Epik, a Washington-based domain registrar and web hosting company known for hosting far-right, controversial, and deplatformed websites, provided critical services to 8chan (now 8kun) following its removal from other services in 2019. While Epik initially reversed its decision to host the site in August 2019 after its own network provider (Voxility) cut them off, 8chan later rebranded to 8kun and continued to operate with support from services connected to or associated with Epik.

Key details regarding the relationship between Epik and 8kun:
Initial Support & Reversal (2019): After Cloudflare dropped 8chan in August 2019 due to its role in extremist violence, Epik briefly stepped in to provide hosting through its subsidiary, BitMitigate. Following immense pressure and the loss of their own upstream provider, Epik initially stated they would not provide services to 8chan.
8kun Rebirth: 8chan rebranded as 8kun and continued to find refuge in the network of services associated with Epik and its CEO, Rob Monster, who has defended the rights of controversial, far-right platforms to remain online.
The "Deplatformed" Portfolio: Epik became known as a "refuge" for sites kicked off mainstream internet providers, hosting other controversial platforms like Gab, Parler, and BitChute, often alongside 8kun.
Security Issues: In 2021, a massive data breach at Epik exposed sensitive information of its customers, including those using the platform for anonymous, far-right, and extremist forums.
