It's kind of fun to watch the MSM carry out Inoculation Theory. This is the point where it has to happen to be effective. Knowing how/why they lie, malign, distort, etc., is key to overcoming their efforts. Congrats to QAnon for rising in threat level enough for them to apply this powerful tool. Basics on wiki.

There are four basic key components to successful inoculation: threat, refutational preemption, delay, and involvement.

The first is threat, which provides motivation to protect one's attitudes or beliefs (Pfau, 1997a). Threat is a product of the presence of counterarguments in an inoculation message and/or an explicit forewarning of an impending challenge to an existing belief (see Compton & Ivanov, 2012). The message receiver must interpret that a message is threatening and recognize that there is a reason to fight to maintain and strengthen their opinion. If the receiver of an opposing message does not recognize that a threat is present, they will not feel the need to start defending their position and therefore will not change their attitude or strengthen their opinion (Banas & Rains, 2010, p. 285). Compton and Ivanov (2012) found that participants who had been forewarned of an attack–i.e. threat–but not given the appropriate tools to combat the attack were more resistant than the control group. In this case, the simple act of forewarning of an attack was enough to resist the counterattitudinal persuasion.

The second component, refutational preemption, is the cognitive part of the process. It is the ability to activate one's own argument for future defense and strengthen their existing attitudes through counterarguing (Pfau, 1997). Scholars have also explored whether other resistance processes might be at work, including affect. Refutational preemption provides specific content that receivers can employ to strengthen attitudes against subsequent change. This aids in the inoculation process by giving the message receiver a chance to argue with the opposing message. It shows the message receiver that their attitude is not the only attitude or even the right attitude, creating a threat to their beliefs. This is beneficial because the receiver will get practice in defending their original attitude, therefore strengthening it. This is important in fighting off future threats of opposing messages and helps to ensure that the message will not affect their original stance on the issues (Banas & Rains, 2010, p. 285). Refutational preemption acts as the weak strain of the virus in the metaphor. By injecting the weakened virus–the opposing opinion–into a receiver, this prompts the receiver to strengthen their position, enabling them to fight off the opposing threat. By the time the body processes the virus–the counterattack–the receiver will have learned how to eliminate the threat. In the case of messaging, if the threatening message is weak or unconvincing, a person can reject the message and stick with their original stance on the matter. By being able to reject threatening messages a person builds strength of their belief and every successful threatening message that they can encounter their original opinions only get stronger (Banas & Rains, 2010, p. 285). Recent research has studied the presence and function of word-of-mouth communication, or post-inoculation talk (see Compton & Pfau, 2009), following exposure to inoculation messages (e.g., Ivanov et al., 2015).

Delay is the next element that is necessary in the inoculation process. There has been much debate on whether there is a certain amount of time necessary between inoculation and further attacks on a persons' attitude that will be most effective in strengthening that person's attitude. McGuire (1961) suggested that delay was necessary strengthening a person's attitude and since then many scholars have found evidence to back that idea up. There are also scholars on the other side who suggest that too much of a delay lessens the strengthening effect of inoculation. With this being said, it has been revealed that the effect of inoculation can still be significant weeks or even months after initial introduction or the treatment showing that it does produce somewhat long-lasting effects (Banas & Rains, 2010).

Involvement is the final element of the inoculation process. Pfau, et al. (1997a) defined involvement as "the importance or salience of an attitude object for a receiver" and is “among the most important and widely employed concepts in the scholarly literature on persuasion” (p. 190). Involvement is critical; an individual's involvement with an issue determines how effective the inoculation process will be, if at all. If an individual does not have a vested interest in the subject, they will not perceive a threat and, consequently, will not feel the need to defend and strengthen their original opinion, rendering the inoculation process ineffective.

“Symantec has uncovered the operations of a threat actor named Leafminer that is targeting a broad list of government organizations and business verticals in various regions in the Middle East,” stated a threat intelligence report by Symantec.

Operations reportedly began in early 2017 but has increased since the end of last year.

“Leafminer is a highly active group, responsible for targeting a range of organizations across the Middle East.

“The group appears to be based in Iran and seems to be eager to learn from, and capitalize on, tools and techniques used by more advanced threat actors.”

The report also said an investigation into Leafminer revealed a list, written in Farsi, of 809 systems targeted by the hackers.

“Targeted regions included in the list are Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, and Afghanistan.”

The report said the attackers were looking for e-mail data, files and database servers on their target systems in financial, government, energy, airlines, construction, telecommunication and other sectors in the region.

Symantec said it was able to identify Leafminer after discovering a compromised web server that was used in several different attacks.

“It [the cyber espionage group] made a major blunder in leaving a staging server publicly accessible, exposing the group’s entire arsenal of tools.

“That one misstep provided us with a valuable trove of intelligence to help us better defend our customers against further Leafminer attacks.”

IGA said, in a statement to the GDN yesterday, that part of its job was to monitor any report issued by security vendors such as Symantec regarding any threat actors targeting the region.

BRIAR CREEK TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Pennsylvania State Police arrested a man from Oklahoma in Columbia County after police learned he heard voices in his head telling him to kill President Donald Trump and his family.

This all comes as the president is due in Luzerne County on Thursday.

People living in the community of Briar Creek near Berwick were surprised to learn that someone would travel all the way from Oklahoma to tell someone that he wants to kill the president.

As it turns out, that wasn't the only unusual part of the story.

Troopers arrested Jeffrey Boyd, 55, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, for making threats against President Trump.

"I was shocked, and I called my mom right away because I had to tell somebody what was going on. She was like, 'Well if they've got a gun drawn, it's something major.' And I'm like, 'Yeah, the question is how major and what is it?' " said Lacey Garrison of Berwick.

Authorities say a woman went to state police in Shickshinny and told them she is an active Trump supporter on Twitter and had communicated a few times with Jeffrey Boyd.

She told troopers that on Monday, Boyd showed up at her front door. She agreed to have lunch with him the next day.

The owner of Hog's Hollow Saloon near Briar Creek tells Newswatch 16 that Boyd and the woman had lunch there on Tuesday. He ran into Boyd in the parking lot and said he was acting confused and manic.

According to state police, the woman said Boyd told her at lunch that the CIA is doing tests on him and that he is hearing voices in his head telling him to kill President Trump and his family.

"It's a scary thought that someone would come from Tulsa to get to this area just to hunt down the president, so those are scary things," said Bob Reap of Berwick.

After hearing her story, troopers searched for Boyd and found him in the parking lot of a grocery store in Briar Creek. They searched his vehicle and found a loaded gun and extra ammunition.

Boyd is locked up in Columbia County, but the incident makes people in the area uneasy.

"We moved here from New Jersey, and I thought, 'Who's gonna bomb a cow?' Like I'd rather live here than close to New York. But when it's like that, it's like, OK, this is too close, very close," said Lynda Cartier of Briar Creek.

Boyd is locked up on $1 million bail.

Silicon Valley’s favorite compensation strategy – paying top employees in stock rather than cash – just got more expensive.

A recent U.S. federal court ruling means companies such as Facebook Inc. and Alphabet Inc.’s Google won’t be able to deduct the full cost of the stock payments they make to employees when calculating their corporate tax bills, which they’ve done for years.

Instead, they’ll have to allocate some of the expense to their foreign subsidiaries, usually in tax havens such as the Cayman Islands, where the deduction is nearly worthless because they don’t have much of a tax liability there.

For Facebook, the change means the struggling social media giant could face a tax rate as high as 30 percent in the third quarter, compared to the new corporate rate of 21 percent. That’s because the company has to make up for previous quarters and pay additional taxes for when it deducted more of the stock-based compensation than the court decision allows, according to a regulatory filing. In the third quarter of 2017, it paid a rate of just 10 percent.

Facebook hasn’t yet disclosed what it will actually owe in the third quarter as a result of the court ruling.

‘Huge Number’

“It’s going to be a huge number,” Robert Willens, an independent tax consultant in New York, said referring to Facebook’s liability. “This also means the loss of certainly several hundred millions of deductions each quarter going forward. It could even be $1 billion."

A spokeswoman for Facebook declined to comment.

Technology firms rely on stock-based compensation because it gives employees and executives an opportunity to share in the growth of the company without burning through the cash the company has on hand. Investors also like it because it can encourage employees to think about market value in addition to product development.

“This is a big Silicon Valley issue and there is a lot of money at stake,” said David Fischer, a tax litigator at Crowell & Moring.

How much the stock compensation deduction is limited by will vary based on companies’ agreements about sharing costs between U.S. and foreign entities, but tax lawyers say it’s likely that at least half their deductions going forward will be capped.

Companies aren’t likely to stop paying employees with stock, so it’s a tax hit they’ll probably just be forced to absorb, according to Clinton Wallace, a law professor at the University of South Carolina.

‘Material’ Impact

The court ruling that affects deductions for stock-based compensation involved an Intel Corp. subsidiary, Altera Corp., and its cost-sharing agreement with a subsidiary in the Cayman Islands. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against Intel by overturning a Tax Court decision that had been favorable to the company.

The tax benefits tied to stock-based compensation can figure prominently in a company’s tax bill. Facebook’s deduction decreased its tax liability by $1.25 billion and the company’s effective tax rate by 6 percentage points, according to an annual regulatory filing last year.

Alphabet paid $7.7 billion in stock-based compensation, yielding a $1.7 billion deduction in 2017, according to a regulatory filing. Apple Inc. valued the tax benefit for equity compensation at $1.6 billion last year.

Semiconductor developer Silicon Laboratories Inc. said in a recent filing that it’s reviewing the court decision and the outcome “could be material” to financial statements.

Controversial Case

It’s possible the case could get a rehearing in the Ninth Circuit with a new panel of judges. One of the three judges, Stephen Roy Reinhardt – known as the "liberal lion"– died between the hearing and the release of the court’s opinion.

Tech firms could get a reprieve if the case is elevated to the Supreme Court, where a conservative bench of judges could be interested in overturning a Ninth Circuit decision, according to Patrick J. Smith, a partner at law firm Ivins, Phillips & Barker.

“The conventional wisdom is that any controversial case that Judge Reinhardt heard is something that they’re going to look at closely,” Smith said. “Any judge that President Trump is going to nominate is going to have the mindset to look carefully at the Ninth Circuit.”

By itself this video proves nothing. At the beginning of November 2016 members of a "rebel" militia in Aleppo put up this fog generator - apparently in order to rather senselessly thwart aerial attacks. However, it conjures up a memory of many massacre marketing videos provided by Syria's "rebels" that supposedly show clouds of "chlorine gas". A look at the multitude of perfectly lit shots of "rescues" by the "White Helmets" also feature clouds of dust - but just the right amount of it and in the right spot so as to not disturb the image. Much of the footage and images from Syria come from "rebel" sources. Some or most of it could be staged.
