Russia will respond to any deployment in Lithuania of nuclear weapons aimed at the country by adjusting its own posture accordingly, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has warned.

The Baltic NATO state is currently moving to abolish a constitutional ban on hosting weapons of mass destruction, which President Gitanas Nauseda described as outdated in July. Speaking to Russian TV on Friday, Peskov said Vilnius would cause another rise in tensions with the proposed move.

“If you host nuclear weapons, they are aimed at somebody. Those won’t be aimed to the west. They will be aimed to the east, i.e. at us,” Peskov said. Consequently, “our nuclear weapons will be aimed at” the hosting nation.

Lithuanian media has described the proposed constitutional reform, which could be approved as soon as this winter, ascreating a legal framework for a proposed EU nuclear-sharing scheme. France, the only nuclear power in the economic bloc, is considering moving some of its weapons to other member states.

NATO already has a nuclear-sharing arrangement under which US nuclear bombs are stored in non-nuclear countries, including Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Türkiye, and the UK.

Earlier this week, a Lithuanian parliamentary committee on legal affairs approved a proposal to amend the constitution, with two MPs voting against. The opposition argued that the change should be put to a referendum, while Nauseda’s government said approval by parliament is sufficient. Constitutional amendments in Lithuania require two separate votes in parliament at least three months apart.

The provision outlawing weapons of mass destruction also bans foreign military bases and was included in the basic law to safeguard the post-Soviet republic’s neutrality. Lithuania joined NATO in 2004 along with Latvia and Estonia. Germany is currently working to deploy a heavy tank brigade in the country.

Russia has described NATO’s expansion in Europe as a key cause of current tensions with the US-led military bloc. Moscow views the forward deployment of nuclear-capable weapons near Russia’s borders as a major risk because it significantly reduces the time available to determine whether a detected attack is a false alarm or an actual strike warranting nuclear retaliation.

MADE IN CHINA DISASTER: Chinese-Origin Tank Explodes During Bangladesh Army Live-Fire Exercise — Two Soldiers Killed, Officer Seriously Injured

A routine Bangladesh Army training exercise turned deadly Wednesday when a Chinese-origin tank suddenly exploded while firing, killing two soldiers and seriously injuring an officer.

The deadly blast occurred at the Hathazari Field Firing Range in Chattogram, according to Bangladesh’s Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate.

The injured officer was initially transported to the Combined Military Hospital in Chattogram before being airlifted to Dhaka for advanced treatment.

The Economic Times reported that the vehicle involved was a Chinese-origin Type 59 tank—an aging platform derived from the Soviet-era T-54.

The Times of India also identified the tank as a Type 59.

However, the Bangladesh military did not identify the model in its initial statement, and at least one separate report described the vehicle as a Type 69IIG. The precise model has therefore not been independently confirmed.

The tank reportedly exploded while its crew was conducting a live-fire exercise.

Several of Tebb’s friends and acquaintances had succumbed to cancer, and incidences were “increasing at an alarming rate.”

SIR,—As the medical journals are reluctant to give currency to suggestions which, throw discredit on certain dogmas of the orthodox medical church, I venture to ask permission, in the interest of the public health, to address your readers on a subject of admitted public importance, the causation of the remarkable and mysterious recrudescence of cancer during the past 30 years. And surely, sir, the study of the sources of any malady, particularly one of so grave and destructive a character, is as well deserving of consideration as the multitudinous but abortive attempts to effect a cure.

The final months of 2026 will bring six major meteor showers, including the Geminids in December, one of the best opportunities of the year to see shooting stars.

As autumn nights grow longer, there will be more opportunities to look up and catch a shooting star. Six major meteor showers are still ahead in 2026, including one of the best of the entire year.

From October's Orionids to the prolific Geminids in December, here are the major meteor showers still to come this year.

Orionids: Oct. 21-22

One of the best meteor showers of autumn will peak on the night of Oct. 21 into the early morning of Oct. 22, with around 20 meteors per hour possible.

Halley's Comet is responsible for the Orionids. Each year, Earth passes through debris left behind by the famous comet during previous trips around the sun, causing tiny particles to burn brightly as they enter the atmosphere.

The shower is named after the constellation Orion, which appears near the point in the sky where the shooting stars seem to originate. The best viewing typically comes during the second half of the night, when Orion is higher in the sky.

The timing of the Orionids gives the shower an advantage over meteor showers later in the year, as October nights are typically not as cold as those in November and December.

Southern and Northern Taurids: Nov. 4-5 and Nov. 11-12

The Southern Taurids will peak on the night of Nov. 4-5, followed one week later by the Northern Taurids on Nov. 11-12. Both showers typically produce around five meteors per hour.

Those rates may sound underwhelming compared with other major showers, but the Taurids are known for occasionally producing fireballs, exceptionally bright meteors that can briefly illuminate the night sky.

Another advantage is that both showers have broad peaks lasting several nights. That gives onlookers more flexibility to check the AccuWeather forecast and choose a night with fewer clouds, rather than relying on a single date.

The two showers also overlap, providing multiple opportunities to catch a bright meteor during the first half of November.

NASA will conduct flyovers, astronaut appearances, and fan engagement at NFL games across the United States as part of its new Inspiration Tour.

“This is the first season NASA is taking part in flyovers at NFL games, bringing the excitement of America’s space program directly to fans across the country,” said NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman.

“We’re returning to the Moon, building a Moon Base, advancing fission-powered spacecraft, and pushing the boundaries in aeronautics, science, and discovery.

Flyovers scheduled at some of the games will showcase NASA’s fleet of aircraft, which are used for high-speed testing, high-altitude research, astronaut training, and more.

Regularly flying the aircraft maintains the health of the fleet and publicly demonstrates new technologies that may be applied to future commercial air travel.

With stops across the nation and led by Isaacman, NASA’s Inspiration Tour convenes academic, industry, and public sector stakeholders to connect the agency with the people, technologies, and organizations that drive American leadership in space.

The tour will culminate in MAX POWER, a public exposition of American air and space innovation, Nov. 7 and Nov. 8, on and near the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Held in honor of America’s historic 250th anniversary, the multi-day, family-friendly event will showcase the next-generation aircraft, spacecraft, autonomous vehicles, and technologies that will help define the future of transportation in air and space.

After Latest Swing Past Sun, NASA’s Parker Solar Probe Checks in

NASA’s Parker Solar Probe completed its 29th close approach to the Sun on Sept. 4, again matching its record speed and distance from the solar surface.

This time, the spacecraft trained its camera on structures and activity near the Sun’s north pole.

The spacecraft transmitted a beacon tone indicating that its systems were operating normally on Sept. 7.

Flying around the Sun on a trajectory that limited communications with Earth, Parker had been out of contact and operating autonomously, as planned, for nine days centered around closest approach.

The flyby, which brought Parker to within 3.8 million miles of the Sun at a top speed of 430,000 miles per hour, allowed the spacecraft to race through and sample almost 40% of the solar circumference within one day during this encounter.

During this solar encounter, which started Aug. 30 and ended Sept. 9, Parker’s four scientific instrument packages gathered data from inside the Sun’s atmosphere, or corona.

Parker will begin returning detailed spacecraft telemetry on Friday, Sept. 11, with science data transmission set to run from Sunday, Sept. 13 through Sunday, Sept. 27.

The spacecraft’s observations of the solar wind and solar events, such as coronal mass ejections and the aftermaths of flares, are critical to advancing humanity’s understanding of the Sun and the phenomena that drive high-energy space weather events that pose risks to astronauts, satellites, air travel, and even power grids on Earth.

Understanding the fundamental physics of space weather enables more reliable forecasts, helping protect astronauts during future deep-space missions to the Moon and Mars.

Parker Solar Probe launched in August 2018.

At the time, the Sun was near the minimum of its 11-year activity cycle. In 2024, representatives from NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the international Solar Cycle Prediction Panel announced that the Sun had reached its solar maximum period.

Parker’s 29 encounters with the Sun reflect this change over time, sampling the Sun’s atmosphere from quiet to very active periods. Parker Solar Probe will remain in this orbit around the Sun and continue making observations into the declining phase of solar activity.

The Parker Solar Probe mission has been extended into 2029 as a result of the 2026 Heliophysics Senior Review.

Parker Solar Probe was developed as part of NASA’s Living With a Star program to explore aspects of the Sun-Earth system that directly affect life and society.
