Remember then post the most forgettable game of last year.

I’ll go first:

Blair Witch 2019

>walking sim that tries to add the flashlight gimmick from Alan Wake but makes it worse

>the dog is supposed to be some major draw but it’s AI is very basic and it more or less works as a waypoint

>they based the story on the 2016 film instead of the original

>makes the already bad lore worse

>releases completely under the radar with practically no marketing

There was a creature toward the end of the most recent film that looked kind of like this.

I think the people involved with the film said that it wasn't actually the witch but one of the people she captured.

I thought that one of them had been reading too many skinwalker stories.

My Minish Cap cartridge has a small circular indent on the front under the sticker which my other GBA game (Rayman 3) doesn't have. The Game Boy animation also appears without the Nintendo logo and freezes but loads normally with the Nintendo logo and starts the game if I turn the system off and back on.

I have a major issue with female routes in games, but not for reasons retarded left wing sjws would think. My issue is that most are just reskins with no real differences of the social disadvantages/advantages that a girl has or how certain characters would interact with you. What are your thoughts on this subject /v/, do you think an effort should be placed to make a female route different enough to warrant a second playthrough?

Let's talk about games that criticize or shit on societies from which they hail.

>Spec Ops: The Line

Criticizes the way that Americans think of war, thinking of their actions as clear-cut heroics in incredibly gray conflicts, as well as criticizing USA's interventionism.

>Persona 5

Criticizes the idea of Japanese "Saving Face", shitting all over the idea of having to put up pretenses, of singular mistakes tarnishing your entire life, and the Japanese approach towards shaming others and personal reputation as well as the idea of giving respect towards the authorities, prevalent in Japanese culture.

> half-assed attempt to make a "modern day" adaptation of Heart of Darkness

Thats just Apocalypse Now too. They literally had the perfect template to just copy from, but change it from Vietnam in the 60s to The Middle East modern day. The whole thing just comes across as really pretentious and tryhard. At the end of the day, you the player are engaging in this fake war for fun, and then the game just wags its finger at you and tries to make you feel guilty for killing fictional video game characters.

This is something MGS2 did, where the both the in game main character and by extension the player, is manipulated into doing something in a war scenario, much better and less condescending.

I fucking hated seeing this game praised EVERYWHERE when it first came out with people pretending it was this super smart and deep game because it was just Call of Duty: Youre the bad guy.

/m/ here, let's discuss mecha videogames.

So far there are many mecha games that are Japan only such as Gundam Breaker, Super Robot Wars and Border Break. Border Break actually looks like an interesting arcade game among others.

However I'm glad that the West finally has Metal Wolf Chaos.

The best kinds of mecha games are ones with full customization of the mechs and a good multiplayer on top of good single player campaigns.

A special metion goes to the SNES RPG called Slapstick (known as Robotrek in the West).

Anywho, post your favorite /m/echa games.

Around the time Smash came out in 1999, Capcom, who had been busy making tons of great fighters at the time, had put out another little fighting game for the arcades that took on a novel concept. A simple-to-control 3D platforming fighting game with items and interactive arenas.

The game was called Power Stone, and it was beautiful.

A varied and fun roster of wild characters. A control scheme so simple to pick up that literally anyone could jump in. A totally unique fighter that we've never seen the like of to this day. A unique gimmick, collecting three power stones to gain a super form and be able to really wreck shit. Gameplay that is just pure unfiltered fighting game fun.

Why did this game have to die, anons? Why couldn't we be playing this instead of Smash Ultimate? I miss this game so horribly. I'm dying to play it again, I want to play it online, with more people, who love it as much as I do. I have original copies of both games, which I'm thankful to have gotten before the price scalpers skyrocketed their prices to obscene levels.

Why can't we have a new Power Stone?

Aside from that, the main retardation was Sega of Japan trusting Sega of America to do anything right.

Sega of America's push for the Game Gear, Sega CD, 32x and for the almost complete removal of japanese style games for the Saturn (Bernie Stolar being the main responsible for that) made the western consumers avoid Sega's products. After Sega lost a lot of money, Sega of America (again, leaded by Bernie Stolar) convinced Sega of Japan to push the Dreamcast out in all markets earlier than Japan was ready to, and in doing that, not only they pissed off the japanese consumers (as the Saturn was a success in Japan, and gamers over there didn't want a new and expensive console yet) but they also pissed off western gamers by announcing that "the Saturn is not our future" (again, quote by Bernie Stolar), which made everyone lost trust in anything done by Sega, for fear of having no support after a short time period.

Remeber that Game Gear, Sega CD, Sega 32x and Sega Saturn ALL were abandoned by Sega of America in a short time.

In short: Sega of America killed Sega's console division.

Power Stone was just one of it's many victims.

>America had the 9-9-99 launch event with a substantial launch line-up and broke sales records

Sales records for the console, but not the games.

Also, with almost no third party games in the beginning, the console had too few games to fill the gap between major releases. Some people started refunding the DreamPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

>Sega of America's push for the Game Gear, Sega CD

NONE of those were "pushed" by SoA. They were SoJ developed products that SoA just brought over because they figured they could capitalize on the Genesis' success. Game Gear was a modest, brief success for a hot minute but ultimately steadily got steamrolled by the Gameboy as people realized battery life mattered more than processing power. Sega CD was a failure but still had at least a couple of dozen worthwhile games. The initial price point for it was not encouraging.

>32X

Niggers keep forgetting that was the fault of both SoJ and SoA. Japan wanted a stop-gap release between Gen and Saturn, and it was America's idea to release an add-on to bridge that gap. There was actually a considerable amount of hype for the machine, it wasn't until mid 1995 that people saw how inefficient it was at doing both polygons and bitmap graphics that it wasn't worth putting games on it.

>Stollar

Everyone knows Bernie was a retard, you're not the first to point this out.

>Game Gear, Sega CD, Sega 32x

Wrong nigger

It's been confirmed Japan was solely responsible for killing off all non-Saturn products in 1996, despite the Genesis was still selling well and even the Master System was still selling in the UK and Brazil as a budget system.

>Sales records for the console, but not the games.

Nigger what? If the console sold well, then the launch games, especially the heavily marketed ones like Soul Calibur, SA, and NFL 2K, we're going to sell as well, would as well.

>with almost no third party games in the beginning, the console had too few games to fill the gap between major releases.

Fucking horseshit nigger, look at the release of games from late 1999 and all of 2000, Dreamcast had tons of support from the likes of Capcom, Ubisoft, Acclaim, Midway, Activision, Infogrames, Rockstar, Konami, etc. You're confusing it with the Saturn.

Loved 1. Never picked up 2. Heard it wasn't as good despite having 4 player melee. In 1 lot of the characters were pretty great, though once you unlocked Valgas there was hardly any point in picking anyone else. Really enjoyed playing it against friends. Falcon, Jack, Wang-Tang, and Kraken were all great. Awesome casual fighting game. I know it had a release on PSP. No idea how good of a port it was.

I'd say it deserves another entry, but with modern Capcom it is more accurate to say it deserves to be left alone and not be ruined.

Then you don't want to host, you want to pay someone else to do the hosting for you.

If you have enough bitcoin to pay for hosting but are still a NEET that lives with your parents, you have bigger problems to solve instead of wasting time and money in hosting a game server.

In any case, you can pretty much just google hosting services that accept bitcoin. Pic related, it ain't that hard.

If I had to take a guess:

>big scandal about DNS being corporate pawns blows up 2-3 years ago

>lots of people try to counter it with openDNS

>requires you to configure your router for it

>open-source folks and linux enthusiasts do it without issues

>script-kiddies and arch-linux wannabees fuck up the DNS configuration in the router

>Dad is angry he can't watch soccer, mom is angry she can't text her friends

>they ask Tech-Uncle to lockdown the router

>"Yeah, kids these days like to mess with stuff, don't they?"

When I lived with my parents, I didn't touch the router precisely to avoid doing this. I did it to mine after moving out though. But a lot of people fucked up their routers doing shit like this, and NEET's got especially fucked.

Either that or some piracy shit. Or he forwarded all ports to his computer like a dumbass, not realizing he'd fuck up the internet for everyone else.

Or dad put a timer on the router, and he only gets net 5-6 hours a day (mine did, but it was mac-adress limited, so a VM took care of that).

And endless number of things might have happened, but everything points to "I'm underaged, pissed of my parents because I messed with their router without knowing jackshit".

OP, CompSci isn't as big a meme as people make it out to be. You'd atleast walk out with a degree, and the know how to not fuck with your boomer parents house. AND you'd be able to run a server from your house (like I do) instead of renting one like a dumbass.

<We recently reported this on the Compile Heart Twitter account, but our new title will be announced in the March 28-due issue of Dengeki PlayStation, which will end its regular publication."

<"I thought, “Why not reach our finales together?” and took the leap to make this the “final entry.”

Gaym came out today and the ending leaked, proving how much of a fucking joke Volvo has become

>Much of Alyx’s story sees the titular character trying to reach the Vault, a floating behemoth hovering above City 17, kept airborne by a set of massive cables surrounding it. Alyx’s father, Eli, discovers that the Combine are keeping something inside the Vault. At first they suspect it’s a superweapon. Then Alyx learns (via a nod to future games) it is in fact, a living being. Everyone immediately assumes it’s Gordon Freeman, the protagonist of Half-Life and Half-Life 2. Thus they set off to save him.

>Alyx decouples the cables powering the Vault (with the help of some friendly Vortigaunts) and a backup power generator. The Vault promptly crashes and Alyx is able to get onboard. There she initially discovers a surreal facsimile of different buildings, presumably within City 17, following a ghostly figure.

>Once Alyx passes through this area and makes quick work of some final Combine soldiers, she gets to Gordon’s containment cell. Only upon opening it does she discover that it’s not Gordon at all; the Combine have actually captured G-Man, the mysterious supernatural figure that stalks Gordon in past Half-Life games, still fitted with his iconic blue business suit and black briefcase.

>In return for his release, G-Man grants Alyx one favor. She immediately requests getting the Combine off of Earth but G-Man declines, reasoning that that is too big of a push. Instead, he has another idea…

>Suddenly, Alyx is subject to an out-of-body experience and time travels to end of Half-Life 2: Episode 2. In that infamous cliffhanger from 2007, Gordon and Alyx are about to set out on a new mission when a Combine attack kills her father, leaving Alyx cradling him in her arms. Only now, G-Man reverses the scene just a few moments, giving Alyx a chance to kill the Combine. Eli picks himself up, alive and well, but is clearly in search of something.

>Alyx prepares to leave but G-Man informs her that, in return for this favor, she now works for him. The game transitions to the credits with a nod to Half-Life 1’s ending, leaving you with your jaw on the floor and plenty of questions you don’t think will be answered in the Half-Life: AlyxPost too long. Played both Boneworks and Half-Life Alyx. Finished Boneworks twice and I am on my second playthrough of Half-Life Alyx. I must say Boneworks definitely did the basic VR gameplay and interaction design much better. Note that I said design. There are some flaws in the implementation. Half-Life Alyx then does the implementation very well. As in everything feels very polished and intuitive but it really sucks you can't melee any enemies, climb any obstacles and are forced to move at a snail pace when using sliding movement. I enjoyed my first playthrough of Half-Life Alyx way more than my first playthrough of Boneworks and I enjoyed my second playthrough of Boneworks more than I am enjoying my second playthrough of Half-Life Alyx. It is weird.

>Nightdive Studios Is Dedicated to Delivering the System Shock Remake Everyone Wanted

<“I say this all the time: The longest journey in gaming starts with the words, ‘Hey, you know what else would be cool?’”

>When it launched on Kickstarter back in 2016, it was sold as a faithful remake of the 1994 cult classic that pitted a player against the rogue AI, Shodan. When Nightdive started the project, that was exactly what they intended to make. Today, that’s again what they intend to make.

>For a while in the middle, though, Nightdive Studios lost sight of this goal. It seems clear that the developers had nothing but the best intentions, but the $1.3 million they made off their crowdfunding campaign… kind of messed with their heads.

<“With the massive success that we experienced on Kickstarter, we did have the opportunity to increase the scope of the game,” said Stephen Kick, Nightdive’s CEO. “That’s what led to that initial departure of the original style that we had developed and used to promote the Kickstarter campaign.”

>More money meant that Nightdive could do more with the project. So, the developers took the opportunity to expand on the game in some ways, streamline it in others, and try their hand at evoking the spirit of System Shock without being hamstrung by the limitations of early ‘90s game design.

<“You get influenced by the last game that you played that had this really cool feature — and wouldn’t it be great to add it to the one you’re making?” Kuperman explained.

>The game’s backers didn’t see it that way. They didn’t back the Kickstarter because they wanted a new game with new features, new weapons, or new, well… anything, really. What they wanted was System Shock. They wanted the landmark 1994 immersive sim recreated faithfully with modern graphics and controls.

No it wasn\t even for the time. Especially the gameplay, if you can call it so. Hell, Doom already existed. SS sported most awkward controls anybody ever seen.

I guess people liked it because it tried to be a lot of things and had a "potential" since it was a shooter with elements from other genres. I guess this was necessary step before SS2, but in now way a good game.

Graphics wasn't great, but a last of it's problems. And you can still play it without remaking.

If people weren't retarded they would ask for 2 new SS games instead of remaking this abomination from 1990s 2 times. But what can you expect from the kickstarter herd?

Any games that have a comfy atmosphere or just something you do in a game that personally gives you a comfy feeling. I've been playing pic-related recently and it's pretty relaxing. In the game you grab onto giant plants that grow real long towards the sky. You could just go around and explore and glide around the map too. Some other comfy things I do in games is drive normal in GTA 5 in first-person with the settings set to night and raining, and playing pool in Yakuza 0 is pretty comfy.

Comfy games?

Rune Factory 4 fixed a lot of the problems in previous titles, and is remarkably engaging with a lot of replayability.

Sim City 4. With simple mods like elevated rail lines and the like, it's amazing what can be accomplished. I personally believe that this game should be part of the core competencies of civil engineers; because holy shit, there's so much practical knowledge that can be learned here.

Dragon's Crown. Exquisite experience. Beautiful artwork, and even after you learn the patterns of the enemies, it still remains remarkably difficult in the higher levels.

When it comes to fonts, I ended up with one called Bitstream Vera Serif or something like that, Waterfox just set it as a default but it looks really nice, actually better than on Windows. When it comes to stuff like fonts and video/image codecs I just install everything I can find once and then I never have to worry about it again. It's a bloated approach but it's better than stumbling over some missing library or font when you least expect it.

The Turok Rage Wars shotgun because for its secondary fire, you pump it like a Super Soaker. Its satisfying if you then kill an enemy with that.

The rifle in The Last of Us, because once your aiming is good, every gory headshot is satisfying, especially because you don't waste ammo.

Any weapon that has a delay (when you have to hold the trigger, and it takes some time to charge and then shoot). Often in combination with see through walls mechanics.

The Omen from GoldenEye Rogue Agent (a game noone played). The Omen is a rifle that fires in 3 energy bursts, but then it takes 2 seconds until the next shot, so you have to duck and cover. When you hit an enemy, he gets pulverized and disappears.

The BFG from Quake 3, because the projectiles looked powerful, and sometimes enemies exploded, sometimes they were spectacularly knocked over.

The Insta-Gib rifle from UT2004, because once you manage a longer killstreak without dying, you feel boss. Each hit makes enemies explode into meat chunks.

For some reason, while DOOM 2016 is a great game, I found none of the weapons satisfying. Maybe Berserk, but that doesn't count.

MINIMALISMFAGS NOT WELCOME

This is a thread for the shameless appreciation of all flashy shit, from animations, to (usually ultimate) attacks, to character and weapon designs, to stories, general concepts and dialogue in vidya. Doesn't have to be over-the-top but that's a big bonus.

I love seeing this shit in vidya. Often it pumps me up and gets the adrenaline rushing.

Some random examples I loved to start the thread off.

>final weapon crit animations in Fire Emblem

Hector's Armads was my favorite. Dude spins a massive great axe in the air with a single hand, lets it smash unto the ground just to show off the fucking weight of it, leaps into the fucking sky like an eagle and slams it down on the poor faggot on the receiving end of it before pulling it back and switching it off to his other arm with a simple flick of the wrist.

>Nep Rebirth EXE drives (extra brilliant because of the music that plays that's like sex to the ears)

They're just fun and over-the-top. Not all of them are as good as others, but the fact that they're done by very cute vidya girls makes it a strange joy to experience.

>DBZ Budokai 3 ultimates

Much like the nep ones, these are fucking ridiculous.

One in particular that sticks out in my head is Bardock's ultimate. Dude strikes the enemy around, looks into his fist to see the memories of his dead friends, and rushes at the enemy with the spirit of a great ape appearing over him in a flurry of attacks that leads to him punching the enemy into the ground, ending with a shot showing the effect from space on the planet.

>Trails in the Sky 3rd

Just had some brilliant S-crafts that were very gratifying to watch. Much bigger budget on these than the previous games and it shows in a way that's easy on the eyes.

There's also games where you just style on opponents (often juggling them) in a flurrPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

OP, look up Asura's Wrath and the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games.

Both are made by Cyberconnect 2, their entire gimmick as a studio is making stupidly over the top hype as shit animations for QTE sequences and super attacks. Asura's Wrath in particular is a nonstop series escalating dumb-as-shit over the top insane bullshit, it's amazing. Granted, it's more of an interactive anime then a game and the true ending is DLC, but fuck man, it's a trip.

They also made DBZ kakarott but sadly despite DBZ being a perfect fit for them, it lacks their insane animation, but Dragon Ball FighterZ by Arcsystemworks has a lot of good stuff too.

Also, pretty much anything Platinum games makes or Kamiya's other work: Viewtiful Joe, Vanquish, Bayonetta, DMC, and especially Wondful 101. Metal Wolf Chaos is an insane parody of American patriotism which is stupid as fuck and is great.

Also, not games, but check out Gurren Laggan, Symphpogear, G Gundam, and Konjiki no Gash/Gash/Zatch Bell (though that last one only goes balls crazy at the end; oi'd also be happy to send you reading guides and resources for it, since it';s anime adaption is shit and you need to read the manga, but I have translation corrections and lists of the few times the anime IS good, etc), and pretty much anything made by Trigger (Kill la Kill, Promare, etc)

Also heard/seen good shit from Gaogaigar and the Giant Robo OVA

Just look at the Ultimates their previous iteration of Ultimate Ninja games have. You want over the top shit and prediction about attack names some characters would use? Check out Itachi's Izanami technique, summoning black holes to shred your opponents and raze the Earth as an illusion that mindbreaks the enemy about a decade before it even appeared in the manga.

Not sure, reminds me of WET, which came out in 2009, and sequel was announced in the following year, which was cancelled.

Thanks Bethesda.
