246 "Fully Vaccinated" Michigan Residents Catch COVID-19, 3 Die

So much for the COVID jabs being "100% effective" at preventing "serious illness."

Michigan, now the epicenter of the American COVID outbreak, is desperately begging the federal government for more vaccines. But reports about a rash of infections in "fully vaccinated" patients might provoke a rethink.

The Detroit News reported that as many as 246 vaccinated Michigan residents later tested positive for the deadly bug, including three who have died. The cases were reported between Jan. 1 and March 31, and the 246 had a positive test 14 or more days after the last dose in the vaccine series, said Lynn Sutfin, a spokeswoman for the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

"Some of these individuals may ultimately be excluded from this list due to continuing to test positive from a recent infection prior to being fully vaccinated," she said.

"These cases are undergoing further review to determine if they meet other CDC criteria for determination of potential breakthrough, including the absence of a positive antigen or PCR test less than 45 days prior to the post-vaccination positive test. In general, these persons have been more likely to be asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic compared with vaccinated persons."

The department had hospitalization data for 117 of the cases, but 129 were incomplete, Sutfin added. The three deaths were all "persons 65 years or older," and two of them died within three weeks of completion of vaccination, she said. "While the majority of the population develops full immunity within 14 days of completion of their vaccine series, a small proportion appear to take onger to mount a full antibody response." Of the 117 with data available, 11 were hospitalized, 103 were not hospitalized, and 3 are reported as unknown, Sutfin said.

As of April 4, about 2.95 million residents, or about 36.5% of Michigan's population, have been vaccinated, either with one or two doses, according to the state website. About 4.7M doses had been administered.

New cases have surged over the last month, pushing the 7-day average to its highest level since late last year. Even deaths have started to creep higher, a possible effect of mutant strains that are spreading faster in the state.

Biden Plans Thursday Executive Action On Guns

Shares in gun stocks temporarily spiked higher on Wednesday after Politico reported that President Biden is set to unveil a 'long-awaited executive action on guns,' which is expected to include background checks for owners of so-called ghost guns - which are typically homemade or makeshift firearms that lack serial numbers.

Other components of the executive action(s) are unclear - however some have speculated that Biden will announce regulations on 'concealed assault-style firearms,' as well as prohibitions on purchases for those convicted of domestic violence against their partners. There will also likely be federal guidance on home storage safety measures.

Last week over 100 House Democrats urged Biden to take action on concealed assault-style firearms.

One other announcement Biden could make on Thursday is the introduction of his nominee to be the director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, who will play a key role in any executive branch action on guns. His nominee could be tough to get through a Senate split 50-50 between Republicans and Democrats. The ATF has had mostly acting directors since the position became Senate-confirmed. Todd Jones was confirmed as ATF director in 2013 after a years-long stint as acting director.

In response to criticism from gun control advocacy groups that his administration has moved too slowly on executive actions, the Biden White House has responded that legislative fixes are a priority. Biden is likely to make the same point on Thursday, in addition to expressing support for bills to expand background checks and close the so-called Charleston loophole that allows a gun to be transferred from licensed gun dealers before a completed background check. He also is likely to push for legislation to keep guns away from people believed to be a danger to themselves or others, as well as a ban of assault weapons and high capacity magazines. -Politico

To anyone paying the slightest bit of attention, the official number of COVID-19 cases in Wuhan, China has remained largely 'on brand' for the CCP. In all of Hubei province - which has a population of more than 60 million - they claim to have had just 90,000 cases and 4,636 deaths to date.

For comparison, the lockdown state of California - with a population of 40 million - has had 3.7 million cases and 59,000 deaths since the pandemic began.

And while California hasn't exactly been welding infected residents inside of apartment buildings, the discrepancies between China's reported death toll and the rest of the world's experience has strained credulity for some time.

Now, Hong Kong newspaper Apple Daily reports that mainland Chinese bloggers are describing giant crowds of visitors to graveyards in Wuhan for the country's annual Ching Ming Festival - a day to commemorate the dead. So while some crowds are to be expected, this year's showing was comparatively massive according to the report.

One blogger, citing a recent report from a Hubei-based newspaper Chutian Metropolis Daily, said that 320,000 residents visited cemeteries and graveyards to pay tribute to their fallen family members, and that crowds and vehicles headed for burial grounds filled the streets of Wuhan on Sunday.

That account was echoed by some who claimed to be Wuhan residents. One commented that severe traffic jams were seen on highways leading to graveyards as early as 6 a.m. on Sunday. The scenes were reminiscent of February 11, the eve of the Lunar New Year, when large numbers of Wuhan residents bought chrysanthemums and took them to the graves, the blogger said. -Apple Daily

Kiev's Forces Are Primed For Attack If They Can Overcome Their Own Minefields

Open and wide-scale hostilities appear unavoidable in Eastern Ukraine. Kiev is on the war path, with the “unwavering” support of the US and NATO.

Over April 5th, and going into April 6th, the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) continued their usual activities of deploying more troops to the demarcation line. Russia is also transferring forces to the border with Ukraine and in the Crimea. In total, over the last 24 hours 7 separate ceasefire violations were recorded, each including a high number of shots and shells. Two UAF soldiers were killed.

Near the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR), the UAF has several armored personnel carriers deployed at the village of Schstastye. Still, the LPR said its militia was fully prepared to deal with any Ukrainian provocation, as according to them 60% of Kiev’s military hardware was entirely non-operational.

The Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) reported that its militia had thwarted an attempt by a Ukrainian sabotage group to conduct reconnaissance near the borders of the Republic in the area of the village of Shumy near Horlivka. Incidents of Ukrainian servicemen being blown up by their own mines continue.

Russia, for its part, is making further deployments, as footage showed that Nona-S self-propelled howitzers were being delivered towards the potential frontline. It is also deploying the units of the 76th Guards Air Assault Division, commonly known as the Pskov paratroopers.

Ukraine is continually blaming Russia for the concentration of forces, while it keeps shelling both the DPR and LPR. It is negotiating with its allies, speaking with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and others.

NATO’s military attaché and its advisers are expected to arrive on the front line in Ukraine and provide their military expertise in the potential upcoming hostilities.

The active movement of military transport aircraft between NATO countries and the Ukraine continues. The United States and its allies continue to saturate the Ukrainian army with military equipment, including UAVs, electronic warfare systems, anti-tank systems, MANPADS and other modern high-precision systems.

Meanwhile, the US carried out a typical diplomatic maneuver when a war may break out. It said it would hold discussions with Moscow, as that is the precise form of support Kiev is likely to receive in the case that open hostilities take place. The toolkit includes a willingness to partake in the discussion, and sending Washington’s hopes and prayers.

War between Russia and Ukraine seems to be highly likely. Many military-political experts claim that the current situation can only be resolved by a military conflict. Some of them declare a war now is preferable to a war later for Russia.

African Cardinal Urges Christians to ‘Rebel’ Against Same-Sex Marriage

Cardinal Philippe Ouédraogo of Burkina Faso called on Christian families this weekend to “rebel” against LGBT lobbies that wish to “impose same-sex marriage” on the world.

“While adopting the positive values ​​of modernity, as active agents of the future of the world, African Christian families should rebel against the imperialism of certain lobbies and associations that advocate and want to impose same-sex marriage,” said Cardinal Ouédraogo, Metropolitan Archbishop of Ouagadougou, in his Easter homily.

As part of the official U.S. human rights program, the State Department will resume the practice of the Obama administration of pressing countries to legalize abortion and same-sex marriage, a position that has angered Africans who view the measure as an imposition of Western values.

When President Biden reinstated taxpayer-funded abortions abroad, repealing the Mexico City policy, African human rights activists warned of a neo-colonialist push to force Africans to abandon their values, which include appreciation for every human life including the unborn.

A group called Culture of Life Africa released a video titled “A Message for President Biden,” which begins: “We appeal to Joe Biden, please do not, do not, do not, sponsor abortion in Africa.”

“We all deserve the right to live. I stand against the funding of abortion in Africa,” declares another speaker.

Nigerian human rights activist Obianuju Ekeocha, a biomedical scientist and author, also decried President Biden’s overturning of the Mexico City policy, especially as it affects Africa.

“The experts in the halls of Western power disregard the views and the values of an entire nation in order to push their pro-abortion agenda,” Ekeocha stated in her 2018 book Target Africa: Ideological Neocolonialism in the Twenty-First Century.

“At the core of my people’s value system is the profound recognition that human life is precious, paramount, and supreme,” she stated. “For us, abortion, which is the deliberate killing of little ones in the womb, is a direct attack on innocent human life. It is a serious injustice, which no one should have the right to commit.”

Unfortunately, Ekeocha observed, in their efforts to impose an abortion culture, those in the West care little for what Africans want.

“It is time for the international community to listen to the voices of the African people and to desist from pushing abortion on them,” she declared.

The financing of abortion in Africa, Ekeocha notes, is part of a larger war on the African people. “Western nations, organizations, and foundations wage war against the bodies of African women” in a frontal attack on “female fertility,” she says.

“The insistence on reducing the population of Africa, no matter what the cost to the Africans themselves, is racism, imperialism, and colonialism disguised as philanthropy,” she states.

In other words, if the minimum standard is, say, 25 points, and those with the correct skin color and vaginas score a 26, they will be trained to fly your plane; they will be affirmative action’d in over someone with the incorrect skin color and no vagina who scored a 35.

This is INSANE!

This is not only an INSANE admission on United’s part, it is INSANE that the dominant culture is so deranged by woketardery that United believed it was okay to make this INSANE admission in public.

All empires eventually fall. The trick is to put off the end for as long as possible and to make the years in between the start and the finish the best they can be. Bumps and ruts in the road during these in-between years are standard fare. We get ourselves in trouble, make mistakes, and, at times, bumble along. If we can identify our mistakes, learn from them and generally not repeat them, our republic has a better chance of a long and prosperous existence.

America is in the middle of one of those bump-and-rut situations right now, and it’s going to take a concerted effort to get our country back on the road to liberty and prosperity. Instead, we are sitting mesmerized in front of our iPhones and TVs, sending our hard-earned money to political grifters and expecting someone to come along to save us. Pretending the last five years didn’t happen and waiting for the 2022 midterms to vote our way back to sanity is in itself the definition of insanity. The hard truth is that no one is coming to save us.

In 1979, when almost everything in America seemed broken, Jimmy Carter famously said we were suffering from a “crisis of confidence” in an address commentators soon dubbed “the malaise speech.” For our time, maybe the better description would be we’re in the middle of a national shit sandwich. On one hand, it’s obvious that political “business as usual” is over. At the federal level, voting and elected representation are now comically low-return mechanisms for influencing the actions of government. On the other hand, the seppuku-like overreaction to the January 6 Capitol clown show has cowed conservatives into abandoning the remaining avenues of physical protest and dissent against the Left’s authoritarian aspirations.

So, what’s left? George Will-style principled debate? How does that debate exist within the framework of our current cancel culture? If traditional America wants to be anything other than the Left’s token opposition, it needs to push away from the political dinner table and say “No . . . no more of this shit sandwich for me, Mom.”

Make It Rhyme

The current regime in D.C. has some issues, to put it mildly, and its handlers are busy working to shore up its power. Creating a faux internal enemy with the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act, H.R. 1 election rigging, gun control, lawless immigration, Puerto Rico and D.C. statehood initiatives and a rash of executive orders are all part of a plan to give the Left unassailable political dominance and implement permanent one-party control. The regime is moving fast, aware that traditional America is disorganized. They realize that this sleeping giant will eventually awake, and they are racing to put in place the cage to contain it before it does.

It may seem trite to say "freedom isn't free" but it's true - and now it the time to make the next payment on the future of our republic.

History doesn’t always repeat itself, but you can make it rhyme if you try. In 2010, the Tea Party grassroots movement halted the Obama Administration’s overt agenda to radically transform America. It wasn’t the GOP establishment, the RNC leadership, or the politicians who made the Tea Party the destroyer of utopian fantasies—it was the people. More specifically, it was the little people—the grassroots. The working class, the independent-minded conservatives, and the rowdy not-in-my-house Americans took back the House of Representatives and staved off the Democrats’ planned transformation of America in a 2010 version of the spectacle we are seeing today. We need to take the lessons learned from that grassroots Tea Party effort and make them rhyme in the present.

Black-pilled voices of doom say that “voting is the suggestion box of slaves.” This might not be exactly true—yet. But voting can no longer be the end all be all of the citizen’s methods of managing their governance.

If the integrity of the vote is threatened by H.R. 1 and the 2020 election template, and if our elected representatives are not representing us, how do we, the people, reassert control of our country?

The answer is by employing citizen actions—political actions—as part of a grassroots movement that eschews old-school GOP street theater. The grassroots have a unique authority to do this because they alone consist of the people whose consent forms the legitimacy of government.

Building the Movement

Political actions are the people’s way of making their voices heard when couch-based slacktivisim, Twitter, and voting don’t work. Political actions run the gamut of activities, including organized protests, marches, general strikes, information operations, civil disobedience, election organizing, and more.

These are not social events where we don our red hats, hang out and party with friends, and take selfies to post on social media. Political actions should be serious, planned, and controlled events. Think of Poland’s Solidarity movement or Martin Luther King Jr.’s marches during the civil rights era, not Trump rallies or spring break, D.C.-style. When the people engage in political actions in the streets, it is an instrument of their struggle for freedom and the future of the republic. When a movement is operating in a non-permissive environment with an active threat from the nation’s security services, it needs to employ reasonable digital countermeasures, tactical maturity, and discipline.

Successful political action starts at the grassroots. Local grassroots organizing lays the foundation for the necessary recruiting, training, education, and fundraising that allows for effective and disciplined actions.

Likewise, local grassroots movements become the building blocks for larger regional- and national-level political movements—start local to go national. Organizing at the local level has added benefit as an alternative to overreliance on social media and other types of electronic communications platforms—nearly all of which are controlled by the Left and are monitored by the national security apparatus—and it provides an out-of-band mechanism to plan and conduct events.

The key to victory with political actions is to employ them all together in a multi-domain effort. In almost every Chuck Norris martial arts movie, Norris bravely takes on a pack of 10-15 super bad guys . . . one at a time. Why? Why don’t the bad guys all rush him at once and give Chuck the beatdown of his life? Some questions will forever go unanswered, but here in the world of political resistance, the rule is that multi-domain actions should take place concurrently in order to create a critical bow-wave that 1) disrupts the opposition leadership’s decision cycle and 2) neutralizes his activities. Political actions need to be all the time and everywhere. They need to capture the people’s voice, their demands, and their inherent power.

Influencing the policies of state and local governments is now more vital than ever. To disrupt the Left’s march to an authoritarian oligarchy, traditional America, via their grassroots political movements, should leverage the 10th Amendment and advocate a process called nullification.

Nullification derives from the fact that the federal government is limited to only the powers expressly granted to it by the Constitution, and all other powers are retained by the various states. Through the 10th Amendment, the sovereign people explicitly grant the states the status of sovereign political entities within a federalist compact by granting them specific powers. When the federal government exceeds those powers granted to it by the sovereign people in the Constitution, or when it infringes on the sovereignty of the states through laws or executive actions that are neither necessary nor proper, the states have the right to use nullification to protect their citizens’ interests. In our situation, consider nullification a defensive shield that buys America the time and space it needs to get the republic back in functioning order.

Think about it for a moment. We have the capability to do all these things. We don’t need a leader in Washington to tell us what to do. We don’t need permission from a political party. We can make our voices heard and our demands heeded merely by organizing, creating a unified agenda, and taking it to the streets.

Whither the White Knight—Long Live the Republic

America in 2021 is a very different country than it was even five years ago. It seems to have lost its defiance and the will to do what it takes to assert a government by the people, and for the people. To save the republic, its citizens are going to have to do the work. We will not win back our freedom by passively awaiting the arrival of a white knight. We need effective grassroots organizations to employ the political actions that will make our voices heard, and chart a future where we can again speak freely, associate with whomever we choose, and pursue the once-vaunted American dream.

Americans have a history here. We’ve done this before. We can do it again. If we are going to get back to a free republic we are going to have to travel the hard road. It may seem trite to say “freedom isn’t free,” but it’s true—and now is the time to make the next payment on the future of our republic.

What Will The Western Half Of The US Look Like During "The Second Dust Bowl"?

Scientists have begun using the term “megadrought” to describe the multi-year drought that has been plaguing the western half of the country, and now we are being told that it looks like 2021 will be the worst year of this “megadrought” so far by a wide margin. That is extremely troubling news, because major water reservoirs have already dropped to dangerously low levels, some farmers have been told that they will not be allowed to use any water at all this year, and the dust storms in the western U.S. are becoming so large that they can actually be seen from space. This is a major national crisis, and it is only going to get worse.

As you can see from the latest U.S. Drought Monitor map, nearly the entire western half of the nation is experiencing some level of drought at this moment.

New Mexico is right in the heart of “the second Dust Bowl”, and chile farmer Glen Duggins is bracing for a very difficult year…

The Rio Grande is expected to be in extreme drought this year, creating tough conditions for local farmers and putting New Mexico‘s beloved chile in danger. “It’s gonna be a tough year because we are out of water,” said Glen Duggins, a chile farmer out in Socorro County.

When he says that they are “out of water”, he is not exaggerating.

It is only early April, and the largest reservoir in the entire state “stands at less than 11% capacity”…

Along the Rio Grande, New Mexico’s largest reservoir stands at less than 11% capacity, meaning the irrigation season for farmers in the southern part of the state will likely start late and include only small allotments.

Farther north, managers with the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District are in a position not seen in decades. There’s no extra water in the reservoirs, and interstate water-sharing agreements are restricting storage and releases from upstream reservoirs because New Mexico has fallen short of what it owes Texas.

In fact, it is being projected that Lake Mead and Lake Powell are both headed for record lows…

The country’s two largest reservoirs are both headed for record lows. The last time Lake Mead reached a record low level was in 2016. The latest projections from the federal Bureau of Reclamation show Mead could fall below that mark as soon as July. Lake Powell is now just 36% full, and estimates show it could decline to a record low around March 2022.

Officials are telling us that they are doing everything that they can to conserve water, but if current trends continue it is just a matter of time before draconian restrictions start to be instituted.

Further west, the state of California also appears to be heading toward a major water crisis…

On Thursday, the unofficial end of California’s wet season, officials announced that the accumulation of snow in the Sierra Nevada mountains and the Cascades was about 40% below average levels. The state doesn’t have enough snow and rain banked to replenish its groundwater supplies, feed its rivers and streams or fill depleted reservoirs.

“It’s not just that we’re anticipating a dry year, it’s that this is our second extremely dry year, in a row,” said Daniel Swain, a climate scientist at the University of California Los Angeles and the Nature Conservancy. California – along with much of the US west – is parched, Swain added, and should brace for water cuts and arid conditions that could trigger more destructive wildfires.

We have seen droughts in California before, but this one is shaping up to be really, really bad.

At this point, we are being told that “agricultural customers south of California’s delta” will not be allowed to receive any water at all this year…

Already, the California department of water resources has announced major cuts to the reservoirs and aqueducts that supply farms and cities. The Federal Bureau of Reclamation, which delivers water to farms up and down the state’s Central Valley, said agricultural customers south of California’s delta, which feeds into the San Francisco Bay, will not be getting any water this year. And some localities, including Marin county, north of the San Francisco Bay, have asked residents to voluntarily cut back on their water use.

If you are a farmer, how are you supposed to operate a farm if you are not allowed to have any water?

Remember, this is just early April.

As temperatures rise and conditions get even drier, things will only get even crazier during the summer months.

A Dust Storm Warning was issued for Lubbock and the surrounding counties Monday evening due to damaging wind gusts in excess of 60+ mph and near-zero visibility due to blowing dust.

The days of “the second Dust Bowl” are here, and they are going to be quite bitter.

Yes, our technology may be a lot more advanced now, but we remain exceedingly dependent on our water resources.

Those resources are going to continue to dwindle in the western half of the country, and that is going to force some extremely difficult decisions to be made in the months and years ahead.

US Colleges Push To Mandate Student Vaccinations Before Fall Semester

A growing number of U.S. colleges are announcing plans to mandate the vaccination of students returning to campus this fall, in line with President Joe Biden’s pledge to make all adults in the country eligible for COVID-19 jabs by early summer.

At least six colleges - Cornell University, Rutgers University, Fort Lewis College, Nova Southeastern University, St. Edward’s University, and Roger Williams College in Rhode Island - have so far said that all students would need to be vaccinated before a fall return.

Three COVID-19 vaccines have been authorized for emergency use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States so far - Pfizer/BioNTech’s two-dose vaccine, Moderna’s two-dose vaccine, and Johnson & Johnson’s single-shot vaccine. Emergency use authorization is a faster, less rigorous process compared to full FDA approval.

Vaccines that have previously been required by U.S. colleges, for example shots for rubella or measles, had full FDA approval.

Rutgers President Jonathan Holloway said in a statement that its vaccine requirement will apply to three of the university’s main campuses—New Brunswick, Newark, and Camden. Beginning this fall, students will be required to present “proof of vaccination” before they are allowed to move into their dormitories, or attend physical classes.

“Adding COVID-19 vaccination to our student immunization requirements will help provide a safer and more robust college experience for our students,” Holloway said in the statement, noting that students may file for an exemption for religious or medical reasons.

Fort Lewis College President Tom Stritikus said in a letter that the requirement will provide “our best hope for returning to the hands-on, inclusive, experiential, and personalized learning environment that we have all come to love.”

“As such, all students enrolling at FLC for the fall 2021 semester will be required to get a COVID-19 vaccine,” Stritikus said.

Cornell University President Martha E. Pollack wrote in a letter that it plans to require students returning to Ithaca, Geneva, and Cornell Tech campuses this fall to be vaccinated against COVID-19, the disease caused by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus.

The decision was made following “recent announcements of expanded vaccine eligibility in New York and other states, and increasing vaccine production,” Pollack said.

On Friday, Nova Southeastern University said in a statement that it intends to resume “full, in-person classroom learning for on-ground courses” in the fall, and that all students, faculty, and staff will need to be vaccinated.

At St. Edward’s University, all employees and students aged 16 and above will be required to be vaccinated for a return to campus this fall semester, its COVID-19 Steering Team announced (pdf). Pfizer’s vaccine is the only one with FDA authorization for use in people as young as 16.

According to The New York Times, since Jan. 1, more than 120,000 CCP virus cases have been linked to U.S. colleges and universities, with more than 100 deaths involving students and employees since the beginning of the pandemic. The majority of those who have died have been employees, and most of the deaths occurred last year, the report states, citing case data through open records requests at public universities.

FROM: Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity (VIPS)

SUBJECT: Avoiding War in Ukraine

Dear President Biden,

We last communicated with you on December 20, 2020, when you were President-elect.

At that time, we alerted you to the dangers inherent in formulating a policy toward Russia built on a foundation of Russia-bashing. While we continue to support the analysis contained in that memorandum, this new memo serves a far more pressing purpose. We wish to draw your attention to the dangerous situation that exists in Ukraine today, where there is growing risk of war unless you take steps to forestall such a conflict.

At this juncture, we call to mind two basic realities that need particular emphasis amid growing tension between Ukraine and Russia.

First, since Ukraine is not a member of NATO, Article 5 of the NATO Treaty of course would not apply in the case of an armed conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

Second, Ukraine’s current military flexing, if allowed to transition into actual military action, could lead to hostilities with Russia.

We think it crucial that your administration immediately seek to remove from the table, so to speak, any "solution" to the current impasse that has a military component. In short, there is, and can never be, a military solution to this problem.

Your interim national security strategy guidance indicated that your administration would "make smart and disciplined choices regarding our national defense and the responsible use of our military, while elevating diplomacy as our tool of first resort." Right now is the perfect time to put these words into action for all to see.

We strongly believe:

1. It must be made clear to Ukrainian President Zelensky that there will be no military assistance from either the US or NATO if he does not restrain Ukrainian hawks itching to give Russia a bloody nose — hawks who may well expect the West to come to Ukraine’s aid in any conflict with Russia. (There must be no repeat of the fiasco of August 2008, when the Republic of Georgia initiated offensive military operations against South Ossetia in the mistaken belief that the US would come to its assistance if Russia responded militarily.)

2. We recommend that you quickly get back in touch with Zelensky and insist that Kiev halt its current military buildup in eastern Ukraine. Russian forces have been lining up at the border ready to react if Zelensky’s loose talk of war becomes more than bravado. Washington should also put on hold all military training activity involving US and NATO troops in the region. This would lessen the chance that Ukraine would misinterpret these training missions as a de facto sign of support for Ukrainian military operations to regain control of either the Donbas or Crimea.

3. It is equally imperative that the U.S. engage in high-level diplomatic talks with Russia to reduce tensions in the region and de-escalate the current rush toward military conflict. Untangling the complex web of issues that currently burden U.S.-Russia relations is a formidable task that will not be accomplished overnight. This would be an opportune time to work toward a joint goal of preventing armed hostilities in Ukraine and wider war.

There is opportunity as well as risk in the current friction over Ukraine.
