And the president watches it all, if not live, through clips after the fact.But he does not regularly watch the evening news on the major networks, sources familiar with his habits say, andhe “rarely” tunes in live to smaller upstart outletslike One America News and Newsmax despite their friendly editorial bent.
The White House disputed that characterization of programming preferences. “He watches Newsmax and OANN,” one official said while noting the interviews Trump has done with both networks and the clips he shares on social media. But there is a human limit to how much news anyone, even the president, can consume. What remains undisputed is Trump's adoration for TiVo. He often catches up on a large cache of programming after the workday is officially done using the recording service that he calls “one of the greatest inventions of all time.”
How can a presidentwatch that much television, let alone do that much reading, while also attending to the business of the nation? Sources close to the president say=the answer is simple: He doesn’t sleep, or at least, he sleeps very little, often just four hours.
“No president in history has a better finger on the pulse of what the American people truly care about than President Trump,” said White House spokeswoman Liz Huston. “That’s because President Trump is anextraordinarily avid consumer of information– always up to date on the news of the day so he can highlight his administration’s historic achievements and hold the legacy media accountable whenever they spread fake news.”
Such is Trump’s nature, said Martha Joynt Kumar, a Towson University political scientist who doggedly tracks presidential press interactions. “It goes back to who he is,” she said pointing to his sometimes friendly, sometimes adversarial courtship of New York tabloids before his days in politics: “Communications was critical to everything he did in business and later with ‘the Apprentice,’ where he learned how to deal with the world of television.”
Staff have tried to match the evolving and ravenous media diet of the president as best they can. The increased emphasis on the economy has inspired aides, including press secretary Karoline Leavitt, to add CNBC business coverage to their regular rotation. But regardless of what is on the screen, a source familiar with White House operations explained, “The first thing he asks when he walks into a room with a TV on is ‘What are they saying?’”

Australian police admit dragging Muslim worshippers despite prayer permission during Herzog visit
Footage circulated on social media showed police forcibly removing Muslim worshippers and dragging them as they performed prayers during the protest.
Australian police have admitted that Muslim worshippers had permission to perform prayers, as authorities face backlash about their forcible removal.
The New South Wales Police Force confirmed on Thursday that the worshippers had been told they could continue to worship, according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).
"The NSW police force has now become aware that a senior police officer had allowed a group of Muslim protesters to continue praying at Town Hall Square on Monday evening," said a spokesperson.
Thousands of protesters took to the streets against Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s visit to Australia, leading to clashes with police at several locations.
"The senior officer was attempting to relay that message to other officers who were carrying out a move-on direction during what was a noisy, dynamic and fast-moving situation,” the spokesperson added.
Footage circulated on social media showed police forcibly removing Muslim worshippers and dragging them as they performed prayers during the protest.
NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said he “apologised for any offence taken for interfering with that religious process,” noting that the move by police did not target any religion.
Lebanese Muslim Association secretary Gamel Kheir demanded “the commissioner and the (NSW) premier (Chris Minns) make a public apology on mainstream media, the same way."
Independent lawmaker Allegra Spender said an independent inquiry into the police response at the protest was needed to "restore public trust".
Minns has doubled down in his defence of the police, saying, "Constant protests form a risk to community cohesion."
The incident triggered widespread condemnation, including from the Australian National Imams Council, which described the police actions as “shocking, deeply disturbing, and entirely unacceptable.”
Australia’s special envoy for Islamophobia, Aftab Malik, has demanded an investigation into the police use of force and urged Minns to issue a public apology to the Muslim community.
A UN Human Rights Council special commission of inquiry into the war in Gaza said last year that Israel was committing genocide and cited statements by Herzog as evidence of genocidal intent.

Israel Launches New Raids into Southern Syria, Troops Fire on Civilians
New Israeli checkpoints established in Quneitra Governorate
Israel has launched new incursions into southwestern Syria since Wednesday night, first firing artillery toward a village in the northern part of Quneitra Governorate and then, Thursday morning, sending troops in outright.
New checkpoints were established by the IDF, with the first reportedly in Sayda al-Hanout, where they restricted the movement of villagers, and then another in Jabata al-Khashab, further north in Quneitra. Both checkpoints are likely temporary, as Israel tends to establish them, hassle locals for a few hours, then withdraw.
The northern checkpoint appears to have been a more serious problem for locals, as the Israeli troops fired on civilians and news reporters in the nearby village of Ofaniyah. There were no reports of casualties, but it is fairly unusual for a checkpoint to involve shooting at people in the next village over.
In addition to the ground operations in Quneitra, there were reports of increased activity by Israeli warplanes over the neighboring Daraa Governorate. Though drones overhead in Israel-adjacent parts of Syria are not uncommon, the warplanes are an unusual escalation, despite no attacks having yet been reported.
Israel invaded Syria in December of 2024, immediately following the ouster of the Assad government. The territory that Israel has claimed is largely within the demilitarized zone, in Quneitra, though their ground operations continue and often go substantially deeper into Syrian territory, targeting both Daraa and Quneitra as well as the Rif al-Damashq Governorate further north.
Syria and Israel have been in negotiations meant to reduce tensions in the region, though Israel has ruled out withdrawing from the demilitarized zone and are instead demanding Syria created a whole new one adjacent to the old, now-occupied one.

FORMER LABOR UNION TREASURER INDICTED FOR BANK FRAUD, EMBEZZLEMENT, AND FALSIFICATION OF UNION FINANCIAL REPORTS
PENSACOLA, FLORIDA – Clarence Penny, 40, of Pace, Florida, was indicted by a federal grand jury charging him with eight counts of bank fraud, one count of embezzlement of labor union funds, and three counts of falsification of labor union reports. John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, announced the charges today.
Penny appeared for his arraignment in federal court before United States Magistrate Judge Hope T. Cannon on February 12, 2026, in Pensacola, Florida. Jury trial is scheduled for April 16, 2026, before District Court Judge M. Casey Rodgers.
If convicted, Penny faces up to 30 years’ imprisonment for each count of bank fraud; up to five years’ imprisonment for the embezzlement count; and up to one year imprisonment for each count of falsification of labor union reports.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Labor-Management Standards. Assistant United States Attorneys Brooke DiSalvo and Walter Narramore are prosecuting the case.
An indictment is merely an allegation by a grand jury that a defendant has committed a violation of federal criminal law and is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial, during which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt at trial.
