Credit Suisse to Make Payment in Scandal-Hit Fund in Coming Weeks
Credit Suisse Group AG plans to make a further cash repayment to investors in its scandal-hit $10 billion group of supply chain funds in coming weeks after returning $3.1 billion so far to investors. The payment will be made by early to mid-April the bank said, adding that it expects the majority part of the funds’ investments to be recovered in the liquidation process. The bank said the four funds have current cash equivalents of about $1.5 billion. The funds need to retain some cash to ensure the ability to wind down the portfolio in the best interest of investors, the bank said. “We continue to explore other options for expediting the return of cash to investors,” the bank said in an Q&A on its website.
Credit Suisse is battling on multiple fronts. The Swiss bank expects its loss tied to the implosion of Archegos Capital Management to run into the billions, according to people with knowledge of the matter, while it is still grappling with litigation threats from investors, potential financial losses and regulatory scrutiny around Greensill. Earlier this month, the bank replaced asset management head Eric Varvel with ex-UBS Group AG executive Ulrich Koerner.
The bank also said today that a suspension of separate funds that had invested in the supply chain finance strategy will be lifted, while the hard-to-value assets will be separated into side-pockets.

They (Fed) got rid of any reserve requirement(s) in March last year…not that they were in the business of actually enforcing anything mind you.

Just a heads up.
It has never set well with me to have a bred I baked on changed by the next baker. It invites the thoughts of someone manipulating the dough/bake.
PLEASE DO NOT MESS WITH PREVIOUS BAKERS WORK. I know it has been a problem by early bakers historically changing things.
Here is why we should be baking TOP DOWN..
When you are baking, and you highlight a title, hit the post # it automatically gets populated in the post section. If you are baking opposite direction (as seen in my caps) it gives title UNDER the baking from bottom to top.. it goes against the flow.
I would like to see us all baking from TOP DOWN because honestly that is the way it should be.
I will be on later tonight.
There is so much going on and to call out bakers for their speak/language at this stage in the game is just whatever.
Bakers.. please visit news sites, please visit twatter. There is SO much going on that really even with the amount of anons here we should be doing 2 breds a day.

Pressure for hedge fund scrutiny builds as Yellen leads her first U.S. financial stability meeting
U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is facing pressure from Democrats to revive tougher scrutiny of hedge funds and other large pools of capital as she heads her first meeting of the premier grouping of U.S. financial regulators on Wednesday. The meltdown of leveraged hedge fund Archegos Capital Management this week, which inflicted losses on Credit Suisse, Nomura and other intermediaries, gives the Financial Stability Oversight Council fresh evidence to review.
The council, led by Treasury and including heads of the Fed, the Securities and Exchange Commission and other major financial regulators, is scheduled to meet at 3 p.m. EDT (1900 GMT) to privately discuss hedge fund activity and the performance of open-end mutual funds during the coronavirus pandemic. It also will hold a rare public session to discuss financial system risks from climate change for the first time. Archegos’ failure to meet margin calls is the third significant market episode in the space of a year involving faltering hedge funds or open-end mutual funds. Thus far, the damage from the Archegos incident has been limited to a handful of stocks, including ViaComCBS Inc and Discovery Inc, but concerns are rising that trillions of dollars in government coronavirus aid will fuel more market risk-taking.
Former Treasury Secretary Jack Lew used the FSOC from 2014 to 2016 to focus on risks posed by hedge funds and asset managers, forming a working group here to study their use of leverage. Yellen, an FSOC member as Fed chair, backed these initiatives. The fund leverage working group was abandoned by President Donald Trump’s Treasury secretary, Steven Mnuchin. The FSOC also weakened rules on the designation of nonbank financial institutions as systemically important. Gelzinis said that a good FSOC start for Yellen would be to revive the Treasury working group on hedge fund leverage.
The Treasury declined to comment further on the agenda for Wednesday’s meeting, which was issued last week, before news of the Archegos downfall broke.

NAR: Pending Home Sales Decrease 10.6% in February
Pending home sales dipped for a second straight month in February, according to the National Association of Realtors. Each of the four major U.S. regions witnessed month-over-month declines in February, while results were mixed in the four regions year-over-year. The Pending Home Sales Index (PHSI), a forward-looking indicator of home sales based on contract signings, dropped 10.6% to 110.3 in February. Year-over-year, contract signings fell 0.5%. An index of 100 is equal to the level of contract activity in 2001.
The Northeast PHSI fell 9.2% to 92.3 in February, a 3.9% dip from a year ago. In the Midwest, the index dropped 9.5% to 102.4 last month, down 6.1% from February 2020. Pending home sales transactions in the South declined 13.0% to an index of 133.2 in February, up 2.9% from February 2020. The index in the West fell 7.4% in February to 96.9, up 1.9% from a year prior.
This was well below expectations for this index. Note: Contract signings usually lead sales by about 45 to 60 days, so this would usually be for closed sales in March and April.

The Greenwich school district in Connecticut is under fire after playing a cartoon video for a second grade remote class featuring an erect penis.
The video features two owls talking about fear before showing images like parents fighting, physical abuse of a child, and child sexual abuse. The sexual abuse portion featured a profile of a man’s erect penis standing in front of a small child and graphic descriptions of abuse.
Greenwich Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones said in an email to outraged parents that the cartoon was most likely meant for a private therapy session for children who have experienced trauma.
Jones also apologized for any “questions or concerns this may have raised for children.”
Conservative political commentator Carl Higbie, who has children in the school, but not in that class, is demanding that someone be fired for this egregious incident. He has also emailed everyone involved demanding that they preserve all emails and records related to the incident for a Freedom of Information Act request that he has filed.

Dollar’s Share of Global Reserves Sinks to Lowest Since 1995
The dollar’s share of global currency reserves dropped in the fourth quarter to around 59%, the lowest in 25 years, according to International Monetary Fund data.
The slide came in a quarter when a gauge of the greenback fell the most since 2010, and amid questions about how long the dollar can maintain its status as the pre-eminent reserve currency. The Chinese renminbi is transforming into a force to be reckoned with in currency markets, with more yuan changing hands than ever before in London, the world’s leading foreign-exchange center. In the fourth quarter, the euro’s share of official foreign-exchange reserves climbed to 21.2% from 20.5%, while the yuan’s rose to almost 2.3% from 2.1%. The renminbi accounted for 1.94% in the final three months of 2019.

Despite all the outrage and the threats of charging “insurrectionists” with sedition—the act of attempting to overthrow the government—proving them based upon actual facts and evidence seems to be increasingly unlikely. For example, Michael Cantrell reported on America’s Sheriff that:
“Many of the trials for individuals involved in the Capitol riot of January 6th have started and much to the chagrin of liberals everywhere, the charges these folks are facing aren’t quite as serious as we were all led to believe they would be. In fact, the Justice Department has now said that the body of evidence in these cases is not as damaging as it was previously thought to be.”
Further, developing reports indicate that none of the 400 people who have been arrested for their involvement in the riot have been charged with sedition, according to the Post Millennial. The most serious charge that has been brought against a defendant in this incident has been assault. To be clear, there is quite a leap between the charges of assault—and the charges of conspiring to overthrow the government.
Even more perplexing, while others have been charged with conspiracy and obstruction, there’s a rather inconvenient fact that prosecutors must reckon. As the Post Millenial explained: “Others have been charged with conspiracy, and obstruction. While five people lost their lives during the riot, only one was killed with a weapon, and that was Ashli Babbit, who died after being shot by an unnamed Capitol Police Officer.”
The secrecy surrounding the death investigations of Sicknick and Babbit do nothing to bolster confidence in “transparency.” The additional three victims suffered medical emergencies, yet transparency is still lacking in these cases as well.

President Biden on Tuesday morning announced his first slate of judicial nominees, which includes three judges to the powerful federal courts of appeals, igniting more speculation about possible future nominees to the Supreme Court.
Biden's list of 11 nominees is headlined by Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, who would replace Attorney General Merrick Garland on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. The D.C. Circuit is considered the second-highest court in the land and a feeder bench to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Taiwan

Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed legislation Wednesday morning to legalize adult-use, recreational cannabis in New York and create the country’s second-largest recreational marijuana market.
With the governor’s endorsement of the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act, NY S854 (21R) / NY A1248 (21R), which cleared the Legislature late Tuesday, New York officially joins 16 other states, including New Jersey and Massachusetts, that have embraced full legalization. More than two-thirds of the northeast’s 56 million residents will live in states that have legalized recreational cannabis, ramping up pressure on Washington, D.C., to ease federal restrictions on the drug.
"This is a historic day in New York — one that rights the wrongs of the past by putting an end to harsh prison sentences, embraces an industry that will grow the Empire State's economy, and prioritizes marginalized communities so those that have suffered the most will be the first to reap the benefits,” Cuomo said in a statement issued after he quietly signed the bill.
New Yorkers aged 21 and older can now legally possess and consume cannabis. Dispensaries are not expected to open in New York until at least 2022 under the new regulatory and licensing structure.
State Sen. Liz Krueger (D-Manhattan) and Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes, the sponsors of the legislation in their respective chambers, also touted the bill’s historic significance as it moved through the Legislature hours earlier.
“The last time New York State did anything like this is when we were removing the prohibition from alcohol: that was in 1933. Here we are in 2021 — almost 100 years of prohibition on marijuana — and we’re removing it,” Peoples-Stokes said during remarks delivered on the Assembly floor late Tuesday.
Krueger said she was “very proud to have played a role” in what she called “a nation-leading model for what marijuana legalization can look like.”

SEC Opens Investigation Into Archegos Trades That Sparked Rout

Build America Bonds may return after a 10-year absence as part of U.S. President Joe Biden’s $2.3 trillion plan to tackle the nation’s infrastructure needs, although some past issuers are wary about selling more of the federally subsidized debt. The popular bond program was created under the Obama administration as part of an economic stimulus law, allowing states, cities, schools, airports, mass transit agencies, and others to sell for a limited time taxable debt with the federal government contributing 35% of interest costs. Between April 2009 and when the authorization expired at the end of 2010, $181.5 billion of the so-called BABs were issued to fund construction projects aimed at helping the nation recover from the financial crisis. Over the last 10 years, BABs on average have outperformed corporate bonds, U.S. Treasuries, and municipal bonds due to factors including the debt’s hefty coupons and scarcity.
Now the $3.9 trillion U.S. municipal bond market is buzzing with speculation that with Democrats in control of the White House and the U.S. Congress, legislation for Biden’s plan will bring BABs back. U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg told CNBC late last week that BABs show “promise.”

A reaction to Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccine caused a severe rash that eventually led to a man’s skin peeling off, doctors and the man said.
“It all just happened so fast. My skin peeled off. It’s still coming off on my hands now,” Richard Terrell, 74, of Virginia, told WRIC.
Terrell received the shot earlier this month but was soon forced to go to the Virginia Commonwealth University’s (VCU) Medical Center for treatment.
The issues began appearing four days after the injection. Discomfort turned into an itchy rash that began to swell.
Graphic photographs show how Terrell’s legs and feet turned bright red as swelling intensified.
“It was stinging, burning, and itching,” Terrell said.
“Whenever I bent my arms or legs, like the inside of my knee, it was very painful where the skin was swollen and was rubbing against itself.”
Fnu Nutan, a dermatology hospitalist at VCU, said doctors determined what happened to Terrell was a reaction to the vaccine.
“We ruled out all the viral infections, we ruled out COVID-19 itself, we made sure that his kidneys and liver was okay, and finally we came to the conclusion that it was the vaccine that he had received that was the cause,” Nutan told WRIC.
“Lots of patients come in and say ‘I got the vaccine, here’s what happened, I’m sure it’s the vaccine,’” Nutan added to Fox News. “We’re very careful when we see such patients, we want to make sure we have ruled out the more common causes of the reaction—most commonly it would be antibiotics or something he took, even over-the-counter.”
Tests done on Terrell included ones for viral illnesses, COVID-19, and adenovirus.
Nutan said the reaction, which likely had to do with Terrell’s genetic makeup and the vaccine type, is extremely rare and that she still recommends people get a COVID-19 vaccine.
“If you look at the risk of getting the virus versus the benefit of getting the vaccine, the risk-benefit is still highly in favor of the vaccine,” she said.
Johnson & Johnson, VCU, the Virginia Department of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) did not respond to requests for comment.
Drug regulators authorized Johnson & Johnson’s shot last month.
As of March 30, 96 million Americans have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose. According to the passive reporting Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), 1,005 reports of skin issues following vaccination have been lodged in the United States. In total, there are 160,137 reports of adverse effects following vaccination.
Federal authorities, including the CDC, say they’re monitoring reports of severe allergic reactions, including by following up on reports from VAERS. Anaphylaxis, or severe allergic reaction, post-COVID-19 vaccination is rare, occurring in two to five people per million vaccinated in the United States, the CDC says on its website.
“This kind of allergic reaction almost always occurs within 30 minutes after vaccination. Fortunately, vaccination providers have medicines available to effectively and immediately treat patients who experience anaphylaxis following vaccination,” it states.

5 people shot, 2 dead after shooting in Congress Heights
Three of those shot have non-life-threatening injuries, officials say.
WASHINGTON — Two people are dead and three people are suffering non-life-threatening injuries after a Wednesday afternoon shooting in the Congress Heights neighborhood of Southeast D.C., police said.
According to D.C. Police, the call came in just before 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon for reports of a shooting in the 1300 block of Congress Street and Savannah Street in Southeast D.C. – just a block away from the Congress Heights Metro station.
Once on the scene, officials said they discovered several victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Two people a man and a woman who have not yet been identified died on the scene from their injuries. Two others were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Another person who was shot walked to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee said during a news conference Wednesday afternoon.
"As a commissioner, honestly this is brutally toxic. Traumatized. Heartbroken," Congress Heights ANC Commissioner Shekita McBroom said in an interview with WUSA9.
Contee did not release any information on the suspect(s) involved but did tell WUSA9 that D.C. Police are not ruling out multiple suspects. There is a $25,000 reward for information on this case, police said.
A WUSA9 analysis of MPD crime data found the Congress Heights neighborhood has seen more than its share of violent crime over the past two years. During that period, the area within a quarter-mile radius of the shooting has seen 20 assaults with a dangerous weapon, 13 armed robberies and seven homicides before Wednesday.

SANTA TERESA, N.M. — Video released Wednesday by federal authorities show two Ecuadoran children being abandoned by smugglers after they were dropped over a 14-foot-high barrier along the U.S.-Mexico border.
The toddler and her 5-year-old sister were unhurt, but officials with the U.S. Border Patrol called the incident appalling.
It comes as the Biden administration struggles with finding space to house the several hundred kids and teenagers who are crossing the border daily. In some cases, parents refused entry into the U.S. have sent their children across the border alone, hoping they eventually will be placed with relatives. As a result, holding facilities are packed, and the administration is scrambling to find more temporary housing options.
Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez in the El Paso sector, which includes parts of Texas and New Mexico, said an agent using a remote camera was able to spot a person straddling the barrier. The video shows the person lowering the children one at a time before letting them drop to the ground below. The children stood up as two people fled on the other side of the border.
"We are currently working with our law enforcement partners in Mexico and attempting to identify these ruthless human smugglers so as to hold them accountable to the fullest extent of the law," Chavez said in a statement.
Authorities said Santa Teresa border agents were able to find the 3- and 5-year-old sisters after being directed by the camera operator to the remote location in New Mexico, just west of El Paso, Texas. The girls were alert but were taken to a hospital to be checked out and cleared. They currently remain at a Border Patrol temporary holding facility pending placement by the U.S. Health and Human Services Department.
