IDF strikes terrorist planning imminent attack in northern Gaza Strip, IDF reports

The IDF killed a terrorist in the northern Gaza Strip on Thursday, who was planning to attack troops imminently, the military announced.

According to the IDF, steps were taken to mitigate harm to civilians prior to the strike, including the use of precise munitions and aerial surveillance.

Lebanon parliament speaker supports Hezbollah pullback in parallel with Israeli withdrawal

Lebanon's parliament speaker and Hezbollah ally Nabih Berri said on Friday he would agree to the withdrawal of the Iranian proxy terror group from southern Lebanon if Israeli troops simultaneously left territory they occupy in the country.

In written comments distributed by his office, Berri criticized the US-mediated ceasefire framework announced this week as unfair, saying it should have included an "unconditional ceasefire by land, sea and air."

He added that he "agrees to… Hezbollah's withdrawal from south of the Litani River, in parallel with the Israeli withdrawal from the areas it occupied."

UN doubles Lebanon aid appeal as war drives surge in humanitarian needs

The United Nations on Friday said it is doubling the amount of money it says it needs to help Lebanon meet surging humanitarian needs, as the war enters its fourth month.

The UN on Friday will launch a fresh aid appeal with the Lebanese government to seek an additional $331.5 million to reach 1.4 million people, bringing the total appeal to $639.9 million.

So far, it has received $185.9 million as of May 31.

Netanyahu will bring Hezbollah agreement to Security Cabinet if one is agreed, PM tells ministers

Ben-Gvir, Eli Cohen, and other ministers called for harsher measures against Hezbollah, while Finance Minister Smotrich argued that a ceasefire under current conditions would be a major success.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu led a meeting of the Security Cabinet on Thursday, discussing Israel's plans for military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Netanyahu told those present that there is "no agreement at the moment, and therefore I am not bringing it [to the Security Cabinet] for approval, because Hezbollah has opposed [an agreement]."

"If Hezbollah agrees [to a deal], I will bring it for your approval," Netanyahu told the officials.

Mullin said providing counter-drone protections for these so-called “soft areas” has been one of his biggest concerns as DHS works to ensure the safety of all World Cup-related site.

“When we start talking about the soft areas, having great cooperation with local law enforcement is vitally important to us,” he said. “We’ve asked for some states to help with National Guard. They could use it for a training event if they wanted to on some of these weekends.”

Mullin blamed the partial government shutdown as having had a big impact on the department’s ability to prepare counter-UAS operations in time for the start of the World Cup games.

The shutdown, which took place from February 14 to April 30, resulted in the closure of most non-essential DHS operations and slowed the department’s efforts to fund counter-UAS programs.

“We had to start prioritizing when we came back alive after 76 days of being shut down,” he said.

As a result of the shutdown, DHS didn’t have the employees needed for the department to be able to issue the $250 million FEMA grant money that had been earmarked for FIFA host cities and for the Washington, D.C. region, where many America250 events are slated to take place.

He said that as a result of the slowdown in funding, DHS has had to delay its longer-term plans to stand up the counter-UAS operations it plans to put in place in time for the 2028 Olympics to be held in Las Angeles.

“We’re not totally caught up, but we’re close to being caught up. And as soon as FIFA’s over, July 19, we will be able to start focusing on the Olympics again,” he said.

Role played by National Counter UAS Training Center

Mullin praised the role the FBI’s National Counter UAS Training Center at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville; Alabama is playing in the development of DHS’s broader counter-drone strategy.

The NCUTC has trained 60 state and local law enforcement officers from all over the country and qualified them in the use of drone-mitigation technology.

“Quite frankly, we’re going to be bringing people from all over the world, to be able to train in this facility,” Mullin stated.

Representative Michael McCaul, a senior member and former chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, questioned Mullin as to whether DHS was prepared to deal with potential drone threats from terrorist organizations or rogue state actors.

“My biggest concern are the drone threats as we’ve seen from Iranian Shahed drones,” the Texas Republican said. He added that he feared that the type of drone warfare seen in Ukraine and Russia could be duplicated with a similar attack on U.S soil.

Mullin said that such attacks were a major concern of his as well, and that federal security and intelligence agencies are working tirelessly to forestall such a scenario. But he also said he was worried about the potential harm that could be inflicted by a single misguided drone operator.

“The lone individual that’s got this crazy mindset about him — maybe it’s because of too much alcohol, maybe it’s because of the temperature, maybe it’s because his team lost, maybe because he’s too excited — whatever it is, those areas do concern me,” he said.

“But we have a lot of partnerships with our local law enforcement that are going to be out there in those areas to make them as hardened as they can be and to take the soft look away.”

Oman says Mina al Fahal oil terminal operating normally after blast reports

Oman’s state news agency cited Petroleum Development Oman as saying operations at Mina al Fahal,the country’s main crude oil export terminal, are continuing normally.

The statement came after earlier reports of an explosion near the terminal’s offshore mooring area.

Bloomberg reported Friday morning that operations at Mina al Fahal had resumedafter oil loading was temporarily halted.

Reuters earlier reported, citing people familiar with the matter, that theexplosion occurred near the terminal’s single-buoy mooring berthsand was believed to have been caused by a drone attack.

Omani authorities have not provided further details on the incident, its cause or any impact on crude exports.

Iran parliament deputy says bill on Hormuz ship traffic will be passed

Iran turns to Iraq’s Umm Qasr as new hub to bypass US blockade

More than 50 days into the US blockade of Iran’ssouthern ports, Iraq’s Umm Qasr has emerged as a new hub for Iran-bound cargo, trade sources say, as Tehran’s first major workaround through Oman’s Khasab grows slower, busier and more expensive.

The Iraqi port is now being used to move some Iran-bound cargo, including cars, after shipments are first transferred fromports in the United Arab Emirates on vessels flying non-Iranian flags, sources with knowledge of the matter Iran International.

The shift adds a new layer toIran’s effort to keep trade moving through indirect routes after the US blockade, which began on April 13, closed the main passages in the Strait of Hormuz to Iranian ships and vessels linked to the Islamic Republic.

Iran International previously reported that thesmall Omani port of Khasab Cargoesthat once moved through standard UAE-Iran channels have been transferred from Emirati ports to Khasab,then loaded onto Iranian vessels bound for ports on Iran’s southern coast.

But trade sources said the route has become slower in recent weeks as demand has risen.

The number of vessels gathering in Khasab has increased,while the port’s limited capacityhas made loading and transfers more time-consuming and more expensive than in the first days after the ceasefire, the sources said.

Oman, which had previously imposed limited restrictions or charges on some cargoes, has also introduced new costs for certain goods in recent weeks.

One trade source said some shipments,including cars, are now subject to charges based on the value of the goods.

Against that backdrop, Umm Qasr, Iraq’s main Persian Gulf port, has become a complementary route.

Last weekend Ivanka Trump went on David Senra’s Founders podcast and told a story about how she and Jared Kushner came to own a Mediterranean island. The way she frames it, they were on a friend’s boat and stopped for a swim when they noticed Sazan, a 1,400 hectare island off the Albanian coast, and they were so taken with it that they swam ashore and hiked barefoot all the way to the top, and the place simply stayed with them. Over the years that followed they “developed the opportunity” to realize its potential.

The friend with the boat was Nat Rothschild, heir to one of the oldest banking fortunes in Europe. Kushner laid out the fuller version in another recent podcast. They got picked up in Montenegro on Rothschild’s yacht, sailed toward Corfu, spent a couple of days in Albania, and one of those nights Prime Minister Edi Rama came aboard. So the chance encounter with a forgotten island was actually arranged on the boat of a billionaire financier, with the head of the government that would later hand them that island sitting across the table. So it was not exactly the magic accident that Ivanka described, and the land wasn’t empty either.

Sazan is a former military base, first fortified by Fascist Italy and later held by Communist Albania, and it sits inside the Karaburun-Sazan Marine National Park. It remained a national military asset until December 2024, when a presidential decree quietly removed it from that list, and a day later, on December 30, the Albanian government granted strategic investor status to Atlantic Incubation Partners, an entity tied to Kushner. That designation allows the project to bypass the review process that any other developer would have to pass through. The land along the coast had been classified as protected, including parts of the Vjosa-Narta lagoon where flamingos, seals, and sea turtles nest. The government’s own paperwork pegs the investment at 1.4 billion euros and promises a thousand jobs, while Ivanka has talked about as many as 10,000 hotel rooms and villas. Albanians have already started protesting against the project in large numbers.

Albania’s special anti-corruption prosecutor, SPAK, has opened an investigation into the funds used to acquire the land titles and the way those titles were sold on to investors. Thousands have marched under banners reading “Albania is not for sale” and “Ivanka, go home,” and when private security at the site dragged a protester across the ground on camera, the government revoked the licenses of two security firms, arrested a guard, and stripped the local police chief of his post, while also charging fifteen of the protesters.

Affinity has forced their way into protected land before, including a 99-year lease in Serbia, granted essentially for free, on the bombed-out former Yugoslav Army General Staff headquarters in central Belgrade. The land was protected as a cultural site for decades, but Affinity was still able to get their hands on it. To clear the way for a 500 million dollar Trump-branded hotel, that protected status was stripped in late 2024 on the basis of a document that was later proven to be forged. When the courts closed in, President Vucic’s government simply passed emergency legislation to override the heritage designation and force the project through, which set off a wave of youth protests and a human chain around the ruined complex. The whole thing finally died in December when Serbian prosecutors charged the culture minister and three other officials with abuse of office and forgery, at which point Affinity withdrew within hours, releasing a statement about how meaningful projects should unite rather than divide.

Are we really alone? It’s a fair question that has been asked and answered a million different ways over the years. In 2026, we’ve been given more information about extraterrestrial life than ever before, and yet there are still plenty of questions to ask.

Many musicians have been fascinated by aliens and space. Not only have they imbued it into their music, but they’ve made it part of their personalities and personas. The three rockers below all believed in extraterrestrials and made it a part of their artistry.

Jimi Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix made his belief in aliens well known. “Galacticans from outer space…would come to our planet to help mankind,” Hendrix reportedly once told his friends.

Of course, it’s easy to write this off as drug-fuelled nonsense, but the earnestness of his belief cannot be denied.

That belief then made its way into his music. Hendrix was said to be inspired by sci-fi works like Night of Light by Philip Jose Farmer while conceptualizing “Purple Haze.”

Revisit the track above with the notion that Hendrix was inspired by space. It gives it an entirely different feeling.

John Lennon

Another firm believer in the idea that we are not alone was John Lennon. Apparently, in 1974, Lennon experienced a UFO sighting that completely shaped his worldview moving forward.

Again, Lennon was a frequent drug taker, but even then, he was not alone in this belief.

He also took to singing about space and extraterrestrial activity. In “Out The Blue,” he sings, “Like a U.F.O., you came to me,” and in “Nobody Told Me,” he sings, “There’s UFOs over New York, and I ain’t too surprised.”

His longtime questioning of aliens and out-of-this-world activity was a mainstay in his music.

Elvis Presley

Elvis Presley was another believer, having experienced a “vision” from an extraterrestrial at a young age.

“His father told us he’d gone out to have a cigarette at 2 am during the delivery, and when he looked up into the skies above their little shack, he saw the strangest blue light.

He knew right then and there that something special was happening,” Presley’s assistant Larry Geller once said.

According to Presley, the alien gave him a vision of his future in which he would be a performer wearing a white jumpsuit. Sound familiar? That eerily prescient view of the future has to sway some non-believers, at least a little bit.

Palantir hired four ex-Ministry of Defence officials last year, with its latest recruit joining months before the US spyware giant won its biggest ever contract with the department, openDemocracy can reveal.

On 31 August 2025, Barnaby Kistruck left his role as the Ministry of Defence’s director of industrial strategy, prosperity and exports – marking the end of a career in the civil service spanning almost two decades, in which he’d worked primarily on national security and defence.

Nine days later, he took up his new position as senior counsellor at Palantir, a US tech firm with close ties to the Trump administration that specialises in providing AI-powered military and surveillance systems and data analytics.

openDemocracy understands Kistruck played a key role in writing the UK’s Strategic Defence Review and accompanying Defence Industrial Strategy, which were published last summer and recommended AI play an increased role in defence policy.

In December 2025, three months after Kistruck’s appointment, Palantir won a three-year Ministry of Defence contract worth £240m to ‘modernise defence’ by providing “data analytics capabilities supporting critical strategic, tactical and live operational decision making across classifications” in the armed forces.

The contract, which is more than three times larger than any Palantir has previously won with the MoD, was awarded without tender.

• The US Treasury on Fridaysanctioned a network of individuals, companies and vessels accusedof smuggling Iranian LPG to Asia by disguising it as Omani fuel, in the latest move under Washington’s “Economic Fury” pressure campaign against Tehran.

• The Treasury Department said the networkused front companies in the United Arab Emirates and China, foreign bank accountsand Iran’s shadow fleet to move millions of barrels of Iranian-origin LPG while concealing its source and evading US sanctions.

•“Iran’s economy is floundering and its military is decimated,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said, adding that the department would continue targeting Iran’s shadow fleet, shadow banking networks and access to global trade.

•The sanctions target Afghan national Sarbaz Abdul Zada and Turkish national Mohammad Shakol Mihandoust, also known as Haji Shakoor, whom Treasury accusedof operating UAE-based front companies that exported millions of barrels of Iranian LPG to South and East Asia. Those companies include Butani Trading LLC, Dundlod Trading FZE and ADH Energy FZE.

• Treasury said ADH Energy FZE was used in March 2026 to sell and export millions of barrels of Iranian LPG to Bangladesh. It also cited the LPG SEVAN, saying the vessel transported 750,000 barrels of LPG to Bangladesh between August and November 2025.

• The department also sanctioned several LPG tankers, including MD 23, GLENDALE, AMIR GAS, GAS LAGOON, MILE and GAZ GMS, saying they had transported hundreds of thousands tomillions of barrels of Iranian LPG in recent years.

• In a parallel action, OFAC designated Iranian exchange house Mehrdad Geramian Nik and Partners Company and its leadership,accusing them of moving hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign currency on behalf of sanctioned Iranian banks.

• Treasury saidIran’s foreign exchange system relies on brokers and front companies abroad to conceal Iranian linksand bypass sanctions.

•The sanctioned exchange househad contracts with Bank Tejarat, Bank Mellat and Bank Pasargad, and by early 2026 held tens of millions of dollars in foreign currencyon behalf of sanctioned Iranian bank customers, Treasury said.

•The move blocks any US-based property of the sanctioned individuals and entitiesand generally bars US persons from dealing with them. Treasury warned that foreign persons and financial institutions could also face sanctions exposure for activity involving blocked parties.

Cleric calls Hormuz ‘Moses’ staff,’ says it must not fall into enemy hands

A senior Iranian clericdescribed the Strait of Hormuz as Iran’s “staff of Moses,” saying Tehran must not allow its leverage over the waterway to fall into the hands of “enemies of Islam.”

Ahmad Mahmoudi, theFriday prayer leaderof Isfahan, said during his sermon.that “the clock and history do not go back,” adding that theUnited States had failedto achieve its aims through what he called the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

He said Iran’s central command center Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters had formally warned that if Israel attacked Beirut’s Dahiyeh district, Iran would fire toward Israel in response.

“Forty-four years have passed since the formation of the resistance, and this path will continue,” Mahmoudi said.
