Iran war will be trial by fire for missile interception startups
The escalating war in Iran has placed a spotlight on one central element of the US and Israel's defenses: missile interception.
So far, the US's countermissile resources in the Middle East are holding up. But national security experts are already warning that the US arsenal of missile interceptors is not at full capacity and may not outlast Iran's missile stockpile.
"You're fighting these super cheap drones and missiles with interceptors that are 100x more expensive," said Jordan Blashek, GP at defense tech firm Overmatch VC. "During sustained engagements, enemies can begin to really bleed us dry."
The conflict in June 2025 between Iran and Israel put a dent in the US stockpile, which has yet to recover, according to a December report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
"The war will accelerate the winners," said Ross Fubini, managing partner at defense-focused VC XYZ Capital. And new startups pitching themselves "will get more ruthlessly compared to the new winners."
And, as in Ukraine, the war in Iran is likely to accelerate the introduction of new technologies on the battlefield, according to Blashek.
Anduril, a darling of the defense tech sector currently courting investors at a $60 billion valuation, is an obvious candidate. Anduril's products span the warfighting ecosystem, including key components of missile interception.
A 2023 acquisition of Adranos, a solid rocket motor manufacturer, positioned Anduril to supply multiple elements needed for intercepting missiles.
More broadly, missile interception is attracting significant attention. Chaos Industries, which develops missile detection and observation technology, raised a Series D of over $500 million in November. Cambridge Aerospace, which is still keeping its work under wraps, announced in September it raised over $130 million across three rounds for its low-cost missile detection tech.
Missile interceptors don't come cheap: The PAC-3 MSE comes with a price tag of about $3.8 million. The THAAD interceptor costs around $12.4 million.
Buyers will particularly be looking for solutions that are immediately practical and can be plugged into existing systems, said Ali Javaheri, senior emerging tech analyst at PitchBook.
As new technologies get deployed in aerial battlefields, whether they can be cost-efficient and quick to manufacture, and whether they have an edge against well-capitalized rivals or incumbents, will be critical.
"War is a crucible of learning," Fubini said. "A terrible one."

89 Arrested In Florida Human Trafficking Operation, Sheriff's Office Says
Tuesday, Mar 10, 2026 - 07:20 AM
A sheriff’s office in Florida announced this week that an undercover operation led to 89 human and sex trafficking-related arrests, resulting in more than 1,200 separate felony charges.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, which includes the Tampa metropolitan area, said that the operation was carried out over several weeks and targeted individuals “seeking to sexually exploit children and purchase sex.”
The suspects arrested allegedly believed they were communicating with underage victims and showed up at agreed upon locations but were instead met by undercover sheriff’s detectives, according to a news release issued by the department.
They also located a missing 17-year-old girl who was being exploited, the news release said, adding that she was rescued, and her trafficker, identified by officials as 23-year-old Armani Hopkins, was arrested and charged in connection with the incident. It’s not clear if Hopkins has legal representation.
Authorities gave more details about other suspects who were arrested by sheriff’s officials.
Stephen Fabic, 41, a math teacher at Hillsborough High School, was arrested after he allegedly “offered to pick up a teenager and bring them to his home to engage in sexual activity during conversations with someone he believed to be a minor,” the office stated.
Fabic was arrested and made a court appearance last month. An attorney speaking on his behalf, Daniel Fischetti, was quoted by local media outlet Fox 13 as saying that “it’s unknown what exactly happened the day of, or what the meeting was going to be, so I ask the court to take that into consideration when setting bond.”
The Epoch Times has contacted his attorney for comment.
John Altieri, 69, was also arrested in the operation after he allegedly “arranged for a ride share to pick up a juvenile from their home and bring them to his residence to perform sexual acts,” the office’s news release stated.
“At the time, Altieri was serving home confinement while on probation in Hernando County for two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance,” it said, in part. It’s not clear if he has an attorney.
The office said that it safely recovered a 2-year-old child after it received a tip that the child was being exploited. A suspect, 42-year-old Peter Torres, was later arrested and the child was recovered in a safe manner, it said. It’s not clear if Torres has a lawyer.
Hillsborough Sheriff Chad Chronister, a Republican who was tapped by the second Trump administration to lead the Drug Enforcement Administration before he withdrew himself in late 2024, vowed to pursue human traffickers or individuals who seek to sexually exploit minors.

Sky Glows over Paranal Observatory
Are lasers from giant telescopes being used to defend the Earth? No. Lasers shot from telescopes are now commonly used to help increase the accuracy of astronomical observations. In some directions, Earth atmosphere-induced fluctuations in starlight can indicate how the air mass over a telescope is changing, but in other directions, no bright star exists. In these directions, astronomers can create an artificial star with a laser. Subsequent observations of the artificial laser guide star can reveal information so detailed about the changing blurring effects of the Earth's atmosphere that much of it can be removed by rapidly flexing a telescope's mirror. Such adaptive optics techniques allow high-resolution ground-based observations of real stars, planets, and nebulas. It's a long timeline arc The dude calling out Mitch's spam supposedly went to school with Mitch Nichols and his sister in Virginia Beach. Anon remembers only some of the happenings around it starting like in 2018. Mitch posting nude picrels of his five year old niece. Getting mad at the bakers for deleting. Mitch gets caught molesting his niece, then blames Jim and Anons for spying on him. He goes on all of his Tik-Tok and Reddit pages whining that he was framed. Then brags about spamming the board, etc. It's a long soap opera Anon. There's a couple of lolcow docs on Blow Tube about him.
