Oh they wanted you to see it. It's to show how nice Haven is. Hell, it's name is Haven. Faunus and everyone getting along. They even work with nature. (Using every inch of the mountains- yet it's all green and lovely). Surprised they're going with the black market here as oppose to the sand place Sun's from. But I guess everywhere will have a place like it, and Qrow would know where to find it.

Outburst from the last volume aside- Yeah. She's a huntress, and that mean a soldier/firefighter-esque attitude. Save as many lives as you can, even if it's detrimental to you. I bitched about Ruby (presumably) stopping to help every village on the way to their goal, but for ANY of the main Hunters/Huntresses not to do that would be massively out of character (except Cordin).

This would have been an appropriate time for an outburst damn it! Maybe a fight scene.

Nope, new. Which means they must be paid well. With the size of the house and the guards, it's almost like Blake is a princess. Not to mention the armor and weapon is fancy as fuck- that or it's a city guard looking after the home after the attack by White Fang a lone wolf- but it still suggests a decent economy despite being banished to an island.

God the fucking SJW and fake Faunus oppression theory is making more sense by the episode. Shits gonna be like that /v/ game they reworked where the side character was mocked for being the voice of reason. Tereesa? Tay? Tan chick- green cloak.

No build up, no empathy to feel for it. Being told people are friends doesn't work. They don't break into friendly conversation or banter before remembering they're on opposite sides, or a flashback of them getting to know each other. Hell, being all the character shorts for V5 have been flashbacks- Blake's could have been training under the White Fang. Shows how she didn't agree 100% but went along, made friends with Illia, and how her faith in the group began to crack. Backstory for her, lorebuilding for the WF's early days.

He means closing off the boarders to Atlas. Now if people outside of Atlas need to get in (I.e. they live there, or do business with them) then they're fucked. In times of war/danger, closing of boarders is supposed to be normal- but if Atlas are doing shit that does go too far (clamming up so tight they won't even assist the outside world despite past pacts & promises with trade and arms) it'd be bad. Later on Lionheart even says they're "on the verge of war". If Atlas are getting skittish and sabre-rattling because of shit that doesn't add up to an invasion ("We need dust to survive" "Is that a threat?" Or building up arms to protect themselves from Grimm and being accused of mounting an army).

What they're doing is a Trump analogy. Not letting thousands of people pour into your nation without checks to protect them- even though they could then become a liability to that protection- is "wrong". They should be focused on the Dust Embargo TBH. "Fuck you, we're keeping the world's fuel for us" is a far bigger deal than "You're not coming in, we want to stay safe." Even them being paranoid over what other nations will do because of Beacon falling- which could have been a fascinating story of political intrigue and how far a nation should go to protect itself- will just be used to claim any self-preservation is "paranoid".

But we discussed RT's political bias to death.

Which to be honest… I don't mind. It feels very video-gamey sure (get these macguffins, now get these ones) but at least it feels "Monty". It also solves the issue of how 4 Maidens- magic or not- would be strong enough to take over the world. They're not. Salem wants Relics, and Maidens are the key to it. I can dig it.

Which begs the question- why did Cinder not go for the one in Beacon- if there is one? Unless she was looking for clues in Ozpin's office and shit escalated. Because if not, she should have gotten out, let the Grimm chew up Beacon, and guarantee living to find it. A few lines in V3/4 could have alleviated it though (Ozpin briefly mentioning relics to Pyrrah, Salem saying Cinder disobeyed orders and went on a rampage when she should have come home, etc).

I don't get how bandits have spring maiden, I think I wasn't clued in this or something must be the byproduct of retconing and/or time skip.

This show has terrible bloom applied when both outdoors and indoors, very bad placement of BAKED-in shadows, very empty rooms which they did two bar scenes and only one had a bartender and an actor/side-character.

During Blake's monologue at the house with the lizard?chameleon?retard chick she doesn't cast any shadows but other scenes such as the academy with the professor all six actors cast a shadow, some form of competent art director is needed. Like in season 4 they were complaining about rendering times for grass, I guess they went really extreme with it but forgot to fix every other scene to look consistently flat.

It feels in character for me. Miss "I can fix it!"- the person who wants no negative things in the world. Plus Lionheart and Qrow were at loggerheads so Ruby tried to sort it so progress could be made.

Or christ- maybe she doesn't replace any of the parts on it? I get if you replace every part on the weapon over time, it's not the same weapon. But if she's fought as much as she had- she needs to maintain it.

Scratches on the frame/red bits add "character" and show her growth by how much it's used (kinda) and even scratches on the blade are fine. But having it bent is completely off- as you said.

Yes, but there are other concerns. Closed borders means no trade. When one nation does that to another it's called an embargo.

Up until the end of the First World War, most of the American Government's income was tariffs (taxes on imported goods). Funding governments primarily through direct income taxes is a very recent thing (at least, for the US and UK). A trade embargo can be seen as an attack on the ability of other governments to fund themselves. I would suspect that, with the technology we see in the series, direct income taxes are a thing. That makes an embargo an attack on tax receipts from large capital traders. Not nearly as important, but still felt.

I think that the Dust Embargo would be the best bet for showing why things are leading to war. Have Yang give the guy at the saloon/gas station a dirty look when she sees the bill for filling up/recharging her bike. Or have a "No Dust" sign out front. We don't ever really see traffic in RWBY, and Mistral seems to be devoid of vehicles (and industry), so it would hard to show the impact on industry and onset of a global recession.

I think what bothers me is that it is a very American cartoony behavior, rather than a Japanese anime cartoony behavior. I would expect a hit like that to have that behavior in Looney Toons. If Tom, Sylvester, or Wiley E Coyote were hit like that, I would expect that kind of a reaction. In anime, he hits the floor and puts a hole in the floor. I don't think that Luffy has ever taken a hit like that, and he's made of fucking rubber. He would have put a hole in the floor because that's the Japanese cultural expectation: physics break in different ways. As RWBY has had an anime vibe, it is to be expected that a hit like that would have put him in a hole in the floor and knowcked him unconscious.

Dr. Wattz (Or Waltz, whichever) seems more like a negotiator, representative and medic rather than an assasin. Also Tyrian would be recovered by the time Wattz makes him a new tail as ordered by Salem.

I somewhat agreed, I thought they were just some pestering annoyance that can be deadly if they have the numbers but grappling stingers (Or grappling anything really, just watch Outlaw Star) are fucking scary. Regardless, it showed the importance that those little shits were no joke. Also why didn't those Vacuo ship had anti air abilities or at least gun positions to shoot them? They looked no different than the military ships that picked the gang up in Vol 4.

Huntsmen/Huntresses are more or less like Soldiers of Fortune but for Grimm Removal. Judging by the design, these looked like the military ships from earlier, and they probably underestimated the number of expected wasps.

Seems to me like she was more or less on the same page to make an alliance for needed supplies and materials, she's basically running an insurgency or a low intensity conflict. She probably didn't expect Adam and the other group to pull an attack on Beacon which caused her to distance herself. A more real life comparison would be making negotiations with warlords in africa or in central asia with branches of influence.

She basically doesn't have the resources for a full blown war or a total war in which Adam was wanting. We can assume she was doing an insurgency or having a low intensity conflict (See: North Korea during the Vietnam War Era and the FALN/Macheteros in Puerto Rico during the Cold War)

also adam's voice actor is improving. now i can almost hear the voice of a character when adam speaks, rather than the voice of garret hunter himself

also weiss's airship fight was too static to be engaging in any way. i constantly expected her to jump out and use gliphs to dart around through the air like in an anime and stab all the bees individually. instead she just stood there. the movements she did were elaborate but don't create projectiles large enough to be impressive or meaningful. it's kinda like she's using this complicated ritual to summon a peashooter and it's almost comical. kinda reminds me of the shamalan avatar last airbender movie where there's like 50 dudes performing an earthbending manouver but then like only a single pebble floats by when they're done.

The only thing I can assume is Sienna wanted to target humans who specifically gave shit to Faunus (Schnee and individuals), resulting in a situation where humans were afraid to speak out against Faunus. Except shutting down the world's fuel company (Schnee dust) is sure to make a ton more people pissed at you, even if you make some folk conflicted when they go after people who "deserved it". If it's true, they've kept to Monty's overall plot. Sienna might have be on paper to appear earlier or something, but Adam was always intended to kill her (though with infinite budget and time, it'd have been a fight scene). I also don't think Adam's using the social side as a scapegoat for power or supremacy. He truly believes Faunus deserve better… Because they're better. And the social issues (allegedly) do happen.

As for the mining situation, the biggest "proof" of their current oppression, we currently have no reason to believe those miners work in poor conditions, or aren't paid as well as others, like Jacques said. The average miner salary in real life is $62,620, which is pretty good. If that's what most working class fauness are doing, as implied, then they're overall a pretty wealthy people. I'm betting that the writers chose mining because it's considered a dangerous job, which is historically true, and still is to a degree, but the advancements in real life earth mining technologies and procedures have reduced the injury and fatality rates drastically, and it's continuing to decrease.

Don't forget he's making a speech to two different groups- Humans and Faunus.

Him saying "Fuck the White Fang, Sienna is nuts" wins points with humans, but loses some faunus (who privately agree with the White Fang's methods, or feel the White Fang is the only means of getting shit done).

Him saying "Sienna is a good girl who dindu nuffin" is the inverse- Humans would hate him making excuses for what the White Fang did. But if all we've seen are actions by the White Fang under Adam- what the hell did Sienna's White Fang do to put them in bad stead with people, where she wants humans to fear people, but still consider all out war with humans bad? Did they only target the Schnee family & company? "Screw you we're sabotaging your oil Dust."

So, Ghira needs to basically say Sienna has the right idea, but is doing it wrong. All the while painting himself as him leaving the White Fang to Sienna as something he wanted to do, rather than something he had to do.

But, I think 99.9% of this is stuff you make up as you read into it. More likely it's a plot hole.

I take it more to show Weiss as immature. Just like when she invoked her sister's name in the last episode.

I think the fight between yang and the thugs was technically alright, but it lacked any rhythm whatsoever, you really feel the lack of monty in these boring uninspired and badly paced fights.

Miles and Kerry tried their best to have the scene with Yang and Raven meeting contain as little emotion or humanity whatsoever. Raven is not in the slightest happy to see her daughter, and Yang is not affected by seeing her goddamn mother for the first time, the mother she and her sister nearly died trying to find, the mother she always wanted to meet… Nope, she's just edgy instead of in any way emotionally affected. The fact that the two characters shout at eachother 40 feet apart while being stared at by like 30 random people doesn't help either. Still, the dialogue is so bad it hurts.

Yang could've said almost anything and it would've been perfect. Things she could have said:

>"I've been looking for you my entire life."

>"Why did you leave?"

>"Why did you never come see me?"

>"I finally found you."

And so on.

Or, it could've been self-refential:

Or, it could've been cheeky, which would fit Yang:

Fucking INSTEAD of any of that, Yang goes: "pls help me make the plot more contrived with ur magic powers".

You can pick a random rwby fanfic writer and promote him to be the lead writer and the show would only be better off for it, I swear.

I actually think the portal thing makes sense. Anima is fuckhuge. Yang doesn't have so much as a roadmap. There are no communications. Imagine trying to find one group of 5 people, on foot, who are traveling from Texas to Germany, and by any number of routes, with zero guidance or reference. You've never even been halfway to where you're going, and there is no GPS.

Getting Raven to act as a homing beacon for Qrow is perhaps the most sensible thing I've seen Yang do. Like, ever.

The problem with this is that the last place we see Yang in season 4 is at the fork in the road for Kuroyuri and Mistral, where we saw RNJR three episodes earlier, showing that Yang was clearly successfully following Ruby in Anima. Yang is shown taking the fork to Mistral. The only thing that makes sense is if Yang passed RNJR by going directly to Mistral, went to Haven, found out Ruby wasn't there, and then decided on this hair-brained scheme because Ruby disappeared somewhere near Mistral.

Now, looking back, it isn't the exact same fork (the fork RNJR was at had two more towns noted), but that was the impression that I got at the time. The problem I have with this is geometry and the signs: both say Kuroyuri left, Mistral right. So, either Yang started searching for Ruby somewhere entirely different from where Ruby started her trip on Anima, or somewhere on their trip RNJR got to an intersection that said Mistral one way, not-Mistral the other and they went the other way (long before Kuroyuri). While Anima is fuckhuge, people who are not running from the law generally travel on the major roads between regionally-important towns, making looking for someone far, far simpler. That's why I assumed that Yang was right behind RNJR at the end of season 4.

Its even worse because they've shown us that the communication systems work within the kingdoms. They took pains to have Qrow mention in V5C1 that the local comms work. And while they haven't given us an exact range, as long as Yang was in the kingdom, Ruby should just be a call away. Unless her scroll isn't working for some reason other than plot contrivance then we're left with a character doing something in the most convoluted way possible.

Agree with the points other anons have made about the Yang/Raven scene being disappointing. Saying that I think I know what they were going for doesn't help. It's like knowing what high skill dive a flailing belly-flop was supposed to be. Also agree that the Yang Weiss reunion would have meant something if they'd said more than a few lines to each other before now. Yang & Weiss have had more lines between them than Ruby & Blake but that's not saying much.

And their use of Golaem is bothersome. They've got a fancy crowd sim tool and the way they frame shots shows it off in the worst manner.

Between Oscar/Ozpin's gymnastics last chapter and Yang's this chapter, someone on staff likes the twisting Yurchenko.

Yang's missing her other gauntlet (was it lost when she lost her arm?), and the fighting couldn't be more low energy if it tried.

It's like they've taken the "pause before the hit" rule for the tempo of a scene- but applied it at random. It's like two different sets of mo-cap: one great and one amateur. Everything is so slow.

Ruby's training with Ozpin isn't even that impressive a spectacle of hand-to-hand fighting. All these fucking super-man punches look AWFUL when they should be awesome.

Semblance's are now officially Quirks- rather than something someone may have. It changes up the dynamic of the world a lot. Rather than the "few saving the many who can't fight" as highly skilled (sometimes boosted by a semblance, making those without look even more powerful as they rely on raw skill or weapons) means those we see are the best of the best; or have the potential to be. When everyone has the potential, it lessens the stakes. People might need intense training to be able to use them, but then it becomes the strong few protecting those who can't be bothered. Seriously- in a world where Grimm are this big a threat- why isn't everyone drafted into being a Huntsmen/Huntress? You can still kick people out if they can't handle it, but with how vicious the Grimm are, can you take the risk of only training people who know they want to do it?

Then Semblance is further ruined by calling it a super-power and the most heavy handed exposition I've heard (and shit we already know). You can HEAR the Wikia article they're reading off of. And the fucking music in the background sounds like a PSA. Though I do like that Ren unlocked his Semblance in the village, rather than just hiding it. Wish they'd have conveyed that to the audience. Even Ren & Nora looking at each other in surprise would have helped.

Yang then decides to walk into the bandit camp (people who would value not having their location spilled) rather than demanding a parlay outside the camp. Weiss also decides to be stupid and destroy the bars (very noisily- distraction or not) before her tied-up wrists. Raven then seems oddly friendly and show-boaty. Is she mocking Yang to show her men that she cares more about her troupe's loyalty & strength than even the bond of family? This is a total 180 from who we saw last time. "What do you want?" is what I'd expect to see. In fact, why is she having this convo out in the open, rather than having a private meeting? Why risk Yang undermining you in front of your men? And Yangs out of character as well. Unless Yang was playing mind-games (pretending it's about family first then revealing she just needs her for convenience), there is zero reason she should trust Raven. Hell- her whole motive for finding Raven has been off and changing every 5 mins. She's not even emotional seeing her now. Does she want answers for why she left? Does she want to say "screw you we did OK without you"? This whole convo feels like it'd go the same way if it was a stranger, and it really shouldn't. And both of their line reads are so fucking dry. Considering this is a mother and daughter reuniting after X years, the mom only wants the daughter as a soldier, and the daughter only wants the mom's help, yet both have family ties niggling at the back of their mind- it sounds fucking lifeless. The Jap VAs are gonna do so much better with this scene (even if you can't understand what someone is saying, you can hear the emotion in their voice). Imagine if both of them were getting more and more irate, the people around them start getting on edge and battle-ready, and the pair slowly approach one another. How is it that hard to add tension to a scene with two people who have a fist-first policy? It's two unstoppable forces wanting the other to move first. The only person that's believably angry is the mook who takes the first swing and me. Although I do love the reveal of Weiss. Then it gets dumb since no one realized she was breaking out (unless she meant she needed to help her friend? Which that really didn't convey?) Yang & Weiss storming into battle… with Mocap that was clearly on a stage too small and the actors afraid they'd hit the wall. Though Weiss embracing Yang was nice.

This shit is Season 4 tier. WORSE than Season 4 I'd argue. Potential for good fight scenes become a minute of stuff that even X-Ray and Vav was doing better (seriously imagine Yang and Weiss fighting off hoards of bandits and Raven before the Spring Maiden shows up to stop it), voice acting has gotten worse (your best VA should not be Jessica Nigri. The VA who improved the most shouldn't be Jessica Nigri!), and the animations & corner cutting is bleeding obvious.

I'm so glad I can watch with you guys instead of giving a click. This might be Monty's plot, but it's as far from his implementation as it could be.

They could just have Raven be off (intentionally of course, because she didn't want to see her daughter for some reason) while Yang enters the camp. Have the conversation of "wanting that portal" to the Spring Maiden lady who is told by Raven to take care of Yang while she runs off. Like replace the entire dull uninspired scene between Yang and Raven with a more cold and calculating scene between Yang and Spring Maiden and it would still keep Yang's motivation and being Yang would try to play a trick on the bandits so that she would see her mother who abandoned her own family.

There's not going to be a handful of protests. In fact, native protests are the least of their concerns. You've then got the reluctant era. Older generations still treat them like shit, while younger generations are open to the idea of treating the nice ones like nice people. Laws designed to protect Faunus from race-related crime & legitimate discrimination are created, but are often not enforced.

Menagerie is a country that exists at the whim of the great powers. It makes sense to not have a standing army because it doesn't really need one: none of the four kingdoms will attack it, for historical reasons. You would expect them to have a home guard (the Secret Service, as you call them, like the guard outside the Belladonna mansion), but those are guards and not soldiers: they fight Grimm, thieves, and drunken tourists. They are not regulars and can't really be called up for a foreign excursion: who would do their job while they are away? As for the militia: Blake is trying to rally the militia and they don't see the point.

Honestly, it seems that the four kingdoms gave Menagerie to the Faunus and said: you make it work. The Faunus had to grow a nation. It may be that Ghira has no influence over the police, and so they aren't shown (as in, the police are empowered through the local city council and are not subservient to higher political forces). In history, there were many times when kings had a dick of a time trying to raise an army. Despite the Belladonna's affluence, we don't really see that his government has the funds to keep an army. When a people aren't under direct attack, they see no purpose in financially maintaining a regular army.

I think you're the one not seeing how primitive the "government" of Menagerie is. I understand: there are nations in Africa that seem more competent. There are historical precedents for it, though, in European history. Ghira honestly reminds me of a local lord in the Holy Roman Empire: he has local political importance and nothing else. While one could say, that the nation Atlas exists means that Menagerie needs an army, Menagerie exists at at Atlas' whim: until there is a significant change in heart of the Atlas government, Menagerie is safe. And Atlas' recent significant change of heart was towards isolationism.

Yes, Menagerie is a country, but it is a primitive country that doesn't really have need of a strong state. It has powerful potential enemies, but those enemies are more woried about one another than it. It is, to put it bluntly, a Libertarian paradise.

I wouldn't go as far as RT being afraid of their audience "thinking" however, but whole-heatedly agree it's to pander industry friends the owner of RT's owner and Crunchyroll just happens to be a guy who hosted/donated to fund-raiser for Obama's campaign IIRC and prevent backlash from their left-leaning audience.

I'd say it's mainly because to RT writers- this is normal writing. We've had generations of stories telling us how nationalism can be twisted into something evil- do the same for other Kingdom's politics as well. Whatever they are.

The "war on individuality" sets up a great chance for the kingdom's and their people's differences to be agitated by someone for their own game (Salem) and someone else (Ruby & co) to tell people to put aside the minor shit, and work together to deal with shit that could end their world. Learn to tolerate the individualities. Then learn to work arm-in-arm with different people who have similar major goals to you.

That, and the time-constraints of each episode wouldn't help even if you wanted to do the above.

Even some of the fights in ScrewAttack's DeathBattle look better than what we have now.

I think it especially hurts since you can see where a good fight scene originally would have been.

The Yang/Weiss/Giant Semblance Knight break-out, Ruby training with Oscar.

Or improving fight scenes we had, like Yang vs the Branwen thugs.

The story wasn't perfect, but the fights helped cover up for that. Now we're analyzing the story to such a degree that if we applied it to trash seasonal anime, we'd kill 99.9% of it. There was a TON of downtime between fights in Season 1 & 2. It was only in Season 3 we had a constant drip of battles every other episode.

Even if the writers were better, it feels like they need double the episodes or double the episode length. Then again, we'd have only just finished Season 2 had a ton of more interesting scenes to develop the characters and world, so then you need more fight scenes to make sure it's not just talking all the time…

Sure, but in V1 it was used for Ruby and Weiss's conflict, Jaune's insecurities, and Blake's fears. There was downtime, but it was used to focus on the characters. Same for V2. The 'downtime' was there for the characters to drive the plot. Blake only wanted to fight Torchwick because of his involvement in the WF, for example, and that was all that was needed for the climax of V1 to happen. The character's agencies drove the action.

I'm the last person to defend RWBY's writing, but at least M&K got that right earlier on. Now they're too busy teasing some epic event that's barely visible on the horizon.

In this volume it seems as if the characters have no real agency because they're chasing after a nebulous, far away enemy who will do something bad at some point maybe, and developing this is what 90% of the downtime is used for.

In the earlier volumes, the quieter moments were used to create context for the fights that happened (and honestly, the fights were pretty fucking great. Still nothing tops Ruby vs the nevermore in S1, or Yang vs Neo in S2, or Yang vs Mercury in S3 when it comes to coreography/originality).

Right now the talking is used to create context for… well, nothing really.

Take Adam wanting to kill Blake's parents for example. They've waited 5 episodes before revealing this, and it's still not happened. If this show was well written, her parents would've been assasinated in the first episode of V5, and it would have served as the emotional core for Blake to keep doing what she does. It would've served as Blake's inciting incident to kick off a new arc.

Now back on topic(ish); is it just me, or did Yang really undergo a dramatic change of character, to the point of it being almost over dramatic?

The reason why I ask this was because she was the normalizer of RWBY. She's the Experience to Ruby's Naivete. The Fire to Weiss' Ice and the social butterfly to Blake's shut-in. She was the one you could reliably count on when the chips were down or when she needed to pull through.

Now, she seems to be edgy. Aloof. I'm also surprised that when Nora pulled her arm out, she didn't get a PTSD trigger, even a little one that Ruby could've snapped her out of. It just seems like someone's playing like Yang, and not being her.

While it's supposed to be like the Halo shield (acting as a second life-bar that goes down once it's depleted), I think it's more like how the body manages blood.

If it's running low, it'll prioritize major organs over non-essential bits- including hair. So when Yang loses her hair, its some fucking symbolism (Summer said she looked pretty with long hair?) and that she can see her Aura is getting low. It's like seeing your own blood for her- time to go big or go into the grave.

You probably find the priority of aura when it's low is head + torso -> limbs -> fingers + toes -> hair

And even then- really long hair could still be damaged if it's far enough away from the body.

It's also like the Superman "man of steel" rule- where the aura is just big enough to stop clothes being damaged.

I think the line's kind of blurry regarding Penny, considering her "human" skin was a shell and an Emp basically hit her before the wires wrapped and shredded her.

There was mystery and interesting ideas with the world of Remnant. But the info we've gotten was dumped out unceremoniously in separate videos. Stuff we want to know more about is never even referenced again, and the mysteries the show does want to show off are left unexplained (but not in a satisfying way) or have a poor pay-off.

It had the potential for wonder and awe. But everything just feels like "Okay".

Like the flying rocks held up by dust, or how Haven (if we look at its inhabitants) are a mix of Roman/Greek and Japanese cultures. The closest we have to it is "What sort of tech does Atlus have" "What will the next Grimm be able to do" and "How strong is the next Maiden". We don't care about the Faunus plight because we've had nothing to whet our appetite. The mystery about Semblances was swept away with "people just get them".

To be fair, it's written like an action show- to hell with the world, let's just get people to smash into each other. Even when Monty was around, this was still the case. But now it's an action show whose fight scenes are in the shadow of it's predecessor.

of tough love. Her talking about her family would be a form of complaining and rambling but also hiding a sincerity that states that her life really is pretty terrible. But really the talk is just them trying to reallocate the Freezerburn ship they are now making now that they actually have Blake be in a Faunus Love Polygon.

And of course the fanbase is trying to excuse Illia being a lesbian despite her entire character motivation being reduced from kindred spirits to a mere spiteful "I just want you to love me!"

The fight scenes suck. So, I watched some JewTube vidoes by a cocksucker who will go unnamed, and he liked the new fight scenes. He gave some good reasons: they are far more cinematic, they are less videogamey. I agree: they are far more cinematic and less like videogame cutscenes, but they suffer due to that. That was what Monty knew and what Monty created, and it was good. In a -con panel, Monty was asked about the "12 Basic Principles of Animation"; he reponds with "I'm just a high school dropout. I don't know what you're talking about". In that same talk, he shows that he implicitly understood "Squash and Stretch". Monty implicitly understood aesthetic: he knew what looked good and what didn't in a fight scene. Rooster Teeth has lost that.
