Elbit systems will supply Iron Fist Active Protection Systems (APS) to BAE Systems Hägglunds.

Elbit Systems announced on Thursday that it secured a contract worth $130 million to supply Iron Fist Active Protection Systems (APS) to BAE Systems Hägglunds.

The APS will be installed on CV90 Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) over a five-and-a-half year period.

The APS is an advanced version of the Hard Kill system, which enhanced the self-defense capabilities of armored platforms against modern battlefield threats. It protects from a wide variety of threats, specifically Anti-tank Rockets, Anti-tank Guided Missiles, UAS, and Loitering threats in both open and complex urban terrains.

More Israeli Strikes Hit Lebanon Overnight (Videos)

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced on August 8 that it carried out overnight a series of strikes against Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

The strikes hit targets of the group in the towns of Bint Jbeil, Majdal Zoun and Doueir in southern Lebanon, according to the military, which also released video footage. The strikes caused material losses, but no casualties were reported by Lebanese media.

In the afternoon of August 8, an Israeli drone strike targeted a vehicle between the southern Lebanese towns of Yarine and Jebbayn. Casualties were reported by Lebanese media this time. Such strikes usually target senior members of Hezbollah or its allies.

Hezbollah didn’t mourn any of its members. However, it announced an attack against the IDF’s al-Marj site on the border with Lebanon.

In a statement, the group said it struck a gathering of Israeli troops in al-Marj with a suicide drone “in support of the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and to support their valiant and honorable resistance.” No losses were reported by Hebrew media, however.

The clashes between Israel and Hezbollah broke out after the start of the war in Gaza last October, with the group and its allies launching near-daily attacks in support of the Hamas Movement and other factions in the Strip.

So far, the border clashes have resulted in 25 civilian deaths in Israel and the occupied Golan as well as the deaths of at least 18 soldiers and security officers. On the Lebanese side, more than 600 people have been killed, including 381 fighters of Hezbollah and over 100 civilians.

In 1989, Walz earned a B.S. in social science education from Chadron State College in his native Nebraska. According to the Lincoln Journal Star, Walz also took classes in East Asia Studies at the University of Houston in 1985.

Following his graduation, the Minnesota governor and former Congressman spent approximately one year teaching high school in China as part of Harvard University's WorldTeach program. Walz was among the first government-sanctioned groups of American educators to teach in China.

Also a longtime member of the Army National Guard, Walz taught American history, culture and English to Chinese high school students, according to reports.

"Going there was one of the best things I've ever done," he told the Nebraska National Guard's newspaper after his return from China.

Five years later, Walz and his wife, Gwen, who is also a teacher, spent their honeymoon in China. The pair spent their trip leading two high school tour groups, according to the Journal Star.

In 1994, the Walz's set up a company called Educational Travel Adventures, Inc., which organized annual student trips to China, according to business records reviewed by Newsweek. Gwen Walz's biography states that she and the vice presidential hopeful organized these trips until 2003.
