That is why France stood with the people of Israel when, after a long history of exodus and persecution, they finally had their own homeland, and their own State, and entered the family of nations as a free people. The Trump administration is concerned that Israel's repeated strikes inside Syria risk destabilizing the country and undermining hopes of an Israel-Syria security agreement, two senior U.S. officials tell Axios.
"We are trying to tell Bibi he has to stop this because if it continues he will self-destruct," one of those officials said, referring to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by his nickname.
The big picture: Supporting President Ahmed al-Sharaa's efforts to stabilize Syria and encouraging him to engage in a peace process with Israel are key elements of the Trump administration's Middle East strategy.
President Trump and his team have repeatedly sided with Syria's government in disputes with Israel— the only country in the region for which that's the case.
On Monday, Trump posted on Truth Social in support of al-Sharaa and said it was "very important that Israel maintain a strong and true dialogue with Syria, and that nothing takes place that will interfere with Syria's evolution into a prosperous State."
The U.S. officials made clear they think Netanyahu is interfering in very unhelpful ways. He has ordered military action across the border in Syria on several occasions, including in the past few days.

Both of your religions are hostile towards Christians and in fact, promote violence towards Christians and preached as if by the will of God. Christianity has no such doctrine to attack Muslims nor Jews, but both the Talmudic Jews and Jihadist Muslims preach that you are doing some type of sacred service and have been authorized by your scriptures to do such a hideous thing. You claim, that there is only one God, and that worshipping Christ is as if worshipping a false idol or graven image when in fact, it is both the Jews and Islamists that are worshipping graven images of dead Christians and you idolize those that do. All of your men are sons, and can become fathers, yet you hold Christ in contempt of the very same right that you exercise. The lesson is not only an actual one, but more importantly, a spiritual one. Christ is about self sacrifice for the sake of God's Kingdom, not about sacrificing others. The only thing the sacrifice of others brings about, is a spirit of revenge from their survivors and kinsfolks. And when your aggressors have died, you martyr them in their sin, instead of correcting the understanding of your own. Their blood is on your hands. Do what is right in the sight of God and correct your thinking, at least for the sake of your own people.
