Dillon's at it again. Fun and dynamic fight choreo, wonder where he got the idea.

Fitting as well since RT is getting shit for copying Overwatch with their "non-binary" diversity:LOCK character that comes complete with special pronouns.

They've been teasing bumblebee since some fans forced it, and they don't want to quash it entirely out of fear of backlash. Though I'd argue since Aryn got threats that has long since passed.

But as I said earlier, if they make Atlas traditionalist then RT breaking all the traditional shit would prob happen there. Lesbian kissing and being nice to Faunus in front of scoffing rich assholes.

I do wonder if they'll give Sun a replacement ship if bumblebee becomes legit. Hell, I wonder if they'll turn him gay as a soft test for it (I can see them being smart enough to know the criticisms they'll get for shoe-horning bumblebee, but not smart enough to make a worse solution). He's fun, rebellious, and sexy. That's all gay people are, right guys?! Then you tease Blake and Yang for a season and have the kiss next time.

The song BMLB is great tho.

>>36645

I'd argue there is one minor tweaks to this.

> Weiss 100% becomes a tumblr feminist = RWBY / Other Girls Have An SJW Speech

Why stop at Weiss? Each of these "powerful female characters" can live out the female staff and the female audience's social dream. Some kind of big speech/rant that shakes those who hear it to their core and makes them change their ways. Only those who are truly evil will not repent, and will bark back with illogical arguments, reveal it was always about hate or jealousy instead of logic, or resort to violence. Bonus points for speaking to a crowd or straight into the camera. Any form of wish-fulfillment of "give me attention, love what I say, and convert to it."

>The panel opened by showing a clip of the first episode from Volume 6. The clip opens on a train winding it's way through a snowy mountain range. Team RWBY and RNGR are in action fighting off winged bear Grimms.

>It cuts to the White Fang hideout, where Adam has made his return. He wants his throne back but the rest of White Fang don’t accept him. They still remember how he ran away from the last battle. Adam kills them and takes the throne. We also learn he’s still mad at Blake for betraying him, and is holding a grudge.

>The next scene showed RWBY and RNGR in a train station, preparing to leave for Argus. Qrow sends a letter to Atlas to explain what happened in the Battle of Haven. Blake and Ilia say their goodbyes. Ilia’s going back to Haven to help Blake’s family rebuild. The two share a hug, then part ways.

>Sun shows up and says that he is going back to his home. He wants to team up with his old crew, including Neptune, who shows up to hit on Ilia. Blake jokes that he is barking up the wrong tree. After everything that happened in Volume 5, Sun decides he needs to become a better team leader. Blake decides she needs to be with her team. Blake gives Sun a kiss on the cheek and rejoins Team RWBY.

They cut the stream on the intro vid & the episode preview, so other than manga tie-ins, the Scholastic CFVY book and other merchandising, actual time devoted discussion of RWBY V6 lasted less than 8 mins. Factor in the time lost to lame jokes and it comes out to even less. The rest of time was devoted to diversity:LOCK and they even aired an already released episode of Camp Camp to fill out the time. So this vid is basically all there was about RWBY V6. It comes in right after they show the preview.

1st webm - more discussion of the show avoiding any specifics about V6. If you've seen previous interviews/panels you've heard all of this before.

It'll be curious to see whether or not they'll actually show a ruling council this volume.

They blew the chance to show the inner workings of the SDC in past volumes when it would have mattered.

Wondering on the FX side if they'll play with water this volume since they did fire already. By that I mean fighting in water or rain not the shallow paddling we got in Menagerie last volume.

2nd webm touches diversity:LOCK

>“It’s one thing to make a fantasy world because you can’t compare it to real life,” says Miles Luna. “But a cartoon version of something that exists? All eyes are going to be on what’s correct. One of those things is crowds.”

>Without getting deep into the specifics, Luna says Rooster Teeth has made leaps in efficiently creating crowd scenes, not to mention making them look alive. “We did a whole bunch of R&D on crowd research for gen:LOCK that we’re now able to use retroactively for RWBY Volume 6,” he explains.

>“For gen:LOCK we began enhancing some of the technology in the pipeline,” Haddock tells Inverse, naming areas such as crowds (again), as well as rendering “enhanced rigging” and increased “use of matte painted backgrounds.”

The article's emphasis on crowds is funny because it was mentioned upthread how poor their use of Golaem was. Maybe the developers were tired of RT making the plugin look bad.

>“We’re just getting started, so stay tuned for more, but we are indeed working with them,” said Rooster Teeth Head of Animation Gray G. Haddock in a roundtable interview at NYCC. “The first two we can announce right now are RWBY and gen:LOCK, and there are plans to have those available next year.”

>“The comic books and graphic novels will focus on bridging the stories between seasons,” Lee said in a statement, “as well as exploring the adventures of the supporting characters who play a direct role in the overall plot and who can have a heavy impact on the storyline.”

>Miles Luna, the writer of RWBY and voice for Jaune, added that there are more Rooster Teeth series beyond the two already confirmed that are also being explored. “RWBY and gen:LOCK aren’t the only series we’re doing, there’s still more yet to be announced. It’s super early. But we didn’t want to wait until next year’s Comic Con [to say something].”

Rooster Teeth's 'gen:LOCK and 'RWBY' Comics From DC Will Arrive "Next Year

https://www.inverse.com/article/49780-rwby-genlock-dc-comics-deal-explained

>The character of Ruby reminds me of Goku in some ways. No matter what’s going on, they feel they can overcome it. How does it feel to embody such a character?

>LB: Incredible for me. Playing a character like Ruby who is positive and persevering who feels she has to push forward, not just for herself but for everyone, motivates me to do the same. As you get older you become more jaded and cynical, especially with current events. Ruby reminds me, especially speaking as a mother, you have other people to worry about now. She motivates me.

>KS: She’s the Shonen in all of us.

>In Volume 5 Ruby took a backseat to other characters. Was that intentional? Or did the story just become that way and we’ll eventually get back to her.

>KS: A little bit of both. Volumes 4 and 5 was a definite challenge for us in terms of runtime and making sure we cover as many characters as possible.

>A lot of Ruby’s character is understood and we wanted to take this opportunity while everyone was separated to learn a little more about the other characters. Although a lot wasn’t focused on Ruby, the way she handled things with RNGR and Qrow and Oscar, it says a lot about her even though it wasn’t Ruby-centric. There’s always a thing about main characters, are they the focus or are they there to help steer the story for others? This last little bit, Ruby as the leader, has been taking a backseat to give time for other characters to grow. But that doesn’t mean she’s done growing.

Picking up on the interviews above, firstly with Miles being proud of that moment with Jaune declaiming against Cinder, I wonder if they'll ever get it. It's not a powerful moment because every technique he as writer could have used to build up to it was ignored. Mirroring the bratty Weiss moment from V4 that Miles was so proud, it could have with just a little more structure been a truly memorable moment. Jaune's yelling at Cinder is empty because Kerry & Miles missed establishing exactly how horrible what she's doing with Salem really is.

And Kerry saying he's not a fan of the show being "drag and depressing all the time". How about even 10% of the time? Why not explore the full breadth & depth of the darkness of Remnant.

>We wanted to end on a happy note, but with a question mark. That’s what we were getting at. Volume 3 was such a downer. Building from that with Volume 5 we wanted to feel like they won, but damn was it hard for them. Plot-wise? Yes, they did the thing, stopped the bad guy, but it took a lot out of them.

That reminds me of how Kerry called the decision to end V2 on a happy note a "compromise". And further confirms who pushed for and was ultimately responsible for the mess that was "Breach". V2C12 is rightly derided to this day just like the conclusion of V5 is and will be over time. But "Breach" was only one episode, they managed to take their increase in budget and manpower and stretch the mediocre ending of V5 to 4 episodes.

If you took the basic plot- the absolute bare-bones of what happens in the show, it's alright. Not spectacular (especially last season), but it's a fine concept. Literally every other aspect of execution fails.

Lets take what you said:

> Weiss' rant at the party

Show her getting more stressed over the evening. Build up the stress of getting ready for the show, then seeing her fellow elites and those serving them in a new light, then capped with a real stresser. i.e. Jaque shows her his interrogation of two members of staff who hid themselves as being Faunus. He knows one of them is a member of the WF. He gives a big speech and shoots one. Only for it to turn out it was the other one, so he casually shoots them to. Jaque finishes with something about how Faunus inevitably rebel so killing them when they show the slightest risk of dissent is fine, or "When the odds are 50/50, you always lose" so make yourself perfect. Weiss looks horrified and as she walks away she throws up in a nearby vase or something, next scene with her shows her hand still trembling. After you have the big stresser you have a smaller stresser to push her over the edge. Like someone admits most of the people there buying the painting are doing so to sell it for more down the line rather than charity, the artist is revealed to be a Faunus and no one wants to touch it, or someone says what happened at the Vytal Festival would never have happened in Atlas because their students aren't second rate. I think whatever the tanned woman said was too spiteful and even fellow elites (even if keeping up appearances) would have scoffed at her.

> Jaune's fuck you rant to Cinder

Have him at the top of the tower and seeing Pyrrah die by Cinder's hand. Then he gets batted aside easily or he jumps onto the dragon to stab it (with little to no effect) while in a crying rage. Next season Jaune has doubts over if he should travel/still be a huntsman. While he comes up with good tactics to deal with grim (note: rewrite earlier series so Jaune is shown to be a gifted tactician and quickly learning many aspects of grim), he ultimately can't execute it. When his plans do go wrong, the rest of RNGR's instincts and skill deal with the threat, not to mention them being better fighters overall and Jaune being useless against a non-grim foe. He gets some scenes where he is shown to be improving and getting smarter (RNGR look for the bandits/help protect Mistral/try to get the students inspired again, instead of sitting around the house waiting for Leo to call). So when he sees Cinder, he's already had a confidence boost, knows he can do better, and isn't afraid. Then after his big speech, keep Cinder's "Who are you?" to rub salt in the wound. Keep the stand off (but set it up smarter) so that Jaune breaking it shows how mad he is over it, and that he's still falable.

> The awkward tone shit

Have hints of darkness in the earlier season (much like the "hints of darkness" in earlier fairy tales). Show Faunus being treated like shit, show people protesting about the Huntsmen Academies taking on people so young (protect the children, but we won't offer a better solution), show the rising tensions with dust prices going up, and how no one really trusts Atlas a'la how the west sees Russia. Snippets of newspapers, news shows, background people talking, or the characters in the show talking about things like that, and having it segway into local events and matters they care about more. Also, show grim and thugs killing people. Not super A/O gore-fests, but even out-of-shot maulings and civilians being knocked to the ground and not moving after would work wonders better. The breach could then have more weight as we see civilians being harmed and how grim capitalize on panic. The Batman animated series did "dark" and was still light-hearted in places and appropriate for kids. Thats because it just didn't goof off 24-7 like with young children's programming. Miles & Kerry have been raised on late Cartoon Network and think the Adventure Time style machine-gun of dumb jokes the odd serious episode is good structure for a show that wants to tell a serious story. It's not!

The biggest sin of RWBY is how the effort to fix it would be greater than the effort to make a new IP. And I'd still swipe up the chance to re-write it in an instant. The marketing has already been done and the show's fans + detractors are already there to discuss it and generate interest.

And then everyone would still hate it still because it's supposed to be an action spectacle like most of Monty's work, but it has far too deep a lore stuck to it. It's like wrestling free broadcasts and pay-per-view. When characters aren't fighting, it should be building up for the next fight. People getting stronger, growing to hate someone, growing to want to fight along side someone. You can still put in lore for the world, but it's much much harder. I pity how Miles & Kerry struggled to write a show like this (and that the frame-work Monty provided probably didn't help either), but I don't pity how they reacted to it and criticism.

>>36670

12k thumbs up, only 500 thumbs down- I doubt it.Their podcasts and other major shows (not to mention Achievement Hunter, Funhaus, etc) keep them afloat with other demographics. Hell, I liked Camp Camp and (the early seasons of) On the Spot.

But it really depends how much moolah they sunk into their animation department. If RWBY and Gen:Lock both tanked, then best case they fire and hire new people, maybe even cull the animation department back to machinima in the Halo games. Worse case their parent company comes down on them and fires more senior people and/pr puts an actual professional in charge. I suspect their owners like them for the social reach they have as oppose to the money they make (though it is a bonus if they're self-sufficient). A bunch of hipsters that won't champion nationalism, meritocracy, quality, and all those other words the left hates right now? That have 9.5 million subs? It's a left-wing holy grail, and well worth them forcing their shows to be successful via advertising (appeal to the widest bracket, lie about how successful you are, etc) until they can get real talent on board with a fat check to make something actually good. Like Disney, you don't need to try if you can make people think you're doing well.

Dammnit, anon! You're not pulling me into that trap. Though theorizing fixes is tempting it's also a near endless proposition. It's disappointing to see what they've fallen into but it's also maddening to see how easily preventable it all was. Couple of things though.

>Have him at the top of the tower and seeing Pyrrah die by Cinder's hand.

Gotta quote the letter that's becomes more verified as time goes on.

<No longer did Jaune witness and cause Pyrrha’s death, triggering a major character growth moment for him.

We've seen that even when Kerry & Miles have a good solution they won't use it, whether through fear of fan-backlash, ignorance or even arrogance. The lore inconsistencies introduced in the last 3 volumes have been staggering.

>news shows

It's truly sad how underused this narrative device is and its been established in the show since V1C1.

>The breach could then have more weight as we see civilians being harmed and how grim capitalize on panic.

That's exactly what was setup in "No Brakes" and when they didn't follow through in "Breach" I couldn't figure it out. But when Kerry called the tone of that episode a "compromise" things began to click. We'll see if they do rehab on the Grimm this volume, if it's not too late.

>>36672

When characters aren't fighting, it should be building up for the next fight. People getting stronger, growing to hate someone, growing to want to fight along side someone.

Those sentences could have fixed a lot of what went wrong in the previous 2 volumes.

It's another travel season.

Then again the season in Mistral was awful.

Probably a woman who lives on the outskirts of Atlas in the wilds, probably acting as a lore-dump. Maybe inspirations from Baba Yaga?

Could be, but the locals were bowing down. Watts hasn't seemed to operate openly like that. I also wonder- in a world of superpowers- what a person could do to elicit worship? Could be Adam or even Cinder. Why they float? Who knows.

She has a scarf, and no one is getting decent clothes until Atlas I bet. If ever.

No. Or at a very slow rate to the point more errors pile on top of each other.

>>36682

I think it's a genetic oriental/middle-eastern inspired lantern thing. You could find something like that in Prince of Persia, or Uncharted, or a movie, etc. I still like the design of it though, but it hasn't lived up to the reverence of what it claims to do.

Emerald seemed to be freaking out over what was in front of her. I think she's certainly in shock, or Salem has some reveals that are horrifying. Like the whole possession thing is what she did to Cinder.

> Oh she used to be a nice girl before hand, but when I possess people they basically turn evil. And then into grim!

As a writing arc it kind of makes sense. Emerald did something she needed to out of survival and compromised her morals. Now she's becoming even more evil and her morals are eroding even more. Great metaphor for not compromising your morals and what it leads to, combined with body/mind horror. If we had more scenes at how she hated worked for Cinder, it could have worked.

I honestly hope her semblance is just to turn other semblance's up to 11 (along with magic as a catch-all for fights) rather than turning people into grim/possession.

What bugs me more is how Adam got his mask back after dropping it, and how no one has winter clothes, when Weiss has a scarf over a ball-gown. Blake has her midriff exposed ffs.

>“It’s a definite culture shock the first time people see Atlas,” he teases.

>In many ways, Rooster Teeth is approaching Vol. 6 with recent criticisms of the series in mind. Mainly, that the characters in Vol. 5 hardly moved around.

>“One of the big criticisms we got was that a portion of our cast was in the same house for so long in Vol. 5,” Luna admits. “We really wanted to feel like we were always going to new places and seeing new things.”

>On the purpose of the train sequence, the creators wanted to give fans a first impression of the new volume a sense of nostalgia and rebirth.

>“We made a list of things that people really wanted from RWBY. We went back to what we loved about the show when we got started,” says Luna, explaining that getting caught up in the trees can make one miss the forrest. “We had this moment of like, ‘Why do we like doing this? What made us love this?’”

>The answer: “Watching kids fight monsters in crazy situations and having fun,” Luna explains. “So we make that the first thing the audience sees.”

I'm guessing it won't be one of those artifacts where it's useful but has phenomenal powers when used together/to unlock something else. Just inert until it does whatever it does with the others, or it'll deus ex machina. "Oh it's super powerful but we can't control it" stuff.

>>36693

> We're sorry we fucked up, we swear it's gonna be just like the old days.

Two worrying things.

They think showing people on a mode of transport counts as "things moving forward".

And they think the earlier season nostalgia is a good thing.

For action? Yes. The tone can't be used since it's no longer light-hearted due to the stakes, and the plot and characters still had holes in them a mile wide. In fact, I don't even know how they'll go back to the classic Monty-style action. He was great at it and understood some techniques beyond the basic (hitting on the beats of rhythm of the music, avoiding cuts to show) and his style which kind of broke basic rules (nothing has weight and moves very swiftly, "rule of cool", etc). They aren't gonna find the animators that good in their budget, and even if they did they would not have Monty's style.

Despite that, I do think they are improving. But they're building on shaky ground due to events of past seasons and having to write specifically to counter criticisms and explain errors, not to tell a good story.

And I'm damn sure I'd make similar errors if I wrote a story from scratch, and had the constraints that they do.

>And I'm damn sure I'd make similar errors if I wrote a story from scratch, and had the constraints that they do.

It takes a special kind of people to make the compounding errors Kerry & Miles have made since V3. All they had to do was expand on what was good & smooth over or patch up the not so good parts. Instead they've deliberately slapped inconsistent characterization & contradictory lore on top of what was shakily established in volumes 1 & 2. No one forced them to do this. There was a way to get it right. But they seemed determined to get so much wrong it's impossible to empathize. The tone that you mentioned before was part of that.

Case in point, this video clip.

Wondering why transports don't come equipped with anti-Grimm armoury and a trained, well-armed crew as standard. Show us that the denizens of Remnant take the Grimm seriously. Technology in the world should have developed as a direct response to their presence not treat them as an afterthought.

> Weiss being kinda bitchy considering her whole arc of becoming nicer. Could have said it a bit more in jest, or show some apprehension of going back to Atlas.

> Considering they could have just gone with twins or a mirror'd design for Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum, I actually like Dee and Dudley's designs. Hope their weapons still transform and do cool shit.

> Also like how they're showing being a Huntsmen isn't all heroic and nice, and having outright backhanders for better protection. Shit like this makes Cordin more believable in hindsight (though not how Ozpin put up with him).

To be honest I like it. Comedy may still be a massive tone-shift from other events, but it's alright. I dig it.

>>36699

Grimm as a core concept really don't work. If they always existed, why not have everything built up like a fortress. If they only recently come back, why are kids handling it? If it's been enough time that a new generation are now training to handle it, why hasn't stuff been built up like a fortress in that time?

I'm guessing since it's a civvy train they don't care, while Atlas would have heavily armored transport for goods and VIPs. "Stay in Atlas, you won't die!", "Don't come to Atlas, you might die!"

>>36700

One of the earlier World of Remnants hinted at Atlas doing that, or some form of negative emotion suppression. It was never elaborated on, and the lore changes every season. It could just be Military Discipline to keep emotions in check, and a very swift justice system to ensure no one is mad for long.

On VA's I've gotten used to them. Most of the time I like the voice, just not how the person acts or the lines they're given. I prefer Lindsay's chipmunk voice to her earlier one that was just her. It's an 80s anime dubbing trope of trying to do a high pitched voice to sound like the Jap dub and younger than the actress is, but I couldn't imagine Ruby with any other voice now.

I am worried that the next couple of volumes involving Atlas is going to be one big trump extravaganza. Ironwood will be the Jingoistic make atlas great againer and Jacques will be the misogynistic racist.

Becoming a Huntsman just means you survived the training. It was explained in the Huntsmen WOR that once the students graduate they're free agents with no allegiance to a particular kingdom. That's also why what happened to all those Huntsmen who were killed offscreen in V5 was impossible. They couldn't all just be sent to their deaths. Who would have the authority to send them? A trainee's underlying character was never said to be a factor in the process of becoming a Huntsman other than instilling basic human empathy. Their job is killing and dying. Maybe Miles & Kerry will surprise the audience and have Dee and Dudley actually be competent. It would be nice of them to remember that RWBY & JN_R are really just talented amateurs out in the big bad world.

>>36702

>Comedy may still be a massive tone-shift from other events, but it's alright.

It's not a tone shift at all. These are just the usual comedy bits they start the volume with when reintroducing the characters to the audience. They even had that callback to the V1C8 moment where Nora pushes herself between Ruby and Yang but it goes on too long this time and just ends up being cloying.

>Grimm as a core concept really don't work. If they always existed, why not have everything built up like a fortress.

That's what I meant about things they could have addressed easily, instead they just keep digging. The Lancers in V5C2 were a huge lore problem when you look at the Mistral airships. Now we're potentially sending an unarmed and unarmoured train full of passengers out into the wilderness with just two Huntsmen as security.

And the last time Qrow flashed his scroll at someone (V5C1) the rest of the volume was a long slow slide into mediocrity. Actually, the slide was rather fast.

<The signs are wrong. There's no way Mistral has a train line to Vale. And Shion was destroyed in V4.

<Departure signs disappeared in reverse shot.

<Weiss' scarf is glitching with her hair

<Where'd all her luggage come from?

<Damn! They actually misspelled "Branwen".

There are a lot of ethical issues inherent in cooking up some sort of magic drug to surpress emotion. Especially given their history with the Great War, where it's implied that cracking down on free expression was a large factor in it. I imagine that would be dropped as soon as it was brought up except maybe in Atlas, and even then only maybe.

I'd argue people would go to destroyed locations to rebuild it. Except it's just a small village, and not a city. I don't think I saw a train station nearby. You'd probably go to Vale and then take local transport to the smaller villages.

> Bitch, she's been in Mistral–a civilized city–for a large portion of V5. It could have been easily possible for her to quick go buy some luggage or something between V5 and now. While I'd say her buying up lots of stuff in character- she's supposed to be cut off from her family's money. Not to mention she essentially gave all that up when she ran away from home. Buying lots of luxuries on a dangerous mission can be argued as in character or not based on what she's been through, but she shouldn't be able to afford them all now. We can only assume it's all her stuff since it's all white and near her. If it was different colors and scattered around, you could argue it was supplies for all of them (Dust, weapon parts and repairing tools, camping gear, etc).

> Ruby's voice is perfectly fine you dumbass

People are perfectly valid to not like the voice, and I can see how annoying it can be. I must say you are incredibly insulted that we have issues with the show.

I suspect it'll be a cultural way of suppressing/discouraging negative emotions. Maybe lots of entertainment. The rich/poor divide and Faunus oppression throws a spanner into that, unless it's something like they live outside the city while the rich and elite are behind high walls. But even then, that'd mean they'd last all of 5 seconds.

Depending on when V6 starts it's been way more than a month maybe even more than 2 months in Remnant time since Shion was destroyed. If they have a train that goes there (which makes RNGR walking in V4 even more stupid) then there's no way the public wouldn't have known about it long ago.

Mistral's a kingdom not a city. Because before she was disinherited in V4 it was established back in V3 that daddy cut off her access to Schnee Family funds. At this point in the story she's not supposed to be the little rich girl anymore. And if it's irrelevant why complain about me noting it? What >>36709 said.

The line that Qrow says about Mistral "scraping the bottom of the barrel these days" has been bugging the hell out of me. I get that he was insulting Dee & Dudley to get them to go away. But given the current circumstances Mistral is in, having lost about 30 Huntsmen, it just seems off. And now I'm wondering what sort of cover story would work for a tragedy that big. Is it even a tragedy? The story & characters just seem to be moving on as it it didn't mean anything. The kingdom should be in an even worse state than Leo described (but they never showed) back in V5C1. And if the Dust embargo means anything then trains going anywhere should be less frequent and more crowded. Larger collections of people and a general malaise means more & more frequent Grimm attacks. Which in turn would lead to a heightened security presence. Which makes me ask about Mistral what I asked about Vale: where is the kingdom's military or law enforcement? They always seem to conveniently disappear from the story when needed. We've never seem either kingdom's military. I'm not liking the way things seem to be structured. Everything can't fall on the shoulders of Huntsmen this way. Either they're something special and losing them hurts or they're common as old shoes and no one should mind losing a pair every now and again.

Anyway thanks for reminding me that it's been over a decade since I'd seen Drunken Master II. Time to spin up the old LaserDisc!

A bad soldier is worse than no soldier at all. They get under better soldiers feet, don't listen to superiors or follow tactics, their deaths demoralize civilians thinking they were decent soldiers, and overall act so confident that they're a peg above a civ it actually puts them below a civ with a gun who knows to be scared.

Everything Dee and Dudley did in their introduction showed they were not competent. Now did Miles and Kerry consider all of that when writing it? Past evidence screams fuck no. Otherwise, totally on board with everything else you said.

The energy and resources needed to fix RWBY exceed that of creating a new original universe. At it's core it's (as RT have joked themselves) teenagers vs. monsters. To have the monsters you need a world big on defense- like medieval castle cities (as an anon said in a past thread) to protect the richer population from bandits and wolves, while everyone outside had to rely on a local knight (either hired to stay there, or hired per day/job).

That way Grimm can attack based on any desire because they can't get over the walls. With the above you can keep them almost the same. No need to eat (as evidence when the few times they have stayed in captivity they have not starved), yet will attack and consume. Negative emotions is liked cooked meat to them- overriding all their cunning and instincts to make them attack the source. This can in turn create frenzies if the negative emotional state is big enough, where Grimm will use wave "tactics" to knock down walls and lose self preservation.

Throw in a bit more history lore about the nations and Humans v Faunus and it sounds like I've solved it right? Now imagine re-writing the whole series to get those elements in with Rooster Teeth's budget, incompetent staff (superior, those along side you, those who answer to you). and you're limited to 12 episodes a season or whatever. I haven't even touched on character arcs, how information is revealed and when, and trying to build suspense as well. A "good" RWBY with the best of all the fixes and suggestions would probably suffer audience fatigue with the extra length it'd need unless you're judicious with what to cut.
