Front Mission Dog Life & Dog Style never got a finished translation so I'm going to see if I can have someone translate it. I just found the manga on Mandarake so I'm going provide the raws myself but I still need to find a translator. I'm a newbie to type setting but it's never too late to learn to do it myself if necessary. Last volume translated seems to be Volume 5 out of 10.

So, is this thread for scanlation only, or is fansubbing okay?
I am probably the only one in my state to have all four complete Japanese box sets of the 2003 Astro Boy series. The episodes all have Japanese subtitle tracks, so someone good at manga dialogue shouldn't have any problem. The OP/ED and extras don't have JP subs, though. This series has never had a good translation done, with the Korean-made English subs being lazy about kanji readings and stopping at Ep 24, the Chinese-made English subs being absolute trash in general and the official American translation being a low quality, 4:3 cropped, dub-only slash-and-burn rewrite. Sub groups seem to have dropped it after only a few LQ releases. I bought these specifically to create a fansub, but real life kills my ability to learn Japanese.
The video quality is admittedly quite disappointing, with bad telecine, interlace flag set for non-interlaced data (easily fixable at least), darkened and washed out colors and artifacting. An HD release was never made, despite the show being broadcast in HD.

I'm scanning a Chaika artbook and I'm trying to figure out what scanning method looks better. 1st image had it scanned at 700dpi with no descreening and sharpening software. Then I downsize it to 350dpi with bicubic (smooth gradients) setting in Photoshop 15. The goal with that is to remove the moise without sacrificing the sharpness. The second image was scanned at 350dpi with a medium sharpness setting and and weak descreening. Some blur is expected but it should get rid of more moise than the first image.
Which method do you think looks better?

Is there a good place to sift through for Japanese raws? Learned of a set of volumated 4koma earlier that I'd gladly typeset for if there's any interest from others to translate, but I'm not sure if they've got full scans somewhere already, and figure that's the place to start anyhow. Depends on what skills you might already have, what you're willing to learn/better yourself at, and what have access to using. Scanning raws, redrawing/stitching, and typesetting don't require knowing Japanese, but have both different requirements for doing a good job and different ways to "cut your teeth". So it's really on you as to where your interests are in the process and what's available to you. Determine that, and then you can get better advice on how to practice.
