Lawmakers Move To Defund The Wuhan Lab Suspected Of Creating COVID-19
Communist China is refusing to comply with further investigation into the Wuhan lab, located in the city the pandemic originated. While the Chinese Communist Party throws a fit about the “shocking” and “offensive” proposal by the World Health Organization to audit Chinese labs claiming it projects “arrogance towards science,” some U.S. legislators haven’t given up on finding where COVID-19 came from and who needs to be held responsible for unleashing the virus on the world.
Last week, the bipartisan House Appropriations Committee voted to ban funding for the Wuhan Institute of Virology through designations in the National Institutes of Health funding bill for next year.
In addition to pulling dollars from gain-of-function experiments, the ban also takes into account experiments occurring in nations historically hostile and opposed to the U.S.
“Shipping tax dollars to a CCP-run animal lab with military ties to supercharge coronaviruses in gain-of-function experiments is a recipe for disaster,” said Anthon Bellotti, president of the taxpayer watchdog group White Coat Waste Project.
“Having first exposed secretive taxpayer funding for the Wuhan animal lab last year, we applaud Democrat and Republican lawmakers for coming together to protect taxpayers and public health by defunding this dangerous animal lab where there’s no transparency and accountability about how our money is spent, and that a growing majority of Americans believe caused the pandemic,” Bellotti said in a statement.
Republican Sen. Joni Ernst is just one of the conservatives fighting to prevent labs such as the Wuhan Insitute of Virology from receiving funding that could lead to dangerous conditions and potential consequences for the world.
“COVID-19 appeared in the vicinity of the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), a laboratory where research was conducted on bat coronaviruses, yet the Communist Party of China refuses to cooperate with efforts to learn how a virus found in bats made the cross-species jump to humans,” Ernst told The Federalist. “What’s even more troubling is that some of the research being done at WIV was subsidized by American taxpayers despite the fact the organization funneling the money, EcoHealth Alliance, was skirting federal law and refusing to disclose the amount of money going to the WIV.”
The murkiness around New York-based non-profit EcoHealth Alliance and its relationship with Dr. Anthony Fauci and the Wuhan lab prompted Ernst to propose legislation that would keep taxpayers from “foot[ing] the bill for any organization that fails to comply with federal law.”
From 2014 to 2019, the NIH approved a five-year annual grant of $600,000 to EcoHealth Alliance which in turn, went to study bat coronaviruses that could infect humans at the WIV. Ernst said federal law requires NIH and other agencies under the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to publicly disclose every project being supported with federal funds, but that this law has been ignored by HHS.
The Stop the Outlay of Payments (STOP) Act would cut off all funding to any organization, like EcoHealth, that refuses to provide information about a project or fails to obey federal laws.
“Taxpayers have a legal right to know exactly what our government is funding and where and, most importantly, why so we can hold those making the decisions accountable,” she said.
Ernst also blasted NIH for their failure to address Ecohealth Alliance’s “stonewalling questions about what was happening at the Wuhan lab” and “rewarded the organization by providing a new grant.”
“Call it whatever you want, but it’s indisputable that the dangerous research was being conducted in a facility not up to safety standards and the organization that funneled taxpayer dollars into the state-run lab refuses to cooperate with the investigation to learn exactly what was occurring there prior to the outbreak,” Ernst said. “Sadly, public officials and many in the media dismissed this idea outright. The bottom line is, to find out the truth about COVID-19, we need to follow the science and the money.”
Cutting off the money, Ernst continued, is just one step in what needs to be a long and deep investigation into just how COVID-19 infected the entire world.
“The information EcoHealth possesses, which was paid for by U.S. tax dollars, could strengthen the case for or against the lab leak theory,” she added.

Credit Suisse Settles Spying Case With Former Wealth Chief Khan
Credit Suisse Group AG said it reached a settlement with its former wealth-management executive Iqbal Khan and a private detective firm, calling to a close a spying scandal that rocked one of Europe’s biggest lenders and ultimately led to the ouster of its chief executive officer Tidjane Thiam last year.
“All involved parties have agreed to settle, and this matter is now closed,” a spokesperson for the bank said on Sunday, confirming that it had reached a settlement with Khan, his wife and the private detective firm Investigo. No further details were disclosed. A probe by Swiss financial regulator, Finma, over the company’s surveillance activities is ongoing. In 2019, Credit Suisse hired a private investigator to spy on Khan, once seen as a potential successor to the CEO before defecting to rival UBS Group AG. The incident culminated in a physical confrontation in downtown Zurich between Khan and the men who followed him, shaking Switzerland’s financial world and setting off investigations by Zurich’s prosecutor and the company’s board of directors. The settlement would close a chapter for Credit Suisse as it seeks to move past a string of recent scandals. It faces an exodus of senior bankers after the collapse of Archegos Capital Management and Greensill Capital. In the aftermath, new chairman Antonio Horta-Osorio pledged a review of the bank’s businesses.
Credit Suisse is set to report its second-quarter earnings on July 29.

In June 2013, The Guardian newspaper, using documents leaked by former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor, Edward Snowden, revealed the existence of an operation codenamed Tempora, whereby GCHQ is able to tap into data which flows along undersea cables and then store it for up to 30 days, to assess and analyse it. The article refers to a three-year trial set up at GCHQ Bude which, by mid-2011, was probing more than 200 internet connections.[16]
A further Guardian report in December 2013 stated that eavesdropping efforts to target charities, German government buildings, the Israeli Prime Minister, and an EU commissioner centred on activities run from GCHQ Bude.[17]
GCHQ Bude was featured extensively in the 3 September 2014 BBC Two Horizon television programme: 'Inside the Dark Web'.[18] This programme estimated that 25% of all internet traffic travels through Cornwall, England. Dr Joss Wright of the University of Oxford Internet Institute[19] explained how mirror images of the signals running down submarine Ethernet cables are used to gather and analyse data. The programme claimed that this procedure involves an optical tap device which is inserted at the submarine cable repeater station. A second copy of the data then travels to GCHQ, while the original carries on its intended journey. GCHQ, it was claimed, then have three days to replay the data. It was stated that everything that comes across the internet can theoretically be accessed; including emails, websites, BitTorrent downloads, films that have been watched, etc. Wright added that internal documents show that in 2011, 200 10-gigabit cables coming into Cornwall were being tapped by GCHQ. Wright said that the entire digitised contents of the British Library could be transferred down that set of cables in about 40 seconds. On the same programme, Tim Berners-Lee explained how huge volumes of data are analysed by GCHQ computer programmes to identify trends of communication which are deemed to require further examination.[20]
On 20 November 2014, Channel 4 News broadcast an investigation prepared in collaboration with German broadcaster Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR). This report revealed that a leading UK communications company (Cable & Wireless, now Vodafone) cooperated with GCHQ to allow access to data, including that carried by a rival Indian telecommunications company. The broadcast detailed an operation centred on fibre-optic cables surfacing at Porthcurno beach and Sennen Cove in Cornwall, with data travelling to a nearby cable landing station at Skewjack Farm, and then onwards to GCHQ Bude.[21]

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin plans to visit one of the Moscow-controlled, Tokyo-claimed islands within the next two days for the first time after last July's constitutional amendment barring the country from ceding territory to a foreign power, Russian officials said Sunday.
The planned visit to Etorofu Island by Mishustin, second in power after President Vladimir Putin, on Monday or Tuesday, will also be the first trip to the disputed isles by the prime minister since his predecessor Dmitry Medvedev's visit in August 2019. Putin said Friday he told Mishustin prior to the premier's trip to the Russian Far East to pay extra attention to the isles, adding Mishustin made a good proposal on the joint economic activities by Japan and Russia on the four islands known as the Northern Territories in Japan and the Southern Kurils in Russia. The two countries have agreed to carry out joint economic projects on the islands in such areas as aquaculture, wind power and waste reduction as a trust-building exercise.
The dispute over the islands Etorofu, Kunashiri, Shikotan and the Habomai islet group seized by the Soviet Union after Japan's surrender in World War II in 1945 has prevented the two countries from concluding a postwar peace treaty.
