A Melbourne tennis coach has been charged with sex crimes against children “under his authority”.

The 57-year-old did not show up to the online filing hearing for five charges against him in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

He is facing three counts of sexually touching a child and one count of engaging in sexual activity with a child.

Police allege the Eaglemont man also “engaged in sexual activity” in circumstances where he knew he would be seen.

He most likely knew the person seeing his sexual activity would be fearful or distressed, it is alleged.

The alleged sex crimes took place in Bentleigh East, Eaglemont, and Fiji between February and August 2018, police documents tendered to the court say.

The victims were aged 16 and 17, police allege.

The man’s lawyer Vincent Azzopardi told the court on Friday that there was a “substantial” brief of evidence from police for defence to consider.

“When placed on the table it measures about a metre high,” he said.

He said the coach’s police interview went for five hours.

He was charged on November 6 this year.

A Tennis Australia spokesperson said: “as this matter is before the court we are unable to comment”.

“Providing a safe and welcoming environment for children and young people is our priority and we encourage everyone to report any incidences of wrongdoing.

New Wave Of Russian Airstrikes Hit Militant Positions In Southern Idlib

On November 29 morning, a new wave of Russian airstrikes targeted militants’ positions in the al-Zawiya Mount in southern Idlib.

According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces hit two positions near the town of Mshun. No casualties were reported as a result of the airstrikes.

Following the Russian airstrikes, the Syrian Arab Army artillery shelled a number of towns and villages in the al-Zawiya Mount.

The mountainous region is a stronghold of al-Qaeda’s Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and its allies, including the Turkish-backed National Front for Liberation. Earlier this year, reports revealed that Syrian government forces are planning a large-scale operation to capture the region.

The al-Zawiya Mount is the main gateway to the strategic M4 highway, which links the port city of Lattakia with Aleppo city, Syria’s industrial hub.

Over the last few months, Russian forces stepped up their operations against Greater Idlib militants. Earlier this week, a series of Russian airstrikes targeted militants’ positions in the northern countryside of Lattakia. This may be a sign of a near operation in the region.

Canada Blocks Drug Exports to US in Response to Trump Policy Seeking Lower Costs

As part of his 'America First Health Plan', President Donald Trump announced in September that his administration will permit the importation of prescription drugs from Canada in an effort to lower drug costs.

Canadian government officials announced that it will block the importation of prescription drugs in situations where a domestic shortage could arise, in response to a move by the US to allow Americans to bring in medicines from across the northern border.

The policy took came into effect on Friday just before the US ruling, which drug suppliers have said could cause internal shortages in Canada, according to Reuters.

“Certain drugs intended for the Canadian market are prohibited from being distributed for consumption outside of Canada if that sale would cause or worsen a drug shortage,” Health Minister Patty Hajdu said in a statement, the news outlet said.

He said that companies will now be required to "provide information to assess existing or potential shortages" on request, and "within 24 hours if there is a serious or imminent health risk".

“Canada is a small market, representing 2 percent of global drug sales, that sources 68 percent of its drugs internationally. The need for vigilance in maintaining the national drug supply continues,” Hadju said.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pledged his support to other nations earlier this year but would prioritise domestic access to drugs.

A large US pharmaceutical lobbying organisation is also taking legal action to bring about an end to the rule, accusing the law of violating the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, Endpoints News reports.

“It is particularly disturbing that the administration is punting the responsibility for demonstrating safety and cost savings to state governments despite the clear requirement under federal law that the Secretary of HHS must certify that imported drugs both pose no additional risk to public safety and will lead to significant savings for the American consumer,” said James Stansel, general counsel for the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America.

The lobbying group claims that the Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar breached Section 804 of the law by maintaining importation powers in the hands of state governments.

Drug manufacturers have been the subject of widespread criticism from US politicians - including President Trump - regarding the high cost of medicines and price hikes for older drugs amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Presumptive President-elect Joe Biden has also attacked the drug prices and has suggested importing products to lower costs.

In the Tweet, Powell linked back to a report from the American Thinker that, using detailed analysis, alleges “hanky panky” that flat-out stole the state from President Trump in the early morning hours of November 4th.
