People on Social Security and Disability WILL still get their money.

The armed forces WILL continue protecting the country, as will law enforcement like FBI, DEA, and Border Patrol.

As for the rest… police, fire department, emergency medical services (EMS)… they're all taken care of by either your local town, city, or county. They are all still operating as usual. If you call 911 for police, fire, or EMS, they will still come just like always.

The street lights will still turn on at night. The traffic lights will still work. That's all a function of local, county, or state governments which are not shut down.

Banks and stores will all be open. Trucks will still be picking up and delivering food and packages. So your life will be mostly UNAFFECTED by the now-closed federal government.

Which begs the question: If we don't need these people for our everyday lives, why do we have them? It's a fair question.

When this nation was formed, the federal government was supposed to be a government of LIMITED POWER and LIMITED FUNCTIONS. Read the US Constitution. The only things the feds are supposed to do is all in there!

But over decades, politicians decided they wouldn't adhere to the Constitution. They started expanding the areas in which the federal government operates and in most cases, nobody challenged them.
