It worked out alright. Get get 35 UID here and ~30 PPD, and when we do post on /v/ we still get 70-80 UID and a burn out in 3 days or less. The Nep community here is pretty stable it seems.
Speaking of which I will probably post a thread on /v/ sometime tomorrow, then we can catch VII's release in the middle of it.

I was considering turning on the jap voices if there was a fan translation but there's not so its still just a bad translation on top of a pleasant voiceover. Also from what I've heard myself of the japanese dub the english script just leaves a lot of shit flat out untranslated.

Ok so you have a NEET joke here about someone finding porn on your hard drive after you die, but you have the localizer taking the joke and making it REALLY OBVIOUS, and then you have the voice actress pronounce the letters H. D. D. like that and puts special ephasis on the word "special" like "WINK WINK NOD NOD YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS RIGHT," and then que the laugh track, cut to a Sonic commercial.
It's like 8chan telling a joke, then 4chan hears it and retells it to reddit but he tells it really bluntly, and removes all the humor from it and all that remains is the reference to something popular.
But I guess I'm just bitching. If I can't make it through the intro then I should probably give up.
I had thought that 1 got a fan translation at some point but I guess it was only 2 that got the meme scrubbed from it.

Well the problem comes in when you have the voice actresses read the script and they read the lines and add special emphasis to words like "special" there, and those changes get backported to the script.
Also still a lot of shit just left untranslated compared between the english text and the japanese audio.

This. It's not even edited by another person, the dude handled it solo. R;B1's translation isn't perfect and there are some script alterations and exclusions that the translator did. But in other areas it's so faithful that it doesn't even really flow well in English.
Virtually everyone agrees that it's a good enough job to not warrant the undertaking of a do-over. Now, if you want bad, you should see R;B3's out of date American pop culture gags.

A) That line was a pretty accurate translation of the original Japanese text. The only difference is that the Japanese version is a tad bit more explicit about what secret HDD collection actually means
B) You really should use the Japanese dub. The English translation isn't exactly a sub, but it's about as close to one as you can get given the technical limitations and unfamiliarity of the translator.

Alright, it's ready to put out there. We (the Re;Birth Retranslation team) made a new tool for the Victory/Re;Birth engine. It's called STCM Editor, it's basically a new text editor that replaces NR#_STRTOOL - the text editor that more or less comes with Kitserver (which is needed to run things like the Retranslation). You can pretty much throw STRTOOL straight into the trash with this out.
The reason for making this was as I stated earlier; the current tool was more or less a hack that didn't always put the text back together the right way once you edited it. This would basically cause the game to flip its shit during a dialogue scene.
We didn't have this problem too much in RB2, but we encountered it right away in RB3. So we made this to finally stick a fork in the issue. Aside from being able to edit text, you can also further take apart the CL3 file, run a file analysis…it's just most powerful all around.
Also, while the readme says explicitly it's for RB3, it'll actually pretty much work with every Neptunia game starting with Victory going forward, at least if my tests with the ReBirth series as a whole are anything to go by.
If you have any bugs to report, post 'em here or in the retranslation thread on /nep/.
