1) Any economist worth his salt knows that subsidizing any industry introduces perverse incentives into the market.

2) Ethanol production fucks up the entire ag marketplace. Corn is being produced that can be used for feed for cattle. Farmers benefit, but everyone else pays more for food.

3) Most of the arguments about "helping our poor farmers" are bullshit. 90% of food crops are produced by huge corporate farms… the myth of the "family farm" must end.

4) Ethanol causes you to get WORSE gas mileage, to the point where it costs MORE PER MILE to operate your vehicle.

I drive a 2008 Chevy Impala V6, 3500 Flex fuel vehicle.

- E85 gives me 15MPG @ $2.40/Gal

- E10 Low Grade 87 Octane gives me 20MPG @ $2.75/Gal

- Non-ethanol 91 Octane gives me 26MPG @ $3/Gal

What you do is take that price per gallon divided by the miles you get per gallon to arrive at a "price per mile" figure.

E85 = 2.40 / 15 = $0.16 / mile

E10 = 2.75 / 20 = $0.1375 / mile

Non-Ethanol = 3 / 26 = $0.1154 / mile

That's a HUGE difference in operating costs per mile! Ethanol is a HUGE boondoggle!

With water absorbing into the fuel, there's the chance that rust will form on the interior of the engine. The particles that get into the gas from rust flakes will clog up the fuel filter sooner. It's possible that these particles can cause extra wear to the pistons, rings, seals, and any number of other components of the engine.

Ethanol increases gasoline vapor pressure which may cause a vapor lock in a carburetor. This fuel starvation will prevent the engine from starting. This is an issue in higher altitudes and hot weather.

Gasoline with ethanol decreases the life of the engine and its parts. The alcohol is not good for seals and causes a quicker break-down.

Having a cleaning agent like this constantly in a small engine that was not engineered for this fuel mixture simply ages it at a faster rate.

Unlike many in the nation’s capital, acknowledgement seems less important to Bernhardt than behind-the-scenes power. And the latter he has. As Zinke ticked off the accomplishments of his first year—fulfilling the president’s vision for “energy dominance,” selling off public lands, and taking on the Endangered Species Act—he might as well have been naming feathers in Bernhardt’s cap. This stout, unobtrusive, middle-aged man in square glasses has been one of the most effective officials in the Trump administration, and after 14 months on the job, he appears to be within striking distance of taking over the department that oversees a fifth of the nation’s landmass.

Smart and generally well-liked by his colleagues, Bernhardt is regarded, with grudging respect from environmentalists, as the “brains behind the agency.”

“I found David to be very direct, precise and guarded,” says Dan Wenk, the former superintendent of Yellowstone National Park who had spent 43 years at the department and retired in September. “He understands how the Department of Interior works; he understands how to get things done.” Athan Manuel, who directs the Sierra Club’s Lands Protection Program, notes, “He’s not just a mouthpiece of the secretary. He’s the guy doing the dirty work.”
