The Tates are a part of the problem. Imagine you're a law maker and you come home after lunch with some lobbies and you find your young adult son or nephew watching Andrew Tate clips on TikTok. Andrew Tate hacked the algorithm to get billions of views and got it in the full view of law maker envy. Now they're legislating taking control of the social media algorithm to the benefit of the legacy media that the Tates used to mock.
The censorship laws are getting copy-pasted across the planet.

>I don't think anyone with a brain thought the people could just rule themselves,
I don't think the problem is with the people at all. They don't mind working and being productive… if you go and do a google search, pretty much any service you can imagine has someone offering it for a price. If you have the money, you can get anything you want within reason.
The problem is mostly from above, there are too many scandals, too much corruption, every product or platform is decaying* and everything is being unnecessarily over-regulated. They're fucking up too much doing the things that they shouldn't be doing. Dreams of bug protein and non-ownership by incompetents who have to get antibiotics in secret for their fuck-ups. They've destroyed the paychecks and now you're not going to own your own possessions anymore. It's unreasonable.
The irony is that the thing keeping it all in check and preventing the scandals from going too far, free speech, is getting targeted. If it gets regulated, the greed and the incompetence just gets bolder… the negative feedback loop will loosen and break. If you take a paycheck or depend on any system, the future doesn't look good.
