced the horrors of childhood abduction, molestation, rape and mind-control to be able to feel compassion and empathy for those lucky few who survive their traumatic childhood and are given a second chance at life.

2 GTA men indicted in U.S. for allegedly trafficking items for Pakistan nuclear program

Father, son accused of helping to ship materials using front companies

Two Mississauga, Ont., men have been indicted for allegedly helping to run an international procurement network over a five-year period to traffic materials such as aircraft parts and satellite communications equipment to support Pakistan's nuclear program.

Father and son Muhammad Ahsan Wali, 48, and Haji Wali Muhammad Sheikh, 82, are among five men accused of being associated with an alleged front company called Business World, based in Rawalpindi, a city in northern Pakistan, according to the United States Department of Justice.

The other three charged include another one of Sheikh's sons in Pakistan, as well as one man in Hong Kong and one in the United Kingdom. None of the allegations have been proven in court.

The group was indicted in October in a U.S. federal court for conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and the Export Control Reform Act. The indictment was unsealed this week.

"The defendants smuggled U.S.-origin goods to entities that have been designated for years as threats to U.S. national security for their ties to Pakistan's weapons programs," said U.S. Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers in a news release Wednesday.

"This indictment puts the world on notice not to do business with these defendants, and demonstrates our commitment to holding them accountable. It also stands as an example of the kind of deceptive behaviour U.S. businesses need to watch out for in designing appropriate export control and sanctions compliance programs."

$140K in wire transfers

In its news release, the Department of Justice said the accused worked from September 2014 to October 2019 to acquire materials from the U.S. for the Advanced Engineering Research Organization (AERO), which supplies weapons to Pakistan's armed forces, as well as to the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC).

Those materials included airplane and engine parts, power sensors, semiconductors and satellite communication equipment, among other items.

The U.S. lists both AERO and PAEC as contrary to its national security or foreign policy interests. AERO was added to the list in 2014 after the U.S. government said it found the group used front companies to obtain materials for Pakistan's cruise missile and drone program.

The indictment claims the accused tried to conceal the actual intended destinations of the materials obtained from the U.S., which were allegedly paid for by the Pakistani entities.

Iran's president says 'no limit' to nuclear enrichment

The Mississauga men allegedly received over $140,000 in wire transfers from a Pakistani bank account controlled by AERO and held in the name of a Rawalpindi branch of the supposed front company Business World. Those funds were then allegedly used to pay U.S. companies to export the goods from a Business World account in Canada.

The men also allegedly failed to apply for an export licence from the U.S. Department of Commerce to export the goods to Pakistan.

"Federal export control laws are vital tools that help prevent items from being exported overseas where they could be used in ways that can jeopardize our national security," U.S. Attorney for the District of New Hampshire Scott W. Murray said in the release.

The indictment says the accused have been connected to 38 separate exports from the U.S., involving 29 different companies around the world, including three in New Hampshire.

Each of the five men has been charged with two counts of conspiracy, the news release said.

None have been arrested.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas has presented the state's highest civilian honor to a 71-year-old man who shot and killed a gunman who opened fire at a church in December.

Gov. Greg Abbott Monday honored Jack Wilson, who jumped into action when a gunman opened fire on the congregation at West Freeway Church of Christ in White Settlement, Texas, near Fort Worth. (CNN VAN photo)

Abbott on Monday gave Jack Wilson the Governor's Medal of Courage.

Wilson is a firearms instructor who trained the West Freeway Church of Christ's volunteer security team.

He shot the attacker once in the head after the gunman opened fire with a shotgun in the church's sanctuary.

Two parishioners were killed in the attack.

Authorities later identified the attacker as 43-year-old Keith Thomas Kinnunen, who had a history of criminal and psychological trouble.

Open Letter To Legislators Regarding Fetal Cell DNA in Vaccines April 2019

My name is Dr. Theresa Deisher. I am Founder and Lead Scientist at Sound Choice Pharmaceutical Institute, whose mission is to educate the public about vaccine safety, as well as to pressure manufacturers to provide better and safer vaccines for the public. I obtained my doctorate from Stanford University in Molecular and Cellular Physiology in 1990 and completed my post-doctoral work at the University of Washington. My career has been spent in the commercial biotechnology industry, and I have done work from basic biological and drug discovery through clinical development.

I am writing regarding unrefuted scientific facts about fetal DNA contaminants in the Measles-Mumps-Rubella vaccine, which must be made known to lawmakers and the public.

Merck’s MMR II vaccine (as well as the chickenpox, Pentacel ,and all Hep-A containing vaccines) is manufactured using human fetal cell lines and are heavily contaminated with human fetal DNA from the production process. Levels in our children can reach up to 5 ng/ml after vaccination, depending on the age, weight and blood volume of the child. That level is known to activate Toll-like receptor 9 (TLR9), which can cause autoimmune attacks.

To illustrate the autoimmune capability of very small amounts of fetal DNA, consider this: labor is triggered by fetal DNA from the baby that builds up in the mother’s bloodstream, triggering a massive immune rejection of the baby. This is labor.

It works like this: fetal DNA fragments[i] from a baby with about 300 base pairs in length are found in a pregnant mother’s serum. When they reach between 0.46– 5.08 ng/mL, they trigger labor via the TLR9 mechanism[ii]. The corresponding blood levels are 0.22 ng/ml and 3.12 ng/ml. The fetal DNA levels in a child after being injected with fetal-manufactured vaccines reach the same level that triggers autoimmune rejection of baby by mother.

Anyone who says that the fetal DNA contaminating our vaccines is harmless either does not know anything about immunity and Toll- like receptors or they are not telling the truth.

If fetal DNA can trigger labor (a naturally desired autoimmune reaction), then those same levels in vaccines can trigger autoimmunity in a child. Fragmented fetal DNA contained in vaccines is of similar size, ~215 base pairs.[iii]

This is direct biological evidence that fetal DNA contaminants in vaccines are not in low innocuous amounts. They are a very strong proinflammatory trigger.

Administration of fragments of human fetal (primitive) non-self DNA to a child could generate an immune response that would also cross-react with the child’s own DNA, since the contaminating DNA could have sections of overlap very similar to the child’s own DNA.

Children with autistic disorder have antibodies against human DNA in their circulation that non- autistic children do not have. These antibodies may be involved in autoimmune attacks in autistic children.[iv]

New Jobless Claims Fall for 5th Straight Week Amid US Labor Market Strength

The number of initial jobless claims—a measure of Americans who applied for unemployment benefits—fell for the fifth straight week in early January, pointing to ongoing labor market strength.

Initial claims for state unemployment benefits fell by 10,000 to a seasonally adjusted 204,000 for the week ended Jan. 11, the Labor Department said on Thursday (pdf). Economists polled by Reuters expected claims would rise to 216,000 in the latest week, while those surveyed by MarketWatch forecast an even higher print of 220,000.

The better-than-expected initial claims figures are an encouraging sign for the U.S. economy, which saw slowing job growth in December.

The U.S. economy created 145,000 jobs last month after adding 256,000 positions in November, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said.

As superbugs spread, WHO raises alarm over lack of new antibiotics

The World Health Organisation warned Friday that a dire lack of new antibiotics was threatening efforts to curb the spread of drug-resistant bacteria, which kill tens of thousands of people each year.

The UN health agency published two new reports revealing that there are few new effective antibiotics in the pipeline, meaning that the world is running out of options for fighting so-called superbugs.

"Never has the threat of antimicrobial resistance been more immediate and the need for solutions more urgent," WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a statement.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) - A grand jury has brought charges in a sex trafficking case against former NBA player and one-time University of Alabama basketball standout Jim Farmer, who was caught up in an undercover law enforcement sting last October.

Farmer, 55, of Franklin, Tennessee, was arrested again after being indicted by the Rutherford County grand jury with attempted trafficking for sexual servitude, attempted solicitation of a minor and attempted patronizing of a prostitute, news outlets reported. He was released the same day, Jan. 10, on $100,000 bond.

Farmer will plead not guilty to the new charges at his next court appearance, his attorneys Worrick Robinson and Will Fraley said in a joint statement, The Daily News Journal reported. His lawyers questioned why his case was presented to the grand jury after a judge dropped his initial charges for lack of probable cause.

According to an affidavit from the first arrest, Farmer responded to an adult escort advertisement for meeting a juvenile for sex, communicating with an undercover officer who identified herself as a 16-year-old girl. Farmer allegedly agreed to pay $170 to have sex with the girl, and was arrested after arriving at the agreed location on Oct. 25.

Farmer was a leading scorer at Alabama before being picked in the first round of the NBA draft in 1987. He spent six seasons in the league, then went on to work as a country singer and model.

Looks like there is a disclosure in 2007 from Nancy "PelDawg" Pelosi. Her husband had earned income in the form of management fees from ISOLEP. I found some recored from 1996 in the disclosure forms on Google but the Office of the Clerk only goes back to 2007.

Feds Indict 5 New Mexico Compound Residents On Terrorism And Gun Charges

A federal grand jury in Albuquerque has indicted five residents of a rural New Mexico compound on new terrorism-related charges connected to an alleged conspiracy to attack FBI and military personnel.

The five defendants were arrested last year after authorities found 11 malnourished children living in squalor in the small community of Amalia, near the New Mexico-Colorado border. They also discovered a large cache of weapons, leading to charges of conspiracy and illegal possession of firearms.

The superseding indictment announced Thursday charges Jany Leveille, 36; Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, 40; Hujrah Wahhaj, 38; Subhanah Wahhaj, 36; and Lucas Morton, 41; with a conspiracy to provide material support for terrorist attacks on federal officers and employees.

"The indictment alleges that the defendants conspired to provide material support in preparation for violent attacks against federal law enforcement officers and members of the military," said Assistant Attorney General John C. Demers in a statement. "Advancing beliefs through terror and violence has no place in America, and the National Security Division continues to make protecting against terrorism its top priority."

Attorneys for the defendants withheld comment, saying that they are waiting for more information from the government.

"We still don't have all the documents from the government regarding this case," said Amy Sirignano, who represents Morton, as quoted by The Associated Press.

Sirignano said in an email sent to the AP on behalf of the defense that their clients would plead not guilty when they are arraigned next week.

Four of the compound residents also are charged with kidnapping a child who later died. The remains of a small child were discovered three days after the initial raid. The boy, 3-year-old Abdul-Ghani Wahhaj, was the son of defendant Siraj Ibn Wahhaj and had been reported missing from his home in Georgia since December 2017. The search for the child led the FBI to begin monitoring the group and to the eventual raid.

New Mexico state child abuse charges were dismissed last year when prosecutors mishandled the case.

"Federal prosecutors say that between Dec. 2017 and August 2018, the group, who are either siblings or related by marriage, had 'a common plan to prepare for violent attacks on government, military, educational and financial institutions,' " NPR's Vanessa Romo reported in September 2018.

The Justice Department statement laid out the allegations related to preparations for attacks against federal officers and employees:

"According to the superseding indictment, Siraj Ibn Wahhaj and Hujrah Wahhaj gathered firearms and ammunition, and all of the defendants transported people, firearms, and ammunition across state lines and constructed a training compound where they stored firearms and ammunition. The superseding indictment further alleges that Siraj Ibn Wahhaj and Morton constructed and maintained a firing range at the compound where they engaged in firearms and tactical training for other compound occupants, and that Leveille and Morton attempted to recruit others to their cause.

"The superseding indictment also charges Leveille, Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, and Morton with conspiring to attack and kill officers and employees of the United States, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1117. It was a part and an object of the conspiracy that the defendants would kill officers and employees of the United States, specifically, Federal Bureau of Investigation employees, government officials, and military personnel."

Venezuela Cash Hoard Sinks Below $1 Billion With Gold Locked Up

Venezuela’s international reserves, already at a 30-year low, have hit a grim new milestone as cash holdings fall below $1 billion amid crippling economic sanctions.

Venezuela’s central bank now has only about $800 million left in cash and an additional $200 million of other liquid assets, according to three people with knowledge of the bank’s balance sheet. While the country holds some 73 tons of gold in local vaults, selling it has become increasingly difficult amid the U.S. efforts to cut off Nicolas Maduro’s regime from a global network of buyers, banks and middlemen. The shrinking coffers mark a new low for Venezuela, where an economic crisis rooted in the collapse of its all-important oil industry has been exacerbated by wide-reaching U.S. sanctions that have cut the nation off from international capital markets. A shortage of cash could threaten the Maduro regime’s ability to continue food subsidy programs, import basic goods and maintain support from top military officials.

Press officials for Venezuela’s central bank didn’t respond to requests for comment. A significant chunk of Venezuela’s gold, 32 tons worth about $1.6 billion, remains in London after the Bank of England declined multiple requests from Maduro to repatriate the gold. While the central bank is independent, the U.K. government doesn’t recognize Maduro as the country’s legitimate leader and says his regime shouldn’t have access to overseas assets. Total reserves fell by $832 million this month to $6.11 billion, the lowest since July 1989. The drop is largely due to cuts in cash holdings of Chinese yuan, one of the people said.

The reserves also include about $400 million of special drawing rights that are hung up at the International Monetary Fund, which has also shut Venezuela out. The country had already whittled down its SDR holdings from almost $1 billion in March 2018.

Opposition leader Juan Guaido has been recognized by more than 50 nations as Venezuela’s rightful president since early 2019, and the sanctions that have cut Maduro off from the global financial system are part of efforts to oust his administration.

Another theory is that this may be part of the the white hats plan. It is very interesting that this is happening when the impeachment trial is happening.

Having marshal law declared in Virginia by the democratic governor might not be a bad idea.

Washington DC is almost completely surrounded by Virginia. If say shit hits the fan at this impeachment trial citizens either left wing or right wing might decide to take matters into their own hands.

Honcharuk is allegedly caught in the recording saying his boss President Zelensky “has a very primitive understanding of economic processes.” The alleged recording surfaced earlier this week and immediately sparked controversy; however, it remains unclear as to the ultimate source of the audio's creation and leak.

PM Honcharuk affirmed it is his voice on the audio, but suggested it was heavily edited to create a false impression. He said it was different dialogue from multiple government meetings strung together to present a falsehood, according to the WSJ.

“This content artificially creates the idea that my team and I do not respect the president,” Honcharuk explained in a statement on his Facebook page. “But this is not true.”

Renezmae Trial Delayed to Fall 2020

Malcolm Torres’ trial for the alleged murder of 5-year-old Renezmae Calzada was pushed back nearly a year Tuesday when the U.S. District Court accepted a joint motion from Torres’ defense and prosecutors for a continuance due to the complexity of the case.

Jury selection, with a trial to follow immediately, has been moved from Dec. 2 this year to Oct. 19, 2020.

The Nov. 13 joint motion stated extensive interviews, medical evidence and digital evidence have been collected in the case. Prosecutors reportedly provided the defense with thousands of pages of discovery—or facts of the case—as well as multiple recordings and a modified copy of Torres’ cell phone contents including nearly 30,000 images.

The parties said they will likely need to consult medical and possibly other experts to draft reports, and will each need to collect additional evidence.

While the Office of the Medical Investigator has reportedly provided preliminary autopsy reports, the final report is not complete.

The order from Chief United States District Judge William Johnson granting the motion sets out a 16-point schedule of deadlines for each party to complete aspects of pretrial research, documentation and motions.

Prosecution’s discovery deadline is Dec. 13 and the defense’s Jan. 10, with each required to disclose additional discovery to the other. Expert witness notices and reports are due April 13, and disclosure of witness and exhibit lists are due Aug. 10. A pretrial conference is set for Sept. 28.

The Sept. 24, 2019 grand jury indictment of Torres alleged he killed Calzada on or about Sept. 7, the day before her mother, Victoria Maestas, reported her missing. Maestas told E911 dispatchers on the evening of Sept. 8 that she was at work and that Torres, her ex-boyfriend, had just called and told her Calzada had been missing since 9:30 a.m.

Calzada did not attend her classes at Fairview Elementary the week before her death. After days of mass searching from several government agencies and scores of community members, law enforcement found her body Sept. 11 in the Rio Grande in Santa Clara Pueblo.

The Albuquerque Journal reported Maestas and Torres had been in a custody dispute and that a protection order previously filed by Maestas claimed Torres had threatened and physically hurt her in the past.

The FBI arrested Torres in Pojoaque Pueblo Oct. 27 with the assistance of the Española Police Department, according to an FBI press release. Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center officials had released him on good time for unrelated charges that morning, Center Public Information Specialist Candace Hopkins wrote in an email.

Torres pleaded not guilty at his arraignment and Judge Kirtan Khalsa opted to detain him until his trial, based on the nature of his alleged crime, prior failures to appear in court, and a criminal history including a string of DWI charges.

Grooming Gangs Whistleblower: Police Who Turned Blind Eye to Abuse Must Be Prosecuted

Senior police officers who turned a blind eye to Muslim grooming gangs as working-class white girls were pimped and raped must be prosecuted for misconduct in public office, an ex-detective who blew the whistle on abuse in Manchester has said.

“These are not mistakes — I want to make it absolutely clear — these were deliberate acts to bury and ignore the abuse of many, many vulnerable children,” said Maggie Oliver, formerly of Greater Manchester, after yet another probe into the industrial-scale abuse of young, very often underage, and predominantly white girls by gangs of “predominantly Asian men” found that the authorities had been well aware of what was going on but did little or nothing to intervene, partly for fear they would be accused of racism.

One police source even told The Telegraph that officers were actually “told to try and get other ethnicities” while the abuse was going on — such was the force’s fear of racism accusations.

“My real anger about the whole of this 15-year journey is that the report makes it very clear that we had absolutely sufficient evidence to prosecute these serial paedophiles, and for that we need accountability,” insisted Oliver.

“This was gross criminal neglect at the top echelons of Greater Manchester Police. Covering up the truth,” she added.

“For me, accountability means taking those senior officers who made these decisions in front of a court. They should be charged with misconduct in a public office.”

Chief Constable Dave Thompson, who leads West Midlands Police, was a divisional commander in Greater Manchester Police at the time of the abuse, and identified in the probe as “Chief Superintendent A”.

Thompson claims to have “no recollection” of the events the probe describes, however, and insists that while “It is clear Greater Manchester Police and Manchester City Council should have done a better job [and as] a member of the force at that time, I am very sorry we did not do a better job”, he is “very clear I would not have closed an investigation”.

Multiple probes into grooming gang abuse have now deemed that law enforcement, council services, and other authorities failed in their duties with respect to the time being, but few — if any — of those involved have faced charges, dismissal, or loss of pensions etc.

Group of 40 Cartel Gunmen Ambush Mexican Army near Texas Border

Mexican soldiers killed 11 cartel gunmen in a shootout immediately south of the Texas border. Local intelligence reports obtained by Breitbart Texas reveal the soldiers faced a group of approximately 40 attackers.

The shootout took place on Thursday afternoon within the municipality of Miguel Aleman, opposite Roma, Texas. The intelligence report said that soldiers patrolling the region encountered a group of approximately 40, who began firing. In response, the troops carried out a series of security maneuvers and killed 11 gunmen. No soldiers were hurt in the clash.

A prepared statement from the 8th Military Zone in Tamaulipas noted the attack took place at approximately 2:30 p.m. local time. The soldiers seized 11 rifles and an explosive device.

Miguel Aleman was the scene of numerous battles in recent days as members of the Cartel Del Noreste (CDN) faction of Los Zetas try to take the region from the Gulf Cartel. Numerous shootouts featured armored vehicles, .50 caliber rifles, and explosives.

The clash comes days after four soldiers drowned in an irrigation canal during a skirmish in the border city of Reynosa, immediately south of McAllen, Texas. During a chase, one Humvee rolled into water near the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge. Some of the soldiers managed to escape, but four died after getting tangled in underwater plant growth.

The Russ Building is a Neo-Gothic office tower located in the Financial District of San Francisco, California. The 133-metre (436 ft) building was completed in 1927 and had 32 floors as well as the city's first indoor parking garage. It was the tallest building in San Francisco from 1927 to 1964 and one of the most prominent, along with its 133-metre (436 ft) "twin", the PacBell Building to the south.

Upon completion, the building was iconic enough that Architect and Engineer wrote, “In nearly every large city there is one building that because of its size, beauty of architectural design and character of its use and occupancy, has come to typify the city itself ... The San Francisco Chronicle's architecture critic John King described the Russ Building as "the embodiment of Jazz Age romance, a full block of ornate Gothic-flavored masonry that ascends in jagged stages from Montgomery Street with a leap and then a scramble to a central crown". The tower is a California Historical Landmark.

Until the emergence of Sand Hill Road in the 1980s, many of the largest venture capital firms held offices in the Russ Building.

Democrats took over both chambers of the Virginia legislature in November, and as expected, they’re pushing anti-gun laws through as quickly as they can.

On Thursday, lawmakers in the state Senate passed an the first pair of bills in a wave of gun-control legislation that is set to come up for votes. One bill would restore the state’s previous one-handgun-a-month rule, while the second would allow local governments to ban guns in public buildings, parks and at permitted events — including political protests. The vote was straight party line, 21-19.

Democrats have also proposed an assault weapons ban, red flag laws and universal background checks.

Gov. Ralph “Blackface” Northam immediately banned all guns ahead of Monday’s pro-gun rally, citing “credible and serious threats.” Virginia is an “open-carry” state, meaning residents don’t even need a concealed-carry permit but can rather just wear a gun openly.

“We have no intention of calling out the National Guard,” Northam said. “We’re not going to cut off people’s electricity. We’re not going to go door to door and confiscate people’s weapons. We’re going to pass common sense legislation that will keep guns out of dangerous hands and keep Virginia safer.”

A Virginia judge on Thursday ruled that a firearms ban can remain in place during the pro-gun rally on the Capitol grounds in Richmond. Thousands are expected to attend. Gun rights advocates appealed the ruling.

“Without relief from this court, petitioners and thousands of other rally participants will be irreparably denied their right to bear arms,” the groups’ attorneys argue in their appeal.

But Viginia Attorney General Mark Herring on Friday urged the state Supreme Court to reject the appeal.

“Determined to prevent another tragedy, the Governor issued a carefully limited Executive Order. The Order does not prevent anyone from speaking, assembling, or petitioning the government. Instead, it temporarily precludes private possession of firearms in a sensitive public place during a specified time to protect public safety and safeguard the rights of all citizens to peacefully speak, assemble, and petition their government,” Herring said in a legal brief.

“The plaintiffs argued the firearms ban violates the First and Second Amendments and that Northam didn’t have the authority to impose it. According to The Associated Press, Judge Joi Taylor said in her ruling the governor has the authority under state law to take action related to the “safety and welfare” of the state. Taylor also cited rulings from the U.S. Supreme Court that the right to bear arms can be subject to limits,” CBS News reported.

With Democrats in control of both legislative chambers, Republicans can do little but complain. “Ladies and gentlemen, this is probably the first assault on the Second Amendment. And we’re going to see many after that,” said Republican Sen. Bill Stanley. He argued that the bill giving localities control over guns in public spaces would create “little pockets here and there where guns are good and guns are bad.”

LAS VEGAS – Today U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Washoe County Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force arrested Joseph George Terrone, Jr. in Reno. On December 12, 2019, the United States District Court, District of Nevada, issued a federal arrest warrant for Terrone for the charges of receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography. The charges were a result of HSI and ICAC serving a search warrant on Terrone’s computer.

“Through the collaborative efforts of local and federal law enforcement agencies, we were successfully able to track down this deviant, child exploitation predator and bring him to justice,” said Francisco Burrola, special agent in charge, Las Vegas, HSI. “This multi-agency effort epitomizes our ongoing mission here in Nevada and is a testament to the men and women who work these cases.”

Capturing the individual was a result of the Nevada USMS Fugitive Task Force which brings together the resources and expertise of state, local, and federal agencies in a coordinated effort to arrest dangerous and violent fugitives. The USMS Fugitive Task Force is comprised of Deputy U.S. Marshals, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE-ERO), Washoe County District Attorney’s Office, Division of Investigations, Nevada Division of Parole and Probation, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Nevada Department of Corrections, Office of the Inspector General (NDOC IG), Nevada DMV Compliance and Enforcement Division, Nevada Gaming and Control Board, Storey County Sheriff’s Office and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

When HSI and ICAC agents attempted to arrest Terrone at his residence it was discovered Terrone fled to evade capture. District of Nevada U.S. Marshal Gary Schofield stated, “This is a great example of local and federal agencies combining each other’s expertise and resources in bringing justice for victims.”

Targeting predators is a top priority for HSI. Nationally, in fiscal year (FY) 2019, HSI initiated 4,224 child exploitation cases resulting in 3,771 criminal arrests and identified or rescued 1,066 victims – an increase of nearly 18 percent over FY 2018.

Syrian, Russian Warplanes Wipe Out TIP Positions In Southwest Aleppo (Videos)

On January 17 morning, the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) and the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) launched wide-scale strikes on the opposition-held part of the southwestern Aleppo countryside.

According to local sources, Syrian and Russian warplanes have conducted more than 17 airstrikes on the region, so far. Most of the airstrikes targeted the area of ICARDA.

Al-Mayadeen TV said that the airstrikes targeted positions of al-Qaeda-affiliated Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP). The Chinese Uyghurs terrorist group is a close ally of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which dominates Greater Idlib.

A few minutes before the airstrikes, a rocket attack targeted the district of al-Zahra in the northwestern part of Aleppo city. The attack killed a civilian and injured at least two others.

A similar attack, carried out with Turkish-made rockets, claimed the lives of seven civilians and injured eighteen others, including children, a day earlier.

The situation around Aleppo could escalate further soon. Pro-government activists are reporting that the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is preparing to launch a ground operation in the region to secure Aleppo’s city center.

A former Commander of Naval Station Guantanamo Bay (GTMO) was convicted by a federal jury today of obstructing justice and making false statements, among other charges, in connection with the death of a civilian at the naval base.

John Nettleton, 54, of Jacksonville, Florida, was convicted of obstructing justice, concealing information, falsifying records and making false statements, all related to his actions during the Navy’s investigation of the death of Christopher M. Low Doses of Radiation from Medical Imaging Lead to Mutations in Cell Cultures

Common medical imaging procedures use low doses of radiation that are believed to be safe. A new study, however, finds that in human cell cultures, these doses create breaks that allow extra bits of DNA to integrate into the chromosome. Roland Kanaar and Alex Zelensky of Erasmus University Medical Center and Oncode Institute and colleagues report these new findings in a study published 16th January in PLOS Genetics.

Scientists have long known that exposing cells to high doses of ionizing radiation generates mutations by creating double-strand breaks that let in external segments of DNA. These extraneous fragments of DNA can occur in the nucleus, left over from natural processes, such as genomic DNA repair and viral infections. In the new study, researchers investigated whether low doses of ionizing radiation have damaging side effects by irradiating human and mouse cells grown in the lab. When they counted the cells that had taken up foreign DNA, they found that low doses of radiation, in the upper range of common diagnostic procedures, create mutations through inserted DNA even more efficiently than the much larger doses studied previously.

While the new results in cell cultures are potentially concerning, the study’s authors stress that translating radiation’s effects on lab-grown cell cultures to effects in the body is premature. Future experiments using animal models will be necessary to determine the full effects of low-dose radiation, and whether its use in medical imaging has an impact on patient health. If the same phenomenon does occur inside the body, then doctors may need to take into account levels of extraneous DNA, such those resulting from a long-term viral infection, when assessing a patient’s risk from a procedure that requires radiation.

“Most molecular radiobiological research is focused on high doses of ionizing radiation relevant to cancer treatment, while effects of physiologically relevant doses of radiation on the cell are notoriously difficult to study at the molecular level,” said author Roland Kanaar. “Our discovery that mutagenic insertion of foreign DNA into cell’s genome is remarkably responsive to doses encountered during diagnostic, rather than therapeutic, procedures provides a new simple and sensitive tool to study their consequences and revealed surprising molecular genetic details of how cells cope with natural amounts of DNA damage.”

According to the indictment, a clash began on that Friday night, Jan. 9, during a “Hail and Farewell Party,” at the Officers Club up the road from Nettleton’s house, to celebrate the arrival of a new executive officer on the Navy base and bid the man he was replacing farewell. Outside, Tur confronted Nettleton and accused him of having an extramarital affair with his wife, Lara.

The two men were separated, but Tur turned up at the captain’s house soon after and a fight ensued. The commander’s daughter heard the fight and sent a series of texts to friends, including one describing her father lying on the ground. “Um well my dad’s really drunk and some other dude is here and they’re like getting into a fight downstairs and I’m hiding,” one text message said. She described the fight as loud, and told a friend she had locked herself in her room.

According to the indictment, that was the last time Tur was seen alive. It describes a series of escalating searches for him across the base, with Nettleton briefing police and other personnel that Tur had last been seen at the club. As the searches went on, the indictment says, Nettleton repeatedly omitted the allegation of the affair, the fact that Tur had been at his house or that an altercation had occurred — including in notices to his commander at Jacksonville, Rear Adm. Mary M. Jackson.

Fed Plans Shift From Writing Rules to Watching How Banks Behave

Vice Chairman Quarles outlines changes in industry supervision

The Federal Reserve is shifting its focus from writing and revising rules aimed at limiting risk in the banking system to a concentration on how lenders interpret the restrictions, the agency’s supervision chief said Friday.

Having finished the bulk of its work on major rules, the Fed can now devote more attention to behind-the-scenes interactions between bankers and their government overseers, Vice Chairman Randal Quarles said at a meeting of industry lawyers in Washington. He said the central bank will be more transparent about its supervisory work, sharing guidance documents with Congress and seeking public comment on them as it does with new rules.

“Supervisors promote good risk management and thus help banks preemptively avert excessive risk-taking that would be costly and inefficient to correct after the fact,” Quarles said. “Where banks fall materially out of compliance with a regulatory framework or act in a manner that poses a threat to their safety and soundness, supervisors can act rapidly to address the failures.”

Financial-industry regulators appointed by President Donald Trump have overhauled restrictions put in place after the 2008 credit crisis, and they’ve blunted the sting of some strictures that Wall Street hated most. The Fed last year completed some of those items and finished a major project to tailor regulations to banks based on their size, complexity and business models.

Quarles said the new emphasis on supervision and the proposed incremental changes are meant to “increase transparency, accountability and fairness” without jeopardizing the strength of the financial system.

In another potential change, he said the Fed could also clarify how banks are added to list of complex institutions overseen by the Large Institution Supervision Coordinating Committee. That’s meaningful because those dozen lenders including JPMorgan Chase & Co., Bank of America Corp., Deutsche Bank AG and Credit Suisse Group AG are compared with their peers when evaluated by supervisors. Quarles said he wants to move the four foreign banks - Deutsche Bank, Credit Suisse, UBS Group AG and Barclays Bank Plc - to a lower category.

He also said he favors codifying the Fed’s assurances that it won’t treat guidance - such as the 2013 directives on leveraged lending - as enforceable rules.

The vice chairman said the Fed intends to be clearer with the banks about what it wants and why, opening more two-way communication with the industry. His agency has earned a reputation for opacity, rarely revealing its evaluation methods or sharing specifics about its expectations, but Quarles’ tenure has been marked by a relaxation of the secrecy around the stress tests introduced after the 2008 meltdown to ensure the banks can weather another crisis.

Quarles didn’t address the status of some pending rules. The Fed is still working with other agencies on a new proposal to govern Volcker Rule limits on banks’ investments, and it’s also completing work on significant measures dealing with bank liquidity and leverage.

9th Circuit Court Of Appeals Deals Brutal Blow To Teens Who Sued Trump Over Climate Change

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in California ruled Friday that children do not have standing to sue the Trump administration and the federal government for not adequately addressing climate change.

Climate policy comes under the purview of Congress and the president, not the court system, the U.S. Court of Appeals decided in a split decision. Attorneys for the teenagers can ask the U.S. Supreme Court to allow the trial to continue in Oregon, where it was initially filed.

“The panel reluctantly concluded that the plaintiffs’ case must be made to the political branches or to the electorate at large,” the panel of judges noted.

“The political branches might conclude—however inappropriately in the plaintiffs’ view—that economic or defense considerations called for continuation of the very programs challenged in this suit,” the court noted, citing the government’s concerns that unforeseen factors complicate such policies.

The 21 young people involved in Juliana v. United States sought a court order requiring the government to implement an “enforceable national remedial plan” phasing out carbon emissions in an effort to stabilize the climate. The case has survived several attempts by the government to torpedo the case after it was originally filed in 2015.

The U.S. Supreme Court in November 2018 decided not to block the lawsuit — the move came less than two weeks after Chief Justice John Roberts granted the government a stay in October 2018. The court’s order said the government should seek relief before the 9th Circuit.

Plaintiffs in the case asked the court to issue an injunction to prevent the government from issuing oil extraction licenses before March, when the Trump administration plans to offer nearly 80 million acres of unleased areas off the Gulf of Mexico.

President Donald Trump has made headway in recent months changing the makeup of the 9th Circuit Court. He nominated Patrick Bumatay and Lawrence VanDyke to the court in September. They would raise the number of Trump’s 9th Circuit appointees to nine.

Capital Square is not "designated or used by the Governor as an emergency shelter for the purpose of sheltering persons;"

§44-146.15 paragraph 3 literally says that the ONLY place the Governor can ban guns is IN an emergency shelter. (during a declared emergency)

Read this exemption with the whole context included (for clarification); (the verbs remain the same, ("designated or used by"):

"except to the extent necessary to ensure public safety in any place or facility "designated or used by" the Governor, ("designated or used by") any political subdivision of the Commonwealth, or ("designated or used by") any other governmental entity as an emergency shelter or for the purpose of sheltering persons;"

Northam's "Executive Order" in and of itself is a Federal Civil Rights violation. Northam knows this Virginia Law (§44-146.15 paragraph 3) specifically forbids him from limiting Gun Rights in this situation, but issues the order anyway. By doing that, he knowingly violates every Citizen in Virginia's Civil Rights under 42 U.S.C. § 1983-1985 (Deprivation of Rights) & (Conspiracy against Rights). As well as directly violating the State Statute itself. Can you say Federal Class Action Civil Rights Lawsuit, Ralph?

Monday, January 20, is Virginia Citizens Defense League’s Lobby Day. It is not VCDL’s Protest Day.

There is a distinct difference between the two.

Lobby Day is about, well, lobbying – sending a message to the General Assembly and to the Governor, Attorney General, and the Lt. Governor. That message is simple: no more gun control that in any way, shape, or form negatively affects law-abiding gun owners. Bills that go after criminals or bills that are beneficial to gun owners are fine.

While there have been some verbal threats by the Democrat leadership to push major gun control down the throats of Virginia’s gun owners and some very bad bills already filed to back up that threat, NOTHING has happened yet and won’t until after January 8th 2020. And perhaps it won’t happen at all if we press hard enough.

The second amendment sanctuary movement, with its absolutely massive turnouts of gun owners, is sending a deafening message to lawmakers ahead of Lobby Day. On top of that, we now believe the size of the crowd on Lobby Day could be absolutely incredible, possibly historic if gun owners from around the state follow through and attend as we believe they will. You will absolutely want to be a part of this!

Militias

Various militia groups from Virginia and nearby states have graciously volunteered to provide security. With a large Capitol, Richmond, and State police presence, not to mention enough citizens armed with handguns to take over a modern mid-sized country, we have the security base covered nicely. That said, we welcome our militia brothers and sisters to be part of making the day a success! Some militia groups are looking to take canned food donations during Lobby Day and deliver them to a Richmond Food Bank. Please contribute.

Long Guns

If you are asking how you can help with VCDL’s mission, carrying long guns at Lobby Day is not helpful – it is a distraction.

Virginia Citizens Defense League’s important messages inevitably get lost as the press rushes to get pictures of anyone carrying an AR or AK. The stories then become about the rifle, not Virginia Citizens Defense League’s agenda. You can set your watch by it. Long guns are not easy to carry in a crowd, either. VCDL needs its voice heard loud and clear in order to able to stop the onslaught of gun-control bills.

Laws you need to know for carry in Richmond

You can’t have a magazine in a centerfire rifle or pistol that holds more than 20 rounds unless you have a Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP). You must also have a Virginia CHP if the centerfire rifle or pistol has a threaded barrel or a folding stock. Click here to see the code section, which also covers similar restrictions on shotguns: 18.2-287.4

Open carry without a CHP is legal in Virginia, but watch the restrictions in the previous paragraph.

You need a CHP to carry in the General Assembly or Capitol Building. Once through security, you can carry openly or concealed in the buildings. You cannot carry in the gallery over the Senator Floor. Keep an eye on these alerts. Should any of this change, we will notify you here.

Virginia Citizens Defense League Lobby Day is a peaceful event about gun rights and NOTHING ELSE

We are NOT there to have arguments with the other side. They lobby, we lobby, and never the two shall meet. Just ignore them.

And we are not there to push any other agenda. Our total focus is on protecting our right to keep and bear arms. Period. This is not about flags, statues, history, etc. Just guns.

If you somehow find yourself being harassed by the other side, don’t engage them. They could well be baiting you and recording what you do for propaganda purposes. If necessary, go find a police officer and let them take care of the person causing the disturbance. Otherwise, just ignore them and go about your business.

VCDL has a great relationship with the Capitol Police, the Richmond Police, the Virginia State Police, and most other law enforcement agencies in the Commonwealth. We welcome their presence and are glad they are there to keep everything peaceful, while we work on the job at hand.

This should be a great event, with freedom-loving Americans from all walks of life standing should-to-should to protect our most precious civil right – the right of self-defense. See you there!

Huge Case in the Supreme Court today on the Electoral College!

Supreme Court to decide whether Electoral College voters have a right to differ from state popular vote

The Supreme Court will decide whether Electoral College voters have a constitutional right to cast ballots for candidates who didn’t win their state’s popular vote, the justices announced in an order on Friday.

The justices said they will hear two cases brought by Electoral College voters in Washington state and Colorado who refused to vote for Hillary Clinton in 2016 despite her wins in those states.

Like most states, Washington and Colorado require their electors to follow the will of their states voters. But those laws are now being challenged by Electoral College voters who argue that such laws are unconstitutional.

A decision in the matter is expected by the end of June, ahead of the U.S. presidential election in November. The cases are the latest in a string of high-profile disputes the top court is expected to resolve in a contentious election year.

Historically, the faithfulness of Electoral College voters has largely been a formality. In 2016, 10 out of the total 538 electors attempted to cast ballots out of line with their state’s popular vote. But attorneys on both sides of the issue urged the top court to resolve the constitutional question before a crisis emerged.

Larry Lessig, an attorney for the electors in Washington, wrote in court papers that a swing by ten electors would have been enough to alter the results in five of 58 previous presidential races.

“This case gives the Court the rare opportunity to decide a constitutional question related to presidential selection in a non-emergency setting,” he wrote.

The Washington case was brought by three presidential electors who cast their ballots for Colin Powell, the former secretary of state under President George W. Bush. The electors were each fined $1,000 under state law, which they have said in court papers appears to be the first fine of its type in American history.

The Washington Supreme Court upheld the fines in an 8-1 vote that rejected the electors’ constitutional objections, including the claim that their First Amendment rights were violated.

The Colorado case was brought by Micheal Baca, who attempted to cast his vote for John Kasich, as well as two other electors, Polly Baca and Robert Nemanich, who objected to voting for Clinton but ultimately did so after trying and failing to get a court order blocking the state law that required it.

Colorado replaced Micheal Baca with another elector who voted for Clinton before he could cast his vote.

A federal appeals court based in Denver ruled 2-1 that electors do have a right to buck the popular vote. The court reasoned that under the Twelfth Amendment, which established modern voting procedures for president and vice president, electors are “free to vote as they choose.”

A number of the top Democrats running for president, including Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., and former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, have advocated for eliminating the Electoral College.

President Donald Trump, who lost the popular vote to Clinton by 3 million votes, said in March that he used to support abolishing the Electoral College “but now realize the Electoral College is far better for the U.S.A.”

I want you to be aware of how we are being set up.

Does the Patriot Act ring a bell?

They have labeled us as potential domestic terrorist for a long time now.

They have gone out of their way since the Obama years to insure they had us labeled, but it didn't start with Obama. It started with the Patriot Act under the Bush administration.

We, as members of the General Assembly, have received none of the information you have referenced to justify these restrictions. As such, we request that your office conduct a secure briefing on the threats identified by the Virginia Fusion Center and the Unified Command for the leadership of the General Assembly at the earliest possible time."

So the threat assessment was determined by the Virginia Fusion Center. What exactly is that? A 'cooperative' group sharing threat information. However, some of the same groups helping to make the assessment will likely be engaged in being called in to enforce the 'emergency'. Seems rather - circular. "We" say there is a threat and then 'we' call each other up to put down the threat.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday rejected an offer by Oleksiy Honcharuk to resign as prime minister after an audio recording suggested the latter had criticised Zelensky's knowledge of economics.

In a video released by Zelensky’s office on Friday evening, the president said he decided to “give a chance” to Honcharuk and his cabinet, noting “now is not the time to shake the country economically and politically.”

Zelensky called the tape situation "unpleasant" but said he'd asked Honcharuk to present a report on the results of his work to parliament.

Speculation over Honcharuk’s future grew this week after a recording of a man discussing Zelensky’s purported lack of knowledge of economics was circulated on messaging channels, apparently at a meeting of the prime minister, finance minister and the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) in December.

Brazil’s Secretary of Culture Roberto Alvim was fired Friday, after being accused of paraphrasing Nazi Germany’s propaganda chief, Joseph Goebbels, in a speech on the government’s vision of the Brazilian arts.

The video, released on Thursday announcing national prizes to revitalise the arts in Brazil, quickly went viral, attracting outrage after the national daily O Globo pointed to the speech's at times word-for-word similarity to Goebbels' rhetoric.

Alvim, a born-again Christian and a theatre director appointed last year by Brazil's far-right president, Jair Bolsonaro, announced the prize as music played in the background from an opera by Wagner, Hitler’s favourite composer.

A Detroit-area Shiite imam with direct ties to Iran's leadership used a press conference last week to push disinformation and propaganda about the U.S. killing of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' (IRGC) Quds Force Gen. Qasem Soleimani.

Soleimani ran the IRGC and served as the Iranian regime's primary liaison with Islamic terrorist groups across the Middle East including Hamas, Hizballah, the Popular Mobilization Unit (PMU) militias in Iraq, the Houthis in Yemen, and the Assad regime in Syria.

Imam Mohammad Ali Elahi's regime ties were never mentioned in the Detroit News' story. Instead, Elahi, imam at the Dearborn Heights-based Islamic House of Wisdom, was presented as just another concerned cleric.

Ayatollah Khomeini reportedly appointed Elahi as head of the "ideological and political department" of the Iranian Navy in 1979 after the revolution.

Elahi wrote on the Islamic House of Wisdom's Facebook page that he was close to former Iranian President Hashemi Rafsanjani, with whom he spent time in prison under the shah. Their friendship continued after he became president of Iran, Elahi claimed.

He met with former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami during a March 2017 trip to Iran, describing a "friendly conversation" about Khatami's eight years as president and his memories of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Elahi also met with current President Hassan Rouhani in 2014 as part of a delegation of American Muslim leaders.

Morgan Stanley CEO Gorman's total 2019 pay falls 7% to $27 million

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Morgan Stanley (MS.N) said on Friday that its board lowered Chief Executive Officer James Gorman’s total compensation for 2019 to $27 million, from $29 million in 2018, according to regulatory filings.

Gorman’s compensation is comprised of four parts: a base salary of $1.5 million; a cash bonus of $6.375 million; a deferred equity award of $6.375 million; and a performance-vested equity award of $12.75 million.

The board again required that 75% of Gorman’s incentive compensation be deferred over three years subject to a claw-back, and for all of that compensation to be paid in the form of equity in the company.

A federal court tossed a global warming lawsuit by a group of indoctrinated children who believe the global warming threat is real.

They need to do some research on what these junk scientists were saying 11 years ago.

The kids wanted to sue the US government for allowing fossil fuels.

Someone needs to ship these kids to Alaska with a couple windmills and let them give it a go.

A federal appeals court on Friday threw out a lawsuit by children and young adults who claimed they had a constitutional right to be protected from climate change, in a major setback to efforts to spur the U.S. government to address the issue.

In a 2-1 decision, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said the plaintiffs, who were 8 to 19 when the lawsuit began in 2015, lacked legal standing to sue the United States.

US State Department sanctions top IRGC general for crackdown on protesters

The US Department of State imposed sanctions on Friday on a leading Iran Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps general following Iran’s crackdown on protesters, US Special Representative on Iran Brian Hook said.

“The United States is listing IRGC Brig. Gen. Hassan Shavapor under Section 7031c, visa sanctions,” Hook told reporters.

“General Shavapor committed gross violations of human rights against protesters at the press briefing. He oversaw the massacre of 148 helpless Iranians in the Mashar region last November,” he said.

His press statement came after Iran’s top leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made comments about the day Tehran hit US bases in Iraq with missiles in response to the killing of the country’s top military commander Qassem Soleimani, calling it “a day of God.”

He also said that the killing of Soleimani was a “disgrace” to the American administration and that the attack showed the “terrorist nature” of Washington.

BREAKING THIS FRIDAY MORNING– Ken Starr, Robert Ray and Democrat law professor Alan Dershowitz were selected to defend President Trump at the Senate impeachment trial starting next week.

Ken Starr is best known for leading the investigation and impeachment of President Bill Clinton.

Alan Dershowitz is a life-long Democrat attorney, author and Harvard Law Professor.

Dershowitz went public refuting the current charges against President Donald Trump.

However this afternoon Alan Dershowitz denied being a member of the Trump Impeachment Team on “The Dan Abrams Show” which airs on the SiriusXM P.O.T.U.S. Channel 124 (Weekdays 2-3pm).

Dershowitz clarified his role this afternoon.

Alan Dershowitz: I think it overstates at the, say I’m a member of the Trump team. Um, I was asked to present the constitutional argument that I would have presented had Hillary Clinton men elected and had she been impeached. I have been a critic of the overuse of impeachment, uh, for many, many years. I’ve written about it. I was of course, very critical of the impeachment of bill Clinton. And I was asked to present my constitutional argument, um, against impeachment. Uh, I will be there for, you know, one hour basically presenting my argument, but I’m not a full-fledged member of the defense team. Any realistic sense of that term?

US Navy Revives Flak Gun Concept for Shooting Down Drones

In an attempt to wrestle with the high-tech danger posed to its warships by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the US Navy has opted for a low-tech solution: bring back flak cannons.

At a naval conference earlier this week, a Northrop Grumman engineer said the defense contractor was working on an airburst round compatible with certain US Navy surface ships’ 30-millimeter deck guns that could be used to down UAVs near the vessel.

"We're looking at another round called the ‘proximity round,’ which detects the drone as it approaches and then blows up," Kevin Knowles, who works on Northrop Grumman's programs for the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) and for unmanned surface vessels, said Tuesday at the Surface Navy Association conference, Military.com reported.

"It's not a radar system, but it's something similar,” he noted. “That's what we're looking at for drones."

HHS reports 135 sexual misconduct incidents involving 'unaccompanied alien minors'

On Friday, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released details of sexual misconduct involving unaccompanied alien minors in care-provider facilities, documenting more than 100 substantiated incidents from mid-2015 through the end of 2017.

At least 135 incidents were substantiated by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), a division of the HHS, with the vast majority involving offenses by an unaccompanied child against another, the HHS report said. Between June 24, 2015, and December 31, 2017, at least 12 of those incidents were committed by "care provider" staff - a term referring to contractors, employees, foster parents, and volunteers in ORR-funded facilities, the department said.

"ORR takes allegations of sexual abuse extremely seriously, and requires extraordinarily comprehensive reporting by all its care provider programs," Caroline Thorman, a spokesperson for Administration for Children and Families (ACF), which houses the Office of Refugee Resettlement, told Fox News. ACF clarified that care provider staff doesn't include any federal employees.

According to the reports, the agency responded by referring two care-provider staff members for prosecution. Two were arrested, including one who received 10 years in prison for attempting to coerce or entice an unaccompanied child to engage in illicit sexual activity.

Court to look anew at health care law birth control rules

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court will consider allowing the Trump administration to enforce rules that allow more employers to deny insurance coverage for contraceptives to women.

The justices agreed Friday to yet another case stemming from President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul, this time about cost-free birth control. The court probably will hear arguments in April.

The high court will review an appeals court ruling that blocked the Trump administration rules because it did not follow proper procedures. The new policy on contraception, issued by the Department of Health and Human Services, would allow more categories of employers, including publicly traded companies, to opt out of providing no-cost birth control to women by claiming religious objections.

The policy also would allow some employers, though not publicly traded companies, to raise moral objections to covering contraceptives.

Even though the Trump rules remain blocked, a ruling by a federal judge in Texas in June already allows most people who object to covering contraception to avoid doing so.

“There are plenty of ways to provide people with contraceptives without forcing Catholic nuns to participate,” said Mark Rienzi, a lawyer for the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, which represents the nuns.

The city of Baltimore will formally name a courthouse after the late U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings in the first half of 2020.

Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young on Friday unveiled the renderings of the bronze plaques that will be affixed to the building's exterior. One includes an image and biography of the congressman, and the other reads “Elijah E. Cummings Courthouse.”

The powerful Democratic congressman and civil rights champion died Oct. 17 at age 68 of complications from longstanding health issues. He had represented Maryland's 7th Congressional District, which encompasses a large portion of Baltimore, since 1996.

Five Men Indicted for Operating an International Procurement Network to Export U.S.-Origin Goods to Pakistan’s Nuclear Program

Five men, all associated with the front company “Business World” in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, and including Muhammad Kamran Wali (Kamran), 41, of Pakistan; Muhammad Ahsan Wali (Ahsan), 48, and Haji Wali Muhammad Sheikh (Haji), 82, both of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada; Ashraf Khan Muhammad (Khan) of Hong Kong; and Ahmed Waheed (Waheed), 52, of Ilford, Essex, United Kingdom, were indicted in federal court for conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and the Export Control Reform Act. The grand jury returned the indictment on Oct. 16, 2019, and it was unsealed today.

“The defendants smuggled U.S. origin goods to entities that have been designated for years as threats to U.S. national security for their ties to Pakistan’s weapons programs,” said Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers. “This indictment puts the world on notice not to do business with these defendants and demonstrates our commitment to holding them accountable. It also stands as an example of the kind of deceptive behavior U.S. businesses need to watch out for in designing appropriate export control and sanctions compliance programs.”

“Federal export control laws are vital tools that help prevent items from being exported overseas where they could be used in ways that can jeopardize our national security,” said U.S. Attorney Scott W. Murray for the District of New Hampshire. “In order to protect the safety and security of the American people, we work closely with our law enforcement partners to identify those who violate these important laws. We will continue to be vigilant in our efforts to identify individuals whose actions may jeopardize the national security of the United States.”

“The alleged behavior of these five individuals presented more than a violation of U.S. export laws, it posed a potential threat to the national security interests of the United States and to the delicate balance of power among nations within the region,” said Jason Molina, Acting Special Agent in Charge, Homeland Security Investigations. “HSI’s Counterproliferation group proactively works investigations into U.S. import-export licensing laws violations because of the threat it can pose to our national security.”

“The indictments unsealed today are a result of the ongoing coordination and collaborative counter proliferation efforts by the Office of Export Enforcement, the Justice Department, the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, and Homeland Security Investigations,”said Special Agent in Charge William Higgins of the Office of Export Enforcement. “The Boston Field Office of the Office of Export Enforcement will continue to vigorously pursue violators with all its partners to stem illicit trade that threatens U.S. national security and undermines U.S. foreign policy.”

"Stopping the illegal exportation of sensitive defense technology is a top priority for the Defense Criminal Investigative Service (DCIS) and today's indictment is the result of a multi-agency effort," stated Special Agent in Charge Leigh-Alistair Barzey, DCIS Northeast Field Office. "The DCIS is committed to working with the USAO-NH, Homeland Security Investigations and the Office of Export Enforcement, to protect our nation's security by identifying, investigating and prosecuting criminal procurement networks."

According to the indictment, between September 2014 and October 2019, the defendants operated an international procurement network of front companies that existed to acquire U.S.-origin goods for the Advanced Engineering Research Organization (AERO) and the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), and to cause those goods to be exported from the United States to the entities without export licenses in violation of federals law. Both AERO and PAEC were on the Commerce Department’s Entity List, which imposes export license requirements for organizations whose activities are found to be contrary to U.S. national security or foreign policy interests. PAEC was added to the Entity List in 1998. AERO was added to the Entity List in 2014, after the U.S. Government found that it had used intermediaries and front companies to procure items for use in Pakistan’s cruise missile and strategic UAV programs.

According to the indictment, the defendants attempted to conceal the true destinations in Pakistan of the U.S.-origin goods by using the conspirators’ network of front companies as the supposed purchasers and end users of the goods and as the apparent source of payments for the goods, even though the goods were ultimately received in Pakistan and paid for by AERO or PAEC. The defendants caused the U.S. companies to file export documents that falsely identified the Ultimate Consignees of the shipments as entities other than AERO and PAEC. The defendants never applied for or obtained an export license from the Department of Commerce authorizing the export of goods to AERO or PAEC in Pakistan.

The indictment identified 38 separate exports from the U.S. that the defendants caused, involving 29 different companies from around the country. Three of those companies are in New Hampshire. None of the U.S. companies is alleged to have been complicit in the illegal exports. Each defendant is charged with two felony counts of conspiracy. Although arrest warrants are pending, none of the five defendants has thus far been apprehended.

This matter was investigated by the Department of Commerce’s Office of Export Enforcement; the Department of Defense, Office of Inspector General, Defense Criminal Investigative Service; and Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney John Davis and Trial Attorney Nicholas Hunter of DOJ’s Counterintelligence and Export Control Section, National Security Division.

The charges and allegations contained in an indictment are merely accusations. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Parnas and Fruman were arrested on October 9, 2019, at Dulles International Airport in Virginia. The two men were carrying one-way tickets to Vienna and were stopped as they prepared to board the plane.

Parnas, a U.S. citizen originally from Ukraine, is a business executive based in Florida. His company, Global Energy Producers, was listed in the indictment as an alleged vehicle through which Parnas and Fruman could make large political contributions without using their names. Prosecutors referred to this as a “straw donor scheme.” Records from the Federal Election Commission show that Global Energy Producers donated $325,000 to a pro-Trump PAC called America First Action in 2018.

Svetlana Parnas was not named in the indictment. But she manages an investment group alongside her husband that, according to court documents, actually made the donation to the PAC supporting President Trump — not Global Energy Producers.

The resumption of anti-regime protests by thousands of Iranians in Tehran and other cities in 19 provinces for four days earlier this week, made it palpably clear that subsequent to the nationwide November uprising that shook the regime to its core, the Iranian political landscape has changed forever.

The regime can no longer stem the tide that is rising fast against it. While the regime shut down the internet and imposed a total news blackout, it could not do the same this week, as the video clips showed MEK Resistance Units tearing down or torching Qassem Soleimani’s posters.

Moreover, the January protests demonstrated that what occurred in November was not a one-time occurrence and that the situation in Iran is like a powder keg, ready to explode with any incident.This was manifested in the chant of “1,500 are our martyrs from November.”
