Five doctors in New York City have been charged with taking more than $5 million in return for prescribing millions of oxycodone pills to purported patients who had no legitimate medical need for them, according to indictments unsealed in federal court Thursday.

The charges were to be announced at a news conference on Thursday by Geoffrey S. Berman, the United States attorney for the Southern District of New York; James J. Hunt, the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New York office; and James P. O’Neill, the commissioner of the New York Police Department.
The case — another in a line of prosecutions being brought nationally against doctors, drug company executives and drug dealers — is likely to highlight the ways opioids have been aggressively marketed and have contributed to a national epidemic that killed about 72,000 Americans last year.

"A majority of Democratic Senate and House campaigns—along with the DCCC, DSCC, DGA, over one-third of statewide campaigns, and advocacy organizations around the country—have chosen ActBlue," the website adds, noting that the organization has raised $2,862,403,745 for "Democrats and progressive causes" in 14 years.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee slammed Nelson for his "desperate attempt" at trying to win reelection next month. "Bill Nelson has reached a new low in a desperate attempt to save his political career," said NRSC spokesperson Camille Gallo. "While Floridians were trying to save their homes and lives, Bill Nelson used this tragedy as an opportunity to save his taxpayer-funded job by shamelessly using disaster relief efforts to bolster his fundraising operation." This is not the first fundraising email that Nelson sent this week. He sent multiple emails to voters who were within the path of the hurricane with bolded statements, including the captions "Losing Florida would cost Democrats the Senate" and "We can't win without your immediate donation, friends." A decade ago, West Virginia was set to receive millions in a prescription drug settlement from the maker of OxyContin. Manchin, who served as governor from 2004 until 2010, was taking "the lead" on how to spend the $44 million settlement from Purdue Pharma for its misleading claims about the addictiveness of OxyContin. The governor wanted to "think out of the box a little bit" on how to spend the settlement money. "We may want to put forth a good, detailed plan to satisfy those areas [of prevention, awareness, education] but we may be wanting to think out of the box a little bit," said Joe Thornton, Manchin's cabinet secretary for military affairs and public safety. Thornton's comments came in September 2007 just as the state was about to receive its first payment, according to the Charleston Daily Mail. "The governor's office has a keen focus on this being spent in the law enforcement arena in these specific areas and knows what a dent this can put in our drug enforcement efforts throughout the state," Thornton said.
A month earlier, Manchin's administration was busy coming up with ways to spend the settlement funding. A memo circulated by Carte Goodwin, Manchin's chief counsel who he later appointed to fill the vacant seat left by Robert Byrd, included numerous proposed projects. One request came from Manchin himself, marked, "Governor's Helicopter." "Governor wants settlement funding dedicated to purchase a new helicopter," the memo states. I use two tools to make my memes: MS Paint and PowerPoint. I'll start with an image I want to play around with. Usually it involves placing another image over it, such as a face.
I use MS Paint to trace around the image I want to place into my main image (a face in this instance). I use green and I do it manually–coloring everything but the face. Then I copy/paste this green bkg face image to PP. There's a cool background remove feature so it removes the green background (the reason you pick a solid color like green is so the software can easily remove the background).
Now I have my face (just like a transparent png image) and I place where I want it to be. I now add any text I want.
When I'm done, I copy/paste the PP image back to MS Paint, crop if necessary, and save as a jpg. You can also save as image from PP too.
There may be easier ways to do it, but that's how I've done memes such as these:

United States Congressional Bill Bans Venezuela’s Petro, Calls for Global Investigation of Crypto
Just days after Venezuela announced that they are initiating a public sale of the Petro on 5 November 2018, and have completely re-designed it to be an X11 crypto like Dash, the United States Congress has put forth a bill which will completely ban the Petro. In addition, the bill calls for an international investigation of all other cryptocurrencies designed to circumvent international sanctions.
The Venezuelan Petro was already banned by an Executive Order from President Trump of the United States on 19 March 2018. This bill is similar to the executive order, but cements the Petro ban into congressional law and expands on the ban. The primary reason the Petro is being banned by the United States is that the Petro will likely be used to circumvent international sanctions.
The bill is titled Venezuelan Humanitarian Relief, Reconstruction and Rule of Law Act of 2018, and is a bill with many new laws and efforts concerning Venezuela, with a sub-section on cryptocurrency towards the end of the bill. The ban on Petro specifically says “All transactions by a United States person or within the United States that relate to, provide financing for, provide software for, or otherwise deal in any digital currency, digital coin, or digital token, that was issued by, for, or on behalf of the Government of Venezuela are prohibited beginning on the date of the enactment of this Act.” All agencies of the United States government are given permission to enforce this law. The penalties of breaking the law are unknown at this point, but violating this law could be equivalent to an act of treason.
Further, the United States Congress is calling for a global investigation of any cryptocurrency that is being used to violate international sanctions. Specifically, efforts by states, state-sponsored actors, and non-state sponsored actors to circumvent or evade United States sanctions with crypto will be investigated, and the report submitted to Congress within 6 months. The report will include recommendations on how to inhibit crypto from compromising sanctions.
It will certainly be interesting to watch how Venezuela’s Petro survives in the face of the full weight and power of the United States government. This will be a true test of X11 crypto’s ability to send anonymous and secure transactions.

A second team in serious trouble is the old European great KV Mechelen, which won a UEFA title back in the 1980s.
They have recently been relegated to the second division, but it would now appear several of their board members had approached players of other teams as well as two referees to try and arrange matches so they could say in first division last season.
In fact, as European soccer fans know (a similar scandal took place in Italy in the 2000s), in order to fix a match in soccer, all you need to do is approach 4 of the 23 people on the field (11 per team + 1 referee). You pay two defenders and the goalkeeper of the opposing team to make fouls on your players and let in an easy goal and pay the referee to whistle some suspicious penalties.
There are currently 4 matches of last year’s competition which appear to have been fixed.
The Belgian judiciary has decided as of this morning to stop the second division’s competition until further investigation can determine what needs to be done.
Rumors are Brugge would replace their trainer if he is found guilty and Mechelen would either be dropped to a lower division of the authorities would scrap the club from the register altogether.

On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu again addressed the changing strategic situation in Syria after Russia delivered its advanced S-300 missile shield to the army of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.

Hanegbi last week said Israel’s new 'Adir' warplane, a modified version of the American Lockheed F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, was able to carry out combat missions against Iran-related targets in Syria without being detected by the S-300 anti-aircraft batteries.
“You know that we have stealth fighters, the best planes in the world. These batteries (S-300) are not even able to detect them,” Hanegbi told Israeli media.
Last week, Russia delivered the S-300 to Syria in the middle of the night but said it would take another three months before Syrian army officers would be able to operate the missile shield independently.
It appears Israel is now working in tandem with the United States to counter the threat posed by the new Russian-made Syrian anti-aircraft batteries.
During his meeting with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly almost two weeks ago Netanyahu said he had “got everything he wanted from Trump” regarding the crisis with Russia over Syria.
The Israeli-Russian crisis started after the Russian army falsely blamed Israel’s air force (IAF) for the downing of a Ilyushin IL-20 reconnaissance plane which was shot down with a S-200 SAM missile killing 15 Russian servicemen on Sept. 20.

The intercepted discussion of the plan involved two Saudi teams totaling 15 men arriving and departing from Turkey at different times, matching reports from Turkish officials that 15 Saudi agents arrived in Turkey on charter flights, assassinated Khashoggi, disposed of his body and departed.
A former U.S. intelligence official who spoke with WaPo on the condition of anonymity said that the details of the plan discussed by Saudi officials bear the hallmarks of a “rendition,” or an operation to illegally extradite someone from one country and transport them to another in order to interrogate them. Turkish officials believe that something went wrong with the operation and that Arab agents killed Khashoggi inside the consulate. An anonymous Turkish official also asserted that the Saudi agents dismembered Khashoggi’s body with a bone saw and disposed of the pieces.
The Saudi government has denied any involvement in Khashoggi disappearance and claims that he left the consulate unharmed through the rear entrance, though they have provided no evidence to back up their claim. The Saudis have also refused to answer U.S. officials’ questions concerning Khashoggi’s disappearance, straining the relationship between Riyadh and the Trump administration.
Surveillance footage shows Khashoggi entering the consulate, but Turkish officials say there is no footage of him leaving. The journalist has yet to be found.
Khashoggi often criticized the Saudi government, including Mohammed bin Salman, and believed that it was not safe for him to return to Saudi Arabia. Close friends of the journalist reported that several senior Saudi officials contacted Khashoggi over the last four months with promises of protection and offers for him to return to the country. Khashoggi believed none of their offers.
“He said: ‘Are you kidding? I don’t trust them one bit,'” Khaled Saffuri, an Arab American political activist, recounted Khashoggi saying after speaking with Saud al-Qahtani, an adviser to the royal court.
A friend also reported that a Saudi businessman who is close to the royal family seemed “keen” to visit with Khashoggi any time he came to DC and told the journalist that he would work with Saudi authorities to allowK hashoggi’s safe return to the country.
Given the U.S. intelligence intercepts describing the Saudi plan to detain Khashoggi, some have questioned whether U.S. intelligence agencies were negligent in their “duty to warn” the journalist of the plot, as they are obligated to do in any case when it is known that a person, U.S. citizen or otherwise, may be kidnapped, injured, or killed.

Russia has offered the United States to make written commitments about non-interference in each other's affairs as Moscow is ready to give such guarantees "at any time," but Washington has shown no such desire, Georgy Borisenko, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department of North America, told Sputnik.

According to the official, Moscow made a similar proposal to Washington in June, even before the summit in Helsinki.
"We sent a draft of such a letter to our US colleagues so that they could consider it. The United States rejected it… We are ready to give them written guarantees at any time, but the US shows no such desire," Borisenko said.
The United States has repeatedly accused Russia of interference in the 2016 presidential election and is investigating Trump's team members' alleged links to the Kremlin.
Russia, for its part, has refuted all the accusations, calling such claims groundless.

The disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi last Tuesday is threatening to upend the terms of the decades-long alliance between the United States and Saudi Arabia. Emphasis on 'self-imposed'. Contrary to official myth, the vast majority of 'Russian oligarchs' in London went there by choice, although there are certainly grounds for the Russian state to want them in court to answer for their part in the 'plundering 90s'.
In March, a year after Russia put him on the country's so-called London List of most-wanted fugitives, Kapchuk-Windsor went on the run again - this time back into the arms of the countrymen he once feared. He worried Britain wanted to kill him and finger the Kremlin for the crime.
Just about everyone contacted for this article, including fellow exiles and even a KGB veteran, say Kapchuk's claim that U.K. operatives are hunting Russian emigres is outlandish. But his narrative, told over multiple interviews in Moscow, fits the Kremlin line that even former fugitives are safer at home these days than in the West, where Russian wealth is increasingly vulnerable to sanctions.

Facebook is again being called out for purging political accounts too far left and right of center, after it removed more than 800 pages just in time for the 2018 midterm elections. Some had millions of followers.
Many of the affected pages were supposedly sharing links between groups using fake accounts, which then clicked "Like" on the posts, artificially upping their engagement numbers. This "inauthentic behavior" violates Facebook's anti-spam policies and goes against "what people expect" from Facebook, the company said.

In August, Facebook deleted 652 accounts after cybersecurity firm FireEye claimed they were linked to Iran.
After it emerged that political research firm Cambridge Analytica had used publicly-available user data to target possible Trump voters, CEO Mark Zuckerberg dismissed the idea that social media manipulation played a significant role in the 2016 US presidential election. Since then, however, the company has been playing catch-up, trying to preempt government regulation by banning and blocking any user who deviates from an increasingly narrow centrism.
Remembering the days when Facebook was all about cat videos and clickbaity headlines, one cannot help but link the sense of social responsibility it's suddenly developing to how US lawmakers have set their sights on social media platforms. In April, Zuckerberg had to endure House and Senate hearings, taking cringe-worthy questions from politicians who at time seemed to barely know what a social network is and how it works.
Meanwhile, mainstream media fearmongering is already kicking in. The New York Times – an outlet Facebook is unlikely to delist for posting misleading content anytime soon – has cited "experts" to accuse these domestic US pages of "emulating the Russian strategy of 2016" by creating and amplifying clickbait.

Step 4. They sold off the industry to foreign backed members of the Young Communists who supposedly orchestrated the end of the Soviet Union, although in reality they were TRUMPED by the 3 presidents of Belarus, Ukraine and Russia.
The Industrialization was a rip off orchestrated by a group of Harvard American crooks. This is called a gambit in chess because the Russians let it happen.
Of course the Westerners tried to shut down the defence factories, either by not paying workers, or by firing everybody.
At this point, the military and KGB stepped in. They organized the workers to keep the factories going. Since the workers did not need wages because they owned their homes free and clear, it was workable. Some money came to help people in dire straits but most families got by with one spouse working outside the defence sector to feed the family. ANd the municpalities were encouraged to not pressure people to pay utilities for years.
The end result is the westerners though the defence establisment and military was virtually shut down. But in reality it had gone stealth and was working on newer more modern weapons systems. Things like electronic warfare systems that were more advanced than anything in the world. The work was done in secret companies, with cover names, and the money came from outside the normal government budget. And because Russia was in a depressed state, everything they needed was 10 times cheaper than in the USA.
Most of the world didn't have a clue until they entered Syria and showed off all their new aircraft, tanks and other land vehicles, missiles, etc.

Construction workers last week put up the final panel of a new border barrier in Calexico, Calif., a project touted by President Trump as the first part of his promised wall between Mexico and the U.S.
Almost two years into Trump’s presidency, Congress has so far avoided funding a full-fledged border wall. The approximate $1.6 billion infunding that has been awarded to border construction has focused on replacement barrier projects with restrictions about the type of structures that could be built with the money.
That meant that the Trump administration couldn’t build barriers that resemble the wall prototypes that were erected last year in Otay Mesa.
Whether the Calexico barrier is actually part of Trump’s promised wall has been heavily debated since the project was announced in February.
The estimated $18-million project replaced just over two miles of a 1990s barrier made of Vietnam War-era military aircraft landing mats with 30-foot bollards — poles placed close together to restrict entry but allow people on either side to see through.
While Department of Homeland Security officials previously called existing border barriers “fences,” after construction began in Calexico, they began to refer to both old and new structures as part of a “border wall” and more recently “border wall system.”
Gloria Chavez, chief of the El Centro sector of the U.S. Border Patrol, said the new Calexico barrier is “a solid first step in strengthening our border security posture.”
“The border wall will greatly enhance our agents’ ability to detect and arrest those entering the country illegally,” Chavez said, adding that she believes it will also have a positive impact on the surrounding border communities.
Planning for the barrier replacement project began in 2009, but funding and construction came under the Trump administration. The only characteristic the new structure shares with Trump’s border wall prototypes is its height. At 30 feet, it towers over older fencing in the El Centro sector, which at the highest rises to about 20 feet.
