President Donald Trump recently shared a tweet with his 86 million followers that accused his Democratic presidential challenger Joe Biden of being a pedophile.

It was not the first time that the baseless smear came out of the Trump camp. On Instagram in May, the president’s eldest son and campaign surrogate Donald Trump Jr. made a similar insinuation, which he later claimed was a joke.

How did unfounded allegations of pedophilia infiltrate American political life? They are a central tenet of the extremist conspiracy movement QAnon whose followers believe that Trump is a messianic figure battling a “deep state” of devil-worshipping, child-molesting Democrats.

Observers say the 2016 presidential election spurred the rise of conspiracy theories once confined to the fringes. With influential figures using their social media megaphones to amplify them, incendiary falsehoods are circulating in the mainstream before the November election in an alarming break from the norms of presidential politicking.

“I am amazed at how prevalent pedophilia has become in conspiracy theories just lately,” said Kathryn Olmsted, a UC Davis history professor who studies conspiracy theories and author of “Real Enemies: Conspiracy Theories and American Democracy.”

Democrats Release New $2.2 Trillion Stimulus Proposal With $417BN In State And Local Aid

Late on Monday, in an apparent attempt to break the covid fiscal stimulus impasse in Congress but without actually providing a tangible compromise, House Democrats released a fresh $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief bill proposal, which Nancy Pelosi said was a "compromise measure that reduces the costs of the economic aid" which will allow the Democrats to go to the public and say "we tried, the Republicans killed it."

The plan follows through on discussions last week to prompt a last-ditch attempt at negotiations with the White House to break an impasse on Covid-19 relief that’s lasted since early August.

In a letter to Democratic lawmakers released by Pelosi’s office, she said the legislation “includes new funding needed to avert catastrophe for schools, small businesses, restaurants, performance spaces, airline workers and others.”

“Democrats are making good on our promise to compromise with this updated bill,” she said. “We have been able to make critical additions and reduce the cost of the bill by shortening the time covered for now.”

The problem is that since the total bill remains at a level that Senate Republicans have previously rejected. Furthermore, the proposal also includes $238 billion for State Fiscal Relief and $179 billion in Local relief, both of which Trump has previously said remains a non-starter.

State Fiscal Relief – $238 billion in funding to assist state governments with the fiscal impacts from the public health emergency caused by the coronavirus, including $755 million in CARES Act Coronavirus Relief Fund repayment for the District of Columbia.

Local Fiscal Relief – $179 billion in funding to assist local governments with the fiscal impacts from the public health emergency caused by the coronavirus.

Shortly after the bill was published, Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Mnuchin spoke at 6:30 p.m. via phone according to press reports. The two agreed to speak again tomorrow morning.

Biden’s Lead in Betting Markets Is Growing Ahead of the First Presidential Debate

As of Monday, RealClearPolitics’ average of betting odds currently puts Biden’s chances of a victory at 54.6% chance of victory, compared to Trump at 44.5%. That’s Biden’s highest mark since Aug. 25, during the Republican National Convention. On Sept. 2, betting markets gave Biden gave Biden a 50% chance to Trump’s 49.5% odds.

Police departments report nationwide 911 outage

(FOX 9) - Police departments are reporting a nationwide 911 outage Monday evening.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m., several Minnesota police departments reported that 911 services are down.

As the outage is being investigated, officials are encouraging residents to contact local departments via the local number if emergency services are needed. Some are also encouraging residents to call the fire department.

President Duterte Warns Fascist Facebook: “You Cannot Lay Down Policy For My Government” — Accuses Facebook of Enabling Rebellion

MANILA, Philippines- On Monday night (PHT), Rodrigo Duterte warned social media tech giant Facebook in a pre-recorded late-night address.

Duterte warned, “You cannot lay down a policy for my government. I allow you to operate here. You cannot bar or prevent me from espousing the objectives of the government.”

According to a report from a local news site Inquirer.net:

Facebook has shut down over 100 fake accounts traced to police and military units in the Philippines for engaging in “coordinated inauthentic behavior” (CIB), according to Nathaniel Gleicher, cybersecurity policy chief of the social media giant.

Gleicher said most of the content in the fake accounts — which were managed by people affiliated with various police and military agencies — revolved around criticism of the opposition, activism, and communism. Gleicher said that the domestic network consisted of around 57 Facebook accounts, 31 pages, and 20 Instagram accounts. The sites had over 276,000 followers on Facebook and 55,000 on Instagram.

The network has been most active, he noted, since 2019 when discussions about the Anti-Terrorism Act were at their peak.

However, both the military and the police on Wednesday denied the supposed fake accounts and pages that have been taken down by Facebook for “coordinated inauthentic behavior.”

Duterte also accused “fascist Facebook” of enabling rebellion after the shutdown of the fake accounts. He accused Facebook of helping and “encouraging” communists by blocking the government’s efforts. Duterte further cast doubt on the future of Facebook’s operation in the country.

CNN Philippines reported:

Duterte pointed out that it is his job to protect the interests of the government.“If you cannot help me protect government interest, then let us talk,” he said.

The President also accused the social media platform of enabling rebellion after the shutdown of the fake accounts.

“If you are promoting the cause of the rebellion, which was already here before you came, and thousands of my soldiers and civilians dying,” said Duterte.

“Then if you cannot reconcile the idea of what your purpose is or was, then we have to talk.”

“Is there a life after Facebook? I don’t know,” warned Duterte.
