Davos Great Reset: French Prez Macron Declares Modern Capitalism ‘Can No Longer Work’

At the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) virtual Davos Agenda summit on Tuesday, French President Emmanuel Macron declared that in the wake of the Chinese coronavirus modern capitalism “can no longer work”.

Appearing before a question and answer session conducted with ‘Great Reset’ architect and founder-chairman of the WEF, Klaus Schwab, Mr Macron said that while capitalism has historically driven down poverty globally, he claimed that it came with the cost of furthering inequality.

“We will get out of this pandemic only with an economy that thinks more about fighting inequalities,” Macron said.

“The capitalist model together with this open economy can no longer work in this environment,” he added.

The French president pronounced that capitalism has resulted in a “deep moral and economic crisis” in which “hundreds and thousands of people throughout the world had this feeling of losing their usefulness.”

Macron said there were “two kings in this system—shareholders and consumers,” and that capitalism has failed to support labourers and has been detrimental to the environment.

Mr Marcon — who has been seen largely as an economically neo-liberal leader — went on to claim that the world needs to “move beyond” the hostility towards state intervention into the economy and that companies must be bound by the responsibilities of alleviating economic inequality and reducing their alleged impact on the climate.

He argued that for the “economy of tomorrow” to succeed, businesses must balance competitiveness with fighting supposedly man-made climate change and reducing Carbon Dioxide emissions.

Macron went on to express his gratitude for President Joe Biden’s decision to rejoin the Paris Climate Accords — which the United States left under the leadership of former President Trump — yet called for leaders to “revise upwards” their green agenda goals.

EU Bureaucrats Try to Seize UK-Made Vaccines After Covid Failures

The European Union, which failed to secure early production of coronavirus vaccines, is demanding that UK-made AstraZeneca doses produced for Britons be sent to Europe instead.

Earlier this week, the European Commission threatened to halt the export of vaccines made in Europe produced under a UK contract, after both drugs companies Pfizer and AstraZeneca revealed a delay in delivery to the EU market due to production problems in Belgium.

While Eurocrats sought to blame AstraZeneca and alleged that it was favouring the UK as a customer, the company’s CEO revealed that the UK had a contract in place three months before the bloc, and implied Brussels bureaucracy was to blame for the lack of progress with successful vaccine production.

Now, in order to make up for the bloc’s shortfall, the EU is demanding that not only are exports of the drugs forbidden but that millions of vaccines made in the UK by the joint British AstraZeneca-Oxford venture — under the British government’s contract, meant for Britons — be sent to Europe, according to The Telegraph.

Speaking to media on Tuesday, AstraZeneca CEO Pascal Soriot also denied it was in breach of contact with the EU, as it could only offer a “best effort” to deliver to Europe because of Brussels’ delays.

European Commission Health Minister Stella Kyriakides alleges that is not true, going as far as claiming the crop from British vaccine laboratories are under EU dominion.

The Eurocrat said: “Not being able to ensure manufacturing capacity is against the letter and the spirit of our agreement. We reject the logic of ‘first come, first served’. That may work at the neighbourhood butchers, but not in contracts. And not in our advanced purchase agreements.”

Ms Kyriakides also claimed that there is “no hierarchy of the four production plants named in the advanced purchase agreement” with AstraZeneca, continuing that of the four factories listed, “it does not differentiate between the UK and Europe”.

She then made the extraordinary claim that the “UK factories are part of the advanced purchase agreements, and this is why they have to deliver”.

“We expected the doses that are in the advanced purchase agreement to be delivered to the European Union,” she added.

New York’s nursing-home death toll from COVID-19 may be more than 50 percent higher than officials claim — because Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s administration hasn’t revealed how many of those residents died in hospitals, state Attorney General Letitia James announced Thursday.

In a damning, 76-page report, James also said that some unidentified nursing homes apparently underreported resident fatalities to the state Department of Health and failed to enforce infection-control measures — with more than 20 currently under investigation.

The bombshell findings could push the current DOH tally of 8,711 deaths to more than 13,000, based on a survey of 62 nursing homes that found the state undercounted the fatalities there by an average of 56 percent.

Trafigura Boosted Oil Tanker Fleet by 70% as Crude Went Negative

Trafigura Group boosted its shipping fleet by 70% in April last year to profit from the wild price swings in the oil market caused by the pandemic, the company’s CEO said.

As government-ordered lockdowns destroyed about a quarter of normal oil demand, Trafigura secured as many oil tanker ships as it could to store the excess, Jeremy Weir, Trafigura’s chairman and chief executive officer said at the Future Investment Initiative conference in Saudi Arabia. “We anticipated the demand destruction so we were able to ensure we were able to move the cargoes and buy the cargoes,” Weir said.

U.S. oil futures briefly plunged below zero in April as monthly contracts expired and holders desperately sought tanks to store the oil. Trafigura didn’t foresee negative prices but “what we did expect to see was an issue around storage and an issue around supply chains,” said Weir.

At one stage last year, the market was so glutted that Trafigura was using everything from giant supertankers to tiny barges to hold barrels, Ben Luckock, the firm’s co-head of oil trading said at the time. The unprecedented volatility proved a boon for traders such as Trafigura, who had access to ships and tanks to fill with crude. They were able to take advantage of a market structure known as contango that allowed them to sell forward futures contracts to lock in profits and deliver the oil later at higher prices.

Trafigura posted its best ever trading profits in its fiscal 2020 year, which runs to the end of September. It earned a record $5.3 billion in gross profit from oil trading, a threefold surge from the year before. April, when oil prices went negative, was the busiest in the closely held company’s 27-year history even as most employees were working from home, Weir said.

“It really was an extraordinary time,” he said.

I am having issues with screenshots not being able to open up on all my Apple devices once I post.. so this week I have been trying to figure out WTF is wrong. There are 38% more shares shorted in GME than there are actual physical shares in existence. This is an unsustainable situation if the stock price goes up.

What this means is that people that are short GME have to buy shares to cover their short positions. But the problem is there are too many short positions out there, and these fat fucking greedy ass pigs are going to be walking over eachother's skulls to cover their positions.

They are required to cover their positions, otherwise the brokerage, banks, etc are forced to cover.

At that moment the price will jump, and could go as high as into the multi-thousands.

This is why the current $230 price is NOTHING.

The short squeeze has not happened yet. You are looking at a bunch of shitty evil people all literally TRAPPED in a trade they cannot get out of.

House GOP Calls on UPenn to Turn Over Records on Biden Center and China Funding

Top Republicans on three House investigative committees are demanding that the University of Pennsylvania release funding records on the school’s Penn Biden Center, a policy institute launched by President Joe Biden in 2017.

In a letter sent Thursday to University of Pennsylvania president Amy Gutmann, the lawmakers also asked for records related to the recent surge in donations to the university from China as well as information on any contracts and agreements between Penn and the Chinese government.

The university has received over $72 million from China since the Penn Biden Center opened—up from $21 million in the same time frame prior—prompting questions from watchdog groups and lawmakers about whether the uptick had any relation to the center.

"Understanding whether the University of Pennsylvania’s Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement (Biden Center) received funds from China or other adversarial nations at the behest of the Biden family or future Biden Administration officials will shed light on the depth and breadth of the potential improper influence these nations enjoy over the Biden family," said the letter from House Committee on Oversight and Reform ranking member James Comer (R., Ky.), House Committee on the Judiciary ranking member Jim Jordan (R., Ohio), and the House Committee on Education and Labor ranking member Virginia Foxx (R., N.C.).

The lawmakers also said they are concerned about China's efforts to influence U.S. academics. The Penn Biden Center, which was run by Biden’s secretary of state Antony Blinken and employed other Biden aides, has declined to disclose details about its funding.

The representatives asked Gutmann to provide the committees with "[a]ll unredacted records of gifts from, contracts or agreements with, and restricted or conditional gifts from or contracts with the Chinese government, the Communist Party of China, or any affiliated organizations, any Chinese national, or any businesses primarily located in China, for the period of January 1, 2013, to the present."

They also requested "[a]ll information, documents, and communications between and among the University of Pennsylvania, any of its current or former employees or affiliates, and any of the parties included in request 1," including communications with Biden, Blinken, and university administrators who oversee the global initiatives department that houses the Penn Biden Center.

The University of Pennsylvania has denied that there is a connection between its increase in funding from China and the Penn Biden Center.

SAC Capital Plea Deal Ends Long Wall Street Saga

Multibillion-dollar hedge fund SAC Capital was sentenced on Thursday for its central role in one of the most wide-ranging insider trading schemes in U.S. history. A federal judge in New York accepted the firm’s guilty plea and approved a landmark $1.8 billion settlement with the government, effectively concluding a decade-long criminal investigation.

In approving the settlement, U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain paved the way for SAC Capital to continue to do business under a new name as a so-called “family office” managing the $9 billion fortune of Steven A. Cohen, the hedge fund’s secretive founder. Earlier this week, SAC Capital formally changed its name to Point72 Asset Management, an apparent nod to the address of the firm’s sprawling trading floor at 72 Cummings Point Road in Stamford, Conn., near Cohen’s 35,000 square-foot mansion.

Cohen, one of the most enigmatic figures in Wall Street history, was long thought to be the ultimate target of the investigation, but he was never charged with a crime. Now that his hedge fund’s guilty plea has been accepted, it appears unlikely that Cohen will ever be personally indicted for his role leading a firm that was “riddled with criminal conduct,” according to federal prosecutors. Cohen does face civil charges from the Securities and Exchange Commission alleging that he failed to supervise his employees, and could ultimately be banned from the securities industry for life.

The SAC Capital investigation was the most high-profile probe in a sweeping insider trading crackdown led by Preet Bharara, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, who has made insider trading one of his signature law enforcement missions. Bharara has secured 79 insider trading convictions or guilty pleas — including eight former SAC employees — without losing a single case. Prince Andrew, Queen Elizabeth’s third child, is mentioned in evidence offered by Andrew Figuero, the ex-boyfriend of the most prominent Jeffrey Epstein accuser, Virginia Roberts, who shared what he had discussed in private with her during their relationship.

UK royal Prince Andrew appears to be mentioned more than once in newly-unveiled court filings pertaining to Jeffrey Epstein’s former partner, Ghislaine Maxwell. Despite the evidence having been derived from previously sealed sit-downs with the suspected “madam” from 5 years ago, when she was sued for defamation by an alleged Epstein victim, it is likely to be used in the run-up to her trial next summer.

In particular, what holds relevance is arguably the mentioning of the Duke of York, now 60, in the files, and more specifically, in evidence given by Andrew Figueroa, the ex-boyfriend of Virginia Roberts, who testified under oath that she was ordered to have sex with Prince Andrew three times and was routinely abused at the hands of Epstein when she was 17.

The UK royal, who was reportedly forced to quit his senior court duties in the wake of the paedophile-related scandal, has denied claims that he had sex with the minor teenage girl.

Dwelling on his memory of Robert's talking about having sex with the prince, Figueroa replied as cited by the Telegraph:

Reports now suggest that a panel in the Senate will hold a hearing on the “current state of the stock market,” after Congressmen from both parties supported one.

Bloomberg now reports that incoming Senate Banking Chairman, Sherrod Brown, will hold a hearing on the “current state of the stock market,” as ordinary daytraders face off against hedgefunds in a massive short squeeze of GameStop stocks, netting Americans huge profits as shorters face losses of around $70 billion.

“People on Wall Street only care about the rules when they’re the ones getting hurt. American workers have known for years the Wall Street system is broken – they’ve been paying the price,” Brown said in a statment. “It’s time for the SEC and Congress to make the economy work for everyone not just Wall Street,” he added, saying a hearing was very necessary to “do that important work.”

Robinhood, one of America’s most popular free trading platforms, shut down buy orders on GameStop and other “meme stocks” supported by the users of Reddit’s r/WallStreetBets forum, claiming that due to “the recent volatility” they had to only allow “position closing only,” sending many of the stocks in a nosedive. As National File reported:

As a result of their shenanigans, a class action lawsuit has been filed against Robinhood in the Southern District of New York, claiming that Robinhood delisted GameStop from its app and stopped the buying of shares in it and other memestocks “in order to slow the growth of GME… [and was] done purposefully and knowingly to manipulate the market for the benefit of people and financial institutions who were not [their] customers.”

Accusations had already been flying of collusion and corruption between Robinhood and Wall Street, with some users highlighting that Robinhood’s “primary revenue stream” last year was from selling orders to hedgefunds like Citadel Securities. Citadel bailed out Melvin Capital, the hedgefund that took the biggest hit from their attempt to short GameStop.

Congressmen from across the political spectrum had been calling for a hearing into Robinhood’s behaviour before Brown’s announcement. In a tweet, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez described the situation as “unacceptable,” and saying that she would support a Congressional hearing as a member of the Financial Services Committee, to which Senator Ted Cruz said he fully agreed.

Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Dr Paul Gosar also joined in. Tlaib said that the “absurd” situation was tantamount to obvious “market manipulation… to protect Wall St hedge funds,” while Gosar highlighted this was another example of Big Tech colluding with people, in this case Wall Street, “in a clear Securities Exchange Act violation and Sherman-Anti Trust violation.”

It is unclear whether the hearing announced by Brown would cover the actions of Robinhood, although the language in his statement suggests the panel would be far more focused on the actions of the Wall Street firms themselves, rather than the day investors.

Senator Pat Toomey, who is currently tipped to be the top Republican on the Banking Committee, did specifically call out Robinhood and some of the other platforms blocking the trades. “I find it very disturbing that a platform would suddenly freeze out investors,” Toomey said. “People should be free to make the investment decisions they choose.”

On Thursday, Robinhood, an online brokerage firm, blocked retail investors trading GameStop and other stocks – a clear manipulation – in order to stop the bleeding and protect Citadel, a multinational hedge fund with a vested interest in Robinhood.

Citadel and Point72 infused nearly $3 billion into Melvin Capital, a hedge fund that took a beating after betting against GameStop as Reddit traders caused GME to soar.

The word on the street is that Citadel actually reloaded their shorts before they told Robinhood to stop trading GME (GameStop).

It gets juicier…

A person who purports to be a Robinhood employee (unconfirmed) blew the whistle on a conversation that went down with the brokerage firm’s C-Suite, Sequoia Capital (a venture capital firm that focuses on tech) AND THE WHITE HOUSE.

“Vladimir, yes founder Vladimir, and the C-Suite, received calls from Sequoia Capital and the White House that pressured into closing trading on GME etc. I guarantee you the same took place at E-trade and the others who closed trading,” the anonymous Robinhood employee posted to Reddit.
