The sheriff's department has released new photos of a man and a possible female accomplice involved in a vicious beating and robbery of an 80-year-old grandfather at a Lancaster grocery store.

LANCASTER, Calif. &ndash; The sheriff's department has released new photos of a man and a possible female accomplice involved in a vicious beating and robbery of an 80-year-old grandfather at a California grocery store.

The victim, Roberto Lopez Flores, is a grandfather of 17. The beating left him in the ICU of a local hospital with severe facial injuries and broken ribs.

Sheriff's deputies are seeking the public's help finding a suspect who viciously attacked and robbed an elderly man at a Lancaster grocery store.

The incident happened Wednesday morning at Superior Grocers around 8:30 a.m.

Roberto would always accompany his wife to the store to make sure she was safe, his family says. They were waiting in line at the checkout when he went to use the bathroom at the store.

While there, investigators say, a man attacked Roberto, repeatedly punching him and kicking him in the ribs, and then stole his wallet before fleeing on foot. His family says Lopez probably didn't have much more than $20 cash on him at the time.

Detectives described the suspect as a male, about 20-25 years old, standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 250 pounds. He was last seen wearing a light T-shirt and shorts.

New photos also show him wearing sandals and socks and a black mask with teeth painted on the front.

Investigators also say he was accompanied by a woman and her photo was also released.

The victim's family is pleading for the public's help. They can't visit him in the hospital because of rules connected to the coronavirus pandemic.

"I just don't understand how someone can brutally hurt an old man," said Cecilia Ramirez, the victim's daughter. "My dad's 80 years old. He doesn't hurt anybody."

Officials are asking anyone who may have been in the area of Superior Grocers, 1010 East Avenue J around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and saw a person matching the photos to contact Lancaster detectives at (661)948-8466.

"If you see something, hear something or have any information, please help us bring justice for this victim," the sheriff's department said.

The co-founders of Wayfair, the online furniture retailer, have a history that makes for a sweet company backstory. Steve Conine and Niraj Shah met in high school in New Jersey and were magically reunited in college, finding themselves in the same dorm as freshmen at Cornell University. They failed at several joint projects before building Wayfair in 2002. Now they’re billionaires.

For the past 24 hours, however, they’ve also been vilified on social media. Workers at the Boston-based firm have gone public with a petition signed by more than 500 Wayfair employees after they learned that Wayfair had sold $200,000 worth of mattresses and bunk beds to a charity that furnishes a detention camp for migrant children at the Texas border. The employees asked the company to cut off ties to that charity and donate profits made from the sales to RAICES, a Texas nonprofit that works for refugees and immigrant rights. They also called for a walkout at the company’s headquarters today.

So far, the company has told employees in a letter posted online and published by the Boston Globe that it will not donate the profits or end its relationship with the contractor, Baptist Children’s Family Services. (Quartz at Work contacted Wayfair and will update this post with any response.)

Dismissing its employees’ concerns would be out of character for Wayfair’s leadership. Shah, the CEO, is also chair of an eponymous foundation dedicated to child health and education. The Shah Foundation’s goal, according to its website, is to “support innovative, transformative work in education, healthcare and community.”

“We believe healthy, nourished, engaged children make better students,” the website also states.

Last year, the foundation—where Nirah’s wife, Jill, is president—pledged to pay for 50% of a $3 million program to build “My Way Cafe” kitchens serving fresh food inside several public schools in Boston.

On the foundation’s website, both Shahs respond to the cute prompt “If I could wave a magic wand” in their bios.

Critics would argue that Wayfair’s chief executive has a curious sense of what enlightened means. (Quartz at Work has also contacted the Shah Foundation for comment.) Reports revealed this week that at one border camp for separated children “flu and lice outbreaks were going untreated, and children were filthy, sleeping on cold floors, and taking care of one another because of the lack of attention from guards.”

On Twitter, some comments have supported Wayfair, arguing that the firm was assisting people already in a tough situation by supplying comfortable furnishings. However, the majority of statements—including one from senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, a Democratic presidential hopeful—say profiting from the crisis or supporting its governmental players is morally unjustifiable. She voiced her support for the employee activists on Twitter:

In 2017, Conine and Shah made a political statement of their own, quietly removing Trump Home products for sale on the Wayfair site. Not acceding to the workers’ demands in this conflict would fly in the face of the Shah Foundation’s mission and Conine’s professed theory of management, as he once explained it in an interview with Boston Magazine:

You have to tell your employees that they are valuable every single day, even if it seems redundant. Why is the media so fixated on Sweden’s coronavirus policy? What difference does it make?

Sweden settled on a policy that they thought was both sustainable and would save as many lives as possible. They weren’t trying to ‘show anyone up’ or ‘prove how smart they were’. They simply took a more traditionalist approach that avoided a full-scale lockdown. That’s all.

But that’s the problem, isn’t it? And that’s why Sweden has been so harshly criticized in the media, because they refused to do what everyone else was doing. They refused to adopt a policy that elites now universally support, a policy that scares people into cowering submission. The Swedish model is a threat to that approach because it allows people to maintain their personal freedom even in the midst of a global pandemic. Ruling class elites don’t want that, that is not in their interests. What they want is for the people to meekly accept the rules and conditions that lead to their eventual enslavement. That’s the real objective, complete social control, saving lives has nothing to do with it. Sweden opposed that approach which is why Sweden has to be destroyed. It’s that simple.....

Wayfair does not have their own delivery trucks they have to rely on other companies to ship for them. Who are those companies?

Looking into distribution channel of Wayfair, wondering how deliveries are made and where they are made from, much of the information on their site requires a membership sign up now, but did manage to find job listings for warehouses to get an idea of where these items ship from and what companies deliver for them. POTUS a few months ago did an appreciation event for truckers during the early days of COVID 19, when he handed keys to several different shipping companies, FEDX, DHS, etc.

Wayfair does not have in house delivery system they subcontract deliveries to other companies.

Here are the posted Wayfair warehouse job openings and their delivery policies. Which is quite interesting considering the Keys. Are the Keys the delivery system for these trafficked individuals/kids.

Pic#1 related. Picked up a couple of Auxiliary craft coming out of Gitmo harbor. These vessels came from the US base side, so whoever is coming in is not heading through Guantanamo Bay to the Cuban port in the interior north of the Bay.

Also had a couple of pings on a cargo ship that is in the immediate vicinity. There is also a tanker in the area, however it has passed the Bay already and heading away, so I don’t believe it’s in play.

Yachts

Pics #2, 3 and 4 related. #2 is a data sheet on a mysterious yacht known as BYTE THE WORLD 1. Confirm that it’s the same yacht as the “Byte the World” yacht picked up about 2 weeks or so ago near Barcelona, Spain in the Med, b/c it has the same MMSI# 319888608. It doesn’t register at all on vesselfinder and only a little bit of the time on marinetraffic.

Note the length of the yacht, 56 meters – this is “superyacht” territory. Almost zero info on this boat. However, lucked out and hit on it anchored near Gustavia harbor, St. Barts (about 10nm SE of St. Maarten in the Leeward Islands, if you’re lookin’). That’s pic #3.

You may recall, there is a new yacht added to the Yacht Watch List under observation recently, the ARTEFACT, in the same area. ARTEFACT has now shifted to an anchorage at Ile Fourchue, a small island between St. Maarten and St. Barts., about 7nm NW of Gustavia harbor. So ARTEFACT and BYTE THE WORLD 1 are very much in the same hood…

Venezuela

Pic#5 is the DELTA KANARIS, a Liberian-flagged tanker heading due north out of the Jose Terminal at Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela. The pic of this track is 6 hours old, but a check using the MMSI# shows a 45-minute old track where the tanker turned NE to a heading of about 045 at 13kts, and it shows her heading to the Med. Nothing else that I can detect of interest on the Venezuelan coast.

No further info to report at this time.

Safe sex during the coronavirus pandemic might soon require protection beyond just the nether regions.

A new study from researchers at Harvard University says that hooking up carries some risk for transmitting COVID-19 from one partner to the other and recommends — among other practices — wearing a face mask while doin’ it.

The research, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, ranked frisky situations based on how likely it is to catch coronavirus while in the act. Researchers recommend wearing a mask for the riskiest sexual scenario: sex with people other than those with whom one is quarantined.

If you have an out-of-house coronavirus crush, the study says, besides keeping your mask on, you should avoid kissing, any oral-to-anal act and anything else that involves semen or urine. Shower before and after, and clean the space with alcohol wipes or soap.

Here is a $36K ceiling fan. The description says it's bladeless, when the picture clearly shows bladed. If I were selling a $36,000 fan, I'd get the description right.

Next, it says the country of origin is USA. There are no ceiling fans made in the USA any more, and especially would not be made here by a boutique store.

Finally, the name of the fan just happens to be the first name of a missing girl who was located just two months ago.

The Texas Medical Center in Houston includes a number of large healthcare facilities who independently posts covid infection data.

Thought I'd take a look, since Texas Governor Gregg Abbott as well as Harris County Judge and City of Houston Mayor have all been loud regarding their concerns about covid. The Mayor had the Texas Republican Convention planned in Houston next week cancelled and Abbott is talking about having to "close down the State if this continues."

So a quick review of the data shows that the increase apparently occurs after the June 9th George Floyd funeral and related demonstrations (which the Mayor attended).

Seems like an initial cluster of cases occurred within days of the funeral with increasing separate clusters of cases either secondary to the original cluster or in individuals with a longer incubation period possibly based on degree of exposure, immunity of the individuals or other factors. It would seem contact-tracing of those individuals who attended the George Floyd demonstrations/funeral could be helpful to limit this apparent growing problem...

South China Sea and nearby Pacific

Short report, there isn’t much to see...except there are a lot more tracks on “Mil/SAR” vessels showing up than what is typically seen in the South China Sea. The SCS OPAREA usually shows only 1/3 of the number of tracks it has on scope right now. Having to post several screencaps of the area, from north to south, to get all of the tracks shown. The “Mil/Sar” vessels are shown in red.

Most of those tracks are sitting on top of the disputed islands that the ChiComs have moved onto, to try and take by force and just make everyone live with it (Paracels, Spratlys, Scarborough Shoals, etc.), so my money is that this is a show of force by the Chins due to having 2 US nuclear carriers in the immediate vicinity. Wherever they happen to be, I have no idea; however, there are a few interesting “unknowns” clustered together south of Taiwan at the entrance to the SCS OPAREA. The southernmost cluster seems the least likely, but with all the merchant shipping around, it would make the ChiComs think long and hard before flipping a vampire (USN term for a badguy air-to-surface missile) at our ships.

No further info to report at this time.

The FBI continues to defer and decline to provide documents requested in a FOIA request on Seth Rich’s Brother and on DOJ Attorney who claimed publicly to have discussed the Seth Rich case with the Mueller gang.

This story started with the release of emails by WikiLeaks related to the DNC and Hillary’s Campaign Manager creepy John Podesta.

In June 2016, Ellen Nakashima, a Deep State favorite from the Washington Post, released a report that the Democrat National Committee (DNC) had been hacked by Russia. The firm that validated this was Crowdstrike and its President Shawn Henry confirmed the claims. In December 2016, Ms. Nakashima followed up her reporting with the outlandish claim that the CIA had determined that Russia hacked the DNC because Russia wanted Trump to win the election. Nakashima also reported that the the Intel Community had determined that Russia also sent the emails to WikiLeaks. This position was reinforced by the Mueller gang in their efforts to have President Trump removed from office.

WikiLeaks did release DNC emails related to John Podesta, Hillary Clinton’s Campaign Manager, in the months before the 2016 Presidential election which showed massive corruption combined with an elitist attitude from members of the Hillary Clinton team – all willing to do whatever it took to win the election.

The Trump – Russia sounded fraudulent from the start and even preposterous.

On March 8, 2020 and before on June 16, 2019, we presented arguments against the Mueller gang’s assertion that the DNC was hacked by Russians.

After several years of investigative reporting we now know there is no evidence Russia hacked the DNC and sent the hacked emails to WikiLeaks.

Attorney Ty Clevenger asserts the DNI has been covering up for 4 years the fact that they have communications between Seth Rich and WikiLeaks. The FBI also is refusing to provide documents related to the case.

A sensational New York Times report which alleged that Russia paid the Taliban to target US forces in Afghanistan was pure fabrication, Donald Trump has claimed after the Pentagon and intel agencies dismissed the story.

The claim that Moscow had placed bounties on US and coalition troops operating in Afghanistan, first reported by the Times last month, has been widely discredited by senior military and intelligence officials. Defense Secretary Mark Esper testified earlier this week that "all the defense intelligence agencies have been unable to corroborate that report.”

Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman General Mark Milley echoed his assessment, telling the House Armed Services Committee that there was no evidence to support the theory that Moscow offered cash rewards to the Taliban.

Responding to their testimony, the US president accused the Times of publishing “another phony hit job” without a real source.

In several subsequent pieces, the Times and other outlets have labored to give the unverified story an air of credibility – always relying on unnamed sources.

Earlier in July, General Kenneth McKenzie, who oversees military operations in the Middle East and Central Asia as the head of US Central Command, said the bounty theory has yet to be substantiated. There are similar misgivings in the intelligence community. An assessment by the National Intelligence Council (NIC) stated that the CIA and the National Counterterrorism Center had “medium confidence” in the reports, while the National Security Agency (NSA) and other spy agencies expressed “lower confidence.”

Pizzagate 2.0? Wayfair forced to deny bizarre rumors its ‘overpriced cabinets’ are child trafficking front

Furniture marketplace Wayfair was forced to address accusations of sex trafficking after an elaborate Pizzagate-esque conspiracy drawing connections between the names of ‘overpriced’ items and ‘missing children’ went viral.

The speculation was apparently kicked off on Reddit with user PrincessPeach1987 posting a screenshot of the furniture seller’s WFX Utility cabinet collection to the site’s r/conspiracy forum that highlighted the sky-high prices (between $12,699.99 and $14,499.99 for a single cabinet) and the odd names – like Samiyah, Alyvia, Yaritza, and Neriah – which allegedly matched the names of missing children.

“Is it possible Wayfair involved in Human trafficking with their WFX Utility collection? Or are these just extremely overpriced cabinets?” she asked. Amateur sleuths combing Wayfair’s site immediately found oddities well beyond the cabinets section, including absurdly-priced throw pillows and “one of a kind” rugs that also appeared to share the names of missing children.

The rumors quickly spiraled out of control on social media, with some confused users claiming Wayfair was actually shipping trafficked children inside the pricey cabinets – something absent from the original posting – while others suggested plugging the SKU numbers of the suspect merchandise into a search engine would turn up photos of the child “for sale” under a particular product name. Still others observed Wayfair had started scrubbing its site of the “incriminating” material – surely an admission of guilt!

Despite a lack of any factual proof behind the disturbing allegations, the story got so much attention that Wayfair issued a statement denying them. A site spokeswoman told Fox Business the company had “temporarily removed the products” in order to “rename them and to provide a more in-depth description and photos” to justify the high prices. “There is, of course, no truth to these claims,” the statement read, calling the items “accurately-priced” and citing their “industrial grade” as the reason for the high dollar amounts.

Similar “utility-grade” cabinets to those sold on Wayfair’s site retail for under $1,000, and while a few users ventured that the absurd prices were in lieu of listing the items as “out of stock,” others pushed back against that explanation.

Unsurprisingly, the company’s denials only fueled further speculation, as pedo-hunters demanded to know why Wayfair was changing product names and memory-holing the “evidence,” while others merely rolled their eyes at the idea of taking the site’s word on whether or not it was trafficking children.

The furniture retailer has come under fire before, facing a boycott and an employee walkout over selling beds to the Trump administration’s immigrant detention centers. However, the latest round of allegations makes Pizzagate –the claim that leaked emails from failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign contained coded references to pedophilia – look positively pedestrian. With deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged madam Ghislaine Maxwell arrested just last month, however, it’s easy to see why child trafficking might be on people’s minds.

I think it is difficult for Americans to understand that they are, to use an epidemiological term, completely fucked. COVID-19 could have been managed in January, or February, or even now, but not a full year later, in January 2021. Given than you need a functioning government to manage this pandemic, that’s the soonest Americans can get one.

It’s far too late.

The most reliable projections are saying 200,000 dead and 50 million infected by election day in November. Even these projections struggle to account for completely irrational federal actions like denigrating masks, pushing to reopen early, and pushing students back into schools. This is not the absence of public health, this is its opposite.

It is, in effect, governance by COVID-19. Not a failed state. A plague state....

SAO PAULO (AP) - Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro announced on Friday his second pick to head the education ministry in 11 days, naming a college professor and church pastor to the post.

Milton Ribeiro, a former deputy dean of Mackenzie University in Sao Paulo who preaches at a Presbyterian church in Santos outside the metropolis, will be in charge of one of the government’s most desired jobs.

Religious groups supporting the president say the education ministry is key to boosting Christian values in Brazil and casting aside what they contend is leftist influence in the schools.

The collapse of the New York Times’ “Russian bounties” campaign

Less than two weeks after it kicked off a media frenzy with its front-page report claiming that the Russian military intelligence agency GRU had paid bounties to Taliban fighters in Afghanistan to kill American soldiers, the New York Times published an editorial effectively conceding that there was no factual basis for its reporting.

The editorial appeared on Wednesday, July 8, one day after General Frank McKenzie, the commander of Centcom, with overall responsibility for Afghanistan and the Middle East, told the press that there was no evidence that any US soldiers had been killed because of the alleged Russian bounties.

“I didn’t find that there was a causative link there,” McKenzie said, “the intel case wasn’t proved to me.” In any case, he continued, no additional precautions were required because the US military already takes “extreme force protection measures” in Afghanistan “whether the Russians are paying the Taliban or not.”

McKenzie was speaking Tuesday by telephone to a group of reporters including the Associated Press, which ran a report. The Times did not report his comments, which diametrically contradicted the newspaper’s own reporting of June 27.

But that night, the newspaper’s editorial page threw in the towel, publishing an editorial on the Times web site which appeared the next morning in the print edition, under the headline, “Don’t Let Russian Meddling Derail Afghanistan Withdrawal Plans.”

The editorial begins with the admission: “There’s a lot still missing from the reports that Russia paid for attacks on American and other coalition forces in Afghanistan. That’s why it’s critical that emotions and politics be kept at bay until the facts are in.”

This appeal for waiting “until the facts are in” is remarkable since the Times itself had claimed to be in possession of the facts about alleged Russian efforts to murder American soldiers, citing unnamed “intelligence officials,” and it gave the signal for a vast media campaign aimed at whipping up a very specific “emotion,” hatred of Russia.

A Virginia state review board has unanimously approved removing a statue of Robert E. Lee from downtown Richmond.

The left has been on a mission to tear down statues and monuments by holding historic figures to modern “woke” standards.

The Hill reports that “the plan still hinges on a court’s review of Gov. Ralph Northam’s (D) power to remove the monument, though aides to Northam have said he’s determined to remove the statue.”

“The governor is committed to the removal of this statue,” Joe Damico, director of the Virginia Department of General Services, told the Art and Architectural Review Board on Friday. “From my perspective, as soon as the lawsuit is settled and the way is clear, we will work very quickly to remove the statue from the pedestal.”

Trump confirms 2018 US cyberattack against Russia

President Donald Trump on Friday confirmed for the first time that the United States launched a cyberattack against the Russian Internet Research Agency in 2018.

The IRA, a Russian company that deploys online trolls for influence operations, was blamed by U.S. officials for meddling in both the 2016 presidential election and the 2018 midterms.

Trump confirmed the attack during a two-part interview with Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen. When asked whether the U.S. had launched an attack on the IRA, Trump responded “correct.”

The Washington Post in 2019 reported on the attack, which blocked the IRA’s internet access, but Trump had not previously confirmed U.S. involvement.

As the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Maricopa County climbed to new highs late this week, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego appeared on MSNBC Friday morning for an interview with Chuck Todd and Katy Tur to discuss the situation in the state, which has moved to close bars, and rollback other reopening measures to combat the outbreak.

During the interview, Gallego claimed that the county's public health agency had just put in an order for refrigerated trucks because they were running out of space in the morgue.

"Maricopa County, which is our county public health agency, just announced that they're going to be getting refrigerated trucks because the Abrazo health care system has run out of morgue beds," Gallego said.

Hours later, as the mayor's comments started proliferated through the media, representatives for the hospital system called and complained that the mayor's comment wasn't true, despite the fact that she made the claim - seemingly with a high degree of certainty - on a popular cable new show.

Spokesman Keith Jones told azcentral.com that Abrazo hospitals have "adequate morgue space."

Here's the story: Phoenix and the rest of the state have been asked to implement their emergency plans to prepare for possible COVID-19 overloads.

Part of the plan, Jones said, was to proactively make sure there would be enough morgue space. So the hospital system ordered refrigerated storage weeks ago, but they have yet to be deployed.

"At this point, it is not needed," Jones said.

Of course, it's not difficult to imagine why Gallego made such a specious - and, some might argue, alarmist - claim: Democrats in the state believe they need to discredit Gov Doug Ducey's COVID-19 response if they want to succeed in flipping John McCain's old Senate seat, currently occupied by Republican Senator Martha McSally, on Nov. 3. The special election is being held to find a permanent successor to the former presidential candidate and longtime Republican Senator.

The unnamed FBI “Supervisory Intelligence Analyst” cited by the Justice Department's watchdog for failing to properly vet the so-called Steele dossier before it was used to justify spying on the Trump campaign teaches a class on the ethics of spying at a small Washington-area college, records show.

The senior FBI analyst, Brian J. Auten, has taught the course at Patrick Henry College since 2010, including the 11-month period in 2016 and 2017 when he and a counterintelligence team at FBI headquarters electronically monitored an adviser to the Trump campaign based on false rumors from the dossier and forged evidence.

Auten, identified by congressional sources who spoke on condition of anonymity, never confirmed the most explosive allegations in the dossier compiled by ex-British intelligence officer Christopher Steele, cutting a number of corners in the verification process, Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz pointed out in his December report on FBI abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

By January 2017, the lead analyst had ample evidence the dossier was bogus. Auten could not get sources who provided information to Steele to support the dossier’s allegations during interviews. And collections from the wiretaps of Trump aide Carter Page failed to reveal any confirmation of the claims. Auten even came across exculpatory evidence indicating Page was not the Russian asset the dossier alleged, but was in fact a CIA asset helping the U.S. spy on Moscow.

Ghislaine Maxwell is seeking release on $5million bail, claiming she is 'not Jeffrey Epstein', hadn't contacted the pedophile for more than a decade before he killed himself and is the victim of a smear campaign by the press.

Lawyers for Maxwell, 58, argued Friday for her release as Epstein's former girlfriend and close associate 'vigorously denies' all charges brought against her.

Her request, filed in the US District Court in Manhattan, claims she was not 'hiding' from authorities, has not left the US once since Epstein's 2019 arrest and is not a flight risk.

It also argues she is at risk of contracting COVID-19 if she continues to be held in the Brooklyn jail.

The filing comes eight days after authorities swooped on her luxury home in New Hampshire, where prosecutors say she was hiding out, and charged her with luring underage girls so Epstein could sexually abuse them.

Maxwell's lawyers put forward their proposal for her to be released on $5 million bail Friday, secured against property in the UK that is valued at $3.75 million.

They claim in the filing that Maxwell had not been in contact with the pedophile for more than 10 years before his apparent suicide.

These claims come despite filings in a separate lawsuit brought by one of Epstein's accusers which show evidence of Maxwell and Epstein emailing each other as recently as 2015.

Justin Trudeau Breaks Canadian Law AGAIN In Alleged Pay-For-Play Non Profit Scandal

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has stepped in it again. He’s apparently violated Canadian ethics laws by awarding a $900 Million government contract to a “non-profit” that members of his family have raked in $282,000 from via speaking fees.

The $900 Million contract was awarded to the WE Charity to dole out $5000 checks to youth who put in 500 hours of “volunteer” work over the summer, due to Covid preventing them from getting normal jobs. WE Charity was due to graciously accept $19.5 Million into their pockets for the deed.

Trudeau initially claimed that the WE Charity was the only entity capable of executing this task, as the CBC reported in June:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said today the WE Charity is the only organization capable of administering more than $900 million in grants for students this summer.

Speaking to reporters during a COVID-19 briefing, Trudeau said federal public servants identified WE as the organization with the best nationwide network for connecting young people to paid volunteer positions this summer.

WE will administer the Canada Student Service Grant, which will provide eligible students with up to $5,000 to support the costs of post-secondary education in the fall. The amount of each grant will depend on the amount of time the recipient devotes to volunteer work.

Then people actually did some digging around. The Star reports of the Trudeau family ties to the WE Charity:

Trudeau is facing his third ethics investigation as prime minister for his government’s decision to sole-source the delivery of a $900-million volunteering grant program to WE Charity.

The prime minister has said that both he and his family had “voluntarily” worked with WE in the past and they intend to continue that work. But WE confirmed that members of Trudeau’s family, including his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, have received financial compensation for speaking at WE-hosted events.

The existence of financial payments between WE and the Trudeau family was first reported by Canadaland and CBC News on Thursday.

Margaret Trudeau, the prime minister’s mother, received $250,000 in honorariums for speaking at 28 WE-hosted events between 2016 and 2020. Alexandre Trudeau, the prime minister’s brother, received $32,000 in speaking fees between 2017 and 2018.

WE said both were booked for the events through Speakers’ Spotlight, a company that connects notable speakers to corporate and charity event organizers. The company once featured Justin Trudeau, before his acceptance of paid speaking gigs as an MP set off a minor scandal. The payments were supposed to be from ME to WE Social Enterprise, WE’s for-profit corporation, not the charity itself.

Grégoire Trudeau, an “ambassador and ally” to WE who also hosts a podcast for the charity, was given a one-time honorarium of $1,400 for speaking at a WE event in 2012.

Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet said Trudeau should step aside and allow Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland to govern until the ethics investigation is complete.

The Liberal government announced on June 25 that it would outsource the management of a $900-million grant program for student volunteers during the coronavirus pandemic to WE, a global charity co-founded by brothers Marc and Craig Kielburger. WE would receive $19.5 million in payments to manage the program.

The ties between WE and the Trudeau family are now the subject of a conflict of interest investigation by Canada’s ethics commissioner.

Facebook is known for being creepy – to say the least. They recently admitted to wrongly sharing user data with 3rd party apps AGAIN. A lawsuit has also been filed against the company and others for “Endangering Humanity with the misuse of Artificial Intelligence, Complicity and Aiding in Physical Genocide inside of China by transferring AI Technology, Engaging in Cultural Genocide of Humanity, & Controlling and programming the Human Race by Social Engineering via AI coding and AI algorithmic biometric manipulation.”

Social media giant Facebook continues to ramp up the creepy factor. According to a recently filed patent, Facebook wants to spy on you by hiding inaudible messages in TV ads.

Facebook has filed a patent for a system that hides audio clips in TV commercials. These sounds would be so high-pitched that they are inaudible to human beings. They would then trigger your phone to record all the background noises in your home. The patent application is called “broadcast content view analysis based on ambient audio recording.”

According to The Daily Mail, these secret messages would force your phone to record the audio of the private conversations you have without you even knowing. According to a patent application by the social media platform, clips taken of your background conversations and your movements across a room would help advertisers determine whether or not you are watching their promotions.

According to the patent, originally discovered by Metro, the system would use “a non-human hearable digital sound” to activate your phone’s microphone. This noise, which could be a sound so high-pitched that humans cannot hear it, would contain a “machine recognizable” set of Morse code-style beeps. Once your phone “hears” or recognizes the trigger, it would begin to record the “ambient noise” in the home, such as the sound of your air conditioning unit, plumbing noises from your pipes, and even your movements from one room to another. Your phone would even listen in on “distant human speech” and “creaks from thermal contraction”, according to the patent.

The deep state Republicans are against Trumpism as much as they are against President Trump.

The deep state Republicans are alive and well and doing what you’d expect them to be doing. They are living proof that President Donald Trump is a genuine change agent. The world he is changing is their world, and they hate him for it.

In the near future, these deep state Republicans will drop the pretense of still belonging to the Party of Abraham Lincoln and become Democrats. These are, after all, people who have grown deeply uncomfortable not just with President Trump but also with those Republicans (the vast majority) who are comfortable with President Trump (about 88 percent of the GOP). This is why they are now running ads against pro-Trump Republican Senators as well as against President Trump himself.

They find the prospect of a Biden-Pelosi-Schumer machine running America more acceptable than the possibility of a Trump-McConnell-McCarthy team being in charge of Washington.

The deep state Republicans are against Trumpism as much as they are against President Trump.

In a real sense, the revolt of the anti-Trump Republicans is further proof of just how different and disruptive the Trump candidacy and the Trump presidency have been.

Most of the anti-Trump Republicans come from elite schools and built their careers around being part of the elite. They valued the professorial intellectual approach. They believed in leaders relying on staff work because they had usually been the staff. Antony Jay’s "Yes, Minister" and "Yes, Prime Minister" could have been written about them. In many ways, they found President Barack Obama’s professorial style comforting. They might have disagreed on policy, but they could agree on style.

The Trump candidacy was an enormous, rude shock to the deep state Republicans.

These were people who knew how to play the game. They moved effortlessly from policy jobs in the bureaucracy to think tanks, where they wrote about their policies for law firms and lobbyists. They would go on television or be interviewed in newspapers where they talked about their own policies.

The deep state Republicans worked with and socialized with deep state Democrats. They were much more comfortable with deep state Democrats than with most Republicans. They could have bipartisan cocktail parties in Georgetown and nice dinners at elegant restaurants. They often went to the same vacation towns and enjoyed the same beaches and hobbies.

House Blunders to Blame for Dems’ Setback in Trump Subpoena Case

Just a few minutes into Supreme Court arguments over congressional subpoenas for President Donald Trump's financial records, it was clear that House Democrats were in trouble.

The House had argued that it has far-reaching subpoena powers and can compel disclosure of documents related to any legislation it's considering. Chief Justice John Roberts was not so sure. Congress can consider legislation on any number of subjects, and Roberts pressed House lawyer Doug Letter for just one example of information beyond the reach of a congressional subpoena under the House's proposed theory.

"Your test is really not much of a test," Roberts told Letter, adding that the House's approach would unduly weaken the presidency.

Justice Samuel Alito delivered the body blow a few minutes later, pointedly reminding Letter he could not give "even one example of a subpoena that would not be pertinent to some conceivable legislative purpose."

"That's correct," Letter replied. "Because this Court itself has said Congress's power to legislate is extremely broad."

It was a startling moment—advocates always have a limiting principle in their back pocket when arguing before the Court—and the chief justice made Letter pay for it in Thursday's decision.

"Any personal paper possessed by a president could potentially ‘relate to' a conceivable subject of legislation," Roberts wrote in the majority opinion. "Indeed, at argument, the House was unable to identify any type of information that lacks some relation to potential legislation."

Letter's audacious legal strategy fell flat before the nation's highest judicial tribunal. When the decision in Trump v. Mazars came down Thursday, not a single justice voted in the House's favor. Instead, the Court awarded Trump a short-term tactical victory that gives future presidents a boost when congressional investigators come looking for their personal papers. It was an outcome that might have been avoided had the House tempered its claims.

U.S. Forces Stopped At Three Syrian Army Checkpoints In Northern Al-Hasakah

On July 11, checkpoints of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) stopped several U.S. military vehicles in three different villages in the northern al-Hasakah countryside.

The Syrian News Agency said the U.S. vehicles were intercepted by Syrian troops in al-Sybat, Tell Shamiran and Mansaf Tahtani. The vehicles withdrew to their bases after failing to enter the villages.

Several similar incidents took place in northern al-Hasakah recently. A day earlier, army service members intercepted a U.S. convoy consisting of three vehicles in Mansaf Tahtani. Prior to that, a U.S. convoy was stopped next to the town of Tell Tamr.

So far, U.S. forces have not attempted to use force against the SAA and local pro-government fighters. In most cases, Syrian and American service members exchange slurs and threats. These incidents always end up with U.S. forces retreating.

U.S. forces can’t move freely in northern al-Hasakah anymore, especially around tell Tamr and al-Qamishli. The SAA’s influence in the region is without a doubt growing. Damascus is restoring its relations with the locals there with much success.

5 killed after gunmen attack Johannesburg Church

Five people were killed in a Church attack west of Johannesburg in the early hours of Saturday, with some of the attackers taking hostages who were later freed.

Police arrested around 30 people and seized 40 firearms, including rifles, shotguns and handguns, related to the attack on the International Pentecost Holiness Church in Zuurbekom, police spokesman Vishnu Naidoo said.

One potential motive for the attack is a power struggle at the church between rival factions, local media claimed.

“(E)verything was in complete disarray, so we have arrested all those that we reasonably believe are suspects, we are busy interviewing and interrogating them to establish exactly what the motive was,” Naidoo added.

The full text of Hong Kong’s controversial new national security law came out late at night on June 30, the day it was enacted. Lawyers and legal scholars were quick to dissect the text and offer their analysis. In those early hours, one feature of the legislation stood out.

Its 38th article seems to give the national security law (NSL) boundless reach. The text states that the NSL, in addition to covering anyone in Hong Kong, regardless of nationality or residency status, also applies to offenses committed against Hong Kong “from outside the Region by a person who is not a permanent resident of the Region.”

“The scope of the law exceeds the wildest of expectations,” said Cora Chan, associate professor of law at the University of Hong Kong.

Terry Gray, 52, was arrested on Friday by Metropolitan Police Department sex crimes detectives, the department said in a news release Saturday.

A Florida woman took a dishwashing job at her husband’s nursing home after the coronavirus pandemic kept them apart for 114 days.

Mary Daniel’s husband, Steve, has been living at Rosecastle Assisted Living and Memory Care facility in Jacksonville since he was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s.

Before the pandemic, Mary would visit her husband every night and help him prepare for bed. She couldn’t live with him, but it was what she could do to stay connected to him.

“I put him in a memory care center and everything was going really, really well,” Mary told CBS News. “He was thriving with all the people, and in March, obviously everything changed.”

When the coronavirus spread across the state, Gov. Ron DeSantis banned visitations to nursing homes to protect patients and prevent the spread among a vulnerable population. Mary sent “at least a hundred” messages to DeSantis asking for permission to visit her husband, and appeared on local news to tell her story.

“We tried a window visit,” Mary told First Coast News. She would visit twice a week and stand outside his window. “He just cried. You can’t explain it to him.”

Mary appealed to Rosecastle, offering to bring a therapy dog or volunteer in another way, but the facility wasn’t sure how long the pandemic might last. Then, out of the blue, the corporate office reached out to Mary and offered her a job as a dishwasher.

Earlier today I posted a call for a dig on the coin shortage, Kroger, their charity Zero Hunger Zero Waste, and their donation facilitator OneCause.

I seems to me that these “checkout charities” are a perfect money funneling system for nefarious groups, especially in light of the opportunity to coerce consumers into donating because of the coin shortage. According to The Non Profit Report, OneCause helped raise 720 million dollars last year. That’s a lot of money and there’s not much info on where it goes.

OneCause costs around $100 a month for a business to utilize.

Turns out there is a similar charity called Get Lively that was founded by Jonathan Soros, George Soros’ son.

How's this for crazy timing?

Jill Shah had just sold her Back Bay startup, Jill's List, on April 15th. The money had just hit her bank account. She hadn't even had a chance to tell her seven employees about the sale yet when she heard two explosions nearby; Shah's company is located on Boylston Street, in between where the first and second bombs went off on Marathon Monday.

Shah's two kids had come into the office with their nanny to have lunch with her. "I had figured I would pull everyone together for a toast after lunch," she says. Instead, thinking that buildings nearby had been blown up, Shah, her kids, and her team evacuated their building at 726 Boylston and went home. "We weren't in the office for a week," she says.

Things have settled down considerably since Shah's somewhat atypical acquisition experience last month. She's now running the Boston office of Mindbody, a California company that sells web-based software to fitness studios, salons, and other wellness-oriented businesses to help them manage their businesses. Jill's List had created a network of more than 4,000 alternative medicine practitioners like acupuncturists and masseuses, and helped employees with flexible spending accounts or health savings account find the right practitioner for their needs, book appointments, and track payments. Employers pay a monthly fee to give their employees access to the Jill's List network.

Jill's List had created a partnership with Mindbody prior to the acquisition. "Their software helps practitioners run their businesses, and we've been trying to feed those practitioners into corporate America," Shah says. "We're also focused on ways to help doctors write orders for things like acupuncture or yoga as easily as they can write an order for a blood test or a CT scan."

"Our thesis is all about the convergence of healthcare and wellness," says Mindbody CEO Rick Stollmeyer, who is planning his first visit to the Boston office this Friday. Jill's List is the company's second acquisition so far; Shah will be senior vice president of what is being rebranded as the Mindbody Wellness Network. The acquisition price isn't being disclosed.

Shah started Jill's List in 2010, and never raised outside funding. She's married to Wayfair co-founder Niraj Shah, whose Back Bay e-commerce company has pursued a different funding strategy: it began as a bootstrapped business, but collected just over $200 million in outside capital last year.

Rescuing Victims of Child Sexual Abuse

With every report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and every law enforcement investigation dealing with child sexual abuse material, a largely unseen—but urgent—effort begins to identify and aid the child or children being harmed in the images.

It is an effort that relies on technology and painstaking investigative work—where details as small as a baseball cap or a soda cup have provided the clues that allowed investigators to find a child.

At the FBI, the Endangered Child Alert Program (ECAP) works alongside Operation Rescue Me to explore every possible avenue in identifying a child victim of sexual abuse. Operation Rescue Me is focused on rescuing the child victim from further abuse and exploitation. In pursuit of that same goal, ECAP seeks national and international exposure of unknown adults whose faces and/or distinguishing characteristics are visible in images of child sexual abuse.

Special Agent Karen Jurden, who heads both programs within the FBI’s Violent Crime Section, explained the two programs this way: “Our goal is to identify victims. But if we’ve exhausted everything we can do on the child, and we have an image where an adult does appear, we will pursue that angle.”

She stressed that the adults featured on ECAP are not always suspected of wrongdoing. “We know that person has knowledge of the victim,” she said.
