2 arrested in connection with child abuse death of Pueblo toddler

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office says two people have been arrested in connection with a child abuse death of a 15- month- old toddler named Aiden. The child was in foster care at a Pueblo West home.

The sheriff’s office says Ramando Jones and Dacey Spinuzzi were arrested and both were booked into the Pueblo County Jail. According to deputies, the two were in a relationship.

The sheriff’s office says Jones was arrested Monday night on a warrant for first-degree murder of a child in a position of trust, but was already in custody at the Pueblo County Jail at the time on an unrelated charge. In a statement released by the sheriff’s office, they add Spinuzzi was taken into custody Wednesday morning on a warrant for child abuse resulting in death.

These two arrests stem from what happened back on Sept. 16, when deputies responded to a home in the 400 block of S. Coral Drive on a report of an unresponsive child. The child was taken to a hospital but died two days later.

At the time of Aiden’s death, he was a foster child in the custody of Spinuzzi. Deputies add there were three other foster children who were living there, along with one biological child she had with Jones. The child had been with Spinuzzi since July 23.

The sheriff’s department adds an autopsy showed Aiden died from injuries from the child abuse.

AP: Judge approves $800M Las Vegas shooting settlement

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A court on Wednesday approved a total of $800 million in payouts from casino company MGM Resorts International and its insurers to more than 4,400 relatives and victims of the Las Vegas Strip shooting that was the deadliest in recent U.S. history.

The action makes final a deal announced earlier this month and settles dozens of lawsuits on the eve of the third anniversary of the shooting that killed 58 people and injured more than 850 at an open-air concert near the Mandalay Bay resort.

Clark County District Court Judge Linda Bell, in her brief order, cited “near-unanimous participation in the settlement among potential claimants.”

Authorities said more than 22,000 people were attending an outdoor music festival when a gunman firing military-style weapons from windows on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay rained rapid-fire bullets into the crowd.

MGM Resorts, owner of the hotel and the concert venue, acknowledged no liability with the settlement. It will pay $49 million, while its insurance companies will pay $751 million.

“We are grateful that the decision brings families, victims and the community closer to closure,” the company said in a statement. It noted the anniversary of the Oct. 1, 2017, event, calling it “a time of great sadness and reflection.”

Memorial ceremonies are scheduled Thursday at several venues in Las Vegas, including a reading of the names of the slain beginning at 10:05 p.m. — the time the first shots rang out.

Attorney Robert Eglet, the plaintiffs’ lawyer who spent a year arranging the settlement with clients, legal firms and attorneys in at least 10 states, said amounts to be disbursed will be determined by two retired judges and he’s hopeful that payments will begin going out by the end of the year.

“There’ve been no objections and we expect no appeals,” Eglet told The Associated Press. “We’ll send out notices of the order. After 30 days the $800 million will be deposited.”

The case will be dismissed at that time, he added.

Eglet previously said that everyone involved “recognized there are no winners in long, drawn-out litigation with multiple trials where people and the community are reliving the event every time we try a case.”

A line-by-line list of victims, identified by their initials only, runs for more than 170 pages of a 225-page civil complaint filed Sept. 9 seeking compensation and punitive damages from MGM Resorts. It accused the casino company of negligence, wrongful death and liability in the 2017 shooting.

Millions of dollars could go to the most severely and permanently injured, Eglet said, depending on factors including age, number of dependents, type of injuries, previous and future medical treatment, and ability to work.

A minimum $5,000 would go to each person who filed a claim for unseen injuries and did not seek medical attention or therapy.

Arkansas pastor admits to attempting exorcism on child, using drugs with church members

An Arkansas pastor under investigation in a child abuse case was arrested outside a Mayflower gas station on drug-related charges last week.

FAULKNER COUNTY, Ark. — According to an affidavit, a local pastor under investigation in a child abuse case was arrested outside a Mayflower gas station on drug-related charges last week.

Drug Task Force agents and Conway police officers arrested 49-year-old Lloyd Eddie Lasker Jr. because he was wanted for questioning in a child abuse case after he allegedly attempted to perform an exorcism on the child, according to the court documents.

While police questioned Lasker, he stated that he had tried to exorcise a demon out of the 21-month-old but wouldn't explain how he did so.

The child is currently in the hospital and in serious condition.

During the investigation, authorities also found out the Lasker was involved in narcotics and firearms and that he was on probation with an active search waiver on file.

Court documents show that Lasker allegedly did drugs with church members.

Authorities arrested Lasker outside of a gas station in Mayflower with felony charges relating to drug and firearm possessions.

A raccoon reportedly attacked some reporters on the White House lawn Monday, according to CBS White House correspondent Paula Reid.

Reid tweeted that the animal “attacked multiple news crews on North Lawn. ” She included photographs, which apparently depicted the White House raccoons “in more peaceful times.”

“Strong Pawnee vibes at White House this morning as a raccoon attacked multiple news crews on North Lawn,” Reid wrote. “[The raccoon] allegedly grabbed pant leg of a photographer & then a corespondent [sic] before being fended off.”

Following the alleged attack, the White House reportedly reached out to the U.S. General Services Administration regarding the animals, Reid tweeted in an update.

Reid and her crew continued on to find a trap set for the raccoons – with marshmallows inside as bait. Upon returning to the trap Wednesday morning, Reid reported that the marshmallows were gone and the trap shut, but the raccoon, suspiciously, was nowhere to be seen.

US Air Force adds vendors to list of companies that could make autonomous Skyborg drone

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Air Force has added nine vendors to the list of companies that will compete to build the service’s autonomous Skyborg drone wingman.

On Sept. 28, the service awarded each firm an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract worth up to $400 million. The nine companies were AeroVironment Inc., Autodyne LLC, BAE System Controls Inc., Blue Force Technologies Inc., Fregata Systems Inc., Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, NextGen Aeronautics Inc., Sierra Technical Services, and Wichita State University.

Those organizations join Northrop Grumman, Boeing, General Atomics and Kratos, which won the first round of contracts in July.

No money has been allotted to vendors so far. Instead, the 13 companies on contract will compete against each other for future delivery orders.

“This second phase of awards establishes a diverse and competitive vendor pool by adding several nontraditional and traditional contractors we saw as important additions to the effort,” said Brig. Gen. Dale White, the program executive officer for fighters and advanced aircraft, whose team manages the Skyborg program with the Air Force Research Laboratory.

Skyborg is one of the lab’s top three science and technology efforts. The project is meant to produce a family of uncrewed aerial systems that can move into contested spaces and conduct aerial missions that might be too dangerous for human pilots to perform.

Her plea deal last year- suggesting a sentence of 21-27 months was worthless – as the judge sentenced her to 81 months in prison and possibly the wealthiest defendant he ever had to sentence was handcuffed seconds after he pronounced sentence.

Quite likely the judge did not want to risk a woman with 200 million and a surprisingly high sentence to be free to possibly flee the country.

A woman who spent million of her wealth trying to destroy enemies of Raniere – and put them in prison will now go to prison herself

And oddly the two financial crimes she pleaded guilty to – harboring an illegal alien for financial gain and Identity theft – by enabling Raniere to use Cafritz’s credit card – amounted to about $400,000 in financial fraud – just peanuts.

Surely the judge must have been angered by the antics of hers and Raniere’s followers over the last few days – calling the prosecutors and the judge corrupt – and Bronfman’s stubborn refusal to disavow Raniere.

At 81 months, Clare got a higher sentence than the prosecution was seeking. The judge said the context of the crimes – and her involvement with Keith Raniere – the use of her wealth to intimidate people – enhanced the seriousness of her crimes. He wanted to send a message.
