It's not like the covers are a accurate depiction of events. It's more of a spoof of some of the events and all the characters are armed with cooking tools.

Taking a dump in a fantasy world toilet
A brave hero must face the most basic of human needs in a world without the comforts of modern day sanitation facilities.
It's a spoof on the modern isekai but hilariously the MC and worldbuilding are better than most "serious" stories of that genre. Roots is a shitposting champion.

Depends on where you draw the line.
>Mammals are descended from mammal-like reptiles, called pelycosaurs, that lived on Earth about 300 million years ago. The first warm-blooded animals—being warm-blooded is a basic feature of all mammals—were probably the cynodonts, which first evolved about 260 million years ago.
>"We can really conclude that the age of placental mammals goes back to over 160 million years ago," study researcher Zhe-Xi Luo, of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh, told LiveScience. "It's an evolutionary milestone for mammal evolution."
Juramaia sinensis, a tree roaming shrew'ish rat
Point is that mammals were eating dino eggs at least during the cretaceous. It was inevitable that they'd overtake cold blooded creatures in the event of an ice age. Also, being insectivores at the time, the proliferation of flowering plants likely magnified there presence as prey became equally more abundant.
In my opinion.
But this is fantasy land, where goblins are born of avarice or come from the moon.

I had an epiphany just recently about this series. The experiencing of reading MiA mirrors the journey and exploration of the Abyss. At the start, we were warned. We were told the world was an unkind place, that children were trained as fodder for the Abyss to seek relics to sell to outside nations we never get to see. Tsukushi even shows us that life for the kids is pretty rough. The message is pretty clear that pursuing the secrets of the Abyss is unpleasant to say the least.
As the story goes along, there's a few incidents where there's very clear warnings to turn back, to return to the surface and not face what waits lower down. You, the reader, will be happier not knowing. The curse, the mimic birds that eat people, the giant worm monsters, the poison from giant precognitive porcupines that tears you apart inside. The entire time we're being told "It gets worse from here." Then we find out about Nanachi and Bonedrewd and learn about what the Abyss does to the bodies and sanity of people. Even Ozen was a pretty clear warning: This place does awful things to people. The strongest ones are hardly even human anymore because of the shit the Abyss puts them through.
The Idofront was the obvious point of no return. Reg and Riko were in all kinds of danger. The indestructible robo-boy was nearly torn apart and driven to a berserk state we've never seen before. Innocence was last. Bonedrewd did not hold back because he was no longer capable of considering the emotions of a child as anything but tools. All that mattered was the Abyss. When you learn what the White Whistles are and how they're made, and the implications that carries, it was very much the "this is what you've really gotten yourself into" moment.
So far, AnCap village and everything we've learned about it has obviously been the peak. If this sort of stuff was in the first few chapters, few people would keep reading. However, because Tsukushi draws the reader in and slowly revealed how fucked up things are, you're in the same situation as Reg and Riko. You know things are going to get worse, but you're in too deeply to turn away. You've seen awful, horrendous things you never could have imagined (rip in piece Irumyuui) when you started reading and the only choice is to quietly accept it and keep going, letting the Abyss pull you deeper.
Oooor... Tsukushi is just a weird lolicon and some twisted fetishes and he's taking us for a wild ride.

I don't know much about the mangaka life. If I had to guess, it'd be that they're working on longer stories that wouldn't make such a tight deadline while they put out some shorter tales in order to not have a hiatus for a month or two. Could be a combination of things as well: Real life issues and celebrations, a little burnout, while working on two separate stories with one being a major tale that spans many pages with lots of technical drawings and lore.

The main problem with Isekai genre is the focus of novelty over having a story with a direction. At one point, not trying to get back home was considered subversive but now it is more common than trying to get back. It makes sense realistically speaking. Traveling to a parallel world is already an impossible feat so traveling back is something more like a long term goal which may or may not be able possible. It is naturally more productive to live out life and find out along the way. However without a long term goal, the story doesn't seem like it has an end. There is also how death is usually used as the catalyst to going to another world making it easier to accept that you can't return.
Another problem is the cheat abilities. A cheat ability is generally there to compensate for the general disadvantage of not being born in that world while keeping the person as an everyman. It is mostly there to externalize the overpower-ness. The opposite side of it is No Game No Life which the cheat ability is basically being main characters. However, it usually just reaches a point where the cheat ability exploit destroy all conflict.

Unless of course the genre itself assblasts you, in which case you can see yourself out. The concept of traveling to a fantasy world to see how you'd fare is something every fa/tg/uy has thought about ever since the inception of tabletops. The current isekai fad has created a glut of fantasy, something /tg/ desperately wants, even if it means putting up with the formulaic modern isekai flaws. Also notice that aside most storytimes in this general thread tend to peter out after a few chapters? That's because most of them are at least mediocre until the godmode power fantasy garbage obliterates an isekai's plot.
Like, sure, every one of these isn't something as good as Twelve Kingdoms, Escaflowne, Those Who Hunt Elves, or Fushigi Yuugi, but digging through all of this has allowed us to uncover some genuinely incredible isekai such as Faraway Paladin, Veterinarian in Another World, Curse Blood, and merely fun but still good stuff such as Ride-On PutinKing or Gyaru Tensei.

The bad part about the isekai trend is that it's so goddamned incestuous that you get many stories that are inspired by other isekai that were inspired by other isekai, and so on, which means you get shit that is entirely focused on aping from a very narrow pool of narrative elements. The good part is because there is such a huge amount of these stories being made that you can occasionally get one that is tightly focused on telling a good story that features isekai elements, instead of telling an isekai story that has a few good ideas.

I'm half-memeing, I don't have a problem with the concept of isekai itself, but this middle aged man thing for instance is the same hot garbage that every shitty isekai is. The only difference is that the MC is older, and that's not even a little original either.
That said I do realize that it's not technically an isekai because he was born in that world, but it's using the same shitty formula. Something happens to MC oh woe is me, but fear not he actually has/gains super cheat-like powers that make everything trivial, also cute girl(s) inexplicably rain from the sky and take a liking to him right after he starts his journey!
I guess it's for that reason that the best isekai tend to be those that are deliberately exaggerated like Ride-on King, or those that are primary humor-based like Kemono Michi.

Eh, I could stop posting the middle aged man one. I liked it because it's not a reset by running away from your problems and having a whole new world pf people to suck MC's overpowered dick. This one is more about appreciating the things you have, finding alternative goals when your plans go wrong, and finding something worth living for when you feel your life has no meaning. Personally it sorta resonated, and I figured I wasn't the only person here who's had their life take a turn from your intended path, and how to pick up the pieces and move on. Admittedly, I have every intention of abandoning the series if it devolves into "I'm gonna fuck this loli right after I kill the only party in the world who can equal my massive OP powers". Seems like that wouldn't be the case though, with the somewhat decent writing and art.

It could be decent if it leans more towards "adventuring with daughteru" and less towards "various ways of using my newly found superpowers to strut my superiority, with cute girl latched onto me".

Probably the biggest dividing line I've noticed is whether something is just fantasy with an isekai premise, or (isekai and otherwise) explicitly uses vidya mechanics. I can't think of any tonally serious fantasy manga using vidya mechanics that were good, let alone great like, for instance, Erfworld before it petered out due to IRL circumstances.

If there where one word Id describe modern Isekai, it would be carnal. There is something animalistic about how there is a demand for satiation. Things don't feel lustful so much as gluttonous.
Most entertainment is escapism in some format, but Isekai borders on delusion.
I mean, one important thing about Isekai that does it well is the return. What the protagonist learns from this visit to another world. How they better themselves.
Even if they stay, it's usually a reversal where first they wanted to escape responsibility, but then decide to embrace it.
I mean John Carter of Mars is something much like Japanese Isekai, but there is more tension and more willingness to challenge the protagonist.

The reasoning that you had to dismiss the idea that she was a half-elf was extremely flawed and nonsensical. There isn't any concrete proof of Marcille being a half-elf because it hasn't been addressed in the story. It could be that she is a half-elf or "papa" was her stepdad and her deadbeat elf dad wasn't around to raise her. The author chose not to address it yet because there isn't a good reason to bring it up. Laius could ask but that would be rude. Maybe when they get closer in a contrived "love boat" situation.

This. You also have these fags rush through the introduction with the MC very quick to accept what has happened. It is like that faggot who gave Roger Ebert the game Braid which relies on the premise of "Mario but..." to prove video games are art.

I think the openly overpowered MC was a response to the shoddy attempt to make an underdog ability. I remember how "The Law of Ueki" wouldn't shut up about how weak his ability to change trash to trees is constantly reminding us that it is the "weakest power" ignoring that someone has the power to turn photos to toys or drawings to voices.

And my issue with it is rather than trying to articulate it, people generally dismiss it as some magic spark. It feels like an easy way out.
I don't hate every aspect of things that I considered bad. I think that Bioshock is a shit game but I really liked the look and setting. I absolutely hate DBS but I found the idea that Bulma gave Goku a yet-to-be-released hover truck to "help him work harder" amusing because Goku's and Bulma's relationship feels the most genuine to me. The same thing with the scene of Goku offering Bulma a gift when he realized that she was pregnant. The almost brother-sister relationship that they have also shows that even the writers don't believe the lies used by the fans to justify Goku's behavior.
Yes, guilt implies shame although it feels like we are living in a post-shame society but people call things like a Chocolate Fondue a guilty pleasure because it is bad for you not because of its taste. Some people can call something a guilty pleasure because it isn't intellectually stimulating. This isn't a problem when people aren't being retarded but generally the type of people that uses these words don't explain what they mean. Then you have the people that claim that the "smart" moments of No Game No Life weren't meant to be taken seriously because it is satire or parody. A satire or parody of what? I'll never know.

You see, if the guy said it was good, or that he liked it because it was good then I would have a problem with it - the story was sloppy, but the biggest offender was how utterly crap the games were won, and that process wasn't good, that was cringeworthy.
The series had potential with worldbuilding, visuals, delicious incest, fanservice, the girls.

Generally western isekais take you to space, send you to a 'parallel society' or send you back in time. Back to the Future, Stargate, vampire romance novels. Everything is much the same amenities wise, save something fantastic about the peoples.
Hell, Harry Potter is an isekai. Orphan normal child gets whisked away to magic land just out of sight from reality.
The difference from east and west is publishing. While the west demands a filter, the East is entirely by popularity. Almost like an oral tradition going on by that method, thus we have the truck god that usually sends them on their way.

The thing is those two things are two completely different opinions. You are also ignoring the possibility that some people who are perfectly aware of the flaws of the show but refuse to admit that they were wrong. I heard a lot about people who enjoyed Star Wars: TFA the first time that they watched it but disliked it the second or third time. A lot of it has to do with hype but that isn't the only reason. This sometimes leads to someone who is aware of the flaws of the movie yet desperately clings to the emotional impact that they had when they first watched it. It can be some kind of delusion used to not admit that they were wrong or were tricked.
A guilty pleasure isn't necessarily admission of it being crap. Porn is a guilty pleasure but there exists good and bad quality porn.

I keep reading here and there of people trying to mention all the western isekais, regardless of age so lets make a stupid list that someone can then screencap and we can stop regurgitating bits and pieces that come to mind, and just post the whole damn listing.
Rules: Don't list shit that isn't an isekai, even if it does technically follow the same formatting. Everything could be considered one in such a case. Hell, starwars would be an isekai if you wanted to argue the formatting was there. Just because the story revolves around an everyman character that's oblivious of the setting so you get the explanation of things through them, doesn't make it a "self insert MC isekai".
A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court
A Kid in King Arthur's Court (awful)
Alice in Wonderland
The Last Starfighter
Never Ending Story
Little Nemo
Time Bandits
The Matrix (very borderline, probably not considered)
The Pagemaster
The Flight of Dragons
Dungeons and Dragons (cartoon)
King Arthur and The Knights of Justice
Black Knight
Zathura
Flight of The Navigator
Tron
I'm not sure if time travel would be considered isekai'd, as I can't think of any isekais that state it's time travel, and not just "fantasy world that mirrors historic europe". Oh, then the earliest example would arguably be either John Carter (astral projection) or Narnia (a series-end revelation that made Phillip Pullman so buttmad, he wrote his own spin on it).

Princess of Mars (and related books)
Tarnsman of Gore (and related books)
At the Earths Core (and related books)
The Ship of Ishtar
Three Hearts and Three Lions
The High Crusade
Narnia Books
The Worm Ouraboros (might not count since the transported character is the narrator rather than a character in the story)
The Cave Girl (might not count as the protagonist is only shipwrecked on a savage island rather than on another world all-together but this one I particularly recommend as it's about as isekai as isekai gets)
HP Lovecrafts Dreamlands stories
Armegeddon 2419 (might not count because the protagonist is in suspended animation and awakes in the future and is still technically on the same world if not one entirely foreign to him)
Almuric
and that's just off the top of my head and incidently a bibliography of the greatest authors in the english language in the 20th century.

There's some film about a guy going back in time, and joining a group of cavemen. He likes some cavegirl and winds up saving her life by killing a sabertooth or something that had been chasing the tribe, and ends up becoming the leader of the group. He finds gold or something and I think the cavemen start getting obsessed with it. Getting nothing from google on it. Could be a sequel to the original planet of the apes for all I know.

>specifically because the most common case of Isekai involves death+reincarnation
It doesn't make it the only method for isekais though. Plenty involve waking up in another world, being summoned from another world, accidentally voiping there from botched magic, being randomly selected to go there, or in a few cases staying on an mmo past midnight. I think the old western isekai forum was "it was a dream all along", followed later with more popular kids films of "you're the best at this task and we need your skills"
>>415956
I don't understand why you feel the need to write out nip isekais. Those are very apparent, and any manga site will have them all compiled. The western side is merely because lots of people mention them since they typically predate the fad, and show that the concept is nothing new.

I recall that the manga already explained why more people living in/near the dungeon leads to more attacks or the dungeon getting bigger. Was it that the dungeon "has more to eat thus is growing" or "the dungeon acts more violently because of the presence of people"? Another thing. Why hasn't Kabru notice all those people earlier?

I can sympathize with the dwarf even if he was being an asshole. If people depend on the dungeon this much, then it would be really hard to close shop even for a while.

Neither, while it is established that Dungeons responds to people's desires Dungeons grow and expand on their own even without people. If nobody explores the Dungeons then the monsters inside will leave for the surface as the place gets crowded and slaughter everyone in town. Kabru's hometown was different, the people inside the dungeon and the surface turned into monsters themselves.

It also seems like Kabru doesn't fully understand or even know about the Mad Sorcerer and the curse of the dungeon to begin with. He's not acting entirely on bad information, but at the same time, he's being a panicky fool because he experienced a worse case scenario involving something else that was also called a "dungeon" not knowing that the key differences here mean that he's wasting his fucking time trying to prevent the same thing from happening in a different situation.

I think it was explained or strongly implied earlier that all dungeons are based on similar principles of magic, revolving around the ability to cultivate spirits from ambient raw magic, creating an unstable and voracious entity. By Marcille & Farlyn in the fairy cave at school, for instance.

The dungeon deliberately creates bait to lure people inside. Sending monsters out is bad for everyone. The monsters can permanently die, it is harder to gather the "nutrition", and it scares the people away. In that sense, it is best not to think of the dungeon as evil.
Marcille did talk about making a safe dungeon. Think of it as a balanced ecosystem. In that idea situation, the job of adventure should be replaced with gatherer and ranger.

I'm rereading older chapters and nothing implies every Dungeon has complete control over the monsters within, so far the current Dungeon has control over them because it was built by the mad court mage. The town Laius spoke of was abandoned once everything was explored because a new dungeon appeared somewhere else so the monsters were not fended off properly as adventurers abandoned the place and they killed everyone who stayed. Kabru's town was people being turned into monsters instead.

The idea of dungeons as potential ecosystems comes up a few times, but not every dungeon naturally comes into existence as a self-contained ecosystem. They make a point to highlight how the Mad Sorcerer's dungeon is really amazing because so many different lifeforms and creatures have been made to live in balance with one another to support and foster the health of the dungeon. Kabru's dungeon-based trauma is somewhat relevant, since it shows that dungeons can go out of control, but I still don't think it's entirely applicable to this dungeon.

It's also possible thet they are overconfident and they are about to fall for his trap. Maybe some will get killed or the group gets separated. I doubt it will stay that big in either case.

>The setting is 15th century France. A girl named Cerisier, coming from a poor, rural family, sets out to the capital to seek work. On her way there she unexpectedly acquires an oversized sword, the Zweihander. Guided by the girls she met at the capital, she decides to set her sights on becoming a female knight. Everything carries a fresh sense of excitement to her, whether it’s her first glance at weapons and armor, her life in the capital, or the instruction she receives at the Girls Knight Academy. This is the bright, shining life she spends with those sharing the same dream as her!

Stirrups have a weird tendency to make everything look better to me for some reason. Hardened badass fantasy mercenary? Show his pragmatic utilitarianism with riding gear. Sexy leggings? Hold them taut. Paramilitary tacticool? You get a lot further with Nomura-esque belt design when it looks like it serves a serious purpose. Got your waifu tied up? Two strands of your rope material under the arches and tied off between the ankles gives a really cute packaged look.
Badass, sexy, cool, lewd, anything. It's such an oddly specific yet completely repurposable application of visual tension that it takes whatever the topic already was and says "that, but more."

With something like Goblin Slayer I don't think success is necessarily a factor although it certainly needed to not be a failure. Goblin Slayer strikes at the most fundamental element of both fantasy in general and male fantasy in particular - kill the bad guy, save the girl. It's also the perfect amount of edge and autism. The hero isn't edgy, the world is, he's a man reacting to the edginess of his setting not injecting edge into the things he does and in fact on several occasions when it looks llike he's about to go full grimderp he subverts our expectations and does the decent thing instead. He's a hero with a clearly defined goal and purpose, the people who surround him don't just worship how great he is but are actually learning from him and also challenging him to expand and grow himself and in different ways, Dwarf Shamans value to and value gained from Goblin Slayer are different from Elf Rangers are different from the Priestess and the characters actually have dynamic relationships where they like and dislike different things about each-other. It's not high literature rather it's the basic elements of a good story arranged perfectly and in a time where even that much is difficult to come by Goblin Slayer is hard not to like. It would be easy to see why a production studio would look at it and think that even if it isn't going to make them a billion Abeland fun-bucks there is a market there for it. Literally the only people who don't like Goblin Slayer are bandwagoning dramaqueens

Original would be the wrong word. It looks like it's an adaptation of Volume 5 of the LN, which is probably the best choice for a film adaptation (Vol 3 is better paced for a series, Vol4 is filler content, Vol6 is a lot of character development and GS isn't the focus, and Vol7 is elves).

I'd assume it depends more on age than anything else. Perspective on time speeds up for even humans the older you get, I wouldn't be surprised if they ate and slept less often the older they get. I'd assume that Marcille for example is pretty young even by human standards and Senshi was too when he first came there. It also depends a lot on energy usage probably, with dungeon crawling being pretty consuming.

True but it makes sense for longer time frames, like in this case. "A couple of days" would be the same for both, maybe it's 3 days, maybe 7, maybe 11. No big deal. But that's not the case for "a couple of years".
Now think about how long some court cases get dragged out and consider elven perfectionism and life spans.

That makes more sense. Something like 4 years of college isn't a big investment but a week of starvation is still the same hell. It is just I heard that Tolkien Elves are described to perceive one year like one hour. They don't need as much food as humans and they don't sleep but I don't think that that was what he meant.
That would also mean that Elves would also perceive taking a year off work as too long as it is tied to their daily expenses.

>That would also mean that Elves would also perceive taking a year off work as too long as it is tied to their daily expenses.
Yup. And again, in some way that's the same for everyone. An hour isn't that long but being an hour too late for an important meeting is a pretty big deal.

It is basically the same thing as how 10 years can just fly by, in the current moment you don't see time past much but once your mind is off it suddenly half the day is over. You don't literally see time zooming around you, your memory just blends it all together. DnD Elves are actually the most alien to grasp in this way because they have perfect memory and remember the exact moment every time but their mindset is set in years, there is a reason they're likened to trees.

Elfs dont imprison people for life and question them once every few years because they perceive reality this way. They do it because they are colossal cunts. Unless they are retarded and they cant comprehend ideas such as lifespan. They just throw people in prison to rot there.
They are that way in WHFB. They give no fuck about anybody except themselves. Why they help humans? Because if humans die out it will negatively affect them. It said that dwarfs are different to humans, but elfs are completely alien.

This is one of those questions that makes me think: "If I was desperate for those jewtoob bucks, I'd buy/rent a few crash test dummies and test this sorta shit out". Thought of shit like this a few times. The big one is I'd like to have to have some real numbers behind the trauma and damage done to an opponent with various armors v various weapons. All the videos I ever see online of people "testing" armor out, are weak wristed faggots trying to go easy on their 300 dollar steel helmet, or the cold steel gang attacking what looks like probably not historically accurate armor. For once I'd like to see a real historical set of iron armor, real butted chainmail of varying historical patterns, and more exotic shit like lamellar up against swords, clubs, flails, arrows with varying tips, and some polearms. This would be done over the span of a year or two, starting with just various small weapons on unarmored targets, then working up to the big famous armors to get the user base up, so I'm not spending out of pocket for any of that shit. It'd also be fun to see just how hard I could punch/stab/club shit too.

People generally underestimate the effectiveness of a club so you end up with someone killing another guy cause they hit them in the head with full force using a bat thinking they needed to do that thanks to Hollywood. Then he ends up in a coma from a concussion and bleeding internally if he didn't die outright from hitting one of the critical points, even limp wristed manlets can cause this to happen when they don't try to hold back. On the other hand people overestimate a simple club's effectiveness when you move away from the head and upper torso because again Hollywood, even though you'd have to be a limp wristed faggot with hollow bones to get your bone completely broken from one good swing, people think one swing on your limbs is all you need. That is wrong you go for the head or upper torso every time.
>>421887
I'm vaguely aware that there was one big battle with written records. The order of injures from how common they were was head, arms, lower legs, upper legs and torso combined. With the head injuries being overwhelmingly half followed by the arms outpacing the other three. So everyone was literally going for your head first chance they got.

Pretty effective.
In this context, GS recommended it to the kid for killing giant roaches (with exoskeletons about as strong as you'd expect) and giant rats (with skulls about as strong as you'd expect), and he uses them to kill goblins (with skills about as strong as you'd expect). Clubs will bash in a man's head. Against those things, it's more than enough to get consistent kills.

Depends on the size, shape, and material.
But even a wood club like that is pretty fucking brutal since they're really good at amplifying force. The main clinch with them is needing to be hard enough to not be damaged and heavy enough to carry energy. But again even pretty modestly sized ones are hefty and can easily break skulls, maybe arm bones and ribs too.
Adding studs is what they did in the trenches if I recall and all those do is give you a harder and more refined impact. So basically you turn a body slam into a punch but with the same amount of force behind it.
Shit's especially good against armor mostly because it barely gives a shit. That's actually the real draw for blunt weapons, they're reliable. A sword or spear makes it easier to cut flesh which is less effort for more damage but a club or mace is just more effort for less or the same damage but unless you have a lot of padding on you it ain't stopping. Plus you don't have to worry about cutting at the right angle or fancy swings or needing to be precise. It'd be fucking great for goblin slaying in a mass frenzy since one good clonk to the spine, chest, or head and they ain't getting back up.

Why should anybody ever try? At least before the main story starts, other adventurers don't care about him because he only ever takes shitty low reward missions and the forces of evil wouldn't care becuase he never really messes with their plans.

GS is pretty weak, outside of goblins. With better equipment it might be a different story, but as it stands, he's about on par with a mid-rank adventurer. His only real strong-point is that he knows enough shit that as a party leader, he can get a group to hit above their level; against goblins, far above their level. The best case in point being against the Goblin Lord, who might very well have wiped out the entire town (including the Silver Ranks) if it wasn't for GS.

I posted this question because I was thinking why they were often used in WW1. Then I remembered that bayonets are notoriously bad weapons. I'm guessing that only some of them would have shovels and a shovel is basically two-handed weapon. Even a weakshit manlet fuck shit up a shovel. So the war clubs are essentially a sidearm made by resourceful soldiers who want to go medieval stone-age on people's asses. No doubt it is better than nothing but there must be better alternatives? If we are talking about price, no there fucking isn't but couldn't people detach a bayonet from a rifle use that?

His title is literally the Kindest Hero on the Frontier. He has jack-shit for money, and has almost zero reputation before Vol1. After Vol1, anyone who tried to aim for him would deal would immediately pick a fight with Lancer, Guts, Angry Paladin, and his entire party - and that's before considering Sword Maiden or any of the others that come up later.
He went form "a weirdo that nobody knows about except the peasants" to "a weirdo that everybody will stand up for" with one dead Goblin Lord. Not much room for head-hunting.

You are wrong about the shovel and stone age remarks, tranches needed to be dug and they did it by hand so shovels were common. When guys starting bearing down on you while you're in the trench you literally have barely any room to move and there is never just one guy but a dogpile on you and whatever poor bastards with you that have to fight them off. Unmodified bayonets sucked because they were too blunt and too long inside the trenches. They also got stuck in a guy's ribs too much, most action and kills to a bayonet's name in the first World War is killing boars.

So all the peasants he undoubtedly saved/protected over the years count for nothing then? The guild itself must disagree or otherwise he wouldn't be a silver rank. Besides, his reputation growing over the volumes should make him an even more tantalizing prospect for glory hunters, if there were any. And obviously, it would be better to isolate him from his friends before going in for the kill.
>>422018
Why does it need to be personal? There could be any number of reasons to want to kill him, like envy (which the angry manlet touched on even if his actual motivation was just a grudge), thinking he's a soft touch if he only kills the lowest of monsters, the infamy of being the man who killed Goblin Slayer, maybe even just to be evil. The list could go on.

He's either a goblin or mad that there's a series that revolves around killing his favorite race and showing them how they really are. No ones going to go out of their way to kill a guy who slays what most in the story's universe either consider a weak or even non-threatening enemy, or a force that threatens all races (especially their female population). The only thing you'd get out of killing GS is the title of "Dumbass that killed Goblin Slayer, the Kindest Hero of the Frontier", bringing forth a resurgence of goblins pillaging and raping all the poor-defended villages and towns.

>would want to kill a guy who if famous
Yes, exactly. One could try and kill giant worms and other monsters to try and become famous, or one could just kill people who are already famous. Killing humans is simpler, possibly easier and it's a more straightforward reputation transfer.
>Why you obsess with that idea?
I'm not obsessed with it, just saying that a person's motivation could come from anywhere. Not everyone has to be a one-dimensional goody-two-shoes who toes the guild line like a good goy.
>>422055
>a force that threatens all races
Does anyone in-universe actually think that?
>The only thing you'd get out of killing GS is the title of "Dumbass that killed Goblin Slayer, the Kindest Hero of the Frontier", bringing forth a resurgence of goblins pillaging and raping all the poor-defended villages and towns.
I suppose discussing the potential hilarity of all that happening would not be met kindly here, but I will point out that GS didn't get to where he is today by having anyone protect him, yet that's exactly what he himself does. If he is remembered as a hero it won't last long as the goblins will have their resurgence once he's out of the picture and there's nothing standing between them and the humans except for the greenhorns the guild already sacrificed regularly. So in the end the goblins will reassert their dominance and it will be like GS never even existed.
