There's no guarantee that 8chan is going to get shut down, but it's hard to see an outcome that isn't bad for the site overall, at least for a short while. While I don't watch GoT, from what I understand it was even worse than that. You had characters who's entire story was about defeating the BBEG and have been working towards that goal for the last 8 season. Goblin killed him, despite her plotline having nothing to do with the BBEG. It would be like if in Return of the Jedi, when Luke faces off against Vader and the Emperor, Leia just ran in and headshot them both. But even that's not a perfect analogy, because Leia at least had a serious connection to that due to the loss of her homeworld.

I've only watched earlier seasons, but I don't recall them doing a lot of big battles that would actually entail proper tactics and historically accurate combat. Mostly just scuffles with a few dozen dudes or bigger battles where the focus was specifically on a few key characters.

Doesn't surprise me that they'd so badly fuck up any kind of instance of actual large scale combat, and given how far the story seems to have disappeared up its own ass, it doesn't surprise me that the writers couldn't put together an actual instance of warfare between two sizable armies.

It started going its own way as in season 2, but became unbearable and I stopped caring by the end of season 3.
