I've got a gouf custom, Rozen Zulu, and a zaku IIF2 to snap build. I have my other zaku IIF2(pictured in the OP actually) pickling so I can later get that paint off and try again(I have an airbrush now so hopefully I won't muck it up as bad). I need an extra shield for the Waff sniper joe conversion and it looks like I'll need to order another kit to get it so that project will have to wait.
I got all the tools for kit painting but so far I've just done a lot of snap building so it may be time to start going back and giving my kits the proper treatment.

Repost from previous thread
Okay, could someone explain why pics 2 and 3 look so much different in terms of reflectivity? I used the same paint, topcoat, and thinned the top coat the same, and applied it using the same airbrush in similar application and conditions and yet they turned out different. Could there be any reason for this? Besides shit luck that is. Also rate the rest of it. I know the yellow parts are pretty poorly painted, especially the attempts to fill in the black areas, but my masking skills are not the greatest. Also the decals could have been applied better (and I completely forgot about the concept of mark setter).

while I agree the Super Famicom ground type is the weakest of this group of customs (opting for painted on buttons rather than sculpted like the rest of them) I will say the RX-78 Famicom does look much cleaner (aside from the text) with custom molded details on the shield and accuracy to console details.
The Genesis/Megadrive hi-mock has slightly cleaner text and more custom sculpted bits on the forearms than any of the others in this group. The Game Boy Balls have he cleanest, text (though that's not saying much) custom molded buttons and power light, clean details, even custom screenshots used in the screen/window for extra effect.
probably the best overall is the Saturn Kampfer. very clean paint, no text, custom molded details on the forearms, the disk chain mines are a little sloppy but I can slightly overlook that as it's probably just meant to be "generic Saturn disks" rather than specific games.and to that end it works.
overall I give these a 6/10, the custom sculpted detailing and attempt for accuracy to the consoles are what I liked about these. these probably wouldn't win any competition by a long shot without, like you said, custom water slides or masking/spray paint stencils for the text to make the text look much cleaner and crisper but if these were done just for personal enjoyment of doing it then these are passable for a personal collection.

The neck had a ball joint that fit just perfectly in the Hyakuri's neck socket and the bazooka even fit snugly into the backpack with no need for filing/cutting, but I will fix it down properly when it's painted, probably via rods through the little expansion slots in the top of the backpack.

I fucking sorted by reply count instead of bump. Fuck.Anyways, this is not related to gunpla but more towards using paints on different surfaces. Would repainting this metal piece with clear coat red retain the metallic feel? I got an airbrush so figured why not but I don't know wether spraying some Tamiya Clear Red would get rid of it's metallic feel.
Also, what paint is good for spraying metal parts in general like aftermarket parts for plamo? I know Hotwheel hobbyist use a different type of paint to retain their metallic feel but what is it actually? It's not acryllic right since it would create a more plastic-y feel?

Did a rough draft of what it's gonna look like.
The main body is a HG RGM-79 that's gonna get plaplated to hell and back (if anyone can suggest a better base kit, please do).
Head is from the Graze Custom with some shit chopped off and will probably add other detail shit on.
Feet are modified from the ugly-ass Galbaldy Rebake.
The shoulder will either be a zaku shield or I'll just plaplate it.
As for the cannon, it's based on a King Tiger, so I will have to see if I'm willing to pay out the ass for a kit just to use the gun for the kitbash.

The reasons people are laugh at your kits are
>Straight built, didn't paint or even remove seam lines
>Couldn't be bothered to line or wash half the kits
>Your idea of a "build" is just slapping build fighters weapons on straight built kits
>You weathered that Hi-Mock with a gundam marker
>You suck at posing

Actually I did, which is why I chose the Shiroi Tsubasa pic for the last post.

I'm against seam wielding if only because:
>Your idea of a "build" is just slapping build fighters weapons on straight built kits
It locks kits together, making them even harder to kitbash with later,
>Just don't be surprised when you post lazy shit and people mock you for it.

If you're going to enter a group build, a minimum level of effort is expected, which means a finished product and not something you just snapped together with a vague notion of kitbashing later.

Making the Gaplant's shoulders fit onto the Hazel's backpack and then mounting the psyco's arms on the shoulders probably won't be too challenging, but what will be is modding the Hazel's torso with plaplate because the base suit of that pic is the Hazel Owsla which there isn't a kit of because Bandai hates AoZ.

So I've been wondering. Is there a way to mold clear pieces like you do with regular pieces using bluestuff? My problem is that almost all kits have this colored visor sith them and rarely do they have a uncolored see through visor. I don't like having to paint my visors another color.
An example is the Jegan, if I want to scratch build the ECOAS version while keeping the transparent visor transparent, it would look way off. It pisses me off so much.

Been really enjoying the getter super minipla, and I'm pretty excited for Shin 2&3 this summer. From what I've seen thus far, they're the nicest looking (in terms of sculpt) and will probably be the most complete set of the 3 most popular/ well known getter teams. Unfortunately 4 of the 9 (or 10 if you include Black) are p-bandai, so if you don't know a source, can't stomach the price or both, that can be a real kick in the nuts. Also, you'll probably need to know your way around a paintbrush for Black Getter and Shin G1, since their more intricate faces means they suffer the most from QC issues, Shin G1's sticker sheet doesn't cover all of the missing details, and Black's gold parts come as an ill fitting orangey-yellow out of the box. Also, a bit of an issue for me is that all of the Getter 1s (1/D/S1) have disappointing ankle articulation that mars their otherwise well-rounded poseability. Luckily the ankle/foot assembly is dead simple and is thus easy to modify for more articulation. I'm particularly proud of Shin Getter 1's face, which I had to repaint. I'd take close ups but I only have a shit phone camera at the moment.

Anon, how long have you been living under that rock? Bandai Hobby's kits have gotten to the point where people will bitch about having to paint anything on a kit that isn't an HG. In fact the only way I think Bandai can go later down the line is to somehow have kits already panel lined OOB. That way people can bitch about how old Bandai kits suck cause those need panel lining.

I'd love to get into Super Minipla in general, but the only "local" place I know that carries kits in the line is Barnes & Noble, and they charge out the ass for those kits. That, and I'm honestly not too keen on buying candy toys that don't have any candy packed in their boxes.

Alright some better photos and a close up. The work I did for Shin G1's face looks pretty great in real life, but the photo shows every minute flaw (which is why I reduced the image size to 25%), however it's definitely better than the OOB face paint which looked like the eyes were melting out of their sockets. Most OOB Shin G1's tend to have oversized pupils though, which you can see in the image of a stock build.

Super Minpla are actually pricier than normal bandai hobby kits and that comes down to a few things. In no particular order: the kits aren't manufactured in bandai's japanese factories, but in china instead; the kits aren't distributed in nearly the same extent as normal bandai kits; licensing may also be an issue too. For instance, the jap release of Voltron is 40 to 45 usd before shipping, but the B&N listing is 63 usd, so the B&N price is just the jap price + EMS shipping. The upcoming Genesic GaoGaiGar (that I wish I preordered sooner) is 65 to 70 usd, but is only going to be between an HG Crossbone and HG RX-78 in height, taller if you count the "hair" as part of the height. Really, the way I see it is that the bandai minipla are more in line with the kits of other manufacturers, in terms of not being totally convenient to put together (there's some awkward sprue placement, and parts fit can be an issue for instance), and being quite pricey. And also some aspects, like poseability, are actually still outright better than other manufacturers.

Here's an even better image of an OOB Shin G1 face, and a particularly bad Black G1 face. Luckily the factory paint can be easily removed with 91+% alcohol and some scratching for repainting, and they even include a second face for the vol.2 releases if you fuck up the first face (like I did). And the third pic is just cool little basic diorama.

There's no point spending an extra hour a week editing videos and having to deal with staying on camera if no ones going to watch it.
I enjoy making tutorials but it's not something to do for no audience.

I'm going to build models either way and I quite like the idea of getting some paypigs to fund me building expensive kits for videos. If I could get the piggies I could be building Neo Zeongs.

[spoilers]The only SJWism at all is one of the characters comes out as asexual or gay. But that could be taken in many ways and is plot relevant. The bitch's sectary says he can't love women and he has no place to return to. So he sticks by her side and supports her in everything.
Only poz I can see in the movie.[/spoilers]
