On the one-year anniversary of the deadly Charlottesville protests, white supremacists and radical leftists known as Antifa descended on the Virginia town once more to commit more violence. Late Saturday night, NBC News reporter Cal Perry and his crew were in the thick of it as Antifa members ganged up on them and attacked. The next morning, NBC’s Sunday Today ignored the attack and suggested the media was simply “heckled” by their assaulters.

On Twitter, Perry was documenting the protesters as they marched through the streets of college town when they started to get “very aggressive with the media” and trying to block their camera shots. “Yeah. We’re getting a lot of this. Protesters trying to grab our camera,” he responded to one Twitter commenter telling him to “f**k off national media vulture.”

Department of Children and Families Secretary Mike Carroll sent a letter Friday to Gov. Rick Scott, saying he will leave office Sept. 6, four months before the next governor could have picked a replacement. Carroll has worked at the agency for 28 years and took over in 2014.

DCF has long been troubled. The Miami Herald earlier this year found 477 children have died since 2008 after their families came under DCF investigation. A Tampa Bay Times and Sarasota Herald-Tribune investigation in 2015 found that 15 patients had died and almost 1,000 had been hurt at the state’s mental facilities.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Often it's the United States giving financial aid to disaster-stricken nations. But now Jacksonville is set to get $2.7 million in foreign aid to help parts of the city hardest hit by Hurricane Irma.

The grant funding is part of a larger relief effort from the United Arab Emirates that would award a total of $10 million to storm-ravaged communities throughout the state of Florida.

"This is what friends do for each other in times of need, and is why the UAE is excited to be working with Jacksonville on a proposal that would help communities across the city," said UAE Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba in a statement given to the Jacksonville Daily Record.

Marsha Oliver, spokesperson for Mayor Lenny Curry, said the city was invited to apply for the grant, which was awarded after UAE representatives visited in March.

"We are incredibly delighted for this opportunity to help rebuild and strengthen citizens and communities most impacted by Hurricane Irma," Oliver said in part

Over 100 Newspapers Collude To Decry Trump's "Dirty War On The Free Press"

Yesterday, we noted The Boston Globe's 'call to action' for the nation's newspapers to collude to fight back against what they called Trump's "dirty war against the free press."

"We propose to publish an editorial on August 16 on the dangers of the administration's assault on the press and ask others to commit to publishing their own editorials on the same date," The Globe said in its pitch to fellow papers.

Today we see the results.

As of today, CNN reports that Marjorie Pritchard, the Globe's deputy editorial page editor, says "we have more than 100 publications signed up, and I expect that number to grow in the coming days."

The American Society of News Editors, the New England Newspaper and Press Association and other groups have helped her spread the word.

"The response has been overwhelming," Pritchard said. "We have some big newspapers, but the majority are from smaller markets, all enthusiastic about standing up to Trump's assault on journalism."

Instead of printing the exact same message, each publication will write its own editorial, Pritchard said. That was a key part of her pitch:

"The impact of Trump's assault on journalism looks different in Boise than it does in Boston," she wrote. "Our words will differ. But at least we can agree that such attacks are alarming."

Pritchard said she expects differing views from the editorials, "but the same sentiment: The importance of a free and independent press."

CNN proudly crows that the coordinated editorials may be another example of unity across the news business, or, as we noted previously, another example of supreme hypocrisy - as a 'free and independent' press being coerced to collude on the same story against their President.

Finally, the 'media' should be a little careful what they wish for, as Axios show below, the Trump news cycle is paying their bills handsomely.

Sparks flew on the set of NBC’s Meet the Press Sunday morning as CNBC’s Rick Santelli accused moderator Chuck Todd of picking sides during the election. The confrontation occurred during a conversation about Russian meddling in the election and claims that intercepted communications showing their glee for Donald Trump’s victory. “To see Russians happy because Trump won: On election night, I never saw you so unhappy. Agreed, let’s get to the facts such as Mitchell’s adoration for Hillary Clinton. Throughout the campaign Mitchell often played defense for Clinton when it came to her foundation, referring to it as merely a “headache.” She was distraught after FBI Director James Comey reopened their investigation into Clinton’s e-mails, and claimed history was “put on hold again” after her loss to Trump. She also seemed to desperately hope Jill Stein’s recount in swing states would turn things around for Clinton.
